If you had an original Atari system in the ’80s or just like retro games, this is an excellent choice. Obviously the graphics are basic but that’s what you’d expect and in many cases I prefer these to modern games. Even something like the very simple Hangman is rather addictive!
It plugs straight into any TV with an HDMI port (I’ve tried it on several) so set up is very easy and the menu can be navigated with a joystick. These can be a little stiff and it’s hard to be accurate on games like Breakout but as I recall the original version could also be tricky, even with paddles. (I would welcome the opportunity to buy an inexpensive, compatible paddle.) Some models include wireless joysticks but this version is wired, which I always prefer.
Some pictures show Frogger as an included game but on this version it is definitely not. The pictured Pitfall is, though and remains excellent. It’s worth noting that the basic nature of many of these games can actually make them harder than modern favourites and this model also includes an SD card slot so any missing games can be easily downloaded and added later although it will probably require a firmware update first. I’ve not tried yet but have looked at the procedure and it doesn’t seem too daunting.
The console itself is disarmingly light and plasticky and much smaller than the original but it does the job. Occasionally it freezes while going through the menu selection but that’s easily solved with the classic ‘switch it off and on again’ fix and I’ve never known it to freeze during gameplay.
Over all, great fun for anyone who enjoys retro games or perhaps doesn’t have the many hours needed to wade through multiple levels of a modern RPG.
As a gift it was liked but is not used much as the games are very basic and some of this families favourite retro games are not included.
Habe das Gert als Geburtstagsgeschenk fr einen jung gebliebenen gekauft und er war begeistert. Alle bekannten Spiele vorhanden und die funktion war 1A.
Allerdings kein EuroStecker dabei! Entweder per USB oder Adapter selber anschlieen. Auspacken und einschalten ist so leider nicht mglich aber schnell lsbar.
Super viele Spiele dabei da htte man damals ne ganze Menge fr ausgeben mssen.
fr retro Fans ei mu
Fantastic just how i remembered it when I was a child. Its like going back in time
We bought a cheaper version first which we had to send back, this one is fantastic, brilliant picture
Firstly it’s not an original Atari in look or feel. It’s a mini version that’s does a decent job of replicating the experience to a decent degree.
The game selection wasn’t great, but I wanted Combat and Space Invaders. Enjoyed them both. The sound and graphics are true to the originals. Even if you don’t get all the game levels to play around with it still sparks some long forgotten memories.
The loss of a star is due to the controllers being too loose. The original Atari has almost solid sticks that allowed small movements quickly on screen. These ones are like the old ones when they broke with the movement. They work. They are okay but don’t expect the control you had from original. That aside all was good. Easy to move round the menus etc.
Overall a good experience. I think I’ll see how to download some Atari ROMs to a SD card and expand the game experience.
Buy it. You won’t regret i
