Like stated in many other reviews here, it does take a fair bit of tweaking to get this monitor completely dialed in. But once I got everything adjusted, the picture quality is actually quite excellent!
I think where this monitor has a “problem” is probably in its application. Most of us are probably using this as a second/backup monitor for our 17.3′ laptops. And comparing this to my Dell XPS 17 with it’s beautiful 4k infinity touch screen really isn’t fair. Of course, this monitor will fall short. For a real comparison I would need to purchase a portable 17.3″ 4k panel. And currently those are running almost 3X the price. At this price point, this monitor is perfectly adequate as a secondary/backup/travel monitor.
The single cable for power and video, size, and weight and reasonable brightness make this a great travel monitor.
Monitor works as intended. I wanted a 5-display setup at work, so I got 2 of these portable monitors and separately got a Thunderbolt USB-C to dual HDMI adapter.
I like that the monitor sits low. It comes with an adjustable metal kickstand and a nice placemat holder, so you have options for positioning. Resolution is good, not great. When I change the Windows display setting to 100%, the taskbar icons and any open applications appear a little small.
Otherwise, I am extremely pleased with this purchase!
i had returned another monitor 1080p 17in just a little less… that monitor had better build quality with a built in stand n aluminum chassis. BUT its all about the screen … that one i could tell the diff between red, orange n pink
this monitor is good esp for the price 2K n color is good… i would get another one
I was delighted how as soon as the USB-C cable was connected the screen was detected and ready for use. That was it – zero fuss.
The case is good to protect when not in use and is thin enough to be stored alongside a laptop.
As something to increase my productivity when on a laptop it has unobtrusively achieved it.
This monitor is just the perfect size for a second monitor to use with my laptop.
Excellent resolution, brightness, graphics and color.
Connection options are awesome and works great.
Love the stand that comes with it and also the cover.
Takes up a lot less room on my desk than the monitor.
I have absolutely no complaints.
Instructions is a lot better than most. It did take me a while to figure out how to use the controls to change settings.
Crazy good. I wasnt expecting such a good image quality. Even the color accuracy out of the box is really good.
Unfortunately the build quality is lacking. Feels a bit cheap and too much plastic.
I’m using it on my desk permantly, so its not that big of an issue for me.
So be aware that it is not so suitable to take with you.
And the big branding on the monitor is kinda annoying.
I tried to find a small second monitor for my desk but couldn’t find anything less than 24″. So instead, I went for the portable monitor. The quality is surpringly good. Not top of the line, but certainly good enough to supplement my main monitor. And bonus, when I go out, I can use it as a second monitor for my laptop – only caveat is that you need to plug it in, but that’s not usually a big deal.
My manager told me to pick one of these up for working on the go. I was skeptical at first, but I love this monitor. It comes with every cable you can imagine to hook up to your laptop, your switch, whatever you need. It’s super light and comes with a case like an iPad. Love this thing. The quality far surpassed my expectations.
Does what it does. Works well. Provides a second screen for when I’m traveling. It’s not the greatest picture, but it truly works for its intended purpose.
This monitor works great for general for document viewing. How ever I have found that the color isn’t that great when trying to adjust it to the main laptop, or to another monitor that is the previous version to the 2K model.
I needed a second screen to code, design website and graphic design. This 17 inches portable monitor is the perfect size for all my needs. I brought it at School, its lightweight. I connect it with usc-c, its so simple. This 2k resolution is WOW, bright and colorful.
I need a second monitor for my Mac studio set up. 17.3″ monitor is the perfect size.
Overall it feels good. I felt it was a little more pricey than the others but you are actually paying for a good choice of settings to calibrate screen.
My only (very) minor criticisms are there is no power button and I would prefer not to have a logo on the front.
Using it as a 2nd monitor for a Microsoft Surface Go 2 powered by a USB PD source and a pass-through USB PD hub that’s equipped with an HDMI jack.
Here’s my hub: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B09TZLNWM9
Here’s the USB PD source for the hub: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B003FOOY32
I was surprised and pleased that I can power the Bimawen’s USB-C PD port from one of the hub’s USB 3 ports. After delivery I found that, according to one of the Q&A’s here answered by “Bimawen official”, the USB 3 port only needs to supply15 watts (3A at 5V). I was prepared to supply more like 40 watts. However, I will say I’m confused how much additional power I’m chewing up running the external HDMI- if I ever figure it out with a power meter I hope to post it here.
There’s a way to get the cables to not stick out…
Here’s my 180-degree mini-HDMI connector https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B09NBV8FB9
Here’s my 180-degree PD-compatible connector https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B0B6ZL5RRC
Those connectors made for a cleaner build. I am using the mini-HDMI cable that came with the unit. I supplied my own USB cable so can’t comment about the one in the box yet.
Between the lower cost HD units and the higher cost 4K units, this 1440p resolution display hits the sweet spot on price-performance, at least for me. Also, now that I’ve experienced 1440p on a 17″ display, I doubt there’s that much value in a 4K display that’s only 17″, so I’m glad I didn’t spend more. These pixels are small and images are fine. Depending on how you set your onscreen text scaling, you can make text that’s ridiculously small but still readable if you like.
There is a review on YouTube with a unit that looks like it has the exact same packaging, same 1440p resolution, and otherwise looks like this one. The reviewer liked the unit. But out of the box, the one on YouTube was somewhat dim and colors were off until he spent time adjusting the brightness and other settings. Since I’m not planning to use it for desktop publishing I can’t speak to the color gamut and such. But as for brightness, I find the Bimawen display was bright enough out of the box.
I plugged it into my 2021 MacBook Pro and it worked immediately. It is fully powered by the same usb cable that supplies the video. I’m very happy about not having to mess around with more cables. Looking at the Mac and Bimawen screens side by side, the Bimawen is pretty damn good. No bleeding. It shows more detail in picture shadows than even the Mac’s monitor. The Bimawen does look a tad muddy and is not quite as bright. The manual is honest in that it tells you this type of monitor, liquid crystal, is subject to fading if left on too long. You might want to scale down from the 2k resolution when working with text.
I use it as my 2nd monitor for my work laptop when travelling. It is light and comes with a handy stand. The size of the screen is bigger than my laptop and I am glad I went for a bigger screen. It can be plugged in, but for power I have it connected to my laptop. Less wires to carry.
Screen is sharp and bright. But 2k at 17″ is really small. Realllly small. The cover is the the cheapest plastic you could come up with. Almost seems like throw away. I’m not sure why they would not spend $1 more and make a good cover. The VESA mount is sketchy – it warns you that if the screws are too long it will damage the screen. What the heck!
Overall: would spend more for the a similar device with a built in stand. For the price point they are a decent product.
Experience: owned 2 for about 3 months, used on 3 different trips at 5 different locations, total usage over 200 hours for Cybersecurity work efforts
The good:
comes with all connection cords
Power pass through so you can plug a USB – C power cord into the monitor PD port then connect to a laptop thunderbolt port and the laptop will be powered
2K at this size is plenty sufficient in my experience for extensive Excel spreadsheet usage and other use cases where resolution can make a big difference. I don’t regret getting 2k instead of 4k at all
Zero connection or compatibility issues across an HP and Dell work laptop or my personal Dell laptop
The neutral:
the screen has controls for brightness, contrast, and so on but the picture quality isn’t remarkable or unacceptable. It’s just ok.
The bad:
The stands suck and aren’t built in. I haven’t found any vesa mounts that would still allow the screen covers to be used in transport. The monitors have to essentially sit flush to the desk vs elevated taking up desk space. You can’t achieve a flat angle.
The speakers exist but nearly any laptop speaker will be better, probably most phones too.
Now I have a second display no matter where I go.
17 inch is the largest I can carry in my bag.
Full HD is not enough for my work (multiple windows, code editing). 2K is perfect. Any higher resolution will make the characters too small to read for my type of work.
Given the price, it delivers more than what I expected.
I need two screens for my daily work and was having to do frequent travel while still working. Lugging around a second desktop monitor with my laptop is not feasible. This lightweight portable monitor solved the issue. I’m actually able to fit both the laptop and the monitor in my bag along with all the cords and wireless keyboard/mouse.
Slo lo conecto al usb-c de la Mac y listo una segunda pantalla para trabajar.
I’m not prone to writing Amazon reviews, but this product deserves one. The size and quality of this portable display is stellar–even when powered by USB-C. The stand is really good. The screen itself is very bright and sharp. All-in-all, it definitely exceeded my expectations.
I use this for work not gaming. Worked seamlessly on usb-c with both my hp and MacBook. Not sure why other reviewers complain about the cover not holding up the monitor mine works fine. It is easy to put the cover upside down in which case it will not work. There is also a separate small support but I have not used it.
I really like the monitor. I bought it to use for remote work and for spreadsheets. It works great at a second monitor. Like advertised, it has a speaker built in. I just wish I could adjust the brightness on the monitor but otherwise I’m very happy with it. I bought it during a lightning deal and it’s been more than worth it.
Very impressed with the HD quality of the monitor. Easy to connect to phone or computer. Highly recommend.
Bought one for work. It worked so well we bought another one.
Item arrived on time. It was easy to connect it to my laptop. But the monitor had a vertical stripe in different colours, on the left side of the screen, running from top to bottom and wide about 2cm or 1″. I wanted to attach a photo of it to my review, but heic form is not supported. Long story short – I had to return the monitor. The return process was easy, I just dropped it at the closest Purolator centre. I was refunded the same day.
I’ve updated the review from two to five stars because the seller kindly sent a new monitor that works well and is exactly what I need. And all of that for free. At the end, two stars became five stars. Well deserved – thank you!
Love picture, only complaint is the stand, it’s a big small
This monitor was fairly easy to set up and the picture is fantastic and so is the size. Light weight and comes with a cover and stand. The only thing you will need (if you have a Microsoft Surface Pro) is an adaptor for the mini port on the Surface Pro. As the monitor comes with an HDMI to Mini HDMI that attaches to the monitor.
Purchased a few months ago and has served me well travelling and remote working. I never write reviews but since this is a newer company/product I had to voice my thumbs up!
Picture quality is quite good and adjustable. And it comes with all the cables you’ll need!
Build quality is decent — some plastic as expected but has come out unscathed from several crammed suitcases.
Despite the connection type or device to which it is connected, the product simply reads ‘no signal’ and then goes into power savings mode. No device will recognize it.
It’s a very portable monitor. It also good for your eyes. love the way it looks comes with the very nice case.
So fast delivery and working good. After I order it, I got it in couple days. And easy to setting and light weight. I connected it to my Mac Mini and Window OS in bootcamp, the both are work good.
