Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersVery effective gadget!
At first was a bit annoyed because I thought it came without a hanging chain – but it was hidden inside the spare tubes box – so all was well!
    A good but!

These UV light bug zappers are superb and very reminiscent of the type you used to see in your local butchers or similar stores. The casing of the units is made of metal with plastic covers on the corners to protect them if you were to accidentally knock them over or drop them with a convenient on/off switch on the front top right.

Internally the units feature two UV tubes which serve to attract the bugs, these tubes are surrounded on both sides with a high voltage (2400v) metal grid which virtually disintegrates the bugs as soon as they touch it and in most cases cause them to drop into the removable tray in the bottom of the unit. I say ‘mostly’ as the voltage is so powerful that sometimes the bug is shot out of the unit due to the force it produces. Each ‘execution’ is accompanied by a very audible ‘crack’ as the electricity removes the bug threat. In fact at times depending upon the size of the bug (say for example a blue bottle or moth) you can sometimes get a series of ‘cracks’ as the insect falls down and catches the grid multiple times.

Personally I’ve found the unit to be highly effective at zapping bugs of all sorts as the ‘body count’ clearly illustrates when I empty the tray periodically. It is also highly safe as the electric grid is separated from any being touched by another metal grid a sensible distance from the live one, this has gaps wide enough for bugs, but small enough to prevent most probing fingers. This can be removed when needed to allow you to change the tubes (you get two spare ones provided with each unit) or clean the unit if required. Despite the manufacturers claims not all bugs tend to fall directly into the cleaning tray, on occasion they do tend to get stuck on the electric grid.

In terms of mounting there are small brackets/loops on each side of the top of the units to allow you to hang them from a ceiling or wherever you want to place them using the supplied chain. However this highlights the one fault I can find with these units, simply put the power lead is far too short. If for example you wanted to hang the unit from a ceiling you would need a power socket in the said ceiling as the lead is no more than about a metre long. Same if you wanted to hang it high on a wall, although that is not really recommended as otherwise it defeats the double sided action of the units.

In terms of value for money these are superb, as well as the good build quality, the spare UV tubes and chains for hanging, but you also get two complete sets in the package!

Firstly and most importantly, make sure you tell your Partner to turn OFF the zapper before trying to pick it up and empty it, otherwise you will soon know how it feels to be a fly!
They do work really well, we have a pizza oven at work and we have it hanging on the wall by the food so that we do not get flies trying to get into the fridges, it fills the bottom after a weekend as we are based outside so the flies are impossible to deter so sadly they get zapped.
Just make sure it is out of reach of children.

Insectaway bug zapper is the perfect solution to get rid of annoying bugs on hot summer days.

The nice and small design allows you to put it wherever you want and it will work as you wish. The thing that it comes with two of them in a box with 4 replaceable tubes is a great steal and you can cover a large area in your house.
When the bugs are attracted and zapped, a small pop sound can be heard and they are gone.
The only low side of it is that in some cases you need to pick up all dead bugs around the zapper but the fact they are gone once and for all gives it a big advantage.

This is terrific. It does its job very well! And is very easy to use. They’re quite big, so know the size before you order.

A plea, though. Please don’t use these outdoors on a summer evening as you’ll massacre so many important flies. I really think these are indoor use only when you have flies inside that you need to get rid of, say in a kitchen or restaurant. But on a veranda or in a garden would be a shame because of the damage caused.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersDuring the summer months we tend to get a lot of house flies coming into the house with our doors open and a little dog that mostly does his business in the back garden, lol. When I saw these I thought that they would be ideal to at least rid our home of the worst of them so I ordered them.
On opening, this comes as two identical units with an open front and back so it will catch flies from either direction. Each unit is built to a decent standard and has a mesh to protect the user and pets from the high voltage side of them. As I went to set these up into a position close to our ceiling I realised that the mains cables are only about a meter long so there is no way that it will reach from a home plug socket up to the ceiling. This type of short cable will be fine for shops etc’ that will have mains sockets at eye level but how many houses will have sockets at such a hight.
    Ok, rant over, lol.
I tested these all the same at a somewhat lower level and they do work very well, the UV lights up as soon as they are powered and although I didn’t fancy sticking my fingers in to test the electric rods they do seem to be working and I did hear a couple of zaps whilst testing.
To use these where I want them and safely without using extension leads, I need to rewire them with a longer cable but I just keep thinking why oh why don’t they supply these with a decent length of cable in the first place.
In conclusion, these are nicely made and will do a great job but in the home you will likely need longer mains cables to be able to place them in the best locations.

Big, capable and simple to use. Could do with a longe cable though, as who has mains sockets near the ceiling? I made an extension lead and it now does it’sjob, although the window fly paper catches more small flies.

The bang that goes when one gets zapped is loud but does the trick well and it’s ideal for my sun room.

We’ve had a recent increase in flies, and it’s been so annoying. This will make you jump, as the crack when it kills one can be heard loud and clear. But this does its job beautifully well. There’s no weird annoying humming when it’s on like I’ve noticed with other brands. The fact that you get 2, plus 2 sets of spare bulbs is absolutely fantastic for the money. Would definitely recommend

We already have two 30w bug lights that come on for 5 mins when one of the external doors is opened. Amazing what you can do with smart plugs and door sensors.

These are to replace those. A Key feature of these is that they have the shocking pads on both sides. not just one side like my old ones.

It really makes a difference as it doubles your area of zapping. The zapping bars are also much bigger than normal. more surface area = much more effective.

These are replacing 15W units so just a smaller footprint but do a better job.

    A Win all around

Nice that these can be moved around but the area has to be available and access to a power point.
Have not had much success so far. I think that is down to them competing with both natural light from the windows and the lights in our work kitchen (having to be bright enough to satisfy Health and Safety. We are considering using timers to turn it on before business to clear any stopover bugs and leave on for an hour after closing as well. If troubled by mosquitoes, domestic use may be helpful.
Confused by product description that says not outdoors use then a photo of a garden to suggest where one might use it. We use body sprays and citronella when outdoors in the garden for evenings.

Very impressed. Honestly, much better than expected. Very good value as getting two in the box. Very easy to use, plug in and you’re up and running. The zapper can be free standing or attach the chain supplied to hang, which is really helpful is limited place to stand them.

This set of 2 Insectaway Fly Killer Bug Zappers arrived nicely boxed with user guide, hanging chains and cleaning brush.
Both lamps look and feel well made and of a decent quality.
The measurements are exactly as per listing description.
Lamps are quite compact and light, they are mains powered.

These lamps are powerful – 2400V, 20W UV insect killers.
I like their unique double sided design.
They work well for flies and mosquito.
I have nets in my windows and doors, but somehow insects still manage to get inside.
Lamps are making loud sound for a short time when insect gets inside. It looks like UV light attracts insects.
Both lamps are efficient and work well.
I like that they arrived with spare bulbs, as they are expensive if bought separately.
I had a bad expirience with lamps I had last years as bulbs didn’t last for long, so I’m happy to have spare ones.

Excellent value for money and good quality lamps, so I would happily recommend them.

There are two zappers and plus there are 4 spare bulbs too. Does the job well, and there’s been a marked improvement in the lack of sighting of flying insects. This is a welcome replacement for its chemical equivalent.

One tip is to keep the area darker than this light for a bit of period (in my case I used it in the late evening when all other natural light was gone and the lights I had were set to dim)

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis is a pack where you get a couple of everything, making it really good value. It’s the only zapper I’ve used which comes with a couple of replacement bulbs included. It works well as a zapper with a simple on and off switch to activate it once it’s plugged in. It’s quite large and is very much like one I’ve seen in retail areas such as butchers.

The unit seems well made with no sharp edges. There’s a tray at the base which allows the user to remove fly debris and it’s easy to clean. As a zapper it’s quick and efficient and I’ve found that placed on a windowsill in the kitchen with the window open, it’s doing well at ensuring the food area is free from flies. A competitive price and a quality unit.

Got this for my working shop. It does the job, when I checked the little tray it had a considerable amount of flys inside. They are little nosiy but the satisfying zaaap hear everytime a fly gets caught means one less fly in the kitchen. You can even hear it working at night zapping moths and other unwanted bugs.

These Insectaway Fly Killer Bug Zapper look like those in butchers etc the 20W UV light is great for those months of the year where we seem to be plagued with flying ants. They are light weight and feel flimsy.

Power cable is a bit short if you plan to hang it you will need a socket nearby or use an extension cable.

The “removable hidden tray” is not very hidden it’s a bit of plastic at the bottom that kept falling out.

Price wise not bad for 2 bug zappers and 4 spare bulbs, not seen or heard them kill any flies

Should be placed high and out of reach of children, waiting for its first kill to confirm it works as not killed anything last few days I’ve had it on. W

Seems to be bug season as they got a few flies the other night so does work.

These are definitely ideal for use at home or in light commercial usage and certainly offer very good value for money. In terms of safety they seem pretty good and have a protective screen to avoid accidental contact although I would still recommend that they are placed well out of reach and in the area unlikely to be knocked or damaged. The units themselves include chains so they can be easily hung from walls or from objects I actually tried them out using them outdoors underneath dry overhangs to keep flies et cetera away whilst we were using the fire pit. They did work really well attracting all manner of flying insects and dispatching them quickly.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersWhen I unpacked both zappers to check them up, I noticed that the place where 3pin plug was placed, the bars has been bend, causing small damage, as shown on the photo. One of the zappers has dented inner metal light cage. I lifted it up slightly using screwdriver to make sure it doesn’t touch the light bar when in use. The affected place on the outer grill I straighted up by fingers. The plugs shouldn’t be there at all. I have seen good place on the bottom part of this zapper to put the plug in within the grill bars without causing any damage. Luckily, the bent place is on the back of the zapper, not much visible. So that’s fair enough.

These are the most effective zapper I’ve tried so far. We get 2 zappers plus 4 spare light bars! That’s fantastic that producer thought of the spare light bars as well so we don’t have to look around for new ones at the exactly same size when the old light bars go off for good. The zapper, once installed, has killed a fly instantly. I gave it installed in my garage because flies or mosquitoes like to visit me when I do some work there 😉
I think both zappers with spare light bulbs bars are surely worth the money.
    Highly recommended.

    Fab product, very effective

Products themselves work well, not decent quality but function well.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersThese bug zappers by Insectaway are proper flying-insect zappers, like the ones you might see hanging in a butcher’s or baker’s window, and they offer a lot more bug killing power than many of the cheaper designs. These double-sided zappers can be hung up using the supplied chains or just stood at a height where the insects like to fly — the limiting factor is the power cord is fairly short so you might need an extension lead depending on the location of your mains socket. These lamps use two fluorescent UV tubes, rather than LEDs, which should have a life of up to 3,000 hours each — however, on the plus side you get two replacement tubes with each lamp making a total of eight tubes supplied altogether with the two lamps — two are used in each lamp and are fitted ready to use on arrival. These are excellent bug zappers that really do the job — currently around seventy pounds for two is not bad value considering the performance and spare tubes being included. You could spend less on more attractive LED zappers but I’ve found they just don’t perform as well as these rather industrial-looking ones. These are powerful killing machines so you do need to take a bit of care when using them — especially near children or pets — but if you want to be rid of annoying bitey things then these zappers will do the job; five stars for what is offered at the price.

I have owned different kinds of fly zappers and these two are as good as the best of them.
There is no mistaking that these work because when a fly or other flying object touches the light there is a loud zapping sound. Not a very nice sound but very satisfying.
Keeping flies out of the house is the objective and that is what they do.
They come with four extra lights, so these should last a long time. I recommend this really reasonably priced set of two Fly Zappers as an excellent buy.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersSimple mains operated bug zappers that really work quite well.

I’ve an identical model to these fans that I’ve been using in my bunny shed for a number of years. It’s been faultless operation, and from limited testing these seem to work the same.

Each fan has plastic and metal frames with a 1m mains lead and single on/off button on the front. The 20W elements are quite bright and attract flies much better than portable units which are often only 1/10th the power. Similarly, being around 4kV they are ten times the voltage of portable units too.

If a fly is silly enough to land across the high voltage elements it’s zapped with a loud crack. This can set some dogs off barking or frighten cats if it’s a juicy fly, so be warned. Sometimes bits are left across the elements, and you need to use the supplied small brush to clean them off, otherwise the voltage and hence effectiveness drops off.

There’s a small plastic tray at the bottom to collect debris and it comes out all too easily, so be warned when moving the zapper. It’s a simple solution to empty bugs and wash clean if need be.

There are two holes at the top of the zapper for mounting from a chain (not supplied). My old version did have a chain, and it’s a shame this didn’t. You could thread anything through the loops to hang this up.

Each unit comes with two spare tubes. My old one has only needed one tube replaced in 4 years, running 10 hours a day in the summer and reduced times in the winter, so it’s not bad going and they are comparatively cheap anyway.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThe built quality is good. The size is bigger than my expectations. Seems durable and I expect it to last longer. Using it was simple and straightforward.

It came with 4 extra bulbs as well in the box. Operates quietly and good for getting rid of mosquitos and flying insects.

It arrived well-packaged as shown in the attached photos.
The price is not the cheapest in my opinion.

Overall, I am happy to own it and will recommend it.

Everything in the box was double even the lights were backup that means you get 8 total lights, this suggests thery might either run out quick or they are being very generous for its price tag, but for 70 quid I’m going to go with the latter. I have used UV light before in these devices and I wouldn’t take them lightly, they can be dangerous if missused, and never let children near it the fence behind the gate is electric and will shock.

According to the description this is 365nm UV nanometres, it is considered safe by law but I personally wouldn’t chance being near any UV-light for long periods on a daily basis. Best used like I use it to clear out rooms or kitchen full of flies or moths while I’m not there in front of the UV light.

I wanted something to keep the gnats away at night in my garden now it’s coming up to summer and this seemed ideal.

You get two in the pack and my first impression was that the metal casing and product as a whole didn’t feel the sturdiest. They’re really light, but as long as they work, that’s all that matters to me.

So far so good. I’ve had it out in my garden and I’m definitely getting less bites. There’s a tray at the bottom of the lamp to easily dispose of any bugs after.

Noise wise, it’s completely silent which is great. Not so much as a hum.

It also looks quite nice at night with the blue light shining away and comes with replacement bulbs.

The only downside for me is the fact that it seems quite flimsy and won’t take much to topple over and potentially break. But apart from that, they do the job as expected.

    4 stars.

    Keeps the gnats at bay
