I have been trialling this set for a while now for various jobs around the garden, and so far I’m really impressed! I’ve gotten the most use out of the hand tools, the pruners/secateurs, the mini scissors and the carry bag, and I’ve been impressed by all of them.

I’ve used all of the hand tools for digging and potting plants around the garden, using the two trowels the most. They’ve both held up really well. I’ve also used the weeder, a tool I hadn’t used before, and I’ve found it works well on smaller weeds. For bigger, more established weeds, it doesn’t go down deep enough to get most of the root.

I’ve been most impressed by the secateurs, which have had heavy use while I cleared a mass of ivy from the garden. They didn’t stick once, in comparison to another pair of secateurs I used that after a few cuts started to stick.

The bag has been very handy for moving all the tools around the garden, and the mini scissors have been used to prune my houseplants.

If you’re starting out a need a good kit that will cover most bases, I think this is a great option! I’d just moved into my first home and had nothing, but have found I can do all the jobs I need with the items in this kit. I would highly recommend it!

Extraordinary value for a (mostly) high quality set.

The tools are all moulded aluminium and imo the best design of tools for comfort/strength.

The bag is OK, but the outside pockets are really shallow and to hold the tools you need to strap them under the elastic loops which is fiddly. Just bung everything inside!

Secateurs are functional but deffo a bit naff compared to the other tools.
The wee snips, plastic dibber thingies and paint brishes may seem like gimmicks but I’ve found them all truly useful, as well as the seed dispenser (which I actually use for Rootmore powder) and plant labels and wire twine.

The butterflies on sticks are just for decoration, although I used them to support young sweet peas.

Overall, blinding value and quality tools. Recommended.
Would make a great gift (even better if you substituted the secateurs).

This is a very good basic starter set of hand gardening tools for anyone new to the joy of gardening.
Most if not everything that you would initially need to get a patio garden, some window boxes or even a greenhouse going is here and even includes a useful tote bag to keep it all in.
There are at least half a dozen items you would not think to buy, that you will find very useful.
These are not heavy duty tools or necessarily going to last a lifetime but make no mistake, there is a lot here for your money. The only thing I can see you will need to add is a small watering can.
Most of the tools are on the smaller scale so are probably better suited to a ladies or childs hand.
This set will help you or the recipient to work out which tools are going to get the most use and in time are worthy of being replaced with more substantial and expensive items.
I would certainly recommend this item. HTH

This is a really comprehensive gardening starter set, and would make a great gift for anyone who wants to try gardening for the first time, or who hasn’t got much in the way of tools.

Unsurprisingly the tools aren’t top quality, given the price, which at the time of writing is 23.99. But they are remarkably good, and should last for quite a few years if they are treated carefully.

Pretty much most aspects of gardening are covered by this set, except for spades and forks, but there is a full set of hand tools such as trowels, a hand fork, a weeder/transplanter, a useful small set of snips(ideal for cutting flowers or dead-heading), and a pair of secateurs. There are also tools for use with growing from seeds such as a seed sower, a dibber, some tweezers and various other little gadgets. There is also a useful bag to carry all the tools in, and keep them together.

The things that I didn’t like or thought were superfluous are the gardening gloves, which are ok, but the ‘bears claws’ on the one glove are a gimmick and actually make the gloves less useful in my opinion, I am not quite sure why they felt the need to include the plastic butterflies on metal stalks, they are rather twee and don’t contribute to the usefulness of the set. The tiny water spray bottle is far too small to actually be much use, I suspect that will be put away in a cupboard and forgotten.

So, over all I really like this set and it especially useful having the storage bag as well and I think that anyone who was given this as a gift should be very grateful.

This 38 piece garden tool set was a lovely surprise. There is a wide variety of useful tools that are for the most part made of very good quality carbon steel. The tools come in a large, useful, canvass bag that is practical, sturdy and has deep pockets.
There are a couple of items that I would describe as fillers, e.g. the butterflies. They look pretty but have no practical use other than aesthetic.
I would use most of the tools except for the weird gloves. One is a normal gardening glove, the other looks like something Freddie Kruger might wear. I can only describe it as a green glove tipped with heavy-duty plastic claws. I’m not sure what its purpose is for!
This is a great starter kit with a wide range of handy tools, suitable for a small to medium garden. For the price, this set is great value for the money.

Duncurin has been trying out this nice set of gardening tools, courtesy of Vine and Hightingale. Of course, this is an ideal of time to get down to a bit of gardening and when hopefully weeds come out and plants go in. There are a variety of tools and additional items to smooth one’s path back to the garden. Some of these tools and other items will be more useful than others. Thus, I was keen to try out some of the more typical items and to compare them against my more traditional tools still, and somewhat unusually, made in England.
I tried the weeding tool first and although first impressions are that it’s a bit narrow to lift large weeds, it did manage the job with little fuss. Similarly with the trowel and fork. These seem a little light and insubstantial when compared with my more traditional offerings seen in the picture with the wooden handles. Although the items under review were not as comfortable or as aesthetically pleasing as my existing ones, they got the job done and seemed eminently usable although, once again, they are narrower and the blades of the fork much thicker and thus a little harder to pierce the soil with. This extends too to the raking tool set at a 90-degree angle. The planting tool is also a useful addition and will be ideal for planting out.
Other items in the set are squirty bottle, plant tie, plant label and secateurs. There is also a pair of fine snippers and some brushes as well as some plastic tools presumably for setting seedlings. Finally, there is a nice canvass bag for the whole lot to go in and it also has outer pockets so that one’s favourite and most used tools are within easy reach. There was also a pair of strange gloves included, the right one of which had plastic claws over the finger tips that looked like something from a werewolf film and I’m not sure as to how practical they would be versus a bog-standard pair of gardening gloves.
All in all, Duncurin was quite impressed with this set. It doesn’t have the ergonomic design nor quality feel of my usual choice and I suspect too that it won’t have the same longevity — my set is already about 10 years old and still going strong. I thought a set like this would be of most use for those with a small garden or those with a set of window boxes and planters and the person just starting out in gardening. I’ll leave up to the reader whether it’s better to purchase a better-quality set from the outset and hope to use them over many years or opt for the cheaper and almost disposable set as espoused by these items under review.
Please see some pics attached. Many thanks.

This is very much one of those occasions when you have to go in with your eyes open if you buy this gardening set. Thirty eight pieces of equipment are offered for not much more than 50p per unit at current prices which is less than one premium brand trowel would cost these days so you have to be realistic in your expectations. Thus it has to be said the major tools like the trowel, transplanter and fork lack weight and the build quality is not going to give you years of hard, regular service around the garden. However, one must remember there are always lots of people taking up gardening for the first time and many have very limited resources. For such people this kit is great because it gives you so many of the bits and pieces that you need to plant. water and maintain seedlings, houseplants and pots for a very low price. If you go out to buy all these things individually it will be both expensive and time consuming whereas here everything from seed sowers to twine to butterfly decorations for housepalnts to gloves are included plus a bag to store them in-all for less than twenty five quid. As such this is a great gift for any novice or a child who really wants to give gardening a go just don’t expect it last forever.
