Waiting for the refund because i got faulty product.but there service is good
I bought this product august 2022 it worked wonderfully until last week when one of the HDMI ports stopped working. I reported this to the customer support services at Selore, they suggested some helpful ideas on how to make the product work but to no avail, Selnore customer support then offered to send me a free replacement or refund in full, however, as i had already ordered the same product as a replacement, Selnore customer services refunded my money in full, no hassle at all, thank you you so much.
Just what I have been looking for as has so many uses in one uni
This product is good. I am using it now for over a month. There is still something about it which I don’t like. It is getting hot, so in time that might be a problem. However, I think is good value for money.
Wasn’t too sure it would work with devices I wanted to connect simultaneously, works perfectly and well made, excellent price, very happy
Bought it on a Black Friday deal to add two different monitors to my laptop. Works straight out of the box. Doesn’t provide power but I am using laptop charge
I bought this for connecting a work laptop to an ultrawide (3840×1200) Samsung monitor. It works well with no complaints.
My Alienware M17-R3 laptop has Thunderbolt 3 USB-C 3.1 Gen 2 port with built-in GeForce RTX 2080 Super Max-Q that supports DisplayPort v1.4 and when I plug in a standard HDMI cable into the HDMI 2 port hub that works fine for 4K at 30Hz and is ideal for watching movies but when plug it in the HDMI 1 port hub all I got was a blank screen and found out later that I needed to buy an HDMI/DisplayPort adaptor with USB 2.0 power supply also a DisplayPort/HDMI cable and now I get full 4K in HDR at 60Hz perfect for gaming. The reason for the Thunderbolt hub I needed an extra USB-3 port for my Xbox 4Gb HDD external drive and the speed results are similar to plug into my laptop as to be expected and is useful to be able charge my Xbox controller quickly also the card reader gave me surprisingly results up to 90Mb/sec speed with my SD XC II V60 (60Mb/sec) card. I haven’t tried out the 100W PD port as I don’t own a 100W PD charger plug would be ideal for travelling but at home I’m happy just using the laptop brick power supply. Overall I am very pleased with the quality of the product and for the value.
Got a great price on this and it turned up next day. Use it everyday and makes everything easy to get a
Nice piece, all ports work, does get quite hot though with prolonged use
So far so good. The Monitor link is a bit on off. But otherwise good
Does what you need it to, but can become hot if using power through option.
Does what I need it to do, but might not be suitable for all customers.
This review is a first impression only, I cannot comment on the aftersales of the seller or longevity of the device. The item was delivered quickly, ordered on Saturday and arrived on Monday. Item in new condition.
I suspect the manufacturer has altered/improved the design since some reviews were posted, some complaints are now no longer true and some customer pictures are of different design to what is now advertised and what I received. I don’t want to undermine the sincerity of other customer’s complaints but some could be due to their misunderstanding about how computers and USB ports work rather than something wrong with the device itself. I will try to provide some technical information and myth busting in my review further down for the benefit of future buyers.
POSITIVES
– Works with Pop OS (a spinoff of Ubuntu, Linux) even though only advertised to work with Windows and Mac. My laptop manufacturer (Dell) optimised my laptop for Windows rather than Linux, so that’s a good sign that it works on Linux just as well as it would on Windows immediately, without any drivers
– Works with my laptop (Dell Inspiron 7000 series, specific model 7501) even though it wasn’t advertised to do so
– I can use the HDMI ports to extend my monitors, so that including my laptop’s native monitor I now have three extended screens. As a programmer this is fantastic for me and exactly what I wanted the device for
– Ethernet port works, which is great because I’ve had problems with simpler USB adapters and my laptop does not have an ethernet port.
– No problems to report with the USB ports, USB C port, Headphone jack, SD or Micro SD card slots
– Sorry I was not able to test the power upstream port or the VGA due to lacking the appropriate hardware
– In my experience, the device does not get extremely hot (only as warm as my phone gets during intense operations), but I am not using it very intensively…. My main use for it is the HDMI ports and Ethernet port
NEGATIVES
– The cable attachment is extremely short. This is fine if your laptop is on a desk, but it ironises the aptly named “lap” top. I tried using a long USB C to C cable via the adapter’s USB C port, but this doesn’t work, the device can only be connected to my laptop using its attached cable
– The pictures give the impression that the device neatly sits on the desk. But my HDMI and Ethernet cables are very thick; the thickness and stiffness of the cables bend contrary to gravity and the weight of the device, so my adapter is suspended in mid air at a funny angle.
TECHNICAL LIMITATIONS OF USB
I suspect reasons why a lot of customers complained about the USB ports not working properly is that they might be connecting multiple high powered devices. This adapter does not come with a power cable, all the power is drawn from your laptop, which has limited power reserves to send via USB. Devices such as phones, tablets and external hard drives (perhaps not SSDs) tend to use a lot of power. Devices such as mice, keyboards and pen drives use substantially less power in comparison. Your laptop might struggle to accommodate multiple high-powered devices through one USB C port. Understand that there is a reason your laptop model didn’t give you 8 USB ports already, it’s too taxing on the battery life and the internal circuitry!
Additionally, plugging high powered devices could be the reason why some customers experience heat problems. This adapter is not ventillated.
The adapter offers a USB C upstream port which could be used with a 100 Watt adapter (purchase separately) to provide more juice. But as above I was not able to test this feature myself. Doing this will cause the adapter to get hotter!
Furthermore, the “Universal Serial Bus” is not as universal as the name suggests. Just because your laptop has a USB C port, doesn’t mean it is able to send Video signals or charge its battery via USB C. Just because it fits, doesn’t mean it works. You need to check your laptop’s specifications, and be aware of the limitations of Macbooks as the seller has (now at least) clearly advertised. It’s also theoretically possible that your laptop model COULD… support HDMI/VGA, but ONLY if this is ALSO supported by its internal GRAPHICS CARD; some laptops offer a choice of graphics chips, and cheaper or integrated graphics chips (as opposed to more expensive, dedicated graphics cards) may be more limited in this regard.
My laptop is quite modern and theoretically supports USB C charging, but I suspect it wouldn’t work with this adapter because it is quite powerful and needs 100 Watts of juice. This adapter is rated at 100 watts for the upstream, but needs some of that power for itself. My laptop is simply too high powered. Something like a 65 Watt laptop would probably work better for charging with this adapter… as long as you are using its USB-PD upstream with a suitably rated power supply.
If you would like more information on the USB Port (with pictures), Christopher Barnett provides a good YouTube video on his channel, “Explaining Computers”.
VGA NOT WORKING
Some customers report that that VGA port doesn’t work at all. Again this could be a limitation with your laptop or graphics card over USB C. VGA is now an outdated analogue video format, whereas USB is digital and VGA compatibility is simply fading away with time. I do feel sorry for people not having a lot of money to buy new hardware, but I’m sorry to say VGA is destined for the dustbin with your old cassette tapes.
BUT I REALLY, REALLY NEED IT TO DO THESE THINGS
As long as your laptop is compatible, if you want a docking station that can charge your laptop and can cope with higher powered USB devices, you might do better to look at bigger models such as those made by Dell, which have their own power supply cables included and are ventilated to cope with the heat, but as a word of warning, EXPECT TO PAY DOUBLE THE COST AS A MINIMUM. The price reflects the adapter’s capabilities.
HEADPHONES/MIC 3.5MM JACK – USEFUL TO KNOW
This adapter has a single combined headphone/microphone port, similar to a mobile phone. It can only accommodate headphones AND microphone on a headset that uses a combined jack. Desktops and older laptops have separate headphone and microphone ports, so a headset with split jacks is not suitable for this device unless using the headphones without the microphone.
SD CARD PROBLEMS
My laptop recognised that “something” was plugged into this device (Micro SD card) but could not identify it for file transferring. I suspect this is because the SD card is formatted to my mobile phone, so it does not act like a normal SD card. Using a full size SD card from a photoframe did work.
ETHERNET PROBLEMS
I’m not entirely sure on the wizardry behind this, but I suspect adapters such as these may contain their own network cards, rather than using the network card built into your laptop. I have experienced issues with another laptop whereby an ethernet cable worked via a USB adapter but not in the laptop’s own ethernet port because my network hub was treating them differently. If this adapter is drawing power and is plugged into ethernet, but is not plugged into a laptop, your network hub might still think that “something” is plugged in, as per another customer’s complaint. In theory, as long as your network is setup correctly and your laptop has automatic “DHCP”, ethernet should be “plug and play”, your laptop should immediately recognise being plugged into ethernet by virtue of plugging in this adapter.
HDMI TO DISPLAY PORT ADAPTER CABLES
I have a cable that can convert HDMI to Display Port, but it only works one way around (HDMI to DP works, but DP to HDMI doesn’t work). I don’t know if the limitation lies with my PC, monitor or cable. If you want to plug your laptop into Display Port, there is a small risk that buying this adapter then using adapter cables MIGHT not work. To be on the safe side, you would do better to purchase an adapter that has Display Ports instead of HDMI.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I BUY TWO OF THESE ADAPTERS AND PLUG ONE INTO THE USB C PORT OF THE OTHER?
A rip in the fabric of space time? I don’t know. Don’t try it.
I needed a device to setup my work laptop in my home office. This was very handy to connect my existing peripheral devices to my work laptop, the thunderbolt input is quick and convenient to use. I was able to connect both my displays, keyboard, mouse, camera and network cable effortlessly (figuring out how to run the cables to and from was another story). Very happy with my purchase.
Works just like a full sized docking station, paired perfectly with my surface 7 pro even with another laptops usb c power supply attached was powering it. Shame it didn’t come with a psu but at that price can’t expect it to.
Great product, just what I wanted, easy to use. Will buy another for the office.
Great hub perfect for my precision 5560 only thing is that the laptop draws too much power for power passthrough but that’s not the fault of the dock
Needing to switch from my work laptop and my own personal one. This has made life so much easier. Delighted with it.
his is such a good product. So good on my Samsung Galaxy Book Pro.
So far working well. The Ethernet and monitor ports are very close together so using both at the same time is difficult. An extra 5mm would help. Otherwise all good.
Great box – any ideas re playing videos – I was teaching with power point via Mac air wouldn’t play embedded video – on the projected TV screen – also had used vlc software . Is this a problem for the box or need different software
it wouldn’t play video on TV via power point teaching
Exactly what I needed. Extra USB ports, VGA, audio, HDMI, network, power, SD card, micro SD card and network. Not tried the network function but everything else works excellent.
Exactly whay i needed.
Only dowside heats up a bit when using for long periods.
This port replicator works really well with my Dell 5580 laptop. I have used it a number of times at various events. The big advantage is that it provides me with a VGA port and an additional HDMI port. Good value for money. Please note: I think it will only work fully with USB C ports where there is a little “D Port” symbol identified alongside the USB port on your computer.
Great value and exceptional quality. Everything works as it was advertised, and it’s been brilliant as a laptop multi tool. Worth every penny (we actually purchased another one after this one)
Enabled us to get laptop connected- good value for money
This is a good docking station, but can’t get the VGA and HDMI to extend desktop rather than mirroring. It will work if you use the HDMI on the laptop and the VGA from the station.
A really good product however the price is far too high for what you get.
I used this to allow USB 2 and VGA monitor to connect to my Macbook Air. It works well. No issues and power goes through it as well so only one USB C needs to connect to the laptop from this docking device. Good value and no need for the over priced Apple accessories that are not as useful as this.
Great build quality, haven’t checked the speed of ports although I haven’t had an issue with them.
Good hub with everything you could need and it does work with the M1 MacBook pro. The only downside is the fact that the hub heats up a lot just from being plugged in.
Headline says it all really. I needed a USB C hub that had both an SD card and a Network port and this one seemed to fit the bill.
It certainly does that but the first time I used it, it got quite hot so I contacted the seller about this. The reply I received confirmed that the device will get “warm” in use.
very light and neat. Gets rid of need for 5 other adaptors!
Ordered this for working from home as had cables going all over the place. Keeps everything nice and tidy plus I can now use an Ethernet cable instead of WiFi.
Very small and compact and does a lot of jobs at once. Gets a bit cumbersome with all the cables but it means i can hook my laptop up with one USB C cable very quickly. Its also easy to keep alongside with your laptop.
As of now, work smoothly for a week with all peripherals except the LAN peripheral which is not working. I will update my reviews in three weeks. I will request the buyers to replace it. Rest it is working smoothly. I think it is a decent device if all peripherals work properly.
This product is good to link old moniters and other PC products
excellent device, small and compact, only one connection needed to the laptop for power, monitor and attachments.
Good Build quality, and lots of ports most appear to work unfortunatly the SD card reader doesn’t appear to be working but it is early days, and will amend review if I get it working.
Following the above review the seller has contacted me and been very helpful and has arrange for a replacement, the customer service has been first class and efficient. Thanks to Renee
This product is ideal for the use it provides. Good quality and a breeze to use.
Needed to use various pieces of equipment from my old PC tower. Simply plugged in the adapter and all worked almost instantaneously without the need to load any drivers – laptop is a MacBook Air with an M1 chip.
This hub does exactly what it say it will do. It is very small and neat, requires no setup and connects all of your peripherals from a single USB C. Highly recommended.
It does exactly what I wanted it to do which was to have two additional screens from my laptop; one is HDMI and the other VGA. Three small issues I have are that the cable is too short so I can’t position it where I want it. The VGA port doesn’t have screw hole to attached securely and it does get quite warm. However, those aren’t major issues. For the price and functionality it’s great.
Nice and tidy mini port the USB-c cable to the laptop is longe enough to not leave it dangling from the side of my laptop. And all the right connections in one
I used this hub to connect a VGA monitor to the laptop. Initially I thought that I could use both the HDMI and the VGA ports to connect to the monitors in expand mode. However it turns out that the two ports work in sort of mirror mode even though the laptop is put in expand mode. I confirmed this with the seller and to do what I needed I would need a hub that had a MST chip. I now have it working as desired (in expand mode) by connecting the HDMI monitor directly to the laptop and use the VGA port on the hub for the VGA monitor with the laptop lid closed. The added bonus of this hub is that the laptop does not have an Ethernet port whereas the hub does.
good price good device, so far no issues with my camera keyboard mouse, monitor or network.
We had ordered the same before, but it was lost in the cargo. we ordered again, yesterday arrived. it’s really small and portable. You will not regret it!!!
Not used the camera bit yet
Very happy with my purchase
Thank you
small, lightweight, multiple connection types, easy to plug in to laptop
Great device, good value for money. Arrived extremely quickly and would purchase again.
I purchased this so I could attach an additional screen to my laptop which works brilliantly – just plugged it in an voila! worked in seconds! It’s very neat and compact so doesn’t take up much space on the desk and has additional card slots, USB ports and a bunch of other ports I have yet to figure out (but I’m sure will be very useful in the fullness of time) I feel this is good value for money. I’m very pleased with the purchase and would recommend.
I have had this little piece for about a week and i haven’t had any issue using it. Initially hesitant about getting this but it’s been very reliable to date. Been able to plug in everything i need and quite pleased i didn’t go for the bigger option. Got my hdmi cable for monitor, cable for keyboard, cable for mouse and also my phone charger. Pretty pleased with my purchase.
Great product, no hassle with connecting but for some reason not every laptop respond to the signal.
All the ports work and the metal finish feels study and of prism quality. Charges iPad while allowing the iPad to use HDMI, therefore perfect for what I wanted and the aux point means my Bose headphones are not redundant for the new iPad. Certainly would recommend and is great for other people needing a port. Did not over heat and maintained Charing iPad with the majority of the ports occupied. Solid, I would buy again.
all I can say, it does what is says on the box. this was my second attempt at this type of connection, the first one only worked with half the stiff plugged in. So I tried this companies, everything plugged in and works perfect , you can even use it with or with the power cable plugged in .wish I came here first .
I cant wait to use it. It has all the inputs I need for my tablet and laptop.
Really useful hub for devices with one or two USB-C ports, such as the iPad Pro, MacBook Air etc. Great selection of video ports too all in a neat design, which looks very nice in the aluminium and plastic materials. I’ve only had it for a day but am very happy with my choice.
Nice streamlined design that doesn’t clutter up my desk, also has a card reader which is handy. Good price too, happy with the product.
I wanted an easy way to dock my Dell XPS laptop to my big screen, keyboard and mouse. This works perfectly for that. Seems very nicely made and worked out of the box.
