Wish it was longer than 4 inches for brush whacker tools. It works perfect for bushcraft and edc knives!
Makes you feel like one of those knife fanatics on YouTube
I will never use another sharpener. It is easy to use, got all my knives and axes more sharp than they’ve ever been and got the job done quick.
MADE ALL OF MY KNIVES SHARPER THAN A RAZOR!!! 100% RECOMMEND THIS IF YOU WANT RAZOR SHARP EDGES!!!!
Fulfills all my general sharpening needs. Handy cord on handle for emergencies. Good instruction booklet.
Finally a knife sharpener that can put an edge on my Leatherman wave.
Very sturdy, easy to hold and use for almost any edge in my shop and home. Tough, but not too heavy to carry around. One size literally fits all edges.
Einfach nur sehr gut. Es funktioniert viel besser ,als ich gedacht habe.
As far as I know it works. It was a gif
Small, fits about anywhere in packs
Light weight & a container fits tight- for a while anyway. Convince
Wer damit umzugehen wei bekommt schnell gute Resultate allen anderen Anfngern rate ich ab.
Good product but I order two and I only got one
facile a utilis et rend les lames de couteau aiguise comme des rasoi
It seems ok for its price and it works
If you are not familiar how to use a diamond stone you will struggle but the instructions should help you.
Durability it’s on par with similar priced items.
Easy to use if you know how to use it.
I appreciate to fine side grit. I hone regularly so haven’t used the coarser side grit. I’d change it to one side fine grit and other side double finer.
Zum Schrfen besser als ein Schleifstein da durch die glatte Schleifflche keine ungewollten Unebenheiten entstehen. Produkt ist sehr zu empfehlen.
This will come in very handy for for sharpening my filleting knives.
My only gripe with this product is that the fine side has rounded edges. It’s solid and easy to use, but doesn’t work on the fine side all the way.
I used this for a year on an off shore dragger (fishing boat) for my filleting knife, still sharpening strong
Nice sharpener. Great for use on tools in the field.
I have used this tool to effectively sharpen a variety of cutting edges. Lopers, shears, a hatchet, a hoe, scissors, bypass trimmers and more. I’ll buy a couple more for the kitchen junk drawer, and to throw into my camping gear. The right size. I also have a variety of smaller diamond files, but this is just large enough to take on larger jobs the little ones can’t tackle.I like this tool, and even though I’m normally a slow adoptor, I have chosen this new tool often lately to put an edge on a variety of tools. I like it.
The metal itself felt cheap and light while the diamonds flaked off more easily than other diamond files I bought.
It does do the job though so I’ll give it that.
I like this easy to use sharper, so far used on secateurs, various knives and a chisel. Take your time and you should also be pleased with results
Only used it to sharpen some knives so far but seems ok. Came on time well packed.
Works well. Not that easy to hold but not a deal breaker.
Use this for sharpening all garden tools at home and work, works brilliantly and the leather sheath works perfectly for polishing small knifes
I use bush & hunting knives, axes, and machetes. A lot of them. I spent hours over the past couple of days sharpening my tools and the Sharpal did not disappoint me at all. I couldn’t even believe that I was able to get my axes sharp which astonished me. Also did my kitchen knives. It appears this sharpener has not lost its durability so I am very happy to own this. It’s easy to use just have your arms ready because you are not going to stop with just one knife.
Se sei in possesso della tecnica giusta questo affilatore da campo assolve egregiamente il proprio compito. Caruccio
I bought this to reshape the geometry of my Albion Squire Line 13th C. Greatsword. I was laborious because the steel was much tougher than I expected it to be. All in all, I am very pleased with the file and would happily by another one. I also put a razor edge on my Gransfor Bruks hunter’s axe.
Have not used this yet but will be soon. I know how to use this properly so should be no problems but will not know until it is used. Very important piece of kit to find one that works and last for a while. We will see soon enough.
At first, I really didn’t like this. There’s a bit of a learning curve to it, especially if you’re not used to sharpening knives in this manner. It can be a bit labor intensive depending on the shape of the blade you’re trying to sharpen. I took one star away because it can start to hurt your hand a bit after a little while because of the paracord grip, it really doesn’t provide much comfort. I found that I have a lot better luck sharpening knives by sliding the spine of the knife backwards on this instead of forward…………But i’m no expert on knife sharpening by any means. I have a diamond sharpening system that works really good but it’s a royal pain in the butt to set up and use. This has become my go to sharpener just because of the pure ease of it. Now that I have the the motion and angle down, I’ll likely buy a few sharpening stones to tinker with as that seems like the best way to sharpen knives. I’d highly recommend this sharpener for camping, tackle boxes, hunting packs, hiking packs…..ect.
I own a large selection of whetstones, and this has them sat in a box seeing no use, whilst I sharpen all of my pocket knives/razors etc. with this!
It’s a perfect for small to mid-sized knives, scissors, chisels, straight-razors as well as other things around that size. I have had A LOT of use out of it and it’s holding up great, with phenomenal results every single time.
I like the fact it can travel with you round the garden and is at hand whenever it is needed
In my opinion, this is by far the best “field sharpener” out there for intermediate folks like myself. Easy to chuck in a pack, easy to use, easy to maintain But it is a field sharpener – best used to touch up your blades while you’re away from a bench and a full set of stones. After a break-in period (which the manufacturer is very open about), this piece has given me 3 years of perfect service in that role. I can see where people might question the long-term durability of the sharpening surfaces if used as a daily/primary sharpening system, but again, I don’t think that’s what it is designed to be. I’m sure purists and blade experts could get better results with a necklace pendant made of ultra-hard Arkansas stone and a bit of oil, but that’s beyond my skillset. I can manage to keep even my hardest stainless blades shaving sharp with this tool, and that’s by far better than the typical v-notch pocket sharpeners will ever do. If this sharpener ever wears out, I would buy another.
I’m lucky to have found it! Congratulations to the manufacturer!Very good grip and I like the workmanship on the handle with spinning! The case is made of real leather with a fantastic scent! The tool is quality work!
I’ve sharpened kitchen knives, both large and small, secateurs, an axe, and large garden shears – all lovely and sharp again.
Very easy to use, helped by the videos Sharpal have available at no charge, showing how their sharpeners are best used.
Not just a useful tool, but one that anyone can get to grips with thanks to the manufacturer’s videos
Would most definitely recommend
I’ve been using it for last couple of weeks on my and my scissors and my secretaries and it’s working where it’s performing well
VERY GOOD LOOKS GOOD FEELS GOOD VERY GOOD TOOL FOR USE IN OR OUTSIDE. I WOULD RECOMMEND.
I am always sharpening knives both for culinary work and my hobby of making things from leather. As most of us already know a really sharp knife is safer than a dull one, as much less pressure is required to make a cut. I already own a really effective knife sharpening system, but it requires a few minutes to set it all up so it only gets used when I have a few dulled tools.
I bought this as something to quickly restore a tool’s edge between bouts of major resharpening. I have just tested it on a kitchen knife that was last sharpened about 3 weeks ago. It was pretty dull as others in my household do horrid things to sharp knives, such a putting them in a pile of cutlery on the draining board.
With just a few strokes of the coarse side, a hone on the other, and a swift strop with the leather sheath, this put a superb edge on the knife. The tool proved very easy to use and it feels nicely balanced in the hand. The paracord binding on the handle allows a very secure grip and the leather sheath is a clever touch with its ability to be used as a strop. I like it very much and it will be a go-to tool for regular use. It would be especially useful to take on lengthy trips in the outdoors as it isn’t either heavy, or bulky, and will always ensure a decent edge on knives used in the field.
Highly recommended…
Very useful! Made well and works. You don’t have to wet the leather strop case as someone mentioned just squeeze the case and it will pull out a lot easie
This product works very well on domestic knives and I would buy another although not competitively priced.
I have had a tendency to purchase new secateurs as have never been able to keep them sharp. Have found that this tool is ideal and very simple to use having previously (unsuccessfully tried) various sharping stones. Watched a couple of YouTube videos for instruction. Can’t overstate how easy I found this to use. Touch either side of the stone to determine which side is which (coarse or fine) and then starting with the coarse side, rub away at a shallow angle and then repeat with the fine side. I have used the leather strap as a final polish but this isn’t really necessary (although it does make a very good case for the tool).
Can’t say anything about the longevity of the product having had it only a few months, but that said I have used it on about 10 of our gardening tools for a relatively intensive sharpen (as all were very blunt) and then use it briefly whenever putting tools away and currently no signs of ware. Basically it has paid for itself in not having to purchase new tools.
The removable paracord is an unnecessary feature, i.e. I can’t see why you would need it, however it is easy to hold. I do wonder how you would put it back if untied but don’t think this is a problem I am ever going to have. All in all a good product that I am happy to recommend.
After years trying to put an edge on frequently used knives with the old oil stones within about twenty minutes I had a razor sharp edge on the five knives. Great tool.
Perfect for the tool box. Extremely easy to use and give a very good edge in a couple strokes. If it lasts 3 years as per warranty I’m well chuffed.
Really useful little tool, aesthetically nice but very user friendly and works well
Fantastic field sharpener, gives much better control than smaller versions.
Easy to use, sharpened 2 axes and all my hunting knifes with great results
I bought this tool to sharpen my router bits. The tool is very strong and well made it does not flex when used so I get a nice flat cut it is not suitable for small router bits because of the thickness of the tool
Used the tool to sharpen several garden implements, secateurs, shears etc. did a really good job. Don’t get what the problem was getting the tool in and out of the sheath – no problems.
Works very well on knives puts a fine edge to knife.
I wasn’t happy with my original purchase as the sharpener broke within a few days. Sharpal got in touch with me, sent me a replacement and threw in an extra (of my choice) from their catalogue. Both items were at my door within a couple of days. They certainly deliver on customer satisfaction promise and so far both products are working fine. Chelsea from sharpal was very polite and helpful.
Thank you!!
Easy to use But would of liked it a bit longe
Very nice design easy to use. Works very well on kitchen knives and other blades. However I bought this product mainly to take hiking with me and to sharpen an axe up for wood cutting. It turned out to be very difficult to use on an axe. I was sharpening it for about 20 minutes and still did no manage to get a good enough edge on my axe. I’d recommend making the tool a bit rougher so it would would better and quicker.
I don’t like your constant request h go or praise. When I have a complaint you have allowed other customers to get in touch. VERY frightening.
This is a brilliant, versatile and highly portable sharpener. I have used it for sharpening garden tools, mower blade, penknives and household knives.
What a little Cracker. All the quality of a far more expensive item.
I’ve been using this in professional kitchens for the last month, and it works excellently
Love it. Very easy tu use and it does his job
Good size, easy to use and produces a good edge.
This makes short work of sharpening axes, knives, gardening tools. I have bought cheaper versions of this type of tool but this is the best by far.
Just sharpened my mora Garberg to razor sharpness and now onto my mora companion. It has a great feel in the hands and is really easy to get the hang of it. The leather holder is really nice touch.
I got this a few weeks back and decided to give it a try on an inexpensive Cabela’s stainless steel blade. I usually prefer carbon steel for my knives since it takes and holds an edge better, but it’s a paracord-wrapped fixed blade with hard plastic sheath and since I didn’t have one like it already, I needed it (“knife people” will understand).
I usually use whetstones for my sharpening sessions, going through a couple each folding knives, fixed blade knives, kitchen knives, etc. But unless I’m in my little work area, it’s a pain to break everything out for a quick clean up. This sharpener is great for that. 325 grit is just a touch rougher than I’d prefer for re-profiling (400 would be perfect for my tastes). 1250 grit is just a little rougher than I’d prefer for a “field sharpening” (1500-1600 would probably be my choice). But I also found it to wear down a little bit on both sides so it may have actually taken on that grit level by now – my cheap Cabela’s blade is very sharp and would definitely make short work of processing game or batoning wood and can be fixed right up in the field on a hunt or camping trip. I’ve also used it on a santoku which easily passes the “paper test” as well as a hatchet, which shows it can handle up to a pretty decent chunk of steel.
It’s now a permanent resident in my tackle box for fishing and I think another one for my hunting pack will be on the way shortly. You can definitely strop on the “back side” of the sheath as well, it takes stroping compound nicely and will clean up the edge given by the fine grit no problem so you can get an excellent edge without needing to break out the files and stones.
So it’s not a whetstone set in terms of versatility, and for beginners it will take some practice to really get used to sharpening with it, but I really like it. Excellent in the field and good for quick jobs around the house. Dull knives are dangerous knives!
I used this to sharpen some fruit tree loppers but have also found it useful for many household items, such as my cooking knives.
It’s got two sides, 1 very robust and coarse and 1 very delicate to hone .
Better than I expected, at this price point. (I soaked the holster , as I always do with any leather holster – and the tool fits brilliantly).
This product has been the quickest and most effective knife sharpener I have bought.
It’s very easy to use, great instructions and a helpful video on YouTube as well. And it’s quite appealing to the eye.
Overall would 100% recommend.
Good sharpener, great leather sheath, love the handle. Wouldn’t fancy re-doing the handle if I unwound it though. Fits easily in pocket or tacklebox, puts a good edge on my fishing knives.
I sharpen many tools for a gardener friend. This tool is wonderful. Very easy to use and gives good results without oil.
This is a great sharpener. However, take note of the comments regarding the sheath and soak it and stretch it before trying to put the sharpener in.
Easy to use, very tactile… Everything has been sharpened with ease… Love this
Been looking for a sharpening tool to sharpen my knife/tool and been comparing among many brands with decent reviews. It does what it said on the tin. The coarse and fine side helps to get a very nice edge on my knife. Though the handle is comfortable but am not a fan of the ‘string’ handle. Other than that it is a stellar product for a sharpening tool.
The strop is supposed to be a sheath. Very difficult to get the sharpener into it and virtually impossible to get it out. Very, very tight.
Follow up. Trying to get the sharpener out of the sheath caused all the string handle to come apart.
Would return it but for that.
My wife recently loves her gardening work and decided to rearrange our garden plants and flower bed. She was complaining that both of our Fiskars cutters not sharp anymore when she tries to trim our Rosemary plant, therefore I had spent some time to search for a small sharpener to surprise her. I found this American brand Sharpal Diamond Sharpening Stone, it looks like it is well design and the orange string as handle impress me. so, I had placed my order with my Prime Account. Surprisingly, the Sharpal tools turn up in the next day and I am impressed with its packaging, it also had a small window to feel the leather finishing which I think it is very good experience.
Without my wife notice, I had tried to sharpen our cutter and put it back in our tool’s cabinet. Yesterday, she shouted at me and say amazing the Fiskers cutter cut very well. She absolutely impresses with this product after I demo to her and she say it is easy to use. I think I should recommend this to everyone. Definitely a good piece of sharpening tool you would not miss and should keep one in your tool box.
Sturdy and effective little tool. Looks good quality and like it will last. Has sharpened my old, blunt secateurs a treat. I am really pleased with it. Can recommend.
Does the job, brings knives back to life.
The leather case was very hard and had to soak with a leather softener to be able to use it.
I bought this knife sharpener after trying several sharpeners that didn’t work. Expensive knife sharpeners. That did NOT work.
But after trying this sharpener just one time on my Benchmade pocket hunting knife, I was able to put the edge back on it in minutes. And it got my knife so sharp that I could actually shave the hair on my arm with it. The course diamond abrasive side removes steel fast. And the fine diamond side of it puts the finishing touch on it quickly. I am impressed with how fast it worked on a knife that I had almost given up on trying to put the edge back on it due to how hard the steel is on my knife. But this sharpener worked like a charm on it. Not sure where all the bad reviews are coming from. The sharpener I ordered arrived in a timely manner, and it done exactly what the manufacturer claimed it could do. It still has the same abrasiveness as when it was new. And I have sharpened several knives with it. And it fits in the sheath that it came with like a charm.

I have an industrial sharpner too but it’s not that great at sharpening long blades so this is very handy
This is my second time to purchase product of Sharpal and really like this reliable brand, their product always surprise me and never let me down!
Sorry that I did not take any photos to show you while I camping in Snowdonia but able to capture a few when it first arrive. I brought this very handy dual grit Buddyguard sharpening stone together with me when I went to camping in Snowdonia National Park in the August bank holiday . It were bushes and plant blocking along the path up to the hill , my knife turn so sharp with a few push on the grit without any water or oil needed. My little knife able to chop all the plants down along the path and Sharpal just make my path much easier.
I am so tempted to buy all the product from Sharpal and I think I am just addicted to their product. Haha. They probably not the cheapest in the market but I am sure they having the best sharpening stone ever.
A brand which I strongly recommended!
Superb addition to my field sharpening set. Easy to use and extremely effective.
Def recomend this product for value for money and also quality
great quality, does what it says. looks more expensive than the price. durable. i just love it. great buy. looks fancy.
I bought this to smooth the damaged edge on a glass ornament and it worked well. I sharpened a knife – another good result. I then tried to sharpen the edge of a garden tool (edging spade) which scraped the diamonds off the surface. I would only recommend it for light work.
Sharpal customer services have been really good and offered to replace my sharpener, but I have in fact continued to use it for refreshing the edge of my woodworking tools each time I use them. I have been working with oak and having a good edge on tools makes the job much easier. It only takes a minute with the sharpener on the back and front of a chisel to create a really sharp edge and I do not always resort to the strop. The strop does however create a shiny surface for the perfectionist, particularly when used with honing past. I think that my problem early on was to treat the diamond sharpener like a file and apply too much pressure on the return stroke such that the sharp edge of the tool dug into the substrate to scrape off the diamonds. It is best to apply pressure only on the forward stroke coming off of the edge or moderate the pressure overall. A diamond sharpener is not a file and should be treated with respect as it is amazing technology. I would recommend this sharpener to anyone who does woodwork.
Well this little sharpener is great, I love the convenience of it being handheld and able to take blade to stone or use it similar to a file and take stone to the blade… My only issue with it is the diamond grit will fall or wear off easily if you use any pressure while sharpening (with diamonds you should not use any pressure just the weight of the blade) and also the chrome started to peel off the sides after only a month of owning it so i hope it doesn’t peel off a big chunk and take the abrasive with it… All in all though this thing is great, the rough side is plenty to remove material fast if you have chipped blade or need to reset the edge bevel and the fine side is really fine once broken in so it leaves you with a great usable edge finish almost polished which a few swipes on a decent strop afterwards does leave you with a polished edge…. Great for throwing in a glove box or a camper, hiking bag or i even keep mine in the kitchen and use it daily in place of a butchers steel because I like to use a pristine edge each and every time I cut rather than using the knife till it cannot cut then sharpen it…
This thing is amazing. The grits are perfect. I bought one for use as a field sharpener, but started using it in my wood shop for my drawknife. Then I started using it in the kitchen (I even do the large chef’s knife with it), so I’m buying another. The two grits are perfect and the strop works (I did not apply any compound to it). Some complain about the strop being too tight. When you first get it, put the sheath on a few inches until it feels like it’s stuck, then give it a handful of hard rotational twists. Then push it on a couple more inches and repeat. Then push it on the rest of the way and give it a handful more rotational twists. 2 minutes’ worth of work and you will have no problems taking the strop on and off. My only complaint is that I think the paracord is stupid and gimmicky. Anybody who brings a sharpener this nice into the bush is going to have paracord in their pack. If the paracord ever comes loose by accident it will be a pain to re-wrap it. I would much prefer a plastic/leather/etc. grip for the handle. That said, this is a very minor quibble that doesn’t detract from my enthusiasm for this sharpener.
18 MONTH UPDATE:
I have two of these. One is in my wood shop and gets moderate use on things like my drawknife and my axes. That said, I have re-beveled a few folding knives taking of a LOT of steel (like from 25* bevel to 10*) and also a hatchet. It has held up flawlessly. The other one is in my kitchen and it gets an absolute workout. On my personal knives (the GOOD ones) I strop daily and then resharpen on the fine side about once every week or two. On my (ahem) wife’s knives (which I hate), I pretty much have to grind them down frequently starting with the coarse side because they are not the best steel . So this one gets a lot of use. It’s also the sharpener I use on my beater folding knives when I come in from doing yard work and that often involves repairing damage (plunge your knife into bags of gravel, or into dirt to cut holes in weedblock fabric and you’ll do lots of damage). Again, it has held up flawlessly. I cannot find any spots where diamonds have come off. It has held up as well as the DMT stone in my woodshop which is used for all my planes and chisels.
I have applied green compound to the strops on both. But I rarely use them. They are perfectly serviceable strops and would work great in the bush when you don’t want to carry a strop with you because it makes it an all-in-one package. But I am never really in that kind of situation and even camping I have a small strop in my kit — in the kitchen I have a really long one. The issue is just that because the sheath strop is curved to the seams, you can’t get right up to the handle on some knives. It’s also pretty thick leather so you are more likely to round your edge after repeated stroppings (I use 2oz leather for wooden strops). Now this quibble is really because I’m a perfectionist and using a FIELD sharpening stone for precision work. For normal field use, the strop really works great — it’s a very small compromise. In other words, if I don’t have a wooden strop available, I’m not going to complaining using the sheath strop. To add more clarity, I used the sheath strop for the kitchen one for over a year before I got around to making a strop to permanently live there. So yea, the strop works.
I’m most impressed that it has held up all this time under constant use. Also, the paracord I originally complained about has not come loose, which is good. But I’d still rather see a plastic/composite handle.
Also, I saw someone complaining about the strop not holding compound. I had no issues. The compound goes on the rough side; not the smooth side.
39 MOTH UPDATE:
Both of them are still going strong and there has been ZERO drop off in performance. The one I keep in my basement woodshop has re-profiled the edges of countless knives (I have quite the knife collection) and even some subtle blade shape re-profiling and knife restoration. I have been absolutely BRUTAL with it. I keep waiting for the diamond loss and it just hasn’t happened. Additionally, any concern about the paracord is gone as none of it has come loose. I’m about to purchase a third one strictly for backpacking/hiking and I will cut off the handle keeping the diamond part and leather strop/sheath to make a very compact version that saves almost half the weight (think Falkniven DC4, only with better grit options and indestructible and with a stropping sheath so yeah, BETTER).
QUICK CLEANING TIP: To clean off the build-up of metal particles from whatever tools you’ve sharpened just use a white eraser like the Papermate ones that are about 2.5″ x 1″.
