Dislikes: it only records for 30 seconds so misses much of the event. Have to pay to keep recordings beyond 48 hours. Works with Wi-Fi active so won’t be good in power black outs.
Likes: clear images. Mainly reliable but has missed a few known events. Easy to install. Battery means will be active in power cut but needs Wi-Fi to report.

    Great wireless re-chargeable cctv camera.

Have to put out of arms reach at a height as the mount for the camera is a magnetic base.

It’s OK but not the best. Looks nice smart battery life is around a week with continuous use. Doesn’t record long enough and can miss vital moments. Detection doesn’t kick in untill about 3 metres distance. But picture quality is good untill you zoom in then its all distorted. Have to pay monthly subscription to get full benefits which doesn’t cost much but should come basic with the camera any way. All in all I will continue to use this camera but not as a main cctv camera as it have weak spots and can be abused

Started with doorbell which we loved then purchased first camera to cover garden wow fabulous so good we purchased another one to keep watch on cars. But dubious where we live so additionally security is great. Takes a few goes to set-up but once done quality is brilliant. Quality of night vision also great. Sensor to phone excellent. Highly recommend item. Seller great next day deliver with clear information on how to return.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersIt seems that the market is saturated with these Wi-Fi cameras and as such choosing one (or more) can be difficult. While on the surface many different models from the various manufactures appear to have the same or similar features, their prices range from apparently very cheap to eyebrow-raising high.

One camera however that is seriously worth considering is this “Toucan Outdoor Security Camera.” It features a 4400mAh battery meaning you don’t have to worry about drilling through walls or routing cables to connect this to the mains (but you do have to periodically recharge the camera). It’s weather-resistant (to the normal IP56 standards) so it should survive everything the British weather throws at it.

It is easy to install via a magnetic base which means you can remove it when needed and readjust the angle should you want to adjust where it points. While it makes the camera more user-friendly it does give me a bit of concern that someone could steal the camera. Therefore I’d recommend fitting it somewhere (high up) where this can’t be done easily. I would have preferred an additional option of fixing the camera a bit better (despite having to remove it to charge it), a single screw that you could tighten or loosen would have done it for me.

What impressed me the most was the build quality – this is a solid and well-constructed camera that fits together to form a perfectly robust and “sealed” looking piece of tech. As others have mentioned the set-up is easy and problem-free with the app giving you various settings and controls to explore. I’m glad there is no subscription “cloud” service to pay for, as I have seen this on high-end cameras before.

Picture quality is perfect in every conceivable way – it really delivers what it promises. The sound quality seems rather average but I’ve yet to find a Wi-Fi camera that can excel in this area. I think for most users picture quality is far more important than sound quality so I don’t really consider this a negative.

For a single camera, this is a good option in terms of security, reliability, and quality on offer. It is slightly more expensive than other models but in my opinion the build quality and knowing that it will last makes it worth the cost.

This Toucan wireless outdoor camera is a really well designed, battery powered and capable camera that provides a high quality video feed.

It looks very modern by design and is finished in a matt white body and is quite inconspicuous at 8 x 8 x 4cm is size. Installation could not be simpler as once you have attached the base plate to the wall using the screws through the base plate and preferably out of reach the camera itself simply mounts magnetically on the base and can be moved easily to the angle you monitor.

The camera uses a FHD sensor with a high-definition lens that captures video in 1080P 1920 x 1080p Full HD for clear and crisp recordings night or day. Watch remotely in real-time using the mobile app, even in night vision mode and it has a motion detection feature that pushes a notification to the camera app.

The app is called Toucan Smart Home and is free and camera set up is simple, just by opening an account, connecting to your wifi, select add camera in the app menu, then press the start button on the camera and pair the app and the camera. After that its just a a matter of selecting the features you wish to activate and use on the camera in the app. One feature I like is the ability to turn off the red activity like so it is less likely to be noticed by a would be intruder.

It uses a 4400mAh battery that lasts 1 — 3 months when fully charged which although short compared to other similar cameras at least its ease to remove for charging due to the magnetic mount.

Best of all as its wireless, battery powered and is very easy to set up it can be used indoors or outdoors almost anywhere it can connect to WiFi and you can monitor the video feed remotely using a smart device connected to the camera app.

There is also 2 way audio so you can speak to a visitor or warn off an intruder.

I’m a huge fan of battery security cameras as they are they are a lot more versatile on where you can instal them so I have a few already as I have quite a large house and grounds and like to keep my family safe.

All in all the Toucan battery security and although the battery life is shorter than I would like it is still well designed and good value for money so well worth considering if you are looking for an outdoor security camera with a simple wireless installation.

Well designed, wireless and outdoor security camera

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersFirst, this is a fantastic camera for an affordable price. It is perfect for what it proposes to do. However, there are some caveats that I will discuss here.
    *Image:
Full HD, crystal clean in well-lit environments and good enough in low light ones. In an entrance door, I would recommend having a movement-activated light together with the camera if you want to have a clear picture of the face and check details far away from the camera. But again, given its size, the low light is ok.
    *Installing:
That is where this camera shines! It is as easy as it can get to install this camera. It comes with magnets, so glue the base with the adhesive that comes together, or screw it with the also included screws, and the camera will attach to the base via magnets. Moreover, if the surface is metal, you can keep the camera in place only using the magnets force. They are pretty strong.
The camera needs no cables and has a good stable wifi connection, so installing it is the best user experience ever.
    *Usage:
If you want an external camera that is always connected to the main power, this is not it. If you connect the micro-USB cable to it, you will leave an open hatch, and it is no longer waterproof.
There are some nice features, such as automatic messages once it detects movements, aside from the speaker that you can speak using the app. The dedicated movement sensor is precise and only detects real movements, turning the camera only when something is detected. The is no way to keep it recording all the time; it only activates on movements. That is why I recommended it for front doors, back doors and garage doors.
This constant on/off on movements can be quite annoying if you plan to use it in a baby or toddler room. It makes some noise, and the blinking infra-red can be distracting. I don’t recommend it in rooms where people sleep at all.
    *Battery:
Another great and rare feature. It comes with a good battery that lasts a long time, especially due to the dedicated movement sensor that only turns the camera on if it detects movement.
Their claim of 1 to 3 months, well, it can be real if you install it in an area with little to no movement. I put mine in a bustling corridor of my apartment. It barely lasts 1 week, as it constantly turns on. Still, this is a great duration. The baby camera, for instance, lasts less than 2 hours using its batteries. I can see it going over a month if it was at the back door of a house during the winter.
    *The app
Well, cameras these days are all around the app. This camera has no internal storage, everything in on the cloud.
You can store only 1 day of videos on the free plan and with 60seconds max length files. If you want to pay around 3 euros a month, it raises the limits. Well, good price, at least.
Now, privacy concerns. The app needs improvements. It requests loads of permissions and don’t explain to you why. For instance, GPS localization. Why? Sometimes, the mobile said that the app was using the mic in the background after I closed the app. I ended up disabling the permissions to my Mic and GPS; no big deal, but it still needs improvements. Once the app request access, say no and tick the ‘don’t ask again’ that android offers.
The app user experience is actually excellent; it is responsive even on my 5 years old android phone. The features are all there, you can easily find everything, and it never crashed. Well done!
    *Conclusion:
I gave 5 stars despite the caveats discussed above. I have several other cameras, and this one still excels in scenarios that others don’t, such as places with little movement and places with no cable or power available.
The pricetag they ask is fair; the camera is well built, full of useful features and very stable (connection/app/wall support). I definitively recommend it for the right situations.

This is a good security camera, built well and decent quality.

It was easy to setup and use. Whilst it hasn’t seen harsh weather conditions, it was good to see that it has weather protection IP56 so is quite robust.

The Motion detection has been good and I thought that was a useful feature but as the device records onto the cloud, if you had to access multiple recordings then you would need to get a subscription which would come at an additional cost.

I like the features it has including the built in siren and two way audio. A couple of things to consider is that it does not have an automatic motor to move it, you have to do it manually and also, you will need charge it, maybe every month so you can’t just plug it in and forget about it. I uses 2.4 GHz WiFi so keep this mind and also where it is placed to ensure it is able to get a decent signal.

Overall though it does have some really useful features, provides high quality video and can be really helpful as a security device given the price.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI’ve tried a number of security camera products, and this is one of the best.

It looks great, and of course, the lack of wires is a huge selling point. The battery is rechargeable and should last 1-3 months, I’ll update with actual usage.

The strong magnetic clip makes positioning and removing for charging a doddle. You’ll need to set the location such that it’s not too easy to steal – you wouldn’t use this close to public areas.

It needs to be within range of your WiFi. It does not have any self-contained storage. When motion is detected, a recording (up to about a minute) is sent to a cloud location, and remains available, free, for 24 hours. No registration other than setting up the app is required. Paid extensions are available, but the free level is fine. If anything of interest happens, it’s easy to download to your phone for posterity.

I’ve yet to find a security camera that genuinely alerts me in time for visitors to the door. For this camera, there is the delay in detection, then my noticing the alert on the phone, then logging into the phone and starting the app, and getting a view – the latter of which alone takes about 5 seconds. So even if I heard the doorbell ring, it would take me 20 seconds or more to see who it is. Once there, one can talk to the visitor. The microphone is excellent. However, nothing beats a conventional video camera (wired) with a dedicated display right by the door.

It’s therefore really limited to after-the-event recordings. That in itself is useful, as is the existence of the camera and blue LED (motion detected) and red (night-vision) that should put off any miscreants. Personally, I find it most useful when away from home to check who has arrived during the day, and when. Other than being a visible deterrent, it’s not fast enough to alert me to be an actionable deterrent.

Nice little surveillance camera indoor or outdoor.

    Easy set-up and clear instructions.
Great benefits in it is that it is battery powered and there is no need for any wires. Easy to install and adjust and I like magnet style of holding the camera.
Image is very acceptable for 1080p and night vision is smooth as well and fast refresh rate of the image.

Overall just as it should be and great for the purpose

This outdoor security camera sure makes me feel safe. I was always worried about who was at my door. Now i can just see who’s there. Keeps good peace of mind.

I just plugged it in and it works great. Could not find nay faults at all with the product, Top-notch in my book.

All in all a great camera to watch over my family as we sleep to keep our house safe.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersFirst impressions of this camera are excellent with its neat, compact design, smooth tactile finish and easy fixing to its base via a very powerful magnet. Because it fits to its base magnetically, it must be positioned out of reach of visitors.

Setup was fairly swift. It wouldn’t connect to my tablet running Android 10 but on checking via Toucan’s very responsive customer support, I was advised it is only compatible with phones not tablets – a pity because when away, I rarely have any phone signal, so was also hoping to use it with my tablet. Not a major issue though.

The Toucan app download was straightforward onto my Android 8 phone and runs smoothly. I did, however, have some difficulties connecting via our BT Hub but then realised it is dual-band 5GHz/2.4GHz and the Toucan camera only runs on 2.4GHz. This necessitated disabling the 5GHz and 2.4GHz so I could connect it to 2.4GHz following which it has connected reliably and operated well. Any other BT users are likely to have to follow the same steps.

Once setup, the app is user-friendly with several user options eg to adjust motion detection sensitivity, snooze the camera eg overnight to switch off alerts although the camera can still be viewed live.

Image quality from the camera is good both in daylight and overnight. It is possible to hold a 2-way conversation with delivery couriers or warn off prowlers, activate a siren or a dog barking although the latter isn’t very convincing. Previously recorded phrases can be played to callers such as “Hello, who is it?” or “How can I help you?”. Still frames or live video can be recorded and uploaded automatically to Cloud storage and in the event of a security concern, the ‘SOS’ button on the app can dial 999 (untested!). Additional cameras can be added to provide increased property surveillance around the building and garden.

Battery life seems fair. I haven’t managed the promised 1-3 months but in fairness my trials have taken place in temperatures of -6C rising to 2C and with the recent frosts and snow, there have been more passers-by out sledging past our short driveway so the camera has been activated more than normal. It has survived frost, been coated in snow and pelted with rain so I can confirm it is fully weatherproof. For extended use, the camera can be connected to the mains via its micro-USB power input or even powered by USB powerbanks.

Due to the ongoing UK lockdown, I haven’t yet been able to test it yet away from home.

Based on its performance to date, image quality and ease of use, I would happily order a second for monitoring our rear garden.

Good performance and easy to set up on 2.4Ghz WIFI

First impressions are a well made camera, that has a very solid feel to it, a good weight, it comes well presented, a magnet wall mount, a charging cable and an easy to follow set of instructions.

Set up and installation is via an App called Toucan, its surprisingly very easy and straight forward, the app is nice and simple, basic functions, but everything you’ll need.

The magnet mount is small and, you’ll need to fix this to the wall, the magnet is good and strong, I’d position this in a slightly sheltered position, not sure about our strong winds, and if it would moved the camera, you’ll also need to be able to get to the camera to recharge it, claims to stay charged 1-3 months which is a fairly big gap, but I guess the length would depend on how often the camera is on, its motion sensor operated, so would come on with movement.

The quality of recording in day light it superb, sharp, clear easy to make out figures, faces etc, nighttime its very good, obviously not as clear, but still easy to see figures faces etc.

I do like this camera, I like the mount, however I’d rather is was secured someway, it would be easy at the right height to be removed and stolen.

All in all this is a great indoor or outdoor security camera, one of the better models I’ve tried, and one of the better made.

Easy to install, well made, superb camera

First off let me say I love the magnetic mounting it’s very heavy duty and only moves when I move it, it’s impervious to the wind and it makes taking it down to charge a breeze, the 1080p video is some of the best I’ve seen so far and installing the camera and app to get going was quite simply simple, the camera itself is well built and I expect it to easily stand up to our weather so all in all I cannot fault it, highly recommended wireless CCTV.

  20. Craig Jones says:

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersIn principle this is a standard IP camera with dedicated App, in this case called ‘Toucan’. The camera itself is a sleek design, finished in white, measuring 8 x 8 x 4cm, full HD (1920 x 1080p), IP56 weather resistant, and is powered by a 4400 mAh rechargeable battery, with quoted 1 to 3 months life on each full charge.

Fixing the camera to a wall/ceiling is by screwing onto the surface a small concave baseplate and the camera then sticks onto this plate via its magnetised base. It’s a powerful magnet so outdoor use in windy conditions shouldn’t be a problem, remember though to mount it high enough to prevent it from being pulled off of the magnet and stolen.

Once fixed it can be swivelled around on this base to achieve the desired angle. It’s not motorised but must be manually moved so be sure to position it correctly.

The App is called ‘Toucan Smart Home’ and is downloadable for free. Connecting to the camera is very easy – simply set up an account and connect to your home WiFi then go to the ‘add camera’ section on the App menu. Press the ‘start’ button on the camera and it will pair up to the App. I found it quick and reliable to connect on the first time of trying — some cameras are notorious for proving difficult or impossible to connect.

Controls on the App are confined to just the basic essentials, and I like this simplicity. Briefly they are:

Night vision: Auto/always on/always off. This controls the night vision IR camera lights
Motion sensitivity: max/high/medium/low. This controls the amount of movement required to trigger the motion alert
Motion recording when activated (starts recording when camera detects movement)
Motion recording disable (go to menu ‘snooze schedule’ and set to permanently snooze)
LED light: ON/OFF. This turns the red LED on the front of the camera on or off for discrete use

For a few more controls the App can be upgraded (at a cost) to the PRO version but the basic ones are good for most situations I would say.
