This was great for shade and really easy to set up. Held up great in some heavy ocean wind. But, re-apply that sunscreen y’all. You will still get Sun even if you’re under it.

The Sun Ninja worked as advertised! We used it at the beach and were very pleased! Easy to set up. It withstood high winds and did a great job shading us from the sun all day. Love that it comes with a little shovel to fill the built in sandbags. Highly recommend.

Definitely make sure that you have enough space to stretch this flat and tight before setting up. As long as you do that, this is way more reliable than any other sun protection system we have used on the beach. Also extremely easy to take down and put away. One person can easily setup and take down.
Super lightweight and doesn’t take up a lot of space when packing to travel.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersIt worked well even with 20 MPH gusts of wind. It’s important to fill the bags well and to dig a hole and place the sandbag in it so that it doesn’t move in the wind. Read and follow the directions for putting it up and you will have a good experience. Guess and think you’re doing it right (like my husband) will add some stress to your lives.

Lightweight, easy assembling and good sun protection. Definitely better for beach/sand settings than grass.

I’ve seen several of these at the beach. I love how compact they are when disassembled. So much more convenient than the old pop-up. Still figuring out the best way to keep it from falling in the wind. It did great job keeping us cool when the breeze was calm during the day. Evening winds kept knocking it down, though. I’ll watch a few videos.

Easy to set up and held up to the wind! I have recommended this to friends since we’ve been back from the beach. Folds up small and the carry bag fits into a small suitcase. It’s not waterproof so beware if it rains hard but it will hold up to a sprinkle. Save yourself some trouble and buy this. Don’t lug a big old tent down to the beach – you’ve got enough to carry already.

We are absolutely so happy that we had this last week at the beach! The sun was so intense, and a normal day without this we would not have lasted 45 minutes! We even had light rain and was able to stay out there and not get wet! Highly recommend this! 100% worth the money! So several others out there, but not this exact one and we were so glad we picked the ninja!

Years of dragging a pop-up canopy to the beach was brutal. This tent is light weight and may take more time to setup but once up does not get taken by the wind. I’ll never go back pop-up canopy. Less room taken up in your vehicle when traveling and again light weight when your taking everything down to the beach.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis thing is great! I searched many and glad I decided on this one. It was super easy to set up. We witnessed tons of people struggling to set up theirs at the beach and we were done and relaxing while they were Still working on theirs. Great sun protection. I definitely recommend the 4 poles for a big family. It was 3 adults and 2 squirmy kids and they had more than enough room to move around the tent, playing while getting shade at the same time. The best part is that it’s so compact and lightweight. It was windy when we went so my husband just twisted it and it held up great! Highly recommended!

Purchased the 7’x7.5′ Sun Ninja while on vacation in Florida in July after our sun umbrella turned. inside out twice in the wind! this size is suitable for 2-3 people in beach chairs. 2 people with 2 sand scoops (1 is provided) can assemble in 5-10 minutes.
The key to stability is to ensure that the 4 sand bags are very full!

Much better than a sun umbrella

This is an awesome beach tent.. it’s helpful to have two people to help set it up but can totally be done alone. Make sure to fill the pockets completely up with sand especially on a very windy day. It’s only called over once on us as a rain storm was moving in on the beach and winds got heavy. Nice carry bag and separate bags for the poles.

The tent is really great! It is lightweight and easy to carry. Our six year old carried it with no difficulties! It is easy to set up and comes with a shovel to fill the bags. On very windy days, we buried the bags for extra security, and it is versatile in that depending on the weather, it works equally well with two or four poles. Best is it isn’t noisy like the more expensive tents! Definitely would buy again!

Very easy setup and worked as advertised. We did wish the poles were longer as the height of the shade was a little on the short side. Would definitely recommend though.

    In short:
Works well in the wind and stood up to the Cape Hatteras winds with only minor issues.
Assembly is okay for one person, but works better with an extra pair of hands.
Provides adequate sun protection, but I would not skip on the sunblock in general.
Pack/unpack is easy, if you don’t apply special folding methods, and storage is convenient with bags for poles separating the canvas from potentially sharp objects.

I was so tired of setting up multiple beach umbrellas that no matter what always left me feeling like they were going to blow away. For the first time ever, I didn’t have to hold the an umbrella pole and had both hands free to read and enjoy the beach. Comes in a carry bag for easy transport to and from the beach and was super easy to set up and take down. It provided enough shade for five adults and one baby. I’m very happy with this purchase and would recommend it.

This sun shade is actually really nice. The first time I tried putting this up myself, I almost gave up. The sun shade kept blowing over, even my kids couldn’t hold it up. Come to find out, you have to stretch the material and fill the sand bags as full as you can get them and then put the poles in. The kids still had to hold the poles for me, but I think I could’ve done it myself.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersThe product is great and works better than expected. We had a very windy day the first time out. We quickly learned that the sandbags need to be placed about six to eight feet away from the poles to counter the wind gusts. Once we figured this out, the shade poles were rock solid.

We had multiple comments and compliments from passers by. Almost everyone at the beach that had a traditional ez-up or umbrella shade device all gave up and folded their shades because of the winds.

The only gripe I have is that I wish the poles were a bit longer. Once you place the poles in the ground, you lose about 6-12″ of height.

Overall, I would highly recommend this to anyone. It’s made from sturdy materials and very stretchy fabric to withstand a lot of pulling stress. This seems that it will last a very long time.

We moved to Florida and fell in love with the beach. We bought a beach umbrella and it was a disaster. Hauling it and the wind blowing. Saw this on Amazon and decided to try it out. First time my wife and I put it up in 5 min. And took it down in 5 min. Had many beach people stop and ask where I got it. It worked perfectly.

Took this abroad to Menorca. Easy to put up and take down in a matter of minutes. Can be washed in machine when done and comes in storage bag. This sun shade stood the test when umbrellas were being blown down the beach. Would strongly recommend a purchase. Only negative is that it could of done with a small brush in the bag to clean loose sand off. Picked one up on holiday for 1.

Watch a YouTube video on how to use especially in windy conditions on the beach. The key to to put the poles 5-6 inches from the seam. Lay flat make a X on the beach keep taunt. Everything fits on a bag which is easy to carry and travel with. I live in Florida and go to the beach at least twice a week. Well worth the money. Upgrade from your beach umbrella to the sun ninja you will love it!

I did some research before making this purchase and happy with it on our first try. I read all the tips in the reviews such as filling bags as full as possible and burying them after pulling them taught. I chose this shade over the Shibumi due to the flag noise it makes and it doesn’t work if there is no wind/breeze. I am also pleased with the navy color as it we felt very shaded under it compared to the lighter colors as a previous reviwer stated. Do not miss the metal pop up tent at all given how lightweight it is.

Sun Ninja…first time out I’m impressed.
Especially the size of it when it’s in its carrying bag! Use to take a large canopy that had a large HEAVY METAL frame for high wind and a beach umbrella for calmer conditions.
Doing so had to lay down the back seats in my suv, add the coolers and beach chair
With the Sun Ninja no need. Everything fits easily in the back with seats up.
First time setting it up I was kinda unsure on just how far to stretch it so the front kinda swayed down. Second time I stretched it out further and it worked great.
Mr. Miyagi highly recommends the Sun Ninja..Daniel Son, it works.

Just used this for the first time at Hilton Head Island and couldn’t be happier with our purchase. My main goal was to find something easy to assemble and the Sun Ninja exceeded my wishes. We were up and relaxing within five minutes. We purchased the XL size and had plenty of room for my family of five. Even on the most windy days, we had zero issues with our tent. Hubby & I decided this was one of the best purchases we’ve made lately. Get one, you won’t regret it!

This is easy to assemble and pack up after use. Used it with some wind and still worked out Ok.
The only reason I gave it 4 stars is for two reasons:
1: the spikes aren’t pointed at the bottom, making it a little difficult to put in sand when it’s not soft and fluffy.
2: folding the poles/ connecting them can be a little difficult after use because they get scratched and one of mine is now stuck togethe

    Good produc

We purchased the 7 x 7.5 Sun Ninja to use on the beach this summer.
I read reviews and watched plenty of videos prior to our trip.
I was nervous about getting it stable, however , it was very easy!
Just make sure to stretch as far as you can and then fill up the bags. When all the bags are full just prop up with the poles and reposition bags if needed. I found that burying the bags in the sand helped some. We enjoyed full days at the beach and never had an issue with the Sun Ninja.
I will be purchasing the larger shade for next summer. We are a family of 4 (1 adult son, 1 teenager) and wished we had just a little more room.

I have tried the typical 4 pole, metal framework canopy for the beach. They were heavy, bulky, and a bit hard to set up by myself (72 yr old male).
I bought the Sun Ninja (7×7). It is easy to carry, set up, and adjust. I saw several others on the beach. I talked to one of the owners and he had nothing but praise. It kept my wife, 2 young teen Grands, and myself out of the sun.

This was good enough. We had trouble in the Outerbanks one day when the wind was strong. The thing was collapsing. But after setting it up daily for a week straight, I can offer tips.

    1. Fill the bags as much as you can. When you think your got it as full as possible, FILL IT MORE.

    2. Stretch the arms out AS FAR as you can. The more you stretch, the less slack.making better protection from winds.

We had zero problems on normal wind days. It was just one day with higher gusts that was super annoying.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThe Sun Ninja worked great on high wind days. We had no issues until it got up to about 20 mph. Be sure to fully fill the bags and stretch out the 4 corners before adding the polls. Bury the bags if you need too. On the side facing the wind, we moved the poll top within a few inches of the edge to reduce the amount of fabric hanging over to catch wind gusts. On the windiest day, we set 3 of the 4 polls across the wind facing side to make it more rigid and then put the 4th poll towards to center to channel air through the center. We found it best to set the polls straight up and down with no leaning and we would sink the polls about 4 inches into the sand.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersWe take yearly beach trips and have always used an umbrella, and have always hated it. I’m constantly worried that it is going to blow away and I’m always looking over my shoulder at it. 9/10 it does blow away or blows inside out.

We purchased the Sun Ninja and I’m blown away. It was super easy to assemble with two people and it’s STURDY. The shade is made to flex with the wind and the poles stay put in the sand. I didn’t look over my shoulder one time to make sure it was stay there. Definitely fill up the bags with LOTS of sand and make the tent as taunt as possible. There were other sun ninjas here at the beach who were having trouble and even asked us how ours was different and we just told them the more sand the better and spread the shade far out as it will go.

Definitely recommend and so happy we found a great shade for the beach!

Tent is great. But I find when using at the beach, you must fill the pockets with sand until they are overflowing to get the most benefit of the weight. And they still require to be staked as the instructions state. It did require constant adjustment if sustained winds are at or over 10 mph. When rolling up to put in carrier, I find that this is a two person job. Was difficult to manage same brand beach blanket when packaging solo. Other than that, the light weight and ease of setup has made this is best beach tent I have owned by far. And living right on the beach, I have gone through a few! Definitely worth the money. I did not give it 5 stars because of the difficulty of packaging solo, especially if there is a sustained light wind blowing.

This product is amazing and so sturdy yet flexible. The bag is light weight and the assembly is fast once you get used to it. It blows in the wind without falling over, and provides just enough shade. Be sure to follow the instructions!! If it’s not working well, there’s a 99% chance it’s user failure. Put the end portions/sand bags in the hole you dug, it keeps them from sliding. Stretch it out as far as you can and don’t forget the ties that go on top of the poles! Otherwise the big cover piece will just slide off them. It worked perfectly for a month in Maine on rocky beaches, and in the sand by Lake Michigan.

Saw on the beach and thought how neat. This is a great little sun covering if you have kids. It does not hold up in the sand as well as I would have hoped, but all in all it is worth the money spent. I was surprised when I received it how compact and light weight to carry. I sent it ahead with my sister who had never seen it before and they could not figure out how to set it up with out directions. Someone else had one and they watched them. I had watched the Amazon videos so I knew in advance. Maybe Our sand is really soft at the Jersey Shore because I had to keep repositioning the poles. Hence 4 stars, but still better than augers and 3 umbrellas. I would buy again if needed.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersWe have 4 little kids and I (dad) am the pack mule for the family. This made the load of things we took to the beach soooo much lighter weight than taking a metal framed 10×10 pop up canopy.
Having the pockets to fill with sand attached to stretchy canvas was a lot easier than having to adjust a rope with stakes.
The bag is very compact and nice quality. The little shovel it came with was made with thick plastic. While the canopy was set up I just put it all in one of the sand pockets to store it.

All 6 of us were able to benefit from its shade (in chairs). We even expanded it by using two sun ninjas with 6 poles and overlapped them in the middle! Which was great because our beach group was 18 people.

The only drawbacks were that I couldn’t stand up straight in it without brushing my head on the fabric (not a big deal) I’m 6’2″.
Without our metal frame canopy we couldn’t hang things go dry. Also, not a big deal.

The sun ninja was a great addition to our beach gear that I won’t go to the beach again without.

We’ve used this on the beach twice now, in two different configurations, and it’s been phenomenal!!

    Set Up:
Really easy to set up even solo, and you can use 2, 3, or 4 poles for different configurations (slanted roof, diamond, etc.). It’s also easy to move while set up also; this was useful when the sun moved throughout the day and started creeping in one side.

    Pack Up:
The canopy material and poles are super durable and easy to get sand off of. It comes with a few extra ties as well, in case use lose some. The first time we packed it up, my wife folded the canopy neatly. The second time, I just stuffed it in the bag after the poles.. can confirm both ways work! It all fits in a very compact bag with a shoulder sling. No real complaints here, other than the strap could use some padding; it kind of dug into my shoulder when walking with it for awhile. Super minor issue.

Usually we don’t even like going to the beach, and our “beach gear” doesn’t usually last for several trips, but this looks like it’s going to be a mainstay for sure, 5/5

The only negative about this tent is the footprint. If you go to a crowded beach, you wont have room to set this up. You need space for the coverage area, but you need space to stretch out the legs. So a 10×10 may need 20×20 of room.

Fantastic product. Lightweight and easy to set up. Overfill the bags, then keep over filing them. Added a little dollar store sand shovel, which helps, but you can just as easily use hands. Pull out after filing, and then come back later in the day and set up the poles so you’ve got a nice spot. Never going the the beach again without it, complete changes how we vacationed.
Also: we bought the floor, it’s overpriced, but not actually. After using for a week I’d argue it’s a must honestly, especially for napping with just two poles up.

    I almost never review btw.

    Game change

We are a family of four and we no longer wanted to lug the huge, heavy canopy tent to the beach. So I found this- less room in the car, I can carry it alone, fast set up, fast take down. It is truly perfect. We over filled the sand bags and had zero trouble with it in the wind, even extremely windy days when an empty chair would blow over! I do wish we had gotten the next size up. I got a large and four camping chairs, a beach bag, and a small cooler fit under the shaded part just fine but we were a little close together. I did see some larger ones on the beach and wished we had that size for this trip but also know if we go to a more crowded beach we wouldn’t feel comfortable taking up so much space (stretching out the sand bag sides far provided more stability to the tent and that takes up a lot of beach space) Overall, I am very happy we got this and highly recommend it! It shows zero wear and tear after a full week at the beach all day every day!

We usually use an Easy-Up 10×10′ pop-up tent at the beach but it is very heavy, takes a lot of space in the suv and the salt air and sand causes issues after a couple of summers. This Ninja tent is a good alternative. It is lightweight and easy enough to put up. Our daughter was afraid it was coming down every time there was a little wind. It held up well until the wind got up to about 10-15 mph. The trick is to get equal tension on all four poles for stability. The negatives are that the headroom on the 7×7.5 is very low (it is not so bad on the 10×10′ Ninja) and the shade area is smaller than the Easy-up. The definite pros are the portability and size in storage. The very reasons we bought it.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersBought this and it was able to fit in my 80L backpack with my fins, snorkel, googles, toiletries, clothes, etc.

We used this for when we went to St. Thomas (USVI), and have used since being back home in California.

I read a lot of review to: (1) get an extra shovel (so 2 ppl can help fill up the bags – makes setting up go faster), (2) add A LOT of sand, and (3) stretch till it can stretch no more! And it worked PERFECTLY!

The SunNinja’s wind withstanding was tested when we went to Magens Bay, where it was VERY VERY WINDYand it didn’t fall for the entire 10 hours we were there! There were a lot of other tents similar to our (from different companies), but they fell due to the high winds. Ours stayed up though! Due to the poles not being so tall and listening to everyone saying, “overfill the sand bags and stretch till you can’t anymore,” REALLY helped out!

There were SOOOO many people coming up to us on our trip asking about our tent, and we gladly bragged about how AMAZING it was!

With 2 people shoveling and setting up, it takes 5-minutes to put up and to take down.

HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!! WE LOVE OURS!

assembling it at the beach, it was a windy day and it simply would not stay up. It took 6 people to assemble it and somewhat make it stay in place. We try different angles and rotate it many ways.

It served its purpose. I think there could be improvements made to the poles, such as making them adjustable so you can adjust the tent as the sun moves throughout the day. For now it was worth the price I paid. I got this tent on a deal day.

This is a great sun shade unless it is extremely windy. I also learned not to pull the supports too tight. Leave some slack and it will stay up much better.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI’ll be completely honest, it was our first time putting this thing up and it did fall in the beginning because we didn’t have the correct placement. This was a bit frustrating but once we figured it out it works like a charm. We live by Siesta Key and the wind was pretty tough the day we put it up, it never failed the remainder of the day. I saw others with similar products that were significantly impacted by the wind but ours was sturdy the entire time. The KEY is to STRETCH it. Once you do that it’s an awesome product.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersEase of transport, ease of use, and effectiveness were the qualities I was looking for when I bought it. It measured up.

I put this up first in the back yard by myself. It took about 10 minutes because it’s a little bigger than I thought, and I had to move items as I worked. In a bigger clear open area (and practice), it should take about 5 minutes. The poles stayed up pretty well until it rained. It’s not a rain shelter. I found it to be excellent as a sun shelter–big and cool.

At the beach, it took less than 15 minutes working alone to fill the bags and get it up. I found that digging the poles into the sand prevented them from shifting, which lowered the full height but made it sturdier in the breeze. The material is quite stretchy and needed adjustments as wind gusts changed directions. I used all 4 poles and might well have done better with 2 in a lean-to setup because the breeze was pretty stout. I recommend this shelter and plan to take it on a biking and hiking expeditions as it is quite light.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersAs my husband set this up, people watched, unsure. Then, after it was assembled in like 10 min (we’ll bring a slightly bigger shovel next time), we enjoyed shade and watched as countless others struggled with tents. One guy came to take a picture of the name.

Our babies hung out happily in the shade and we didn’t have an eyesore of a tent. It flowed in the wind with the beautiful turquoise that went right with the beach. Plus it is so compact that it was a breeze getting it to our spot. So glad we found this.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersEnjoyed the new pop up tent. Took a little work to set up. Where the sand is not located where I wanted to set up my tent. Have not tried it in the sand yet only on grassy area. Took me about 25 mins to set up. Need to make sure you put enough sand and the pegs are holding the tent properly. It was really windy and one of the loops that connects to the tent. where the peg goes in got loose and free. Then the tent collapsed. So I twisted the loops so that there was more tension and harder to get loose from so much movement from the wind. Brake down was much faster about 5 mins. I’m sure settings up will be faster now that I actually done my first set up. But if your like me it took a little more to set up with beach mat and a little pool I have for my baby. However it is HEAVENLY out on a beautiful beach day with shade!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI love the color. Set up was super easy. I it up by myself and took it down with no problems. The only thing is getting the poles to align right in the corners and spreading out the sand pockets for a good hold. Took me about 10 mins once setup to walk around and adjust the poles and sand pockets to get it just right. When the wind picked up and shift the poles did collapse. We weren’t under it thank goodness. I set up again according to the new direction of wind and speed and had no problems after. I’m in love and everyone was staring checking out the setup. I just wish the poles were a little taller. It does look taller in photos. We couldn’t stand fully up underneath which isn’t a deal breaker because I don’t stand to relax. I got the matching blanket and it looks awesome together.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersDig 6″ holes for the poles, two poles sturdier than four, pile sand high around poles after finding a nice slight 5-ish degree inward angle, and be sure to use enough sand in the corner pockets. Use the bands around the foam balls at the top and make sure the foam balls are centered at each corner. You can even flip up the lip of the shade that is facing the wind before using the bands to reduce flapping. Nice thing is that flapping is not noisy due to the perfect fabric used in this Ninja. Suggestion: get some plastic chip clips to reduce wind resistance on the upper lip of the shade facing the wind. We bought a 7.5-footer. We will also get the 10-footer! Great product.

Only used twice, so far, so i cannot speak of longevity. Bought the 7×7 and so glad I did. It’s design with the sand weighted or staked corners stretches out further…there may not be enough room for a 10×10 version on a busy beach. Very compact, easy to roll up and return into the small duffle bag. Love how you can rotate blankets underneath without having to change position of the sunscreen. 3 adults and a child easily fit, some reclining others sitting. Using only two of the posts protects from wind. Great visibility to see what all the action is around the screen.

We live in Mexico, in a place not as busy as the bigger resort towns.. umbrellas from Costco are everywhere then the wind picks up, and unless you have your umbrella tied down, it flies.. or becomes a reverse umbrella. If you FILL.. the bags not just a few shovels full.. and pull it tight as you are setting up wind will not be a problem
When we arrive on the beach once we start setting up we noticed we are being watched.. but after a few minutes we are already under our tent for the day.. then the curious arrive.. where did you get it.. many want to feel the material.. I have used it over 20 times.. it holds up well.. packs easy. And very sturdy in a 20 knot breeze
I recommend a better shovel .. the scoop is good but a camp shovel is better setup dig 1st hole and fill the bag burying the bag .. stretch material and repeat for each hole. Then set up the legs.. when it just the two of us we only use two poles.

Have used it at the beach a few times – extremely easy to set up and pack down. Holds up really well even in reasonably strong winds. Our Sun Ninja is and has been great! We vacation often in Siesta Key (Sarasota, Florida) where the sun is intense year around. We have the larger 4-person with four poles and have hosted a full party under the large shade it provides.

Many other beach-goers has stopped by and asked about our Sun Ninja and happily endorsed it.

We have used our Sun Ninja even in very strong winds when other tents and umbrellas didn’t have a chance. The secret is to bury the sand bags in the sand. The stronger the wind, the deeper. I will share that I am using a different sand shovel than the Sun Ninja shovel that is larger and a bit more study which helps speed up the setup of our Sun Ninja.

I highly recommend to anyone looking for great sun protection that works in both calm and windy conditions.

The Sun Ninja is awesome!! First of all, the lightweight and easy to pack/transport design is a huge perk. We wanted something easy to travel with as we were taking road trip to FL. The Sun Ninja is also extremely easy and quick to set up. One person could do it by themselves if necessary. It is also strong and sturdy! We had some windy days on our beach vacation. Sometimes, we noticed that everybody else had their umbrellas closed. Other times, we saw the wind blow some of them inside out. We never had any issues with our Sun Ninja!! It stood strong in the wind and provided shade for those who didn’t want to be in the sun or just needed a break from the sun. We are planning another beach trip, via plane this time, and will definitely be taking our Sun Ninja with us!

We took the Ninja to the beach. At first we were having problems with the poles falling down alot. Then a lovely older gentleman came over with some great instructions. He told us we didn’t have nearly enough sand in the sand bags to hold the canopy taught so the poles would stay up. He also brought along a “metal collapsible camping shovel” filled up each sand bag with 20-25 lbs of sand. Once we learn this we also purchased the proper shovel and had our canopy standing up without falling no matter how windy the days got. We gave the shovel the Ninja came with to our grandkids so it all worked out okay.

This has been used twice so far this summer: including once by my teen daughter, who set it up with her friends with no issues. There’s a lot of stuff in the bag — the sun ninja fabric itself, a little shovel (2 would really have come in handy!), the poles, and little elastic bead ties for securing the fabric on top to the poles). The important thing is to fill the side bags with sand. On a windy day, we saw umbrellas flying all over the beach, but our sun ninja didn’t budge. The poles wobbled a bit, but they were held securely by the sand bags. It’s a little involved to set up (mostly because you have to shovel so much sand into the bags, with only 1 shovel). But not complicated, and definitely worth the effort — lots of shade/space underneath and NO chance that you’ll end up running along the beach chasing your umbrella! The best recommendation is that strangers on the beach came over to ask us where we purchased this.

Easy to put up and when the bags are filled enough it stayed put in some pretty strong winds. It was a little lower than expected (I have the large) at about 5′ but for 2-4 people it is big enough. A group next to us had the XL and they had a large group in the shade (6 adults+kids), on the other side was a less expensive brand, same style but string to the bags, they had a much harder time putting it up and after a short while one of the poles bent. On the second day a group set up next to us with a shibumi and the noise drove us crazy so it must have been even worse for them. I would recommend the 4 pole so you can set it up facing the ocean and not the wind, that was another issue I noted with the shibumi, they had to face it into the wind which for the 5 days we were at the beach was blowing off the land towards the ocean so they had to look at the ocean through a flapping canopy.

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.

The first time out I got the Ninja set up without too much trouble. You REALLY need to fill the pockets to overflowing with sand. But once I did that, it stayed put in a fairly decent wind. I noticed that putting the poles near the corners of the tent increased the amount of shade and reduced the ‘lip’ that the wind would catch on.

Unfortunately, after an hour the beach police came by and said they only permit umbrellas, not tents, so take it down. Such a bummer, especially as there was no-one around us for 30 ft (we picked an out of the way location). Now I’m thinking that many of the beaches we go to may be the same. Womp womp.

This product is great! I don’t often write reviews, but since I ordered this based on others reviews I thought I’d write one too. I was worried this might be difficult to setup since we have 2 young kids and we were going on a Florida beach trip.

We wanted a tent large enough for our 2 kids and 6 other nieces and nephews. Something strong enough for Florida beach wind. Something with quick setup, light, and with lots of sun protection. This tent hit all the marks.

We had so many people asking us about it on the beach too. One of our beach days was exceptionally windy and even rained so we set it up with just 2 poles. All week everyone in the family races to grab the tent for every beach visit.

I highly recommend this if you don’t like to bake in the sun. Or even if you do it’s a nice placeholder on the beach to store your stuff out of the hot sun.

I highly recommend getting a few beach chairs, a large blanket, and you’re set!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersProduct Development I hope reads this. It came with a scoop that was very convenient. However it was made of a clear plastic and very hard to locate on the beach. I’d recommend it being made of some color.

For customers looking to buy this. If you decide to get it when you get out to the beach lay it out do one side is facing into the wind. Fill the bags all the way. When you think they are full, fill them a ton more. Stretch the bags out, really tighten the fabric. Once its really stretched out if it’s windy you’ll want to fully bury the bags before you lift the legs up.

Now that they are full and buried (optional on windy days) get 2 legs and put the front legs (the one side facing the wind) up first. And really stretch that fabric out. Then do the back 2. Once legs are up to around and stretch them further out. Then use the bungy straps to hold fabric to the ball part of the leg.

This cover has been the best cover I’ve had and bought for my family I decided on this one due to its design, and that it came with 4 legs. Some came with not so good legs and people are making their own with pvc. This product has been great.

I bought this and 2 camping tables and they fit into a back pack. I carried 2 chairs, my back pack, and drink in my other hand. Didn’t need to roll the stupid wagon through the sand this year. Made my life so much easier carrying everything for my family like a camel. Guess my wife did carry the kids for 9 months. A week worth of carrying sand toys they don’t play with isn’t that bad.

But still if you are on the edge. Get this. It goes up in the yard or beach perfect shelter from sun.

My best setup instructions! Fill all bags completely full and handle from bottom of bags. Fill one bag and then pull the next bag TAUT and repeat. Then add poles on the corners with a slight angle outward.

Very happy with my purchase! I bought it for a family beach trip and its very easy to setup. The biggest pro is its not going to blow away, It can fall over but you don’t have to worry about it taking off and hurting others. Others in our house had an umbrella which constantly tried to blow away and an easy up which got damaged from wind half way through the trip. Winds were over 15mph steady all week and it did great. Folds out very big but pack away to a quarter of the size of an easy up.
The only thing I worry about is longevity. Im interested to see how it does being stored for the better part of a year until our next trip and so on.

The Sun Ninja comes in a very small package compared to the pop up canopy we have used before. It’s much lighter too! While one person probably could put this up by themselves, having some help makes it a lot easier. Especially in windy conditions like we had our first day at the beach.

Since the beach area we were at was part of a gated community, at the end of the day we just folded up beach chairs and laid them out under the Sun Ninja and took the poles out. The canopy stretched tight enough to hold everything neatly in place. The next day was an easy one man job to pop the poles back in place.

Held up well in some pretty gusty wind, but did blow over once. But the poles are so light there were no worries with anyone getting hurt. My family members thought it was awesome and are looking at getting their own. Very pleased!

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersWe used this last week on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Worked very well. Did need some adjustment, moving poles and the end sandbags. By the third time putting it up we were able to raise it better.
We left it up as the tide came in and it soaked the two lower bags, no movement or issues, just stayed up. Yes the fabric was wet when it was packed up, but we draped it out during the evening and it was dry before dinner. (to repack.)
Women will get this tip easy, slide the bungee toggle things around your wrist as you assemble the poles then you can’t lose it in the sand. We only had one pop off during disassembly and it was found after but they include extra bungee things in the bag. So far so good purchase. D

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersWe bought the XL Sun Ninja Beach Tent to use for our family vacation at Nags Head on the NC Outer Banks. We’ve been vacationing here every summer for over 30 years and have tried more than a dozen types of beach tents from a variety of manufacturers. Every single one was eventually destroyed by the strong blustery winds that are common on the Outer Banks. To our delight and surprise our new Sun Ninja tent performed flawlessly! I cannot overstate how happy we have been with it. For one thing it is so light weight and EASY to put up compared to every other beach tent we ever tried. One person can easily put it up in ten minutes or less and two people can do the job in 5. So simple! Plenty of room for the six adults in our group to relax in beach chairs in the tent’s shade. Remarkably, the stretchy tent fabric and strong but light aluminum poles allow the tent to flex and “give” in the wind without breaking. Gusty afternoon winds of 25 mph didn’t faze it. An unexpected thunderstorm (with wind gusts of over 35 mph according to the National Weather Service) did cause the tent to come down but the poles simply fell over gently with no damage whatsoever to the tent. When the storm passed we put the poles back in place and had the tent back up in less than a minute. This tent performs even BETTER than advertised and I recommend it it highly with no reservations.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI am here to tell you this is a two person (or more) job. If there is wind this can be a challenge to put up. You must stretch this out as far as you can and fill the corners with a lot of sand and make it heavy to create tension. Then attempt to put the poles in. If you try before hand without filling those bags heavy the poles will keep falling. I will say this though, once it went up it never fell down. I would suggest those beach umbrella sand anchors to get depth in the ground to hold the poles but, hmmmmm the poles have to be at the right spot to create the tension. So I don’t know how well it would work. The material is super light and stretchy. It was easy to transport and take down and put away in the bag. Nothing is ever easy to do at the beach especially if there a wind . Make sure you are in a spot where you can stretch out the tent without bothering others. The shade was excellent you can easily fit 2- 6 ppl under the shelter. Definitely helps with the sun protection and much bigger than a cabana or an umbrella you rent at the beach. Have patience and enjoy! I am NOT sending this back. It’s a keeper.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersUnbelievably great! After 4 yrs of watching/reviewing similar products, decided this yr to take the plunge. Naysayer husband wasn’t happy with me spending the bucksinitiallyuntil he lived it. After trying to fit an umbrella & accompanying screw locks AND dog posts with tethered rope to keep our umbrella from impaling us or others for 20 yearsnot to mention the area carrying such in a vehicleafter two days he ADMITTED he was wrong. That’s a feat in & of itself! This is an awesome purchase!
Buy the extra large versionperiod. Easy to pack in vehicle, easy to carry to beach. Recommend to do as they instruct: stretch it WAY out, fill the pockets & WHILE DOING so..make a place to bury in the sand. I say bury it ONLY because in anticipated HIGH winds, you’ll need it. We didn’t for 6 days, then we encountered 25/30 hr winds & hubby had to bury them & it STILL HELD UP in Cocoa Beach FL May 2021 winds.
Being we put up ours in pure loose sand, we had absolutely NO TROUBLES emptying sand. I honestly couldn’t believe it..NO SAND residue. Got it home & still NO SAND!
We had many people stopping to ask about itmany wanted pic’s. For those who watched us for 6 days, at least 3 placed orders to have one themselves. That should give testament of the validity of this product.

    Stop waiting! Just buy i

Took us a moment to realize we didn’t have enough sand in the pockets at first but once we figured it all out, it was awesome. Held up to the wind and provided enough shade for 2 people and 3 medium-large dogs. We got lots of compliments. Great investment and was easy enough to fold/roll back up to store in the bag. The packaging was great for all the bits and pieces that it came with. I was impressed by all the little part bags and extra mini-bungee cords. Very pleased with our Sun Ninja!!!

UPDATE. CAMPING MUST HAVE. We usually just take the Sun Ninja to the beach with us but now it’s our newest favorite camping accessory…as long as we have the space to stretch it out. It’s been through rain and wind and still going strong. NOT waterproof so don’t think it’s going to keep you dry…but it does dry quickly when it does get wet.

Super pleased with the Sun Ninja!

At first my headline was going to be: “Windproof?! Yeah right”, but after reading the instructions again we were able to get the shade up and stable in a 10-15 mph wind. The key is ALOT of sand in the bags and make sure to stretch it out all the way before adding the poles. If you’re using the stakes make sure to stretch it all the way out before staking it down. Additionally the bungee cords that keep the poles together in the bag should be used on the top side to secure the ball on pole to the fabric. I really like to fact that it takes up so much less room in the boat than a standard “easy-up” tent. If fits in the front hatch with everything else and goes up just as easy, if not easier, than typical metal frame tents. It is also considerably lighter. The all aluminum poles are also a plus as we use ours in sand and near saltwater so corrosion resistance is key.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI am excited to discover the Sun Ninja because IT WORKS when the wind is blowing! We set this up in a stiff breeze that would have been impossible with one of those heavier folding steel “pop shades”. Check the photos carefully because they tell the story. Easy to assemble: One person could set this up but it was really easy with the two of us. Initially, we didn’t put enough sand in the bags and the wind caused them to slide and collapse the tent. Even after we filled them, the wind was strong enough to pull them out of place. The trick was putting the filled bag into the hole that we scooped the sand out of. Once we did that, they anchored down nicely and we spent several hours sitting in the shade of our canopy and enjoying our day on the beach. UV design so plenty of sun protection. The wind was blowing stiff and steadily all day and the stretchy fabric just bounced and rolled with the punches. This made a nice big shade area where we were able to spread out and we didn’t have to move all day. Light weight: At 9 pounds, this fits neatly into a medium sized backpack with a couple of beach towels and a soft side cooler loaded with lunch, snacks, and water bottles. Did not need a hammer or stakes to secure it. Great product! I would buy again.

It is very light weight and after the first day you work out the set up & layout with the correct amount of sand needed to make the sun shade work well (about the size of a basketball of sand in all the 4 corners of tent) it is very easy to assemble each time you use it.
I think we added some new customers as we had no less than 6 people/families ask about our XL tent set up.
2 people watched me set it up three days in a row and on the 3rd day came up to comment on how easy it was to get the “learning curve” after watching over the 3 days and ordered their own after watching me set it up those days.

Be your own Sun Ninja and envy of the beach!!

I purchased this because I love the beach but I hate to just sit and bake. I also thought this would be great to take on a cruise, no more do I have to pay to rent an umbrella. This is very lightweight and held up very well in the wind. Make sure to watch the video on how to set up. We tried this out on a beach in Florida where we had to walk .5 miles on a boardwalk to get to the beach. Easy to set up, held up well in very windy conditions. I will say that I was disappointed that the stakes that came with this are not the ones advertised but cheap ones. The corkscrew ones would have been much better. I took away a star for not being as advertised. But I highly recommend if your looking for something lightweight and easy to set up.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersPros:
    – Very light weight and easy to transport from car to beach and back
    – Large coverage area for the 10 X 10 / 4 pole model
    Cons:
    – Setup takes longer and can be tricky when dealing with sea breezes. The pouches that you fill with sand take A LOT of sand to really get filled enough to be effective. We plan on bringing additional shovels so multiple people can help with the filling. Also It’s a bit tricky getting the tent pointing in the right direction when dealing with windy/breezy conditions. The poles are not designed to dig in to the sand like an umbrella would and as a result the whole tent can easily collapse if it’s not positioned probably. Once it’s set up it works great, I just don’t like that it’s so finicky and takes so long. Regardless, I’m keeping it and hopefully will get better at setting it up with practice.
    – Poles – this is a minor point but we’re used to hanging small beach accessories on the umbrella pole (small bags, blue tooth speaker, etc.) That’s not possible with this system so we’ll have to find some other method for keeping these items off the sand.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersWe love our new Sun Ninja Beach Tent. Easy to set up, heaps of shade and easy to pack up. Was initially a little worried about the large size of the 8 man… Would definitely recommend. We are a family of 4 and the 8 man is perfect without being too obnoxious. Forget Cool Cabanas…..the Sun Ninja is where it’s at!

It gave us a large shade area. Easy to carry and erect. When it became windy in the afternoon we need to modify the erection.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersFirst – this sun canopy is exactly what I’d been looking for – easy to assemble and very light weight. I was facing a deadline in terms of getting it before we left for the beach. I called Sun Ninja and spoke with Daniel – wow – what service. He and the crew went above and beyone in expiditing the canopy and extra poles to me – all arrived a couple of days before out departure – thanks so very much!
I bought two extra poles and you can see how it worked with the 7×7.5 canopy that comes standard with two poles. BTW – it works very well with the two poles – we just wanted more all around “overhead” and the two extra poles gave it to us. It was pretty windy and placing the poles closer to each corner cut down of the amount of canopy that hung down facing the wind. Filling the end “bags” (part of the canopy) was a breeze with the included shovel on “wet” hard packed sand but was also easily accomplished just by using hands when we set up on a “dryer” part of the beach.
Am I happy with my Sun Ninja – absolutely – won’t go to the beach again without it!!! Thanks Sun Ninja – Do

    Perfect :))

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersIf you’re looking for a beach canopy that is lightweight and easy to assemble, look no further. After researching dozens of models, brands, and price points, I stumbled upon the Sun Ninja. I liked the fact that it came with a shovel and didn’t have a middle pole. The videos made it seem very easy to assemble so I waited for it to become available again. As soon as it was, I pulled the trigger and purchased the biggest size.
Here is what we have found to make this the most awesome and successful beach canopy:
-Spread it out like in the video and fill the corner bags about half way.
-stretch it out as far as you can again and mark your bag placement
-dig a hole big enough to encompass the sandbag when it is overfilled with sand
-place bag in hole and start filling her up, to the point of it overflowing, just like the video says.
-bury the bag with the remaining sand from the hole.
-lift the canopy and insert a pole underneath each corner, aiming poles TOWARDS the wind.
This might seem tight, but trust me, you want it as taught as possible.

Once we started burying the bags, we had no issues whatsoever. I should also mention our “shovels” consisted of a beach toy shovel and 2 sand castle toys. The shovel that came with the Sun Ninja broke as soon as we went for our first scoop!
We will be bringing our fold-up camping shovel from now on.
I would absolutely recommend this canopy to anyone and would purchase again.

    I love my Sun Ninja!!

We just came back from a 2 week vacation in Hilton Head where we used our new Sun Ninja (10′ – 4 pole version) everyday. The wind on HHI is known for frequently changing direction and a significant amount of gusts in the 10 – 15 mph range. We always see umbrellas, and sometime tents being blown over.

The first couple of times we used the Sun Ninja it did get blown down (which is just a collapse that is easily put back up) by strong wind gusts. We called the company from the beach and much to our surprise the gentleman literally walked us through what you have to do to eliminate any such issues. He was awesome, friendly, and extremely helpful – both my wife and I were genuinely impressed by their helpfulness.

Here’s some tips for successfully using this tent in windy conditions…..

The directions tell you to spread the tent out on the ground, and filling in the bags with sand, before putting up the poles. What you really have to do is stretch the corners apart as much as possible so that the fabric is as tight as possible on the ground, before you put up the poles. Once you put up the poles the tent is then super taut and more resistant to the wind. Also, do make sure you fill up the bags to overflowing with sand, the more weight the better. Finally, make sure each of the 4 bags is in a depression, or trench, to prevent the bag from being slid across the sand by the wind. Once we did these recommended steps we had NO problems with the tent being blown over by wind.

Overall it is easy to put up, take down and worked great. The quality of the tent and poles is great, add in the great customer support and it is a winner!

So first I will give you the positives. Small and easy to pack in car and when going to the beach. Lightweight and extremely easy to set up. When I say easy to set up I mean really easy to set up. Can do this alone within less than 5 minutes. It is tall with 4 polls and plenty of space for a family of 3-4. This thing really was very good. We had the hurricane come through and were out the next day. Some pretty decent winds and to be honest the cover fell on my wife. Really only took a couple minutes to reposition the poles and stretch out the ends with more sand. From then on we did not have any other issues with it falling. Overall very happy with this tent. In my opinion much better than the other options out in the market. From its small packing size, ease of setting up and for the most part stability. Only real negatives is cost in my honest opinion.

Golden Review Award: 218 From Our UsersI just used my tent for a week on a Florida Gulf coast beach, and wanted to share my results.
First of all, having dragged off the wreckage of FOUR separate Popups Tents after misreading/missing sudden winds bursts, this tent is almost indestructible. It should last me many years of use.

When I first put the shade up, I didn’t fill the bags up enough, and they slide in the higher winds causing the poles to wobble and fall. Bummer.

Here’s the secret. Fills the bags all the way up. When you think you are done filling, fill it some more. Dig a little hole/trench and flop the sandbag into it so it won’t slide. You want it pretty tight so the poles don’t wobble in the wind. Use the rubber bands on the top of the shade, to secure the balls on the end of the poles. Double-wrap them. When you lose you rubber bands, replace with rubber band from fresh asparagus from the store. Lol.

My wife did comment that it felt warmer under the shade than our old tent, due to the holes letting some light thru. It’s SPF 50, so you gotta apply sunscreen always. Not a show stopper.

On two separate days, afternoon storms approached and destroyed pop-up tents around us. Sun Ninja just laughed. Worst case, the poles fall over and Ninja lays flat on the sand. Nothing breaks. I’m looking at another dead pop up now from my balcony. Don’t buy popup tents for the beach. Buy a Sun Ninja.

    Overall, an excellent sunshade.

    Great Beach Sunshade

Golden Review Award: 10 From Our UsersWe arrived at our Florida beach house the day Cristobal made landfall. The next morning, as the last of the rain bands cleared, we decided to head to the beach. There were still red flag warnings so no swimming, but we could sit on the beach and enjoy the surf. This canopy was amazing. Even in a 20mph wind, it stood strong. First time set up took about 15 minutes. Second time was only about 5. (Both with only one person!). When it’s windy, make sure to use plenty of sand or rocks in the pouches and use the included robber bands to hold the foam ball in place. I do wish there was a 4 pole option in the large size (or the ability to buy 2 “extra” poles.) It would make the canopy even more versatile as it actually requires a little wind to make the back section “balloon” out. Two more poles would let me use it back home where there is no constant sea breeze.
While it does provide shade, it is roughly the equivalent of SPF 50 sunscreen so it does not completely block the UV rays. As a fair skinned person, I personally like that feature as it gives me some protection on my “first day” of sun but still let’s me get enough sun without burning.

Worked great the day after Tropical Storm Cristobal

Golden Review Award: 233 From Our UsersI recently took the Sun Ninja to the beach this past week. I was so excited as I have to have shade if I go but really wanted something sturdy for the wind as I have had umbrellas and canopy’s blow away on me a few times. I had no idea that the day I picked would have 25+ mph winds (I didn’t check forecast well). After driving to the beach I really didn’t want to leave so I stuck it out. The wind was SO bad I was honestly nervous to try and out the shade up. There was no way anything could last. After being in the sun and knew I was getting burnt I had to try to put the shade up. I reread the directions and watched the online video (which had great suggestions for windy days) and it went up effortlessly and stayed up the entire time! It was also easy to adjust. I am a fairly small/short person and I was able to adjust and put it up by myself. I am so happy with this purchase!

Golden Review Award: 105 From Our UsersMy first Sun Ninja experience was amazing. At first the wind was blowing hard and I had my reservations about whether the tent would stay up, after filling the anchor bags to the top with sand and stretching the sand bags out as far as possible, I can officially report back that this products works well! For best results you need to stretch this tent so that it stands firm. Looking forward to our next beach day

Golden Review Award: 262 From Our UsersThis was SO easy to lay out and set up and super lightweight in the carrying bag. When we took it down, the sand fell right off. It was breezy the first day we used it, so I gave up trying to fold it back up and just shoved it in the bag. The next time we pulled it out, a couple days later, it was in great shape- no wrinkles or anything. I love that I didn’t have to hammer or screw things into the ground and that the simplicity made it easy for EVERYONE to help with set up and tear down. We bought the biggest one, just so we’d have room to not be on top of each other. We ended up using regular sack chairs, instead of the low beach chairs bc there was tons of room underneath. There are lots of different ways this could be configured, depending on how many poles you used. If you’re in the fence, I found this to be far superior to those dome tents or the circular sunshades for the beach. And lighter weight that the square canopy shades on the frame. Highly recommend.
