Hood portable ac quite happy with it. Keeps the room cool and fan option is great too. Only complain is the hose which I wish would’ve been little longer plus the window attachment given isn’t compatible to most windows in Uk. Please come up with a design so we don’t have to buy another temporary solution.
Early 2021 we bought one of these Inventor Air-conditioning units for our conservatory. Our previous unit could not handle really hot days and could not heat in the winter, plus it was exceptionally expensive to run.
Inventor Magic does both hot and cold and does it relatively inexpensively. At least half the cost of our old unit. It does what it is suppose to do in an effective and efficient manner. The price from last year had reduced slightly, so we bought a second one for our bedroom. On scanning Google shopping, we established Amazon as the best price and found one retailer, selling the exact same unit for over 1,000 more! Whilst that was a ridiculous amount, I do think the 399 to be great price point for this quality.
Bought the version that has a heat pump too, I do live in Scotland after all, both cooling and heating work great, the window kit won’t work, unless you have a sliding window or old style sash windows, I used to have an old gas fire in the living room, and when the central heating was upgraded it was removed and boarded over, I simply cut a 5″ hole in the board and used the buildings existing flu to vent out, it’s bigger and heavier than I thought, but appears to be well made, will change my living room temp a few degrees each way in minutes, if I’m being honest, it’s more powerful than I need, but I’d rather have it in case the boiler goes in the middle of a harsh winter, didn’t notice any reduction in noise on sleep mode, was actually quieter on the lowest fan setting, I couldn’t sleep with this thing running in the same room, but that’s not what I bought it for, I’m happy with my purchase.
Ok, I’ve had this for over a year now. Here’s what you need to know – it chills a room from 20C to 16C (according to the thermometer in the room) in about 1.5 to 2 hours (room is 22 cubic metres or 770 cubic feet roughly). It makes about as much noise as a 16inch desk fan on full. I only used it once to heat the room (just to try it), it worked fine (FYI – make sure you use the hose for water extraction to a bucket or something or you will end up with a wet floor – as I did. RTFM).
I did buy an extension for the exhaust (not recommended by the manufacturer) as I wanted to vent out a small transom window, I’ve had no issues. The remote is good but as someone else pointed out, it can be tricky sometimes reading the lettering for the buttons. It offers the ability to have the unit switch off after a set period (increments of half hours), and also turn back on. So you could chill a bedroom switch it off going to bed, have the unit switch itself on after a few hours, and then switch itself back off after another few hours (or leave it on and have it switch off then back on).
The room I have this in is pretty well sealed. I used an acrylic sheet cut to size for the small window with a cut out for the vent hose. The room should be sealed as much as possible to give better cooling/heating.
Love it not a massive difference in fan speeds low med is most needed takes a couple mins for heat pump to kick in it’s great if cooling and heating is what your looking for this is it the best make sure you install it properly and make sure it’s vented into the outside nicely can’t say anything else
Very effective cooling unit. Very quiet for a portable. The inverter technology keeps the room temperature stable without constant on-off switching of compressor. Only had the unit for a month or so but it seems very well built and I would say it’s really good value for money.
Quality A/C and heater. Compact and efficient. Noisy, but they all are. Remote control is robust and comprehensive. Has a built it water pump.
In case you don’t know A/C’s produce water (condensate) and have to be drained, especially on heating mode, or they will shut down periodically. Usually you place a tray beneath them and it’s all very awkward and messy. However this unit has a built in condensate pump and periodically actively pumps water out, even up hill, against gravity. You can connect a pvc pipe and run it to a bucket, or out through the window or the wall. This is much easier than gravity-only drainage. That alone makes it much more convenient than most AC’s I’ve used.
I don’t know anything about air conditioners and this was my first time using and buying one. It does the job well and leaves our relatively small living room nice and cool whenever we need it. There was one particuarly hot day during summer where it seemed to struggle to keep the temperature low – it was just about the right temperature, I dread to think how hot the room would have been without it! We didn’t bother sealing the window as it seems to work fine without it, if you did seal the window you would probably see even better results. So yes, this works for us and I recommend it.
The Inventor Magic is a great all round performer. Top Unit!*
Very responsive. Brilliant at all its functions. Well made.
Remote controller works well with it, too.
If it is your first time, please give yourself a little room to get used to it & you will reap the rewards with a smile*:-)
Tip:
For exhausting in its Air Conditioning function, we made our own plywood board kit to hang in our living room window – with a hole cut in it for the exhaust pipe. We put screws in the top of the window frame & a couple of tiny holes with zip tie hoops along the top of the board for hanging. We painted the plywood white. We bought a window kit for the bedroom, also.
Enjoy Everyone*****
Brilliant and quiet – exactly what we were looking fo
This is a big boi. It will cool a whole big living room/kitchen + living room area without much effort during a heatwave.
You do need to put the exhaust tube somewhere, but it doesn’t really have to be too snug – in my case, it just works by placing it through an open balcony (Juliet balcony, because I rent an overpriced shoebox in London) door, and then drawing the curtains in front of it.
Obviously, the downside is it’s like having an old Volkswagen motor idling in there – especially when the compressor kicks in to pump cold air.
Aside from the noise this really is a gem and it’s not just aircon but a heater aswell highly recommend
Like the mobility bit fiddley having to put tube outside l had to make a fitting to put in patio sliding doo
The exhaust hose not really long enough but apart from that I am very pleased
Great item to have on a really hot summer day, easy to work the machine, and looking good too
Great cooling system for hot steamy nights but a little noisy
brilliant all round machine have used all settings well worth the money.
A bit noisy but its 12,000 BTU. You couldn’t really sleep with this on even in sleep mode. Remote control is difficult to use so I just use the controls on the unit. Window kit is okay for sliding windows and doors but not quite tall enough for a patio door. So get a piece of UPVC Window ledge, cut to size, use the enclosed window kit as a pattern and then you have a completely sealed room.
Noise level is great even on high a/c could do with a longer exhaust tube as 1.5 m is a bit short (for me anyway) I’m impressed it comes with the window fixings to block up the window when in use, some others you pay extra for. Cooling is more than adequate in a large room, not tried the heat or dehumidifying option yet, will post again when I do. Looks great very stylish, the option for the louver to move up and down is good as is the fact it all closes up when you switch off overall I would give this a solid 9 out of 10.
Apprehension about buying Air Con and spent hours reviewing specs and reviews. Bought this unit and not disappointed as it does what it reviews say! Enjoy because hot days are coming!
After quite a great deal of pondering and reading the reviews decided on this Inventor Magic 12.000 BTU unit. It does as it says on the tin and effectively cools the room. Not overly noisy as air con units go but that’s always a difficult one to compare and rate. Would have been nice to have a longer vent hose – but easily obtainable online. Speedy delivery – overall very pleased.
Great machine. Only used the cooling setting so far but it works brilliantly. Piped the air duct pipe out through a window with a mesh kit. Seems to do the trick ok.
Great device for hot/ cool days. I hade the little issue with the delivery but support team was very very nice to help with my issue.
About noise level, i think is normal to be a bit noisy due to having 2 large internal fans and one large compressor, apart from that the noise level its decent. It took apox. one hour to cool my room from 29 to 23. I really recomend this device.
unit worked well and was efficient and not too noisy. The exhaust hose is not very long making it difficult to remove the hot air through a normal window. Other than that it is a good unit.
Bought as summers are getting hotter, I have a very large living room and it took took just 10-15 mins for the air con to drop from 30 degrees to 21 degrees and remain at that temp all day. It is noisy but I just turn the volume up on the tv.
I haven’t used the sleep mode yet to be able to make a comment. I’m very happy with it.
Purchased for new office. Very efficient and fan is not too noisy. More than happy
Being mr practical (partly because of my job) and I have solar panels I thought I would make the most of the energy I am producing during this heatwave. Also I don’t really enjoy very high temperatures.
This unit got delivered today about 4 hours ago. Was up and running in 20 minutes with just the hose going through a patio door for now.
Things to note, it’s fairly heavy but no big deal as it’s on casters. It is rather noisy regardless of fan speed settings, so I would suggest doing a temporary placement initially. Currently mine is in the front room but that will become unworkable and annoying. I will eventually vent it through a wall when I’ve tried different positions.
I’m in a fairly big 2 bed detached bungalow so I’m asking a fair bit from this unit to cool the whole space, tho I initially closed all doors windows etc so as just to cool the living room 5.5 meters x 3 meters. Within 20 minutes I definitely noticed the difference.
Nearly 30 degrees outside and I’ve opened all internal doors and closed all windows apart from the patio door that is open enough to get the hose out and I’m cool enough to be bothered to type this review.Current temperature inside now is 23 degrees Celsius after approximately 4 hours of constant running, and that’s throughout the whole property not just one room.
If this machine lasts I’ll be impressed.
A point no one seems to mention.
I am a dog owner who is getting old and becoming more fussy with his food. Normally it’s not an issue but with this heat, it brings flys. If you’ve got your windows open in the summer to try and stay cool then you will soon get fit using a fly swatter as they land on pets food or even your food. All my windows are closed at present regardless of the outside temperature, guess what? No flys can get in and I’m /we are still comfortable.
Just something to think about when you may be considering an air con unit. I didn’t even think about it before, but then it became obvious.
Running costs.
As I mentioned I have solar panels so less of an issue for me, but I still monitor energy usage.
Expect to use an extra 1-1.5 kilowatts of electricity per hour. Roughly at today’s prices that’s an extra 15pence per hour that the unit is running on cooling mode.
Summary,
I could sit in the shade in the garden at no cost and listen to the birds as I melt, it will cost more to run, it’s noisy so plan your install as it may not need to be in your bedroom or living room,
I’m very comfortable while typing this review and my whole space is cool enough for me. All doors and windows are shut, and no blinking flys landing on my or my dogs food in the summer heat.
If I was selling this to myself, the fly bit would of won me over.
IF it lasts a good few years in the brief time we need air con in the uk, then it’s worth it in my opinion.
Hope this helps a few out there to decide. And no I’ve nothing to do with whoever makes this thing, just a guy looking after his dog and himself..
Life saver. Not too noisy and it’s got wheels so you can move it around. Was heavy to take up the stairs so if you’re a woman on your own, you’ll need help. Not suitable for frail or elderly to carry around. Loved the boxing – you take the straps off the box and the rest of the box just lifts to minimise trouble of getting the aircon out of its packaging. Simple set up. Hugely enjoyable
Yes it is noisy and rather bulky but right now its 28 degrees outside and it feels like 20 in my living room/dinner. This AC unit will easily make a 5m x 5m room feel like a fridge. The fact it’s cooling two 5 x 5 rooms easily right now has impressed me. Other reviewers are correct that the window fitment that comes with it is useless on uk windows but I’m going to get some perspex cut with a hole in it to fit the vent hose and then velcro it over a open window to make it more efficient and effective but for now I have the hose hanging out of a small window and the unit on full blast and it is still working enough to be noticeable cooler.
I’ve ordered a lot from Amazon, and this is the first time I am writing a review for a product I ordered.
It was extremely important for me to get this item right, and after substantial research, I decided it will be the right choice for me to fight off the heat waves. I was so happy to discover this inventor is as good as the reviews mention it is.
Heat is my worst nightmare, and I am infamously known to pursue the cooler temperatures at home and at work, so if I’m happy with it, anyone should be as well.
Other than being great in cooling, which is the most important thing, it is also quite silent (the most silent unit I’ve seen thus far), it is actually portable as it is super easy to glide it between rooms, takes a minute from the second you unpack till the time it starts cooling, and also looks great!
I had my 3rd baby in a heatwave. I remember wishing I had air conditioning whilst lumping around a 9lb+ baby. Humidity and sweating from not even exerting myself has always made me feel almost claustrophobic, as if I can’t get my breath. This year for my birthday in May I treated myself to this unit. It had been in my basket for over a year. I felt like spending so much on perhaps 2 weeks use per year would make it not cost effective at all. However as a single parent once a year it’s nice to buy a present for yourself that you will actually really appreciate (last years was an IPL machine – also had a great experience with this) because you only really ever spend money on the kids usually so it makes birthdays a bit less depressing.
The unit was delivered as expected, in great condition, all parts present and SUPER heavy. I know it says portable but * me, I won’t be moving that EVER again it will live and die in the same spot.
I have windows that open outwards so the window kit wasn’t the right size I’d realised this from the reviews on here so had ordered one also.
Once I’d sealed the window I connected the pipe and pressed on. Its pretty simple to use. It’s noisy but no nosier than my industrial fan. I quite like background noise being as my bedroom is facing the road outside and usually sleep with a fan on most the year round anyway.
It was great. So cool.
I have left off reviewing until the units been properly tested. So this week has been the test week!
While everyone has been on social media this week melting in this July 2021 heatwave; people haven’t been sleeping properly as it’s just too uncomfortable to get to sleep at temperatures of 25 degrees overnight (inside with no breeze feels warmer with the insulation in houses); the air conditioning unit has been on 24/7 set at 17. The whole house is a little cooler and my bedroom is Sooooo cool. The kids have been sleeping in my room and one has complained it’s too cold and the other has been sleeping in long pyjamas and his 10.5 tog duvet.
We are all sleeping so well in the night, and my best friend has visited twice in the last week and spent a few hours in my bedroom just to have some respite from the heat.
To summarise I LOVE it
100% worth it.
Buy it! It’s in and out of stock all the time so get it when it’s around (preferably in a colder season when it’s cheaper)
Cools down well, had a few over the years and this is great. Note the specs, it is a significant unit. & the noise level is as expected. Gets the room comfortable quickly then not needed for a period.
When in air con mode no draining is required. (significant + from some old units)
This is a seriously solid piece of equipment. It runs at around 60 decibels and cools our entire downstairs open plan layout (80 m2).
Rather heavy but easy to move using the castors.
I am so pleased with this air con unit which arrived today.. I must of purchased every 5 star fan going over the last couple of months & nothing seemed to be strong enough to cool down my log cabin in which I work from!
This unit is absolutely perfect.. it’s not too noisy Altho it’s obviously not going to a silent piece of equipment.
I totally recommend.
Tried for the first time this week and so glad I had bought it. Nice and cool room thanks to this. Noise not as bad as I thought it would be
It cools down a hot room quickly. Works a treat with this hot weather we are getting. The noise level is too high for me to leave it on whilst trying to have a sleep. Overall I’m pleased with the product.
My aircon unit broke – their support was both super quick to respond, but also got me a new unit within 2 days (arriving at 0830!). Honestly the best customer service I’ve ever received by from company. Everything was fast an efficient. Thank you Dmitris for the excellent customer service.
Aircon unit is a life-saver, and I missed my 2 days with it not working. Regularly use the air-con and dehumidifier modes in my bedroom and office, both functions do an excellent job.
I like this unit. At almost half the price of the more recognisable brands it’s good value. In my kitchen diner, even when having to cook or use oven it seems to manage to keep the temperature at a steadyish 20degrees Celsius when on auto set at max. So far hottest it’s been out is 26 but I’m quite pleased. In these modern flats it’s just horrible putting up with the heat. last yr before I bought this unit we hit 40degrees in the living room so hopefully this unit will continue to keep us cool.
Setup v easy. Unit weighs about 30kg and is bulky so deffo 2 person job to get it indoors.
Hose could be longer to reach windows, I had to add some hosing but easy to buy extension kit if you can’t make it fit. I also bought universal window kit on Amazon to make a more airtight seal and does the job despite being bit too large for window.
Not looking forward to getting the electricity bill this yr but totally worth it.
Remote works fine but don’t find it adds much.
It is averagely noisy but actually find it quite pleasant as background noise.
For the money deffo recommend. Keeps our moderate size kitchen diner cool.
Update, 32 outside and kept it 24 inside. Not bad considering this place is basically a greenhouse and we are creating heat working from home.
Cools my average-sized room very effectively, do note that the window kit provided only works for certain types of windows; I had to buy a 3rd party kit for my window but this was not a big concern.
Bear in mind, since it is a single-hose design, the room’s air is used as exhaust, so it decreases the pressure in the room and draws in air from the rest of the house.
Cools our loft bedroom quickly and efficiently. It’s slightly noisy but not unbearable. It comes with the pipe to let the hot air out which is great as a lot of other brands requires you to buy it separately. Definitely good value for money.
Very happy, cut an output through the wall. Large lounge and it does the job well
I haven’t checked myself exactly yet, but I think it’s ok
This is AMAZING. The flat i live in London is like a sauna when the sun comes out even if it’s 20 degrees outside, in my flat the temperature is 27 degrees. It retains heat a lot. We have tried other units and they have not worked at all so we decided to spend more money and got this and thankfully works wonders. It really drops the temperature within a hour, it’s such a relief. Recommend buying, don’t hesitate.
I Don’t normally write a review. But I thought I had to. After needing some parts the customer service was above expectations.the parts were posted and arrived the next day. Also the product seems good quality and cools the room exceptionally well you can feel a difference in temperature within minutes. The compressor when it kicks in and runs which is quite often is quite loud but acceptable just for the pleasure of having a cool room.
Essential for some situations like mine. Summer 2020 meant the upstairs of my house was often 30C + at night and not wanting a repeat I ordered this unit.
Come June 2021 and the first spell of hot weather (25C yesterday) I used this device and within 1 hour my room had dropped from 23C to 18C. The room is much more breathable and cool, however if turned off the room does heat back up quickly (not the machines fault obviously).
Important to note the window kit this unit comes with does not fit most British windows so I’ve used Ply to create a window seal and cut out a hole for the exhaust hose to go through.
Overall this machine is excellent, lots of features and does cool a reasonably large (25sqm) room noticeably within 30 minutes to 1 hour depending on the temp.
It is noisy but I turned the TV up to 24 where I usually have it on about 21 or so… not a huge deal.
This unit feels solid, well made and is fairly quiet compared to my older unit. The remote control lights up, which is great if like me you have the aircon on just before you fall asleep on a sleep timer.
The hoses have really nice attachment fittings and you can tell that this is a quality unit, I’m delighted.
We found it unsuitable for our needs and was able to return with out any fuss. Very nice people to deal with.
My first thoughts upon arriving – heavy! I live alone and I’m not very strong so required the assistance of a family member to help me lug this up the stairs, but we did it, so that’s something to bear in mind when buying this.
It’s a very good looking unit, I’ve seen some pretty unattractive flimsy looking ones on the market. This will remain in my bedroom so most people won’t see it but it looks great to me and the plastic casing is high quality like most white good appliances around the home.
I do love the flap at the top of the unit that opens when turned on and closes when turned off. Some might find that gimmicky but I love it!
Because we’re still in April I can’t write a proper review on its cooling abilities yet however I have tried the cooling function and wow it’s an Arctic blast! The noise is not bad at all BUT I’m used to sleeping with a white noise machine on so it should not bother me. If you love to sleep in the quiet then I doubt you’ll want one of these.
The fan function (which will most likely be used more often) is brilliant. I haven’t been able to test the heat pump yet (will wait until wintertime) and the dehumidifier function should come in handy especially for preventing mold build up in the house and clothes drying.
The remote control works well out of the box. I doubt the supplied batteries will last long. It isn’t the most aesthetically pleasing remote but why should it have to be? As long as it works!
I shall endeavour to update this review in the autumn after I’ve been able to use this unit for its intended purpose but so far I’m very pleased with it.
I bought this item purely to use for air conditioning when it gets hot in the Summer, so I can’t give Stars for sleep mode or warmth as I haven’t tried that. I have turned the unit on to make sure it’s working ok and it was fine, it’s not noisy no more than having a fan running and I could feel the cool air as soon as I tried it out, so I’m pleased with that. The unit is nicely styled so it also looks pretty sleek. It’s a good solid unit and it is heavy, but as it’s on wheels and I’m all on one level that isn’t a problem for me. I’m now looking forward to a cool apartment in the summer.
Excellent product, a lot quieter than my old one. Should be able to sleep without problem.
Also excellent customer service when a part was damaged in transit. Inventor replaced the part within a day! Very impressed.
Pros:
Does what it says on the tin
Cools well
Has wheels
Comes with a healthy amount of accessories
Uses less Watts when cooling than stated in the specs (1068w recorded) (1350w specs)
Only uses 50w when just the fan is active.
Can heat as well as cool (technically all AC units can do this but most of them don’t enable this function)
Comes with a 2 yr warranty
One-day delivery.
Cons:
Strange smell/orange looking marks on packaging when first opened
One of the ugliest remote controls ever
No adapter to use your own exhaust hose (e.g. an insulated hose)
Difficult to position the louver blade
Not much of a difference between the fan speed modes.
Short power cable that’s not removable
Fan speeds up when the compressor turns on adding more noise
Notes:
Should be an option to select which window seal you need when ordering, as most people in the UK don’t have sliding windows and can’t use the provided sliding window seal.
I wouldn’t call it quiet by any means but then again I’ve never used or had a portable AC before so I have nothing to compare it to. (it’s about the same noise level as a boiling kettle when the compressor is on)
The ‘Sleep Mode’ doesn’t make the unit quieter it just delays the compressor from coming on for longer
The unit is a lot wider than you think, especially once you’ve attached the hose.
There’s a ‘model B’ AC unit shown in your manual with two hoses (extract and intake) – Why isn’t this product available? I would’ve purchased this model instead if I could’ve.
It’s very quiet for such a high power AC unit cools the room down very quickly and as a heater it works very well I particularly like the automatic heat setting adjustment set your desired room te.perature and it automatically heats or cools the room to the desired temperature
Bought this unit last year after researching many other makes, found this to be the best featured in price range,
you havn’t got to pay silly money for cold air, most units are of similar noise levels which for most people is not a problem. Lost my remote control, when contacting company for price and availability they sent me one express delivery FOC as part of their customer care strategy, i was gobsmacked, so glad i bought this super unit.
Well made, looks and feels quality. Good cooling capabilities, at a good noise level too. Probably one of the best 12,000 BTU AC’s you can get. One slight issue, is that when the AC is venting hot air out the pipe, their seems to be some sort of rattling issue, but it isn’t a major problem, just a bit annoying.
I use this everyday for my temporary work from home office. Had a little problem with it and the support team were amazing! Inventor support sorted my issue the same day and sent a replacement within a few days.
Delivery was prompt. But arrived with a small problem. Contacted the service team who resolved the issue quickly.
Extra kit required to vent the hose through window, not great via a vertical outward opening window though.
To be efficient at cooling you will need to run in dehumidifier mode otherwise it will take days to reduce the temperature with the high temps. Obtained this year, it took 10 hours to cool our south facing bedroom and only by 4 degrees. but utilising the dehumidifier performance improved. Should’ve been included in the instructions.
Excellent. Really cools down a large room and not too noisy. Though it is a little on the heavy side so you probably wouldn’t want to move it around too much. Lots of features inc remote control.
Haven’t used heat mode but tried it and it works well… But I bought it for cool mode and it’s excellent .. cools my room down ( 5M x 5 M ) in about 10 minutes if you set it on lowest setting 17 within 30 minutes it’s to cold.. set it on 20 perfect .. very quiet. Worth every penny
I am no expert in AC units and purchased this at the end of summer for next yr as summers are getting warmer. The build quality is excellent and the thermostatic control is very good In the bedroom And noise level not too bad comparing in bedroom ACs on holiday. The heat pump heater is an unexpected bonus. It consumes 1 kw electricity and gives nearly 3kw in heat!, a no brainer for the conservatory as I have solar energy. Free heating and cooling! May purchase another one next year.
Customer service is amazing and Valentinos is very helpful. I ordered some additional external exhaust plumbing, they charged me a pittance and it turned up in less than two days from Athens!
Subsequently in October 2021 I squashed the exhaust hose and requested from Demitris a replacement on the Friday afternoon, on Tuesday, today, I was told to expect the replacement tomorrow. I cannot believe the guy who rubbished their service.
I cannot recommend them more highly.
I checked the measurements before buying but it was still a bit of a shock how large the unit is, though it’s stylish and easy to use. It’s also very noisy on cooling mode, and I’m not totally sure how the sleep function works since it’s just as noisy as normal mode. The fan only mode is relatively quiet and pretty effective.
Other than the sound, it works incredibly well. The main rooms we use it in are around 5m x 6m and during the heatwave, it cooled each room down to a nice, cool temperature after around 15mins.
After 45mins and 34 degrees C outside, it had cooled the room to about 20 degrees C.
I didn’t use the window kit since we have awning style windows and not sliding ones, but it worked fine with the hose hanging out of the window and the curtain closed around the hose. I’m sure the times I mentioned would be much better if we had a proper seal around the window.
This air con also dehumidifies very quickly, I made the mistake of forgetting to attach the water hose the first time and there was a puddle on the floor after a few minutes. You need something to catch the water while it’s on cooling mode.
I haven’t tried the heating mode yet, but will do so once the weather is colder.
Overall, I’m very happy with this unit, it’s a shame about the noise while cooling, but it works so quickly that it’s not too much of an issue.
I bought this for home office and bedroom use, it works really well in cooling and fan modes. We use the cooling mode to bring the temperature down, then switch to fan mode which is quieter for sleeping. I rated the noise level as 4 because although it is a lot quieter than many portable AC units, there is still quite a difference in cooling mode compared to fan mode, primarily because of the compressor. That being said we still have no trouble working or sleeping with it in cooling mode. I can’t comment on how good it is in heat pump or de-humidifying modes because I haven’t really used those modes yet. One small improvement I would suggest is making the text on the remote control larger, it is difficult to see if you don’t have great close-up vision. I would recommend this unit because it is well designed, looks very modern whilst being unobtrusive and is very effective a cooling a large room. I have to comment on the great customer service from the after sales team too. I needed a new wall exhaust adapter because we were moving home and it’s not something you can take with you. Thank goodness we ordered this. What a difference it makes. We have it in our bedroom and at the moment put it on 1hr before we go to sleep, close all the doors and it is really effective at cooking the room. The only thing we had to buy was a soft window sealer so the pipe could go out. The one in the box didn’t fit our standard UK house windows. We don’t find it too noisy and as it’s a white noise it may help sleep anyway. It can be dropped to 17’c which at the moment is perfect. It is a heavy bit of kit and took two & a lot of lugging to get it up the stairs.
Great product and great service, had an issue with delivery, not the sellers fault however they promptly sorted the issue out for us and had it delivered to us the next day Before lunch time. Not used all the features yet but the air con works brilliantly
We are using the cooler programme at the moment and it’s great, only complaint is it’s a little noisy but think most of these air conditioners are. We are very cool and would not be without at this time.
his has to be the best air con i have had yet this comes with all the bits you need and thats good as my other air con did not come with all the parts i needed and it was not as good as this air con. It cooled the room to 20C in no time i do not get how this save energy and works well i will get this ac again or get a ac from the same make as its not let me down the remote is well good and lets me do all i want with a touch of a button can not ask for any more.
for the first time i can say i am cold in the summer XD
The product is well built, does a good job on cooling but i found it very noisy. I expected a level of noise but to be honest on all levels was pretty much the same. Customer service with this company is one of the best i have experienced. Great communication.
Works out of the box no problem. All these units are fairly noisy when the compressor kicks in but it is bearable for the coolness. They only supply a window kit for vertical sash type windows. For the others you need to buy or make your own shield to stop the warm air blowing straight back in. It is also a big air hose (6″ not 4″ like smaller units.
Only shows the set temp not the actual, but that’s not normally a problem.
Not tried the reverse A/C heating and doubt I will – You need to drain the water off the same as in dehumidifier mode and there seems little point.
Remote control is good for when you’r e in bed and just want to turn it off.
The unit has a superb build quality and is more than powerfull enough to get the job done. Noise level is good for this type of unit, you will definitely notice when the compressor kicks in but it is still remarkable how quiet it is compared to some.
The customer service with this company is second to none.
Buy with complete confidence.
I took a considerable amount of time researching portable air con units and eventually chose these and I am so so glad that I did! I’ve never had one before and was pleasantly surprised by how effective they are. I live in a 3 storey town house and mine and my daughter’s bedrooms are on the 3rd floor. There is also an airing cupboard on this floor where our water gets heated so it gets incredibly hot
These units are absolutely brilliant at cooling things down upstairs and I could not have done without them when it was really hot last week. We literally sat in the bedroom with the dog so he could be more comfortable too. I have just ordered a 3rd unit for my living room because I know that it is going to be really hot again this week. I was looking in the morning, was too slow and by the evening they were out of stock. I was lucky I emailed the seller to ask when they would have them in stock again and they advised me to check at 4pm because they were getting more stock. I checked around 3.40 and immediately made another purchase!lol I know some people comment about noise from air con units, but to be honest I sleep with a fan and like the background noise. I also use ear plugs anyway so it dampens it out a bit. I personally don’t think they are excessively noisy, but u can’t expect these machines to do such a great job cooling u down and make no noise. My 5 year old hasn’t complained about the noise at night. It has made such a positive difference having them and don’t know how I’ve managed 4 years in my current house without them!
The units came with a window kit, but I already knew that these were not going to be suitable so I ordered the Hoomee universal window kit and the seller was very generous and refunded me the cost of these.
Today I drained the units and there was only a little bit of water to be fair, but good to do this once a week so that you don’t end up with stale smelling water coming through it. I also removed the filters and this was very easy to do and I got all of the dust off of them. These really are easy to look after and I’m sure if I continue to look after them they will serve me well.
I have one in my daughter’s room which is a single size bedroom and it literally takes minutes to cool down. Mine is a double size and the same can be said for this. I literally have nothing bad to say about these units I really love them and I’m looking forward to receiving our 3rd one today or tomorrow for the living room.
The customer service has been brilliant too. Ive always had prompt replies from the seller and I even received a telephone call from them and spoke to a lovely guy called Valentinos in Greece. So helpful 5 *****
The btu is decent with these units at 12000. I really wouldn’t hesitate in recommending these to anyone. Stay away from the more expensive brands that have lower btu, these are superb and really give u a chilled atmosphere and quickly too. I don’t think that i will get quite the same chilliness in my living room as its like a greenhouse with 6 windows and 4 glass doors. Its also more open planned and has 2 stairways in the middle of the room so not able to say shut a door like the ones in the bedrooms, but i don’t doubt it will still cool things down and make it a bit more comfortable for everyone including our dog.
The window kits aren’t bad either to be honest, but I will hopefully be getting my bedroom one vented through the wall at some point.
If you are thinking about getting one of these stop thinking and just buy it, u will not be disappointed!
When its a really hot day and the sun is melting everything and everyone on planet earth . This air conditioning system will be keeping me cool .
Its saved me from over heating so many times seriously even on a cold day my body generates heat like torch from fantastic four movie……well I’m just being silly but you get my point.
I love it big time…..(can make alot of noise sometimes in my opinion, nothing major and very small issue)
Bottom line…… I will never sell this thing or give it away ever….I love it..
I decided to buy some sort of air conditioning because me and my partner we are both working from home and if it’s hot you can’t be very productive.
This unit it’s amazing. It arrived quickly and it was very well packed. It’s heavy, but that is not necessarily a bad thing in general. Quality stuff are heavier.
Noise wise it’s not that bad, I think I could sleep with the unit on, but we never needed.
The window adapter it’s for vertical window, so it’s almost useless.
I used for a while with a window seal from a textile material attached with a velcro. It worked but it wasn’t very efficient.
Today it was 35 degrees outside and I knew that I need to find a better way of sealing the window. With a bit of diy I created an air tight panel to seal the window and the temperature inside the room was kept around 20 degrees with the door wide open. I live in a 2 bedroom house, and in the other bedroom the temperature was around 2 degrees higher.
Very first aircon unit I ‘ve ever purchased and couldn’t be more happy with it. Great unit, nice and elegant design. Regarding noise level, I probably wouldn’t leave it on in the bedroom over night as I am a light sleeper, but other than that it’s a great buy. Absolute saviour during hot weather!
Works very well, reducing 29 to 23 degrees and maintaining it. My only complaint would be that the remote has small black text against a dark background making remote control button choice tricky.
Unfortunately, all attempts to activate warranty via the manufactureres website have failed, but hopefully this will not be required!
Fantastic so far! My wife suffers from heat intolerance but this has been just great for her. Easy to install, user friendly and cools the room pretty quickly. It’s not sound free but you get used to it and it’s not as noisey as coolers.
Definately Recommend it!
The family were laughing at me when I first ordered this, but we had a hot week in May and suddenly everyone wanted to be in the living room with this on. I researched many models before buying this one due it value for money, features and the fact it would look good in the house. I wish it was more quite, and its also too heavy to repeatedly take up and down the stairs… but both of these are not faulta of the product as the same will be true for any decent air conditioner. Overall very pleased with the purchase and now looking forward to summer!
Excellent as an A/C or heater, is keeping my upstairs a less humid cool space when we get hot days, also great as a heater, soon warms upstairs on cool nights.
Works well – cools the room down during the hot summer nights we’ve been having recently. It is relatively noisy but I’m able to sleep with it on! I like the remote option as well as the wheels on the bottom to move it from room to room.
Outstanding build quality. Great features and very quiet (compared to our other units in our home). Really very very impressed.
Cannot fault in the slightest– works quickly to cool a room and has lots of nice features too. Even the remote is soldly built– really truly one of the best purchases we’ve ever made, so much so we bought a second one!
So far so good. We live in a top floor flat with wooden floor in the living room and carpet in the bedroom. They are the two rooms we use the AC in. Very impressed with noise level, compared to our first AC. Room is cooled within 10 mins in the bedroom and 20 mins in the living room. This is the first week we have used it.
Excellent portable AC. Great value. Cooled the room instantly and lowered temperature to 18 deg C within 30 minutes. Window pack included. Easy to install.
Great air conditioner ‘Magic’ BTU 12000, good value for money at 325 compared to over products on the market around 700. It’s quiet during sleep mode and keeps two bedrooms very cool during these hot weather spells. I brought the ‘Chilly’ BTU 9000 last year, it’s so much more noisy compared to the ‘magic’ but the ‘chilly’ works well in the lounge/dinner. ‘Magic’ has more functions and is a quieter machine. ‘Chilly’ blasts out the cold air and does the job if you need your room cool this summer.
Lovely machine…an upgrade from my 10 year old air conditioner so was really impressed with how cool the room got in just a few minutes
Easy to setup, perfect for hot summer days and not as noisy as my last machine…but certainly not silent
Would recommend
This is an excellent air conditioner. Very strong. It’s not mentioned in the description but mentioned when it arrived on the box. The rating is 12000 BTU | 10000 BTU, which is still very strong.
I was hesitant to buy a portable air con because there are people going ‘OMG SO NOISY IT’S LIKE A TRACTOR GOING THROUGH MY HOME’. It’s not. It’s not silent either. It’s as noisy as a portable air conditioner would be, maybe less.
You can hear it of course when the compressor kicks in, but even then with fan on high you can hold a conversation, it’s just comfortable levels of noise. Nothing crazy.
Sleep is quieter, but I don’t really think sleeping with it on would be doable for a light sleeper. I can sleep with it on, because I’m a heavy sleeper.
It doesn’t feel cheaply made and comes with a remote which is SO neat.
It’s more than worth it.
Great product, its my first portable ac unit and it does the trick in this warm humid weather. the window kit is only use if you have a horizontal window that open vertically. I had to buy another kit for 20 quid to fix into my bay window.
A portable air con is always a compromise that offers more flexibility than a fixed unit.
It is clearly less noisy than previous models of the same type but it it still noisier than a fixed unit.
Make sure to use the provided hose that may appear to be short but it suitable for most windows. I have used third party solutions before with my previous air con in the belief that the extra length was required and ended up with a worse solution because the air flow was reduced. The instructions manual will always propose a fixed installation that is never realistic as this would imply drilling a huge hole through your walls, then you are better off fitting a fixed model and you would not damage your property. I definitely recommend this unit that is cheaper than the Electrolux model I bought 3 years ago that is identical and still works perfectly well.
Highly recommended if you cannot or do not want a fixed air con.
The aircon unit itself is very good though I have yet to use other functions like heating and dehumidifier.
I recently purchased this air con to replace one bought in 2018 from the same company.
Inventor clearly know what they are doing when it comes to air conditioning and appliances in general as I did lots of research before buying my first one and then when getting this one Inventor still came on top after weighing the pros and cons.
My old inventor aircon was the 8000btu one which is pretty small and compact but did the job for the last 2 years during hot weather.
The reason I upgraded to this one was that although the 8000btu was good in smaller rooms, in my bedroom it was struggling to keep the temperature much cooler than outside without having it on 24/7 which was obviously causing high electric bills.
The Magic 12,000btu is definitely more suited to the size of my bedroom, if not perhaps too big now!
I can set it to 17 degrees and within an hour it will drop the temperature from 23oC to 17oC and then the compressor will turn off as its reached the set temperature and turns on again about an hour later just for short periods of maybe 15minutes to keep the temperature at 17C.
This is clearly more economical than leaving a 8000btu aircon running 24/7 and it not really getting to the set temperature.
This is why its very important to know the size room you have before ordering as buying an aircon with too low a BTU rating will mean having it on constantly and having one way too big for your room will mean it is forever on and off and this will cause the humidity in your room to stay too high which will cause more discomfort as high humidity means your body will struggle cooling down through sweat evaporation.
This aircon is rather large and compared to the 8000btu one I had before it is probably near on twice the size and double the weight but most aircons with a rating of 12000btu will be around this weight.
The noise level isn’t awful.
It’s certainly not quiet but unless you’re willing to spend upwards of 800 you arent going to get one much quieter.
On low fan speed or dehumidifier mode its definitely quiet enough to sleep.
I would say though to wait until this product drops in price or amazon are doing a deal as last week it was up at 459.99 and then the next day I looked it was 405.99 and amazon was doing a discount so I actually got it for 385
Which I think is amazing for a 12000btu unit!
I paid 305 for the 8000btu one for perspective and this one is a heater as well as an aircon!
It’s one of the better looking units in its price range and a well known name as well as coming with a 2 year warranty.
If you have any doubts of buying it I wouldnt as you wont be disappointed. Just make sure you get it when its at a discounted price if you rwally want value for money!
After a lot of thought and comparison between other models, I ordered this air conditioner. Having used much more expensive ones in the past, I can say that this one is just as good. It was very easy to set up and cools my 25sqm south facing room effectively, and is relatively quiet. However, the sleep mode doesn’t seem to make a very big difference to the noise level, and I can’t sleep with this turned on.
Ok recently I’ve been struggling with the hot weather and as I have Asthma the heat deff makes me suffer so I’ve been looking for an air conditioning unit for a very long time , lost the count of how many machines I’ve looked at anywhere from 300 up to 700 with me reading all the reviews so on I could never make my mind up so for a blind peace of luck I seen the 12,000 btu inventor magic I liked the look of the machine the reviews were amazing and the price only 355 for a machine with a 12,000 btu capacity I thought it was miss print so read some reviews looked at there website noticed they come with a 2 year guarantee I thought perfect I’ve finally found my machine . My next thought I’ll show my wife I seen it said they had 9 in stock so yes plenty of time to decide so shown my wife and literally in under 10 minutes they were down to last 3 my wife I best hurry up if I wanted one so quickly put one in my basket and paid and glad I did as few minutes later they had sold out and it’s still sold out so patiently waited for the delivery which took about a week and the delivery date was scheduled from the 29th May upto 2nd June on morning 29th I got a text your unit is coming today within a 2 hr slot I was so happy as the 29th was another hot day my bedroom.was as hot as the devils put and my dyson showing 32degrees on the digital screen. So at around 2.40pm my delivery pulled up and the driver just dumped it at the doorstep no smile or offer to bring it in but that wasnt going to dampen my impatience I wrestled this huge box into my house luckily my oldest son helped get the machine upstairs at 34kg it was too heavy for me specially as I have a back condition.
My wife rearranged the bedroom to get this unit in firstly it’s not small but even though it is a big lump it’s very pleasing on the eye very well designed and so many buttons on a digital setup. I must say the instructions are not the most clear as the window kit doesnt fit opening casement windows so let’s get that out there you will need a universal window kit but that’s not an issue so having worked out how the adapters fit as there are 2 you wont need unless the hose is going through a wall where mine isn’t also there is some tubing to help you drain the machine but that is more if you are using the heating mode or dehumidifier mode I wasnt all I wanted was a unit to blow out cold air from a refrigerant that’s all I wanted so then I unreal the hose wedge it out of my window as a temporary fix until my window kit arrives and then i turned the machine on. First thing i noticed it’s so quiet even on high speed its deff quite than the air conditioning units u find in hotel rooms so that’s a deff plus then having the remote control to hand i reduced the temperature down to 17 degrees so listened to the fan working and within a few seconds the refrigerator comes to alive like an animal been released from its capture not overly loud just a nice purring sound on the top of the machine when it’s on the top cover opens automatically which is a really nice touch and looks very sleek you can also press a button called swing which just makes the opening to open and close slightly anyway back to the unit by then maybe a few short seconds ice cold air comes out of the unit which was amazing super cold just like being in a chiller so as my bedroom was so hot remember I said 32 degrees so I let the unit do its thing and then I just observed watching the temperature gauge plummet maybe within 30 minutes the temperature had reduced down to 25 degrees and within the next hr It reduced down to 19 degrees so now my bedroom was as cold as a freezer with the window having a huge gap due to me not having the right window kit attached I do think this played a part of the temperature not coming down further but even so my bedroom was super cold maybe too cold lol I decided well my wife did to increase the temperature to 23 degrees and we both had the best sleep instead of not being able to sleep cause of the heat so were super happy inventor and this machine is super great and wish I bought one super so my advice would be when they come back instock just buy one dont hesitate like I did as this unit will help you sleep better through the hot days it can dehumidifier the air and even in the winter it can heat the room so its multifunctional as well. My only advice to the manufacturer is improve your instructions and make it clear the window kit dont fit casement windows that’s it.
I sat on the fence for a while about whether to buy this or not. After all, its a big investment. I can honestly say that im really happy i did go with this one! to begin with i actually contacted the company who makes them via their website to ask a few questions, and they were really helpful. I ordered that night and it arrived within two days!! very impressed. its a bit smaller than my old machine which is a plus, and SO much quieter! I cant comment on the window fitting for the hose to go out the window, as ours connects to a vent that goes straight outside, but i can tell you that it gets instantly cool and keeps a fair sized room at a comfortable temp. a couple of other things to note…. the remote glows in the dark (huge bonus). you can also turn off the light display on the machine. if you’re like my husband who has to have the room in total darkness to be able to sleep, then this is a small but amazing touch to have on it. We have not tried the heat setting on it yet (for obvious reasons), but im confident it will be great. Also, another thing that really sold this to us, was that it is A rated for energy saving AND uses “R290 gas” that is much much more healthier for the environment. And last but not least, it has 2 years warranty with it, which for us, sealed the deal. Highly recommended!
Very effective air conditioner which is quickly able to cool down our ~15m2 south-facing bedroom. Bought because of the R290 refrigerant which does seem to be more environmentally friendly than other gases. It’s not quiet when running at full pelt, but we’ve adjusted quickly and can sleep with it on. The exhaust hose is also big and unsightly but already the cooling power overcomes any concerns with that!
Had to return the first unit due to delivery company damage. Contacted Inventor customer service who arranged collection and delivery of a replacement unit very quickly. The new unit was in excellent condition and am very impressed with the build quality, on par with popular brand names which are 100+ more.
Very powerful and noisy when on full power which is expected, but blows very cold. Normal and sleep modes noise level are tolerable,no more than standing fan. I have used my chimney for the extraction which allows the lounge to get very cool. It is a very large and heavy unit so ensure you have storage on the same floor for intended use as it is almost 40kg, but the wheels work fine to move the lump around.
This portable unit is an ideal alternative to a split unit and inventor seem to be a well established customer focused company.
History:
I bought this to replace my old B&Q unit vintage ~2003. My expectations were it would sound no louder than the old one. Well I’m very pleased to report it’s much quieter and doesn’t have a harsh clunk as the compressor kicks in. In fact all the functions are nicely delayed and softened to reduce the jarring transition.
Cooling:
left on auto for the minute whilst it cools my (south facing) office down. It took 15 minutes to get from too hot to work in to “brr it’s a bit chilly in here”. very much looking forward to getting a good night’s sleep once I move this beasty into the bedroom later.
Physical Design:
very nice white shiny ABS plastic used on the unit and the remote. Controls are clearly laid out and there’s nothing confusing about the whole thing especially if you’ve owned a “portable” unit before.
Seems well designed and very solid. (it’s a very heavy unit) .
TL:DR
Well worth the price and considerably less expensive than most for the reputed cooling ability and features.
I was hesitant to buy but I’m glad I did, it is a great product, nothing different than expensive models other than the big savings. Noise, like any other, but has lots of great features found on other much more expensive models. Able to move it around easily, the programming and remote are wonderful. So far is very good, I will update if necessary. From my point of view, this is a highly recommended portable ac.
Purchased 3 portable air conditioner over the years This has been made to high standards. Very well made and effective, even the remote control lights up (attention to detail) . The top swishes open and shut . Yes I’m surprised by the quality and thought gone into this well engineered product , absolutely 5 stars
Brilliant. Setup was easy. From unboxing to cooling the room was no more than 30 minutes. It would have been less, but I had to trim slide B of the window fitting. The instructions were clear and mostly very good. My only criticism is that the pictures of the components are not very big, so it’s hard to identify some of them.
It’s very effective at cooling the room. I could feel a difference within a couple of minutes.
The unit does make some noise, but it’s not excessive. I had it on during conference calls and had no trouble hearing or being heard.
My only warning would be that it’s heavy and unwieldy. The wheels and hand grips make it easy to move around on one floor, but if you’re planning on moving it between floors, you might want to go for something lighter.
Great machine considering price. I use it to cool down upstairs of my house especially now during lockdown. Very efficient on energy consumption and need 15 minutes to drop down temperature from 25 to 20 in 20 square meters room. Producer says that noise level is on average 54 dB. Well my make 64 dB. Overall I’m a happy customer.
Love this air conditioner. Purchased after lots of research and not disappointed window kit makes setting up a breeze slots right into my sash window! Easily manouverable on castors and amazingly cool blast when tested to ensure it was working. Bring on summer I cannot wait to enjoy this bad boy!!
Needed this due to a bungalow getting impossibly warm in summer – inside temperatures constantly well over 30 degrees. Unpacked but not tried it yet. Reasonably well-protected but lots of air around the item in the box – not protection. But top and bottom are okay. Should be better packed though. Looking at many other A/C units I chose this on the strength of reviews and power output. Also checked the manufacturer website for more information – it is a pretty good site.
It’s a multi purpose machine – not just A/C (dehumidifier/heater etc.). So good value for money, but just be sure what sort of unit you want/need. The A/C output of this is much better than many, so again be sure what you really need but there is no harm going higher as this gives a reserve. The unit is quite heavy, but stable, and smartly designed with no sharp corners or edges. The fitting kit is fairly comprehensive – surprisingly heavy gauge – but not supplied for hinged windows. Hinge window kits of various qualities/types are available on Amazon and e-bay – and not expensive – so hunt around for what you need. But all the fittings are fiddly so you may choose to just stick the hose out the door or window gap. There are exhaust hose extender kits out there too, but a bit more care would be required for sourcing those. The hose is quite hard plastic which is compressed, so that you pull to extend it – notch by notch.
A good feature is the air coming from the top so that in a confined area (it must be placed by a window or patio door for the hot exhaust) the flow isn’t impeded by a sofa or a bed. Just poking around the unit and looking at the plastics etc. – it all seems very robust, well screwed together and strong, which should help with holding back rattles and vibration. You can buy cheaper units (just make sure they are real A/C units) and much more expensive ones of course. So far this looks good.
