Coconut soil can be used pure for sowing and cultivation. To make your own substrates, you can mix up to 50% coconut soil with compost or classic potting soil. The coconut flower soil loosens the planting ball and does not harden due to constant watering.

i use these for gourmet mushrooms, after boiling water and then putting a block in the water and watch it come alive and expand roughly 14 to 18 cups depending on what other ingredients i use then wait for it too cool down and bag them up for inoculation of the mushroom cultures. i just harvested blue oysters today because of these… bit of butter salt and pepper with beans on toast XD… never been keen on the smell of coco coir but they do exactly what im after and thats wats important.
Last year I bought a single block to try and to say that all the seeds I planted loved it, was an understatement!
Buying in bulk was so much cheaper and so far I’ve been very happy with the product. I’ve already planted some early spring seeds and they have already started growing!
My big tip – use hot water to expand a brick, so much quicker. One brick and hit water fills a washing up bowl – great value for money!
Would definitely buy again!
Expands a lot!!!! Get so much out of just one block and foe such a great price!
Pamela (Pam) loves. the coco fibre she’s digging and rolling in it all day! it took me nearly 2 hours to prepare before leaving it to dry for 24 hours but other than that it’s great!! you get so much for your money and it’s very good quality i would 100% recommend and buy again!! if you buy coco fibre for the first time just know that some hamsters like to nibble at it first just to see what it is!
I have a large strawberry wall but it kept on drying out. After reading about coconut husk retaining water I thought I’d give it ago. I’ve mixed it with compost and replanted this year. I’ve probably had the best crop of strawberry I’ve every had. It’s been a very hot year and they haven’t burnt or die in the heat so it it must actually work. When you break the brick open and soak it it swells to a 4 to 5 times the size which when mixed provides a large source of hydrated soil mix. Will buy again next year to mix into my side beds.
It’s probably best if you use the whole block at once. I only have a fairly small London garden so didn’t need to — but found trying to cut it, even with a large and very sharp serrated-edged knife pretty hard work!
But it’s good stuff. I mix it with compost and Perlite, as my soil is heavy London clay.
was what i expected. good quality, good water retention. will buy agai
I liked the fact that it was good value for money compared to anywhere else. It really did expand a lot, especially when I poured warm water on it instead of cold. So 3 of these would definitely do a 3 ft vivarium when mixed with a bag of top soil. So yes, have already ordered again and delivery was pretty swift also. So it’s a yes from me.
Bit fiddly to use and can be difficult to assess the amount required for a specific job. Overall, worth a.
a bit of effort.
I love using these blocks. They are of high quality and retain moisture much better than most of the compost soil
You can get this in the poundshop but the quality is no where near as good. This is by far superior and works well. Had to use a bread knife to cut off what I needed. Rock hard.. Absorbs perfectly and has done the bonsai trees a whole lot of good.
Purchased to repot house plant. Tip break a 1/4 and soak in bowl. Obviousl depends on the size. Ones I did were 7 inches tall and same wide mixed with house plant soil.
Used these for reporting my houseplants, with a little extra grit for some and lots of grit for succulents. All look nice and healthy afterwards. Drains well but with sufficient water retention to stop droopibg.
Very good product “Coco block” after 20 min whole block expend to 3 buckets of peat, all fibres are very fine. Definitely good product and value for money.
This is great value for money as it expands when hydrated in water. I use it to aerate my plant soil mix.
Handy stuff and a great idea. I make up in smaller batches by cutting bits off at a time and to start with I really struggled using different types of knives to hack at the block – nightmare . Best to use a wood saw or hacksaw if you do want to cut the block into smaller chunks otherwise it’s a tough job.
It creates a surprising volume of good soil. Ideal for potting plants.
Using a saw helps to separate this product so it doesn’t all have to be used at once
Expands when water added and mixed well with other composts
Good size for the price, perfect for my hamsters cage
You really dont need a massive amount do a section at a time it may look like a small amount but trust me it not.
Would def order more, next time id order the bigger one so i no i wont have to for at least a year or more.
This item is great for fruit trees and vegetables plants and flowers.
Used to repot my Monstera, easy to use, although I needed to add slightly more water than the suggested 2-3 litres but it fluffed up quickly, and added to perlite, bark etc it made a great mix.
I was nervous after reading a review that was very negative. I have to say though that my little coco compost block arrived yesterday, I put a liner in my little bucket to save the mess if it didn’t work Then I added exactly 4 and a half pints of warm water from the hot tap with a little cold added. I can only lift a plastic 1 pint jug when full so that’s why I measure so precise. I poured water over the block, left alone to absorb while I watched Home and away on tv. Checked the bucket and stirred or rather jabbed at the compost and added another 4 oz of water as a tiny dry 2 inch disc had not absorbed the water. Left while I had a cuppa and then have tried to put the little video on here. No smell, no creepies and no bits of strange debris in this stuff. My plants will be having a party in it by tea time.
Nice and easy to use, I cut the block in half with a wood saw and you can see in the picture the volume half a block gives you.
Add warm water and fluff up with a hand fork, I mix it with compost and vermiculite for seeds, potting on and hanging baskets.
Good quality of soil and it produces a lot better then the disks I have used in the pas
Really does expand. Used this for my hamster and he wasn’t massively impressed by the soil, however we did put it to good use by putting it into some plants.
Fantastic product to use in reptile enclosure. Helps to regulate humidity. My tortoise enjoys it so much he will sleep outside his hide and just burrow right into the layer of coco coir. Definitely worth the money
It didnt go as far as I thought it would so will not be buying any more.
I would suggest leaving this product to air, use little water if using for a Royal as it holds humidity maybe too much otherwise but when you’ve got it handled it’s so soft, stunning and my royal instantly started burrowing and is very active so he approves
We use this for our leopard tortoises bedding mixed with top soil. Cant believe how much it swells with hot water lots left will last us a long time
Really versatile and easy to use, smells delicious too! I generally cut the block in quarters and then use it as I need it which is great for space saving. I leave it with the water overnight, crumble it in the morning then mix in whatever other substrate I want to use in conjunction. For a lot of my houseplants I use 60/70% of this then add a decent organic compost, perlite and a little vermiculite. It often then wants a bit more water prior to potting up. The plants thrive and the roots travel well in the airy mix. The blocks always break down easily and never have the junk that you find in most composts. Good value and enjoyable to use.
Better than expected. Really pleased with this. I’ve had a few bad experiences with house plant compost, including fungus and mealy bugs which have damaged and killed my plants. Decided to try this as an alternative, really easy to use and store, very lightweight. One block with 3 litres of water filled a washing up bowl with compost. My plants seem happy too. I mixed with some perlite for plants that need good drainage.
My experience with these compressed Coco blocks is superb they are very convenient and can be stored dry in a cupboard and use one at a time I just soak in water for a few minutes. It’s amazing how much substrate you get from one block. Highly recommended as a product and the seller is very reliable I would certainly recommend them
Love the compact size so easy to use expands as described with warm water nice and fluffy and plants are thriving, no more heavy compost with peat to try and slog around, less mess too when planting up, love it and highly recommend 🙂
Very easy to use, come compacted and volume up when adding warm water… so much much quantity… excellent quality as well… very good for cutting, seedling, indoor plants, I used for all my indoors plants. Delivery on time, good seller product as described and as ullustrated .
Great product and the repotted plants are already well settled (a week has passed) with some additional potting soil.
Great value for money and super easy to use and set up and my plants love the soil
A little goes a long way. I have a 4ft tank and this does 4 good clean outs . Its easy to use and smells like fresh moist soil
Great product – I have it as the only soil for my fruit shrubs, house plants and herbs and they’re all thriving in this coir. I also added clay pebbles to the mix and it’s made it even better!
I didn’t want it all to use at the same time, and so had to cut it which was quite hard. I basically used a hand saw.
However it does bulk out to a lot.
