I’m so glad we decided to take a chance on this pizza oven.
Assembly was pretty easy, took us about 15 mins, we used it immediately after getting it together and my hubby and I both agree that we had/made the BEST pizza we’ve ever had!
Love being able to make our own “brick oven style pizza” without the brick oven lol
This is a fantastic alternative and well worth the price!

My wife built this and set it up and said that the directions were easy to follow if not horribly translated and it wasn’t over complicated to complete. We used it right away and found it to be easy to use as well. It took us some trial and error to get the temperature right, mainly because the wind here was being an ___. However we were able to make a great dinner for us and the neighbors. Also, cleans up pretty easy.

There are numerous other ovens on the market if you need a play by play on how to use this, Amazon sells a few that have videos. They do assume you can figure out how to use a wood fired oven… if you need a thermometer you can use an oven thermometer, and place it inside. I use wireless meat probes and can see it this way.

I don’t think this is over complicated but I’m an engineer and I love cooking… That being said, my wife is a business owner, primarily food and beverage, and she figured it out before me.

If you want to make your own backyard pizza without building a brick oven this is the way to go…and talk about complicated with a brick oven…

I would do this if you are like me and using this as an introductory oven.
    Do season your stone well

Do make sure to monitor the stones temp not just the oven temp. (I used an RTD probe to determine the best set point for the oven, and it is not 700F, better at 615-625)

Do NOT overload with toppings!!!! This will most definitely cause the bottom of the pizza to cook 3x faster than the toppings and 1.5x faster than the crust. A good solution if this is your route is to precook the toppings.

Lastly, don’t go in unprepared. One user has informed you of the wood chunk sizes, so if you’re going to do normal wood splitting like this is a brick oven, halve the wood. Me, I just cut the wood into chunks with my chop saw.

I don’t want to tell people to modify their box, but you can slow down the burn rate in the small space, just know fire needs a catalyst to sustain itself…it needs oxygen. Control the airflow, control the burn.

I can’t rightly knock this oven because of some nuances because like one user wrote, its price is one-third that of bigger brands. I figured it out in a night. I had already been doing homemade pizzas in a gas oven, so I kinda knew what to look for…So, practice on homemade pizza in an understood environment… make some mistakes, and give this a go, it isn’t hard. If you are trying something new, expect to fail and be prepared to learn.

Very quick delivery- came 1 week before advised delivery date so all good.

On the first use I was surprised at how little heat radiated below the oven. In order to make cleaning out easier, I used a square baking tray to contain the wood. I was concerned about reports of the pizza stone breaking from heat. I set the fire going outside the oven and once to wood was burning put the tray into the firebox.
I was a bit sceptical about the 90 second cook time for a pizza but it was definitely correct. The first pizza was in for about 3 minutes (ish) and was pretty much cremated. The second pizza was much better. I tried a tray of marinated chicken on the upper shelf and this cooked perfectly in under 5 minutes. The smoke added to the flavour.
I would have no hesitation in recommending this ove

    ottima pizza

Updated Review and it’s really good –
The customer service from these guys is great, they immediately got in touch and not only did they send the instructions but also replaced the broken pizza stone, which I received within 48 hours via fedex.
    Simply brilliant

    ———/////———

The oven does look good however there’s no instructions on how to use. The pizza stone cracked into two pieces on the third use.

So I got this pizza oven because the glamour and romance of having one has always been there, and for the price, compared with ones for thousands of dollars, I really couldn’t pass it up. It came packaged really well, and was pretty easy to put together. (Slight problem where the handle was a bit bigger than the supplied washer, but I had spares.) It looks fantastic, and as a bonus it sits on my BBQ grates just fine so I can fire her up without worry of melting my deck or burning down the house.

Here’s the rub though. First, other than the “how to put together” in broken Chinese to English translation, there are no instructions on how to actually use it. There isn’t even a “Pizzello” website where I thought they might have some. They do have a nice section in the instruction manual that goes to great lengths to tell you what not to do in order to keep your stone from cracking, and one of the items was “Don’t place icy pizzas on your pizza stone.” Damn! That was one of the primary uses I was hoping to do – rather than use a toaster oven for my frozen pizzas, I was going to class it up and do them in my fancy pizza oven. Scratch that. Another tip they give to prevent stone cracking was “Always place a rock into a cool stove as well as do a long preheat.” I’m assuming the translation for “the pizza stone” was misinterpreted and became ” a rock,” because I can’t see putting a rock in there while I’m preheating.

There are no recipes or anything like that, so of course a search online produced many results, one of which was “Mr. Italian Stone Pizza Oven Man” (or whatever) where he has a $20,000 (or much more) outdoor true, huge stone pizza oven. Boy I wish I could make the stuff he was making there – I fell in love with the 2″ thick Porterhouse he did on a grate in the oven. But I have hope because this does come with a steel grate that slides above the stone slab about 5 inches, so we’ll see how that does.

As some have mentioned, there is no thermometer on this oven, but I’d like to point out that Mr. Fancy Italian Oven dude didn’t have one on his outside fireplace either. All the pizza recipes I found said the oven must be 700 degrees F, so I’ll check with an Infrared thermometer. I’ll be surprised if this little unit can get up to that temperature though.

The bottom line as I was unboxing and putting this together was I felt probably much like “that guy” that decides he’s going to take up boating because sailing around the world just sounds so glamorous. But after spending the money to buy the boat, moor it, learn how not to die… Five trips on the local lake he ends up selling on Craig’s list. We’ll see how this pizza adventure turns out, but from what I can tell the unit is up to the challenge. Now am I?

Other than the fact that there is no temperature gauge, it’s quite nice for the cost. I’ll be looking around on Amazon for an appropriate one to use, and they are priced well so shouldn’t be a problem finding the right one.

The oven is lightweight and portable if you want to bring on a picnic or camping. A nice, large pizza stone comes with it, as well as a rack, so you could have two pizzas going at once. The handles are sturdy and overall seems well made.

My husband put it together without cussing, so it’s clearly an easy build. I usually do the assembling in our household due to his low patience, so this was obviously quick and easy.

Today I’ll be looking at the Pizzello Outdoor Pizza Oven. Outdoor cooking is a passion of mine—it’s the one time that I can get a bit of silence, making it my moment of zen—so when I was offered a wood burning pizza oven for review I pounced on it. So how does this stack up? Let’s find out.

The build job was actually surprisingly easy. A majority of the unit is put together for you, as you can see in the pictures. You just have to attach the lid to the exhaust pipe, the handles on the doors, the carrying handles, the pipe to the body, and the doors to the body. You do need your own philips head screw driver, but realistically who doesn’t own one of those? The only other thing you need to do is bolt the handle to the pizza scraper, which is held by 3 screws and nuts. Really straight forward task. It is a one person job, and even if you have no clue what you’re doing it shouldn’t take more than maybe 20 minutes tops.

As for the unit itself, it’s surprisingly small. It was made to be portable, and I will definitely vouch for it being portable. The legs are fold out, and it comes with a nice cover as well. Both front doors have locking mechanisms, so there’s no worry of it suddenly blowing open with a big gust of wind. After building it, I found myself questioning the claim of ~12″ per shelf cooking area just due to how small it looks, but my tape measure confirmed it.

Speaking of manufacturer claims, there is one listed in the description that is definitely false. It says you can close the vents in the door, but I can 100% confirm that this is not the case. There is no slider for the door vents. I’m going to assume this was a translation error, but I’m unfortunately going to have to let this discrepancy effect the final score.

In terms of qualms with the unit, I’ll point out that I did have some scratches in the finish. Nothing bad enough to make me want to pack it up and send it back, but they are definitely there. As others have pointed out, there is no temperature gauge on the unit. This part isn’t as big of a deal for myself seeing as I have temp gauges covered pretty sufficiently, but for a lot of people this is going to be a deal breaker. I’d also like to see the manual be a little more complete, as it feels a bit off that they don’t give you vital information on the usage of your pizza oven. I’d like to have seen tips for fuel to use (for anyone wondering, oak is a great choice for these, or apple if you want extra flavor), how to clean it, temperature control, etc. There is a very solid portion of how to care for the pizza stone, but beyond that and the building process they don’t say much at all. If I wasn’t already quite experienced in outdoor cooking, that would’ve been a major problem.

As for how it works, it does work as it should. There’s enough lower airflow to pull the heat up and through the over portion, and the pipe is large enough to keep that airflow going. I heavily advise getting a nice temperature probe set so you can keep tabs on how hot it is in the unit so you don’t burn your pizza. There are plenty of good ones available for not a lot of money.

All in all, I’d give this unit a 3.5. Since amazon doesn’t give the ability to rate on a half star, however, I’ll round it up to a 4. To the manufacturer, if you’re reading this, consider revamping the book that comes with it and consider adding a temperature gauge on the door.

A nice portable wood burning pizza oven, but lacks a temperature gauge.

Really good, but make sure you read the back of the book about care of the pizza stone. We had a supply of really dry wood but you need to keep feeding the fire to keep the temperature up. Also use semolina on the peel to stop your pizza sticking to it. But over the moon with this & awesome family fun tossing the pizza base!!!!

    *The good*
    Quite well made
    Included cover is handy
    Price as tested @ 119.99

    *The not so good*
No way of knowing what the temperature inside is

The little pizza oven is well made and smart. It was acquired for camping trips but in all honesty it is not that portable, but we shall manage It has a smooth finish to it and the fold out legs are good idea. The included cover is a nice touch. It takes a bit of time to assemble. The included peel is stainless steel and very handy. The extra grill shelf allows you to cook other things at the same time which is handy as well.

It is priced at the lower end of the pizza oven market and I don’t think you will find one much better for the price.

The one thing I would really have liked to see is some kind of temperature monitoring, so it’s either guess or use an infra read non-contact thermometer. It’s all very well opening and closing the vents but you need a baseline temperature really. If it had some kind of way of measuring the internal temperature (even just include a non-contact infra-red thermometer in the package?) it would get 5 stars, but as it is, I mark it as a 4 star.

    Good for the price

First things first the price for this product is excellent (109 at time of review) not many other pizza ovens around for that price.
It comes with a paddle and a cover which increases its value for me and it was reasonably easy to set up, took us about 45 mins I’d say which isn’t too bad and once it’s up it’s up!
It looks nice and modern and not out of place in our garden. It’s also quite compact for what it does which makes it easy to both store and to place on furniture for use.
It heats up nicely but it’s hard to tell how hot the oven gets as there is no dial, the instructions are clear and it’s easy enough to use- not much to it really! It definitely gives a nicer taste than oven cooked pizzas. Going to have some friends over for a pizza party!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersSmall pizza oven with pizza peel, extra grill shelf and cover. Comes in a compact box and took a little time to set up. Quite a large cooking area so you can cook two pizzas at once, or place other foods on the grill. Easy to move around the garden as desired and move into the shed or out of the way when not in use, useful cover to prevent it getting spoilt. It is reasonably easy to clean after use
Great little pizza oven 109.99 at the time of this review, make for a fun evening in the garden.

Golden Review Award: 10 From Our UsersFirstly, straight out of the box this pizza oven feels of really good quality. It’s small enough to be portable but large enough to cook pizza and grill food on the top shelf at the same time. The top grill is also removable, allowing you to cook things larger than pizza.

The vents on the door or chimney can be opened or closed in order to regulate the temperature for the perfect pizza.

It has expandable legs and strong handles on either side should you ever need to move it or want to take it to a different location.

Setup took about an hour in total and was relatively straight forward.

It also comes with a steel pizza paddle, as well as a cover so it can be left outside all year around, which is an added bonus.

All in all, it’s a great oven that cooks a great pizza and it could end up saving me money in the long run on take aways. It’s also a bit cheaper than a lot of the others you’ll find Amazon at 109.99, which was the price at time of writing.

I hope you found this review helpful.

A great pizza oven for the price.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersAs it was delivered, noticed it had a little weight to it, it’s the stone! I managed to carry it round the back garden and soon as I took all the contents
out its very light, feels a little flimsy if I’m being honest, if then took to assembling it, took me around 20/25 mins I found the handles at the side a bit fiddly, but got there in the end. I deducted a star just for all the marks that are on it. All the parts fit together easily enough,
I have yet to use it as the weather took a turn but as soon as I have chance I’ll attempt my first pizza in it.. there is no guidance as to cook anything in it, so I will take to the Internet for that. When I get to try it out I’ll upload a video of my culinary skill ( or disater) all in all it should be a nice edition to the garden.

For the price,I expected a little more to it to be honest , possibly a dial regarding temp etc.. but all in all reasonable

    Pizza anyone
