I had metal 40 x 40 posts to concrete into the ground. The auger and an electric drill did the job literally in seconds. Good strong blades too, as I had 12 holes to drill and a few caught some rocks on the way down.
Blades survived well. Good pieces of kit.
I didn’t dislike anything I thought it was useful and did the job but care has to be taken on stoney
ground as it will lock up the drill.
Lightweight and strong and made easy work breaking up a compact dry clay soil as well as super handy for loosening soil between plants when you need to go deeper than a hoe but a fork won’t fit.
Easy to use and dug up a fairly large piece of ground very quickly.
Really simple, made planting a bare root hedge so much quicker and easier.
These garden hole diggers are fantastic. Really helped make lighter work of turning soil ove
I used this on the allotment and it does a great job
I drilled over 270 holes through heavy clay soil in my back lawn. This auger bit did them all without any drama, I was expecting the welds to snap, given its price but it was more than up to the job.
Highly recommended!
My garden is composed of extremely heavy clay with a tiny amount of decent soil on the top, so digging a hole, planting bulbs or putting in washing line stakes is a nightmare. More than a decade later I finally thought, ooh I wonder if there’s an easier way turns out yes, there is with this magical device that I totally regret not buying sooner.
Attached this onto a drill and made a perfect hole with minimal effort and managed to get a new washing line stake in with no swearing and really quickly too! Will also be using this for creating holes for bulbs and supports, just wish I’d bought one sooner!
Brilliant hubby loves it has made his job of planting and digging over a heavy patch of clay a doddle
I first used this to make a hole to hold a length of pipe that I could fill with postcrete to support a bird feeder. I used an 18 volt cordless drill to drive the auger.
It is now available to make holes for planting bulbs.
Simple to use but seemed to Chuck dirt about more than drill a nice hole.. maybe I was using it wrong?
I purchased to randomly plant daffy and tulips. Works very well. Better than expected.
Fig deeper with this sturdy and well designed planting tool.
Simply fit the shank into the chuck of your favorite electric drill , drill as deep as you can ,and pop your
bulbs in to this perfect hole.
They will thrive throughout the coldest of Winters.
I have used both the Largest and smallest in the range and the quality and robustness of this product is to be commended.
Perfect for the job I needed to do, the long reach was ideal
I’m not sure how I have managed without this tool throughout my adult gardening life!
As previous reviews state, you need to be ready for snagging on stones, as you can get kick back, but I planted a sack of bulbs in stony unprepared ground without the usual effort involved in the job.
The auger was up to the roughest of ground and the price was excellent.
This is a great peice of kit and if you have planting to do, this is the tool for the job!
I used it for getting the roots of a bamboo out of a very large pot.
Product has a couple of yellow plastic tools with it. No idea what they are for. Product seems ok.
I bought this Auger for my lawn as it had become so compacted that when it rains it floods. I have tried using a fork as some websited advise to loosen it up and have done this several times to no avail. I also tried a corer that lifts plugs out when you stamp it down onto the lawn and spent hours cleaning out each of the tubes so that was no use. Now using the Auger I have drilled holes all over the lawn which removes the soils and leaves a hole. Now we will have to wait and see if this does the job. It will also be of use in the garden when it comes to planting plugs that you buy at Garden Centres or in the post.
I used this auger to dig holes for some posts I was installing in my garden, it worked really well but the soil was fairly soft, the true test will be on the next project when I have to go into hard ground
Coupled to a powerful cordless drill this is a bit of a beast! Made installing my polytunnel hoops really easy.
Much better than the last auger I bought, this one has a solid bar centre piece which has made it a lot more robust and the angular tip helps to break up compacted soil and allows the blades to dig in without too much effort. Don’t forget to turn down the torque on the drill to protect the wrist. Overall very pleased with the purchase
I bought this to pre-drill some fence post holes to ensure the posts where positioned accurately before they were too deep and it would be too hard to adjust their position. I also used to to help ensure a new washing pole socket was accurately positioned and the pole itself remained upright. I’m sure it does a sterling job for 40mm diameter bulb placement as it drilled though stony, compacted soil and roots without an issue. BFM.
Saved alot of time to dig a 2 foot post hole
wanted a larger diameter one really but it works quite well
Nothing to dislike. Excellent for turning soil for bedding plants. Ideal for bulb planting. Great tool
Made fast easy work of planting bulbs and bedding plants or even for simply freeing up the ground for weeding. Good value for a sturdy tool. Make sure you buy the longest one or you’ll be on you knees.
Very useful tool for planting of small plants trees etc, make sure you use you high quality cordless drill
I’ve been using this to improve drainage in my heavy clay soil. Initially I wasn’t sure it would be man-enough for the job, however I’ve been impressed. It would have been better still with an SDS fitting rather than hex.
I used this to make post holes and it worked like a dream. I would definitely recommend
Great bit of kit, but it will snap out of your hand if you go too fast with a drill and hit a big stone.
We used this auger to drill holes in extremely compacted soil to plant fruit bushes. It worked really well, 9 bushes planted very quickly, and all are looking really healthy. Very pleased with it.
It used to take me a few hours at least to dig a hole in the ground for any reasonably size pot plants. With this drill bit, it took me less than a minute!
Obviously, test with slow speed first and don’t try it with stony ground.
Another tip is to make sure the bit is straight with the drill.
Now I need a longer extension cable to reach the back of my garden.
A good tool easily drills with 18v drill in soil, come in handy when camping
This tool makes planting bulbs so much easier as it drills a perfect hole each time.
Aerating compacted soil following new construction of bungalow & planting of bulbs & flowers
Bought this to help with planting bare root plants for a hedge. Very pleased with the item, it made short work of drilling holes through lots of old roots. Best to use with a reversible drill so that you can get it out if it jams. Put the drill on the slowest setting and take it easy. The holes can be reamed out a bit by moving the auger side to side to accommodate the bigger plants. It drilled around 250 holes and still looks like new. Great bit of kit.
Just what I wanted for himself to do the graft!
Using it to drill out some holes in my clay soil lawn. Does the trick. Wish it was longer.
Very strong and great material – I was lazy and used this for digging a trench in very hard soil.
Excellent for drilling holes to take plants/bulbs in garden.
Planting bulbs easy to use makes short work of the task in hand and talking of hands you must be very careful as the auger Jammed and the force of drill damaged my wrist lucky I let go or I would have had bad injury
However still a good product and I would buy it agai
Well made strong used to plant daffodil bulbs in the lawn as am in my eighties found it hard work bending down planted 6kg of bulbs
Ordered a 5 cm (diameter) x 42 cm (length) one. Received a 4 cm diameter one
(hence the 4 stars). But in fact works better because our ground is full of rocks and the smaller diameter makes it easier to drill and then I can always move it around and widen the hole for the bigger bulbs.
Be careful if you have roots and rocks in ground since auger will catch and twist the drill and your hand so best to use at low speed.
Bought this to plant large size daffodil bulbs on our lawn. I must admit I had never heard of this idea of using your drill to dig the holes but all in all this method is much easier than doing it manually. Saying that i do have an old electric drill and it dig struggle at times, but that was more to do with my drill I think. A good quality powerful electric drill would make the job a doddle I would think.
Nice piece of kit that does the job. I used it to loosed some hard clay soil. My drill didn’t stopped as the ground was so hard, but the bit did not bend or snap.
Purchased this to break up hard ground with many stones that I could not get a fork or spade to cut into. Having tried on and off for weeks the idea of using one of these came to me and worked successfully, I have slightly bent it and the hex shaped end that fits in a power tool chunk has lost some metal, but it successfully cut through all of my problem soil and has allowed me to complete this job. I should add that I was using an old 750w electric drill with a mains lead as this has more torque than most modern drills and that I had chosen this drill bit because it was wide and had a long shaft. In the next few weeks I will also use it to make an easy job of planting spring bulbs
Bought this to help dig anchor points for concreting in a kids climbing frame, the climbing frame was too heavy to move so I had restricted access trying to get a spade in around the corners without damaging the wood.
This worked a treat on my 18v Dewalt cordless, it went straight through the layer of top soil and to my surprise it even churned through the 3 or 4 inch layer of compacted stones which had previously covered our back garden (the previous owners used it as a car park). It then went straight into the think wet clay below and helped pull out lumps of clay with ease. Really surprised how well it worked.
The first corner took well over an hour to dig out with a pick and a trowel, with the help of this auger the other 3 corners took less than 15min each.
Really wish I had this a few years ago when I was digging out fence posts
Very sturdy and well made
Will help with putting in fence posts
My wife loves this tool. Does exactly what it says on the tin. Be careful of roots
Great product for the planting of plants and baby trees and bushes. You need a slow speed drill otherwise the drill could jam when hitting debri in the earth and tends to snatch
I used this auger attached to my corded drill to drill Starter holes for some 65mm posts I was installing to form a rope fence in the garden. It easily dealt with the chalky soil I have. Although it couldn’t go deep enough for the final installation, it gave me A great head start for each hole. In all I installed 13 posts. The auger is still in good condition with no twists or bends on the screw.
The item arrived on time and was as described. The purpose of the rod was to use and electric drill to make holes in the earth for plants to be sown I also found out that it can be used for digging over a patch of ground if you use care and take your time. Well pleased with the item
This thing is awesome. Apart from nearly breaking my wrist on using a hand drill with this, it’s awesome!
I came across a picture of one of these drill pieces by chance and ordered one straight away. It’s absolutely marvellous for me, a 54 year old woman with joint problems. I wanted to move a rose bush across the garden and it was child’s work which ordinarily would have taken several hours to dig the soil.
Planted 6 rows of potatoes at my allotment in about 30 minutes. Ok – so I didn’t earth them up, but it was super easy. A little wearing on the wrist, but that was a lot of holes! My 5 year old Bosch 18v Lithium drill lasted for all the holes, and had plenty of life left in the battery (heavy clay soil), but the drill and battery were getting a little warm! Not a problem, but it does work the drill quite hard.
Perfect size for 9cm pots if you wiggle the bit around a little. I will be using this for planting out all bulbs and plants in pots.
Also great for loosening soil and drilling out difficult weeds!
One of two tools that I purchased this year that have changed the way I garden, and will make the whole planting process much more of a pleasure than a chore 🙂
Makes light work of planting 100 hedging plants in heavy clay soil.
This worked pretty well for drilling into the soil at various points in the garden. Some places I had to give up on as there were too many stones or long grass (which wraps around the auger too much, like spaghetti), but in viable areas it did a great job. The abortive attempts in stony ground didn’t seem to damage the drill bit, so happy enough with that.
Sturdy and exactly what I needed to dig holes for my bare roots strawberries. I will definitely use it for all my annuals this year. Thanks!
Created a very level hedge in a very steep hard embankme
Quite surprised how effective this is in my makita combi drill. Even better with a drill that also has side handle so you can use both hands to stop the drill spinning. Will probably buy another for smaller planting
Excellent. Just what I needed to plant some potted laurels
Have only just used this to plant small plants and summer bulbs. It made the job very easy, especially as the ground was fairly compact after the winter. Would definitely recommend this product.
Works a treat. Used for small post holes for a low wooden fence, only struggled when it hit thick trees roots but otherwise could drill down 18 inches in about 10 seconds
Super tool
Does what it says
Could put 500 bulbs in no time
Will strongly recommend it
Be careful about depth
It can go very deep if not careful
