Shame it uses third party application, although does work perfectly. There is many cheaper locks that with tuya app, and they do the job to. Although my level of confidence in Simpled lays above any othe
Wanted a new door locking system for our Gym,
Did some research online and Simpled slim smart door kept coming up.
Seeing as it was a UK based company I went with this one.
Simple enough to install with some minor modifications to the door (drilling more holes) haha. But over all easy peasy once you figure it out.
Only thing that might be good to have in the pack is a template to assist with the measurements for the cable and the top fixing position.
May buy more for my house doors time will tell
This is a very nice lock and even I, a bit of a DIY disaster, was able to install it – albeit with a couple of non-standard twists. The fingerprint sensor works reasonably reliably. The NFC works with a wide range of things, including the supplied keyring tags, many credit cards and my medical-alert bracelet.
Drilling the door for the battery wire was straightforward, if a bit nerve-racking on my brand new door. My only regret is that, unavoidably, if I ever re-install the original handle, I will have to fill and paint the hole.
The supplied pillars which fix the inside and outside handles together were unsuitable for my existing mortise* but I was able to use a standard M5 threaded female-female 15mm pillar instead for the sliding pillar. I did take the trouble to remove the mortise and multipoint mechanism because I wanted to be sure that I would not drill into any of the mechanism. This was easy because the screws that hold the multipoint mechanism into the door (crosshead) are distinguished from those that you DON’T need to undo (star).
The instructions say to tape the rubber gaskets in place with masking tape while installing, but I found that they had little lugs that hold them into the handle so this was not necessary.
The battery door cover is very loose so I put some sticky foam pads on the inside which press on the batteries so that the latches engage better. This need surprised me, since a sucker is included in the install kit which is apparently to help you remove the cover!
My wife always has a lot of trouble with fingerprint sensors on phones, laptops, etc. Apparently this is quite common for people with a tendency towards dry hands. An article that we found (about nurses and fingerprint accessed drug-dispensing systems) suggested wiping a finger on your forehead and, amazingly, this works quite well – not only on this sensor but also on others we have tried it with.
———————————-
*The hole in my mortise where the top pillar should go was only big enough for a screw – hence the need for a short pillar on the sliding bolt. There is about 14mm between the face of the door and the face of the mortise so a 15mm pillar just fits (when the rubber gasket is installed). You might like to file a little off the pillar if the handle seems loose. I think a 10mm pillar would not have enough thread.
Installation went fine, although I think the steps could be clearer. E.g what all the spare screws etc are for, where to find the right orientation for installing the batteries. Installation was fine but I had to drill two extra holes. This was my old door handle, not Simpled issue.
Everything works fine, no issues with fingerprint use. Very solid and well made. App is useful and free, with no annual subscriptions etc.
Everyone races to the door now to be the one to open it. Feels weird leaving the house with no keys! Overall, very impressed with the product and its usability but the installation instructions would benefit from a slight tweak.
This is a very good lock, i’ve used it now for a few days and it’s working exactly as expected.
The most useful feature – the main reason I bought the lock was that it was ‘always locked’. By default the outdoor handle is disconnected (so the night latch cannot be opened)… essentially, if the door is closed, it is locked (albeit without the deadlocks), it also allows (even when the lock isn’t active) you to lock the deadbolts from outside… just not possible to unlock them without the keyfob/print/etc..
Installation was reasonably straight forward, but is not as simple as it may seem. the bottom screw went through the euro-cylinder of my door (no problems), the other screw position (although adjustable) required me to drill a hole for it. This wasn’t a problem, but it did mean I needed to remove the mortice in the lock (which on a uPVC door isn’t that straight forward…) to make sure I wasn’t drilling into the mortice.
There are some design flaws with this though that really shouldn’t exist.
– The adjustable (top) barrel for the rear screw to screw into can be accidentally unscrewed if your undoing the lock – I found this out when it dropped into the cavity in my uPVC door … there are 2 extra in the pack, but are shorter – luckily one of those worked for me.
– The spindle bar needs a cotter pin to hold it in place – to me this is genuinely a design flaw… it’s adding width/diameter to a hole that is likely very close to the size of the spindle for the door handle… it is incredibly difficult to enlarge a hole already in place – meaning if your hole isn’t originally excessively wide (and a factory door likely is drilled to small-ish tollerances), your going to need some time messing with this – this could easily be overcome with a grub screw or similar – which is why it’s a design flaw (albeit a minor one, and only affecting installation), another minor takeaway by me is the installation of the wire – the manual gives the impression you (maybe?) should remove the battery pack from the device … this is held in with 4 screws – however you do NOT need to remove this or even attempt to, it’s referring only to the cover over it not the pack itself (it tells you to use a screwdriver – which is where the possible confusion comes in)
The setup is pretty good – the biggest issue I could come up with here, is that the installation booklet doesn’t (seem to) tell you how to get the handle into ‘setup mode’ (adding a bluetooth admin to the door), this caused a bit of head scratching, but not really much of an issue…
all in all, a good lock, at a good price with a lot of features for what you pay for.
Installation wasn’t that hard, but is not simply take old handle off, and put this on – it’s a lot more DIY than this… if your not comfortable with drilling holes in your door, etc… this likely will not be something you want.
It wasn’t hard to fit, though drilling through the door was a bit scary. The app works well, the tags work well, the fingerprint works about 50% of the time. Alexa integration works well, if a little slow. I shared an eKey with a friend, now his phone can open my door too.
I haven’t yet managed to get a pin to work. The keypad is inconsistent, sometimes registering a button press, sometimes not. You have to enter 8 digits from a random auto generated pin before you can change it to something simpler – but as it’s damn near impossible to enter those 8 digits, I’ll never be able to change it to something easier. Still, if I lose my keys and my phone, there’s a fair chance I’ll be able to open the door with my finger.
This lock was installed at our AirBnB.
It replaced the existing Connexis 2 which was insecure by design – no auto-lock and had to be removed.
The most important feature of Simpled is the Auto-Lock – this means that it provides basic locking capability on the closure of the door. A guest can not leave the property open by accident. More secure Multi-point locking is still achieved by the lifting of the handle.
The door exiting is easy too – it unlocks immediately from the inside when the handle is pushed down – vital for escape in a fire scenario.
Fitting is very easy – much easier than the Connexis 2 & fits more doors.
The fingerprint detection was unreliable on our Simpled, but since we only need a numeric passcode which is excellent, it satisfies our requirements. Mobile app – eKey, pendants – works very well too.
There are lots of ‘how to’ videos so you can not go wrong.
I’ve had this door lock fitted for a few months now. I decided to wait to review the lock until we had a good use of its features.
Firstly, the fitting of the unit can be really simple or really awkward depending on the type of door you have, and the handle you’re swapping out.
Due to the nature of our specific door, there was some drilling of new holes required to feed the cable for connection to the battery side and and retaining bolts through to the outside unit.
The power cable was a little fiddly to feed through the door and connect but with some patience and perseverance I successfully managed to get everything connected up and working. The full installation took me 45mins to 1Hr and i consider myself an average DIYer.
I go through this little story to demonstrate that the replacement process might not be as straight forward as you might think. It all depends on the age and style of your existing door. The best scenario is to fit to a brand new door that has not been cut to suit a previous fitting, but most people I’m sure will be wanting to retrofit. Before you order, be prepared to either undertake some serious DIY or pay a qualified tradesman but i would defiantly say that this was in the remit of someone who has tackled DIY before so don’t be scared.
The lock itself is great. I have invested in a remote gateway and have full access to lock and unlock the door wherever I am. The internal storage of the unit deals with the registration of up to 200 users (there’s only 3 of us) and you can access by either RFID card, fingerprint, numeric code or phone app. No personal biometrics are shared outside of the individual locks internal storage.
The phone app is pretty basic but easy enough to use. Generic RFID cards work with this lock so you can produce new “Keys”. The fingerprint reader is a pain if you have wet hands or the handle has got wet so it’s best to have a card as a backup just in case. The fingerprint scan normally works first or second time in the dry so no problems there.
You do get 2 rather specific manual keys should the batteries die and there is a micro-USB socket underneath (you cannot use this for full-time powering the lock).
I’m happy with the lock and it has provided a new level of convenience for us. It is secure and operates similar to hotel room locking mechanisms by mechanically separating the handle from the catch and mortice locking mechanisms. The unit is good quality with solid metal components and has survived recent bad weather. Just make considerations to the installation effort or costs required to avoid disappointment.
I haven’t used the customer care yet myself but i have heard good things about the What’s App and i have watched loads of videos online about the lock which i found really helpful.
I would say if you want the convenience of a nice looking door handle with not bad security and you don’t want to be carrying keys or your in the habit of forgetting keys (my child of 17) go for it highly recommend.
This is a great lock.
If you have the right door, it is extremely easy to install. The fiddly part was removing the previous handle/lock. Once this was out, it was extremely easy to put in. It’s 3 screws/ports and that’s it.
Sadly our new build house had the door cut strangely so it leaves a gap at the bottom. No fault of Simpled. We will just cover that area.
That was the only down side.
The app is easy to use, lots of ways to open the door and lock it.
I emailed the company for advice on a Saturday and actually got an answer by Sunday morning!
The only reason I am not giving it a 5 star is because I have to patch up my door and I wish the door handle would be slightly longer.
1. Very nicely packaged and looks and feels good quality.
2. Keypad works well but fingerprint hit and miss (just like ipad for old fingers). Keys work.
3. The recommended app works well.
4. Handbook/user manual quite disappointing.
4.1 It says batteries are included – I did not expect any – none are supplied.
4.2 It says a cable extender is included – not necessary – not supplied
4.3 The kit of screws, spindles, stubs supplied is different to the list in the manual. And most are not used – confusing. The manual should probably give more information on this.
4.4 The manual does not say which screw or stub to use – especially when two Allen key screws and a fitting Allen key are supplied…..and are not used. Another diagram appears to be using a larger Allen key with a crossheaded screw to reverse the handles.
4.5 Lithium or alkaline batteries are recommended – I am surprised that one type is not better than the other – but Simpled are the experts!!! I will checkout both during the next year or so.
4.6 The manual only seems to deal with multipoint locks although mortice locks are mentioned as usable.
5. I bought the lock for an internal door from my garage into the house and just wanted some simple entrance protection when the up and over garage door was open – so I just needed to essentially replace the current handles which opened the door latch. So I followed the instructions to fit the Simpled lock. However it did not provide any security at all – why – well it appears that the latch of my old lock could be opened by lifting or lowering the door handle and this means when the Simpled door lock handle is locked – raising the outside handle undoes the latch. This facility is usually to engage a dead bolt – but is incompatible with the latch I have just described. I contacted Simpled with the problem and suggested a possible solution….I did get a quick reply but it asked for a video..not helpful and not technical.
The instructions mandate that the arrow on the spindle receptor is pointed to the handle. However for me this did not work (see above) as raising the locked handle opened the door. I therefore tried other positions and found that having the arrow pointing upwards solved the problem. I have told Simpled about the problem and the solution – I await their comments.
It all now works nicely
As I have a number of smart devices installed in my home I decided it was time to ‘bite the bullet’ and install a ‘SMART’ front door lock.
I have a friend who already has a smart lock installed on the main entry to his home (similar style, different brand) and he said it had been a nightmare to install and had to contact a door & glazing company to complete the install!
Although I am quite elderly (70 y.o.), I am diy and smart home competent. so after reading and researching the vast range of devices both on amazon and elsewhere I chose the Simpled SF-SPS Smart Lock. The fact that the distributor and support is UK based sold it for me.
The lock arrived with the usual Amazon rapidity and after removing the customary Amazon packaging I was surprised to see revealed the Simpled box – a very upmarket quality container, I was going to moan about the cost of this plush packaging, however on checking the contents it undoubtably did keep the lock and accessories very secure and shockproof within.
On examining the lock kit it appeared an attractive, upmarket, very well made product with a well thought out and complete fitting kit. Batteries are included and are Duracell.
I unpacked all the items and read the included manual which good infographics, was very well laid out and written, actually in English :). I would definitely advise viewing some of the You Tube videos prior to installing the lock to assist with the fitting etc.
As the lock memory would save settings during battery change I decided, due to the inclement weather, to set up the smart lock on my kitchen table prior to installation i.e., I input my fingerprint and 2 of the NFC cards and a couple of passwords. I have also purchased the additional Wi-Fi bridge device to enable Alexa and remote control. The full process was well explained and amazingly easy, there were absolutely no hiccups or delays in any of the processes, in fact this is one of the easiest, most straightforward installs of any ‘Smart Home’ device. I even set up the Alexa ‘Skill’ for TTlock and it was also immediately recognised and operational. (The skill reassuringly requires a password to operate the Simpled lock).
Today (17/12/23) was lock install day! I have an aluminium/pvc 4 panel double glazed glass front door with a multi point system and barrel lock, a typical modern door for the last 20 odd years, fortunately the replacement lock surround is the same dimensions as the old lock.
I dismantled the lock exterior ironmongery and removed the barrel etc. and followed the instructions via the manual and knowledge gained from You Tube. I had one hole to drill in order to accommodate the securing screw of the new lock and that was that! ‘Simpled Lock’ fitted!
I replaced the AA batteries checked with NFC card and my fingerprint – the door unlocked – I am amazed at how easy this was, it took 27minutes to exchange the door locks, but a word of caution, my door was an easy fit and although a typical door, we all know there is a myriad of differing door and lock styles – however with patience and reasonable DIY knowledge…
Congratulations Simpled for an excellent product.
P.S Not a complaint but there was no self adhesive NFC card to be found in the packaging, I appreciate this is one of those things but if you could forward one via post I would greatly appreciate the gesture.
Thank you.
