What a brilliant idea – keep the dog out of the bathroom but let the cat in. That stops the dog getting at the cat food, and litter tray!

Well constructed gate. Good height. Very secure when locked & when secured in the door frame correctly. My gate is used to stop the dog pinching the cat food & it does the job perfectly.

This gate is very good. We have got a young GSD and we’re finding that he was keen to chase our cats up the stairs! It has solved the problem very well and blends in well with the hall decor . The cats use the cat flap to go up and down the stairs quite happily and we are easily able to open the gate to do so ourselves. It is a good height so our large agile dog is not able to jump over it. Highly recommended.

Arrived in less than 24hrs and not prime delivery.
Bought to stop my puppy from going upstairs and I’ve installed it across the hall which also stops him from getting out of the front door. It’s easy to install by one person and I’m not very tall or strong.
It’s easy to open and close, my son has learning disabilities and he can do it.
I have 2 slight problems. One my cats are a bit dumb and haven’t figured out the cat flap and 2 one of my cats can jump over it which I was hoping not so I could keep them in one area of the house at night, but neither are issues with the gate. It looks nice and does the main job of keeping my puppy safe.
I did contact safetots as I thought they had sent the wrong size. They responded immediately and on opening the box the extension piece was inside.
Excellent customer service and excellent product.

Product fairly easy to install like standard stair gates. However the cat flap feature (the main reason I bought this product) is pretty useless. It’s tiny – even my small cat struggles to get though, it can easily be knocked into a locked position by the dog accidentally (probably- but you never know if it’s an accident or not) and it’s really stiff, so the cat can’t really push through it even though she’s very used to flaps. The flap should be removable. It isn’t, so I’ve had to tape it open, which doesn’t look great.
The other main flaw is that the pressure fit grip isn’t very strong. One of my dogs (Labrador) has learned that all she needs to do is push against the gate for it to basically be pushed out of place and out of the door frame and she can easily then squeeze though, which obviously defeats the point of the gate in the first place.
It is decent quality and feels sturdy apart from the grip of the pressure fit attachments.

Had looked at this previously but went on to buy a cheaper version from else where until the cat flap was required. I’m glad I waited as firstly the price went down then I don’t think it is worth the original price advertised. Had I not had the other one I would have thought this was better but it’s not as tall and doesn’t feel as strong. The locking system is a little more complicated than it needs to be which makes it frustrating especially at night when you’re half asleep. It doesn’t feel as sturdy as it should for the price either, there is some welding that I’m not sure will hold up if my 35kg dog jumps up against it too often. The catflap is good but I assumed it would be metal (I don’t know why) it’s plastic and also feels a bit flimsy. I’ve tied it up while the cats get used to it and have noticed they have to dip a little to get through. They’re domestic shorthair rescues so anything bigger would struggle I think.
Overall it is doing what I wanted so far, is a barrier between dog and the cats safe space but it is a little disappointing for the price. I prefer the height of the other one I bought, this feels only a bit taller than a baby gate and it doesn’t feel as well made. It’s ok but if you don’t *need* a catflap I would look elsewhere.

Used two in doorways and needed the integral cat flap to keep animals and their food apart.
Would have preferred a cat flap that swung to and fro from top hinges rather then a door as it doesn’t swing closed which is a bit of a leg basher, nice that it can be locked I suppose

  16. CooperLovelace says:

Wouldn’t install without the screws though. Rabbits can use the flap easily enough. The lock on the flap very useful for times they can’t be in the living room. When unlocked it means they can escape the baby if he’s annoying them too much.

This is probably the best gate we have ever bought. We have 3 dogs and 2 cats and use it on the living room door way, which is great because it stops the dogs going upstairs but the cats can still come down and explore. They learnt very quickly how to go through the flap. Would highly recommend this gate.

Love these gates so much that we ordered 3. Our GSD is still very young and bouncy plus has a super high prey drive. We’ve managed to zone off all areas down to keep the children safe from all the bouncy puppyness and also the cats are able to safely get around the house (quickly!!).
I love the fact you can lock the cat flap too because until our German shepherd was 5 months old she could still wriggle through the gap so worth noting if you have a smaller breed.

Easy to fit – just four screws, one in each cup. Solid and safe. Wanted to have at least one room solely for the cat when we introduced a 30kg (66lb) black lab to our home. Took aroundv30 mins to unpack and fit using the instructions. Brilliant bit of kit.

Bought this to allow me to keep my bedroom door open, especially in the hot weather, and still let my cat come and go from the room without our dogs getting in. It took a while for her to get used to going through the cat flap but shes a pro now. Only issue is that when you open the locking mechanism, which you can do one handed, it doesn’t always automatically lock back down when you release it to close. This may just be on my one and its easily fixed by just pushing the overlapping join down. Its very solid, easy to install and higher than a normal child gate so no chance of our German shepherd hopping over.

Certainly very happy with it, and it is certainly sturdy with excellent fitting. Very easy to fit.

I would pay a bit more if it was easier to take in and out of the door (i.e. know there is the door…) but for what we are looking for it would be good to remove completely and then put back in the same place

    Would recommend purchase

This is a very solid gate and much taller than most, which is an advantage with a larger dog. If you have a bannister, check it will fit for the full height – we use it in a doorway (which is fine) but it couldn’t be used on our stairs.

In the cat flap gate range it’s better than others I’ve tried but use one without a cat flap if you don’t need that option as you’ll get a far better choice.

Beware – it looks faulty before fitting and there is only a very small note inside the packaging to let you know this is part of the design which we missed entirely at first.

my cats hated the black door – refusing to use it because they couldn’t see through. We have had to tape the flap open, which isn’t ideal. (The cats use other cat flaps every day with no trouble).

    The lock is fiddly.

The door only opens one way which isn’t ideal.

Good quality gate, fits well without drilling, we used Wall Nanny from Amazon to help with the sturdiness without damaging the walls. Keeps the cats safely away from the occasional visit of son’s boisterous big puppy. We will keep it up all the time so that the cats remember how to use the cat flap.

I previously bought another pet gate, but my Staffordshire got through the cat door! It rendered the gate, useless!
This flap is smaller than the pet door, on the previous one, but it’s about the same size as a back door cat flap, so this one is fine.
The best thing is that the dog can not get through the flap, and can no longer escape to steal the cats food!
I can feel assured that if I go upstairs, for a long time, the dog can not get out, and it’s made well, so she can’t knock it off the door frame, either!
The latch is so much easier to use than other gates. Although it does get stuck, if you click it too hard, and needs to be re-clicked, to come unstuck.
That might be my heavy handedness, though!
It doesn’t stop it from working, so it’s not a problem.
I’ve used a shoe lace, to hold the flap permanently open, as my cat, either didn’t like it not being see through or, didn’t realise it was a flap?

Good sturdy product. My cat eventually got how to use it. I still don’t think he believes the dog won’t be able to get through it after him! I think the flap would be better in a clear material like the one he uses in the door. I think he likes to be able to see through it before going through.

Great stair/door gate. We bought this so the cats had some safe space from the puppy, and it works great although the cat flap is pretty large so even a medium dog can crawl through. We taped a piece of plastic to the cat flap space to make it smaller so puppy can’t get through and that works fine. Good height, and v easy to fit. Great solution to give cats space from a dog (or a baby/kid if you’re into that kind of thing).

Love these gates they are so easy to use. We had one for our border collie and it was out of stock when we want another. The other was so bad compared to the easy use of this one , we purchased this when it came in stock to replace the new one!
One warning we have cats and 2 border puppies.our female border puppy can fit through the cat flap bit at 6 months! so used the clips on it to shut for now.just incase anyone is thinking for smaller dogs.our older male border never even tried it but our girl can put her legs through and then worm through!. That said you can open one handed if needed and we love the gates.

    easy to use.

This is actually a very good gate. Much better than others I have tried. I particularly like the fact that you can fix the cups for the feet in place. So even if you have to take the gate down You are guaranteed that it goes in exactly the same spot again. Solid too. I have a Caucasian Shepard (look it up) and if he jumps up and stands against it there is zero movement from the gate. If I had any gripes at all? The lock mechanism can be a little fiddly at times. You just need to make sure it’s up before you close the gate. There is a very small chance that if you were to swing it closed hard in a hurry when the latch is down it may break.
All round a highly recommended buy. Looks great. Does it’s job. Really strong.
Even the cats have a flap to use. Not that they are ever happy. They are cats.

If you ordered a bigger size, the extra piece is in the box with the smaller size written on the box. This caused confusion initially, I thought we had received the wrong product.
    Exactly what we needed.
Not easy to install for one person, as the wall caps kept falling off while I tried to position it. But in the end it’s a great product and it works well.

The cat flap is great and of perfect size even for my half maine coon. The only small disadvantage is that it is a blind catflap and some cats might refuse to use it because of it. It can be removed if needed just by unscrewing it, and the hole is small enough to not let a puppy come through (except if your puppy is cat sized haha). The catflap is lockable in case of need (for instance if you cannot supervise interactions with you dog).

The opening and locking mechanism can be a bit tricky to get too (a few friends of mine say this one is “name of the friend”-proofed, but the instructions are quite clear in the manual and it is easily done with one hand. this gate can open in both direction or only one depending on your needs!

Pressure wall mounted, which avoids your landlord to get mad at you for screwing in the walls !

We are happy with this gate. One piece of information very important to know is not to unlock the gate before assembling. We thought something was wrong and the gate would not close as appeared that it did not fit, but it’s not meant to work until assembly is completed. There is in fact a giant sticker on the outside of the box saying that this isn’t a design flaw, but we did not see the message until after trying to work this out ourselves! If you are bad at assembling things, its also very helpful to look at the outside of the box as it clearly shows a completed gate.

Very well made and easy to fit to the doorway, though it was nearly too big for mine so be careful if you have narrow doors (I checked mine before ordered) and be aware you may need to fit it such that the door cannot close with the gate in.

I was concerned the cat flap might be a little small for my ‘powerfully built’ feline but it was more than sufficient in size. My cat learned how to use the flap within a couple of minutes; I kept putting cat treats on the other side of the gate, and, after starting by holding it open for him, gradually opened the cat flap for him less and less until he had to do it entirely himself.

We bought this product as we took in a second cat, in order for 2 cats to get to know each other we gave the new cat a room of his own and used the gate as a barrier, however on first assembly and fit the new cat jumped straight over the top. So what to do now? Hmmm . Luckily for us the box it arrived in is exactly the width of the door frame where the gate is installed. So the box became a height extension for the gate and did the trick, as it was a nice snug fit he was unable to push it off and so resorted to using the cat flap provided. I think this is a great product but perhaps some thought should go into the height as cats can jump very high and as ours is only one year old so has a great spring. Overall I would recommend this product as it has helped immensely in the 2 cats overcoming the fears of each other and they are now friends.

This dog gate is great, very sturdy and easy to open and close, BUT the cat flap is dangerous because it is too low. The cat flap should be at least 10″ off the floor. The first night it was installed my new rescue dog (who likes looking out of my back door cat flap) stuck her head through the gate cat flap and the flap dropped on to her neck and she tried to escape, pulling back and brought the whole gate down as it was not screwed but stuck. Luckily she wasn’t hurt as the gate which is heavy, fell on top of her. If the cat flap was installed higher up a dog could put its head in and the flap would be higher, so they wouldn’t get trapped at their neck, getting their head stuck. I will now have to keep the cat flap locked, which is in my bedroom door, so that the dog can’t try again to get into the bedroom with me. Needless to say it is now screwed, but that doesn’t stop her getting trapped by the closing of the flap onto the back of her neck! As the cat always sleeps with me, and the gate is the extra tall one, I have had to tie an old jumper on the top of the gate so that she has a grip to be able to jump onto it and over. All unnecessary if it had been better researched.

Good product, sturdy, good fit. The lock mechanism took a wee bit of getting used to but is fine now. I would mention that our rather broad cockerpoo-sized dog did manage to get through the cat flap, I have no idea how! Following a tip from another reviewer, I put a large jubilee clip in the hole, fastened with zip ties, which makes the hole round instead of square and slightly smaller. That worked!

Golden Review Award: 16 From Our UsersThe barrier was easy and quick to install. I followed the instructions and used a spirit level to ensure it was straight and level. I used the sticky pads (there are also small screws which could be used instead). All done in less than 10 minutes.

The 104cm extra tall gate is perfect for stopping even a large dog (what our pup will become) from jumping over while allowing our cats freedom of movement. They can go upstairs for peace and quiet whenever they want. The cat flap can be locked shut or left to swing free.

The double locking system handle doesn’t feel that intuitive and will take some familiarisation but it is effective for ensuring that only those with opposable thumbs and fingers can open and close the gate! To both close and open the gate requires the bottom and top of the handle to be pushed and pinched together. I would have preferred a handle that could be shut by just pushing the gate to, but this handle does mean that the gate needs to be shut with more care which is safer.

The gap for the gate to go into at the bottom of our stairs was 83cm at the top and 79cm at the bottom and it was easy to adjust the two top and two bottom pieces to fit the gap exactly. If you have a wider gap then there are multiple options to extend the gate width up to 148cm.

The puppy is less impressed but the cats are pleased to have their own space, off limits from the pup!

    Easy to install

It’s a great concept. My cats no longer need to jump over the dog gate, I cut the flap off as it was heavy duty & I didn’t think they would use it. Fitting it was a nightmare, I was probably doing something wrong, but the twirly things are a complete nightmare – Anyone else had problems?
It arrived quickly & I am very pleased with it.
I guess it says it’s not suitable as a child gate as said child may get their head stuck in the cat gap. I was a bit worried my dogs may do that very thing, but so far so good. If one of the dogs does get his / her head stuck in the cat gap & pulls it off the door frame I will not be putting the gate back up, that was an experience I do not wish to re-live, ever!

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersGood quality gate. works for our intended purpose (keep new dog separate from cat, cat can come and go). We had to teach the cat to use the flap but now she uses it fine. I think the flap is quite small but I guess if you have a small dog it could fit through (though it has to accommodate various sizes of cat so I would have thought it was obvious a small dog could fit through – but from other reviews it seems some people think there’s a magical way to stop dogs the same size as cats?). We’ve been using it for 3 months now and the dog hasn’t tried to jump over (and believe me he could if he wanted to!) as he knows that gate is his barrier. If you have small doorways, it might be a bit large. It only just fits between our doorframe (we didn’t use any of the tightening fixtures we just slid it into the doorway using the sticky bits, but it does the job.

Golden Review Award: 11 From Our UsersWe use this to keep my son out of the kitchen (I know you’re not supposed to use it with kids, but so far we have had no issues at all). This gate has been great, because it has stopped one of our cats getting stressed out at the pinch point in our house. The old one caused him to get so stressed (he wouldn’t jump over it) he developed a urinary tract blockage and nearly died. This has definitely been a success and has helped ensure this doesn’t happen again.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersPerfect for the bottom of our stairs. The puppy can’t get through and the cat can. Keeps the peace in our house and means the dog can’t come upstairs. This is great for us as I can’t put anything down downstairs without it being in pups mouth within next ten seconds. So upstairs is sanctuary for cat and somewhere I can put things down they won’t be chewed.

Sturdy, and string and so far very pleased.

Gave four stars as it’s a bit awkward stepping over pole on step but I guess that has to be there for it to be secure just makes it a little awkward, my mother in law has tripped on this part of it.

This has massively simplified the process of acquainting our cats with our new dog. Great stuff.

It is worth noting however that after a couple of days I attempted to move this to another door frame to find it had bent quite a bit and was a bit more difficult to fit the second time.

Bought to help our older cat who is starting to suffer from arthritis. Does what it’s supposed to do, creating a room for the cat to get to without the dogs…sort of! However if you have a small dog, like we do, be prepared for it to be able to get through the cat flap! We have a small shih tzu and she’s found out she can fit through quite easily! The gate is good quality just wish the flap was a little smaller to deter the dog!

Golden Review Award: 30 From Our UsersWell made white coated steel pet gate that stands 41″ tall and acts as a barrier at our loft door to keep the dogs out, while still allowing the cats to access ‘their’ territory via the flap at the base of the gate. I have actually removed the plastic flap and just left the hole open, and it comfortably accommodates our big hefty tom with no problem at all.
The gate is very easy to fit, with supplied wall cups, and the tension bolts are adjusted by turning a wheel on the bolt rather than with a spanner. There is a plastic block at the base of the gate that can be unscrewed and reversed depending on which way you want it to swing open, or else you can leave it off and it will open both ways. The lock is easy to operate, with a thumb safety catch and a pull-up handle.
Very pleased with this and would recommend.

Nice gate, easy to assemble as not on stairs and did not need to drill holes for cups however as other comments have mentioned it is not very sturdy when fixed, a heavy dog leaning on it may push it down (I don’t know if it more sturdy using the cups). Other than that it is great and the cats use the flap first time they investigated.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI brought this product to confine one of my cats to a room, whilst recovering from injury where he was not allowed to go outside or excerice whilst bones heal. It was simple to put onto the living room door and although I had reservations that he may jump it, that has not been the case. In deed my other two cats who are extremely agile have never jumped it either.. It has proved to be invaluable for the last few weeks and even when it may not be needed for its original use I can see that I might use it to keep my felines out of the living room during the hunting season so that they don’t bring their presents indoors.. It had a small cat flap that is a bit flimsy but could be used to give a cat an escape route if you had a child in one room and wanted free access for your cat. Mine figured out how to use it within hours but I would not trust it to confine them when locked as it can easily be unlocked.. The spaces between the metal bars are too wide to keep a kitten confined to a room, but certaintly an adult cat or puppy/dog. It is very easy for a person to lock and unlock the gate from the top and has proved to be robust. Just make sure you always remember that there us a lip on the door frame and don’t trip up.. All together a very worthwhile investment, especially if you have other pets but need to confine one to a specific room, whilst allowing other pets to roam around and you keep an eye on the one that needs to be kept confined.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI bought this to keep both the dog and my baby out of the kitchen and away from the cat food. My cat has problems with his back legs and is unable to even jump up on the sofa, let alone a stair gate, so this provided an ideal solution. I was quite worried about buying this at first as it does state it is not suitable for child use. The danger, I believe, would come in a young baby trying to go through the cat flap. Thankfully, we’ve had this in use since my little one was 5 months old (she’s now 14 months) and she’s never shown any interest in trying to get through the cat flap (though she does immensely enjoy pushing the flap and watching it swing back and forth!). It’s sturdy and secure and much more convenient to open and close than a lot of stair gates I’ve used. A good product.

I bought this for a new cat and two resident GSD. It arrived in excellent time and there was no damage to the packaging. I found it easy to follow the instructions and it fits well inside a door frame. My dogs do not jump up but if they did it would need the the cups to be screwed to the wall. I can see that this would be more difficult to fix between walls due to the fact that the upper brackets are at the top of the cut out gate and it flexes slightly when the screws are tightened, but putting a bracket up on the wall would fix this. You can’t hang a door without a door frame! I didn’t buy any extensions. It is easy to open one handed using your thumb on the top button and squeeze with your fingers, then pull or push open as required. It might be difficult for the frail or elderly. We love the cat flap. Though the cat does “hit and run” through it!

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThis is a strong gate, best if secured using the cups which help stability. However, my airedale terrier worked out how to open the cat flap within a couple of days and was off into mischief in the rest of the house. the clips which keep it locked are rather flimsy. It is now secured with cable ties. I bought the extension as I have a wide opening and tho from different suppliers, they arrived together. I have only had for a week so far so whether it will take the weight of an older dog remains to be seen. Delivery was quick as I used Prime because i needed the gate fast.

Bettacare Pet Gate with Cat Flap Effective Barrier for Pets with Extensions…Its taller then a baby gate but works well. Only grumble I have is the cat flap is big or my 6 mth old puppy is to small as she fit through it so we cant have it unlocked and the cats have to jump over the gate and that’s not easy as the gate is tall, the puppy we have is a boarder/jack russel terrier weighing 5kg.

I was very pleased with the height of this gate as it did stop my kittens from jumping up and outside, however, there is one thing that I find quite baffling, if you look closely you will see that the gate portion is well suited to stopping your pet from slipping through the gate, but, if you look at either side of the actual gate you see that in fact the bars are further apart thus allowing your pet to get through, as I have cats they find this all too easy and so I have had to amend the sides with board to ensure that they cannot get out unless I wish them to.
If you have very large pets this is not an issue obviously, but small dogs or cats are very likely to find this easy to escape from unless you do your own diy to the side portions.

This gate is great. After using a standard gate which my puppy could jump over this one keeps her in the area where I want her.
I would’ve liked it to be slightly narrower so I could use it at the top of my stairs so is not in use for the purpose I intended. I can’t leave the cat slap open yet as the pup manages to fit through it. She is a Springer cross Collie and isn’t small at all.

We brought this gate because of the extra height for our new 1 year old german shepherd cross .As we needed to introduce her to our three cats and the fact that they might need an escape route the cat flap seemed like a great idea – cats have not used it once and jump over the top – well the idea was there. The gate was easy to fit and can be fitted without drilling or drilled to the wall – we chose not to drill, but be warned don’t lean on it if you do this and have it fitted against gloss paint as it will slip and you will fall unceremoniously into the room flat on you face!! The dog can jump high but has not tried to get over it and it has been a brilliant solution to keeping all the animals safe and also giving the new dog her own space – I would highly recomend this product.

If you are looking after dogs and want to restrict access, this is a must have. A child stair-gate is just too low for some dogs. I purchased this after looking after a husky, which jumped the normal gate as if it didn’t exist. The solution at the time was to get the spare baby gate and position upside down over the top of the other. A lot of smacked heads later, crawling through the bottom etc caused further investigation.

This gate adds 50% to a standard gate height. While it is not high enough to foil a determined Sheppard or large dog, it is perfectly adequate for most breeds or larger breeds that are not quite as excitable.

The cat flap seems an unnecessary addition to me, but does not degrade the product.

So in summary, I would have liked one to be higher really, but it will serve, was very good price, very good quality and easy to install.

We have wide doorways, so ordered this gate with an extension. It works perfectly for what we want and was easy to assemble and fit. The cat can get through to the laundry (and from there to the exterior cat flap in the back door) but the preschooler and toddler can’t get into the laundry/back stairs/cat food area.

My only quibble (and the reason I knocked off one star) is that the cat flap is set very low in the gate and our cat really has to slink down to get through. She can do it, but she’s not the most svelte or agile of cats at twelve years old and she much prefers to sit at the gate and yowl for someone to open it.

After searching the Nation Market for similar product a main door with a smaller one for my cat, I found the ONLY retailer here in Amazon who have it & can send it in my Country (Greece).

9 months now we have a kitten in our house and she had all the house for her own (beside us), before 3 weeks we adapt a female puppy from a shelter, and she are so cute.
Our kitty & Puppy are play together, but the puppy sometimes goes over exited and grasp our little kitty from the neck, ear, foot and she don’t like it very much, and our solution beside the dog trainer which we already have, are the this product.

I have order the main door with the two extension so I can split our house in two sections.

Our kitten has enter the small & exit door right away, from the 1st hour we have see our kitten more happy.
