Never in my life have I ever slept so well on one of these. It does not go down and you can pump it to your spec, three mates copied me
Gd buy
Brought this for a one night camp as we were short on tent space! Easy to inflate and stayed up all night! The bed was very comfortable and I have struggled in the past with other similar options. Nice size too.
great solution for a better nights sleep, not like sleeping on concrete as with some thinner (more expensive items), yes its a bit heavier and larger, but the comfort outways the negatives great for moto camping where a little extra weight is not much of an issue.
I’m done with buying double airbeds where, when one of us gets up in the night, the other gets a cold bum. These were laid on top of a cheap sim and with the built in pillow we had a great night’s sleep every night at Boomtown. Easy to inflate, just a couple of minutes and not sure why others have struggled to roll them back up they were easy. I managed to roll up to its packaged size but the bag has ample room. Ticks all my boxes, well worth the money lightweight small easy to inflate and a great night’s sleep. Bingo!
One of the best sleeping mats I’ve come across. Only hitch and I mean only hitch was we tried manually pumping up but would have taken ages, so bought an air pump, did the job in seconds then topped it up with inbuilt pump. Perfect. Air pump cost was 11
Bought for son’s festival year .. he says it’s been great.. (last 2 Glastonbury years) & didn’t deflate over 5 days.. easy to put up & also used a lot for sleepovers at his fla
It is a bit big and bulky but once you inflate and bed down for the night its all worth it. Built in pillow Support around the edges Wide sleep area and no bottoming out. Comfort all day long for me. It is a 3 season mat but if you insulate under the mat or between you and the mat or both its fine down to about 0. But thats just my experience so take that as you will. Happy camping
I purchased this to get a more comfortable night sleep when motorcycling camping,
It certainly meets my needs – this thing is more comfy than my bed!
I would say its use is somewhat targeted i.e. camping with a vehicle/festivals etc… I wouldn’t use this for solo hiking trips as the pack-size is a tad bulky 🙂
Pros:
– Hard to beat the comfort you get from this. Prior to this I was using my 15yr old thermarest prolite
– At 6’2/15st I have no issues fitting on this thing. Yes my feet will dangle over the edge but as a side-sleeper this isn’t a problem for me at all. I can basically lay on my back/side/front on this thing and it’s fine
– Easy and quick to inflat / de-flate
– For motorcycle camping, packweight/size is ideal
– Price – 50 for this thing is great value and hard to beat
Cons/Niggles:
– I would have have ditched the built-in pillow as the raised area on its own is not really adequate. I think most people tend to bring their own smaller pillow anyway…the built-in option will probably just frustrate more than anything.
– No real need for the built-in pump as this thing blows up easy/quick enough with good old lung power (only takes a couple of mins if that)
Really lightweight but blows up to a good thickness, took about 3 mins to pump up, great for our festival, only issue is its a bit slippy! We were camping on a slight incline so whole bed moved a lot and sleeping bag slipped around but can work round tha
Exhausted of crappy air beds, I invested in this one after hours of researching options for Glasto. I slept on it for 5 nights very happily, never once needing to top up inflation. I can’t express enough how happy I was with this! Inflates incredibly easily and folds back up nice and small into the original bag. 10/10 recommend!
I had a very lightweight thinner mat, but as a side sleeper, my hip would always bottom out. This one is thick enough that that isn’t a problem. The pillow end is good enough on its own or with a t-shirt as extra padding. It feels like it will last reasonably well and packs down well enough too. The built in pump is handy as well. It is pretty wide for a camping mat (probably would struggle to get two in a two person tent) and with the raised edges you get a bit more freedom to turn and roll a bit than with most.
It is actually about 10cm too short for me at 183cm tall and I would prefer if the pillow part was smaller so I could scoot up a bit more, but at the end of the day I often sleep with my feet off the end of the bed even at home so it’s not a big problem for me. And I knew its length from the description before, which is accurate, so I’m not going to mark it down for that.
Just spent a week in Scotland on motorcycle trip. Used this every day and was so grateful for it. It’s super thick and easy to inflate with a mini pump. (30 seconds with a flex tail gear max pump). I slept on my side and it was brilliant. Bit slippy, but I can live with that due to the comfort. Remained inflated when I woke, and is simple to pack up (which I did everyday) for the money and coupled with the pump this was a much better option than an expensive self inflating mattress. Very please, but make sure you buy the pump.
This a good thick mat, probably could be a tiny bit longer for me (I’m 5,11″) but it was OK, I used a battery pump to inflate and it was quick to inflate, a few extra breaths and that was it, but it did lose a tiny bit of air overnight and was more comfortable for it.
I do wish mat manufacturers would leave out the pillow, I think I would be more comfortable with a flat mat and a pillow of my choice, just a thought.
Overall good comfortable, wide enough mat, I would recommend it.
This is the second order for one of these because I recommend it to another camper and they wanted one because they’re that good, excellent price and very comfortable. Would 100% recommend
Not the lightest for hiking, but the combined pillow is very good, and the built in pump does away with the need for an air pump so worth considering for good weather camping
maybe this sleeping mat was better of without the integrated pump.
Should be a lot easyer to deflate and roll it up again.
Good thing if you have wide shoulders like me ,then you found a mat where you d’ont roll off at night.
A lot of others are maybe fine to sleep on,but way to small fot a comfy night.
Nice and compact to take with me on my motorcycle vacantions
I fly military for work on the cargo planes, this air bed is really convenient, takes a little while to pump up but the comfort you get from it is worth it. If you’re a side, front or back sleeper you’ll be comfortable. The material feels quite thin so I put a blanket underneath just to protect from any sharp bits on the floor of the aircraft but has been durable enough so far. Would recommend this to anyone
Very thick. Comfortable. Just need to work out the best level of inflation for you. Easy to inflate and quick to deflate. Not sure how long it will last but so far have used it for 10 nights. Doesn’t pack as small as others as the foot inflater uses a large block of foam.
I like the extra width then the smaller one I have downside the size & weight but get a good night sleep 10/10
Very comfortable and great for side sleepers.
I am15 stone and I found it great.
Takes about 5 minutes to pump up using in built foot pump.
Really comfortable matress which is easy enough to inflate although the stopper can get in the way a bit. Have used it a few times while camping and had a great night sleep every time. I use it on top of a camp bed. Packs away really well and easy to get back into the carry bag.
I have had three self inflating mattresses and always felt like I was just lying on the floor. This one does take effort to inflate, once it’s inflated its very comfortable to lie on. As a side sleeper I no longer feel my hip and knee touching the floor. It doesn’t dip much when I move but supports my weight and gives me a comfortable night’s sleep. It is very lightweight and easy to put down and roll up when not in use
he sack that it comes with well not very sturdy, because when I put it back in the bag it hardly fits and ripped at the top so it needs to be reinforced to be hones
I’m a big guy, 6’4″, about 20 stone, and I tend to sleep on my side. Many an uncomfortable, sleepless night camping with my hips on cold, hard ground. Not with this mattress. It’s deep enough that I get comfortable cushioning without it taking too much room to pack.
Easy to inflate ,well made ,very light , me being at 6ft I wish it was another foot longer would be my only negative , apart from that great for side sleepers like me
I bought this because people commented that it’s good for side sleepers. As you can see with my pictures it’s super small (standard fork for ref) for travel which is brilliant, pumping it up took less than 2mins 30 (I timed it and I wasn’t racing). The built in foot pump is great and I just keep my toes under the plug to hold it open. I’ve now slept on it for 3 camping trips and it’s been great, the best blow up bed I’ve slept on. I do wish it was a little wider and a little longer but that’s just me being picky. I have found that it’s smooth surface coupled with the silky outside of my sleeping bag means I can slide around a bit, but a blanket inbetween fixes that (I am also a wiggly sleeper). It’s really easy to deflate just pop the plug at the pillow end. Folds up nice and easy once you squish the pump end down and goes back into the bag no issues (actually with plenty of excess space see pic). Comes with a repair patch and a band to hold the mattress folded (I may make a slightly bigger one as that is a bit unnecessarily snug). Overall I’m really happy with the purchase as it has made camping much more manageable for me as someone with chronic pain. I pair it with a super thin mat for some insulation from ground cold, have used it in hot and cold weather and had no issues, will say for side sleepers I’ve found it best to leave it with some give rather than full full.
This is basically an air mattress in a tiny bag! Easy to inflate and deflate. Easy to repack. Stays inflated through the night. Keeps you off the ground. My husband tried to steal it because it was so much better than his camping cot. Would definitely recommend!
Used it only once so far when out camping, it’s not as quick to inflate as I thought but just the fact that you don’t need a pump is a great feature. Super comfortable, I slept like a baby. Easy enough to deflate and repack. Adds a bit of weight to your backpack though, I personally mightn’t take it for multi-day hikes, but that’s me. Very happy with it, was better than expected.
Amazing customer service, can’t recommend enough, comfy sleep as well
Very easy to inflate / deflate nice and deep good to sleep in comfort . Goes back in back easily. Excellent purchase
Great for a side sleeper, lightweight, very easy to inflate/deflate.
I sleep on my side and struggle when camping. I also suffered either neck pain so have a special pillow that comes everywhere with me when staying over. I used this on top of my usual dream catcher mat. I slept better than I’ve ever slept when camping. The only problem I would say is that I didn’t need the shaped pillow at the top as my head would’ve been too high so I turned it round and had it at the bottom.
It went up really easily and only needed a few extra pumps after two nights. To deflate it was easy and to get it back in the bag the pump needs squishing and then the plug putting in to stop it re-inflating. Folded it into three and rolled it and it fit in the bag no problem.
I would definitely recommend this for side sleepers and if I ever need to sleep on anyone’s floor I’ll be happy to use this. Can’t say how it would be on its own but my general impression is that it would be OK. My dream catcher
which I had under it, is only a couple of inches thick. I’m heavy btw so I needed to find the right mat. Only gave it 4 as I’ve only used it on one holiday and don’t know what it will be like after storage, use over time, etc.
I ordered this after reading so many good reviews but not without some interpretation.
I wasn’t expecting to be as pleased with it as I was but after a lifetime of camping, my now 55 year old, 1960’s, genuine Lilo I was ready for a change. Which I would like to add, is still going strong but I’m not.
At first impressions I was concerned that it would be like sleeping on a plastic bag as it seemed so thin especially after the old fashioned Lilo and it does sound a bit like one but onwards and upwards…..
The new airbed went up in a matter of minutes without any huffing and puffing. Brilliant! I put the airbed on a sleep mat to help insulate it as I don’t think that it would be that warm on its own and I lay a lightweight fleece blanket over the top too. It’s plenty wide enough with good sized side baffles that help to keep you on the bed. I’m 11.5 stone and it feels plenty strong enough.
The outstanding feature of this airbed though is its pack size and weight. I use it for motorcycle touring and its perfect!
Highly recommended.
Although immediately pleased with this purchase, I was loath to writing a review until I’d slept on it whilst camping for a week. I simply can’t sing it’s praises enough. I’m a side sleeper and with other camping mats I’d often wake myself up swearing in frustrating at finding myself on the ground but this mat is simply wonderful. It is ever so slightly elevated at the sides, it is wide without being huge and above all it retained it’s generous height all night. In all honesty it afforded me some of the best nights’ sleep I’ve had in quite some time. I’ve been recommending it to everyone.
I bought 5 of these after a recommendation from a friend, well worth the money, very easy to inflate and deflate, went back into the bags easily.
A bit difficult to figure out from the instruction. Takes around 3-5 mins to inflate by stepping the bump.
Super comfortable, quite lightweight, inflates fully and doesn’t lose any air while in use, very wide with an excellent amount of loft. I just used this on 4 day camping trip and slept well on it every night – kept me warm and off the cold ground (I am a side sleeper). Easily fits in a 2 man tent but you may struggle to get 2 of them in anything less than a 3 man tent, as, like I mentioned before, this is much wider than your average sleeping mat. One thing I’ll say to the negative is that inflating is a bit arduous so you may want to take a foot pump.
This is my new favourite single airbed (it is an airbed really, just that the pump is integral to the bed, and lovely and soft as a pillow!).
The bed was really easy to inflate, once I’d sussed the technique. I’m not a small person, and so I was very pleasantly surprised that the bed felt as inflated in the morning as it had been when I went to bed. I was comfortable all night; I would say that I needed an extra pillow as the “inbuilt” one wasn’t really much of a pillow at all. Apart from that, I’m very happy with this.
This air mattress is perfect for my 3 week motorcycle journey throughout Europe. Lightweight compact and very comfortable. Brilliant quality and very well priced.
The built in pump is a bit useless. I used a normal pump & only used the built in one to top up air if needed. Overall really really comfy, packs down well. Great for camping camping trips but if your going hiking there are lighter & more compact options out there.
I’m 5f 6″ so the length is great but if your in the taller side you legs may hang off at the bottom.
No built in insulation so I’d really only use this for summer time, at a push late spring early autumn & just add my own insulating layer underneath
This is a great roomy airbed. Inflated very easily. Stayed up two nights. However only drawback is getting it back in the bag, it split at the seams.
Very comfortable and great size. If trekology upgrade this mat they should do away with the built in pump to save weight and fold up size
I haven’t slept on this yet.. but got it out of the bag to test ease of pump up, firmness and deflation. I was surprised at the ease of the pump in the pillow, it became firmly inflated pretty quickly and felt as it was going to be comfortable (I’m not a camper!) and it deflated easily to get back in the bag.
Update after use and 4 nights.. brilliant. So easy to inflate pretty quickly, stayed firm over the four nights and packed down and into bag quickly. Slept comfortably (I’m mid 60’s).
My family had traditional air beds which deflated a bit each night- I felt very smug!
Really nice product. Used it several times now and I am really impressed.
Durable, easy yo inflate and comfortable. Did not lose any air, even after 4 nights.
I can highly recommend this product.
Over all a good sleeping mat can’t really complain about anything with this mat iv had alot worse
Brilliant mat very light and very comfortable but not sure you can call it self inflating when you need to pump it up. Maybe better describing it as built in pump rather than self inflating.
Very easy to inflate with the built in pump and the most comfortable blow up bed I’ve used.
Bag on my latest one is slightly bigger and so it does go back into the bag.
I now have 2 of these and had an issue with one of them but trekology sorted it really quickly.
Overall very pleased
can’t fault it… I used my own little pump on it, so haven’t used the built in pump yet, but a nice back up idea, the raised pillow part is great, I did find that only filling it at 70% was so much more comfortable, it feels flat until you lay on it, then the air evens out and supports your body perfectly. it did move about a bit, so I’m putting it in a sleeping bag liner that acts as a sheet and stops it drawing less heat from your body I was told.
Great bed wider so comfier only issue that tiny small bag it comes in only a machine could get it back in that needs changed mine ripped first time trying to get back i
I tried tried the orange bobbly mat first and found it very uncomfortable. Then I tried the trekology UL80 mat which is longer but narrower and thinner than this UL140. This mat was so much better than the others I tried even though it’s 5cm too short for my 190cm height because it has a built in pillow. This pillow makes a HUGE difference in comfort and is just the right height when you add a travel pillow or jumper under your head. It’s wider than the UL80 as you can see in the photos which means the back of your arms don’t lay on the cold floor if you lay on your back. Side sleeping is very comfortable with no contact with the floor by the hips even at 110kg.
The one gripe is that I don’t know why trekology made this mat 5cm shorter than the UL80? If they had just kept the length the same it would have been perfect for us taller people. As it is, I can cope with mat being a little short because everything else works well.
Comfy as hell, easy to inflate and deflate, very durable. Not very slippery, unlike others, the raised sides and extra width is a godsend and doesn’t seem to make any difference to size and weight.
Best I’ve found so far, sleep on it just as well as my own bed
This is the best sleep mat I have ever used. A little bit more bulky but well worth the extra weight. The only negative is rolling it up to put it back in it’s sack but I’m sure that I will get used to it. Also, be aware that when you lie down on it you will not want to get up and you will probably go straight to sleep.!!!
This mat is perfect even for us wild campers ,,, I read about people saying its difficult to inflate.
Total rubbish, it takes me 60 seconds to inflate.
Ok its a slightly heavier that other mats but its well worth carrying that bit of extra weight
It is the most comfortable mat I’ve ever used….100% recommend
I have just used this on a backpacking trip. The comfort is excellent. On the negative side it took a long time to inflate. It says 3 to 5 minutes but in practice I found 7 to 9. Also I could never get it rolled back up to the original size so is a bit bulky and not the lightest. However once inflated it does not go down over night and is very comfortable.
Even though this doesn’t have an R value or claim to be insulated i thought I would give it a try on a wild camp near summit if great whenside in early March. We had wind chil of -4c and hail but the mat kept me comfortable in my tent. I admit I could feel the cool floor though the mat but it wasn’t an issue and the thickness meant I got a good night sleep. Would be ideal for summer camping but I would use down to 0c with a decent sleeping bag. Only downside was using pump in a small 2 person tent wasn’t easy and pumping up outside tent on wet ground with high winds and low temperatures wasn’t an option. I am over 20st and it supported me well with no deflatio
It’s comfy for sure, and easy to inflate, but be careful. This is not suitable for anything much below about 4 or 5 degrees c. I have used it a few times around freezing and regretted it.
I purchased this inflatable mattress for my grandson to use when he came to stay with the rest of the family. He is 20 years old and a big lad and he sleped on it for two nights with a sleeping bag. He said that it was very comfortable, but added that it squeaked through the night as he moved.
The first night was amazing! Really comfortable although I needed to hold onto a tree to pump it up.
Also the flap kept covering the hole so I had to tape it back! Not an easy job in the forest wild camping.
Do not sleep close to the fire!
Little pieces of wood sparks hit my bed and now it doesn’t work.
Not a fault with the air bed though. I will be buying another one and can recommend it.
Pro’s: easy to inflate with built in pump ( once you get the process right)
Very comfy, reasonable pack size , great price.
I’ve taken it on a wild camp in Yorkshire dales and it performed really well. It’s an equivalent pack size and weight to my sea to summit extreme mat but a quarter of the price!
Cons: hard to repack till you get the nak. Start at the pump end and roll it tightly to the othe end, close the deflate valve, unroll and quash all the air out of the pump. Fold in both sides and keep your weight on the mat as you roll it up. Open the deflate valve as you get near to that end. Done!
Overall I’m pleased with it.
Would be better if the mat didn’t have the pillow feature and an option to not have the pump as I have my own pillow and pump and that way the mat would be lighter and smaller pack size.
Comfy sleep mats , we will see over the test of time , but pleased with them over a long weekend better than my last ones
Used this last night and it’s very comfortable, wide enough, long enough and I slept very well, I will definitely need a thermal barrier underneath as the weather gets colder.
However, it is frustratinly difficult to pack back into its cover, so I just put it in the zip lock bag it was shipped in, i don’t know why company’s continue to supply items where it is very difficult to repack once you have used it!
The valve cover is really annoying, as you inflate the mattress the cover folds back on the valve and prevents the self inflation foam drawing in air, if you want to inflate you have to do it by hand and hold the valve cover back or use an elastic band and stick to prevent the cover from folding back over the valve, not ideal!
If it wasn’t so comfortable I’d be sending it back!
Nice and comfy plus a good width.
Cons: (personal preferences).
The built in pillow. I’m an arm under pillow sleeper, they should ditch the pillow and leave it flat as most people have their favourite pillow anyway!, I sleep the wrong way round now, feet on pillow.
Foot pump. They should ditch it and include a pump sack as it doubles up a a pouch for it or use an mini electric portable pump for it (I do).
Just personal niggles, other than that a good comfy mat!
I challenge anyone to get it back into the bag once opened! Why they didn’t just give us a oversized bag I don’t know. As you’ll probably know already, this is not small or lightweight, but ideal for my motorbike camping trip. Worked absolutely fine for 6 nights camping, although having so much air underneath you is never going to be too great in really cold weather. Built in pump worked well and is good to not have another thing to carry around with you.
Used this for the first time Bank holiday weekend attending a festival. Simple to inflate, think I had to add a little bit more air after the first night but other than That remained sufficiently inflated for the remainder of the weekend. So comfy. I’d forgotten to take an additional pillow but turned out it wasn’t needed as the head support was more than sufficient, in fact woke every morning with no stiffness in my neck which is most unusual for me. I’m 5′ 10 and was more than big enough. Highly recommend
The value lid keeps shutting when pumping so couldn’t do it by foot, had to do by hand on my knees so I could keep the valve open. They rustle like a bag of crisps if not fully inflated but they were easy to let some air out to adjust to a comfy firmness. They seemed comfy but still woke aching, think that’s just me not the fault of the mattress though.
Kept their firmness for 3 nights, deflated and packed easily although the bag is rather too tight so left that bit until we got home. Will be keeping for 1 nighters with the motorbike as they are super light, small when packed and quite wide and reasonably comfy if you aren’t an arthritic old fart like me.
Pros:- much more comfortable than my other sleeping pad that was twice the price. Its huge!
Cons (ish):- remember the huge part well 2 of these side by side fill a 3 person tent so bare that in mind married to your tent size. I’m not so sure about the side sleeping part, definitely more comfortable on your back as you are really only sleeping in the middle, this is reflected in the built in pillow as it also has a an indentation in the middle. Be prepared for how noisy these are, think lilo in a swimming pool. The built in pump is good in theory but it pushes out so little air that you belong to lose the will to live!
Kudos to trekology as I had a leak in one of them & they replaced it straight away.
Absolutely super comfy, sturdy and reliable. I am…a big lass… and its definitely true its perfect for side sleepers! Very comfortable to lie on, felt sturdy and the pressure was equally distributed throughout.
I used it for a 5 night festival and it only needed a small top up of air once. The R factor isn’t determined yet but I think its easily a 4 or 5, I was so warm and cozy. Didn’t slip around even though its not a flocked surface. No squeaky noises when turning over. Excellent size for comfort, even if you’re a bit long or wide.
It loses points because the footpump is awkward snd doesn’t work well, and in the end I just used an external footpump and my breath to top it up. It’s also v awkward to smush the footpump back down to pack away. It’s quite heavy still for its size, so doesn’t get full marks for lightweight or packability. Can pack down very small though so does work well for a solo traveller.
Would recommend, very worth the money!
This product arrived in less than 24hours! Amazing! I’m using it to go camping with this weekend so will update on Monday however, so far so good! Pretty lightweight, but strong, although I haven’t been able to get it back in the small bag it came in, only the larger plastic bag. It blew up in around 4 mins using my foot, but I ended up letting out some air for a softer feeling bed.(both pictures included) I’m 5ft 3 and it felt pretty huge! I’m optimistic for this weekendwatch this space!
Excellent item if comfort is more important than minimalist camping. Not super-light nor super-small but still just within the bounds of hiking if you find other beds/mats leave you achy and tired the next morning!
The built in air pump works well so long as you work the valve correctly ie keep the hole covered when pressing down and keep it clear as it inflates again, just like doing cpr!! It’s easy enough to get back in the bag too – just deflate the pump first after opening the pillow end stopper, fold the sides tight over the pump and roll tightly to the pillow end before replacing the stopper! Easier than most self inflating mats and much more comfortable with room to side sleep without your knees or bum hanging off!
Side beams mean you don’t feel like your constantly about to fall off and the smooth surface allows you to turn over with ease.
I don’t like beds with built in pillows but that’s just me, I much prefer a flat surface with a small pad or jacket under my head – this one is not too bad but I will probably use it the wrong way round next time with my feet on the pillow.
I think it will be important to ensure there is nothing sharp under this bed and to carry a repair kit just in case – just as you should with any inflatable of course! Not sure about the R rating either – but a roll mat or other insulator under it if it gets really cold or in winter should keep this warm and cosy and still give you a wonderful nights sleep!
All in all I love it – I’m getting older and ground sleeping was becoming a bit of a dread but this really makes a difference. I’m sure the UL140 will extend my camping years by many – thank you Trekology!!
The built-in foot pump works well enough but only in a tent you can stand up in – even then, you need a Zimmer frame to stop yourself falling over. A better option would be a pump sack or a small electric pump (I use the Flextrailgear Tiny Pump which inflates this large mat in about three minutes). The mat is good and thick (about five inches) with an R-rating of five. It is wide enough for side-sleepers and its roll-edges prevent you from sliding off in the night. The built-in pillow is OK but if you like your pillow soft, bad luck: you can only deflate the whole thing, not just the pillow. That foot pump makes it difficult to fold up the mat and get it back into the sack provided. It can be done but not my me – I put mine into a 5-litre dry bag. It is a very comfortable design for a fidget-arsed sleeper like me but to be honest, I think they could lose the pump and the pillow and let users pick their kit. Being wide, it is no light-weight; wild campers might just get away with it but back-packers should avoid it for something lighter though less comfy. For a car camper like me, it’s ideal.
We have tried air beds, self inflating air mats, roll mats, for the pack size to comfort this is worth every penny. sleeping with a built in pillow took some getting use to. It is allot warmer than any airbed and thicker than anything else we have tried.
I’m a heavier (OK… fat) side sleeper. I bought this because of its thickness and its width. I have to say I have not been disappointed. It was supremely comfortable and stayed well inflated without the need for ‘topping up’ over several nights.
Using the footpump does take a bit of getting used to and my only grip is that the valve plug likes to plus itself in at times… but this can also be inflated using a pump on the valve on the back of the head of the mat. But even using the internal footpump it’s a matter of minutes.
Folding it does require a little patience but, once you have the knack it’s easy.
This is a little bit wide for my main backpacking tent (I’ll have to tick with the Aplkit Cloudbase or Dumo) but the perfect fit for my bikepacking tent and the larger tent used for car based stays.
I’d thoroughly recommend this mat if you’re looking for a bit of comfort without a ridiculous weight penalty.
To start with this is a great sleeping pad. However, it does have it flaws. I’ll start with the good, it’s very comfortable and it’s very thick so it keeps you well off the ground without bottoming out. It keeps you off the cold and I’ve not had any problems retaining heat. It inflates very quickly and doesn’t leak any air. Now the not so good. The built in foot pump just isn’t great. The lid folds over so you have to prop it open while pumping it which is very awkward. Also, because of the pump when you’re folding the bag away it stops you folding it tightly and small and causes the pad to buldge a lot more than normal. The sack it came with is useless honestly just throw it away, mine ripped after the second time of using because the footpump just stopped me rolling it up small enough to get it back in. Do yourself a favour a but a different bag to put this instead of using the one trekology supply. I would however recommend this pad and have done to my friends. Just be aware of the slight down sides to it.
I bought the UL140 to try and deal with a problem I have with my other camping mats. I’m a side sleeper, my other mats aren’t wide enough for me to lay on them without either my bum or my legs hanging off them. Case in point is with my Thermarest NeoAir Xtherm mat. It’s coffin shaped so isn’t good for side sleepers like me. I’m 6ft and 16 stone so I’m not small by any measure.
I’ve heard two complaints about the UL140 mat in other reviews, the first being the weight and the second being the time it takes to inflate the mat. I think some of the complaints are unwarranted.
The weight of this mat is very obviously going to be more than the likes of the NeoAir Xtherm mat or other lightweight mats, it’s bigger, therefore using more materials. The weight and pack size aren’t a problem for me, I want the comfort this mat offers!
To inflate the mat using the built in foam pump took me no more than a couple of minutes, by using my foot on it. I have an Exped mat that came with a foam pump and that takes about the same amount of time to pump up So again I think some reviewers are being unfair or they aren’t getting the technique down.
My overall opinion on the Trekology UL140 is that it’s a great product. The pricing means it isn’t going to break the bank, unlike some other mats. The mat feels and looks well built, is the most comfortable camping mat I’ve slept on, by a country mile too. When I say that I don’t say it lightly either. I’ve tried many mats too.
Bought it on the back of YT reviews and very pleased with it.Comfy and easy to inflate with the built in pump. Took 35 pumps approx to inflate firmly. There’s a deflation valve at the other end that could be used to inflate with a pump sack. Not had chance to properly try it out camping to give it a true test
The downside is the weight(1.35kg) if you’re backpacking and trying to pack it away in its carry bag.Struggled with the first attempt. The key is to start at the pump end. **Fold the edges of the material inwards to match the width of the built in pump, then roll tightly and evenly KEEPING THE WEIGHT OF YOUR KNEES on it to keep it compressed**When folded, pop the elastic strap over it…I found it goes into the carry bag a lot easier with this method. There was no repair kit also.
Would recommend
Very happy with this purchase. Having owned the UL80, Thermarest Neoair Xlite and now this, on first thoughts this is by far the most comfiest but admittedly the heaviest. Conclusion: will be used for summer due concerns with the R value rating and will be too heavy and a large pack size for winter use. The perfect pad for summer if you don’t mind the weight. I’m 6’0 and able to lay on my side with one leg straight and the other one raised, comfortably.
I purchased the ul140 for family camping and is an ideal purchase if you want a good sleep. The integrated pillow isn’t to my taste but good. The integrated pump is a bit slow to use but does the job. I would rather loose this feature and save on the weight. Overall fits my needs but not if you think this is a newer version of the ul80 as its much heavier.
Awesome product. Well designed, durable and extremely comfortable. It’s huge.
Easy to inflate to your desired comfort with the built in pump. Packs away easily, although it’s a tight fit in the accompanying bag (easily fixed by using another bag ).
I’d question the reported R-value of 5, and have yet to test this out.
If you can justify the additional weight then this is a great mat offering a 5* sleep. Highly recommend.
