I was actually looking for a white gaming keyboard for my white gaming build. This not met my expectations! Also mechanical touch is great. Overall 5/5
Only 1 con is that it does not have dedicated multimedia keys like volume control. Also FN cannot be locked to use Function keys for volume control.
Product is amazing and work like charm, the clicking sound and the response everything well, I used foam inside it for more better clicky sound.
Full on rgb modes, just missing software for setting own mode.
I was looking for an affordable mechanical keyboard to replace the crappy Dell provided keyboard. My brother recommended me this brand and I love it! I wasn’t sure about the blue keys but I love the clicking sound and there are 12(?!) backlight options. I like that it’s 80%, it gives more room for my mouse. My wrists aren’t in the right ergonomic place, so a palm rest is recommended. Give this a try if you don’t want to spend a ton of money on a gaming keyboard.
The feel and sound of this keyboard is awesome, the lights come in waves not flashes, it’s satisfying in every aspect, the experience and the price
after 2 months of using I had no issue so far. It has 6 functions with greate rbg lightings. However, it lacks of rgb sync with music feature but I’m not conplaining because of its price.
Needed something to replace the extra large Steele Series that I had before…saw this on Amzn.com at a discount and liked the look of it (and the reviews helped). I love the keystroke lighting effects and the brown switch of the keys is satisfying…although it seems to annoy my wife…eh. Again, love the lighting effects. Definitely went ahead and saved the other ReDragon keyboards on my wish list…thinking about getting the white one also….!
i’ve had it for about a year and it’s great, no problems and the color is nice
It sounds awesome
I use this everyday all day and it works amazingly
Bought this for my son and he loves it. Has the loud clacking of the keys which he wanted, me not to much lights are strong and has a variety of colors. Would definitely purchase agai
This keyboard is great! I use it for work mostly to give a little more life to my day. The colors under the keyboard are super bright and the sound that the keys make is the perfect clickity clack! I definitely recommend this product.
I do not ever write reviews cause I’m a lazy gamer lmao, but for this one if you game like consistently and you like the feel and sound of a mechanical keyboard, It’s firm to the touch no slouchy freely moving keys beautiful solid click noise (If you like that sorta thing 😉 ). Overall 5 star from me, for the price and firmness you feel, Brightness, and customization through the software 10/10 would recommend very happy with it. You will be super happy with it!
*Update 02/25/2022 Still going strong and no problems what so ever! for those curious!*
It arrived early on the day of delivery and it’s a plug in and play. Downloads and programming not required – the best! So easy and fun to use and my kid loves it! Thank you!
Absolutely love this keyboard. for the price that it is, is amazing. i had a 107 key corsair keyboard before this and i did have to get use to the smaller size and having no volume wheel thing but i am very impressed with the quality of the keyboard. HIGHLY RECOMMEND, if you’re on a budget and want a nice rbg keyboard
My wife’s adores this keyboard. Honestly feels as good as my Logitech G Pro keyboard and was half the price. Has great color options and very even key activation across the keyboard.
This keyboard is very good and I recommend it. Although the switched on this keyboard aren’t really cherry mx Blue’s, they are still clicky and very good for gaming. 5/5
I was looking for the perfect keyboard, and I can say that I found it! This keyboard is beautiful and is the perfect size for my compact desk and small hands. The RGB settings are AWESOME. I’m obsessed and change them around daily. The keys are perfect and give off the perfect clicking sound – awesome for gaming and school. Obsessed. Can’t be happier with this purchase.
I previously owned the rainbow black version with red switches. I knew the white version would be just as good, just in the colour that I wanted for my key swap I wanted to do. I switched out the switches from blue to red, as I am not a fan of blue switches. Turned out pretty much how I wanted my colour scheme to be. It’s my first time customizing a keyboard, and from what I read this keyboard is good for a low budget. Either way, I would recommend this keyboard or the other versions. Good for gaming and your regular computer needs.
Love this keyboard! The rbg is so cool and I love changing it. It fits under my monitor stand nicely. Definitely recommend. It is a little louder than I was expecting, so now I use it to annoy my family so if you have a full house or live/work closely to others maybe a quieter keyboard would be for you.
he white key caps are a bit taller than the black keyboard, and the keyboard works really well with laptops :p
The instructions are very clear and easy to install.
The colors are bright and even though the names of modes are odd they still make sense.
I wanted fast and clicky keys and the keyboard is perfect for me
El teclado super bonito y la entrega super rpida, pero no traa la pinza de metal para sacar los switch y tampoco switch de cambio
I know literally nothing about mechanical keyboards and bought this during Prime Day. So glad I did! It feels really great, and I can feel I’m typing more easily & more quickly. As a teacher, this is a godsend. The light show action with the keys is fun too. Good weight to the keyboard as well. It feels solid, and I like its compact length. I wish I had purchased it sooner!
I bought this for my sons birthday and he can’t stop raving about this key board. The way the keys feel and I personally love to see it all lit up. Very happy with our purchase!
I love this keyboard so much but I give it 4 stars because it comes with blue switches which are very clicky and sometimes loud but If you like clicky it’s perfec
So for those looking for that clicky satisfying mx blue type switch keyboard then go ahead and get this, nice size, feels good quality and it’s great for typing and gaming, also has a load of different rgb presets! A great gamers keyboard for half the price of the next rival
Awesome settings that are easy and intuitive. The aesthetics are pleasing and though this is my first mechanical and it is quite louder than my last keyboard, it is much easier to type with and the noise just doesnt bother me anymore.
I bought this keyboard for my husband because he had a big Logitech keyboard that had so many issues with keys not typing or some double typing, and he wanted a smaller one for the more minimalist look. He really likes this one for how inexpensive it was compared to his Logitech one. The rgb on it is pretty bright but not overly bright.
So far after about a week of having it I’ve really enjoyed the feeling of typing on it and the added space that its more compact layout provides plus at least from what limited experience I have with it I can kind of feel like its improving my typing in terms of how fluidly i can type based on not bottoming out the keys they way I did on my old keybaord
The quality of this keyboard is amazing for the price it’s build is very sturdy and feels heavy, the rpg is absolutely amazing, there’s plenty of options. The cherry mx blue equivalent switches sound so good. I can see why this keyboard is so popular. if you’re questioning to buy it or not I say definitely do it if ur on a budget. There was only one thing I didn’t like and that is the ring from the keys hitting the metal although it’s not very noticeable if you’re not paying attention to it. Overall super happy with this purchase.
This keyboard is amazing so far! The lights are lovely, the size is comfortable and easy to type with, and the clicking sounds are very nice and audible. I find this easier to use than a lot of compact keyboards I have tried with my ipad.
Unexpected functions I’ve found – it is even able to control the ipad volume using the FN keys, as well as control videos on the youtube app using the FN for pause, skip and play!
I would highly recommend this for someone looking for a more traditional keyboard feel, with options for customization!
The blue switches in this are comparable to my Cherry MX blues in my SteelSeries keyboard. It’s a good quality keyboard for the price for sure. The key caps are of course swappable. I went a little overboard on customizing this one. It has a ton of built-in lighting options that are the same as my Wormer K87. I love it so far!
This product has a realy nice feel I believe I have had it for a year now with no issues it has otemu blue switches witch are really nice wich makes it the price because if ur wanting a more budget small key board this is a really good one to ge
The build quality is good. The keys are thick and look as if they’re double shot. A keycap remover came in the box which I didn’t expect, but will come in handy when i swap the caps. I would have liked a more metal construction around the body since it is plastic on the outside, however it doesn’t feel flimsy or weak. Since there’s not a lot of metal, the keyboard is light. The rubber feet do not grip as nice as I’d like so it does move forward without a wrist support since you tend to lean your hands on it which gets me on to my next point. It’s tall! I haven’t experienced any RSI yet since I have a wrist support for other tall keyboards, so keep that in mind if you’re going to be using this for long periods of time.
The RGB is amazing. It is NOT programmable, but I don’t feel like that’s necessary. The colours here are beautiful with a very wide range. There’s around 9-12 preprogramed lighting styles with adjustable brightnesses, colours, and speeds. IMHO, this is more than enough. My biggest critique here is the white. It’s slightly pink. For the price, I’m happy.
The switches are Outemu switches. After using only Cherry MX and keyboards that over 4 times as much as this one, I would have said there’s nothing like Cherry MX. Now, I did purchase this keyboard because of the Cherry MX in the title (EXTREMELY MISLEADING), but… They’re actually good switches. They do have a considerable amount of rattle and wiggle room since they’re not built to the same tolerances as the Cherry MX switches. They’re also not rated for 100 million key presses. With that all said though, they are your run of the mill blues. They feel like they have a greater actuation force than my Cherry blues but I kind of like that a lot. So keep that in mind if you’re used to softer reds or don’t like to be so confident with your fingers. Longevity wise, I’ll have to update this review when I’ve broken in the switches to see how they hold up. I see a lot of reviews complaining about noise… What did you expect? They’re blue switches. If you want to bump but not the click noise, go for browns.
I like the style of this keyboard, but it’s definitely not for everyone. The big Redragon logo is gross. The font of the keycaps is very “gamery”. I would have liked the logo to be a swappable blat or at least be somewhat removable. I’ll be swapping these keycaps with something a little more subtle and I’ll probably get some white vinyl to cover the logo.
Overall, it’s a very good keyboard. I cannot be overly critical when this thing is half the price of what you’d normally expect. If you’re on a budget or want to dip your toes in blue switches, I’d say go for it. You wont be disappointed. Comparing this to the Poker3 and whitefox, it holds it’s own.
i love it so much. the only thing i wish is that it was a little less thick. but it’s fine it’s still so cute. to change the color/mode press FN with ins or home or pgup or del or end it pgdn and to have a solid color press FN and right arrow
THIS IS THE BEST KEY BOARD I HAVE EVER HADE THE CLICKS ARE AMAZING YOU CAN TAKE OFF THE KEYCAPS YOU CAN CHANGE THE COLOR HOLD FN AT THE TOP RIGHT CORNER INS,HOME,PGUP,DEL,END,PGDN USE THOSE TO CHANGE THE L.E.D.. it works well on Xbox ps4 you need a adaptor for the switch good for gaming like fortnite you need to buy this
Very good keyboard highly suggest although it’s a bit loud but thankfully there’s a key cap remover so you can put some sort of stuffing so it won’t be as loud it came in around 4 days overall really good keyboard
Funny button go clicky.
On a serious note, this is so much better than a normal keyboard for so many little details. The lighting is better, the click sounds are satisfying, and its compact size makes it great for not having a bunch of desk space.
My grandson (13). Loves it. You can make the lighted keys almost dance!
Honestly, this is a very good keyboard for the price! The brightness and saturation of the RGB colors, along with the different modes for the RGB, is amazing! Not to mention the very satisfying clicks of the keyboard! Overall, 9/10! (Only con is that you have to press FN to control sound volume)
This keyboard is easily the best you can get for the price as far as I am aware. The true RGB backlighting looks great, and it is hotswappable.
I quite enjoy the click and tactility of the Outemu Blues. At $45, naturally, this option will have a few draw backs. The stablizers in the space, caps lock, shift, etc. are quite bad, and when keys click, there is an audible ping noise inside of the case. For this price though, I can hardly complain. I also recommend looking into the Tecware Phantom 87 as it seems to be a compelling option too, but I have not tried it.
I can’t say enough great things about this keyboard. The keeps are very soft and they respond well. The rainbow colors are very pretty and bright. This is not a cordless keyboard and it does come with a USB type to make it work. Overall I am very happy with this keyboard.
As an amature gamer with little experience with mechanical keyboards, I simply love this little keyboard!
Aesthetically pleasing with multiple display options and colours.
Types well and not very loud as others would suggest.
Highly recommend for beginner gamers!
For the price, it’s pretty good! The rgb lighting is very bright and how I hoped it to be. I was going to buy this with my full pc setup but I just couldn’t wait, and the sound of the switches are nice and clicky like I expected. 🙂
This is my first mechanical keyboard and I love it so far! It is small and compact but I love that it still has the arrow keys. There are a ton of different light options and creating is custom one is pretty easy. I love the way the keyboard feels and founds, it is super clicky. If you share an office I would recommend buying other switches that are not as loud.
O-rings tone it down a little bit if needed. It is easy to take the keys off to do this.
I didn’t like the logo and so I sanded it with fine-grit sandpaper. I would recommend this to anyone starting out with mechanical keyboards!
I bought it for my so and he liked it.
Lo utiliza mi hijo, esta muy contento con el producto, los materiales son de buena calidad y permite una limpieza completa, eso nos gust mucho.
LITERALLY THE BEST KEYBOARD IVE EVER PURCHASED !!! worth all the money it cos
I love this keyboard to complete my work from home station haha
Very happy to received the keyboard fast. It doesn’t take a lot of space. A lot of colours with tons of mode. Plus the keyboard I got was hot swappable. So excited to change my switch to brown. 10/10
It has never failed me. Fine for gaming, nice brightness, great switches (for those that like clicky switches), but the quality of materials is pretty low so the sound can be unbearable occasionally (hollow case = reverb, thin plastic + metal = lots of pinging).
All that being said, I wish I would’ve gotten something like the GMMK TKL or any other hot swappable budget custom keyboard.
My son loves this keyboard. I gave it a 4 star because it’s loud! So loud you can hear all the clicks in the other room. Doesn’t bother him, he likes how noisy it is but I do not! LOL! Be prepared for that if you buy it.
I recently purchased this keyboard for Christmas for my younger sister who mostly plays games like Fortnite and Minecraft, but before I handed it off to her, I had to try it out for myself. Previously I had a Corsair K70 which was very nice and lasted me roughly 3 years before starting to go bad. Not a horrible lifespan for a keyboard getting extensive daily usage. More recently I have been switching between the Razer Huntsman TKL and the Logitech G Pro, eventually settling on the latter. But, now, time for some pros and cons of this keyboard.
Pros:
* It’s $40, and actually feels mechanical. This is not one of those “mechanical-feel” keyboards, it actually has switches very similar to the Cherry MX Blue (for those not in the know, these switches are ‘tactile’ meaning you have to press down a certain amount and will feel a small bump/click when the key is activated, but it is pretty clicky and loud).
* Surprisingly bright RGB lighting. I’m not sure if this is just because I purchased the white version of the keyboard or not, but the RGB lighting is arguably some of the best I’ve seen on a keyboard. WAY brighter than anything Razer makes and even brighter than my Logitech keyboard.
* Decently heavy. I’m someone who prefers my peripherals to have more weight behind them, including my mouse. I think how heavy this keyboard is, really helps it to not feel like it’s cheaply made.
* ONLY $40. Really, really, cheap for a mechanical keyboard that actually feels pretty solid. If you are just the occasional PC gamer and aren’t wanting to spend $120+ for a name-brand gaming keyboard that is RGB, go with this.
Cons:
* The BIGGEST con with this keyboard is after pressing a key quickly you are able to hear a little “twang” from the spring being pressed down. This issue is common among cheaper mechanical keyboards, and not a total deal breaker but it doesn’t sound very good.
* Under a few of the keycaps and especially on the top left right next to the Esc key you can see a screw, not a total deal breaker but something to take note of (see the second picture).
* No software to control the RGB lighting effects, it’s all done through key binds.
* The font on the keycaps is very meh, as is the large RED DRAGON logo above the arrow keys. Again, not a deal-breaker but not my favorite.
* Decently loud. Compared to my Logitech G Pro, which has switches similar to Cherry MX Blues, the switches in this keyboard are SIGNIFICANTLY louder and clickier. Just something to take note of.
* Cable feels cheap. Not a huge deal.
Feel: 7.5/10. Feels solid for how cheap it is. The weightiness of the keyboard gives it a higher quality feel.
Switches: 6.5/10. Almost really good, but the ‘ting’ noise after a hard press is a turn-off.
Looks: 8/10. Besides the visible screw next to the Esc key and the tacky RED DRAGON logo above the arrow keys, the RGB in this keyboard is some of the brightest I have seen, and the overall design I like as well.
Who would I recommend this to? Someone who does not want to spend $100+ to get a decent feeling mechanical keyboard. Also to someone in the younger audience who may not take care of their equipment as they should. Spill some water on this keyboard? Oh well, it’s only $40, not $150.
Also, the only reason I gave this keyboard a 4/5 OVERALL, is because I really doubt this keyboard will last longer than two years with no issues. If it does? This may be the go-to keyboard for new gamers.
Thank you for reading my review I hope you found it helpful 🙂
RGB looks Amazing and the blue switches sound soooooo good :3
also vewy durable hehe
It’s a beautiful keyboard, but it is very very loud to type with. Keys are also harder to press down so it feels like a bit of a workout at firs
Amazing keyboard the lighting is very bright and there are plenty of different modes.
This keyboard is definitely super amazing for the price! First off, the keyboard works, that’s always a plus. It is also super pretty with the lights, I love looking at it and it makes your setup super cute. There are a couple bad things however. Using it right now, the keys are pretty loud, so if you are planning on possibly using this keyboard while streaming or filming, be careful of loud clacking. I’m sure there is a way to fix this but sadly I do not know. Also, some of the keys are harder to press than others. The ones that are harder are the outer keys like backspace and shift. They are stiffer than the letter keys, but not by a lot. It is also possible that this could change overtime. Overall, great purchase!
I love how tactile the keys are! Nice colours and lots of options for colour and single colour coded keys
This product works as described. I like how there are different settings to set the keyboard colors as well as the keyboard sound. Many describe it as loud, but it sounds like any other mechanical keyboard in the market. I would recommend to someone who is starting out with gaming and wants to try a mechanical keyboard!
My kids like the loud typing noise it makes , though you me through sound does represent a more sturdy key. In fact theft is a tool to remove them I’m presuming to clean or replace keys. Overall satisfied for the value
Great keyboard, my son was not happy at first to learn that I will no longer be buying razer product, but after using this keyboard, he loves it. The thing about this keyboard is, it is like the old razer product, durable, heavy, seems like it will work way past the 1 month that the razer keyboard lasted for half the cost. I recommend this keyboard.
This keyboard is fine but when you are typing, you will DEFINITELY hear a loud ringing/ echo from the keys hitting the metal frame. It can be annoying, but if you can tolerate it, then get it. The RGB is absolutely beautiful.
I’ve barely had this keyboard for a day and its already one of the best keyboards I’ve ever bought. Its durability is great it takes a lot of force for the keyboard to actually bend and its sleek and compact design is great for gaming it doesn’t take as much space as a regular full keyboard would. The Mechanical Blue Clones are very similar to the very original and it has like 18 different lighting modes. It’s worth the $40. The Video is from my little bro
This is just my second mechanical keyboard. The first was RK ROYAL KLUDGE RK61 Wireless 60% Mechanical Gaming Keyboard. I can only compare it to that model. I use this keyboard for typing and light gaming (Nothing that requires accurate and fast reactions)
Keys: pressing the keys feels a bit “plasticky”. Less satisfying than the other keyboard. The keys feel lighter with less resistance when pressed
Structure: This keyboard feels sturdy and heavy. This is not a toy. The keys on the right (arrows, DEL,END PGDN etc) “float” on the board without frame. It looks like some part is missing but it is more an appearance issue.
RGB: Nice, colorful and with enough options to satisfy my humble needs and then some.
Software: Unusable. Did not run on my PC (Win10)
It’s a good keyboard for it’s price with good features and decent quality.
I absolutely love this red dragon keyboard I purchased. I got the white version which I like the best, I used to see Korean gamers’ have them quite frequently, so for some reason I got obsessed with the idea of the white keyboard. This one has several different functions you can perform with shortcuts, plus it has many different light modes and many colors! The keyboard lights are quite vibrant! One downfall is the sound if you are concerned about that. It is a clicky keyboard but quite loud. Personally I find the click and the clacks soothing!!! Great product for 49.99.
It functions as it is supposed to! Has so many fun colours you can change it to! Right now I have the colours sliding back and forth over the keyboard in a pastel rainbow range. Every time I type faster, the faster it lights up in certain areas! Love it.
My teenage daughter loves this for gaming and there are even more color combos than advertised. I gave one less star because of the clicking noise, the keys are very loud when pressed. I can hear it in through a closed door in the next room, and it gets annoying.
PROS:
– very good material for this price.
– nice clicky sound for a blue switch.
– nice colors and brightness.
– a perfect size for gaming mood.
– 2 ways of control “manually and via software”
CONS:
– the white color is a mess, you need the software to set the color a bit green to have a real white still with some dots that wont even appear in the pictures so it’s not a big deal.
– it’s software not working for it so you must install another model “VISNU model in my case”.
– the software sticking on the first edit on the profiles so you can’t change it later unless you re install it again.
in the end I’m ready to ask people to buy it, but I must let them know that only small problem is there being the software a bit poor.
The thing is great, but rings when you click certain keys. Just bought dampeners to try and fix this issue, hopefully it’s better! But overall, for the price, you get a pretty good quality product. I love mine, and the fact you can change the keys and switches is really nice. Solid base for a build but pls Redragon, work on the ringing issue.
I bought this keyboard so I could connect it to my Macbook Pro to use in my bedroom music studio and for light gaming (CSGO, Minecraft). The keys are very clicky and loud, so keep that in mind. With that said, the product is very solid and works well with OS x once you remap the modifier keys. Backlighting is gorgeous and it has plenty of color and pattern options. This should not be regarded as a budget product.
he leds are great. the quality is great. and the price is great. they are very loud because they have clicky blue switches. if you like to play games through discord and talk to friends than they will be able to hear your keys. this might be annoying to them but as long as your keyboard is not right next to your mic than you should be fine.
I’ve owned a few keyboards and none felt as great as this one. It has a very nice weight without being too heavy. The keys sound and feel high-quality. I previously had trouble using a more expensive mechanical keyboard because they were too difficult for my small hands, but they press down easily. The setup is as simple as plugging it in and using keybinds to pick the backlight colors, speed, and pattern.
Nice keyboard, US layout takes a bit of getting used to for me personally but can’t be helped. Switches are great but very VERY clicky and loud.
Great keyboard if you don’t work around anyone
Almost everything is great about this keyboard, there is so much rgb options including brightness, colors, speed, and patterns. there is only one problem and that is the mettalic ring whenever you press a key, it’s not noticeable when gaming by was when typing this review.
This is a beautiful keyboard and it is very loud, which my son loves. He is a true gamer and he goes through many keyboards an mouses so this is a keyboard that was cheaper in price for the same keyboards that cost so much more. This is a plus for me . This is a perfect product for less money that is as good as the most expensive keyboards you buy, will be ordering more of theses for him and the rest of the gaming family. So so happy with this product and will be letting others know how great this product is. He will be shouting out on what a great product this is to his followers.
Honestly, the different lightning modes that are in the keyboard are so amazing. The feeling is comfy and if ur one of these peoples who loves click noises when touching a key. Then this keyboard is made for u. It’s really satisfying
This is a great gaming keyboard response time really good rgb lighting one of the best I’ve seen and over all really worth it for 60 dollars
I am very impressed with the k552 the button clicks are a little loud but also very accurate when gaming!
This is an amazing keyboard for the price. The keys are very tactile and easy to press down. They are very comfortable and the rub is very good for a keyboard under $50.00. Unfortunately, the blue switches inside are EXTREMELY loud. Even when wearing headphones at full volume I can still hear the clicking of the keys. Everyone in my house is disturbed whenever I use the keyboard and the sound can be heard through the house. This review would be 5 stars if not for the keys.
It was a really great keyboard for the money.. I would very much recommend
Perfect budget TKL keyboard for mediocre gaming/typing. Lighting effects are also very nice for a cheaper board.
I don’t really use this keyboard for gaming. I love how the White version with the RGB colors look in a dark room. The colors glow against the white more than the black version. Very cool looking and a fair amount of color/animation options.
I really do like the mechanical Cherry MX Blue (equivalent) keys. Very nice satisfying clicks (might not be great for an office). My only complain is I would like a number pad on this keyboard. Keeping my fingers crossed Redragon will release one like this in the future with a number pad.
Thinking about buying more of these keyboards for my other PCs and a Mac so I have the same on each system.
Best keyboard And a great price . Maybe a little too loud though
We stan a clacky boi and boi does he clack.
Tl;dr? This little roaring dragon is a fun little attention hog and worth the very little bit of effort it takes to tame. O-rings and a towel did the trick.
The little Kumara is like an excitable younger sibling compared to the other mechanical keyboard I have. It’s bright and loud and wants attention, and I love it.
COLOR / LIGHTS:
It’s got so many RGB presets I don’t think it even remembers what they all are: sweep left/right, pulse, shimmer, fade, pulse, solid color, touch light-up — the list goes on. (You can cycle through them all mechanically with FN+INS through PgDn and change the color of the solid-color ones or the pulse direction with the arrow keys.) The white case/keys make the RGB lights pop. And it’s got quite a lot to say while you’re typing.
SWITCHES:
These blue switch keys have a bright, bouncy feeling to them that I can’t get enough of, along with their satisfying click.
SOUND:
It’s not just the blue switches that make it audibly loud. Three sounds make this little wyrm the loudest in his clutch: (1) you’ve got your clicks, which come from the switches themselves; (2) you’ve got your clacks, which come from the plastic keycaps striking the body when they bottom out; and (3) you’ve got a ping resonating through the metal body when the keys pop back into place. Take all those and put them on a metal/plastic combo body that amplifies like a drum and you’ve got a keyboard that sounds like a room full of tiny, angry, old-timey reporters live inside.
But don’t be scared off by the Kumara’s roar. It can be tamed! Don’t get me wrong, this will never be a quiet keyboard, but you shouldn’t be looking at blue switches if you want quiet, anyway (switches are differentiated by color; blues are designed to go “click!”).
MODIFICATION:
Here’s how I brought this wyrm to heel:
1. O-rings, specifically the Cherry MX Rubber O-Ring Switch Dampeners Blue . The blues are more noise dampening than Cherry’s red. You can get an off-brand or try to do something yourself and you might be fine, but I picked the Cherries so I’d know what I was getting. The Kumara came with a keycap remover, so all I had to provide was the rings and a pair of modeling tweezers to slip them on with. The rings keep the keys from bottoming out and clacking against the keyboard body, which was the source of the truly clamorous clatter.
2. I pulled apart some cotton balls and stuffed them inside the larger keycaps to reduce open spaces that resonate. The difference is barely noticeable, which is why I only worried about the larger keys. But it’s a little something if you want to go that extra bit. One of the other reviewers took the case apart and inserted foam columns, which would probably do even more.
3. I have a lovely scarf I never wear that I put under the keyboard. It’s pretty and it keeps the desk from further amplifying the noise. You can also use a small towel, or one of those extra-large gaming mouse pads (like this one if you want something more subtle than a patterned scarf.
With these really simple modifications the Kumara only roars as loud as I want it to, while I get to enjoy all its bright exuberance.
OTHER NOTES:
1) My use case is typing long documents and programming. I cannot speak to its performance as a gaming keyboard, though I’ve heard a different switch type besides blue might be better. Google up mechanical switch types to find what’s right for you if you’re a serious gamer.
2) I use this with a Mac (Macbook Pro) with no problems. I haven’t extensively tested the function keys’ media control functions, so I can only say the volume up/down both work. I had to tell the computer what kind of keyboard it was when I first plugged it in but since then it hasn’t asked, even after disconnecting/reconnecting it. And it took about 30 seconds to go through the auto-detection process, so no big.
3) The keycaps are easy to remove and seem like any basic hot-swappable cap, and the switches aren’t soldered in, so I presume it’s possible to swap them as well. (Note that I’m not sure how the fact they are proprietary plays into the ability to repurpose them or whether that affects what the board accepts.)
In conclusion? It’s not a perfect keyboard, but it’s perfect for me for the price. Worth a go if you’re curious about mechanical keyboards, don’t care about noise, don’t mind a few extremely simple modifications, or just want something to tinker with.
I have been watching videos for around a year on this keyboard and i only just got it and i am so impressed. Such a quality keyboard for a reasonable price. A must buy
Fonctionne tres bien pour le prix et est trs robuste
It’s a small keyboard. Keep that in mind. I have fairly small hands so I thought I could get more of a grip on this keyboard while fighting off hordes of Gnomes that attack my house every morning. I was a little disappointed when a few of the keys came off the board after only one Gnome was brained, but it is meant for gaming after all, not Gnome-acide. Still a solid 4/5
This keyboard is really great, extremely good response time, which makes it very nice for PC games like COD, Fortnite, Minecraft, Etc. The backlights on the keys are bright, the colors are nice, and, best of all, everything is customizable. You can adjust the brightness of the keyboard, the pattern it makes, and the colors of the lights.
My only gripe is that, as I am clicking away writing this, the keyboard is bordering on obnoxiously loud. The keys are all individual mechanical switches, which is good for playing games but when normally typing away, the noise can get aggravating fairly quickly.
Overall, it’s a good, high-quality keyboard, but for $20-$40 more you could get a much quieter keyboard
Great gaming keyboard very responsive great lighting options. The only reason it’s not a 5 star due to the key caps sliding a little bit but great product.
If you are looking for a cheap white keyboard with rgb lighting this keyboard is perfect. They are not cherry switches(knock offs) but they are very good for this price.
When my son wanted a $50.00 keyboard for gaming I was at first like hellllll no but I later caved in and he showed me all the functions it has and it’s a sweet keyboard, it’s sturdy, the keys can be taken off with ease (and it comes with a key remover) but only with the remover, all the keys are on tight and it has many very cool functions. My son takes this everywhere with him being the avid gamer that he is. If your son or daughter are gamers then I’m pretty sure they’d like this also.
For the price, this keyboard is amazing. It feels great and isn’t too loud. There is also over a dozen rgb patterns to choose from.
PROS:
Great feel, sound, lighting and overall build quality.
CONS:
Text on the keys looks a little gamery but not too bad overall, lack of individually customizable key lighting.
Great tactile feel (better or equivalent to any other name brand board I’ve tried), lighting looks great and has pretty good color options considering there not being software. I’ve been using this board for almost a year now and have had no real issues. The build quality of this kb is really really good for the price, absolutely no deck flex and feels really solid without being too heavy. White, TKL, RBG mechanical keyboards are almost impossible to find in my experience and this is one only being $40 makes this a must buy if you’re in the market.
To start this review. I am seriously impressed with Redragon’s product’s for what you get for the price point. This keyboard feels sturdy and well made. The blue switches feel great and the lighting modes on this keyboard are awesome and vibrant. I am a fan of the compact size of this set up also. Its simple and straight to the point and doesn’t take up too much space. I love my other set up but am really glad that I decided to buy this to change things up. I highly recommend giving this set up a shot.
Great keyboard. Using it for around 1 year and never let me down.
Update: i don’t know how long i have owned the keyboard for but even after spilling coke and water on it, it still works so definitely worth it.
I purchase the white RGB version for my very first PC build. I wanted to step in to the mechanical keyboard/RGB world without breaking the bank. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality for the price. It is gorgeous. There are at least a dozen profiles to choose from, so you don’t have to mess with software if you don’t want to. I don’t know what genuine Cherry MX Blue switches feel like, but these are definitely clicky. There is also bit of a hollow sound when typing, like empty space within the keyboard itself, but I installed Rosewill dampeners and that has helped a bit. I can’t speak to the Kumara’s longevity, but I would say don’t hesitate – I really don’t think you’ll be disappointed!
This keyboard is bright and beautiful for the price I paid. I’m no gamer but I love all the back light customization for the RGB keyboard. The only ‘annoyance’ would be a slight ring after the spacebar or backspace button is pressed, other than that this keyboard is great for an average user.
This gets an A+ on the cool-scale. I got this in white to use exclusively at my desk with my tower pc. I don’t do online gaming. I just loved the looks of it and the clickety-sounding keys had me intrigued enough to try it. It’s fantastic! I have a limited work space and don’t really use 10-key anyway so the size of this one is perfect. I don’t even need a lamp on to type in the dark now. Love this thing!
Amazing Value for money.
RGB backlighting is per key and completely customizable with the software (although its impossible to find).
Outemu blue switches are very loud but great.
Build quality is rock-solid and the keyboard is spillproof.
Great for gaming and typing/
Fantastic keyboard for the money, has a bit weight to it and feels very well built. It’s worth pointing out that it’s only available in English US layout but that’s no problem to me as it’s only used for gaming. Works with XIM Apex on XBOX ONE too.
