First – Product arrived quickly. Packaging was good and robust. Product arrived in good condition with no damages.
Second – Set up was very quick and easy and intuitive. I downloaded the mobile app and set it up from there. No issues.
Third – Strength signal and area coverage are quite good. The signal even extended beyond 3000 sq feet from device.
Fourth – Have been using it for a month now and so far so good!

    Pros:
    – Great performance: My main router is upstairs and performs great as I get the full 400mbps down, 20mbps up from my provider. The secondary router is downstairs and still performs well, getting 300mbps down, 20mbps up. However, it does not perform as well as the main router.
    – Lots of features available
    – Powered via USB-C, which is a suprising benefit for simplicity and versatility.
    – Looks modern and fits well in the house.
    – OpenWRT, for the consumers whom it matters to, is a huge bonus vs traditional router management options

    Cons:
    – One feature that’s lacking is the amount of ethernet ports. The router only has one LAN port for each of the routers which is slightly disappointing, but not a dealbreaker. An ethernet switch was sufficient.
    – Not the simplest set-up
    – Still a little pricey, but fair considering other mesh systems are more expensive.

I’m very happy with this mesh system and it definitely performs better than having just one router for the whole house. A mesh system like this one is a must buy for larger houses.

First of all, I am not a tech savvy person at all, so to give this mesh wifi band a 5 stars, this is indeed an awesome product. I currently have a mesh wifi at home, but after setting it up, I can not use all of my smart plugs because of the conflict between 2.4ghz and 5 ghz, so I decided to upgrade my current mesh system by this one. The reason I chose this because I read on the review and it said this one is one of the most secure wifi routers out there and it can block ads. Having kids and myself using Wifi almost all day I need a system that is safe and protect our system from being hacked or scammed ads.
I appreciate that the set up is user friendly for someone like me, who don’t even know what different between each usb types, can do it by myself. The box is cute with a sleek, modern and stylish design modem, power adapter and cables. I download its apps called Glinet, and it is such a nice app to follow along. I don’t understand much about VPN or how mesh wifi does, but my house now have wifi with strong signal every where even far from the modem. I use to have a problem that no wifi in my bedroom which is far away from the modem in the living room, it is now fixed. And the most important thing is I can use all my smart plugs 2.4Ghz again and connect those to Alexa for my children. They are all happy to use Alexa to turn on/off the light, or do thing in the house again. They keep asking me how did I do, and I will keep this secret for myself. I feel proud of myself first time ever to set up the mesh wifi for the house by myself. This one compared to my old one is cheaper, so thumb up because it’s a lot better. I am glad I got this for my house.

Great wireless routers! We ordered the 2pk to cover our 3200sq ft. and they didn’t disappoint. Not only do they have great coverage, they are easy to set up, reliable, and safe. We have had these set up now for a little over a month and we are are very happy with them.

The shipping was fast and it came on time. I had my wife program this off the computer and she said it wasn’t to bad at all. This is the first time we have ever had to do that. I have been using the same router that we started with several years ago. It seemed to be slow so figured we would try something different. We have been using this WiFi router for a couple months now and everything is still working good. Here is a list of what we have connected through WiFi. 8 security cameras, doorbell camera, 3 cell phones, 3 TV’s with 2 being on at the same time watching streaming apps, 3 tablets, and my sons PlayStation 4 which he doesn’t play online games. I may have left a few things out but that’s what I can think of right now. Everything seems to be running fast. I especially like have 2 routers connected. I have one downstairs in my house with is the main router with the second being upstairs in our bedroom. The router I have upstairs really helps with the TV’s we have up there. Before they were super slow because of the WiFi. In all this seems to be a great system and I would definitely recommend based on the price point and what I’ve see.

A bit of a challenge to install and configure, but once going works great. Have better coverage than ever right now.

This router is pretty good in my home. The range could definitely be better, as using a single unit doesn’t cover my house even though it should blanket the area. Using the second node helps with this issue, as expected with a mesh setup. I like the design of the router, as it looks different from standard routers on the market. It was easy to setup and I am able to max out my gigabit internet speeds with it on multiple devices.

Appearance: These are a couple of wedge-shaped mesh system wireless routers. They are actually pretty nice looking on a shelf or a desk when you compare them to other routers that are basically just a square box on your desk.

Assembly & Installation: Pull the routers out of the manufacturer’s packaging and start hooking things up for the initial setup.

To my surprise, these are running Open-WRT! I found the GL app didn’t always find the routers on the initial setup. I also found the app to be very rudimentary for the control of the systems. The best place to continue setting these routers up is via the web-interface (if you’re comfortable with that).

If you’re doing ANY kind of advanced configuration, or have ANY other devices already in place on your network, you’ll want the advanced setup interface (again, if you’re comfortable with that).

TIP: I don’t know if it was just me, but every time I setup a guest network, my devices would stop working completely! I must have reset and set these routers up 30 times playing with settings (I know DD-WRT very well, but not OpenWRT). I found the interface to be poorly implemented and confusing. I don’t know if that’s OpenWRT, or GL’s theme/skin, but it wasn’t the best experience. Just take your time and be aware.

Thoughts: I was pleasantly surprised with these routers. Although I ran into some issues with the setup, once everything was set up to my liking, all is working very well. 5/5

    Overall: Nice Routers!

The biggest problem, with most routers anyways, is where it’s made. You can clearly see where this one is made. So despite being OpenWrt pre-installed, which is great. There’s always the chance something’s built directly onto the chipset that makes that worthless. You’ll never know, I’ll never know. Is that better than buying a brand name router made in the same place? I’m not sure, there are arguments to be made either way. Maybe this company is more trustworthy, maybe the big brands have better quality control and checks/balances. Such is life in the era we live in. Onward to the AdGuard feature, really cool, but you have to pay an annual subscription. It is cheaper than say an Eero+ subscription, but you also get less features and it seemingly worked less better. Overall it’s a fine mesh network that works well, has desirable features for privacy concerned, app is pretty good, but like a lot of affordable IoT these days, it concerns me.

Arrived nicely packaged. This tri-band mesh system works extremely good for me. I had a couple of dead spots throughout the house and once I installed these the issue was resolved. I get super high speeds and the signal never drops out. Installation is pretty straightforward and easy to use. I know there are some ax units out there but for me this one does the job extremely well. So far so good. Overall a good product that works as described.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersMy team just rented and moved into a new apartment close to our new movie location. We needed a device to extend the Wi-Fi network and eliminate any Wi-Fi dead zones. The GL-B2200 (Velica) Tri-Band Wireless Mesh Route has done wonderfully well with functionality, speed, and security. More than ten devices connect to the two-piece AC router at a time, and it gives pretty good coverage for the three-bedroom apartment. It is one of the safest and most customizable Mesh Wi-Fi networks I’ve ever used. We have no worries about compromising the network security, privacy, and reliability of the mesh network.

This wireless mesh router is a user-friendly device that delivers robust and consistent connectivity to the entire house. It was easy to set up with GL.iNet App, and we were able to build a reliable mesh network. It supports an open platform that is customizable for different scenarios to secure all devices connected to it. The OpenVPN and WireGuard keep the internet connection private with multiple VPN protocols support. It comes with pre-installed OpenWrt and an open-source operating system that provides the safest coverage with customizable technologies. I recommend it for a fast, stable, and secure home Wi-Fi network.

This GL-B2200 (Velica) Tri-Band Wireless Mesh Router, 400Mbps (2.4G) + 2x867Mbps (5G), OpenWrt is one of the best mesh router setups that I’ve tested including most of the entry level mesh setups from the big players in the segment.

My absolute favorite aspect of this product is the inclusion of the powerful open-source firmware OpenWrt. This alone sets this apart from the competition and adds an exceptional amount of depth for those who need it, but it will also allow for the simple setups that most of the non-IT crowd will desire.

Performance was great in a 2-story condo, with the main mesh router going in the office at one end of the condo upstairs, and the other one installed downstairs centrally near the sliding door to the backyard. Haven’t experienced any dropouts since I’ve been using these, and the wireless performance has been stellar although with Apple devices occasionally it won’t swap over to the better node right away which is annoying but is an issue with Apple devices and not this product.

Overall, this is one of the best entry level mesh networking products that even competes with the much more expensive offerings on the market. The power of OpenWRT is what sets this product apart and gives it so much depth. 5/5 stars.

I initially tried to set this pair of Velicas up using the ethernet interface. I got one up and running with no issue but setting the second up as a mesh for the first required a bit more thinking than I was willing to do so I opted to install the app. On android I used the light blue glinet app. I reset the routers (pin press and hold forever until the lights go out) and the app found them with no issue. I put them on either side of the house. I shut off 2.4Ghz since I have a network up for iot things that doesn’t need more interference.

Coverage is great and the signal is there in every room. However, while the strength is there, the throughput is not. I don’t have anything on this network at all and tested it with an amazon fire tablet playing prime video. It stuttered and stopped too much to be usable. This is all over the house. On my old TPlink AP I do not have this issue.

I gave it a day to settle and tried again. Still stutters. Switching the router to a different network gets rid of the stutters so it’s the network. I rebooted the routers and tried again and things went better with no video pauses or spinning circles for a couple of days. It started up again though and I shut the network off. It may have something to do with me limiting these to the 5GHz band.

I’ve had two Wireless Access Points for years which worked pretty well for covering my 2100 square foot house. The problem was that I would often have to turn off the WiFi setting on my iPhone then turn it back on when I moved from the front of my home to the back bedroom in order to switch between routers to maintain a strong signal. I’d been hearing about how Mesh Routers seamlessly switch your WiFi devices between routers as you move between coverage zones so I thought I’d give the GL-B2200 (Velica) Tri-Band Wireless Mesh Router a try.
Installation was quite easy using the free GLiNet App on my iPhone and following the simple step by step instructions. With two GL-B2200 (Velica) routers I now have strong signal coverage throughout my home and backyard and the best part is I no longer have to manually switch between Access Points as I move my WiFi devices around the house and yard. The iPhone App makes it easy to monitor the system as well as make any settings changes. This system also comes with several ways to increase internet security such as OpenVPN and WireGuard pre-installed, compatible with 30+ VPN service providers. Encrypted DNS with Cloudflare. AdGuard Home Supported for blocking ads and online tracking. I haven’t yet had time set these up but I’ll update my review as I find time to learn about and set them up.
I’m very please with this system so far!

I’ve had a couple wifi mesh systems, as I keep switching them out. My original was good, but I decided to upgrade to the “top rated” system at the time and gave away my older system. This “top rated” system runs great, but tries to nickel-and-dime you for every extra feature. I found the GL-B2200 (Velica) Tri-Band Wireless Mesh Router and wanted to see if I could get all of those extra features without the need to pay, since it uses OpenWRT.

OpenWRT is a Linux based operating system for routers. It is extremely powerful, supports cutting edge features, is modular and always updated. This was very attractive to me, since I wanted my router to always stay up-to-date. I have a 15 year old router that OpenWRT still supports, so that’s the type of support OpenWRT strives for — even if GL.iNet vanishes tomorrow.

As this is a tri-band system, it uses a wireless backhaul to communicate between the routers. In simple terms, the mesh routers communicate between each other without affecting the performance of your devices. This allows for peak performance.

Setup was simple and took only about 10 minutes. You plug your modem/router into the WAN port (closest to the Sync button) on the back of the unit using an Ethernet cable, plug in the power adapter to the USB-C port on the back of the unit and it boots right up. Everything is setup using an application downloaded to your phone (there is a barcode to scan to download or search for the app in your app store). It is a guided setup, so it will walk you through everything. That’s really it.

There is so many features that the system supports with even more coming. My favorite is that the OpenWRT web interface is completely intact and full featured. So this system isn’t limited by GL.iNet. As well, the performance of the system rivals my “top rated” that nickel-and-dimed me for every feature.

I’m glad I switched to the GL-B2200 (Velica) Tri-Band Wireless Mesh Router and I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a wifi mesh system.

VPN support, WireGuard OpenVPN overall excellent solution with AdGuard home for ads blocking. Best wifi mesh network due to VPN integration under VPN umbrella to keep you explicit when surfing on web.

USB-C power connection makes it highly universal in case you lose power adapter or goes bad, which will rare to happen.
    Sleek and clean design.
Tri-band system, will block ads networkwide by AdGuard and the VPN umbrella will keep your data to stay as your data as your business is no one else’s business, stay hidden and safe without sharing any footprints online. gl.inet is perfect for this purpose. super simple setup, very small just a hand size, two ethernet ports on each router. each router covers 2000sqft easily, more to give and not to take. with 2 devices i was able to get full coverage for 4500sqft home with two floors and also large backyard gets 2-3 bars signal which is plenty enough for streaming and working from the porch.
you can use OpenVPN but it will decrease your internet speeds as it is open and free. if you use TorGuard with WireGuard protocol you will get your full ISP speeds.
super simple mobile phone application to setup, install, fully configure and monitor all times with remote access thru GoodCloud by gl.inet cloud as well.
WireGuard service providers are all integrated and listed within the app that will seamlessly get you setup in matter of an eye blink, very quick and easy to setup all.
you can enable and disable VPN shield with click of a button, which enabling it will stop your ISP from throttling your internet, causing you more data usage for no reason and pushing ads to your devices without your consent. This is a perfect mesh router system to stop all this infringement. this is my main purpose of using gl.inet velice at home to keep myself and family data, which is a lot of personal information and your interests.
highly configurable, meter and unmetered connection choices, QoS settings, speed limit configuration, WAN, LAN and MAC settings, custom DNS server and multiple user admin access can be also provided for multi admin environments. you can setup favorite clients, block clients and monitor download and upload traffic per client.
DNS settings includes overriding DNS for all clients, using DNS over TLS thru CloudFlare or nextDNS as you have the option to choose or create/build your own. you can DNScrypt-Proxy server as well as manually setting up DNS server for custom DNS settings.
you can turn on and off the router lights on both devices, run speed tests, you can add as many to expand your mesh, select location and determine different configurations per device or per room. you can create your own VPN policies, DMZ settings port forwarding and firewall with a kill switch functionality do disable all internet connection if VPN goes down ever.
Extremely configurable, high strong signal rating with abusively large capacity of coverage, 2 hand sized router covers 4500sqft with ease. Very capable of doing pretty much anything for your network. I am planning to run couple of these for small businesses.

Worth every single penny, this is a top tier, highly flexible and configurable solution to your privacy and security concerns within your network.

Top Solution, Excellent Wireless Mesh Network with OpenWRT and free VPN

I recently replaced my all in one Wifi 6 router with an Edgerouter X flashed to openwrt along with using a separate wifi access point which was only Ac3200. I wanted two big features openwrt offers ad-guard home and a vpn client. Installation is was hardly a breeze involving opening up the edgerouter and hooking up a serial cable to a jtag cable. I’m in the industry and very technically apt but I installing openwrt on most supported hardware is hardly easy..

I got the two node mesh setup, consisting of two GL-2200s. At $200 this setup is a bit expensive for the hardware itself. Without Openwrt I put these as 50 dollar routers. One the other hand openwrt is so immensely powerful and to get it fully supported by a manufacturer adds more than enough value to justify the premium.

Installation is pushed through phone app. I found out I could have done it via browser with a lan connection later. Thankfully it does not require creating an account with GLI-NET you can skip that step. I wish I could say things went seamlessly, unfortunately the first router I pulled out of box refused to connect its wan port to the internet despite multiple hard resets. The second router worked better, but then after resetting the first and trying to connect it as a mesh node it refused to work. I finally got the mesh network up and running but connecting that first router directly to my computer via lan cable, updating the firmware to the latest version, then reverting both routers bad to factory settings and starting the process from the beginning.

The skin over openwrt is clean and well laid out. Features are far easier to understand and better explained than vanilla openwrt, yet you still have the option of getting directly in the openwrt LUCI by clicking “advanced”. I configured both my VPN, Private Internet Access, and found its performance as fast as my desktop. I also configured adguard home and it seems to be working well blocking the worst ads from sites..

Unfortunately wireless performance is slightly disappointing. While not a bottleneck for internet connection (unless you have a gigabit connect and you need to use it all). local file transfers maxed about 35MBS off my home server, my AC3200 and AX3600 both hit about 60MB over wifi. Still the large file transfer is not a massive use-case and it is still fast enough to stream 4k movies easily off my home NAS it really isn’t a massive issue..

Overall for a power user this is wonderfully capable setup. I wish it’s setup went a little better and I hope my experience was just a fluke, I also would love a new model with faster wifi radios but overall I don’t think there is a better setup to get a the amazing capability of openwrt.

An excellent repeater for low power devices that apparently do not have exceptional transmission capabilities like some IoT devices and some less powerful adapters.

The powerful web interface was a bit tricky to find, but I do remember connecting through ethernet on the lan port to 192.168.8.1.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersThis is one of the best FOSS routers available. I have been a fan of GLinet products for a while now and the Velica definitely delivers. It’s sleeker than in the photos. It likely will have software support for the next few years and obviously it comes with openWRT and LuCi preinstalled which is amazing. GLinet products are amazing for the price, you really cannot go wrong.
