Decrease Acidity

Plants can’t get the nutrients they need from soil that is too acid, and some materials such as aluminium can be at toxic levels in very acid soils. Hydrated lime also known as calcium hydroxide, should be applied by mixing thoroughly with the top-soil layers. It is important to not dig the soil why applying the product.

Prevents Diseases

Combine with copper sulfate (also available on Direct Chems) with calcium hydroxide to neutralize the acidity in the copper, it can also be effective against diseases caused by fungi -powdery mildew, downy mildew and by bacteria-fire blight, leaf spot.

Strength

Regular limestone can take several months to raise the pH level of a growing area. In contrast, hydrated lime is up to 1.5 times more effective at quickly raising the pH level than the commonly used agricultural limes.
