Frequently Asked Questions:

1. Do the USB-C ports support media display?

Media display is only supported via the HDMI port. This hub does not support media display via the USB-C ports, including when using a USB-C to HDMI cable, or USB-C to DisplayPort cable.

2. Does the USB-C PD port support charging tablets (including iPad Pro) or phones?

No, due to the power input limitations of mobile devices, this hub is not suitable for pass-through charging tablets (including iPad Pro) or phones. Also, only the USB-C PD port supports charging. The USB-A ports and USB-C data port do not support charging.

3. What charging speed does this hub support?

The USB-C PD port supports up to 85W for charging the connected laptop and 15W for powering the hub. A 100W Power Delivery charger and cable are required to support 85W charging.

4. Does this hub work with iPad Pro?

Yes, but you must update to iPadOS.

Great quality product! I used their Anker USB-C 100W Charger, it charges my laptop and all hub functions works fast. It has a travel pouch to protect the hub during travel, the build fees solid. Happy purchase.

This hub works as advertised – it provides HDMI, USB-C and B connectivity along with SD card slots. It doesn’t get particularly hot and comes with a nice little bag to put it in. Cheers

Much like all my other Anker reviews, it’s fantastic quality and works as intended.

Rarely any faults with Anker products and on the odd occasion there has been (I’ve bought a lot over the years) they were extremely quick to reach out and replace.

It’s a well, solid piece of kit. Exactly what you’d expect from Anker.

Came with a lovely little pouch to put it all in when in my bag. Ticks all the boxes for me.

Only not 5* as it doesn’t have an ethernet port.

For an relatively affordable hub it’s pretty good. So far it’s been working fine, but you always take a risk with these devices at this price point. I just wish you could get it with a removable cable, as that’s almost always the point of failure.

I was looking for a means to use Dex on my Samsung S22 whilst away on continental trips on my motorcycle. Using this device, a small Bluetooth keyboard and mouse I can effectively replace my laptop taking up very little precious luggage space. Using hotel TVs and an HDMI cable along with the charger, that I take anyway, I’m set for both emergency work tasks as well as route planning, restaurant and hotel booking etc.

I did try an unknown brand first but that had to be returned as it didn’t work satisfactorily. No issues with the Anker though, seems rock solid. I wasn’t expecting power from the USB 3 and USB-C ports having read the description on Amazon. However, these are capable of powering USB devices such as a portable screen. Maybe it’s just that these ports are not capable of high power charging, just std. USB power, unlike the main USB-C flylead on the device which can provide the full input minus 15W?

One of the two cheaper ones I bought had an issue I ascribed to being a bit temperamental, and something I could live with. With this hub the problem is gone. Namely: my display settings don’t go nuts if I unplug the power source from the hub, when in use. (I have a 2nd external monitor).

The second hub had 2 other issues, like distorted display on my external display, after waking from sleep. However, that might have been due to a faulty hub. Maaaybe

So far this one works perfectly without any glitches on MBP, or the problems I’ve already mentioned with other brands. I won’t name them here, because I don’t want a hex put on me!

The only thing that’s missing is the ability to charge my iPad via one of the USB ports. Hence, 1 star less from awesome.

Does what it says on the tin. Bit of overkill for what I wanted, but I wanted to pay a bit more for something that was hopefully more robust than its predecessor.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersBought this to go with my M2 MacBook Air, which only has 2 USB-C ports on the left hand side.

Comes with a nice small grey carrying case which is a nice touch.

    This dongle/adapter has:
    1x HDMI
    1x USB-C (for data only)
    1x USB-C (for power only)
    2x USB-A
    1x SD card port
    1x Micro SD card port

This device is worth every penny. It works with all my peripherals. As a semi professional photographer, this dongle is quite welcome in order to deal with transferring files from camera to hard drives and SSDs.

To truly test it, I pushed it to its limit.

I connected an HDMI cable to connect it to my external display, used the USB-C power port to charge the laptop (yes, the 2022 M2 Air can charge via USB-C as well as MagSafe), connected one memory stick and my hard drive to the USB-A ports, another memory stick to the USB-C data port, and both an SD card and Micro SD card into their respective ports.

They worked fine. No hiccups, no stuttering. It just works.

In my opinion, this is essential for 2022 M2 Air owners, given the limited port selection built into the body. I got this on sale but I still would’ve bought it due to its sheer versatility.

To sum it up: this works and works well. If you have limited ports on your computer or iPad, buy it. Don’t even hesitate.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI really like the Anker brand and have bought many of their products, from cables; various chargers; soundcore Liberty Pro, and many other headphones bought as gifts etc.

Quality products from a brand I trust.

I am using this to connect my 13″ Mac Book Air (2022 – M2) to my very old. 2006 Apple Cinema display. That already has an apple adapter from DVI to HDMI.

I use one of the USB outputs to my (Anker AH232 USB 3.0 Aluminum 13-Port Hub + 5V 2.1A Smart Charging Port with 12V 5A Power Adapter ) hub.

The USB-C output to an SanDisk Extreme 500GB Portable NVMe SSD, USB-C, up to 1050MB/s Read and 1000MB/s Write Speed.

Have tested the power pass through charging.
Have tested the SD Card reader.

I can report that it all works well, with no issues.

The Anker USB-C hub is light weight, but feels like it is a sturdy quality product and comes with a nice pouch.

Just compare the price of this anker 7-1 hub to a similar 3-1 apple product and you know you are getting good value.

For me, this suited my needs perfectly. I would highly recommend.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThis is mostly a good product. It is compact and sleek and definitely fulfils Anker’s standard product profile which is well built and functional.

It does not come with a charger so you will need to provide your own USB-C charger (I use a 45W Lenovo charger from a laptop which is just enough) to enable pass through charging of your laptop. Charging is not offered via any of the ports (except the laptop USB-C connection therefore it cannot be used to charge devices. The speed of the connections seems acceptable (not used for any significant data transfers).

Overall a decent product, however it is not a replacement for a proper desktop docking station.

The problem with my Macbook 13 pro, is that it does not have the connection capabilty of old. It only has USB C sockets only (what were APPLE assuming when they brought this Macbook Pro to market?)

I needed to be able to connect my Kobo and Kindle e-readers to the Mac, as well as other third party hardware. Simple adapters and dongle converter did not make for a reliable connection, especially with my older Kobo Touch. Being somewhat frustrated, I thought I could try this recomended Anker hub with Power Through. Strainght out of the pack it did what I needed it to do.

I am not sure about longivity of quality just yet as I have only had it a week but so far it is doing what I need it to do and far cheaper than any Apple Hub!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI bought this mini dock to replace a cheaper generic effort, which worked 95% of the time but would occasionally flake out and rapidly connect and disconnect.

Straight out of the box it’s clear this is a higher quality product as I’ve come to expect of Anker – the materials feel premium and it has the reassuring weight in the hand of something packed with technology (although still not heavy!)

I had a problem at first with getting my monitor to display at full resolution – Windows had picked it up as a generic 640 x 480 panel – which was rather disappointing as I had no such issue with the cheap generic dock. However, I fixed this by installing a small program called CRU (Custom Resolution Utility) to add an entry for 1920×1080 resolution for the generic panel, and after a Windows restart the screen worked without issue. As I said, a little disappointing, but I’m going to give Anker the benefit of the doubt and say the problem is likely due to my rather old and dodgy no-name brand monitor – I expect something more modern from Dell or HP or the like would work without a hitch. Assuming it continues to work as it has, I think it’s been a worthwhile swap for me.

There are more fully featured docks available at this price point from the generic brands (at 35 you can just about find docks with ethernet ports and connectivity for a second screen if you look hard!) but it’s always a bit of a gamble whether they’ll work reliably – take my advice and stick with a reputable brand like Anker for your docking needs and you won’t go wrong.

I used this when I need to take my laptop elsewhere for work and still connect all the peripherals (headset, mouse, monitor, separate keyboard).
I noticed that the pass-through power delivery might not be 100% what is coming in as I had an alert on my laptop with it, but it did not affect performance or charging. It Worked just as promised.
Another trusted product from Anker. I tend to stick with their tech as I find them reliable.

After using my MacBook as a laptop for about a year now I decided it was time to get a desktop computer but having just bought my Mac last year I wanted to find a way to transform it into a desktop computer so I stumbled across this and my word it’s great.

I plugged the charger into the PD port and HDMI into a monitor. Then a usb mouse and keyboard and turned it all on and I was shocked that it actually worked.

Only downside is that it doesn’t have a Ethernet port so I bought a usb c to Ethernet for around 4 and plugged that into the C port on it and again that worked grea

This is night and day improvement from my previous moshi type-c hub (which is more expensive!). I like the quality plastic, after some use of power-delivery, it warms up a little, and feels like a black pebble you pick up on the King Edward’s Bay, Tynemouth, when the sun completely sets on one summer afternoon. It doesn’t need a seperate power supply for that and it just works. I’ve also had a mouse plugged in at the same time and it was all seamless. A bit pricey for what it is but Anker stuff has always done the job for me with no issues, so fingers crossed its the same here. Would recommend no problem

Very well packaged and fastly delivered. Not too big with a reasonable amount of weight. Gets a little warm but nothing too annoying. My main issue is that it has a small white led that lights when plugged into laptop. This stays on even when the laptop is off, this means that if I leave the hub plugged in it drains the battery on my laptop. This is quite annoying. I could unplug the hub but this is inconvenient. I could also leave the power adapter attached but this is not good for battery health. It might be nice if there was an off switch or similar.

Bought a 2021 16″ M1Pro MacBook Pro in December and got this to go with it
It’s the abosolutely perfect dongle for that MacBook
The MacBook itself has ALMOST every port you could need – with HDMI back, but this dongle is the perfect add on

I use 2 HDMI screens on my desk so this helps connect that
It allows me to continue using USB-A accessories as/when needed, and because the MacBook is charged with MagSafe again, using this dongle now doesn’t even remove a USB-C/Thunderbolt port either as it has one in-built

Is easy to carry around but would be a bit easier if the connector cable could be wound in, disconnected, or was just a bit longer to make it easy to wrap around the body of the dongle
The cable is very short and thick meaning it just sticks out of the little carry bag that came with it and is possibly primed to be damaged at some point in the future

This is a really good product, the build quality feels great and it has a good range of ports available. Everything worked well. The only problem I had was that my laptop (and the problem was my laptop not this device) turned off the HDMI port built in when using the HDMI in this, which meant this wasn’t suitable for me. Originally product did not pass through charge for Samsung Tab S7+. Customer service helped with toubleshooting and solving the problem by advising to use an adaptor that could power the Hub as well as the tablet. Overall reliable hub with excellent functionality (i.e. extra usb c data port which is uncommon). Very well designed and portable.

The only deal breaker for me was the mandatory 15 watt power draw- this meant that my included MacBook air (30w) charger would not charge the laptop via this hub. I double checked this with a 60w charger and the received wattage was 45w. For comparison a similarly spec’d Sabrent hub uses just 5w.

A number of other reviews mention this but thought it was worth re-iterating the need for an extra, higher wattage charger if you use passthrough power and a comparison to a similar hub.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI really like this product. The over all quality feels and looks great.
The listing states that it doesn’t work with the ipad Pro but it does work.
The hub requires around 15 watts of power (=5 volts at 3 amps) so if you have a regular phone charger then it will not pass power through to the iPad (as the hub is using it all). If you plug in a higher output charger, e.g. 60 watts then the iPad will fast charge and the hub will work.
Interestingly though, the SD card reader functions without power being plugged into the hub (which is a pleasant surprise).
    I’ve tested
    – the USB A port with a wireless mouse adapter (worked fine)
    – HDMI port outputting to a TV (worked fine)
    – SD card slot with an SD card (worked fine)

I haven’t tested the microsd slot or the data usbc port but I have no reason to suspect they will not work.
This thing makes using the iPad so much easier for computer things (e.g. importing photos of a camera SD card slot or quickly outputting to a TV)

    100% recommend this product!

    Works well with iPad Pro

Anker always seems a decent brand, other items I have from them have been reliable and good quality. This is the same, I am using it on my M1 Air and it does what it says it does. Small, light and portable, the connections are all tight and reliable. It gets warm to the touch, but not hot. The power tell-tale is subdued and does not glare. I didn’t realise the 15″ MacBook Pros used over 60w to charge until after purchasing my previous adapter. My MacBook would loose charge under heavy use even when plugged in. Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersMy main objective when I purchased this USB hub was to replace a laptop docking station.
I bought Anker because I have used the brand before and the devices are always of a good quality.

    Pros:
    – much smaller footprint
    – fully functional
    – good value for money

    Cons:
    – The Hub failed within weeks of arriving, but it was replaced without any fuss and replacement unit is working perfectly. One of the reasons to buy good brands.

    Bear in mind:
    – As the Hub takes 20W of power, the power supply that works on your laptop, may not work if plugged through the hub. The 65W original lenovo power brick is enough to power a thinkpad laptop through the hub. However, the PowerAtom III only delivers 45W on PD, so you cannot use the hub to charge.

    What would I improve:
    – The USB-C cable coming out is a bit short for my taste. I’d prefer if the hub came with a PD-out port on the hub and a lead you could plug in. This would allow you to replace it with a different length if preferred.
    – Who needs the card readers? All USB hubs in the market have card readers but very few people need them. It would make more sense to have an additional USB port instead.
    – I seem to struggle to find a power supply, 100W, with USB-C output that is reasonably compact and priced. I’d love to see something like the PowerAtom III on a 100W version.

    Conclusion:
I can now have all the cables nicely tucked away with a single lead out of the dock into the USB-C port in the laptop and I am very happy

Has been really useful for working from home – having a hub for mouse, keyboard, monitor and power delivery makes it easier to unplug my laptop if I need to step into another room for a meeting. I haven’t noticed the hub heating up during power delivery unlike some of the user reviews mentioned.

The colour of the hub blends nicely with the colour of my computer and monitor. I have a 2018 Mac Mini which came with 4 Thunderbolt ports (too much!), since not many of my legacy accessories use USB 3 or USB C, the Anker hub is just perfect: it offers generous USB C and USB 3 ports as well as both SD and mocroSD ports. I am extremely satisfied with my Ankernhib hence it gets maximum stars. It is a recommended buy.

Even if Thunderbolt is fast, it is not widely adopted in accessories which are more commonly auasB

Gets a bit hot sometimes, but overall a great useful little device to have on you if you own a macbook and are a creator of anything. Just keep it mind its footprint is like a mobile phone. It’s as heavy as well, so you’ll need to give it some special room everywhere.

As I have said many times before ANKER is one of my favourite electronics companies.
This works with both my samsung tablet and my laptop. I have used it for all sorts of things in the last week or so and really couldent be any happier. Great for my photography on the go. Also with a bit of hassle the port will work flawlessly with a MIDI keyboard using a the desktop app on a tablet.
    Would buy again if needed.

I bought this to replace an older one that kept dropping out on HDMI and my USB headset. This one works perfectly and does not require external power. It has a long enough cable so that it sits on my desk whilst the laptop is on a stand so it is not pulling at the USB C port on my laptop. I haven’t tried all of the ports, but so far this is exactly what I needed from a brand that I trus

Really nice iPad accessory. Extended my screen to a different monitor well which is why I bought it primarily. Haven’t used the other functions yet.
Comes with a nice storage pouch.
Downside is that it doesn’t extend sky go or BT apps but that’s not the extenders fault that’s because the apps dont allow it which is a shame.

I upgraded to this Anker USB-C hub from an older offering by Lenovo (the best I could find at the time). The Anker is immeasurably better. The hub has a nice weight, which feels sturdy and premium rather than heavy.

My typical usage has my 85W MBP charger plugged in the hub, and an external monitor connected via the HDMI. It stays cool under this load.

There isn’t too much to say about this hub.It is another excellent product from Anker,it is well made, is a nice compact size and does everything that it is designed to do.May be slightly more expensive than other models but is worth the extra in order to get the Anker reliability.

Unit developed a fault whereby it was no longer powering devices attached to it. After a couple of emails to Anker support they agreed to send me a new one. I had a replacement within three days of raising the issue. Excellent after-sales support. It’s a hidden (to many) benefit of buying Anker.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI use this regularly with two Dell laptops (a work one and a personal one, Inspiron 7373 and Latitude 3400). The power delivery is through an old Mac Book Pro 85 Watt charger which is plugged into an Elecjet USB-C adapter (out comes 65 Watts). So 65 Watts goes into the Anker hub which then delivers about 40 Watts. I don’t yet know what is being drawn from the socket, but power is delivered successfully to both Dell laptop with a BIOS that a 30 Watt charger is connected and to use a 65 Watt charger. However, both laptops can run at full power (using Windows, apparently not Ubuntu) using all cores and by drawing only from the Anker whilst charging the batter. So now my my desk is very clean and I am very happy.

his is about 10 more than the no brand adaptors but 30 less than the apple one. It has more connectivity (SD, micro SD, USB, HDMI and UBB C) so better than the apple alternative. Basically for a MBP it has all the connectivity you need and still only uses 1 USB C port.

Being an Anker product it’s really well made, and although I’ve not had to use it, one of the reasons I chose Anker was that they have proper customers service if you ever have an issue

Golden Review Award: 11 From Our UsersThe build quality of this is overall very good although the PD connector is ever so slightly misaligned so that inserting a cable is sometimes tricky and requires holding at a slight angle. Otherwise build quality seems excellent.

*[EDIT] I’ve now tried this with a 30w/18w USB-C Anker 12v car charger and it passes charge power through to the iPad as expected. The previous charger I tried was an Anker 18w USB-C 12v car charger but for whatever reason it didn’t pass power through.

I’ve tested the SD card reader, the micro SD card reader, the USB A/3 ports (with an external USB-3 spinning hard drive) and the USB-C data ports, all work just fine now. I can get iPad audio out through the USB-C port whilst simultaneously charging the iPad through the PD port. Big thumbs up!!!

I’d say the only drawback is the cable is quite short and not swappable.

*[previous review] The reason for 4 stars*[now 5 stars!] is that this does not pass power through to my iPad Pro 11″ as I’d hoped, so you can’t use the hub and charge the iPad at the same time. On first connecting the charging spund emits abs the battery icon goes green but then a second layer it goes off. I tried with two different power sources (one standard 2.4a USB-A car charger, and one anker PD car charger delivering up to 9v/2a) to rule that out but no luck. It’s possible it will work on a mains charger but I haven’t tried that yet.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersI bought this because i bought many cables from anker before and i never had any problems with anker quality
This hub seemed to be of high quality materials but once i plugged it into my ipad and put a thumb drive in it it didn’t work
Ill contact customer support and see what will happen
    Edit
Anker contacted me and offered a full refund
They have such a high quality customer service
