I bought this early January and installed it. It’s been up and running for almost a month now prior to me writing this review, so the review is based on on perceptions gained over usage, rather than unboxing and thinking “oh that’s pretty” and then writing a review that has no practical experience behind it.

    Here’s what’s good.
    1. Fairly easy to install using the PlusMinus app.
    2. Connects with both Alexa and Google. We have Alexa in most of the house but Google Home in my bedroom as it came as a freebie with a Pixel phone a couple of years ago. We had no issues getting the bulb to work with both digital assistants.
    3. And this one is relevant. It does not disconnect and require reinstalling. That has been a pain in the backside with a different bulb installed in another room.
    4. On pure white it has a really decent level of brightness and lights up a decent sized bedroom nicely.
    5. All the voice commands work and can even be abbreviated. If you’re in the living room and fancy it dimming down you don’t need a lengthy command which has the rooms individual name in. A simple Alexa, dim the light to 50% works fine. “Hey google – Light on orange” will similarly turn the light on and auto change it to orange.

    In summary, it works perfectly.

I bought this bulb for my living room, as we’ve lots of children and they often hold sleepovers etc and set up camp there. It’s safe to say it was a hit! They’ve made a whole bunch of preset light shows for dancing too, and it’s been fab for Halloween as you can see the bright orange light from outside through the windows.
The set up was easy, although I will mention it only lets you control the app from one account. My husband set up his own account on his phone and it kept kicking me off when I tried to control the light. This was easily fixed by setting the bulb up with my main account, which is linked to my Alexa, and just getting him and the kids to setup the app with my account details.
The range of colours is amazing, and if you just want a big standard light ‘colour’ it has those too. I generally just ask Alexa to turn the light to ‘warm white’ and that does the trick.
When you turn the light off, and back on again it remembers the last colour it was set too which is handy.
All in all, great little bulb! Fun, easy to use and not a bad price either!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersOn its own this bulb performs really well with the plusminus app, you can change the colour, brightness and warmth of the light. There is also an option to have it flash different colours like a disco or fade into different colours, you can even put your phone/tablet next to a speaker and have the light change colour in tune to your music.
With an amazon echo dot this bulb is fantastic as you can see in the video I uploaded you can tell it to change whatever colour you want, adjust the brightness and turn the light on and off by using a voice command. I have a bulb in my dining room and bedroom and i can tell Alexander to turn the light off in the dining room from the echo dot in my bedroom which helps me when going upstairs at night as its pitch-black on the stairs and my young daughters sleep with their door slightly ajar and turning the landing light on wakes them up ( Another solution would be to put another bulb on the landing and set it to nightlight on the app or tell Alexa to turn the brightness down to 1 or 2% which is fantastic when I’m on my xbox in the dining room.
Setting up the bulb to the app was extremely easy all i did was follow the instructions.
Setting the bulb up to an echo dot was a bit more effort but there are loads of YouTube videos available to make it easier.
All in all I think these bulbs are brilliant and I’m slowly trying to convince my non tech savvy wife to let me put one in every room.

    Fantastic bulb, easy to install

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThese bulbs are great fun and, unlike our previous conventional bulbs, completely silent in operation. No annoying high frequency buzz.

Despite having been promoted by Amazon as an Alex accessory, Luminan are not one of the compatible brands listed within the Alexa App. That’s surprisingly irritating but, after a few (well, quite a lot) minutes faffing around, we eventually managed to integrate them with our Alexa. As with most things Alexa, they don’t work straight out of the box, but it’s worth persevering.

Another super feature is that you can tailor the exact shade of white you prefer – be it a starkly brilliant electric white or something in-between. After the novelty wears off, choosing the shade of white will probably be the feature we most value.

During boring COVID19 lockdown, this is just the sort of frivolous gadget that will keep a family amused for ages. A quick word with Alexa now has us luxuriating in a red light district. Cool!

Amazing value, particularly as no other hardware is required.

Golden Review Award: 19 From Our UsersThis product is great! It works wonderful with my Alexa. Would recommend if you are interested in smart tech. The size of the smart bulb is small compare to other smart bulbs I’ve had before. Super easy setup. Also great response time, no delay when using Alexa or the app.

Golden Review Award: 14 From Our UsersGood bulb but quite hard to connect.
Had to go on my broadband website, set up a 2.4g signal and connect the bulb to that.
All home devices lost WiFi signal and had to be reconnected.
Took around 45 minutes to connect the bulb and Alexa.
Didn’t use the app that the manual suggested, used SmartLife.

Once installed the bulb is great. Various options, colours, reading light, work light, night light, pulsing colours, set colours. All controlled within the smartlife app.

The bulb also can be set to react to music and change to the beat.

If you have the patience to set it up, would definitely buy again.

    Recommended.

    Great voice activated bulb

Golden Review Award: 60 From Our UsersFirst things first, I’m reasonably tech-savvy, used an Android phone to set them up and I’d already split the Wi-Fi channels on my BT Home Hub. (These’ll only connect to the 2.4GHz channel, you see.)
So, with all those steps already taken care of, installing the bulbs and hooking them up to Alexa was a piece of cake.

The bulbs, at full whack, easily put out far more light than a 60 watt incandescent bulb…but you can tone them down, and make the colour as “warm” as you like, through the dedicated app OR just ask Alexa to do it for you. Of course, the app lets you be fully more creative, and exacting, with the colours, allowing infinite customisation and the option to set “cycles”. (I dunno, maybe you’d like for passers-by to think there’s a raging inferno in your house? Maybe you’d like to make it feel like there’s a police-car parked outside? You can do all of that…and probably more.)
The true glory, though, is when you realise you can tie the colour, the brightness AND some music from your Echo into the one instruction…dim the lights, give it a pink shade, get some Barry White on…sexy times await.

Golden Review Award: 24 From Our UsersI have the Phillips Hue lightbulbs (which are much more expensive). Bought my sister an Alexa for Christmas and as she loves using mine to control my lights, wanted to get her something similar but didn’t want to buy for a full Hue system – ended up buying one of these.

It works very well, she’s extremely pleased. It has a good range of colours, communicates well with Alexa and is easy to install. Very bright too! Would definitely recommend as a cheaper alternative to the Phillips Hue systems.

Golden Review Award: 28 From Our UsersThis works easily with my Google Home mini and the Smart Life App. Unlike other advertised bulbs that say they are 60watt equivalent light output, this one definitely is. If I ask Google Mini to turn the light on pink, it is pink not a strange purple colour which happens with another bulb I have. It takes about 1.5 Watts when off, which is about 2.50 a year in electricity and 7.5 Watts when fully on. I use one as my Main lounge light and one in a side light. Just wish they sold them in 3x packs at 33 a pack. I’d definitely get some more.

Golden Review Award: 38 From Our UsersThis is an ingenious device. Using as a ceiling light. See some reviews are critical of connecting to the wifi. Had a little testing time too, but noted the instructions, made the changes and it worked a treat. Bought an additional two as gifts for the kids at Christmas. These lights mean genuine savings. Most LED lights cost between 6 to 9.00. I would have considered buying a dimmer switch, but no need now. No longer have to get out of bed to switch off the light…just use my phone, or Alexa.
Also can schedule times to come on/off, good feature when on holiday. Also no need for a task light. That can be used elsewhere. Durbility an issue, dont know. Who knows how long they last, but value is brilliant. Savings on being left on needlessly, can switch off downstairs. Saving on not having ti buy a dimmer, and hassle of fitting it too. I have 5 of these lights now…brilliant. If I can get 5 years out of them I will be thrilled. I am 5 months in and had no problems, other than a new app I must have.

Golden Review Award: 237 From Our UsersFeels like a quality product and once installed and connected via the app it is a great. The kids love the different colours! However, installation was a bit tricky as it needs to be activated on a 2.4Ghz WiFi network, which they do tell you but to the IT uneducated you may not understand the implications! This results in installation not being very straight forward if, like me, the device you are using to register and connect to the bulb is connected to your Wi-Fi network on 5Ghz. If you are lucky and it connects first time then you probably were already using 2.4Ghz band and don’t need to read any further! However, if like me you couldn’t connect then you may find this useful…

Most Wi-Fi routers are dual band and operate on both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz. Your phone/device and router decide which band you connect to depending on strength and distance. You will need to log on to your router’s homepage and check which band your device is connected to. If it’s 5Ghz you will need to turn this band off and your device will automatically reconnect to the 2.4 band and allow you to connect your bulb via the app. You can then turn 5Ghz band back on and your bulb will work fine thereafter.

Connecting Amazon Alexa is straight forward too, find and enable the PlusMinus skill – just don’t forget to tell Alexa to search for new devices before you start asking her to do things with the bulb!
