I had a different camera that you had to go to a website to get the video and it was a pain . I bought this for my crazy 1 hour commute and its great it connects with my phone when the car starts and I can see the video right away if there’s an accident or if I get stopped. Love it so much I got another for my son that started driving and another for his brother who is just starting to drive.
This is the best idea for new drivers , if something happens they can show the police on the seen what happened
I haven’t had to use this dashcam as evidence for anything badyet. But its still better to have it around in the case something does happen.
The included cloud storage feature is very nice for storing most of your videos, just have to make sure your phone is connected to power so you don’t run the battery down, which I don’t mind too much since my Apple CarPlay connectivity is wired only.
Easy to install, easy to work the app. Great product.
Pros: This camera brand is extremely user friendly, and easy to set up in less than 5 minutes. I enjoy that all the recordings go to the free app, instead of just a memory card. The image quality is crystal clear as well.
Cons: the life span of my first Nexar camera was a little over one year. So be prepared that you may need to replace the camera eventually. I will edit my review in one year if this new camera holds up.
I’ve used several dash cans since they come out. The Nexar camera is by far the best and easiest to use. Excellent value for the money.
I’m loving the Nexar Beam so far. I am praying it doesn’t fail due to heat like my others, but I did get the extended warranty just in case.
This dashcam has been great. I ended up have a faulty camera or something. However, Nexar customer service was awesome!
Great Camera, so far have worked great, only downside is that the plastic feels cheap. But works perfect , which is what matters.
I’ve had it for almost a year and it’s been great. It works great with the app and its very reliable.
good camera quality captures sound as well and is great to just see the footage right away and make a clip for insurance purposes. However, it’s not the best when it comes to transmitting videos. Parking incidents take a lot of time to upload to the cloud and sometimes it forgets to record!
EDIT: Nexar has issued me a replacement. I will be keeping this review up but they did fix the problem fast and no questions asked.
Battery puffed up after 8-9months of use. I’m no longer eligible for refund or replacement but I will not be having this in my car any longer because of the battery.
Surprised to see that when you have a hard break incident, it marks this as a separate clip so no need to watch a whole video to find the part where someone almost ran into you. Pleased with results on our vacation that involved many hours of driving.
32gb is enough since u got unlimited cloud storage it records without your phone the transfer for a 37min drive to maybe 3-5 min. Night drives are good to has audio Def worth having.
It’s fine they have finally updated the app to not kill your phone battery. I wish it would automatically save events to your phone and not the whole video. But it always saves to the SD card and half the time to your phone. The picture quality is fine I can read license plates when they are close and sometimes when they are moving. It’s better than most of the cheaper ones out there
Downside is that you have to download an app (which is nothing complicated) and connect it with your Wi-Fi. I am having trouble to connect it in front of my house as my phone is keep connecting to my Wi-Fi at home and not the actual camera. Other than that it’s really good and easy to use. Definitely worth the money.
I’m holding onto it until I find a better one
Great Dashcam, easy to use, love the app, would definitley recommend
Very good picture quality. We went a trip to Yosemite and I am so glad this was on because we recorded all the way.
I went back and forth on a bunch of different Dash cams and landed on this one because of its price and reputation. Now having it, heres pros and cons IMO:
Pros: Very quick app and account setup, Local storage, continuous record, detection alerts, auto on/off, comes with long cord so you can mount by rearview mirror and snake it all the way back to a center console usb port (comes with a 12v adapter which is dual usb too) and comes with a bunch of clicks and tools to hide the cable. Mounting the camera with suction cup, hiding the wire (2019 Ford F150) and setting it up took a max of 35mins to make sure it looks nice.
Cons: Wish the camera had a bit of a wider lenses, camera feels very plasticy and is 1080p quality.
With that 10/10 would buy again, and recommended. Hope this helps some people with the 1000’s of cheap and crap “Dash Cams” out there.
Overall good. Not 5 stars because: the power cord is too short for larger vehicles to reach a center console outlet and the cam doesn’t automatically connect to your phone if you have a competing Wi-Fi signal that you typically use (ex. Home).
Cloud storage as being one of their main advertising points is almost useless, the cloud uploaded videos are chopped up and in the worst quality possible, cut into 30 second clips with Timelapse mode. Definitely horrible there.
Wifi always has to be on for the camera to record, if u accidentally left it off it won’t record. Example: it can get annoying having the wifi on outside the house in the driveway where connection is bad, but if u turn it off then it won’t record
Since cloud storage is basically useless, make sure you have storage on your phone because if you want to see a video through there then you need storage so it can save them, if not then you have to get ur computer every time to see what the sd card has.
Motion sensing is ok but I wish I could see through the camera when the car is parked and be notified of when someone touches my car when I’m away from it, not when I get in it.
Overall it’s still a good camera, definitely in comparison to other dash cams is the high quality one of the bunch.
This is my third dash cam, and I am both technologically impaired AND impatient. This one was super easy to setup (in the app), very easy to install, and doesn’t require any extra effort to actually get the videos right on your phone. I wish there were a rear-facing add-on camera, but overall there are no complaints on my end. Even the suction works way better than the other two I’ve had in the past.
Seems to be a great product so far. Easy to set up and use. Two things to note, since besides storing the videos on the SIM card it also stores the videos local on your phone if connected so it may use up a lot of phone memory. Also it kills the battery life. Neither of these are a huge issue for me so I would still give it 5 stars. Price is very reasonable. I did upgrade the SIM card from the standard to a 256G for more video storage. Very easy to run the cable around the dash with the included tool.
Not able to record when car turned off. Default parking guard didn’t work. It will give you parking alerts only when registered device is not in car.
Pros: Picture quality, app ease of use, videos streaming / saving to your phone quickly.
Cons: Drains your phone battery! Does not start recording as soon as you leave, sometimes misses first 5 minutes of the drive.
When I first installed this, I had it plugged into an outlet that was always powered. The camera relied on motion and precise location from my phone to know when to record. This used about 90% of my battery, killing my new iPhone 13 Pro Max by 6pm. Using the “phone battery optimization” and “outlet power always on” options in the app did nothing. If I turned off location or motion services, it never recorded anything unless I manually started recording. I had to wire a new outlet specifically for the camera that turned on / off with the ignition to solve this issue.
Otherwise, the camera works fine. The video quality is very good and I like the app. The only downside right now is that I cannot figure out how to start the recording as soon as it powers on. Sometimes I miss the first 3-5 minutes of the drive.
Good picture quality and has only fallen off window once. Does turn on randomly so I get alot of phone notifications. Other then that pretty great.
As long as you keep your phone plugged up also it works great. The picture quality is great. The compact size is also nice.
While using the app on my phone, I tried to update firmware as suggested. Suddenly red light in the unit flashed and power was switched off. No matter how I changed power cables and tried charging it in the car or in the house, the power was not restored. So disappointing!
I just purchased my second one from my work vehicle I have a dash cam in my work truck already but it just works off of a memory card this dash cam actually loads the footage straight to your phone at first I could not get it to automatically turn on when I got in my vehicle but after understanding the app it turns on every time I get in my vehicle and turns off every time I get out of it. The video quality is excellent and the app is easy to use it’s easy to clip the video and send it in a text message email or however you want to send it. Buy it!!!
EXPERIENCE: Used it on our 21 hour drive to Florida. In stop and go traffic we had a hard breaking incident and a notification came up that it felt the hard breaking event and it was automatically saving the clip (it obviously turned out to be nothing), but it was great that that it was automatic and I wouldn’t have to worry if something bad would happen because the clip would automatically be saved.
The only reason I don’t give it 5 stars is it comes with a dual plug to go into the charging port in my car. Very thoughtful of Nexar, right? That way the camera always stays plugged in and there is another port for charging a phone. HOWEVER, for some reason every time someone tried to plug another charger into the 2nd outlet port, it would blow the fuse on my car. It took me a while to figure out the problem the first time. (Camera setup was like 5 minutes and everything worked great, then I plugged my phone charging cord in and was going for a drive then nothing worked. Like WTH???). By process of elimination figured it out (had a spare fuse) and all was good (and the fuse was only for the cig lighter/charging port so nothing else was affected.) Until hubs decided to charge his phone in the spare port and same thing happened again. No spare fuse, so had to wait to go buy a new one. I bought a couple, which was good cause child then plugged in phone for charging and there went fuse again. So now there is duct tape over the spare charging port and we had to get a longer charging cord to use the back seat charger (which is a minor inconvenience). Unfortunately, only 1 phone can be charged at a time then (we have not tried to see if dual charger in the back would work for 2 phones at once without blowing the fuse), but that is literally my only criticism of the camera. And I do not know if this is a problem with my car (20 amp fuse is standard for these ports) so somehow the camera and phone together overloaded the fuse, but not sure if it is the camera’s fault or charger or my car.)
Otherwise, it is VERY easy to read the instructions and set the camera to automatically turn on when a drive starts and to also run in the background so your phone works 100% normal while recording what is going on while driving (the exception could be if you want a different wifi in the vehicle since it uses it’s own wifi system to connect with a phone, but we don’t have car wifi or anything so had no issues with that either.)
I’ve only had the camera in my 2020 Jeep Rubicon for about a week and it’s a pretty nice compact, little camera that is suctioned on the windshield right behind the rear view mirror so it is out of the way. The field of view and quality of the video is really good and it starts and stops recording automatically. The videos are always on my phone and easily accessible. My only complaint is the camera doesn’t start recording right away. My parking spot is two levels down and my videos usually start when I am exiting the parking garage which I estimate to be about 20-30 seconds. If an accident were to occur in that period of time I would have no video of it. Not sure if this is normal or if a setting needs to be adjusted. Overall, 4 out of 5 for quality and price.
Great camera but the auto start recording feature needs some improvement. It wont start recording until you move in the GPS and even after that, there is always a 1 minute delay and by that time you have drive a good 3-4 blocks already without any recording.
Install the camera in my vehicle, hid the wire as best I could. Picture quality is 1080p pretty smooth. Good audio can hear the road noises like horns, motorcycles, tires, etc.
cons- uses your phone for steaming and location, will kill phone battery if not plugged i
Power usage is pretty harsh, and hard to stick to wimdow, but works fine
& I’m not sure why people are saying you have to have the app open to start recording, but you don’t. You just have to have it on the auto drive setting and it asks you at set up. You don’t have to do anything but start your car and drive. You don’t need to touch the app unless you want to look back at your videos.
I would give this camera 5 stars, but it keeps starting drives while I am in my home any time I walk to the side of my house where my vehicle is parked, rather than when I start my vehicle. The auto stop does not seem to work at all; I have had to manually end drives every time.
That being said, the unit is compact enough to hide behind my rear view mirror and out of my line of sight from the driver seat, the video quality is excellent both day and night, the setup was pretty straightforward, and editing clips from full drives is a breeze on the Nexar app.
Overall, I guess that having a live stream to my phone that is easily stored and edited is a fair trade off for some overzealous connectivity.
This dashcam has been super useful to me and I like the security of knowing that my drives are being recorded. With that being said, occasionally, my dash cam won’t start recording for the first 15 minutes of my daily drive which is really frustrating, even though it doesn’t happen often at all. Another thing is that the one time I did have to show my footage as evidence, the video glitched right as the other vehicle hit my car, missing the most important part of the accident.
Even though there are some minor problems with the app and the video itself, the picture quality is good, its very discrete, and it has done it’s job the majority of the time. To me, it was worth the money to invest in this. It really helped me to prove I was not at fault in the accident that I was in.
These are super easy to use, plug and play, you can download the app save your clips or email them, super easy. Love these, we have 3 of them!
Pros: The video quality is really good. The Nexar app is very user friendly and records all the trips automatically once you sync your phone with the dash cam. You also have an option to select memory space on your phone to store the videos. This buy is spectacular value for money. GPS an added bonus in case your car lacks Apple CarPlay or Anroid Auto.
Cons: Not sure how useful is the parking feature since it records the car front once collision or disturbance is identified.
Overall an amazing product ,
Cheers
Overall, good dash cam. There are limitations.. if you have wireless apple car play in your car, this dash cam is NOT for you. You are not able to use this dash cam and the wireless apple car play as the cam uses your wifi. Parking mode is hit and miss, other limitations include draining battery of your mobile device as your phone is used in the background whilst it is recording. Good quality and convenient with it being stored on your device, however parts of your drive will be blurred for 2-3 seconds randomly every couple of mins (not a massive deal but would be bad luck if it inconveniently blurs out as an incident happens)
The incidents and sensors are very good, if you break abruptly or accelerate it will detect and record accordingly in a clip.
The biggest pain when it comes to dashcam is getting the footage to your phone and the fear that you did not save that critical footage! Well not with this camera! It records the whole drive to your phone AUTOMATICALLY!!!! Then by simply saying “Hey Siri, Capture the moment” it will create a seperate clip from 10 seconds before the command and about 30 seconds long! I know it’s crazy! I love this camera my only negative is that you can add another camera for the back 🙁 Otherwise this would have been a 5 Star!
This dash cam is amazing, first of all. Amazing picture quality, and extremely simple to set up. Once set up, it instantly streams the video to your phone. The only problem I experienced, is my car’s infotainment system is basically built around CarPlay or android Auto. This camera will not work with that. The reason is, when your phone connects to the vehicle via Bluetooth, it disables your WiFi. Not sure why, but it does, and there’s no way to make CarPlay work with wifi on. Well, this camera connects to your phone via a WiFi connection. So if you don’t have CarPlay or Android auto, or you just don’t use it, this camera will be perfect. However, If you’re like me and need your gps everywhere you go, and you want it on your car’s screen, you might want to look for another dash cam.
*cold weather -10C and lower, camera shuts itself off and won’t function until vehicle warms up. Consider a different camera.
Overall the camera works pretty well. It took me 10-15 minutes to get it synced with my phone and the cable hidden around the frame of the car and after that, it’s pretty much been plug and play. I recently drove for 5 1/2 hours and it had no problem running and recording the whole time. The picture quality seems decent, enough that you can see license plate numbers pretty clearly from 10-15 feet away. After that point it starts becoming pixelated. Usually I manually hit start drive in the app, but it does automatically record if you don’t. I’ve had 0 issues so far.
One thing I appreciate is that you can shut off sound recording. I wasn’t sure of that when I made my purchase. I tend to sing and talk and swear at other drivers while I drive. If that footage is being used in an insurance claim or heaven forbid a lawsuit, the last thing I want is to have my antics recorded.
I’ve had a couple parking incidents detected but both times it’s been me shutting one of the doors after the car has been turned off for a minute or two.
The one reason I don’t give it 5 stars is connectivity. It streams footage to your phone using a wifi signal that it generates. If you are connected to your home or work wifi network, the camera will not connect with the phone until you lose that signal. I quickly get out-of-range of my home network, but for work I am connected to wifi until I leave our giant campus. From what I understand it records to internal memory in the event that it can’t sync with your phone so it’s not like that footage is lost, but in the event something happens, I’d rather have all of it immediately available on my phone.
Overall, the positives outweigh the negatives so far!
Disappointed.
Was looking forward to receive and set up for my work excepted it didn’t matched my request order: N E W. It is used one. It has scratch on the device and it has dirt spot inside box indicates that it is U S E D. I wanted and preferred. N E W one that I paid a lot of money for!!! I can’t say about product functionality itself since I didn’t even try. I’m returning it and reorder and give it another chance. If it’s N E W (spell again) N E W and it works great I’ll update the review once!
UPDATE REVIEW IS HERE: The nexar that I opened was recognized as brand new which I am happy with. I’ve installed it into my car within 15 minutes. So easy. It works very well and functions very well! The image is very clear. It works immediately and full updated. I am happy with the dash cam. Thank you nexar!
The icy roads in Texas and massive car pileup made me so anxious. I like to think I’m a wonderful driver, but I can’t control everyone else’s vehicles… so I decided “as an extra layer of protection on the road, I’ll buy a dash cam.” I did some research and decided Nexar was the product I wanted.
Shipping was fast. Setup is *very* simple; practically everything is done in the app on your phone – just need to make sure the camera is plugged into the power supply and that it’s connected to the app.
The camera quality is said to be 1080p. The ads make it seem like you’re going to get crystal clear picture quality and that’s not quite the case. The picture quality is not as sharp as the advertisements, but you can still make out most details (can’t read license plates, but you can make out just about anything else). I do really enjoy that the picture quality is still as good at night as it is during the day.
I *highly* recommend buying some heavy duty double-sided mounting tape though. The camera does not suction well to the window AT ALL.
Outside of that, I’d recommend this as a good purchase! I managed to convince a friend of mine to buy one, and she loves it!
Very hard to beat Nexar. This is the second camera I have bought with them. Streaming the videos directly to your phone and uploading them to their cloud is seamless. After using other dash cams with SD cards and internal storage, I will never go back to those models after using Nexar. Hassle free and easy to look up any recent drive. The image quality is superb. The sound on the videos can be a little hard to understand at highway speeds >60mph but I feel like that has more to do with my cars ability to block out road noise, not the camera itself. Decent sound quality comes through at <50mph. Grab this camera when they go on sale and you will not be disappointed. Oh, and did I mention it takes less that 10min to install? The tool it comes with to help hide the cable is excellent.
Tip: I would recommend using a good glass cleaner and getting your windshield VERY CLEAN using 1 or 2 microfiber clothes before installing (Second cloth to ensure all the cleaning product is off and the windshield is dry). This will ensure you get a great picture in your camera and other lights when driving at night won't have as much deflection.
Overall a really decant camera. Video quality seems to be great, sound is ok, but it always wants to be recording. I have the unit plugged in so it always gets power and unless I turn it off when I get out of my truck, I come back to a bunch of “camera only drive” videos trying to upload.
If I am close to the vehicle inside my house or at work it just keeps recording because my truck is right outside the window. I couldn’t figure out why my phone battery was dying so quickly at work and realized it was recording and uploading hours and hours of video of the side of the building to the cloud.
I’m not thrilled that I have to turn it on and off again every time I get in and out of my truck. I sometimes forget to turn it on and with my luck, That is when I will really need it.
This is my second dash cam. I have been using it for about a month now, and am overall pretty happy with it. The picture quality is great. And it is so convenient to be able to view the videos right on my phone. No more remembering to take out the SD card and bring it inside and plug in my external card reader. And then have to remember to put the SD card back into the camera.
My only complaint would be that your phone has to be connected to WiFi in order to view your “drive” on your phone. A few times it wasn’t turned on and there was something I wanted to see on the video, and was not able to. BUT I set up a routine on my phone that when I’m in the car, it turns on the WiFi. So that has solved that problem.
I would definitely recommend this camera!
I purchased this as a gift for my fiance, and he cannot stop raving about it. I saw an ad about this camera on Facebook, and decided to take the plunge. Someone recently hit my fiance’s car, and having a dash cam offers a bit more peace of mind in case something like that happens. He was able to get the camera set up quickly, and link it to his phone without issues. The video quality is amazing, day or night, and he’s able to record long periods of video without needing to clear out the camera memory. The camera will also overwrite old footage if it runs out of storage, without needing to be manually cleared.
He is absolutely obsessed with this, and is so happy with this camera so far. Hoping to get one for myself when it finally comes back in stock!
Update, July 2022: I ended up buying myself a dash cam, and it paid itself off earlier this year by catching a hit and run driver! My car was parked in a parking lot and hit, and the person drove off. There was very obvious damage to my door and it ended up being an expensive fix.
My dash cam turned on and caught the license plate, car color, and car type clearly during the night. We were able to find the driver and they were held responsible for the damages they did to my car. I also bought one for my dad, who is very excited to learn how to use his. This little dash cam is great, and I am so happy we have them for our vehicles!
Setting it up was very easy. Suction cups usually don’t hold, but this one is sturdy and tight. They provide ample cord length to snake it around the windshield and seat and provided some clips to keep the cord in place. After downloading the app and turning the car in, the device paired itself practically instantly.
Videos are clear, day or night. If you want audio in your drive videos you must manually enable it in settings.
One major disadvantage is it doesn’t have motion detection or shock sensors so if you are hit while parked, it won’t catch anything. It’s only on when the car is on.
Others have mentioned it only starts recording 5 minutes into the drive, but I haven’t experienced this. Mine is already recording while I’m still taking stuff out of my pockets before I pull out of the driveway.
So far I love it, but if I were to get another, I’d definitely choose a dash cam that will turn on and record from motion/shock.
I had heard that some dash cams required you to be the one to erase the clips on there in order for it to have space to continue recording which was something I did not want because I know myself and know that I would forget .
The camera itself is small which is perfect since I didn’t want anything too bulky. The set up was really easy . I was able to install in and hide all cables by myself . The camera starts recording as soon as I open my door and everything gets stored automatically in the Nexar app on my phone .
Actually going to order another one for my moms car as she liked it a lot too!
