Very quiet and efficient. Doesn’t disturb sleep. Remote control comes in handy. Marvellous. Only complaint is the adjustable stand – as others have noted, it is a bit flimsy and drops in height too easily with the slightest nudge.
Bought this fan for my mam. She absolutely loves it as her flat is very very warm. This fan blows really cool air. Just wish I had bought it I the summer for her. Her friends think its a fantastic fan and the 4 of them bought one each.
Great fan which actually does exactly what is claimed. It’s quiet, it’s efficient, it uses very low power and most importantly…it cools a fairly large room in no time. Would recommend this product and supplier.
Over the years i’ve spent fortunes on cheaper fans that don’t really do the job, make too much noise and don’t last long. Decided to try paying more for a quality item and that’s what I got.
Best fan I’ve ever owned.
I was amazed how quite this fan is. I’ve only used it on number one mod and it does the job very well.
Pricey but worth the money in comparison to other fans I’ve had.
Very powerful fan on the higher settings, it works well and has been a game changer during the hot spells, I use the lowest setting for sleep and it doesn’t disturb me. The only negative for me is the size, its massive but its forgiven as it does such a good job of keeping us cool. A worthwhile buy.
This is a very well-built fan with a good design. It’s very quiet on the low speed settings (you can easily use it while sleeping). The remote is a nice feature. It’s rather expensive but worth it.
A good fan with useful remote control and sleep function. Most importantly provides very quiet but reasonable air flow on the bottom 3 speed settings. It is bulky and rather ugly though. Recommended if you need a quiet fan to provide some air flow while you get off to sleep.
Really happy with this product. Good number of fan speeds and is a good compact design. Temperature readout is handy but it’s a shame it’s always on, in low light setting it can be distracting. Only issue I’ve found is the usb adaptor gets a bit warm for my liking.
This is a great fan that is so quiet in operation that the television is still perfectly clear to hear unlike other fans we have had. It has many options and looks and feels of a very high quality.
I have used this fan to replace my Dyson! It seems to be much more efficient and has a wider spread. It is quiet, so ideal for the bedroom. I wish I had seen it earlier – I would have saved a lot of money
Bought this after using one recently in a Hotel while away.
Really impressed with how quiet these are, it quieter at lower speeds but even at higher speeds (6 and above) it’s pretty quiet compared to our older fan.
Also like the oscillation options (side to side, up and down or a combination of both.
Don’t really use the different modes as we prefer just to have the fan speed at our own settings.
Certainly recommend this produc
I am so glad I brought this fan, my previous Beldray desk fan always kept me up and wouldn’t keep me cool and also it didn’t have a remote.
This Meaco one is perfect! It oscillates, has 12 different fan speeds, has a magnetic remote that I can attach to my bed frame and extra bonus it is silent! I can sleep easily with it on and not be disturbed.
I highly recommend this fan! I also brought the pedestal one for the front room and it’s equally as brilliant.
First saw this fan on a shopping channel but the delivery time was about a week was pleased to find it on Amazon with a 2 day delivery it was actually delivered within 24 hours which was great it arrived well packaged looks very sturdy and well made we have it on eco mode all night its so quiet and absolutely fabulous I thought it was a bit pricey but it’s worth every penny it’s easy to move around the house would recommend this fa
I dont usually write reviews but I’m blown away… jokes aside, I’m super picky when it comes to buying new things, I live by “buy nice or buy twice” and i cannot fault the 1056 when it comes to value for money. Quiet, efficient, can’t fault it.
Some people have reported a noise coming from it at low speeds but I haven’t experienced this so I can only assume its a rare defect. Overall for 100 it stands its ground against the likes of Dyson for air and sound quality.
I’m so pleased with my fan.
I have it next to my bed.
I’m actually quite a hot body but this keeps me just perfect.
It has a remote control, so easy to control.
Brilliant, especially in this hot weather.
Seriously I can’t tell you enough about this fan.
I’m so pleased I bought one.
A few months later and it’s the best thing. I love it working overnight so I can snuggle under my duvet. I sleep so well.
One feature I didn’t realise this had (and really like) was the room temperature displayed on the base, and on economy mode it will pick a fan speed according to the room temperature.
Very quiet, works well and I like the magnetic remote control that attaches to the front.
Was twice the size as I expected as the measurements were wrong, but can see this has now been corrected. Doesn’t matter though, I am happy with it.
So far, so good! As usual, we are asked to review too soon after our purchase.
First impressions, really good .
We bought the 1056 (desk fan) and 1056P (pedestal fan).
Both fans do an excellent job of cooling the rooms they’re in, and are quieter on their fullest setting 12 than the average 3-speed fan would be on setting 2.
The magnetic remote if a great idea, unfortunately the metal plate wasn’t glued on properly on the desk fan so it just came loose in the box, but we fixed it with our own glue.
The cable storage is also a great idea and the panel is simple to get off on the pedestal fan, but we can’t get it off on the desk fan without using screwdrivers to ply it off.
The pedestal fan does only extend to about 3 feet but that’s all it needs; the only criticism I have is that it doesn’t lock into place when you extend the height. Any contact with the fan will push it back down.
All in all they are great fans with some rough edges that you might need to deal with if you don’t want to shell out for Dyson or actual air-con.
I had my doubts, but its legit very quite while also packing a punch.
Looks smart, works really well, super quiet and loads of functions. We bought 3! Just need a hot summer to make the most of this great fa
Expensive compared to other fans but doses the job better than four of the cheaper fans.
Like other people have said though the only thing that let’s it down slightly is the remote. Be good if it glowed in the dark maybe,
Would definitely recommend i
My mams a light sleeper and needed a fan for the night time , she says after trying many other fans that this one is the best . Recommending very highly
It runs quiet and ideal for the larger bedroom. Smaller versions of the fan are available and also excelle
I bought the bigger fan last year for my lounge and that is fantastic, so bought the smaller one for bedroom, love that you get a remote controller with it so no getting up in the night to turn it off.
Overall the fan is brilliant, it’s super powerful with 12 separate speeds. It has a number of modes and the oscillating is fantastic. It’s also super quiet, on the lower settings you really cannot hear it.
The remote, while a little bit of an odd shape for a remote certainly does the job and the fan itself is well made and feels sturdy.
However, the fan has 2 major design flaws for me. First off, it is no where near tall enough. Even with it fully extended the head of the fan only reached 2 thirds up my old standard fan. I’ve had to place it on a stand to raise it up further.
And the second flaw, and I do feel this one is just not well thought out at all. The infrared receiver for the remote is on the bottom front of the fan. Which means you HAVE to have line of sight to the bottom of the fan to even use the remote.
It’s a massive flaw and makes no sense. They could have easily place the receiver on the neck of the fan had bypassed this issue altogether.
After all that though, as long as you are aware of these issues, I do recommend the fan. Maybe wait for it to drop in price a little if you can or take a splurge.
Great little fan, with 2 very big issues.
Just the best fan ever . You won’t go wrong buying this.
Purchased this, like many others, during the heat wave this summer. It’s a good quality, quiet fan with low power usage. It’s a fair size, so worth taking a look at one in a shop before you purchase.
Takes up a fair bit of room but I use it on level1 at night, easily powerful enough and quie
Possibly the best fan I’ve ever had. So so quiet, and cools the room down brilliantly. Sad that I spent almost 3 times as much on a Dyson, which has now been relegated to the loft for this fa
Having a lung condition and getting short of breath even when just sitting means I use a fan to keep the air moving all year round. I have had several fans and this is the quietist I have ever had. It’s brilliant. So much so that I intend to get the 1056P (pedestal model) when I can afford it. Brilliant!
Loved this fan but had to send it back as there was a clicking clucking sound when it rotated.
Very quiet fan at any speed given the air speed, but especially quiet at lower speeds. Very good for bedroom to run overnight when it is warm but not enough to justify portable a/c unit.
There’s nothing to dislike about this product. It saved us from the discomfort of our recent heatwave. It freshens the air, cools the air, is almost silent, easy to use with its clever remote, is very versatile, and over all a fantastic, economic, efficient, and neat fan. It’s great to find a product that doesn’t disappoint. It a big cool Yes from me. I am it’s No1 fan!
Was it supposed to have a remote control with it because I didn’t receive one with mine. Other than that it’s perfec
I bought this fan after reading the reviews, it’s extremely quiet my old fan was noisy and not very effective, this fan seems to blow a large amount of air and it’s really cool air and that’s on its lowest setting, there are 12 settings overall, after 5 it’s like being in a wind tunnel, also it comes with a handy remote so you don’t need to get out of bed to change settings my only complaint the power lead is very short so I use a small extension lead.
One of the best fans I’ve ever used. Super-quiet at the low settings, not too disruptive at the higher ones. Imparts a decent breeze on a sticky day and really does cool down a room. Used it in a hospital room and it was ideal. Magnetised remote at the centre of the device is inspired. Can also be operated by touch on the base plate.
This fan is amazing
I have a Dyson fan the BP01 pure cool me purifier, which I thought was brilliant, but I needed another for our spare room and couldn’t really afford the price tag for a spare room, so I went for this one after reading reviews, this fan is a third of the price so I thought I’d give it a go.
Its so so good and actually so much more powerful than the Dyson but so quiet! It set gets a bit louder in the really high settings but still way more quiet than my Dyson even on the highest no 12 setting, I really recommend it.
My only negative is its not quite as seller sleek to look at as the Dyson, but I can live with that for the performance.
This fan is super quiet making sleeping in the heat much easier. The isolation of up and down as well as side to side works at efficiently cooling a room down.
Eco mode is a great feature. The temp detected in the fans area will determine the speed on the fan which is great for sleeping.
Well made and top quality product. Couldn’t recommend more.
Bought this for the summer heatwaves after visiting someone who had the tabletop version. Moves a massive amount of air around the room and is whisper quiet, and not even too loud on the highest fan settings.
Bought this to replace a “gym fan” style device I had during the last hot spell, and this shifts more air to more places at a fraction of the noise level.
No complaints, it does its job perfectly.
Good fan which not only oscillates side to side but up and down as well. Can move curtains from across the room with its power. Controls can be a little complex but not too much. Also a little on the large side. Suitable for a bedroom if you have the space to fit it onto a table or chest of drawers. Highly recommended
We have three of these. Tempted to buy a premium well know and much more expensive fan, we did some research and this came out tops. We bought one and were very impressed. It’s easy to control – loving the remote – and it is incredibly quiet. It moves the air around very effectively. You can have it on several modes for speed, oscillation and static, as well as eco mode and you can pre-set it to come on at set times. We were so impressed we bought two more, which cost us much less than just one of that well known brand!
This fan has been an absolute godsend during the recent hot weather. Our 3 dogs have really struggled at night so we set this on low, which is really quiet, so it blew cool air across their beds. Worked a treat. It’s also helped me to dry plaster and paint in our recent kitchen fit out. Would recommend.
Its quite pricey, but you get what you pay for. Build quality is excellent. Easy to move with carry handle, very powerful but very quiet. Saved us doing great waves this summer. Remote control is good and the oscillation functions left / right and up/ down are good in a big room. Or you can have it fixed. The only thing that lets this fan down is that you cannot reduce the angle of oscillation. The range of oscillation is massive meaning that, although it’s great in a huge room, if you have the m fan on at night in bed for 2 people in a wide bed it takes ages for the breeze to get back to us as it spends ages blowing across the whole room, which is not where we are.
It would be better if there was a way to limit the angle of oscillation within a range starting at – say – 45 degrees, rather than only having the option of left/right or up/down (or a combo of both). If it had this feature i don’t think you could find a better fan!
Comes assembled, easy to remove from box. Doesn’t shift as much air as a larger open frame fan but is much quieter and more flexible. Instructions are clear and the remote is sensibly laid out and easy to use, but it is a very cheap bubble type when one with proper buttons and possibly backlighting should be expected at this price. The way it attaches to the fan body with magnets is very useful. The fan controls can also be accessed through the base which has a thermometer and function display which can be switched off. As an air circulator the fan moves smoothly horizontally and/or vertically. Fan speed goes from a very quiet but still effective minimum to loud and shifting a lot of air. I find on an average warm night pointing the fan toward the ceiling on a 1 or 2 setting cools an average sized bedroom pleasantly without being so loud as to prevent sleep. In very strong heat it can’t achieve miracles as it is still only a fan. If you want coolness in very high temperatures you will need an air conditioner with substantially higher running costs and noise.
Expensive for a fan but you are paying for versatility and good quality and it is much cheaper and more effective than a Dyso
This is the second one we have bought. The first one has worked for a year without issues. Then my son needed something for his bedroom during this ridiculous heat that wasn’t too loud. We tried the cheaper versions. It seems that putting a motor, a battery, and a power button is beyond most manufacturers these days as three cheap options broke in a couple of weeks.
This one is incredibly quiet on settings up to 50%, which shifts enough air to sleep comfortably. The remote is a nice touch, and is magnetic so easy to snap to something close-to-hand. Highly recommended.
Even at low settings, this fan moves a good deal of air – first major plus.
Then – if you take the power up a little, you move really good air – and the noise is still good enough to sleep or watch TV to.
Feels like a big fan – rather than a little fan that strains to move any real volume of air.
This fan became our go-to bedroom and TV room fan. The remote control is a nice touch – magnetically attaching to the fan centre.
The horizontal and vertical oscillation are useful – mainly the horizontal – and it easily cooled quite a large room if placed well and set up right.
A little dearer than some similar looking fans but far superior performance.
So far, it has stayed quiet and works now as it did 6 weeks or so ago.
I have bought fans that are advertised as quiet , this one is.
If you just want a gentle breeze, even at level 1, the fan is sufficient to keep you cool and at only a few feet away, you can hardly hear it.
We have not had this fan long, but We are delighted with it. It is exactly what we were after and it has the added advantage of looking good.
If you are undecided due. to the price. I would say that to us, it has been well worth i
While expensive, it is a very well-made piece of equipment and a cut above your average fan. It is very quiet and even on low settings you can feel the air flow from a long distance away.
This combined with the horizontal and vertical oscillation makes it very effective at cooling a room.
The remote control is an added bonus. It is slightly annoying to use because it is circular but functions well.
Absolutely brilliant.
Extremely quite even on level 4.
Easy to sleep through and the sound is unobtrusive.
It can easily draw down the temperature of a large room.
Very sturdy and good value for the money. It is far far superior to a normal desk fan.
It’s been a god send this year especially and so pleased I invested in one.
Remote controlled too.
I can only advise that although 100+ for a fan is lot it really is worth the extra cost. British design as well.
Definitely recommend it.
Prefer this way more than the much more expensive Dyson. Take a look at the YouTube reviews. If you are unsure about spending 105 on a fan, take the risk. You won’t regret it.
Please be aware of a scam seller. They are called SUPERDEALS4USUK. They are advertising the product at 95. They then don’t send it, but instruct Evri (hermes), who send a message saying they are expecting the package. They never receive it. You then receive a scam text from someone pretending to be Evri with a link to pay an additional 1.45 with a link to a website that looks like the Evri site, requesting credit card details. This was reported to Amazon and Evri who are investigating.
Make sure the order is being fulfilled by Amazon (on behalf of a seller).
I came back to Meaco, even though the fan is a lot more expensive than the smaller USB fans. A few colleagues bought the Smart Devil fans during the recent heat-wave. They’re great for the price, but very loud if you want decent airflow.
This fan is much quieter based on actual output of air, compared to almost any other fan I’ve tried.
As a note, their customer service is fantastic. The fan arrived with a small defect and the CS team resolved the problem within a few days.
I’d recommend spending the extra to buy this fan for your desk. If you want something bigger for the room, get the 1056. The 1056 is actually much quieter and better for airflow than the Dyson Pure, albeit the Pure is also a filter.
This is a brilliant fan. Virtually silent on the lower settings. During the current heatwave it has been on level 3 or 4 out of 12 at night and you can hardly hear it at all, while still receiving a perfect and very welcome cooling breeze. At higher levels it does make some noise, but you wouldn’t want that much airflow at night anyway. The 12 setting is extremely powerful and easily kept a church hall cool. The oscillation (up and down and also side to side) is smooth and silent. The removeable remote control feature is useful, but it does not have a light so you need to turn the bedside light on to operate it (no big deal, but an illuminated remote would be even better). Quite a lot of money but worth every penny IMO. Have just ordered two more Meaco fans of a smaller size.
I bought this fan just in time for the July 2022 heatwave. My work from home office is the hottest room in the house and without it I would have really struggled and had to periodically go downstairs to avoid overheating.
This fan as a number of great practical features such as the eco mode and timer, and I also like how the remote magnetically attaches to the front do you won’t lose it.
A great product which I’m happy to recommend.
1056 model. Genuinely impressed. Good airflow even at the lowest speed settings, and at those settings very quiet indeed. The oscillating action makes no noticeable noise either. More noise when you crank up the speed but only to be expected. The lights on the display can easily be switched off so it’s not lighting up your bedroom. If I’m to be exceedingly picky; the circular remote control may be visually more interesting than your average remote, but it doesn’t lend itself to finding the right button to press in the pitch dark, something more sensibly tactile would have been better. But I’m still giving this 5 stars, well pleased on first impressions.
A really good powerful fan that really cools the air down. Used this in my classroom during 40C heatwave and it made a huge difference. Compared to our old standard fan it’s worlds apart; definitely worth the money! I’m a very light sleeper and can sleep with the fan on speed 4 or below which is unheard of, I can’t usually sleep with a fan on at all. The only bad thing is the loud beep when changing settings, but other than that it’s great!
This fan is AMAZING.
Love the ease of use with the remote control. No having to get up to change it or start/stop it oscillating.
SO quiet in low settings and can’t imagine when I would setting level 12 so powerful.
This was brilliant when I had to go into hospital, it has been brilliant every night since with hot flushes and as you can set a timer, you don’t wake up cold in night needing to get up and turn it off.
HIGHLY recommend.
Oh – but it is a much bigger fan than the pics on Amazon suggest. It’s about 3.5 baked beans cans high (see my pic for reference)
I was a bit surprised at how big this fan was when it arrived. Despite this it is an excellent fan. I have only needed to use it at night to keep my bedroom a bit more comfortable in warm weather. It has quite a number of fan speeds and also a very handy Eco mode. I haven’t bothered with the remote control as the controls on the fan base are easier to see in the dark rather than fiddling around with a remote. The fact that this fan can oscillate up and down as well as side to side is great. I kept it static pointing up towards the ceiling as I found that way made the room more comfortable. I found the noise of the fan very unobtrusive even at higher speeds, although noise doesn’t stop me getting to sleep so perhaps I’m not the best person to opine about noise. All in all I would definitely recommend this fan.
Like some other reviews stated, this is not silent! It’s not excessively loud either, but it’s a fan, it’s going to make some noise – however, the lower the speed, the quieter it is. There are 12 speed settings, obviously the warmer it is, the faster the fan speed should be. I have noticed that speeds 1-7 are fairly quiet, anything above that, and it honestly doesn’t sound any different to a standard fan. The remote is a good idea, magnetised so it can sit in the centre of the fan casing. However, I don’t think it will take long for the buttons on the remote to puncture (each button is like a raised thin plastic dome), so a few months use might be all it takes with this to destroy it’s functionality and for it to look skanky!
The overall movement of it oscillating in all directions, is super smooth, I haven’t noticed any unusual rattles/clicks etc, hopefully it will stay that way.
Although Meaco pride themselves on this fan being ‘Super Quiet’ – if you expect that this is going to be the case, then you may be disappointed, but if you set the expectation that at higher speeds this is going to make a bit of noise, then you won’t be. Although personally, I think this is slightly overpriced, I am still pleased and it looks so much better than the other standard fans out there.
This fan is really good, my brother has a dyson fan in his room and it feels on par with it. The only difficulty is that it start doing a random tick noise when it was rotating sideways, which i realised was coming from the wire charging the fan getting hit from it. My reccomendation to prevent it is to have the cable plug into a socket that is below it. Otherwise really silent when it below level seven, easy to fall asleep with it on.
I can easily sleep with this on speed 2 or 3. The automatic up/down side-to-side motion is great too. The eco mode sets the speed based on the room temp, but at the moment the 30c room temperature makes the fan run a bit fast, so more noise. A start/stop timer, and the remote control makes this a real good item.
Update: The fan has proved itself during this current heatwave. Being able to set a timer to stop a few hours after going to bed was a boon, but eventually I just let it run all night on setting 2 or 3 as it was so quiet. The only gripe I have is that the remote control is temperamental at any distance other than a few feet. Still worth every penny in my opinion – even the cat is not afraid of it on low settings…
I bought this fan based off of several reviews found in articles & to begin with I was very impressed. The fan is very very quiet & with it oscillating in more directions it really spreads cool air around well. It has been great for temperatures less than 30 but the past couple days with this heatwave have been unbearable & unfortunately it has only been pushing warm air around. Another negative would be that when you use the buttons to change speed etc the beep is very loud & there doesn’t seem to be a way to adjust that. For really hot temperatures you’re better off getting an ac unit if I’m being honest but it is good for when it’s not quite as hot!
I bought this on recommendation of a friend and now have 3 of them.
Yes – they are not cheap.
They really move the air around. The eco mode – where it automatically increases the fan speed as the temperature rises – is excellent.
I don’t find the “up and down” oscillation that useful as it spends most of the time pointing at the ceiling.
It is a very quiet fan – especially on the lower settings. I have bought so called quiet fans before and found them too noisy for the bedroom – this one really is almost silent on the lower settings.
Love this fan! When I heard the heat wave was coming I started researching into which fan I would buy. This fan came 2nd on many lists (second to dyson, but the dyson was far too expensive – seeming I’m only going to be using a fan for about 4 weeks on the year) I can see why. It’s brilliant! I don’t mind pay the 100 price tag for it, seeming it’ll hopefully last a life time. It actually cools the entire room down (when set to oscillate and horizontal) instead of just basting you.
Really great fan and looking into buying anothe
I bought this a while ago and held off writing a review so I could properly test it. I’ve ordered fans before that have said they were quieter and sent them back so I was dubious about the claims of this item. No such problem with this one though as it is definitely quieter than any of the others I have come across. On speed one you can barely hear it. On higher speeds you can make it out but it is still fairly quiet and my other half says he doesn’t mind it as it blocks out the early morning traffic. It oscilates left/right and up/down. You can put both on or one of them. It has a sturdy handle to move it around and whilst it is quite bulky it feels substantial. It has a timer on so it can turn itself off. And let me tell you, in this stifling heat, it is a lifesaver! The price is good for the quality as you can pay a lot more. Definitely recommended.
The noise levels are extremely low, still completely audible but not like having a jet turbine in the room like a lot of fans. Very easy to sleep with this on if you are a light sleeper in summer.
My only (very) minor gripe is that the digital fan speed setting is sequential. There are 12 speeds, if you are on say setting number 7 and want to turn it down to 3, you have to press the button 8 times to cycle back round ie. 7 up to 12, then back round to 1 and up to 3. Annoying, could they not have just had an ‘up/down’ pair of buttons for that price?
Given the above, and the VERY high price I feel it’s fair to knock a star off and give it a 4 out of 5.
My only extremely minor quibbles: that the display light stays on by default. Super easy to switch off, but I’d rather it faded out automatically after a minute or so, save that bit of energy.
As the remote is circular, it’s very tricky in the dark to work out where the thing is pointing, and which button you’re pressing. Just a couple of tactile guides on the buttons would be very useful.
However, I got it for my elderly mam who spends a lot of time in her conservatory, which gets hot.
This fan could circulate the air in the whole room, as it oscillates 3D (not 360 degrees as i previously wrote lol) and can go to turbo speeds.
But it’s a hammer to crack a nut for her. She just wants in on minimum speed pointing straight at her. The feature she was after is the remote control. This works well for her.
So I may get the smaller model for mam and have this for me in the lounge. I work from there too, as an online Psychotherapist. So the fact that it is so quiet is a bonus.
A great fan. Treat yourself!
have used it in bed as well, with it about 3 yards away. i set it to 3 on one particularly warm night, 3 is still quiet honestly. above 6 is when i’d say it becomes a bit more distracting than nice white noise, but above 6 is so powerful i don’t know why you’d ever need it up so high!
the ONLY downside to this fan that i will mention, if you have it set to 2 and you want to turn it down to 1.. there is only one button to change speed. so you have to cycle all the way up to 12 then it goes back to 1. it is an annoyance. it is easy to overshoot and end up on 2 again. another button to go backwards would’ve been a perfect 5 star rating. but that annoyance is really enough to drop it to 4 for me. i change between 1 and 2 a lot 🙁
i see a lot of people mentioning no remote. it is true, there is no remote. but i don’t care, it sits in front of me, its a desk fan. get a standing fan if you want a remote lol.
i like the style of this fan, and it was relatively well recommended. it cools the room down quickly, but it makes a little bit of noise. if the noise gets unbearable, i’ll update this review.
the remote control is fairly easy to operate. it comes with one lithium battery, but the controls on the base are ok for operation, apart from when you want to reduce the speed or make the fan oscillate. evenso, i think the controls on the fan should have been the same as on the remote control, incase the battery runs out.
a bit expensive but it will be worth the money in the long run if it keeps working ok.
– The fan IS quiet compared to other fans, but definitely not silent. This fan still disturbs my sleep, just perhaps less than other fans might.
– The fan IS powerful, but I’ve definitely wanted it more powerful to fill a room as it can still struggle to reach sometimes.
It is important to take in mind that although there are much more expensive fans out there, the Meaco fan IS still expensive, and has some frustrating design elements which I wouldn’t expect for this price. For example:
– The fan does not oscillate down, at all. I know this is probably to keep the form factor down but it is very frustrating. Without it aiming down, you have to get a perfectly-heighted platform for it if you want to use it in bed, which I, understandably, don’t have.
– The remote is circular, meaning its very difficult to control in the dark as you can’t tell which side is up. Yes theres some raised buttons but why make it harder than it has to be?
– The IR receiver oscillates with the whole fan so you have to wait until it spins back towards you before the controller works again.
– The IR sender/receiver is weak. Weaker than all of my TV remotes. If you are pointing the remote slightly above the fan at night, it won’t work.
– There’s a great function on the controller which allows the light on the fan to be turned off, but why isn’t this on the fan itself as well?
– There’s a beep whenever you press a setting on the fan. This is fine if you’re all awake, but I use mine in bed, and my partner is not a heavy sleeper, so it isn’t convenient.
All this being said, it is a good fan and I would recommend it, but it’s good to know the negatives before you buy.
This fan really is quiet. Obviously when it’s on the max setting of 12 you can hear some noise but that is more the sound of the movement of air rather than the motor itself and it’s still much quieter than normal fans. You don’t hear much noise at all up to about level 4 so you can easily sleep with it on. It pushes a lot of air around the room. It loses half a star for the fact the remote is round and it’s not always clear which direction you’re pointing the IR emitter especially in the dark at night and the base of the fan where the sensor is swivels when using it in oscillation mode so you have to wait a few seconds so it swivels back to facing you in direct line so you the IR signal from the remote can be seen by the sensor. And when you press the buttons on the base or the remote it bleeps on each button press. The bleeps are not as loud as I think some people make out but they are noticeable and I would have preferred if they gave the option to silence them like you have the option to turn off the button lights that are on the base. But overall this is the best fan I’ve ever bought. Was so impressed we bought a second one so we can have one upstairs and one downstairs. British design. It’s easy to remove the back for cleaning the rotors. Just undo the two screws at the back and then press in the lugs to release the back. Just make sure it’s not plugged in while you do this for safety reasons. I would definitely recommend this fa
Despite the details saying so I didn’t realise it had a night light, which you turn on by holding the only button down for a short while. Because you have to turn it onto speeds 1, 2, 3, 4 and then off, I was hoping a long press would just stop it but it turned a light on instead – pleasant additional surprise for me. Having to cycle the fan speeds to turn off isn’t particularly annoying for me, but if I was using this as a bedside table then the noise at the top level might disturb other sleepers when used – it’s kind od like revving an engine for a second while you turn it off – you cannot rapid fire 4 presses of the button, you must wait a short while between presses or they do not register – might be worth noting for light sleeping parters or kids.
Other than that, I love it, it will be used in my office and also on camping/beach/picnic trips
I’ll start by saying that this fan is almost perfect.
I was surprised at how quiet this fan operated. We have ours sitting near the TV in the living room and it’s almost inaudible at the lowest settings. That’s without the TV being switched on. With the TV switched on, the fan only really starts to get more noticeable at the higher settings. This has been absolutely fine for us as the air flow this fan produces, even at the lower speeds, is very effective in cooling you down. The only worry i’ve had is that, in the last year of having this fan, we recently noticed a slight whirring noise when using the vertical and horizontal oscillation together. After a week, the whirring stopped without intervention though it’s now on my radar and something i’ll need to keep an eye (ear?) on.
Speaking of the oscillation, the movement of this fan is very smooth and I quite like the vertical oscillation option. However, nothing beats just focusing the airflow directly at your face!
You can control the fan from either the base or the remote – all the functions are on both. The controls on the base are led lit and these dim a short while after any interaction (either via the remote or directly on the base). A nice touch if you’re planning on using this fan in the bedroom. We don’t really move ours though, on the odd occasion where we’ve been moving furniture, the fan has a handle which makes it easy to carry around.
About the remote (I did say this fan is “almost” perfect)… The remote magnetically attaches to the front of the fan which is handy if, like me, you’re the type that constantly loses remotes. It’s a neat circular remote but very flat and i have lost it behind the sofa a couple of times. The real bugbear i have with the remote is that it really needs a direct line of sight with the infrared receiver on the base unit. So much so that, most of the time, i have to wait for the fan to oscillate in my direction before i can get the remote to work. People outside must look in and think i’m having a private rap battle given how much i’m waving my arms getting the remote to work.
The above point about the remote is really the only negative point i have. As i said, the whirring noise sorted itself out after about a week and, as much as this fan deserves 5 stars, being unable to use the remote easily is the only reason (as it’s annoying enough) to drop it one star. I do hope Meaco sorts out this issue but, in all honesty, you’d be hard pressed to find something better without spending considerably more and, even then, i don’t think i’d want to trade it in. All in all, a great fan.
The thing is, this is a fairly quiet fan, so I’m not sure why the manufacturer feels the need to exaggerate the performance as they do. It is certainly much quieter than the cheap tower fan it replaced. The obvious comparison is the Dyson fan range and in my personal experience, for absolute lowest noise level the Dyson wins, BUT, this Meaco pushes a lot more air for the amount of noise produced. This subjectively shifts as much air on speed 3-4 (of 12) as the Dyson on full blast (which is much, much louder of course)
Recommended? – yes, but temper your expectations on the sound level. It is quiet for the performance, but not silent or “practically inaudible” as some people claim; that is hyperbole.
Note: I also own the 360 model. Sound level is similar to the 1056 but a higher pitch which I find more distracting despite being slightly quieter. On that basis I’d recommend going for 1056 or 650 models.
Is it worth the asking price I asked myself before purchasing? Well I can honestly say it is.
Ultra quiet up to around setting 7, I’d say anything above setting 9 is the noise level of a “regular” cheaper unit. As the flow is efficiently directed, even on the lowest setting I can feel it from around 6ft away.
The oscillation is basically inaudible!
I’ve bought my fair share of cheap fans, especially those awful budget tower fans, NEVER again.
That said, and… WOW… Just WOW! The fan knows the room temp and on ECO will increase the fan speed depending on the temperature in the room if that feature works for you. And there’s a timer … so if you want it to go off in the night, it will.
It oscillates up and down or side to side OR both.
You can turn off the light for uninterrupted sleeping.
It’s silent. Completely silent.
Most importantly, I don’t think I’ve ever felt a cooler fan.
THIS FAN IS SO GOOD THAT PEOPLE PROFITEERED OFF OF IT WHEN THE MANUFACTURER RAN OUT DURING THE HEATWAVE LAST SUMMER. And I’ve just posted a reminder to Facebook friends that it’s in stock and to check it out. I don’t normally recommend products on Facebook.
Edit: I’ve used it for two summers now and it works as well as the first day I got it.
The unit is a little larger than I expected. It’s a very sleek and slick design with touch sensitive controls on the base . That’s a nice touch as it does away with ugly buttons. Construction is all plastic so you certainly don’t want to drop this or it will crack
The claims made about it being whisper quiet are true. It’s more powerful than most pedestal fans I’ve owned but so quiet you wouldn’t notice it’s there
As for cooling ability – second to none. On testing this I noticed a drop in temperature of the room within about 5 minutes and it was significantly cooler after 20 mins . Make sure to keep the door shut for efficiency.
I would recommend this to anyone. Another superb product from meaco
On setting 1 it’s extremely quiet and is pretty much inaudible from a distance of around 2 metres (the distance from my bed to the fan). However, unlike with other fans I’ve used in the past, on this low setting the airflow is still really noticeable at this distance and is more than enough to keep you cool in bed.
On setting 12 the fan noise increases to around the same as a normal fan on a low speed. It’s still quiet enough that you won’t need to turn the tv volume up but now the airflow is really powerful. The fact that the airflow is more focused than with a normal fan helps a lot as it will easily reach someone on the far side of the room. Because of this, you can position the fan much further away from you than normal so having a remote control to go with it is far more useful than I initially thought it would be.
All in all it’s a great fan. It performs very favorably when compared with my friend’s Dyson fan in every respect (better in many ways) and for less than half the price of the Dyson you really can’t go wrong.
