I purchased this as I dry my washing indoors and wanted to avoid damp. It works very well and is fairly quick too. Much quicker than leaving clothes to dry naturally.

What we like it’s a great alternative to using the tumble dryer for most things but not really for thick bath towels or bedding.
Much cheaper to run than the tumble drye

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI’ve been waiting for these to come down in price and finally decided to purchase a 12L unit. I have been renovating my house and as a result a lot of moisture is in the walls (from replastering etc) as well as a lot of dust. My dining room is particularly bad as it currently doesn’t have a window that can be opened. I’ve run this on the high setting for 5 days now in the dining room and so far it’s removed more than 75L already. The air quality feels so much better, you can tell as soon as you walk into the house. I intend to keep this running constantly for a few weeks and then will run it on the lower fan speed mode. I am so happy and look forward to living in a healthier house!

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersThis is the first dehumidifier I’ve purchased as I don’t have damp mouldy wall problems but it can get vey humid with condensation on the windows which leads to mould around the windows. This MeacoDry ABC dehumidifier 10L is perfect for solving this issue as it’s compact but still very effective.

There are 2 fan speed settings with both running quiet, in fact I always run it on the higher speed as it’s quiet enough for me not being obtrusive even being in the same room. There is also a digital display showing the relative humidity in the room with settings to regulate the humidity you want which automatically switches off the machine when it reaches the target humidity. There are other features which are described in the product description which makes it a very capable dehumidifier.

Using it to help control humidity and window condensation as well as drying laundry on an airer and for both it works very well and cheap to run. Also very easy to move from room to room with the handle on the back. If you’re looking for a good quality capable dehumidifier for humidity or condensation control then in my opinion this is perfect.

I’m mainly impressed with how quiet it is, how well it works and the high quality. I am very happy with this and recommend you get one, even if it’s just for drying laundry as it’s a lot cheaper than running a tumble drier.

I got this for my elderly parents and they are very pleased! It does a great job, they empty it twice a day which shows just how much moisture was in the air! No more condensation. It is heavy so hard to move about and a bit noisy but not too bad and you get used to the gentle hum.

We hade quite a humid cellar, humidity untill 75%. Within a few hours it was down to 55%. Remarkable.
We had a smaller machine, but that took a week what this machine collects in a few hours. Its very quiet too.

Get one saves you money and gets clothes dry. Will be buy daughter one as she’s always up to her neck with two young kids .. definitely does all the stuff reallly well and costs a pittance to run compared with a tumble dryer so far we’ve had it 6 months and no issues. have a smallish 2 bedroom house we use it in the bedroom with door and windows closed.

This is an effective dehumidifier, reducing humidity in my home from over 70 to around 55 in the first few days of use, being emptied daily. I would recommend using a separate humidistat/hygrometer to double check humidity level as I believe the reading on the dehumidifier is inaccurate. I have other devices (clock, thermometer) with humidistats which consistently show around 10% lower than the dehumidifier’s reading. In terms of noise, it seems quiet during the day and not really noticeable with other everyday noise going on, but I can’t sleep with the noise even on low fan mode. Despite this, I would definitely recommend this for reducing damp problems – my rooms felt drier, warmer and much more comfortable from the first day of use. It is also not particularly heavy but wheels would have significantly improved its manoeuvrability.

I’ve had this dehumidifier for a year now and it’s absolutely brilliant! It removes litres of water every three days (why do I live in England??) and it totally does the job!
I had a smaller dehumidifier before, which was not working at all. It’s a bit of a chunky item but really worth to clean the air! Water tank easy to remove and empty, not much noise. It also works well with drying clothes. 100% Recommended!

    Had this for several months
    Used every week
Main use for me is drying my cycling clothing which can’t be tumble dried & to avoid having condensation on inside of patio doors..
    Works absolutely perfectly..
Not one drop of condensation on patio doors, in winter, that’s with windows shut the whole time +clothing dries in half the time..I have also positioned this around my house (I have no damp or condensation problem) but it still pulls water out of the air..
It could clearly handle more if required..
This product does exactly what it says it does & does it very very well..
I have never left a review before, however this product is so good I felt I had to

Bought the product as my toilet was really humid and was starting to have black mould. Initially I was a bit hesistant to purchase the Meaco due the price.

However, after buying a much cheaper brand only to find that it didn’t match up to my expectations, I took the plunge to purchase the Meaco Dehumidifier to compare results.

Needless to say that I returned the cheaper version and kept the Meaco. There are no new black mould growths in the bathroom. I set the dehumifier on timer if anyone else has a shower in the evening. It also has other features such as a drying mode if needed.

The noise level on the low setting is quite quiet but it is understandable that the noise increases as the level increases too.

I definitely would recommend this dehumidifier to anyone that needs one!

Not powerful enough for a whole house (mine is a 3-bed semi) but excellent for drying washing and for a limited amount of dampness. I have the setting at 55, but don’t keep the machine on all the time, just when I have washing to dry. The water compartment soon fills up, and is easy to empty. The filter should be cleaned/hoovered about once a fortnight (easy to do). It’s a bit noisier that I expected, but not too noisy. I can’t vouch for the energy efficiency, though it’s supposed to be good. Overall, I’m very pleased with this purchase.

I’ve been using it for about 2 months now. Easy to assemble, easy and straightforward to use, doesn’t consume much energy. A little heavy to carry but nothing impossible. Collects a heck of a lot of water in such a short amount of time. It is not loud at all! If I went by some comments here I wouldn’t have bought such a great product!

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI have used this dehumidifier twice so far as I only got it this week so I can only give the results so far.

I have two indoor clothes airers in a bedroom measuring 22.5M3 (I did the floor measurements and the floor to ceiling measurement and using an online calculator worked out the volume).
The central heating is set to 19 degrees celsius.

After going through the washing machine I put the bedding hung between the airers and switched the dehumidifier on and pressed the “Laundry” button and left it for 3 and a half hours.
After this time the bedding had mostly finished drying but still slightly damp but not much and I am sure that the dehumidifier could have helped finished things off if I had left it running for longer (it was getting late and I had to go to bed).
A pillow case, a king size fitted sheet and a king size quilt cover produced 1 and a quarter pints of water when I emptied the dehumidifier collection bin in to a Pyrex measuring jug.
(I would add that it took 9 hours for the bedding to air dry before I bought the dehumidifier).

I the did the same exercise for a regular washing machine load of clothes left to dry for 6 hours.
5x pairs of socks, 6 pairs of pants, 1x Pair of pyjamas, 1x swimming shorts, 1x t-shirt, 4x work shirts, 2x hand towels and 1x beach towel.
After 6 hours the dehumidifier will switch off automatically when in “Laundry” mode and most things were dry with to odd item still being slightly damp but not too bad.
The dehumidifier had collected 2 and a quarter pints of water.

I got this dehumidifier due to the fact that my 8 year old Bosch washer/dryer is now just a washer as the dryer no longer works and it is not cost effective to fix it (I had two engineers come out 3 times to try and fix it).

This dehumidifier is a better option and more cost effective to run and also saves time as before I could only wash and dry one load at at time and I am not waiting around for the washer/dryer to finish drying.

This dehumidifier may be more expensive that some other brands but it is more energy efficient and collects more water than others when comparing the specifications.

    I would recommend.

Really happy with this purchase and glad we went with Meaco.
My son’s room is prone to condensation. I wanted something that was neither too big or small.
This has a good sized water resevoir, a very smart look to it and the noise on the lowest setting is not too loud.
It looks stylish, is eady to empty and not overly complex.
My only criticism is I wish it had wheels. It’s a little heavy but we don’t move it much.
Highly recommended as moisture levrls have improved. We run it yo about 50. There’s an easy digital display.

I bought mine over a year ago and it’s done a fab job at reducing humidity and keeping mould & mildew at bay in my 3bed 1914 home. I keep it at a humidity level of 55 and this is usually enough to keep windows clear of condensation on cold nights. The noise level is fine (It’s a low hum in sleep mode which you get used to). We have ours on the landing fairly close to bedroom doors but it doesn’t bother anyone in the family.
Unfortunately, almost a year to the day, my unit no longer collected water. However, having contacting Meaco, they emailed a postage label to send it back (Free of charge) and offered a discounted service while it was being repaired. Meaco confirmed they had received the unit but that it wasn’t repairable. They refunded the 20 servicing I had paid for and sent a replacement unit which arrived quickly. Top marks to them for customer service!!!

We have a damp issue in the house. Condensation streaming down windows and black mould on the back of cupboard. Humidity measurement was 69! Leaving this on just resolved the issue. I’m still amazed how much water this pulls out of the air, each time I empty it. No condensation nothing. Quiet enough to leave running upstairs on landing. You just set desired humidity. I set to 45 and it has a smart detector turning on and off to regulate. Wow. In 1 day when it’s raining outside it can be full. House nightmate situation resolved

It started by taking about 2.6 L out of the air in my house every 6 hours. Now, after 5 months, it takes the same amount every 5-7 days so it’s doing it’s job well. I would say the RH of my home has come down by 10-15% to a comfortable 45-60%. As I have a good quality hand held hygrometer(Peaktech) which I have tested with the salt test a couple of times, it seems that the built in hygrometer on the Meaco reads 6-10% high. I also bought a cheap hygrometer as well, & that reads several % lower than the Peaktech, so hygrometers cannot be relied upon unless you test them with the salt test (see internet). I also plug this dehumidifier into a mains segment timer which switches it on and off every 3 hours or so, to give it a rest for 30-45 mins. It’s mainly off in the day & mainly on in the night. Despite what the instructions say, I dont think it should be left on 24/7 in case it burns out.

This was one of the best purchases i could make for our flat. We had serious black mould issue due to high levels of moisture, but looks like its under control now.
It wont remove the spots of mould – you will have to do it yourself – but it will definitely prevent the future spots from reappearing.
Another advantage of this dehumidifier is when you have to dry to your clothes indoors – Laundry Mode makes everything nearly dry in about 10 hours.

Still rather noisy to have it on during sleep time, but this one is supposed to be the quietest on the market, so other dehumidifiers are probably even worse.

12L is enough for a 2 bedroom flat.

Other thing to improve is maybe adding wheels to the base of it to add manoeuvrability, it is rather heavy for my wife to move.

But in general very pleased with it and it looks cool too.

I wanted to write this review because there were some conflicing reports on how efficient this product is for a three bedroom house. For our house, which I’d say is a small three bedroom house (end terrace with a box room), it works wonders.

We have an open plan living/kitchen/diner and have always suffered from terrible condensation upstairs. Leaving all windows ajar 24/7 helped a lot but it was never a 100% complete solution. On the discovery of several false widows (a couple found in and around our beds) and the failure to keep them out using several methods, we decided to try a dehumidifier so we could keep our windows closed.

We are so glad we did this because for us, it has been the perfect solution.

The location we placed the dehumidifier is on the landing inbetween all three bedrooms and we leave all the bedroom doors open. We set it to 55 and put it on at 4pm when my wife and children come home. At 8pm we set it to sleep mode and leave it on overnight. In the morning the tank is almost full and we have zero condensation.

With the windows being closed we found we dont need the heating on as much now so it counterbalances the extra electcity usage (which is not that much using sleep mode anyway). Another bonus is we can feel the air quality difference and we find we are having better nights sleep.

We live in an upside down house so all our bedrooms are downstairs behind a retaining wall, there is also an ensuite in our bedroom and so the moisture has always been high and cause problems with mould for years. After redecorating and a new carpet we bought this and put it in the bedroom and run it each evening from when we get home until bedtime, so 4-5 hours, it fills the water tank every 2-3 days getting the humidity down to about 60% each night even after we’ve both showered in the ensuite.
We’ve also used it in the utility to speed up drying of clothes when it’s raining and I attached a bit of garden hose to the output pipe leading in to the sink, worked great.
    Best investment we’ve made.

I have had this product for about a week now so can offer my first thoughts!

I bought thid product as I live in a flat, where all activities like showering, cooking, hanging clothes etc all happen in the same space. With winter meaning I don’t want windows open all the time, I thought a dehumiidifer would be a good investment, whilst also helping keep the flat free of mould, condensation etc.

The amount of water this thing collects is unbelieable. For the first few days, it was almost collecting a full tank per day. I have set to 55% humitity which as others have said, seems to be the sweet spot. I have noticed the flat seems warmer, towels drier, and clothes don’t take as lon to dry. I am sure the combination of this, plus reducing the need to open windows on cold days will help with heating bills too. I went for the 12L model.

Overall a great investment for flat-dwellers and those that have a smaller space. The noise is noticable, but not overbearing. Just a soft fan like you would expect from a air-con unit.

Not sure if it will be useful in summer, but for winter it is great.

It does collect water and works (at least so far) like treat. I’ve read quite a lot reviews claiming that it is quite and able to sleep with it, well that couldn’t be more wrong. The noise it’s not an annoying one (thankfully), but it is loud. People who are sleeping with TV on, I suppose can bare the ouse and sleep with it. Anyway, I have it run during the day and I am satisfied by the results.

I would have given this product a five star but for four things:
    1. The built in humidistat appears inaccurate and gives a very different reading to other humidistats I have tested it against, for example the Meaco reads 59% but three other humitistats tested close by in the same room read 49% to 50%.
    2. The 12L model has no wheels and these have to be ordered and cost extra.
    3. The 12L model has no drain pipe.
    4. Not as quiet as suggested, my old 15 year old Amcor dehumidifier is about the same.
Regarding energy saving, the 160w rating does mean that you can dehumidify a room at a lower energy cost compared say to a 220w, but it appears that the moisture extraction rate is reduced accordingly, based on measurement of water extracted when swapping the Meaco with our Amcor dehumidifier in the same room.

I was surprised just how small it is! I bought the 12l one as a replacement for a useless EcoAir 7l dessicant one.

Slightly disappointed the tank is small. Same size as my last.

Noise is acceptable, especially on low fan but it dehumidifys better on high fan. Can still watch TV but with volume up a bit. It sounds like a much quieter portable air con or a fridge whirring. With fan noise on top.

In the first 6hrs it removed half a tanks worth. My old one filled a tank once in a week and on full power 4hrs a day!

It’s slightly wobbly on my low pile carpet, shame it didn’t come already fitted with wheels as its quite heavy for me but I’m just using it in one room and opening all other doors.
I have a 750sqft 2 bed bungalow which suffers condensation and high humidity of 70% in winter. My old EcoAir one only got it down 5% in 8hrs.
This reduced it by 10% in 2hrs. The air started feeling fresher as well unlike the last one.
The huidity display is fairly accurate 1-2% out at times according to my testo hygrometer but still acceptable.

I recently moved into a new home which has AWFUL condensation and felt damp all the time. I bought many disposable dehumidifiers, but none of them could handle the problem. I bit the bullet and invested in this, and I’m so happy I did.
I live in a small 2 bed flat, with no outdoor space, so when I do my laundry I have to keep it inside to dry. With it being winter, leaving the windows open is not an option. Before I bought this, my laundry would take 3 days to dry. When I turn on the laundry setting and leave it on all night, my laundry is dry the next day. The windows have no condensation, and my home doesn’t feel damp anymore.

I’ve recommended this to family who have similar issues with condensation. It’s really easy to use, and quick to empty. I’ve attached a video of the water it collected after about 6-9 hours on its medium setting when we first bought it. (hopefully the video uploads. If not, then it was full and I’m honestly shocked on how much moisture was in the air).

Highly recommend! It definitely works well in a small 2 bed flat. But, remember to keep doors to rooms open slightly to allow the moisture to be removed by the dehumidifier. If any doors are closed, it’s unable to remove the moisture fully from that room.

Wish I had bought this years ago every house should have one. My house doesn’t have a damp problem but does occasionally suffer with small mould patches of condensation on the outside walls. It’s amazing how much water this machine can take out of the atmosphere two pints the first night and it’s down to two tablespoons the next. I now use this if I have to dry washing inside and don’t anticipated any more condensation mould. Worth every penny. On the downside it’s a bit heavy to lift as I got the 12ltr one which doesn’t come with castors but it switches off when the set moisturiser levels are reached so is energy efficient.

The quality of this dehumidifier appears to be good, well made and efficient. However, much is made of how quiet the dehumidifier is. But on the first night I found it makes a whistle, whining noise that gets right into my head when trying to sleep at night. I contacted Meaco and their reply is:

‘The high pitched/whistle sound you are hearing is common on R290 compressors.
‘The noise is most likely to be heard at lower temperatures and/or whilst the compressor is warming up (similar to a car on a cold winters morning). It will be easily heard if the unit is being run on the low fan speed, however it is difficult to hear whilst running on the higher fan speed. This is because the sound of the fan will cover it up.’

I have had the dehumidifier running for a week now and it seems to have settled down or I am getting use to the sound. If the sound does not bother you I would recommend this dehumidifier.
As a side note. The dehumidifier is made in China. I wish Amazon would add ‘place’ of manufacture in the product description.

Very happy with the dehumidifier. I originally wanted to buy the Lakeland electric clothes dryer but decided to go for the dehumidifier instead. It dries my clothes within a day a I don’t have a damp smell in my house. I can set up the humidity on 55-60 and leave the machine on until the tub is full with water. I mostly dry the clothes indoor as the weather is bad just now. I had some mould in the room I was drying the clothes in but got it now under control. It’s a great buy it not only dries your clothes it also decreases the humidity and mould in your home. Definitely a winner for me!

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersEasy to use. Sucks moist air in through the filter at the back and blows dry air out the vent on top. Water tank slides out for emptying and must be clicked back in place properly or the machine won’t function. The filter pops off for easy cleaning, just get a hoover nozzle on it.

There are two fan settings, an adjustable humidistat, power button, full tank indicator and continuous laundry mode. Continuous laundry mode dried my bed linen in a few hours.

The only negative? The machine is quite heavy. I came close to dropping it when I repositioned it because it is heavy and there are no castors or handles on the 10 and 12 litre models.

Does what it says it does.

Does what it says on the tin. Easy to move about. Easy to follow instructions on the panel. Does turn itself off on occasions even though the container is not full. Maybe user error. I am a bit deaf so the noise is not an issue. My last dehumidifier ( taken by my son to his new house) made a loud beeb when the container is full. I use this for drying my laundry at night. This does not give any indication when it is needs emptying, it just stops and the light goes off. It does beeb when you take the container out to empty it. Would have been better if it beebed when it needs emptying. It could be just be me being deaf. So, would be great for non-deaf people.

I have been using this dehumidifier for a over a year now and happy with it. I bought it specifically to dry my laundry indoors, during the winter. In the summer I prefer to dry it in the open air on the balcony of my flat.
The reason why I give it 4 stars is that in spite of being described as silent, it certainly isn’t silent. It emits a low humming sound which unfortunately in my badly soundproof flat can still be somewhat heard by my neighbour, something I was hoping to avoid. I also wish it was made easier to manoeuvre, with a strong handle and wheels preferably.
However, other than that its done a great job. I dry my washing on the Drysoon 3-tier heated dryer (costing 6p an hour on electricity), I place a sheet or a thin blanket over it to trap the heat inside and put the dehumidifier on a stool right next to the dryer. With these combined powers I have a dry laundry after several hours for very little cost.

Great for drying my laundry in the winte

Bought this as for years I’ve been buying disposable dehumidifiers and desperately wanted to stop adding to plastics. So glad I did, we do have a lot of condensation in our 2bedroom house, lounge, hall and one bedroom in particular, this has taken litres out in first few days, amazed by how much water it’s pulled out of air! It is about as noisy as a fan which doesn’t bother me, but I use it downstairs overnight and in bedroom during day, now rooms are dryer I won’t lug it up and down till weather gets colder, it is a bit heavy but manageable, am sure this will solve wet windows. Helps dry laundry on a clothes horse too! Highly recommend if you have damp walls and windows!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersIt’s been only 1 week so I can’t tell how durable this dehumidifier is or how easy it is to clean from dust, but I can tell it’s pretty efficient and not too noisy. I’m living in a tiny house which is actually just one large room (converted garage) about 6.5 x 5 metres, plus kitchen area, only bathroom is separated, so I get all the damp from cooking and whatever else I’m doing in the house. I was wondering why I’m always coughing and sometimes have sore throat. After discovering green mould on my wooden furniture and getting rid of it, I immediately bought two digital hygrometers and this Meaco dehumidifier. Turned out my humidity level was almost 70%, particularly in one corner of the house with poorest air circulation. With this Meaco I was able to get it down to 50% in the first three days, but if I leave it off, the humidity will raise to 60-66% depending on where I place the hygrometer and measure it. It seems like the worst it is at the ground level. That’s probably why the floor next to me bed has warped a bit.
I’m a person with extremely light sleep who uses silicone ear plugs every single night because any sound wakes me up. I was able to sleep in the room with this dehumidifier running on low fan speed. I could still heard it but it’s a steady humming sound so you will adapt to it. Most people are not as sensitive to sound as I am, but if you are, you can try some ear plugs as well. I find pigeons on my roof in the morning much much more annoying than this dehumidifier fan. They always wake me up early.
The dehumidifier collected full tank of water in the first 10 hours or so. Second day just a little bit less. Right now I’m leaving it off as we have very hot weather so all my windows are open and dehumidifier warms up the air slightly. Even with my windows open, the humidity level is still around 60%, not sure why, but at least I see that I definitely need the dehumidifier.
I just wish it had 2 handles not just one in the back. It’s not super heavy, but still, you lift it with one hand and then you need to support the bottom with your other hand if you want to keep it in vertical position (which you always should).

After trying many different products that promised to reduce damp, that never really worked, I decided to bite the bullet and invest in a dehumidifier. After all, if it worked, it had to be cheaper than buying litres of mould killer, and paint to redecorate.

I did a bit of research, and the reviews for the Meaco seemed positive. So I took the plunge and ordered one.

    And I’m glad I did!

I hang washing up in the spare bedroom which sends the humidity sky high resulting in black mould. But since buying the Meaco the humidity is under control, and no mould! After hanging the washing on the clothes horse I set the unit running on the lowest setting. My clothes dry within a few hours and no more damp smell.

The unit is reasonably quiet. I leave it running during the day and off at night. However, if I had to run it at night I imagine it is quiet enough for me to sleep, but I appreciate everyone is different when it comes to sleep and noise.

The child-lock function is very handy as my 2 year old loves pressing buttons. I also like you can set a humidity target value which the unit regulates.

Is it more cost-effective than a tumble drier? I think so, but I’ve not had it long enough to compare electricity bills.

Would I recommend this product? Yes I would! I wish I had bought a dehumidifier years ago, and I am pleased with the Meaco product.

Golden Review Award: 14 From Our UsersThis is a great little dehumidifier. It’s the first electric one I’ve ever bought and it works super well. Took my very humid flat (75+) down to a consistent 60. It’s built in self-defrost feature means you don’t have to worry about it breaking itself if it gets too cold. The noise level is nice and it does only use up to 3p an hour. Manoeuvrability is a little tricky as it’s a bit heavy, but if you set it up somewhere central then you’re better off just leaving it on one place.
Now on to if you live in a cold area / property. If you live somewhere that isn’t going to be consistently 20c and above then you are better off getting what is called a Desiccant Dehumidifier. This model is a Refrigerant Dehumidifier and although it will work in lower temps, you really are better off getting the first option, as desiccant models are specifically built to work better in colder properties. My property is between 13-15c on average during the winter without the heating on and so it does struggle to get the humidity levels below 60 (which is fine with me tbh). It spends a lot of its time defrosting itself unless I have the heating on. I should have really gone for a desiccant dehumidifier but I honestly didn’t know the difference between the two when I bought this, so I thought I’d give potential buyers a heads up.
It’s still an amazing buy and I would recommend it, but you could probably get more bang for your buck if pick the correct type of dehumidifier for you!

We’ve suffered with damp windows and black mold for over 30 years, and then we got this dehumidifier just over a week ago, to say it’s the best thing since sliced bread would be an under statement. In the past We’ve used the watercatchers that you get from the supermarkets and bought umpteen sprays to get rid of the black mold, but we thought enough is enough, they weren’t working so how about we try one of these machines. Yes, I’ll be the first to say I was extremely sceptical in the beginning, how could it get the water off all the windows in the flat, well I’m very pleased to say that this machine has performed a, what I can only describe as, a MIRACLE, and that’s not said in a flippant way, the amount of water it collected in the first 24hours was unbelievable, we emptied it twice before we went to bed, by the morning it was pretty much full again and so on and so on. I must say this is the first dehumidifier I’ve ever bought, I don’t know what the other’s are like, I can only tell you about this one, and by George this is a fantastic machine, and if I needed another one I wouldn’t hesitate buying one of these again. There aren’t any wheels on this one, but, I don’t find it heavy so I can just pick it up and move it if I need too. Yes you can hear it a little in the background, whether it’s on high or low fan setting, but, and it’s a big But..!! I’d rather put up with that than continue to breathe in that wet moldy air we’ve had for so many years, the air we get now is fresher and cleaner than we’ve ever had before, these machines are well worth investing in if you’ve got the same problems as we had, so I would highly recommend this one to anyone.

I love this machine and I strongly recommend it!!

It is extremely efficient, especially if you have to dry laundry indoors. I used to have headaches from wet clothes drying on the radiators; water+powder evaporating in the air. There was a lot of condensation in the house. The air was humid and stale and the clothes would go musty before it goes dry. It was such a major problem in our everyday life and I can’t believe it’s all sorted now – with this machine.

It’s very simple to understand and operate and super cheap to run. It blows back cold dry air, but on the whole it leaves the house feeling warmer and drier. It’s not too loud, but you can definitely hear the fan. (We turn it off in the night because we prefer to sleep in silence). It performs better in the warmer room; if it’s too cold it goes often into defrosting mode. Every now and then, it’s good to vacuum dust that collects on the filter net where the air gets sucked.

The only con I can think of is mobility. It was a bit of a task to move it around until I put it on a mat which now allows me to gently pull, push and slide around the wooden floor without even lifting it and disturbing the water.

Every second day when I see that red light indicating the tank is full I exclaim little “Hurray!” and then victoriously carry the tank to empty it – it’s a great feeling! 😀 It’s really brilliant and it significantly improves the general mood in the house. I can’t praise it enough. I was reading reviews of many different dehumidifiers and I’m so glad I went for this one. It’s the best investment of the year 🙂

Now, I just hope it will have a decent lifetime!

    This is the one!

I have just started using this product and it is very quiet on the low fan setting.
This was to replace an Ecoair DD1 classic mk5 which has had 2 water leak faults in 13 months.
Comparing both, compressor to desiccant, the Meaco is heavier but appears a lot better in its ability to remove humidity. 24 hours and the tank was nearly full. With the Meaco you can set the humidity level which I like and it is so quiet. If you put it on the second fan it’s on.par with the noise from the Ecoair product.
Running costs are half when compared and I have checked this with my smart meter display.
Down side to the Meaco is that its twice the weight compared to the Ecoair and has no handle.
You can buy castors from Meaco but they are out of stock.
    2 year update *****
I bought casters which helps a great deal when moving it around.
A lot of dust is captured in the device so vacuum weekly.
I had one fault at 23 months – display started to go faulty.
Meaco absolutely first class in their service. The repair was authorised, dropped off at DPD collection point. Transported for free. Repaired within a week and returned via DPD.
The dehumidifier works very well which I use in the older part of my home covering 2 bedrooms, a hall and bathroom area. When the device was away for repair, the increase in moisture level was noticeable.
    I would recommend this produc

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersWould definitely recommend for anyone who’s house is slightly damp/humid. It not huge so doesn’t get in the way or look ridiculous out of place. Usually just leave it running for a few hours, set to a certain humidity, turns itself on and off once the humidity set is reached and comes back on if it rises. Have noticed that the damp smell we sometimes get in certain rooms has gone. Always amazes me how much water it collects. The noise level isn’t too bad but there is a quiet mode for night time which isn’t loud enough to keep you awake. It’s got a handle so easier to lift, it’s heavy but manageable.
We had a slight problem with ours after a few months, after going through a few tests with the manufacturer and it still not working, they supplied a courier for us to send it back and a new one when the issue couldn’t be fixed. They made it super easy and there custom services was excellent!

Buying this dehumidifier has been a revelation! Our master bedroom had quite a problem with condensation and mold, especially behind cupboards/wardrobes, in corners etc. The room smelled damp. Since running the dehumidifier for a week, the damp smell has gone completely. The machine collects 3-4 litres of water every 24 hours, you’d never believe there could be that much moisture in the air. We sleep much better and morning coughs have gone!
The machine does sound like an air conditioning unit, but on the slow fan setting, we’ve managed to sleep fine with it on. The benefit of much better humidity is worth the slight noise of the fan.
Seriously, I would not have believed if I hadn’t seen it myself. An absolutely brilliant buy, well worth it. The lower humidity stops mold, reduces house mites, dust and other allergens, it’s made a huge difference in a very short time.
    Highly recommend!

We are very happy with our new Meaco dehumidifier. There are cheaper dehumidifiers available, but we are glad that we paid a bit extra for one that is both quiet and economical to run. Our initial thoughts are as follows:

As dehumidifiers go, it’s a modern, attractive looking unit. When in use, it’s much quieter than our previous dehumidifier, particularly when using the lower fan speed. It also seems much more efficient than our old one, judging by the amount of water it extracts every day.

Thee are plenty of settings to play around with. We use the one where you set the desired humidity level and the unit then switches itself on and off to maintain the level set. Alternatively, you can have the dehumidifier run constantly, or on a timer, and there is also a laundry mode.

This model does also seem very cheap to run, our smart meter hardly moves when the unit is switched on. Other dehumidifiers we considered had much higher running costs, so we should make a saving in the long run.

As far as negative points go, we can only think of 3:
    1. It’s quite heavy and does not have wheels, which might be an issue if you need to move it around your home.
    2. It’s relatively easy to spill some water when removing the water tank to empty it.
    3. When using the laundry mode, the air cannot be directed horizontally towards the wet clothes.

We have only had this dehumidifier for 2 weeks so cannot comment on its reliability. However, Meaco have a good reputation and have been awarded a Which? Best Buy, so hopefully we should be ok.

In conclusion, we have no hesitation in recommending this model and would happily buy another Meaco product in the future.

We bought this 9 months ago and are so pleased we did. We live in an small terraced house in a damp area so this has really helped, especially as in winter we dry washing indoors. On low setting it is very quiet, not silent, as after all it has to suck air in and blow it out. It’s probably not much noisier than a desk fan when it’s on low. It certainly collects a lot of water, the tank is easy to empty, though you do need a steady hand to get it to the sink/watering can etc without spilling any water. The air filter is easy to clean, once a week just unclip and wipe/wash clean. We have it on almost all the time, especially if we have washing drying and we haven’t noticed any large jumps in our energy bills, so we assume it’s cost efficient. It looks nice too.
It’s not too heavy to carry up and downstairs if you want to move it, though as it only has a handle on one side it is a little awkward, a second hand grip would have made it easier to carry.
When it first arrived I couldn’t get it to work, i had LC on the digital display and couldn’t find out what it meant from the instruction booklet, so I rang the helpline. A very pleasant gentleman helped me sort it out, turns out in my button pushing I had activated the child lock, though why that isn’t CL instead of LC on the display I don’t know. Anyhow, once I’d turned that off it has worked a treat, winter through to now, it helps on these hot humid days too.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI should have bought this ages ago. I do laundry nearly everyday and drying it indoors in the winter means damage this handy little appliance could have prevented. I’m also allergic to dust mites and this works wonders for those little buggers. I’m astounded at how much humidity it absorbs in my small flat and how cleaner the air quality feels using it. Next time I’ll make sure to buy one that’s also an air purifier with a hepa filter but until then this is superb quality for money.

EDIT: I’ve just witnessed just how well this works and I’m probably buying another one. I woke up in the middle of the night to water seeping through the bedroom wall. I used kitchen towels and duct tape to try and seal the cracks to no avail and then I put this in the bedroom on the highest setting. It took 15 minutes for it to absorb all the moisture from the wall and will hopefully keep it dry until someone comes to fix the leak. BUY THIS!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI needed to replace the desiccant humidifier which I’d had running in my cellar for the last five years. Although it’s done a good job (despite one breakdown under warranty), I was aware of the running costs and so spent a long time going through independent reviews and people’s comments on Amazon to find a more efficient solution.

This Meaco ABC unit came out well in the reviews and I have not been disappointed so far. It’s a compressor design so the temperature in the cellar (16C) is pretty much ideal to ensure efficient operation.

The design and user interface is simple and took no time to get acquainted with. The body does not feel quite as solid as the Ecoair DD122 it replaced and the design of water tray is more fiddly to use. I thought I would miss the swinging air vent of the DD122 but after three weeks on it is doing a great job. The humidity level in the cellar is actually slightly lower than I achieved with the desiccant unit and I can see a drop in my electricity usage. The Meaco unit is also really quiet in operation so probably ideal if you want to run it in the main living space of a house.

Finally, I had to contact the Meaco customer service with a question about another unit I had purchased. They were first rate in their response dealing with my enquiry in a very prompt and professional manner. At least I have confidence that should anything go wrong I can speak to a human being to get it resolved.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI wanted a dehumidifier to help dry out a room affected by water damage to a carpet. There was a lot of excess water left and I had the option to remove the carpet or leave it in situ and try to dry it out. I chose the latter and after removing as much moisture as possible with a wet and dry vac, I bought this Meaco 12l unit to complete the drying process.

This unit is really neat. Although it doesn’t have wheels, there’s a carry handle which makes it very easy to move round with one hand. I’m an older user, with arthritis, so if I can manage it with ease, I’m sure anyone can!

I’m impressed by very low noise, even on full fan setting. The controls are both easy to read and very easy to use. Different fan speeds and being able to set a preferred humidity level provides a range of uses. The water tray is really easy to grip and pull on and easy to empty. There’s a clear plastic viewing area so you can check the level of water. Plus, it cuts out if it reaches full, so there’s no danger of overflow.

So far, it’s working away pulling moisture from the room. I’ve closed windows and added heat to help the drying process and it’s taking about 6l a day at present. It won’t dry overnight, but I’m happy with performance, particularly for the price. Energy use doesn’t seem excessive. A brilliant buy and with a 2 year warranty, I’m confident it’ll give good service for other domestic use once this problem is resolved. I had a query and found customer support immediate and helpful.

I live in a studio with condensation on windows constantly. I recently got a hamster as well and thought if it’s quiet hamster should be ok with it.

Firstly I still have condensation on windows. I leave it running overnight and in the morning condensation is still there. But I have to say I feel less worried since it runs overnight and apparently it was just about 50% humidity last night so it was ok.
My bathroom is the biggest problem by far and it has 2 large single glaze windows that do not open and I don’t even think the extractor fan extracts to anywhere (stingy landlord!). I pop this bad boy in there after a shower, initially at the doorway of the bathroom and the small cabinet mirror there demists in minutes, then I move it slightly further in and the big mirror in the bathroom also demists swiftly in about 20 minutes compared to the 2 hours it used to take without this!! Having said that the serious deluge on the big glass windows are still there with black and pink mold popping up on the frame; but I think bathroom is just a tad too cold to really dry it out…Unless I run a heater in there whilst dehumidifying!

All in all I am happy with it so far, though no full tanks overnight, so maybe my studio isn’t as damp as I thought it would be?

A few down sides that either I haven’t sussed out yet or are down sides:
    – it is a bit heavy and lifting it with the handle recess at the back it is a bit awkward, maybe if handle recess is on either side lifting would be much steadier and easier
    – sometimes it won’t let me change fan speeds I don’t know why. Especially after I have set target humidity level.

Golden Review Award: 52 From Our UsersSo, this isn’t by any means a long term review, just the first few days of ownership. But I thought best to leave a review, as my initial impressions have been brilliant so far.

Unit is well packaged and thought out, the company seem to care which is a big bonus, just going on the presentation of the machine itself and accompanying documentation.

It’s quiet, stylish and damn well does the job at hand. We bought this after our apartment (master bedroom, en-suite bathroom, hallway, kitchen/lounge) started to become very humid in the cold months we are now in, reaching around 82% in the living areas, 90%+ in the bathroom at all times. We were seeing condensation on the walls and windows, as well as mould growth. The air felt heavy, damp and cold. You could feel it. Washing took forever to dry on radiators and would often smell or remain damp afterwards. Being in London, we can’t exactly open the windows all day and let air flush through and the weather hasn’t exactly helped that either. We needed a dehumidifier.

After looking on Which and Amazon, decided to buy this out of recommendation and price to performance. So far, it has not disappointed at all.

Set it up on auto with a target of 55% humidity and left it running with all doors open in the middle of the apartment. Within the first hour of runnnig there was a noticable difference in the weight of the air, it already felt much fresher, with the sound when near it of trickling water being sucked from the air. Within the first 6, it dropped the humidity from 82% to 70% (bathroom finally dried too!) and removed a whole tank of water from the air in the apartment, from about 4pm to 10pm. I was astonished just how much water was in the air. Left it running over night and it was down to 59%, another tank full. With the bedroom door shut and it just on the other side, you can’t hear it on full power.

So far, I love it. The air is fresh and light again, it feels warmer and no condensation on walls and windows. The bathroom is finally dry and clothes not damn or smelling. Much better nights sleep! Let’s just hope I never have to use that 2 year warranty!

    Edit: We set it up in the center of the apartment on Sunday when it arrived, in the hallway with all doors open, set to an auto target of 55% humidity. The hallway is as central as you can get in this place. The difference is astonishing. First few days, we emptied the tank 3 times every 24 hours. By mid week it had settled down to twice in 24hrs, and by the end of the week once in 24hrs with the unit only switching itself on once every other hour for about 30 minutes to regulate the humidity. The difference is incredible;
    – The air is light and fresh again, the cold doesn’t feel cold, the place retains heat unbelievably better and when we do turn the heating on, 10 minutes as we are toasty again!
    – Mould has stopped
    – Damp/condensation has all cleared up, windows are now perfectly clear again and walls dry!
    – The solid oak doors have shrunk, this sounds weird but when we moved in they were fine. Then after a few months we noticed we couldn’t shut them properly, swelling due to the humidity. Now just just glide shut again!
    – Clothes no longer smell or are damp.
    – Clothes actually dry! And so does the bathroom!
    – Generally, it’s a much nicer place to be, more homely and fresh

The unit itself is so far brilliant; well made, stylish, efficient and quiet (bedroom door shut you cannot hear it). I’m still amazed just how much water comes out of the air when emptying the tank!!

Great for small/medium apartments, highly recommended!

This product was the 3rd dehumidifier I have bought from Amazon to deal with a damp problem I have in my kitchen where a particularly cold wall meets the warm air of the centrally heated room. Its the first one that actually worked and extracted any water at all from the surrounding atmosphere (despite the kitchen being ~18 degrees C with a relative humidity of around 60 – 80 % for most of the time). So full marks for actually doing what it says on the box.

ATM as the problem has remained unresolved while I gave the last two candidates a sporting chance to perform It is extracting about a tank-full of water a day. From previous experience with a de-longhi model that this was purchased to replace (still works fine but its getting old and rattly) I expect this to go down once the problem is bought under control and the humidity in this part of the room starts to drop a bit.

As to the particular merits of this model. Its reasonably compact (for its type) most of the more compact models (that I would have preferred) tend to be Peltier (electrostatic) devices that even if they deign to work (the one I tried did absolutely nothing) do not extract as much moisture from the air as do compressor type (IE this model) dehumidifiers.

Its controls are straightforward and easy to understand. The control panel includes a display of the rooms current relative humidity and the tank is easy to remove and empty even if it is rather bizarrely located at the back of the unit.

Its fans run reasonably silently so its not a conversation killer.

The only negative thing I would say about it is its qute heavy to pick up and only features a lip at the back of the unit to serve as a handle. If you are in reasonable physical condition then moving it wont be a problem but if you are a bit frail or need mobility aids then shifting this could be less straightforward.

Apart from that I’m well pleased with mine, its tidy, quiet and effective.

I have no ventilation in my bedroom and have developed a black mould problem. Did some research on dehumidifiers and this came highly recommended. Grabbed one off of Amazon and the only regret that I have is not getting one earlier! I personally couldn’t sleep with it running in the background although to be fair I have yet to find many products that claim to be sleep friendly are anywhere near as quite as claimed and in fairness the higher fan setting is A LOT quieter than my parents unit from some brand that I’ve never heard of and it does have a lower setting that’s not too loud so probably OK for heavy sleepers. Its easy to set up and relatively portable. The back comes off easily enough without feeling cheap and unstable and there is a cover on the drainage part to help prevent water spillage when emptying. The only thing that they could have mentioned and to be fair its probably me lacking common sense but when you switch the unit off, give it a while before emptying as some water will continue to drain for a short while after turning it off and although it wasn’t bad it did release some water when I went to empty it too soon the first time round. To conclude if you lack ventilation its an absolutely great purchase that takes in a lot of liquid from the moisture in your rooms and it does seem to leave my bedroom feeling a bit fresher after using it in the morning.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI used a bit cheaper dehumidifier, which is still working, but the low built quality cause it to make quite a lot of noise. This caused my wife to do not keep it on most of the time and the result was logical – damp flat, with a lot of condensation on the windows, followed by mold on the ceilings and walls, plus God know what in the air. I decided to buy this one, because it has two fan settings and it is advertised for up to three bedroom house, which sounds good to me – I’m in two bedroom flat. The result was more than better. The low fan speed is still noticeable, but the build quality is much better, which makes it quiet even for night time operation. We left it running all day, set up on 50% and it managed to collect around two tanks for 24 hours. Plus, we left the internal doors open and there wasn’t any condensation on the windows anymore. The air changed too and now it doesn’t feel stuffy any more and the mold is gone, of course, after treatment with mold solvent (we did this before, but it came back after two-three weeks). In general – great deal, considering the price. I just hope, that it’ll be still running after few years, like my old one, minus the noise. It blows the dried air upright, which is quite useful for laundry drying – you could place it just under laundry rack. There is laundry drying button, as well, but as long as I understand it just keep the dehumidifier in continuous mode. Another handy option is the timer – you could set it for delay start.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI have a small dehumidifier for my kitchen which has been good, but I wanted a larger one that would do the job in the conservatory in which we placed a panel heater to help dry out washing during the winter, but as this was going to create a lot of condensation it was important to keep this at bay. We also wanted something that wasn’t going to cost a fortune to run and after reading the reviews for this Meaco, I thought I’d give this a whirl and I’m very glad we did.

There is an easy to use interface which enables you to set the required humidity level (we set ours to the recommended setting of 55) and you can set it to run on either high or low (depending on how much the area needs dehumidifying). You basically just switch it on and leave it running and it will switch on and off automatically when the humidity rises over the set level until it brings it down again. This it does without having to fiddle with it, therefore it pretty much runs itself.
There is an additional function – “laundry” – which you can switch on – designed for once you’ve hung up your washing and it drags the moisture out of the air faster. This function runs for 6 hours and then switches off. The only downside with this is that (from what I have experienced, so far at least), once the 6 hours has passed on laundry mode the machine doesn’t automatically restart and you have remember to go back and switch it on again, which is a bit of a pain (I expect there may be a way to set it so this doesn’t happen, but I haven’t worked it out yet). You also have to check on it every so often to make sure the water collection isn’t full as the machine will switch off then too. Apart from that, you can leave it on to do its thing.

The amount of water this machine has pulled out is astronomical!! I can honestly say we have not had ONE drop of condensation since using it. We also have a smart meter and can see that it doesn’t use a lot, despite being on 24/7. I am SO impressed and extremely glad I bought it. I told my parents about it and they have now bought exactly the same one, for the same reasons and they are also equally impressed and over the moon with the difference it has made.

I would recommend this dehumidifier to anyone.

Golden Review Award: 14 From Our UsersWith the onset of autumn we had noticed mould appearing around the windows of our home, and on some of the colder external walls. We deduced that the problem was drying our laundry inside; we don’t have a tumble dryer and as a family of five including a baby, there’s a fair amount of laundry! Anyway, we wanted to do something about the mould, and decided on this dehumidifier.

EFFECTIVENESS: this dehumidifier is extremely effective. It lives in our utility room, and when we first got it the humidity was 88%! It ran constantly for a couple of days, and has now brought it down to the recommended 55%, and basically only turns itself on when there is laundry drying. Our home is 100 sq m, a small four bed, and this dehumidifier seems perfectly adequate for us. There is no longer condensation on the bedroom windows in the morning. We removed the mould when it arrived, and it hasn’t reappeared.

LAUNDRY: A happy side effect is that we can now dry two full loads of laundry in under 24 hours, and our utility room is only about 18C. Very nice not to have laundry hanging everywhere all the time.

COST: I let everything settle down, and then started measuring energy usage. Over a full week, the dehumidifier used 9kWh, which on our energy tariff is 1.20. This fits with what I expected as our electricity bill has gone up by about 5 a month. Over that week I ran 7 loads of laundry of varying sizes, and emptied the dehumidifier tank 3 times.

NOISE: It is quite noisy, I would say similar to an air conditioning unit. We had it in our living room for one evening, just to see, and I wouldn’t want it in there permanently, but I don’t notice it in the utility room.

OVERALL: I am really pleased with this purchase. We are quite frugal, so I was concerned about the running costs, but as we will only use it in the winter (laundry goes outside in the summer), I anticipate running costs of about 35 a year, which is a small price to pay for a mould free home, and laundry drying in one day rather than three (and even then feeling a bit damp). The alternative for us was to purchase a tumble dryer, but I think this is cheaper both to purchase and in running costs, and kinder on our clothes too.

Golden Review Award: 55 From Our UsersI’m new to dehumidifiers so I don’t have much to compare it to. That being said it does exactly what I expected it to do when I bought it…
My flat is a modern (c. 2005) two bed, with good insulation, about 60sqm / 600 sqft in size.
I have smart humidity sensors (Netatmo) in all the rooms, and I connected the dehumidifier in the hallway just outside the bathroom, on a smart plug with power measurement (TP-Link HS110).

I left the device on as advised in the manual, with a target humidity of 55% which seems to be a consensus for homes. On this mode it will continuously monitor the humidity and start up when it deems it necessary. It stops automatically when the desired humidity level is reached or the tank is full.
It has a full power fan setting which I can clearly hear from the room next door with the door open, and a lower fan setting which can be still heard if you are in the same room but isn’t that annoying. It also has a sleep mode in which on top of running with the lower power fan mode it disables all lighting and beeping e.g. tank full alert. I keep it on that mode always, arguably it means I have to check the tank myself but in the end I only have to empty it every two weeks or so. I wouldn’t actually sleep next to it though that would probably be a bit annoying.

Thanks to my smart devices I have some nice graphics with the electricity consumption and the humidity in the flat. The effect of the device in humidity is visible on the graphs, but it did take several days before the humidity in the flat stabilized to around the desired level (from about 70 down to 55%). During those initial days it was running almost constantly and I had to empty the tank every day. Since the humidity reached good levels it got much less busy and the tank doesn’t get full in a week.
The story is similar with power, where during the first days it was running at 3KWh/day, down to 0.11KWh/day in the past 7 days. Note that your mileage may vary greatly, depends on the size of the flat, draft, insulation, temperature, central heating activity etc… I’ll only know the full picture after a full year has passed I reckon, but I’m expecting a few pounds a month running cost at max.

    It doesn’t look bad either.

Also to note you need to keep the doors open if you want it to work on your whole house. If you don’t you’ll probably need more than one device.

All in all a good purchase. The only features that it’s missing is proper connected stuff: remote management, etc. Not a deal-breaker though.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersWe’re a family of 3 with a 15 month old, and have been air-drying inside for years now.
Our place is a top floor maisonette, and suffers the standard airflow, stuffiness, humidity – but not as bad as ground floor.

Previously we were doing things like:
Keeping bathroom windows open for hours after a shower
Keeping bedroom windows near the clothes rack partially open whilst they dry
Drying clothes, which would take up to 3 days in the colder winter months
Airing the place and opening the loft hatch to get more airflow around
Dealing with the cold as a result
Burning plenty of gas on the central heating

It took around a day or two of pretty much continuous use for the air to drop from average 70% humidity to 50-55%. The target is 55% by the way.

The unit has a two-digit display that simply shows humidity by default, and LC when you lock it. The child lock is SUCH a good feature as our little fella will play drums on the top and push buttons (thankfully he hasn’t worked out that holding the fan down for >2 seconds disengages it).

    Pros
Top one first – heating and ambient temperature are now reduced and increased respectively. This is incredible. For example: we have hardly used the heating since it turned cold and if we do, it takes SIGNIFICANTLY less time to warm the place due to the reduced humidity (we’re talking well under half the time). This means less on gas bills, and a marginal increase in electricity – I’ve checked and already have made a saving on last year’s gas and overall saving when including the electricity uplift. As ambient temperature has gone up, less heating is required overall – we average 19 degrees now.
All of this means that the bathroom doesn’t really need to have the windows open when taking a shower – obviously a prolonged bath would still necessitate it, but things in the bath dry quicker too.
We place it in the landing area, which connects all doors to all rooms, and within an hour, humidity will now get from 60 down to 50 having used it for a few weeks. I’ve seen it go as low as 46.
The humidity reading is fairly accurate – The Nest thermostat reads almost the same (2%), and the Dyson tower fan cooler has the same margin of error.
Drying clothes inside now takes mere hours, even in the winter months (as of writing), this includes bed sheets, though obviously bathmats will take longer if they’re really heavy cotton. You can also use a 6 hour program for this with one button.
The air feels cleaner and less heavy, and smells from cooking linger less – obviously YMMV on this, but when we do fish for example, the whole place doesn’t stink for days now
I recommend placing the unit with the rear (intake), TOWARDS the source of damp – washed clothes, bathroom etc. as it will suck this in and then pass out dried air. This works best in my testing.
You can connect it in and run it permanently, if you choose to buy a hose, noting that it doesn’t ship with one to cut down on plastic waste.
The tank takes on average a good 16 hours to fill in normal use, sometimes a day, especially if the air is already fairly dry and warm. Even drying clothes, I’ve had it run for almost 20 hours and it’s not been quite full.
I use the water tank to flush the toilet to save water there.
The display can be turned off at night, so no annoying bright-LEDs to keep you awake.

Cons, not that there are many:
It makes a beep when turning on (and just connecting to mains), child locking/unlocking, removing the water tray ( 5 beeps), and whilst not particularly loud, I’d like a way of turning this off.
The unit filter is just a basic mesh, it’s not HEPA, nor can I find a replacement filter that will fit that is HEPA. I decided not to bother with the HEPA as this is supposedly quieter and more efficient than the next model, and we have a Dyson fan that has a HEPA filter already.
When pulling the tray out while operational, there is a short delay while it trips out – meaning there will be a few drips of water. Not much, but worth mentioning.
There is no way to angle the fan – it’s locked in a slightly-off vertical angle. This has never been an issue, but if you want to point it – look at another model.
It’s fairly heavy, but again, nothing for an average adult.
The handle for moving it at the back will tilt it due to the centre of gravity, which means if the tank is relatively full, it’ll spill, so use two hands to keep it upright.

In hindsight, I would possibly have gone for the HEPA model and tolerated whatever increase in noise was present, but for now and with a continuous month of usage, this was absolutely worth the money and will likely pay for itself just in this winter period alone.

Golden Review Award: 13 From Our UsersArrived as promised, looks great and I am very pleased. (See bottom of this review for additional comments after one and a half months use.)
Ok so this review is after less than one day but I am exceptionally pleased. The instructions are simple and it worked straight from the box. In less than 5 mins I had checked the instructions and it was running. It looks good the controls are simple and it works as it says. I am particularly pleased that it switches off when the required humidity is reached but checks the air now and then and automatically restarts if the humidity rises. I have nothing to compare it with but it is doing what it says and taking water out of the air and I am delighted. I looked hard at the reviews and while there are slightly cheaper options this one really stood out as reliable and effective.
It says it is quiet and it is quiet on the low setting, but I wouldn’t want it in the bedroom, perhaps I would get use to it but I am a bit sensitive to noise. The high setting is still not noisy though, it is not in the room I mainly use and I can hear it but in general the sound is lost in the general daily white noise of a home, like the central heating boiler and passing cars etc.
Visually I like that the water tank is situated at the back, it leaves a lovely smooth white presentation with rounded corners, I think they have worked hard at its appearance and it doesn’t look out of place in my home. Practically though I find it awkward to reach over and remove the water tank from the back but I guess it will be easier after I have had to do it a few times and got the hang of it (* see comment later). But I am happy to have a little difficulty to get the neat smooth appearance.
So I have no hesitation with giving it 5 stars in all areas but have not rated energy efficiency as I have not had it long enough. From my present perspective I have no hesitation in recommending this product, I think you will be very pleased with it.
I will come back to this review and add more when I have had it for a few months.
:- – Second Review – Well after 50 days I am still delighted, it has worked solidly every day. When the outside humidity is high and the house humidity rises this unit takes out more than 6 lt in 24 hours – this is good for a domestic appliance at normal room temperature. I have found that it works almost as well at low speed as it does at full speed, still taking out lots of moisture. The house feels different.
It is worth experimenting with the location to get the best extraction rate. It is important to give it space around the back so you cant pop it tight in a corner and expect it to be excellent, the instructions say 50 cm clearance, probably good but i’m finding 35 cm works well in a central airy location.
It seems to be coping well with a 2 bedroom chalet bungalow.
Defiantly 5 stars and I am still delighted.

Bought this for my mum who has a major damp problem in her basement level flat. The damp was causing a pungent scent in the apartment and also clothes would take weeks to dry after a wash – there was also peeling paint on the walls and a general feeling of dampness in the fabrics around the place. Since we set this up all that has gone, the paint stopped peeling and the clothes dry fast and the pungent scent is probably 70% reduced.

At first I felt I ought to have bought the 12L rather than the 10L – but now I realise that I made the correct decision because that only refers to max ‘capability’ in a 24 hour period. The fact is that both have the same size collection tray and therefore once it is full the device stops running until it has been emptied anyway. Also running at max power it only seems to drain a full tank every 20-24 hours so the larger capacity (and consequently bigger price tag) would have made no difference

More than happy with this purchase – highly recommended to anyone living in the UK – which is rather like living in a swamp – this device manages a 2 bed flat quite comfortably – it has a hum of an engine so definitely you would not want any of these running in a bedroom at night (unless you either sleep easily or have an atrocious damp issue that simply needs dealing with).

On a scale of 1-10 of severity of damp problem I would have rated ours at a 7 and this single device has had a significant impact on that so it goes without saying that it works and is highly recommended

it’s too soon to say what effect it is having on the electricity drain but the material suggests that it burns about 1.5p an hour which is a fair price to pay to have a dry, clean and comfortable environment to live i

First of all I must admit I haven’t got anything to compare this with as it’s my first dehumidifier, but it certainly does a job! I have a small, two-bedroom bungalow with a condensation problem – in the autumn I would spent the first ten minutes of each day mopping water off the insides of the windows and I was getting black mould and peeling wallpaper around doors and windows. This dehumidifier was said to be able to cope with a three bedroom house so I thought it should be well enough for my little place. I set it to work straight out of the box – just set the desired humidity to 55 as recommended, plonked it down in the centre of the house and switched it on ‘high’. I *could not believe* how much water came out of the air! You have to empty it pretty regularly although it simply switches off when it’s full. It took about three days to get the humidity levels in the house down, and now my condensation problem seems to have gone (and my washing dries super fast!). They say it costs 2.4p an hour to run, which is about 18 a month if you have it set constantly on high. This seems quite a lot, but I can’t actually imagine life without it now. It isn’t particularly quiet – on the ‘high’ fan setting you might not want it close to where you sleep, although it’s a very calm, constant white noise sound which could even be quite soporific if you’re not the sort to let it bother you. The sound has been compared to a really old laptop fan – I’d say it’s slightly louder but a nicer kind of sound. The ‘low’ fan setting is much quieter. Sometimes it doesn’t stop dehumidifying at 55, and I’ve had to reboot it a couple of times, but I’m generally delighted with this item and now can’t imagine i’d ever want to be without it.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersDespite only having received my friend Meaco today I am delighted with the product. I did have a deLonghi DNC-65 last time I lived somewhere with a damp problem, I thought they were the best there was, and was in the market for another. They discontinued that so I had to look elsewhere. As much as I hankered for another DNC-65 I very much like this Maeco chump. The meaningful gauge is new to me, We are now down to 58 and only been plugged in this evening. The mould which was going to run rampant and had started is now fully under control, I won’t have the respiratory problems I had after a cold. The cold forced me to stay in bed for a couple of days, enough time for my breathing to cause a damp-mould health nightmare. I was making myself ill!

The noise from Maeco is fine as far as white noise goes. It means not being able to hear as clearly so typing on a keyboard is muted. I suppose it is like low grade tinnitus. Maybe conducive to doing work and focused concentration. The rest of the world is blocked out. I am on the high fan speed setting writing that and the low speed setting does not mean silence.

The round edges are nice, it makes it easier to move the thing around. I am going to go for ‘bone dry’ until the novelty wears off. I do like the idea of getting that dial down to 30 – the lowest. 50 is probably what I will go for when the novelty wears off, with Maeco just turning on as needed. This feature of auto on/off makes a huge difference to the utility of the device, I don’t have to guestimate how long to leave it on for.

Coming from what I thought was the best in dehumidifiers and just wanting a quick solution with Maeco, I can say I am truly delighted and would recommend to anyone who needs to sort their damp problems out.

so far just writing a review after the first use. I’ve been using a 12 year old dessicant dehumidifier and although I still think that machine is great I have been aware of how much electricity it uses. This one uses less than 3 times as little and has been running on minimal mode most the time today so will pay for itself in no time.
The first thing I must note is how quiet it is. I know I went for the quietest I could find but I am surprised at how little it hums, as quiet as my dessicant one I would say.
I am still getting used to how it actually works, there is very very little info in the manual. Like once it reaches the set humidity what does it do next. One time I checked on it it had turned itself off, another time it switches from full power to minimum power, at the moment it is sitting at 1% above the set temperature and is off, does it turn itself back on if humidity reaches a certain point again? I hope so but so far working great and saving power.
It seems like a good purchase. Doing exactly what I wanted it to do, being slightly more powerful than my last one I think. So I would recommend it – however I have a few of small niggles with it
-first the bad manual and what it actually does once it reaches the set humidity
    – second is the water tray is at the back of the unit. This bothers me. On my last one the tray was on the same side as the controls so all straightforward and easy to get to. Minor niggle really that just means the controls are basically upside down the way I like to use it – ie able to change reservoir fast and easily. The unit looks better with the water level indicator forwards anyway so yes slight design flaw.
    – this is nothing wrong about the unit , it’s just my last one had a directional flap to direct the exiting air in any direction. I really liked that feature which I will miss but not a deal breaker.
    – and lastly one more niggle I have is that although it seems more powerful at reducing humidity than my last machine, where my last machine would have pulled out 1l of water from the air this machine did not produce any water. I could see it was working great but I was wondering where the water was going, until eventually it started coming out. All this means to me is that once used for the first time the machine will be filled with 0.5-1l of water. This is probably how all compressor dehumidifiers work and maybe nothing to worry about but will it last 12 years if it is filled with water all the time is my only concern.
Overall despite the cons, liking this machine for what it is doing and probably the best I could find for my purpose.
I will update if I have anything more to add.

so far just writing a review after the first use.

Golden Review Award: 30 From Our UsersI liked everything about this product. First of all it does exactly what it claims to do. I purchased the product for a garden room which I have recently had built. There was significant moisture from the plaster walls drying out and the subsequent painting. I took the dehumidifier out of the box, read the instructions and within a few hours the humidity in the room was down from 87% to a recommended 55%. About a liter of water had been extracted from the atmosphere and the holding tank was easy to access and empty. The dehumidifier is easy to maneuver and looks good. I like the fact that once it has reached the set humidity it goes to standby and monitors and only switches back on again if it senses a rise in humidity. I have not had it long enough to assess if it is cheap to run but if it matches the advertised rate of just over 2p an hour that that is fine with me. Finally, I do not have anything to compare it with since it is my first humidifier, but I think it is super quiet, as advertised. I would recommend this product and I like it that much I am thinking about getting a second one for my conservatory. The price may seem a bit high at 160, however, I am a great advocate of “you get what you pay for”

Golden Review Award: 313 From Our UsersI bought this to combat condensation on our sash windows and to lower the humidity level in our one-bedroom flat which was causing damp walls during the winter months.

After some research I decided on Meaco as they have a great reputation for quality dehumidifiers. I was about to purchase the Meaco DD8L which is a *desiccant* dehumidifier but decided to wait a few more months for the release of this new machine. The DD8L (desiccant) is a very quiet machine (37db) that warms the air slightly as it runs (perfect for cold spaces – boats caravans etc) but they do cost a little more to run. *Compressor* dehumidifiers like this one (the Meaco ABC) are cheaper to run (just over 2p an hour). Up until recently, compressor dehumidifiers were quite noisy, so the desiccant machines were the more popular option for small properties. The Meaco ABC is a compressor but at just 35db it is the quietest dehumidifier available.. so it really is the best of both worlds.

The Meaco ABC is small and looks far more pleasing to the eye than any other dehumidifier I could find. It has a humidistat which regulates the humidity to your chosen level (ours is set to 50 or 45 when it’s really cold outside). Once it reaches this level it switches itself off and then regularly tests the air from time to time to detect when to switch itself back on to dehumidify again. The 2.6 L tank at the back is easy to empty, the machine switches itself off when the tank is full. There is also a continuous drainage outlet but you will need to find your own (standard gardening) hose for this. This has a laundry drying setting which runs the machine at the higher fan speed (40db) for six hours then switches off. If you’re buying specifically for clothes drying then you might look to a larger machine.

Within the first couple of hours the machine had extracted over a litre of water from the air. I can already feel the difference with the quality of the air in our flat and the walls have completely dried out. The big test will be this winter when the temperature drops outside, so I’ll update this review in a few months time. I will also update this review if I run into any problems. So far I’m very impressed.

    Edit (December 2018)
This is an amazing little machine. There is now no damp at all, the flat feels much dryer and warmer and consequently uses less energy to heat. The floors have stopped creaking and I’ve noticed bread stays fresher for longer. On very cold days there is still a little condensation on the windows but this has been greatly reduced. I don’t believe it is possible to completely stop this in our flat with any dehumidifier.

I have the machine placed not too close to a radiator and in-between rooms with all doors left open as often as possible. It *easily* regulates the RH of our one bed flat. The machine switches itself off for an average of about 35% of each 24hrs. It’s very quiet for a dehumidifier (similar to a modern air-con machine). I would still prefer not to have it in the bedroom though (although I could get used to it easily enough). I never notice the sound during the day.

If you’re looking for a small, quiet, efficient dehumidifier.. this is the one for you.

    Quiet, economical and aesthetically pleasing.
