Pretty incredible, but it actually works. Rather than using the RGB codes to bring to a paint store, use the closest match function, in which it suggests a color from every different manufacturer, considering the person before you most likely picked out a named color originally. Match was dead-on.

Before I bought the nix3 I watched an excellent review video on YouTube, and read some Amazon reviews, which were very helpful. The postage was so fast, and the device is incredible. I’m choosing colours for a new build, and I imagine this gadget will come in very handy.

Matches alot of colors spot on.. not great on textures but that’s not what I wanted it for..
Pulls up perfect PMS matches so far.. all in all, for the money, it’s good!

Try it on color swatches – paper samples in the paint store. It identifies them in most cases correctly.
I tried it on two walls and it worked nicely – I think imprecision comes from when the paint is mixed, not from the color measurement by the meter. I think the meter works fine.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI am repainting the interiors of my home and I tried a few others in the same price range, but this one is the most accurate as far as color matching. It helps me with coordinating colors as well, and it finds matching colors from a wide variety of paint dealers. I just chose which ones I want to use, and it’s easy to change my options. It’s easy to save my searches too. Definitely the best one in its class. Its only drawback is it doesn’t include Pantone colors, but the ones that do require a subscription to fully access the Pantone library.

So easy to use and small enough to keep on hand no matter where I am. Color matched several painted items that I knew the exact product and the app pulled it up every time, along with many other similar and complementing colors as well. Love this!!

This is my 2nd Nix. The first I bought from the paint store and it worked great until I accidentally put it through the washing machine. Oy.

This one off Amazon is exactly the same, as stated, and works brilliantly. Great to have as a tool for a journeyman painter/decorator for color matches instead of taking a piece of the wall to get matched.

It works as advertised, it will give you 3 to 5 similar shades from the same brand, typically the right one is included in that group. Definitely helps narrow down the potential paints for touch ups. The only downside is that it doesn’t suggest a sheen.

In spite of all the 3 or few star reviews, the Nix Mini 2 has been a lifesaver for me. I’ve used it multiple times to match years old paint colors exactly from currently available Home Depot Behr paints. This has been for both interior as well as exterior projects and has proven invaluable for touch up requirements. Yes, $99 is expensive but it has paid dividends well in excess of its price. A great purchase!

This small device is used to colour match paint or fabric – and it is truly remarkable. I first started to use it, in order to repaint a few walls in our home. The paint has been on the walls for a few years, we like it, but it needs to be “refreshed”. This small device, allowed us in seconds to determine what the exact colour on the walls was. You can look through many different manufactures colours, in order to match what you need exactly. This device – with your smart phone – will not just record your scans, but will suggest other matching colours, colours that compliment or contrast.

The bottom line for this product is, you really have to see one in action. If you have a home and you paint fairly often, you will want this. If you help friends and neighbours paint, you could really use this. If you paint for a living, you probably already have this or it’s “big brother”. I think anyone who loves to decorate homes, paint furniture – or make birdhouses! – you could use this product.

Every once in a while, you come across something and you just go “Wow – that’s amazing!” Well, this is one of those to me. I had never heard of something like this, and it just knocked me over. Go find out more about this – you won’t regret it!

I rarely write reviews but this motivated me to as I am really impressed. We recently needed to touch up a room with a hand painted mural on the wall so repainting was not an option. Previous owner had left details of the paint colours but these didnt match at all. Having spent 20 on tester pots to try and match I gave this a try. Provided a dulux close match which in a ColourI had never heard of. Turned out to be a great match and you can now barely see the touch up. Recommended and may save you money, definitely time, in buying the wrong tester pots! Supports paints from main UK brands – Dulux, Johnson, Farrow and Ball, Little Green amongst others

This was quite a pleasant surprise. Was able to match the paint and thus get a small can for touch-up purposes only, thereby avoiding have to repaint the entire room (and save on paint) – and was able to confirm the detected choice from a really old and dried up can in the garage (one of several so had no idea what room it was used for). Showed our professional painter and he was also impressed.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThe company stands behind their product. Not only did they replace it. The replacement showed in two days at my door! That’s a five star review in my book. Hopefully this one will last longer than the first. New one charges and connects. Back to scanning accurate colors.

    Previous experience below—
Purchase Feb 2021. After a couple months of use won’t turn on, won’t connect, won’t wake, its dead. I don’t know if its the battery or bluetooth. Battery dies quickly before the review. I’d guess either the battery or unit is fried after 6 months and will not connect.

Maybe its got something to do with ios15, but I doubt it. Apps are up to date, left it plugged in overnight hoping to fully charge, resetting Bluetooth, the blue LED light is so faint barely visible while charging (even in the dark).

Also there is no status lights.

It used to work. 5 stars before, but it didn’t even last a year. Probably only really used it a dozen times to match paint samples. If Nix customer support replaces it, I will update my review. It is not an Amazon support issue. Nix should stand behind the product.

Moved into a house after we bought it, and there were holes and patches all over the place where large pictures and sculptures had been. Used this to match the Benjamin Moore paint, and it worked perfectly. The only thing I had to figure out was what kind of sheen it was (e.g., eggshell, etc.). The first couple of times, I showed the color information to a paint shop, and then I took the matched BM paint information to Ace Hardware. Worked great at both places.

Just bought it, just used it. It matched all my wall colours immediately. I used a mix of Farrow and Ball and other paints around the house and need to do some touch ups. It found all of them and matched them accurately. It doesn’t read the metallic Ralph Lauren paint from eons ago but that’s okay. I tried skin, textiles, wood, melamine, metal and had pretty accurate readings. Having the various colour codes helps as I work across different media. The only problem is that I wanted to go to the Nix website to look things up and it won’t let me. Every time I click on a link to try to use the Nix site it opens the Nix app automatically. This is making me nuts. Please do an update to stop this!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersMoved into a new house recently. The previous owners of course didn’t keep paint swatches or details so instead of cutting extra holes in each room I went for this. Tested on a few known colors first from my preferred vendor and it matched those spot on both from the wall and the known paint swatch itself. Moving to unknown wall colors I tested the same wall in different spots and results varied, but some colors are so close I went with the one that showed at the top of the list most often. Great success in matches so far. It doesn’t cover “sheen” so you’ll have to figure that out through guess work and testing, but it does get the color right.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersIt’s not a perfect device as it tends to give different readings each time with the Nix Paints app, but I decided to keep it because I have a home for which the original owner had painted multiple rooms. The Nix helps to indicate which walls and ceilings use the same paint colours so that I can keep track of which colours can be re-used around the house for touchups.

I use the regular method for paint matching, which is to cut a small strip from the wall and then use the spectrometer at the hardware store to get a correct colour match. I don’t rely on the Nix Paints app because it doesn’t give custom colour codes but rather a selection of branded colours that are not necessarily the same shade as what I want.

Battery life is not great, after a few scans it goes down to like a 90% charge, but I don’t really need to use it much anyway.

I am keeping this device just for the reason I specified in the first paragraph. It’s one of those things that is “good to have” in your box of tools.

The NIX app installed easily and was easy to obtain a paint sample. I used the paint match feature of NIX which provided 5 “Excellent Matches” and 10 “Good Matches” from differemt companies, including Behr, and Benjamin Moore. I went to Home Depot that has matching capability and decided on Behr. The two pictures show the painted area with the Bolt Head to the left I wanted to paint and the area I painted to the right – great match.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersTechnology has come a long way since companies first introduced these color scan devices! This handy little tool does a phenomenal job matching up paint colors, even does fabrics! The only thing is to make sure you get the right app to use the device. Nix has several on App Store. Make sure to download the “Nix Paint” app. The others give you values which don’t help as most vendors won’t recognize them. With the Nix Paint you can select up to 5 vendors or paint stores depending on where you are (I have a contract with Sherman Williams) and the matches coincide with those 5 brands and their labels. The product states good for 3000 scans on the mini before battery life fades. That should last me awhile. Very economical pricing!

We’re moving and it helps us match paints for touch ups. Also, I’m a product designer and I can identify a color quickly to order swatches or prepare samples.
This connects to your phone via Bluetooth. Press it against a surface and it will immediately report the RGB, Process or Web colors. Or, it will tell you the closest matches to popular brand paint colors. Very helpful.

This is wonderful tool to help match an unknown paint against know color swatches from 20 major paint manufacturers. This is better than working with color swatches or a shot in the dark – but it has issues.
Over the years we’ve repainted the rooms in our three story Victorian several times and kept track of every paint color except for two colors. That’s where the Nix comes in. Before testing any of our unknown wall colors we tested the Nix mini against 10 color swatch’s from the store. The Nix was 100% accurate and identified the color name and the manufacture right off the bat. The same was not true for the colors of our know colored walls. The Nix offers “Excellent” matches to a scan and “Good” matches. All of the known colors on our painted walls were “Good” matches to the paint color we used and none were “excellent.” And when it came to matching the grey in our bedroom, the Nix was terribly wrong100% of the time.
Excluding our grey bedroom where the Nix failed miserably, the difference between the scan and the name of the paint on our walls is noticeable. Thankfully the Nix allows for side by side comparison of their scan against suggested colors. The color imbalance on our walls maybe caused by human error, the sunlight effect, dust, the primer we used, number of coats applied, surface conditions, or different mixing machines. These might account for some of the subtle differences between the Nix scan and the named paint.
Our worst results were from our freshly painted “grey room.” The walls were dark primed and three top top coats of grinder grey made everything uniform. Our Nix was totally wrong time and time again and our color wasn’t listed.
With all our mixed results we are still very pleased. The side by side comparison feature is fantastic. No ability to save your scan for future use with the Mini 2. Great for a homeowner handyman around the house. If you’re a pro, you’ll need the pro model features.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersI am very impressed with the product. The product arrives in a compact package which includes a lanyard to attach the color sensor to, a small bag for storing the color sensor, and a standard micro-USB charging cable.

There is no on/off button on the sensor. The product must be used with one of Nix’s apps. You choose Nix Digital or Nix Paints, depending on whether you want digital color data or specific paint suggestions from the scanned surface. The Nix can only be paired to one app at a time, and it auto-powers off once the app it is paired to is closed.

I was interested in matching paint on my walls, so I used Nix Paint. Nix Paint had a useful tutorial and updated it’s paint database before initial use. After scanning a surface, you must choose one or more paint manufacturers in order to get specific product recommendations. I chose Behr, as I was shopping at Home Depot.

I walked to every area of my house with different paint and created a catalogue of all colors. The app conveniently let’s you store all requested paint matches to a projects/room name folder. Home Depot prepared me samples of three of the scanned paints I was hoping to match, and I painted small spots on the appropriate walls with the three samples then allowed them to dry. All three paints looked exactly like the paint I was hoping to match after drying. I would purchase again.

    Fantastic Produc

Nix Mini 2 was helpful in figuring out existing paint colors from the large pile of cans we were left with by a prior home owner. The Nix had about a 50% hit rate for identifying he color by scanning the wall. Others were in the top three colors. It has a harder time identifying whites as there are so many options that are so close together.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersAfter searching I found that this device was recommended for Benjamin Moore paints. I have an old house and the previous owner used Benjamin Moore paints exclusively. Despite a number of swatches and trips to the paint store I was unable to correctly identify the paints used in my house. However with this device (and accounting for fading), this device allowed me to identify ALL of the paints used in my house within a half hour!!!! I am very pleased with this – saved me loads of headache!

I often spent a half hour or more with paint color decks tying to decide on a match and it is never satisfying. Sometime I have to damage my project to get a large enough sample to carry down to the paint store for matching. With Nix, in just seconds, I can scan a color and it gives me paint suggestions in my favorite paint brand. Usually it gives me several choices, all of which are so good i feel that any of them wood work!

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersI need to touch up some areas on my walls and trying to avoid repainting everything. Despite the incessant tutting, huffing and puffing from various decorators, I’ve always used Farrow & Ball modern emulsion because it cleans like a dream, has a lovely subtle sheen and is incredibly hard-wearing.
However, none of this safeguards from natural fading and my inability to remember which shade I used in the hallway six years ago – none of the obvious choices did the trick. I bet my life it was Pointing but it turns out it’s Slipper Satin.

Having tried various combinations and being told by the specialist in the paint shop that using a cheap colour matching scanner was a waste of money (his cost 25k), after reading some of the reviews for the Nix mini, I was sceptical.

But…this little hexagon of magic sorcery nailed every colour. I put it through its paces by testing it on colours I know and every time, it was bang on.

When I first plugged it in, it needed to do a paint catalogue update which took a few minutes. When you set it up for the first time, it gives you various country/regional options – so for me this was Europe. It was a relief to see U.K. brands like Farrow & Ball (something else the guy at the paint shop said wouldn’t be available with non-professional colour scanners) and was fully expecting to have to colour-match with Dulux or another ‘trade’ paint.

So, I recommend this little device and I can see us having a long and happy friendship. It’s very small and dinky so I can also now discreetly scan colours I like in restaurants etc. without anyone noticing. A bonus result!

If set up and used correctly, I’m sure you won’t be disappointed with this device. For what it does, I can’t see what advantage the more expensive device can offer a non-professional/DIY decorator.

Recommended: Easy to use, accurate, up to date & well worth the money

It’s hard enough matching a paint color, but try doing it when you’re colorblind! I had a back hallway in the basement that needed some patching and I had no idea what the paint was. I used this gizmo and it found an “excellent” (its words) match and identified the Benjamin Moore paint I needed. I got a can of the paint and it’s a damned good match, even though the original brand was probably not Benjamin Moore. I decided to test it on a known color from Sherwin Williams and it matched it exactly. Definitely worth the $ and really easy to use.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI purchased the mini for an industrial application even though the purpose is more for household use. In order to use the mini, I had to validate the accuracy and precision to ensure it could be used as a quality pre-check.

I looked at the accuracy using known paint cards from Lowes, Valspar and Sherwin Williams. It is impressively dead-on and with the Nix Paints app (it also uses Nix Digital app) you can know with confidence the name of the paint, the paint product code, RGB color code and several other codes as well.

I then checked to see if the readings would change throughout time and in different environments. Again it was very consistent in its readings. It never differed more than one point on the RGB scale.

The only uncertainty I have, only because I didn’t run a test, is how it would perform on glossy finishes.

Readings are stored within the app so you don’t have to worry about writing down the results or forgetting the name of the paint. The app is very easy to use and self-explanatory.

I will be purchasing the PRO next because it has a bit more features and color scales that I need.

All in all I would recommend the mini for any household use.
