So there’s a lot of reviews about people not getting much out of this panel.
One chap getting 17 watts from two. He is getting that because his solar bank (and ac200P) says he needs three panels to get the voltage required to charge the unit.
However.
If you connect this panel to an allpowers 288WH unit your getting max 56W input. That’s less than a 120W panel. I don’t know exactly why but assume it’s down to the allpowers unit throttling it. I will be testing on the larger 576WH unit, and on the new Anker 757 which is what I bought it for.
Now onto car charging. Totally dead battery this PWM charger even with an initial voltage feed to initiate it won’t charge the battery even though it says it is. I charged on an old fashioned unit for 30 minutes, then swapped back over. The 30A car charger was maxed at 13Amps. Using this panel that’s exactly what I got, so it’s yet again the battery limiting it. 13 amps is in the region of 180 watts including some losses. And we know the battery is limiting it. That’s really good.
You really want an MPPT charger not pwm, but the price is superb. Build quality is good. And they include the standard extra barrel plug that almost all solar power stations use.
The negative reviews are from people not matching the voltage and amperage of this unit to their solar power stations and such.
I am confident we can get around 250W from this unit if it is matched well, with something that doesn’t throttle the charging.
13 amps into a 12V battery laid flat, not angled, on a sunny day is very impressive for a panel you can fold up.
That’s faster than you average and slightly above average mains car chargers.
I bought this in the first place, for camping usage, and it turn up to be, a very good investment. The system perform very well. Coming back from camping, I decided to turn this panel into a permanent one( obviously with some modifications), fitted on the top of the roof. And it work’s perfectly fine. I definitely recommend.
This folding solar panel by Dokio is a fantastic product. Its well constructed and after a few months of use it still looks like new. Despite being a folding flexible panel, this 300w model is still quite bulky and very heavy.
Most people buying this will likely be using it to charge a 12v battery perhaps as part of a motor home or van life set up. My use however is a little different and somewhat more truly portable.
I have owned all the major brands smaller 20-30w USB solar panels from the likes of Rav, Bigblue etc… They are good but you run into power limitations when you only have 5v available, and 3.5 amps on a good day.
Enter the dokio panels. I wanted this in order to directly power various USB Buck convertors and USB PD supplies using its 18v nominal output. I am pleased to say I have had great success in doing so.
I havnt tested the units total capability yet however I have been able to pull in excess of 120 Watts via my USB PD testing straight from this panel.
As with all solar panels of this type, you need to take their rated output with a pinch of salt. 300 Watts? Hmmm maybe you might get somewhere in the vicinity of 250 upwards if you are in a desert with ultra high UV, but a more realistic expectation in UK sun would be 200-230w. You have a lot of surface area and that really helps.
I have had the panels out in light to medium rain and they were not damaged so there is probably some resilience there.
The output connector is SAE which is nice and easy to work with.
A basic PWM type 12v solar charger is provided and this appears to work well. However if I was going to charge 12v batteries then I would use an MPPT controller anyway.
Overall this is a good product, it will produce over 200w in bright sun, but take the 300w rating with a pinch of salt.
Pro tip: Use a couple of camping tables as a stand and you can enhance output by angling toward the sun.
Sadly I had to source this product via Ali Express due to delivery issues when I ordered from Amazon, however that’s got no bearing on the product itself.
Comes as 4 x 80W panels connected in parallel in a tidy fold-up folder with a carry handle. An SAE cable comes out the middle to connect to the dinky little supplied PWM solar charge controller via a supplied cable. Quite short, so consider buying an SAE extension cable.
The 3 main Solar Charger connections are via XT60 connectors keeping it neat, tidy and quick to put together and take apart. 2 x 2A USB sockets work without a battery connected, nice touch.
3pm on a sunny May afternoon in England, panels flat on the ground, and I was getting 11.4A at 14.1V into a battery under load. 160W! Not bad, especially with the bargain basement PWM controller. The controller reduced the Amperage when the load was removed.
The crocodile clips to connect the battery (via XT60 again) are a little flimsy, but okay. SAE to MC4 converter cable worth buying to exploit an existing rig.
All in all top-notch! Not expecting to get anywhere near the 320W potential, but 200W seems in reach. Recommended!
Tested it today in bright sun light 🙂 All looks good.
I did need to re-terminate one of the terminals on the controller and tighten the other terminals.
Getting to grips with the controller menu took a few moments, but I got there (bottom left button was the key) image on the button is small. It had this graduate engineer at it…Should have tried to follow instructions 1st time and not
double guess
Works as expected. Around 200W on a cloudy day with the Bluetti AC200MAX
