This lamp is ideal for home or camping. Easy to put on, magnetic base which makes it easy to use as a working light and strong beam. I bought it in case of blackouts and liked it so much I bought a couple more.

Great pair lights. Purchased ready for black outs. Easy to use no switches, pull up it’s on, push section down light goes off. I’m using in the kitchen in the evening instead of under permit light. Good value speedy delivery, like you get batteries included.

This is a bright lantern, fairly sturdy & easy to carry. It is lightweight & ideally suited to camping or going up into an unlit loft. The battery life is not particularly long, however, as it is powered by AA batteries it is not overly expensive to ru

These were purchased in case of electricity cuts, and while not the best build quality I believe good value for money. Easy to switch on for the disabled or elderly, and the batteries last a long time…. Better still the cheapest size of batteries. Really bright and enough to see around a standard sized room in an emergency.
Only down side is if they fell from a sideboard or similar height I imagine the plastics would break, but at this price for 2 what would you expect.
Still…. They offer good value for money and I highly recommend if you need a long lasting bright light.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bright and long lasting.. Value

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersGot these as an emergency given that our crap government has said there won’t be any power outages this winter. Pretty much everything thats bad they say won’t happen, does. So, I was going to go with a USB rechargable but these given their bright LEDs are great. Just keep a stock of AA’s on hand too. They have the handles on the side that swing up for holding like a coal miners lamp and also magnets on the base along with a hook. I can actually see other uses for these beyond the power cut situation. So, yes good purchase methinks. Can’t comment on the battery as I have only had them a few days hence the 3 but don’t let that put you off. All in all, very pleased and a really good price right now.

Really happy with these two lights, going to use them for camping and they are perfect, well made and great lights. I like that you can adjust the brightness by how much you slide up the lantern. They come with 3 x AA batteries which is good. Really happy with these and would fully recommend for camping, fishing and as a backup if the lights go out.

I have purchased these twice now and found them very handy.
We use them a lot outside at night instead of torches because they are really easy to carry and lightweight.
The light emitted is quite powerful although if you leave them on for a few hours the batteries do soon drain.
In order to keep it environmentally friendly it is best to use rechargeable batteries.
Got them ready for the proposed winter power cuts!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersAbsolutely love them. Light weight and a lot brighter than I imagined it would be for such a little lamp. Extremely easy to use. Pop in batteries and pull up, the more you pull the more light it gives out.

Bought 2 boxes which include 2 lamps in each box. Gave 2 lamps away and they were extremely pleased with it. We’ll worth the money.

I bought 2 of the orange torches after for our cars which are great also.

I would definitely recommend these items

liked the compact style . There is another small hook inset into the bottom of the lamp if you wish to hang upside down. There are no instructions but you only have to pull gently the two wire handles to slide the top half up and it comes on automatically. Slide down for off. It is very bright so up Do heed the Safety warning on the box not to look directly at the lamp for more than a few seconds.
Haven’t used for long so can’t comment on battery life.

I would definitely buy again!

Bought these as backup light for my caravan. I got to use one of them recently due to a power cut and was pleasantly surprised, the light was fairly bright for such a small lamp and was easily sufficient for my needs. The light was on constantly for 4 hours during the power cut and showed no signs of losing power or brightness. As only used once i cannot comment on longevity but so far so good.

Having checked the reviews on the Herobeam, they were highly recommended.
I can see why. Exactly as described. Easy to use. Lightweight. Give off plenty of light.
Would definitely buy again or give as a present. Delivered well packaged and in excellent time.
The lantern gives off a more yellow light than in the photo, but that does not deter from its efficacy.

I bought these for my Mum after the recent power cuts. One lantern lights a small room, so the light is very bright. I can’t comment on the battery life. The only thing I would improve is the strength of the magnets on the base. They are a bit weak to hold the lantern up. Otherwise, excellent.

I bought a set of two mainly as insurance against power cuts. Very impressed, very bright, lightweight but solid build and durable. The pull up action to reveal light and switch it on is ingenious. Love the magnetic base, I have used them to search inside metal shed at night by just using magnetic base to stick light to wall. I have now bought a second set.

We have had a couple of power cuts in our apartments recently so wanted something which would give us a
good light to be able to sit and read and move around in safety, should it happen again.
These lamps arrived with batteries so were good to go immediately, I have given battery life 4 stars as I dont know how long they will last if are used for long periods but as are LED would imagine should get quite a long time as my other LED bulbs use very little mains power .
The case is sturdy and compact there are 2 handles which you can use to carry or hang it from and also on the underside there are 4 very strong magnets which grab at anything metal and will hold it in place so can ‘hang’ it by them or a fold out plastic hook (that is a bit more difficult to get out but gets easier with practice) I would imagine that would hang well around a rail in a tent or wardrobe or maybe a hook in the garden or the boot of the car.
The lamp is blinding to look at but would be great if the car broke down or on a camping trip . We will probably keep one in the car for walking from the car on dark nights and another in the drawer incase of power cuts or the fuse blowing .
Can see us probably buying another set in time and I know our neighbours were impressed and will be buying some too.
    Def value for money.

The are very bright and will easily light a small room. I have ordered 2 more packs for family! Exceptional value. These are awesome – a warm toned light and super easy and smooth to use. I used these two to light a stall in the evening and was over the moon – the lights reach was great so my products could all be seen and perfect being battery operated. The light was bright and warm which I really liked as it’s not too in your face. The quality is just as the photo’s advertised by seller! Fantastic.

Initially I thought that the ‘ yellow’ cob lights were not going to provide the level of light I wanted, but, I was wrong. These Herobeam lamps are more than satisfactory and the yellow hues are actually easier on the eyes and I expect that’s more preferable if you need to use them for a lengthy period ie power down. They light up the room. They hold very well onto the fridge and I can see them being very useful for the car, wee hanging clip + magnetic + much better than the head torch for a wider surface area, and whilst they don’t compare to my hand held torch for brightness they are most definitely worth the money and the 2 pack is great value. Don’t hesitate to buy as you won’t be disappointed.10/10. Thanks.

Used this product outdoors for an event lasting afternoon and into the night, where participants had to read clues and perform actions.
The lights were really good, belying their small size and we particulalrly liked the “warm” brightness rather than the more harsh white light. The lamps are compact and turn on as you lift the top.
They were run for more than four hours each and the batteries held up for the whole period, still with no sign of them running low. Really pleased with the purchase.

Bought these after seeing them at my Mums house & being impressed. Great battery powered bright portable lights. So handy for so many occasions. My Mum uses it as a night light during the nighttime if she needs to go for a wee & doesn’t want to put a big light on. This is pretty damn bright though so do not underestimate the power of it if you think ‘it’s just a battery powered light, how bright can it be?’ Also like the handle, pop-up feature & magnets on the base. Really impressed. Only thing now is to see how long the 4 x AA batteries last.

Using for multiple purposes – primarily bought for outside use since the external sensor based light failed and it’s poor weather for getting out and fixing / replacing. But have used this for working in loft space, rooting around in a tool cupboard and a shed for tools etc.

The lanterns are bright so they light up a very big area, and are lightweigh tso you hardly know they are there if fastened to a belt etc. The magnetic base was useful in the loft afaiunst a tank when checking a shower route, and because they collapse they are very easy to store.

Ticks all the boxes I need, including a pair of great products at a good price!
If you need such a beast I’d say they come recommended.

EXCELLENT IN ALL CATEGORIES ( 5 STARS OUT OF 5 ). RARE FOR ME TO AWARD THAT TO ANY ITEM SO ITS GOT TO BE GOOD. IF YOU SHOULD PURCHASE THESES ITEMS – THEY CERTAINLY GET MY RECOMMENDATION – DON’T LOOK INTO THE LIGHT WHEN YOU OPEN THEM AS YOU WILL BE TRYING TO GET THE IMAGE OUT OF YOUR SIGHT FOR A MIGHTY LONG TIME. THEY REALLY ARE THAT BRIGHT. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET MY HOUSING ASSOCIATION TO FIT A LIGHT OUTSIDE MY BACK DOOR FOR AGES AS I OFTEN HAVE TO USE CRUTCHES & THERE IS A STEP AND A KIND OF CONCRETE LIP LEADING UP INTO MY BUNGALOW. THEY HAVE UMMED AND ARRRD FOR AGES. WITH THESE HERO BEAM LANTERNS, I SIMPLY SCREWED A HOOK INTO THE BUNGALOWS OVERHANG & NOW WHEN I GO OUT IN THE GARDEN AFTER DARK, I SIMPLY HANG A HEROBEAM FROM THE HOOK, SLIDE DOWN THE BOTTOM SECTION. VERY SMOOTH ACTION & IT NOT ONLY LIGHTS UP THE STEP AREA BUT JUST ABOUT ALL THE GARDEN. BATTERIES IN THEM LAST A VERY LONG TIME. I COULDN’T GIVE YOU A PROPER BATTERY LONGEVITY BUT I USE IT EVERYTIME THAT I GO INTO THE GARDEN AFTER DARK. ALSO IT STAYS ON CONSTANTLY WHEN I HAVE ONE OF MY MANY BONFIRES. ALL THAT SAID, I AM STILL ON THE VERY FIRST SET OF BATTERIES. IT ALSO GOES ON CONSTANTLY WHEN THE DOG WANTS A WHOOPSIE AT NIGHT. YOU GET THE PICTURE THEY ARE NOT BATTERY DRAINERS & THEY REMAIN BRIGHT. I’VE NOT FOUND A USE FOR THE MAGNETS ON THE BASE AS YET BUT I COULD SEE THEM BEING OF USE TO CAMPERS FOR KEYS ETC. WHILST THEY ARE UNDER 20 ( $26.43 USD ) THEY ARE AT A REASONABLE PRICE. RAISE THE PRICE & I’D WALK ON BY. ALL THIS AND A 2 YEAR GUARANTEE.

I live in the country, so no streetlights an quite a lot of power cuts. I have found the best way to deal with this is to have a lantern in every room so that I don’t have to stumble round in the dark. These lanterns are unobtrusive (When not in use they collapse down, hiding the lens) and disappear into the background. The battery life is good. I got my first pair two years ago and haven’t had to change the battery yet.
They provide a bright light. One is enough to read by. Two illuminate a room.
They have a carrying handle and are not heavy so are ideal if walking down an unlit lane.
    A good reliable product.

We needed a portable lighting solution for the stables without running power all the way out to the barn and bought these as a temporary stopgap till we could get something else sorted out.

Turns out we didn’t need anything else, these are phenomenally bright and are easily enough to light the entire of the stables (two stables, each one more than 20′ square). They run from normal AA batteries and have both a magnetic base and a hook to hang it from depending on your requirement. We haven’t changed the batteries it came with yet and have been running them for a few months at about twenty minutes a day.

Excellent light, would recommend without hesitation.

    Very Light, Very Brigh

I bought this light for a power cut & as luck would have it a couple of days after I received the lantern, I got a power cut. I found it very easy to use, un#crew the base & put in the batteries, pull the top up by the 2 arms either side & you have the light on, to stop the light, just push the top down, nothing could be simpler. The light is bright enough to either read or get on with some work & it is light weight to move around with ease. Although it’s light weight it seems to be sturdy as well. Overall very happy with the lantern, I would highly recommend this item.

  65. LorriZXGDqj says:

The versatile design allows you to hang them from a hook, place them on the ground or a bench, or carry them like lanterns. The light is very bright which you can reduce by closing the housing a if it’s too much.

We just used pound shop batteries and only had to change them once a day while camping, so 4-5 hours. They do dim over time but are extremely bright with new batteries, to the point we closed them a bit until the batteries died down slightly.

Build quality is fairly good considering the price. The casing is plastic dressed up to look like aluminium, but the open / close action has a nice solid feel to it. The handles are steel and fold away nicely when not in use.

The light is not as directional as some LED lights, it spreads quite nicely and lights a room if hung from a roof hook or if sat next to a bed.

Purchased these 2 lanterns following a power outage in the early morning, as I was getting ready for work. My torch had little life left in batteries and had to use my head torch to get about the house. Really suprised at the quality of these lanterns for the money ( unde10m each) and they came with batteries!. They give off a good light in the dark and have a multitude of uses both around the house and camping. Aso very easy to turn on, just pull the handle on the top, whilst holding the base. Plan to keep one upstairs and one downstairs in readiness for future power cuts which seem to be happening more often the past few years in our area. I would buy again and recommend to others to have around the house. Cannot rate battery life as this will depend on use and quality of batteries. Appear well made and robust. Very please with the purchase and would buy again.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersI did not review these lamps when I bought them, I thought I would give them the test of time. I bought the twin pack in Sept 2017. I have used one of them regularly during this time and have had no qualms about the product. I have always used rechargeables. Recently I bought a set of Eneloop batteries as they hold their charge for up to ten years?? I found they do not work with three of these type of batteries together for some reason; possibly some current protection device. To get over this problem I have used a cheaper rechargeable plus x2 eneloop batteries this seems to work. Yesterday we had a power cut, and they were going to come in handy. My second lamp rarely used was stuck on the side of the kitchen fridge by magnet, however the batteries were flat. I unscrewed the base and inserted the same arrangement of batteries as described previously. On screwing up the base cap there was a cracking sound the cap had cracked. I was able to continue using it but the life of the cap now is questionable. I am going to email the company to see if they honour their 5 year guarantee and will report back here the result of this claim for replacement cap. This pending, and with the result of a succesful conclusion I can/will recommend the product and will increace my rating to 5 stars.

p.s. Update 15/03/2018 How about this for service – I lodged my guarantee claim for a broken base 14/03/18 at 21:39 – at precisely 21:56
I had a very pleasant return email from Jason at Hero Beam, apologising for the problem and notifying me that a replacement will be sent out in the post. Thank you Hero Beam. You cannot get better than that.

After hours researching lamps I went with these. They seem to be a good price for two lamps under twenty pounds. They are also more cost effective as they take 3 normal AA batteries as a lot of others I looked at take much bigger batteries that cost a lot to buy. I also use rechargeable batteries in these to keep the costs down over time. They each have four magnets at the bottom that are really strong and really handy for what we use them for. The purpose for buying them was not for the typical camping experience but we needed them for some light with cows calving in a barn that is temporarily without power for the next few weeks. We’ve only had them less than week but they have been really good the last two nights to leave on all night. The magnet sticks them right to the metal posts in the barn, very handy. It probably depends on the batteries but for the brand new rechargeable batteries we used the light lasted from half eight last night until one pm today. The light was considerably dull by that time but it does stay bright for a good few hours before dimming.
The only con with these lights is we wish they had more than the one light setting. They are really good and bright but it would be handy if we could dim the light a bit which would also make them last longer but still we are very happy with them so far.

Compact for easy storage but very bright in use – one lantern in the middle of our kitchen (approx. 5.5m x 4m) lit the whole room so that it was possible to work comfortably, whilst the other lantern was in use elsewhere. Obviously two lanterns would have made the kitchen even brighter. Another positive is that they run on comparatively inexpensive 3 AA batteries (unlike our old lamps that run on expensive D type batteries). Whilst it is possible to close these lanterns to reduce the amount of light emitted, a future improvement would be the option to switch to half power to gain greater battery saving where a useable but less bright light was needed. We have also purchased 2 LED lamps (200 lms each) from Tesco that are priced similarly but require 4 AA batteries (supplied). These additionally have low and flashing options but have permanent diffusers and are bright but significantly less so, even on the highest setting, than the HeroBeam lanterns (300 lms each). The difference in battery requirements and life (Tesco lamps stated operation time is 4 hour continuous use) and the light output suggests to us that the HeroBeam lanterns use more advance technology. The HeroBeam lanterns have better / more practical and sturdy handles/hooks than the Tesco lamps. By comparison we much prefer the HeroBeam lanterns.

Golden Review Award: 28 From Our UsersThese are for power cuts and grabbing in winter. Simple to use – pull the handles up and the light gets taller and comes on Takes 3 AA batteries and then gives great lpowerful light out. I would highly recommend them. We had a power cut, they gave very good powerful LED light from a lantern effect so spread the ligh round. I have bought 2 more. Also HeroBeams are very good to deal with, I had an issue with 1, they replaced it on return free of charge for post etc.

We brought 4 of these lanterns, I use them in the garage as our garage has no electricity running to it. I also use them outside to light up an area where I skip. They do the job perfectly, easy to use, only needing 3 AA batteries for each lantern. I love the fact I do not need to hunt for a switch as they go on when pulling up the handles to show the light and go off when it is pushed back down. The lanterns have a very bright white light, they are small, compact and lightweight. I use all four of them together for about 1 hour each time and I can say that the outside casing does not get hot or warm.
There are four magnets on the base of each which would be handy, I would imagine if working on a car, there is also a small hook on the bottom which can fold out and will take the weight of the lantern if needed, to hang it up-side-down. I think everyone should have at least one lantern as a stand by and would highly recommend them.

Golden Review Award: 13 From Our UsersThese were exceptional, very good lamps.

Also good value, compared to the most basic led light/torch even they come in at 4-5 pounds. Its worth a few extra pounds for these!

Much more compact than I expected, but not a bad thing.

Its got magnets so can stick it to things like the fridge at home, or the camping cooker stand. Gonna keep these handy for power cuts.

1 thing is be careful its properly closed (closing is the off switch) or the light will still be on and running down the battery.

Golden Review Award: 34 From Our UsersAbsolutely great lanterns. Very bright light, no switches to fumble with in the dark. They include magnets on the base, carry handles that fold up, AND also a plastic hook that folds out from the base – perfect for hanging in a tent. A nice feature is that because the light slides up from the battery housing, you can actually adjust the brightness – just don’t extend it fully if you want a dimmer light. Perfect for camping or general use.

The “Twin Pack” option is definitely a bargain.

Overall the best LED lights I have owned!

Golden Review Award: 30 From Our UsersI bought these for each of my 2 daughters, for when we stay in a relative’s house if they need to go to the loo in the night. (The light pulls in the bathroom are so high up they can’t reach them).

They love them, and have since used them loads. They’re lightweight, can be hung up, carried or sit on a flat surface, so ideal as a camping light, playing in dens or taking with you in a dimly lit house.

They produce an unexpectedly bright light and are so bright they’re hard to look at!

Like many people I have bought the expensive lights, the millions of candles lights, the portable lights…the lot. Each has a major downfall….expensive batteries, recharging points not available or long recharge times, heavy to hold, not that bright. The list goes on. I wanted a torch I could carry, put down to chill in the garden or inspect something. I wanted it easy to use, no tricky buttons. At the same time it has to look good. This lamp does all that. The best thing from my point of view is I always have AA batteries in, so if it needs new batteries, it is easy and cheap! The way it slides to open makes it easy to make sure you turn it off….no more standing it on the lamp section and discovering later I left it on…so it is dead. It is light, but not so light as to say cheap made, it is light enough to use and strong enough to stand up to a light breeze if it was on the ground. The handles make it easy to hang up on a hook etc. Would I buy it again…definitely. I don’t think I will need to repurchase though. It sits next to my wellies, in the hall, waiting to go out to the goats, lambs etc. I can quickly put it down and tend to them in decent light. It really is a big deal the battery thing, I don’t know how often my Maglit has sat waiting to be refilled with those expensive batteries. Then I try to avoid using it because I don’t want to spend a fortune on new batteries. No torch does everything, but for me this is good.

I’ve had this a few days now, so whilst I can’t comment on long-term durability, it seems of sturdy construction. Being made of plastic and not metal I can’t think it would survive high levels of punishment, but would certainly stand up to the typical amount of wear and tear of a camping trip. I have not tested whether it continues to work when subjected to a lot of water as might be encountered in bad weather though.

The lantern gives out a bright, if slightly cold, 360-degree light, easily lighting up everything in a 4-5 metre radius in the dark. When not in use, the lantern collapses down into the base, and the handles fold down into the grooves, resulting in a much more compact size; in fact, the whole lantern is quite a bit smaller than I thought it would be (being more used to paraffin hurricane lanterns); which is no bad thing; it fits easily into the space under the floor of the boot in our car, where it can stay for emergency use.

Overall, I would recommend this if you are after a moderately sturdy, very compact and bright lantern.

I bought a double pack because of the better value and because two will be more useful in the event of a power cut.
The overall appearance is attractive in a subdued way – quite a solid-feeling metallic darkish grey plastic – just a smidgin taller and thicker than a soupcan.
The plastic bottom seems quite substantial and feels tight (in a good way) as it unscrews. Three AA batteries fit in with no fuss. You need to get the thread right to screw back on, but it screws back firmly. Reviews for other lamps complain about awkward battery compartment designs and the need for DD batteries.
You pull the top of the lamp, attached to metal handle, to activate the light. This pushes the height up from 12 to 18 centimetres – or one-and-a-half soupcans. The slide action is smooth and again seems quite tight so less likely to slip down of its own accord.
The light is white, harsh and blinding. I would advise looking away as you pull the top up. We were very pleased with the amount of light produced by these lamps which can each light up a big living room satisfactorily (for us anyway). Ideally you would like the lights to hang above you, and maybe for the battery compartment to be redesigned to be at the top so light could come through a clear plastic base?
However my confidence in these units was shaken when I opened one lamp for the first time and after the initial blinding light the light strips suddenly dimmed considerably so that I was able to look at the 3 vertical strips and see the individual dot lights in each strip without much discomfort. I tried opening and closing the lamp a few times and also refitted the batteries and since then the light has remained blinding. I would like to know what exactly caused the temporary problem and whether it is likely to recur.
Overall I am very pleased with the quality of the product and its operation, but I do have a niggling doubt now.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersWe had a power cut and we thought we had better get some lanterns in ready for the winter ,We had looked a quite a few then we spotted these which seemed to fit the bill . Not to big to store and they took AA batteries and according to reviews had a good white light so we decided on these.
When they arrived my husband could not wait to try them, first thing we found was how need they were to store and in use the next thing was the light out put we just could not really believe how something that small could not give a good light .To our amazement the light was bright and did not flicker light some we had tried, the test would be how well they preformed when all the lights went out , as the reviews said we the light was great for a small device and AA batteries,we have a large kitchen diner and you see could see the light was very white with no flickers.then the bedroom again the lantern preformed well compared with the lantern that was much lager and took four of the D size batteries which we had thought had a good light so we were very pleased with our purchase .So if you want a small lantern that gives a good white light than these will fit the bill.

Golden Review Award: 22 From Our UsersWith the evenings drawing in, I needed a new lantern for the garage where I store my motorbike and I came across these. After watching a video review of them I decided to get the twin pack. I have to admit that they were smaller than expected when I opened the box so I was even more surprised at the amount of light they gave out. Even though they are made of plastic they are still sturdy and well built so this should not put people off buying. Although I did buy two, I probably won`t need both in the garage as one lantern gives out more than enough light for my needs so the other will be kept in the house in case it is needed there. Very impressive. I would recommend these to anyone.

Definitely worth the five star rating.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersThis a a well-designed and well-made lantern. Very cleverly made so the light pushes down into the body of the lantern when not in use. No need for a switch, as it is turned off and on by the action of pulling or pushing the light into and out of the base. That feature alone makes this super little-but-powerful lantern worth buying. It also looks good, and the quality shines out. (Sorry, couldn’t resit the pun there – and anyway puns are meant to moaned at.)

However, no moans about this lantern. It emits a brilliant light. Try not to look directly at it, or you will get an after image on your retina – it’s that powerful. The folding handles are another neat design feature, as they can be used to carry the lantern, or hang it from any convenient hook.

It runs on three AA batteries, so lots of juice and the potential to last for many hours. If you can, use rechargeable batteries, such as the Amazon basics AmazonBasics AA Pre-Charged Rechargeable Batteries 2000 mAh [Pack of 8 ]. These batteries come ready charged and save money in the not-so-long run. I use nothing other than rechargeable batteries now, and, to keep them in top form, invested in a smart battery charger. This is the one to go for. Youshiko YC4000 Intelligent AA AAA Professional Standard Battery Charger (UK Version) with 1000mA charge current + USB Po

I bought this product because I have a camping trip coming up and some other reviews were favourable. Having prime meant it wouldnt be long before I could test the product and being a bit of a torch/light fanatic I always put such items through their paces.

Rather than explain how I like the product, I want to write this review for anyone looking for a lantern, torch, area light whatever it may be.

Ease Of Use: remove bottom screw cap, insert 3xAA batteries (i recommend panasonic eneloop rechargeables as these have lasted 20 hours without the light so much as dimming). Pull up the lantern to “unfold” it. The light comes on. To turn it off, close the lamp. Simple and efficient.

Brightness: Very bright for only 3 AA batteries. The light emits far and wide for a lightweight lamp device yet without being so ridiculously bright it would be uncomfortable. It feels like they have really considered user comfort just as importantly as brightness and throw and have reached a pefect balance.

It lights up our large 8 man octagonal tent perfectly. You can still read a book fine with one lamp attached to the top of the tent. The second unit is now in my shed in place of having to run mains up the garden. Its perfect. Can also work in the loft, the airing cupboard, walk in wardrobes, under beds, as a garden lamp, its just a perfect little accessory where you may need light. And with the right batteries will last a very long time left on before a battery change is required.

Overall I love the product and whilst ive only had it a short while already my list of uses is massive.

I couldnt recommend a product more for its versatility and usability.

I have been looking for a decent lantern at a reasonable price to take camping and for those late evenings in the garden following a bbq.
These look very stylish and seem to be quite sturdy (one survived being dropped onto a solid floor from waist height with no sign of damage).
Our village has no street lighting so these will be well used to fully enjoy those long summer nights sitting out in the garden. They seem a viable alternative to more expensive garden lighting which we have purchased in the past and have been disappointed with the results as they were nowhere near as efficient and bright as these.
The size is great and fits in one hand in the collapsed state with the metal handles making it easy to carry or hang from a bracket/hook. They are great for camping/backpacking as the small size means they take up little space. I can’t comment on battery life as I have only had them for 4 days and even though they have been used every night it is too early to tell, I am hoping that with the LED technology that battery life will be excellent.
The lanterns are easy to turn on, simply grasp the top and bottom and extend apart. I like the fact that you can adjust the brightness according to how far apart you extend them. Extend it open less than one inch and you get a subtle glow, great for reading without disturbing others. Extend it fully and it easily provides plenty of light to walk etc.
One thing about lanterns is they can easily blind you as there is no way to direct the light away from you so if using these to illuminate your path then they need holding above your head or to one side otherwise you won’t be able to see a thing! Not a major issue but something to keep in mind.
All in all these have surprised me with how they look and the illumination they provide – I definitely recommend them.

Golden Review Award: 72 From Our UsersJust received a pack of 2 of these lanterns for close on 20. I had been looking for something following recent power cuts at home and work. (After much searching here on Amazon I found a 500 lumen lantern at 15 that looked about as good as you can get for a relatively low price. However, it takes D size batteries which are neither cheap nor readily available in all stores these days. I decided to keep looking and then found this twin pack that seemed to tick all the boxes).

This particular lamp is half the price of the 500 lumen one and runs off 3 x AA batteries – these are very cheap and very available! However, it is only 300 lumen. I was attracted to this model due to the spec, price and the many 5 star reviews – most coming from customers who received a discount for providing a fair review. (I tried but failed to get a similar discounted deal; too late!) I was therefore determined to provide my own review based on paying full price.

The lamps arrived within a few days and were nicely boxed and packaged. They are of a similar size to a can of baked beans. The base unscrews easily to allow the batteries (not provided) to be inserted. Two hinged carry handles fit very neatly into the plastic, metallic grey coloured body. Pulling the lamp open automatically turns the light on (closing it turns it off). The light is extremely bright and cannot be looked into comfortably. The 3 LED strips provide a uniform all round light that is quite silver and somewhat unnatural – a normal characteristic of LED lights. The ‘amount of light’ is actually quite good considering only 3 AA’s are employed – a small, black dark room can be illuminated to walk around safely, and a good reading level of light is provided in the immediate 2 to 3 feet distance. However, do not expect the same amount of light you get from a small light bulb – this lantern is not a substitute for household lights or lamps; it is for camping, outdoors and emergency use only.

I think one selling point for this lantern is its suitability for elderly folk to have next to the bed for night use – the simple mode of turning on and off makes it ideal for anyone who may struggle with fiddly light switches – The same benefits could apply to young children as well. On the downside, I don’t agree with the comments regarding the ruggedness of the lamp body – it looks really smart, but the plastic material may well shatter if dropped onto a hard surface (I would not like to risk drop testing it).

All in all I do like these lamps and think they are worth 10 each (probably not much more). They give off a reasonable degree of light, operate very easily and look good. I would recommend them and will probably buy more if I come to need to. All that remains to be seen is how long the batteries last, and more importantly how long the LED strips and the internal switch lasts – but I’m optimistic.

Would definitely make a good present for young/teenage boys or blokes who like gadgets!
