I purchased the keyboard for office work. My organization doesn’t allow employees to download software, so I selected this model because I can adjust the colors and brightness manually. I also like the sounds that the keys make as I type – pleasant-sounding soft clicks that won’t distract my fellow employees. The side light is a nice feature that compliments the rounded sides of the board, giving it a softer apperance than other mechanical keyboards.
Got this as part of my gaming setup.
As I stream a lot of my gameplay from various gaming consoles I wanted a gaming keyboard that not only looked good as part of my setup but one that worked well when I did stream the odd PC games.
This keyboard up to now has not disappointed.
The numerous lighting effects are brilliant and looks absolutely brilliant on my LED gaming mouse mat along side my LED gaming mouse in my setup.
For me I found it works great and responds really well and I’m more than happy with it.
At 62.99 at the time of this review I feel is a little overpriced but if you could get it on sale I would say don’t hesitate.
Overall love this gaming keyboard and it gets used daily and is very recommended if it was a little cheaper.
This review is being typed with the keyboard I just received. It’s got very bright RGB lighting, feels great. Definitely worth the price.
No issues with keys typing double or any of that nonsense. Works well!
Miles better than my el cheapo trust keyboard. Feels really solid and lovely to type on, theres a whole bunch of rgb which is very easy to control.
I was hesitant to purchase this product at first, as some reviews were negative, but I am very happy that I did. I needed a full-size keyboard with a number pad that was relatively small (in other words, not ridiculously large). I have zero complaints for this keyboard.
As far as the noise level, I got the brown option, and it is a perfect balance of pushback and sound.
Also, I bought this keyboard about 4 or 5 months ago and I have had zero issues with it.
I love this keyboard i customized it slightly adding new keycaps and o-rings. However there are some issues with it. Starting off as a big issue, the switches are very scratchy and pingy due to the springs and the tactile bump. the bump is nearly unnoticeable sometimes depending how fast you type. Next issue is that the rgb backlighting on the rim is nearly impossible to change with the software, you have to do a dance to get the rim to change static color. Another issue is the fact that you CANNOT use the flip up stands as they are so flimsy and will pop out of place almost every time you try. I bought two one a red linear and one a brown tactile, both had the same issues.
It is a softer, less springy brown switch compare to the genuine cherry Mx brown. But it is quieter, so I don’t mind the softer feel. And the colours are pretty
i needed a keyboard that i could replace the keycaps since my razer one wasn’t able to. i got the wrong switches but that’s on me i highly recommend this keyboard if you plan on getting pudding keycaps cause it looks amazing
Durability: Very durable, no problem typing
Comfort: Very comfortable, comfortable to type on
Difficulty of operation: The operation is simple, and the connection to the mac is very fast. just born for it
Appearance value: The appearance is quite satisfactory, neither ugly nor beautiful
Response speed: very fast, super fast.
A very textured keyboard, the sound of the blue switch is not too loud, it is just right for coding in the office, and the key strength is just right, the hand feel is soft, the RGB lights also make the keyboard very versatile, the 108-key layout is just right, and the dual-mode experience is also good
This is a very good, solid keyboard with appealing back-lit design and responsive mechanical keys. I like it.
1st, allow me to express my shame. I was the gamer that paid $250 for keyboards in the past. Well, that keyboard started pooping out on me, so I was in the market for a new one. Well, I have 2 mortgages now, 1 for the house and the other for the cost of gas and groceries, thanks to inflation. Someone recommended this keyboard for me (sorry to whoever you are, I forgot) and I cannot believe it. I had no idea I could get this quality of keyboard for $50. I type really fast and it keeps up with me. I love the sound of the keys and it has a good weight to it. The RGB on the base of the keyboard is a little obnoxious, but I’m ok with it. I’m glad I found this keyboard!
At the time of writing this review, the price for this RK918 keyboard is 62.99.
Royal Kludge has been making quality and affordable keyboard for the past few years, and I have purchased a TKL keyboard from them in the past and the build quality has been great! The metal backplate was going strong, so well the keyboard before I gave it to my brother in-law. The RK918 carried on with the same build quality, relatively light weight and solid. The double-injection keycaps are oil free and durable after several weeks of use.
The RGB capacity is one of the main selling points for this keyboard. The RGB light belt around the frame is great, never used a keyboard like this and I love it. In addition to the light belt, there are 18 RGB light modes can be chosen between, my favourite is the breathing light backlight mode.
The keyboard feet can elevate the keyboard up to 12deg, for my use it is enough height, to be honest, I would prefer the height adjustment to be a little bit less. The red switch functions as it should, not too clicky not too mushy.
Overall, a good quality and RGB “rich” mechanical keyboard for around 60.
The keyboard looks very nice didn’t expect to look so good , looks better in reality than online pictures . Is big enough but not very bulky , also the plastic and aluminum combination looks very elegant and the quality is premium, the light is a very nice touch especially in the night I also have the options for the light as u can keep it off during the daylight, me personally I like the rainbow colors looks so pretty and not very bright u can also adjust this , the installation was straightforward and works great with no issues, really pleased with this keyboard. Definitely recommend!!
So cool was looking for a rainbow light keyboard I got that and more
I absolutely love this keyboard!
Pro’s
Clean white (off-white) keyboard
RBG lights are bright enough yet are not overwhelming (brighter in dark rooms)
The keys are noticebly clickly, however, the brown switches (which my keyboard has) are more muted than blue switches which are very loud, and are more of a middle ground between the more clicky blue switches and the softer red switches – I would recommend watching some YT videos to determine which switches are best for you
The keyboard has an ergonomic design which is helpful in lifting the keyboard and for use when typing
Successfully Windows compatible (Windows 10 tested)
The keyboard has non slip feet and feels very secure
The side lamp is attractive and fun and is fully customisable
There are many options for changing the RBG lights and the instructions on how to do this are listed very clearly in the accompanying manual. I have attached a video above, however, I’m unsure whether it has loaded properly.
Con’s
No major cons from me. The keyboard is quite high, however, I have quickly gotten used to this and I also use a gel keyboard rest when typing for long periods which seems to relieve the wrists from being at an awkward angle for too long.
The ROYAL KLUDGE RK918 is a premium wired mechanical keyboard which is a fantastic keyboard for either gaming or general usage. It’s a well made and designed product and is built to last.
I’ve been using this keyboard for the last month and I’m very impressed. The build quality is superb, it has a surprisingly solid weight to it which helps to keep the keyboard static which is really useful when gaming. It has a solid plastic base and a brushed aluminium top plate. The keys give a satisfying click when pressed and are responsive and durable. The keyboard has 2 elevation levels, 8 and 12. both of which feel comfortable to use.
The keyboard comes with a multi language instruction manual which advises how to customize the various lighting setups. It’s a nice touch but not something I’ll be taking advantage of.
In summary I think this keyboard is priced fairly considering the build quality and customisation options. I’m using it for gaming mainly and it hasn’t let me down. I’d highly recommend it and will be using this as my main keyboard going forward.
So I was using a keyboard that cost me about 30 and it done its job. Felt a little cheap but it was my first keyboard. So when I seen this to try I jumped at it. This keyboard being double the price of my first one, just feels so much better made. It doest feel and sound cheap when pressing the keys. You can cycle through the different RGB modes, have the keys ripple effect etc. And what I really really love is the bottom of the keyboard lights up as well is not just under the keys. Looks amazing when the lights are dimmed and I’m playing games at night. This is well within most people’s budget I’d say and your getting a premium product for it. Worth the spend.
A royal kludge. What a name for a keyboard. But do not mind that. This is a proper old school kit for a serious gamer or writer.
I think that the old MacBook keyboards are the best. But this is just as good. Most modern keyboards almost do not have key travel at all and the the keys are too close to each other. This does not help if I am typing fast. Or trying to type fast 🙂 I also love the sound that keystrokes create. This keyboard just sounds so nice. Very old school and loud, like a proper keyboard. The keys are rounded and feel very nice to the touch.
The LED lights. There are so many of them. You can change the settings on how light behaves. The bottom af the keyboard can flash or resemble breathing. The keys too. My favourite setting is for a key to be lit for about a second after it is pressed. Feels like footsteps.
Maybe if the keyboard was wireless, it would be just perfect and look neater on my descktop.
So far I like the keyboard. The built quality is good. Colourful backlight and looks great. Key are soft to press and comfortable for typing. Due to the lights, look beautiful in the dark. It is great for gamers but could also be used for office work, though could be a bit noisy in the office environment.
It arrived well-packaged as shown in the attached photos.
The price is ok, but probably not the cheapest.
This is a seriously good typist’s keyboard. Anyone working all day on documents wants a well made keyboard without sponginess or bouncy feel. This feels like a traditional keyboard from way-back-when. Light looks cool and the manual allowing the effects to be programmed is clear, and not tiny! A superbly made keyboard great for all-day working.
This is a fantastic keyboard, it is so well built and feels great to type on. The lights look fantastic and it looks much more expensive than it is. The keys are very responsive with a great sound.
I got the white version of this keyboard and I’m very happy with it. It is a UK layout so there are no key issues and being a full size keyboard it means you get the number pad which I prefer having.
Connecting is very straightforward and as soon as I plugged it into my Windows PC USB port, it was picked up.
It looks great and from initial start up it has a very cool Tron-esque blue light. Of course you can also customise this backlighting into a myriad of colours and rhythms. The instructions do a good job of explaining which keys can change this, however I couldn’t easily revert back to the default Blue that I had the first time I powered it up. Whatever you choose, the lighting effects are really cool, helped by the fact they reflect of the silver keyboard top.
The keys all make a decent sounding “clack clack” as you type but it isn’t to overbearing so if using this for work or general life admin it won’t be too annoying to others around you.
This is a good looking, well manufactured keyboard that can be used for gaming or general home working/use.
This has been manufactured to a really excellent standard which is evident in terms of the high grade of materials and brilliant functionality.
The lighting options make it a really cool spectacle and there is loads of options to choose from. I really like the mode where all the keys are lit and you press one and that makes that area go dark and when you stop pressing it slowly lights up again. Like when you put pressure on skin and then release and the area fills back with blood. Very cool effect.
It’s got a good few modes to chose from.
The lights around the edge are high customisable too. The individual LEDs are hidden and diffused to create a flawless flow of lights with excellent effects.
The key’s work really well and are satisfyingly clunky which is ideal for gaming and I’ve also found typing text on it a really good experience.
I love the finish of it. The keys and the aluminium backing makes it look a lot more expensive than it is and offers a sturdy weight to it.
It really is plug and play with the customisation of the lights able to be changed using keyboard shortcuts. I haven’t used any software to change key use of anything like that.
Only negative is the box it came in. In my opinion doesn’t really do it any justice. It’s unimpressiev and underwhelming, especially if this would be presented as a gift.
Really like this keyboard. I am using on Mac and it works really well. Not too noisy and very quick to type on. Lights are bright but as background light so not too distracting.
I really like it and for the price fantastic value. Highly recommended
RK ROYAL KLUDGE RK918:
a full sized mechanical keyboard with outemu switches which comes in Brown , Red , Blue.
outemu and cherry MX switches are similar with the exception of actuation force
the red one that i was given to review are slightly heavier to actuate compared to cherry red mx
the keyboard is made up from two main components the bottom part of the keyboard being translucent yet plastic while the top part is made from thin aluminum.
in my testing i did notice some flexing.
i liked the feel its not quite premium however its fairly nice compared to another keyboard Ive been testing.
with the ergonomics of the keyboard i used the raised position and was happy while typing and gaming.
the keys are double shot injections which shouldn’t fade over time. the keys themselves are very sturdy, however i did noticed while gaming the squeaky keyboard sounds while pushing down keys quite fast.
the keyboard is full sized is fairly simple and minimalistic in design and the cable is recessed so the cables don’t get in the way on the desk.
the top of the keyboard has a few shortcut, some multimedia buttons as well and a few basic app functions
the RGB light are on the bottom of the keyboard as because the keyboard is clear to a degree the light shines through, you can either set this to a solid colour or to a rainbow type style effect.
for key effect you can use the FN key which can control the brightness, speed and lighting while the FN key + delete controls the key effects so the usual solid colours or a more animation style there something here for everyone to like.
by using the FN and backspace you can select the individual colours for a certain key this is what i personally used. you do have to cycle through the colour you want to select by press down the key multiple times for a certain colour.
and if you want to customize the colours further then you can do so by downloading there software and making changes through the application.
overall i liked the keyboard the effects where great the simplistic design was also nice, the ergonomic was spot on for me typing was nice to use for a prolong time, and while the plastic might feel cheap however after using this daily for a near month solid no sign of wear and the durability was high.
over thing for me to consider is the price which after having this for some time is that is slightly overpriced, if you have the money check it for yourself your be surprised.
for a more budget friendly i can advice RK ROYAL KLUDGE RK920 which is also full sized and mechanical.
This light up keyboard is excellent for gamers, it matches my daughters gaming computer beautifully with the rainbow lights. My daughter loves the quality of the keyboard and like that the keys are much quieter to others, this is perfect for love streaming as it avoids noisy keys. My daughter previously had a much more expensive gaming keyboard but much prefers this keyboard as it feels more comfortable and is quiet.
This keyboard is pretty good value for money at this price point. I got it mainly for the kids machine and they absolutely love the functionality of it and a variety of different lighting mods you can get. It seems pretty good quality with an aluminium finish and a plastic base. It does feel surprisingly heavy and sturdy and like I said for this price point does seem pretty good value. It comes with a traditional UK keyboard layout and you have the option of using legs if you wish it to be at a higher angle. The keys have a satisfying click and aren’t noisy at all. Overall very happy.
I’ve been using a fairly similar HP Pavilion 800 for about a year (which costs nearly 30 more) and my preference is the HP mainly because it has a detachable wrist rest. I haven’t been able to find a wrist rest for this RK918 from Royal Kludge.
While possibly not the cheapest against its peers, the RK918 does seem pretty good value. It’s quite the dazzler – more so than the HP when the RGB rainbow settings are set to the max for speed and brightness.
It is mechanical with Outemu Blue switches which are similar to the Cherry MX Red RGB switches on my HP800, they are linear-style switches and their travel path doesn’t have the bump used to provide tactile feedback. These switches don’t have to reset past that bump to register a repeat press, so gamers who need to rapidly double-tap or triple-tap keys will enjoy the edge in speed. I think I’ve got that right, anyway!
Definitely a good mech keyboard without blowing my mind but again the price is reasonable so a good balance between spec, looks and value. It hasn’t made me put the HP800 back in its box though. I’m not a gamer but my keyboards get a lot of heavy use and what gives me confidence in the HP is that it feels no different to new, exactly one year on. I should add that I bought it directly from HP for under sixty quid, so at a very similar price to what the RK918 costs today in April 2022 but in fairness the HP’s price seems to have gone up a lot over that time.
At around this price-point (fifty to sixty quid) the RK918 holds its own but its worth taking a look at alternatives such as the Huo Ji CQ84 (highest ranked just now), the Redragon K552 and the Punkston TK87.
Amazing keyboard. Love the rgb lights . Great sound when you press a key, great reaction time
Excellent quality keyboard. Looks fantastic in white and even better in the dark all lite up. You can change the colours to what ever you like. Well worth the price and well worth buying, this well also make a brilliant gift for a gamer.
First impression are very good, looks and feels very nice.
Unpacking the keyboard I was surprised just had nice the keyboard is, it looks very well made and I do think it looks better than the images.
The build is very good, the keys are raised slightly, which makes them easy to press, ideal for gaming, the keyboard is not as noisy as some, you hear each key being pressed, but not off putting.
The USB is study and the cable is good quality, no driver required worked straight away.
Connecting to the PC gave us a wow moment, the light show is great fun
The keyboard has been designed for the gamer, keyboard has the durability and tactile, mechanical keyboard feeling, ideal for high-intensity gaming.
This is a very impressive gamers keyboard, well made and does have that wow factor.
Royal Kludge are a comparatively new company who specialise in affordable mechanical gaming keyboards, and are well respected in the field.
This then, is a fully- customisable, full sized keyboard, which as well as the responsive and tactile keys has stand alone arrow keys, customisable macros, adjustable angle, an aluminium baseplate, and inevitably, of course, the fully-customisable RGB display. You even get a key changing tool for further fiddling about. There isn’t any extra software, but you do thankfully get a comprehensive instruction book.
It is a great keyboard either for gaming on a PC or console, or if you just want a really fancy mechanical keyboard. However, at 60 quid in the UK it is certainly going out of budget territory – In the US, for instance, it costs less than 2/3rds of that, and – entering the very competitive middle-range market, where it has a great deal of competition with products of a similar specification. It might pay to shop around a little.
I am a first time gamer. I seen this and thought it looked good.
I was actually really surprised with the weight of it. It’s a really good heavy weighted key board. Perfect for gaming it doesn’t move easily.
The keys are really nice to press, comes with a keyboard legged remover so you can clean or replace. It lights up so looks super amazing in the dark.
I am really impressed. Feels like such a good quality keyboard. I got it in black it’s a satin finish not glossy but not Matt. Excellent quality. Can’t wait to use it. Really good value for money. It is wired but the wire is long so that doesn’t matter to me.
This is a nice keyboard, with all the features* you’d expect of a sub-100 peripheral. It is mechanical with Outemu Blue switches from what I can find out about them. These perform similarly to MX Cherry Blues, pretty clicky and nice tactile feeback on key release. I’m personally a fan of brown switches, but the clicks are on the less irritating side.
Starting with it’s most prominent feature, the RGB, it is pretty stunning, and the deadspots between LEDs are not THAT noticeable on the underside. They are still there, but the plastic on the bottom side of the keyboard does a pretty good job of diffusing the light. You can set the lights to static, breathing, and streaming (rainbow) modes, or off. LED brighness can be adjusted, and you may want to use this as the brightest setting is very bright. You can also set a custom light mode via the keyboard controls which is a clunky process, but doable.
The build quality is pretty decent, not as bad as other sources have mentioned. The brushed aluminium top plate gives it a nice feel and makes it look more premium. The bottom is plastic, but pretty sturdy. I was not able to bend it and not surprised that TechSource hurt his leg when he tried to snap one of these over his knee (look it up). Keycaps don’t feel cheap and the switches are built just like anyother keyboard with Outemu switches. I did try to see if I could remove the switches, but other than move them a little, they wouldn’t come out.
In summary: it looks great, it feels good, It seems to fit into the 40-70 range of keyboards in the current market.
*Whilst software DID exist for this board, it is not on the official site anymore. Be careful however, there are a few links on the internet that don’t provide the promised software, but will provide malware that will brick your peripherals. I recommend sticking to the changing settings via the keyboard itself. Unfortunately, this does mean that I won’t be able to take advantage of creating macros.
Even my wife said this looks cool… and that’s saying something
I absolutely love this keyboard (it is UK Layout) – the keys are light to touch, ‘f’ and ‘j’ keys have the expected raised ‘-‘ and a big plus for me (as I sometime look at the keyboard while typing), is the font used on the keys… very clear.
Being mechanical, there is a nice click to the keys when pressed – quite a nice quiet (ish) click – compared to my other mechanical keyboard which is quite loud.
There is already an 8 degree raise on the keyboard base by design of the keyboard, but there are also the usual 2 small leg raises to raise the back of the keyboard up a bit more to 12 degrees.
The Function keys work well with their set default apps – F1 Windows Explorer, F2 Browser home, F3 Email, F4 Music player, F5 – F8 media controls, F9 Search – also dedicated speaker +, – and mute buttons above the num pad.
The key backlights AND bottom base LED colours can be changed with different very funky light effects, scrolling, key press, key press ripple, etc. Plus the brightness can be changed up & down as well as the speed of the light effects. There is also a ‘key extractor’ to pull off the keys and rearrange if required.
There are also 5 customisable sets that can be configured – these sets are manually set, there is no application to set custom colour sets.
Another plus I found was the manual – a good simple and readable 2 page manual.
Overall I found this keyboard excellent – good mechanical keys, light to touch to click, a good amount of RGB colourisation options, nice clear readable font on the keys and best of all … my wife thinks it looks cool.
At 62.99 (at the time of review), I feel this may be just a bit too expensive for a mechanical RGB keyboard that doesn’t have software customisation.
Would definitely recommend.
These aren’t the keycaps that came with the keyboard but so far everything has been amazing with it!
I was looking at the RK100, but I kinda needed a more familiar keyboard layout (100% keyboard, numpad and home-end keys) for programming as well as gaming.
The material is sturdy but also feels plasticy and hollow. Definitely 45 buck keyboard kinda feel.
You’re also gonna have to track down the RGB software for this thing.
However it has everything I need in a keyboard, it just doesn’t feel quite as satisfying to type on compared to my older Corsair K68 and even the Razer Ornata…
If you need a keyboard that just does its job with brown or red switches, and don’t care too much about how good the typing feel is, then this is the best in class as far as I know.
Super Bright RGB LEDs and the side glow is very bright as well.
I did notice a bit of pinging/hollowness when typing fast.
Typing position is a little higher than I am used to, but it is still very satisfying to type on.
Just the right amount of “click” for an office space (assuming you have a dedicated room)
This is a great keyboard for its price. It has a deeper clacky sound, at least on a wooden desk, and feels great to type on. I am a student in high school who does a lot of reports and coding so I use it a lot. I must say though, you have to buy a wrist rest as the RGB under the keyboard is really thick, and not a low profile one, a proper thick one. I do wish it was hot-swappable but it’s to be expected at this price range. The lighting is not exactly the best though as it doesn’t show up as the same color as the software. You have to play around a bit to get the color you actually want which is a little frustrating. I also wish it was easier to change the base lamp light to a custom color. The software also feels a bit… unique. Definitely not the best design but it works. Overall, great keyboard for typists and gamers who like the side lamp like I do, not so great for customizability.
Ill have to update this, if it falls apart or something. But out of the box I am highly impressed.
The caps are raised so dirt will not fall into the internals. The keyboard itself is heavy. It feels like a solid build. The design is gorgeous with the aluminum top. The caps feel consistent and very nice. The layout is just about perfect for me with a full number pad and roomy arrow keys. I think I might lube up the caps to get that extra level of quiet/smoothness but as is this thing is a unit. For $50 I am very satisfied.
I literally have no complaints. I would definitely recommend it to someone shopping this price range.
This has become my everyday keyboard. I love the way the keys feel, and the different light settings. I’ve been using it for a bit now and haven’t noticed anything feeling weird or glitching at all. The lights shine as well as the day I turned it on for the first time. The seller says the keys are interchangeable, but I have yet to try that out. I will try to remember to update my review if and when I do that.
I would say watch the TechSource video review on YouTube for this keyboard. It is the better one.
His review was overall negative, but what you have to remember is that he typically only reviews top of the line name-brand gaming keyboards though. So, yeah what do you expect?
The RGB lighting on this keyboard is insane. The build quality is clever, because even though the bottom is plastic and the top is brushed aluminum, you would think it would be vulnerable to bending, but it is not! The guy from TechSource could not bust it over his leg. Believe me, he tried. What’s funny, is he spends the video criticizing the build quality, but then He almost hurts himself trying to break it over his leg at the end of the video. You would think the PCB would break, but it did not. So….the build quality and durability is out of this world, so yeah. Buy this keyboard.
I purchased the black double shot PBT Pudding keycaps and going to lube the key triggers when my kit arrives to complete the mod. That’s about it. If you want to leave it at stock, it’s okay.
This is like getting a top of the line RGB keyboard gaming keyboard at a remarkable price.
I’m giving this a 5/5 stars.
I was really excited about this keyboard, it has a lot of led light settings and it works great but my word it is loud/clunky when pressing the keys.
It works great though.
after getting a keyboard named logitech that was bad i got this new keyboard and its perfect the light is very good the material is good !
Now that I’m working from home primarily, I wanted a mechanical keyboard to replace my old non-mechanical one at home. My old Logitech K520 keyboard was just not doing a good job keeping up with my typing. Often times I’d get capitalized letters due to it not releasing the shift key right when I was releasing it.
Another issue with that Logitech keyboard was that the Escape key was lower than the other keys on the keyboard, which made it a pain to hit. On my job, I primarily do software development in a linux environment, and that Escape key gets used a lot when editing code.
And lastly, the keys felt okay on my old Logitech keyboard, but didn’t have a lot of travel in them. That made it harder to get tactile feedback from them.
At work, I have a mechanical Das Keyboard 4 Professional for Mac with Brown switches. It’s considered one of the higher end mechanical keyboards, with a price to match. So that’s what I’ll use as a comparison vs. this Royal Kludge keyboard.
The first impression I got out of the box with this Royal Kludge keyboard is that it’s very efficient in its size. There’s no extra border around it and no hand rest. I think that’s a good thing in my opinion. It means that I can fit it in more spaces, especially if I take it on the go with me. I also like that there’s no sharp edges on the border. It’s all smooth and has rounded corners. I don’t know why I like that, but I do.
When I ordered it, I wasn’t sure if there were feet on the keyboard that you could raise and lower to angle the keyboard more, but yes there are two feet that can be raised and lowered in the back of the keyboard. In addition there are 4 rubber/silicone nubs that are on the bottom, and they improve the sound and feeling of typing on this keyboard.
As for the build quality and feel, it’s made of plastic, but it seems to be very solid plastic. When I pick it up and attempt to twist it, I can’t. On some keyboards when you do that, it will bend a little, and you’ll hear it squeaking as you’re doing it. But not this keyboard.
About the only thing it’s missing is an on/off switch. For those of you with cats or with toddlers who like to type on when you’re away from the desk, that might be an issue. You can always just unplug it from the USB port, I suppose. But I wouldn’t deduct any points from my review for that.
Another first impression I got was that the keys are really raised above the surface of the keyboard. If you look at it on its side, you can actually see the switches! Very neat! I feel like this raised feature makes it just a little harder to type on, or at least you might have to adjust slightly (consider lowering your keyboard tray a bit or putting a hand rest in front of it). But long-term, I think the raised keys will help prevent dust and grime from getting down into the keyboard and gradually decreasing its performance. This will let you easily clean everything out.
Using it for the first time, I had to learn how to set the keyboard lights so that they weren’t freaking out. There are a ton of lighting options for this. I really don’t care about them. I don’t need to feel like I’m going to a disco every time I enter my office. The only lighting effect I used was to have the keys that I type light up as I type them. That gives me some visual feedback on whether or not the key was activated. It’s neat!
I did not like the choice in font style for the keyboard letters. It reminds me of how parts of keyboard letters wear off over time in some of my older keyboards I’ve used. Some of the letters actually look like that. It’s a weird choice for a font. But again, I wouldn’t take away any points for that.
The Ctrl key is a bit smaller than what I’m used to. No big deal there. I’m just glad it’s on the far end of the keyboard. Some Mac keyboards hide it in between some other keys, and that just really annoys me about them. So this keyboard does it right.
And there’s an extra key on the right side of the keyboard that I didn’t have on my last keyboard. No big deal there.
As for the clickiness, my overall impression after using it for a day is that it’s pretty much the same volume as my Das Keyboard 4 with Cherry MX Brown switches. Clicky, but not overly clicky. If you’re in an office environment, you’re probably going to want to get a more silent keyboard so your neighbors don’t get annoyed by the constantly typing sounds. But if you do get it for the office, I don’t think it’s too bad. People will tune it out over time.
As for the feeling of the keys, it’s pretty much perfect. It doesn’t quite “smack” the keyboard when you reach the bottom. There’s something there making it a bit softer. Speaking of that, you can adjust your typing to get less of a smack and less of a click if you go softer. My Das Keyboard 4 allowed you to get almost silent if you go soft enough, but not this Royal Kludge keyboard. The volume doesn’t go below a certain threshold on this one. You would have to really go slow if you wanted to type more or less silently on this one. It’s just not going to happen.
Overall, I’d say this was a great purchase. I’d recommend it to others. Hopefully the keyboard lasts a while. I’ll update my review if I see that it’s having problems over time.
Hope that helps!
This keyboard is well built! Feels strong and looks great!
Just got it like an hour ago and it’s amazing. The RGB looks sexy and the build quality meets my standards. Good for gamers and it functions very well and does as intended while looking good
