SHARPAL 121N Dual-Grit Diamond Sharpening Stone, Tool

SHARPAL 121N Dual-Grit Diamond Sharpening Stone, Tool Sharpener for Sharpening Knife, Garden Shears, Axe and All Blade Edge

1. Select the appropriate diamond side based on the condition of your blade.
2. Place your blade on the heel of the diamond sharpener at the desired sharpening angle and PUSH the blade AWAY from you like you are trying to carve a thin slice off the top of the diamond surface. (See Fig. 1). Repeat this PUSHING stroke several times. Remember to hold the angle as you push and try to maintain a consistent sharpening angle with each stroke. This is the key to obtaining the sharpest cutting edge.
3. Now sharpen the other side of the blade by placing your blade on the end of the diamond sharpener. PULL the blade TOWARD you like you are trying to carve a thin slice off the top of the diamond surface. Let the tip come off the edge of the diamond sharpener. (See Fig. 2) Repeat this PULLING stroke the same number of times as you did on the opposite side of your blade.
4. Continue sharpening both sides of your blade until you feel that your blade is truly sharp. If you started with Coarse 325 grit (45 micron) side, move to 1200 grit (9 micron) side, repeating the sharpening process. If your knife blade or tools to be sharpened merely need a touch-up or dressed edge, use only the 1200 grit (9 micron) side.

All round , a great sharpener .
I have used this on knives , lawn mower blade and it certainly gets them sharp with little effort.
Shame it is not made in USA.
This has to be the easiest tool to sharpen a blade. I absolutely love it and will order another for my truck and RV soon.
I recently added a diamond sharpening stone and leather strop to my sharpening toolkit, and I am thrilled to give this a well-deserved 5-star rating. It have proven to be an exceptional combination for achieving razor-sharp edges on my blades and axes, offering outstanding performance that surpasses my expectations. Here’s why I highly recommend this diamond sharpening and leather strop set:
The diamond sharpening stone included in this set is a true game-changer. Its diamond-coated surface provides unparalleled sharpening capabilities, allowing me to restore dull blades to an incredibly sharp state quickly. The coarse side of the stone effectively removes nicks and imperfections, while the fine side refines the edge to a razor-like sharpness. The diamond abrasives ensure consistent and precise sharpening, giving my blades an exceptional cutting edge.
Complementing the diamond sharpening stone, the leather strop offers the perfect finishing touch. This high-quality strop is crafted from premium leather, providing a smooth and supple surface for honing and polishing the blade. The strop’s firm yet flexible construction allows me to achieve a refined and mirror-like edge on my blades, further enhancing their cutting performance.
The construction and durability of both the diamond sharpening stone and leather strop are outstanding. The diamond stone is built to withstand regular use without losing its abrasive qualities, ensuring long-lasting performance. Similarly, the leather strop maintains its structure and effectiveness over time, allowing for consistent honing and polishing.
Using this diamond sharpening and leather strop set is incredibly user-friendly. They are both easy to handle and navigate, providing a smooth and controlled sharpening experience. Whether I’m a beginner or an experienced sharpener, these tools simplify the process and deliver exceptional results.
Versatility is another standout feature of this set. The diamond sharpening stone can be used for a wide range of blades, including kitchen knives, pocket knives, axes, and more. The leather strop is also compatible with various blade types, allowing me to achieve professional-level results regardless of the tool I’m sharpening.
The handle makes this a great sharpener because it protects your hand as compared to holding a thin stone or thin manufactured stone. For me it allows more complete use of stone surface only a little bit close to handle is unusable. The handle does impact setting a sharpening angle but one just uses less area. This is a good around the house touch up sharpener. I keep it the kitchen. The leather “strop” is a marketing joke, but it is a decent sheath.
Switched to this from a whetstone, its lightweight, easy to handle, sharpens quicker and most importantly less cleaning afterwards. It also comes complete with a stroping sheath,Highly recommend.
Well made bought two one for around the house and one for my fishing tackle box great for sharpening hooks
Bought this as a gift for my husband who is a knife collector and he absolutely loves it. Sharpens beautifully!
I wanted to buy this from Home Depot but they did not have it in store and bought it from Amazon. I am very satisfied with the purchase because it is a dry sharpener, you don’t have to submerge the stone in the water like most of the stones require. Easy and quick sharpening
I used this for my work knife, as well as to keep some of my kitchen knives sharp. The coarse grit is great for reshaping the edge of my knife gets chipped. While the fine grit is good for keeping my knives sharp enough to do their job and do them well. The included leather sheath works as a strop to remove the bur. I would highly suggest this to anyone who needs a portable/easy way to sharpen their knives.
The best hand sharpener I’ve owned. Got an usable edge on a few blades that I’ve never been able to get a good sharp edge before.
Easy to use. Quickly took the rough edge off of a fixed blade I was having difficulty getting straightened out. The fine side smoothed out the edge and the leather sheath/strop took any burrs off. Overall, a great addition to my toolbox. I have well over a dozen or so knives, not counting kitchen knives, and I was looking for something that wasn’t one of those pull-through devices that force an edge on your knife. I never liked those, and I doubt I ever will.
Brilliant wee sharpener quickly does the job at hand good for at home and out in the Bush only dislike is you can’t use it to strike a ferro rod very well
Das Produkt ist einfach nur zu empfehlen. Die Lederscheide ist sehr hochwertig und erfllt zu 100 % auch ihren Sinn .
I just received this yesterday, opened it up and thought it would be ok. I used it today and sharpened 2 knives in less than 5 minutes!!! It takes me longer than that to set up my electric sharpener or get my Lansky System set up and ready. You might not get the perfect angle on your knife with this sharpener, but when your having to work outdoor cutting everything from cardboard to limbs and need a sharp knife all the time, like I do, this new gem is PERFECT. Best money I’ve spent in a while.
I love this knife sharpener! I’m just a regular guy that wants to keep his blades sharp. I’ve used this sharpener on my kitchen knives, my EDC knife, and even the knife in my multi tool, and the results are great! It’s kind of small, but still manageable for larger knives. I love the double sided sharpening surface and the fact that the sheath is for stropping makes the edges last longer. My kitchen knives are “budget friendly,” but you wouldn’t know that with the edge this sharpener keeps on them. Especially with the minimum effort and time between uses. You won’t be disappointed!
After 10 knives it’s kinda getting harder to sharpen the blades, dunno wether I am meant to somehow clean it or not, but yea other than that Hardy to have when your out an about and does sharpen them well.
It removes material fast too I was able to sharpen my Ontario knife company combat knife 498 and the Glock 81 field knife. I have a. Hatchet but haven’t tried it on that yet.
Also don’t put strop paste on the leather part it recommends since it’s will mess up the leather piece and f doesn’t work or look that good it’s better to use the strop without adding paste to it.
I treated myself to a really good chef’s knife recently, something I’d wanted to buy for a while. However, I was conscious of not being able to sharpen it properly and weary of damaging it with a couple of sharpening tools i use on cheaper knifes. I was researching whetstones when I cam across this product. It is so easy to use and has instructional videos on how to use as well. No messing around with wetting a stone or anything like that, it sharpens perfectly every time and its sheath is a nice “extra” for buffing your newly sharpened knife. I would recommend.
Bought for a friend, he’s delighted with it, great with the handle makes it easy to use
This will come in very handy for for sharpening my filleting knives.
It’s hard to tell if the fine side is really effective or will last, but I feel that it’s quite ok – and easier to use than a sharpening stone
Very well made, compact and handy. Works well for me, and good value.
I like this easy to use sharper, so far used on secateurs, various knives and a chisel. Take your time and you should also be pleased with results
Only used it to sharpen some knives so far but seems ok. Came on time well packed.
I have used this on my axe, and several knives and really impressed
Works well. Not that easy to hold but not a deal breaker.
Use this for sharpening all garden tools at home and work, works brilliantly and the leather sheath works perfectly for polishing small knifes
I bought this to reshape the geometry of my Albion Squire Line 13th C. Greatsword. I was laborious because the steel was much tougher than I expected it to be. All in all, I am very pleased with the file and would happily by another one. I also put a razor edge on my Gransfor Bruks hunter’s axe.
Easy to use and heavy making it easy to use
Have not used this yet but will be soon. I know how to use this properly so should be no problems but will not know until it is used. Very important piece of kit to find one that works and last for a while. We will see soon enough.
I own a large selection of whetstones, and this has them sat in a box seeing no use, whilst I sharpen all of my pocket knives/razors etc. with this!
It’s a perfect for small to mid-sized knives, scissors, chisels, straight-razors as well as other things around that size. I have had A LOT of use out of it and it’s holding up great, with phenomenal results every single time.
I like the fact it can travel with you round the garden and is at hand whenever it is needed
I’m lucky to have found it! Congratulations to the manufacturer!Very good grip and I like the workmanship on the handle with spinning! The case is made of real leather with a fantastic scent! The tool is quality work!
Very easy to use, helped by the videos Sharpal have available at no charge, showing how their sharpeners are best used.
Not just a useful tool, but one that anyone can get to grips with thanks to the manufacturer’s videos
Would most definitely recommend
I’ve been using it for last couple of weeks on my and my scissors and my secretaries and it’s working where it’s performing well
I bought this as something to quickly restore a tool’s edge between bouts of major resharpening. I have just tested it on a kitchen knife that was last sharpened about 3 weeks ago. It was pretty dull as others in my household do horrid things to sharp knives, such a putting them in a pile of cutlery on the draining board.
With just a few strokes of the coarse side, a hone on the other, and a swift strop with the leather sheath, this put a superb edge on the knife. The tool proved very easy to use and it feels nicely balanced in the hand. The paracord binding on the handle allows a very secure grip and the leather sheath is a clever touch with its ability to be used as a strop. I like it very much and it will be a go-to tool for regular use. It would be especially useful to take on lengthy trips in the outdoors as it isn’t either heavy, or bulky, and will always ensure a decent edge on knives used in the field.
Highly recommended…
This product works very well on domestic knives and I would buy another although not competitively priced.
Can’t say anything about the longevity of the product having had it only a few months, but that said I have used it on about 10 of our gardening tools for a relatively intensive sharpen (as all were very blunt) and then use it briefly whenever putting tools away and currently no signs of ware. Basically it has paid for itself in not having to purchase new tools.
The removable paracord is an unnecessary feature, i.e. I can’t see why you would need it, however it is easy to hold. I do wonder how you would put it back if untied but don’t think this is a problem I am ever going to have. All in all a good product that I am happy to recommend.
After years trying to put an edge on frequently used knives with the old oil stones within about twenty minutes I had a razor sharp edge on the five knives. Great tool.
Fantastic field sharpener, gives much better control than smaller versions.
Easy to use, sharpened 2 axes and all my hunting knifes with great results
Used the tool to sharpen several garden implements, secateurs, shears etc. did a really good job. Don’t get what the problem was getting the tool in and out of the sheath – no problems.
Works very well on knives puts a fine edge to knife.
Thank you!!
Easy to use But would of liked it a bit longe
I don’t like your constant request h go or praise. When I have a complaint you have allowed other customers to get in touch. VERY frightening.
What a little Cracker. All the quality of a far more expensive item.
I’ve been using this in professional kitchens for the last month, and it works excellently
Love it. Very easy tu use and it does his job
Good size, easy to use and produces a good edge.
This makes short work of sharpening axes, knives, gardening tools. I have bought cheaper versions of this type of tool but this is the best by far.
It’s got two sides, 1 very robust and coarse and 1 very delicate to hone .
Better than I expected, at this price point. (I soaked the holster , as I always do with any leather holster – and the tool fits brilliantly).
This product has been the quickest and most effective knife sharpener I have bought.
It’s very easy to use, great instructions and a helpful video on YouTube as well. And it’s quite appealing to the eye.
Overall would 100% recommend.
Good sharpener, great leather sheath, love the handle. Wouldn’t fancy re-doing the handle if I unwound it though. Fits easily in pocket or tacklebox, puts a good edge on my fishing knives.
Easy to use, very tactile… Everything has been sharpened with ease… Love this
Been looking for a sharpening tool to sharpen my knife/tool and been comparing among many brands with decent reviews. It does what it said on the tin. The coarse and fine side helps to get a very nice edge on my knife. Though the handle is comfortable but am not a fan of the ‘string’ handle. Other than that it is a stellar product for a sharpening tool.
Follow up. Trying to get the sharpener out of the sheath caused all the string handle to come apart.
Would return it but for that.
Without my wife notice, I had tried to sharpen our cutter and put it back in our tool’s cabinet. Yesterday, she shouted at me and say amazing the Fiskers cutter cut very well. She absolutely impresses with this product after I demo to her and she say it is easy to use. I think I should recommend this to everyone. Definitely a good piece of sharpening tool you would not miss and should keep one in your tool box.
The leather case was very hard and had to soak with a leather softener to be able to use it.
Sorry that I did not take any photos to show you while I camping in Snowdonia but able to capture a few when it first arrive. I brought this very handy dual grit Buddyguard sharpening stone together with me when I went to camping in Snowdonia National Park in the August bank holiday . It were bushes and plant blocking along the path up to the hill , my knife turn so sharp with a few push on the grit without any water or oil needed. My little knife able to chop all the plants down along the path and Sharpal just make my path much easier.
I am so tempted to buy all the product from Sharpal and I think I am just addicted to their product. Haha. They probably not the cheapest in the market but I am sure they having the best sharpening stone ever.
A brand which I strongly recommended!
Superb addition to my field sharpening set. Easy to use and extremely effective.
Def recomend this product for value for money and also quality
great quality, does what it says. looks more expensive than the price. durable. i just love it. great buy. looks fancy.
Sharpal customer services have been really good and offered to replace my sharpener, but I have in fact continued to use it for refreshing the edge of my woodworking tools each time I use them. I have been working with oak and having a good edge on tools makes the job much easier. It only takes a minute with the sharpener on the back and front of a chisel to create a really sharp edge and I do not always resort to the strop. The strop does however create a shiny surface for the perfectionist, particularly when used with honing past. I think that my problem early on was to treat the diamond sharpener like a file and apply too much pressure on the return stroke such that the sharp edge of the tool dug into the substrate to scrape off the diamonds. It is best to apply pressure only on the forward stroke coming off of the edge or moderate the pressure overall. A diamond sharpener is not a file and should be treated with respect as it is amazing technology. I would recommend this sharpener to anyone who does woodwork.
18 MONTH UPDATE:
I have two of these. One is in my wood shop and gets moderate use on things like my drawknife and my axes. That said, I have re-beveled a few folding knives taking of a LOT of steel (like from 25* bevel to 10*) and also a hatchet. It has held up flawlessly. The other one is in my kitchen and it gets an absolute workout. On my personal knives (the GOOD ones) I strop daily and then resharpen on the fine side about once every week or two. On my (ahem) wife’s knives (which I hate), I pretty much have to grind them down frequently starting with the coarse side because they are not the best steel . So this one gets a lot of use. It’s also the sharpener I use on my beater folding knives when I come in from doing yard work and that often involves repairing damage (plunge your knife into bags of gravel, or into dirt to cut holes in weedblock fabric and you’ll do lots of damage). Again, it has held up flawlessly. I cannot find any spots where diamonds have come off. It has held up as well as the DMT stone in my woodshop which is used for all my planes and chisels.
I have applied green compound to the strops on both. But I rarely use them. They are perfectly serviceable strops and would work great in the bush when you don’t want to carry a strop with you because it makes it an all-in-one package. But I am never really in that kind of situation and even camping I have a small strop in my kit — in the kitchen I have a really long one. The issue is just that because the sheath strop is curved to the seams, you can’t get right up to the handle on some knives. It’s also pretty thick leather so you are more likely to round your edge after repeated stroppings (I use 2oz leather for wooden strops). Now this quibble is really because I’m a perfectionist and using a FIELD sharpening stone for precision work. For normal field use, the strop really works great — it’s a very small compromise. In other words, if I don’t have a wooden strop available, I’m not going to complaining using the sheath strop. To add more clarity, I used the sheath strop for the kitchen one for over a year before I got around to making a strop to permanently live there. So yea, the strop works.
I’m most impressed that it has held up all this time under constant use. Also, the paracord I originally complained about has not come loose, which is good. But I’d still rather see a plastic/composite handle.
Also, I saw someone complaining about the strop not holding compound. I had no issues. The compound goes on the rough side; not the smooth side.
39 MOTH UPDATE:
Both of them are still going strong and there has been ZERO drop off in performance. The one I keep in my basement woodshop has re-profiled the edges of countless knives (I have quite the knife collection) and even some subtle blade shape re-profiling and knife restoration. I have been absolutely BRUTAL with it. I keep waiting for the diamond loss and it just hasn’t happened. Additionally, any concern about the paracord is gone as none of it has come loose. I’m about to purchase a third one strictly for backpacking/hiking and I will cut off the handle keeping the diamond part and leather strop/sheath to make a very compact version that saves almost half the weight (think Falkniven DC4, only with better grit options and indestructible and with a stropping sheath so yeah, BETTER).
QUICK CLEANING TIP: To clean off the build-up of metal particles from whatever tools you’ve sharpened just use a white eraser like the Papermate ones that are about 2.5″ x 1″.
