It is very light,and easy to use.On my very first hunt, on Clevedon beach, I found a george V penny (see pic), it was about 7″ deep and the pin-point mode was spot on. I originaly intended to buy the MT XE as a starter detector, and upgrade to a more expensive one but I am so impressed with it that I dont think I will bother.

all in all an easy detector to use and it gives results

Ordered specially to try and locate gold signet ring lost on walk with dog – ring has sentimental value and is family heirloom.
Set off with machine and within 10 minutes found lost ring in undergrowth at side of path – it would not have been found otherwise.
Now loaned machine to friend to try and locate his wife’s lost wedding ring.
I bought this metal detector for my 10 year old son. He loves it. We are out every night over the local fields. Plenty of settings to play with and the target pinpoint option is a great addition. Would buy again and again from Drotekor 10/10
Really light weight and very easy to set up on the various modes. Seems very accurate at detecting what type of metal and what type of object and depth. Impressed and may well be buying another one now everyone has got detecting fever!

I purchased this metal detector in April. Great for adults I’ve been a couple of times and found some things like coins and other things. I would highly recommend to all. The PP is very good.
The metal detector is great for beginners (ADULTS) easy set up very comfortable LCD is brilliant . The only issue I have with this product is the ON OFF BUTTON dose not turn it off long press and the LCD screen gose blank so turns it’s self back so I disconnected the battery this I do every time I finish with it . The depth it shows is not 100% accurate but still OK it picks up hidden treasures . It’s accurate on what it picks up . I have tried this on sand up to now and picked up good . I cant work out how to balance it I hope there is away as for each different type of ground will need balancing. Overall its a good item for the price please don’t be put off by the low price I think personally the price is to low for the item very great false . I added the extra for the shovel and finders bag I was very very happy with the hand held shovel and was so surprised how it had its own little bag that I carry inside the finders bag when finished with the finders bag has a place on the outside for my pin pointer to slot into as dose the shovel have its own place when set up for use . The lcd dose have a back light that’s very useful. I did use a garret but I find this detector up there with the garret , hard to belive but it is and that’s my opinion. From now on I will buy from this company every time . One last thing it has lots of adjustments for small or tall adults. I hope I have given enough information to any one who is in two minds about buying on , I was my self but I am glad I took the jump and god one .
Arrived in good time, assembled in minutes. Tried it a few times, but still getting used to all the information the display is giving me. Hence not found anything of use yet and why 4 stars for Accuracy.
ested it on various items,copper,silver,iron etc,it performed perfectly,on a minus side the spade that came with the machine is to small for adult use,i’d suggest buying a different one

I bought this metal detector hoping it would be suitable for myself and my son to use……we were not disappointed. It was very easy to assemble, and can be quickly adjusted in length when we take turns using it. We thought it would be very basic given the price compared to other models, but how wrong we were! As soon as you switch it on you are good to go detecting. The screen tells you what type of metal it may be, and how deep you may need to dig. There are also lots of settings you can change depending on how you want to use it, which is handy when swapping from a field to the beach etc. and you can also set the detector to ignore some metals that are more likely to be rubbish. The pinpoint mode is brilliant for honing in on the exact spot to dig once youve found a target. The multi tool included is extremely sturdy when in use, and it also conveniently folds down and fits into a small pouch. I would absolutely recommend this detector, it makes a complete novice feel like an expe
Easy to use detector, I just need to learn to differentiate the sounds for each metal instead of looking at the display all the time. Pinpointer is an excellent help.
Ordered Sunday came next day, literally 10 minutes to set up, was impressed with how sturdy it was for the price great bargain. Tested in house picked up copper water pipes under floor, took it outside with random iron pieces a couple of gold rings to avoid it picking up pipe work in the house, picked up everything I tested it on confirmed material on the nifty screen no problems very impressed. Buried a few items around 5 inch under ground in garden the metal detector nailed it every time. Excellent product for the price. Update 6/4/2023. been using this metal detector for the last few months on the local beach works really well on dry and wet sand found lots of coins plus random other bits of metal really happy with it would recommend to anyone starting the hobby. I even went out and bought the mtrx version which has a deeper range while searching for objects really good quality for the price and works!

I bought the MT-XE metal detector a couple of weeks ago. It’s easy to assemble and lightweight which will be great when using for long periods of time. The functions are clear and straightforward to use which is helpful for a beginner. I have given it a few outings in our garden and it’s detected quite a few targets, but I’ve not being keen to dig up the lawn…. So at this stage, I’ve left the items in situ! Will be taking it with me for a beach visit soon. Here’s hoping….
Having watched so many positive reviews from pros on YouTube of this detector, I thought that this would be the best option for my budget.
The tool is very solid and digs well and the bag and earphones are good quality.
It was easy to put together and the user instructions are very clear, I soon had the hang of it. The pinpointer is a good money saver for beginners and the light makes it very easy to pinpoint items.
I found on my first trip out quite a few varied metals and some surprisingly deep pieces, the discrimination setting was easy to use also.
I can’t wait to keep practicing.
Great device, easy to assemble and straight forward to use! The kit I ordered came with everything you need to get started, done an air test and used it on the beach soo far and I have to say this thing is great! Identifys targets correctly and the pinpoint on it is spot on, have nothing but praise for this unit. If you’re planning on getting started in metal detecting like me, this is the one for you! Wanted to try detecting for a long time, didn’t want to spend a lot but didn’t want a cheap toy I read lots of reviews and you tube videos and this seemed the ideal compromise, well built, easy to use tried it a few times and I’m very impressed, detects very small objects, hopefully I may find something of value if not I’m still enjoying it.
I have been using a Dr Otek MTXR metal detector for some time and decided to buy this model for my wife as it is lighter to use.
I have tried various metals to check the all metals and discrimination displays by burying various metals in the garden and they were detected accurately.
This lightning deal which provided the detector, digger, headphones and a finders pouch represented excellent value for money.
We are now looking forward to going to our local beach to use the detector.
I have no doubt this will prove to be enjoyable, practical and accurate in use bearing in mind it is not designed to be a professional metal detector but will more than suffice for our needs.

Using this was really fun!! It’s quite straightforward to use, especially if you are (like me) just setting out on the detectorist journey. I am a complete novice, and wanted to see if there was anything to be found under our new garden before we landscape it (it is near an old Roman fort, so there was always an outside chance!!!)
I need to warn you, you may well find old nails, can pulls, and old confectionery wrappers… but it’s great that the metal detector can pick up on things like that.
However, it also found me my one fantastic find… no, not a cache of Roman treasure, but a George V coin from 1919. For anyone thinking about becoming a metal detectorist, I’d really encourage you to get one and see what fun or interesting pieces you can find.
The dashboard itself is really straightforward to use. I just played around a bit with settings to make sure it reflected the environment I was in. it’s lightweight so you can keep going for some time without tiring – although I’d recommend swapping arms regularly.
I’d definitely recommend this metal detector, and I shall keep searching for my hidden treasures…
I’ve never had a metal detector before but always wanted one. This was advertised as being ideal for beginners and it came with a bag, headphones and a trowel and seemed to do everything I would want: ie detect different types of metal, give a percentage liklihood of it being what it says it is and also detecting the types of metal you don’t want to waste your time digging up.
It arrived in a surprisingly small box, but that is because the metal detector needs assembly. Just click the shaft together, attach the coil, the display unit and the arm rest and you are good to go. Once assembled, it easily splits in to two in order to go in the back of a car or on the bus with you.
As well as the detector, you get a really nice pair of headphones which are foldable and really comfy, I where these to listen to music on my phone too they are that nice. You get a trowel that folds small and has a pick attachment and they both come in a hand shoulder back to carry them about.
The coil is fully waterproof so no worries about searching in a stream or by the sea shore looking for things. You can happily submerge it.
The control unit has several pre-defined search settings based on the type of terrain you are in and how it might affect the reading. There is an “all metal” setting, which will detect everything, but may give false alarms depending on where you are. There is a park setting, a field or ploughed field setting and a beach setting. As a beach is a damp salty environment, setting it to beach takes in to account he higher ground conductivity and adjusts accordingly to try and avoid false readings.
There is also a sensitivity setting which I tend to leave on full. If it detects metal, it will tell you what it is ie Nickel or Copper (or hopefully gold or silver) and a percentage likelihood of it being this. So if it flashes a ring-pull and gives you a 95% probability, I’d move on passed to the next item. If, however, it flashed gold with a 99% probability, I’d be digging to Australia! 🙂
It’s very easy to use. I’ve lent it to a neighbour to find some keys which she did. But my own success has been limited. I have found the usual things, screws, nails, cans and so on, but the only thing of value so far was a modern shilling – aka a 5p. But hey, small steps. I need to pick my areas better. I need to go to some ancient monuments or a busy beach after the tourists have gone home. Then I might have more luck. I also haven’t asked permission to do a freshly ploughed field yet, but I will next summer.
Despite not finding the treasure I could retire on, it’s still been fun using it and I can happily recommend it as a really good detector.

This was purchased as a replacement for a cheaper model I got previously. I wanted something which was a little more configurable and controllable. This package With everything you need for productive treasure hunting. Included is a set of headphones a mini foldable compact multi function shovel as well, a carry bag to put the main metal detector in whilst you’re transporting it. The Main metal detector arrives disassembled which requires quick and easy assembly by popping in each section to form the main stem as well as attaching the main control unit as well as attaching the main cables. The metal detector is powered from a single square 9V battery (battery included). The main control unit accepts a 3.5mm headphone jack for using Either the included set of ear encompassing headphones or a pair of your own choosing. The included headphones or a good pair suited to this particular use, and are adjustable. I would recommend the use of headphonesWhen outdoors looking for treasure as they give a much better level of isolation and a much more sensitive level of feedback. The unit also has a built-in speaker if you prefer that to using headphones the speaker volume is adjustable to 3 levels.
Control of the various functions is simple with Four buttons to control all functionality, a short press activates the primary function, a long press of the same button allows activates the secondary option. There are three scene modes: pasture, park, sand which set the metal detector up more appropriately for searching in each of these different types of environments. For more targeted searching you can also exclude detection of certain types of metals which you’re not interested in such as common ferrous metals. The sensitivity can be adjusted providing stronger or a weaker detection according to how close to the surface items may be. Another useful feature mode is the pinpointing tool, this puts the detector into ultra sensitive mode to help exactly pinpoint where lighting might be within a very small area. Weight Why is it certificate way in just under 1 kg so shouldn’t prove particularly heavy or tiring to carry with one main handle situated around the control unit and straps onto the forearm making it very comfortable to use.
Overall a good package which includes everything you need, the detector has plenty of options to help configure to the specific task you are trying to achieve. The metal detector is good enough to take you from beginner to intermediate level and beyond.
Some assembly required but you don’t need an engineering degree or anything. Very light for younger detectorists. It’s great that there are some accessories included and the guide and tone change for different metals is very useful. All over, this is a great little set for a first metal detector and it’s packed with features. 9v battery included so you are set up and ready to go in fifteen minutes. What’s not to like about that.

This is a really good detector, I already had one for my partner and we decided to purchase another for my father in law. It is lightweight and really easy to understand from the display.
It was sent well packaged with simple assembly required. The added items was of course a bonus and very handy to aid your detecting experience.

I bought this metal detector as I’ve had an interest in detecting for a while. I used to do it a long time ago and want to get back into it.
The metal detector is nice and easy to set up and has a lovely display screen which shows you a lot of information. You easily change the metal detector to different situations like beach,park and pasture so you can get the right settings for the right conditions. You can even use this is shallow water like in a river or beach.
You even get some headphone, a shovel and a finds bag included. The headphones are very good quality and work exactly as you would expect and the finds bag as a nice zip compartment to keep everything safe.
So far I’ve been out a few times to my local beach and a field near where I live and I’ve actually found some pretty cool stuff and I’m throughly happy with this metal detector.

Still getting used to this detector, but bearing in mind the low price which included, decent headphones, finds bag … and a reasonably sturdy folding spade it is definitely excellent value. It’s a beginners detector…so you’re not going to find tiny items a foot down, but it seems very capable at 6/7 inches and has some useful features plus the pinpointer and backlight. Great fun.
Do you ever struggle to buy presents for family members because they already have all they need? This is the perfect gift for them! It has everything you need to start a new hobby. Alongside the kit, the detector itself has some great features which increase your chances of finding precious metals buried underground. I bought this for my son a few weeks ago who is 12 and was looking for an entry level machine ( I already own a Dr Otek). To be honest for the money this is pretty unbeatable with a solid machine, good headphones, decent shovel and carry bag included. Easy to adjust height and lightweight.The display is large and very visual and it is easy to use the preset searches. Seems able to detect at about 15/16cm depth. We live very near a number of beaches in Cornwall and my son has already found a range of items left by holiday makers during the summer. He seems hooked and can’t wait to try it out in other places! A great buy and most recommended for someone looking for a Christmas present.
I bought this kit for my wife to use (I’m trying to make this a joint-hobby). I was really impressed with the digging tool/knife and headphones are really useful. I’ve used it a few times so far; mostly on land I’ve searched before. I was still able to locate a few interesting artefacts. The detector allowed me to locate items I’d previously missed. The pinpointing mode works well, but I would recommend any potential owners get a decent hand-held pinpointer too; dr otek also sell these (which I also own).
Everything you need to get you started on the search for – who knows what. The trowel is sturdy and has a pick for the harder ground. The headphones are a nice part of the kit, light and comfortable.
Have only used the detector around the garden so far but found a few pieces of metal (nails) a couple of coins dropped months ago and a pair of garden secateurs I didn’t know I’d lost.
Can’t wait to get out and about – must perfect my gold dance 🙂
My thoughts on the MTXE:
The kit provided (whole set) is decent — headphones are very comfortable, and even the shovel is of good quality. I had expected it to be weak due to the weight, but it’s sturdy. The machine itself is very light, but appears to be well made, with good, solid component parts. Its lightness is a real feature, making it much easier for kids. I’ve been out with mu daughter with other child-friendly kits and this one is much lighter. It is adjustable in length so would suit adults or kids.
It is simple to use, with a good, user-friendly interface and intuitive settings — different modes for park, pasture, beach. It even has a night mode which lights up the display. With other machines I have had to come in when the sun gets low — this would give a bit more time. It also has a very good battery life, obviously depending on the battery, but seems to be c. 3.5 hrs. The screen is waterproof, so you don’t need to buy an extra cover, which I always find annoying on my other machine.
In terms of performance, it is also decent. It picks up small items well, at a reliable depth of c. 6-7 inches. It can go deeper, depending on the object, but is less reliable as expected. I also wouldn’t expect kids to be digging that far down. The machine must be swung slowly though, so patience wins out here. Some items are missed if the swing is too fast. I was surprised by the quality of the iron discrimination — pretty impressive at this price-range, and a must if you’re a beginner who doesn’t want to dig 100% junk. Experienced detectorists know to aim for 99% junk!
In summary — this is an excellent machine and kit for the money, an ideal starter giving you everything you need initially. As one gets into it, you’d need to eventually upgrade. But if it’s for a beginner just wanting to dip their toes in, or for a child, this kit gives you a very good start. I’d say comparable to the Garret ace series, but a more appropriate buy for kids.
The metal detector was easy to setup in less than 10 minutes. Very comfortable and lightweight to hold. The display is large and easy to read. The set up included a multi shovel and finds bag. Only had a trial run in my garden and it seems straightforward to use. Great to have a battery included. Just waiting for permission from the local farmer to use his land. Also a 2 year warranty when registered. All round a great starter kit at a great price!
Bought this machine as it has great reviews and as i didnt want to spend too much on a hobby i didnt know i would like.
The detector was next day delivery which was great as i was keen to try. I put it all together which was fairly easy and took it out on some local fields and it soon found some old iron pieces and a few coins which were buried these were fairly current coins but they were finds!
I tried the headphones and dig tool that came with the kit and they are great too, the detector is very light so had no trouble holding it and swinging it for the duration i was there and i will be back to have another go very soon. If you are thinking of buying a dtector this is a smart first choice as it looks and feels good and it does work with no fuss as well as many features of the more expensive detectors, this has and will find you whatever is lost in where you are detectoring, this detector even has an in built pinpointer which is a very nice bonus and the detector length can be adjusted to suit your height. Whats not to like!!!
This is really good bought for me and my son to use. Really easy to put together and work. Went out in our garden to try out and found some bits straight away. The accessories that came with it are also very good we didnt think the spade locked into place so did find that a bit annoying but that was us not using it right found out it does lock. We can’t wait to use it again on our allotment. This is the best thing we have bought.
Excellent piece of kit for beginners, good feature is the sand setting as it tends to cut out more false signals. The machine is lightweight and easy to assemble. The headphones work well and the pick/shovel is a lot better than a lot on the market including ones for the army. If you’re just starting out you can’t go wrong with these dr otek detectors.
This is a great metal detector and very good quality and lots of features for its price range , comes with a good set of headphones a very good finds bag for your treasures/coins ect and a well designed and built digger tool complete with holster.
The detector is very light and very easy to put together. The settings are ready to go straight out of the box but can also be manually tuned. The volume can also be adjusted as well as sensitivity. The control box has a digital read with numbers making it easier to understand and it also gives an indication as to what the detection might be. It has a backlight which can be turned on and off.the discrimination settings work very well eliminating nails pull tabs iron ect.
For the price this is truly a good machine and i doubt can be beaten on price and warranty ( 2 years once activated on website)
previously bought a Dr Otekor metal detector and it was great. this new detector with MTXE kit is amazing. they have thought of everything to get you started. recommend for startup or semi to professional. it really does work. you just need to research a few things about false signals and the best weather to detect. fun from the start. the kit comes with folding headphones, shovel with pick head that also folds into a pouch. it has a handy depth measure on, root cutter and saw edge. another pouch to put all yoir findings in. the detector itself has great features to help you quickly speed up your treasure hunt. you can ignore the non precious metal signals and jump staright in. plenty of support from website. worth a read as it helps you progress quickly. though fun anyway. i gave it a really good test and found some cool stuff. actually found bits of gold leaf which is cool. some old and new coins and an old military cap badge. 5 stars all round

Ok, having now had some time with this unit I am happy to give my thoughts.
For context I am 6ft1 tall, a total beginner in the hobby and I suffer with chronic exhaustion and pain that limit my capabilities (fibromyalgia).
This unit is easy to put together, has an easy to understand manual, is relatively light, strong enough to feel confident in and has all the features a beginner needs to get them started.
The kit includes useful headphones of a decent quality, a very good finds bag with internal zipped area and an external “molle style” piece and mounts via a waist belt as well as a brilliant pick/shovel combo made of high quality steel with a very positive locking feature and a decent belt pouch for carrying it.
I doubt that in the sub-200 range there is a better kit to be had and if you can get this on a deal for less than 150 you are almost stealing it. The unit is easy and comfortable to use and the included accessories are great value, it would cost you significantly more to buy them (or good equivalents) seperately. The service I have had with Drtek has also been very friendly and confidence inspiring.
Dont think twice, buy the MTXE and get into the hobby, join the facebook group (if that is your thing) and make some good friends too – the community is very welcoming.

We had a problem with folks around our home leaving nails, screws and other metal objects laying around where we drive our car to park it at the bottom of our back yard. Our car’s last MOT inspector notified us that he found nails in both our offside tyres, so we had to get them removed. Fortunately, we got to them before they went all the way through, so no great expense on this occasion. But it was a timely warning as to what could possibly cause a blow out when driving.
We decided to find some way of resolving this problem without having to stir things up with our neighbours. The best solution seemed to be to find all the metal objects before they found our tyres, so we looked for a good metal detector at a reasonable price. We settled on the Dr Otek MT-X unit offered on Amazon at a very reasonable price of 72.99.
With absolutely no prior experience or knowledge about metal detectors or metal detecting, we found this unit very easy to assemble. The only issue we had was getting the tiny screw that fixes the control box to the pole into its place using the supplied screwdriver. We used our own screwdriver which was slightly magnetic and that fixed this problem in seconds. Once the unit was fully assembled and the batteries put in place, my wife, bless her cotton socks as I am disabled, ventured out into our garden to test the detection qualities of this unit. She found it very easy to use and very good at finding the various types of metal we used for the experiment. So impressed was she that she headed off out to detect the part of the area through which we have to drive our car to park.
About 20 minutes later, she came back inside very excited and showed me a plastic bag full of metal bits and pieces she had found and removed using this MT-X detector. Attached is a photo plus enlargement of the things she located on that brief foray. It takes little imagination to foresee the costly damage such discarded metals could do to a car’s tyres.
Needless to say, we are hugely impressed with the quality and capability of this wonderful Dr Otek MT-X Detector. My wife enjoyed using it so much that she is now pressing me to head off elsewhere to do some detecting. Ohoh! Next she will be asking me to get a much bigger and more expensive unit. Ah well, she certainly deserves to get what she wants for looking after me so well for the 34 years we’ve been married.
Thanks to all at Dr Otek for this great little detector and thanks to Amazon for getting it to us so quickly. It really has been a problem solver that has probably already paid for itself in protecting our car from future tyre damage.
Dr Otek is the man! Couldn’t justify spending a lot of money on a metal detector but wanted to upgrade from the basic toy one my kids had as it only found Iron and at one stage I preburied some coins to make our time together more memorable and it didn’t even beep. Sooo after some research I finally settled on the Dr Otek MTX.
Within 5 minutes of setting it up we found a 1992 British 10p! The kids were so excited and I was a little bit too! Not only can we now identify worthwhile targets using the different tones of bleeps but we can also judge how far we should be digging down. Really looking forward to taking it to a proper permission to find more treasure!
Look it isn’t a GarrettAt pro and there’s a small amount of assembly involved but we are very happy with this machine and look forward to making lots of memories with it.
If you don’t have a huge budget but still want to find cool stuff…look no further!
Living close to the beach we decided to try metal detecting as a new interest.
We wanted something that would work well enough to find objects but as it was a new hobby we didn’t want to spend a fortune .
We looked on Amazon and read up reviews and decided on the Doctor Otek MT-X , what a good choice it has turned out to be .
It was easy to assemble just a couple of bolts and a set of batteries and it was ready .
I was concerned that it might use up batteries very quickly but we have found that the batteries have lasted for several hours which is a good plus point.
The detector has found items a good few inches below the surface and the family have enjoyed the excitement of digging down for treasure ( usually bolts or cans … no gold yet !
It is simple to use , you basically scan the area and when you get a note you can accurately find where to dig by using the button marked Pin which homes in on the exact place by means of a higher pitch sound as you get nearer to the item.
The detector is lightweight so it is easy to use without any aches and pains and has so far appeared to be very robust.
All in all I would highly recommend this for your 1st detecto
I received the Dr otek mtx as a father’s Day gift from my wife.
I had been interested in metal detecting for sometime, but did not want to spend too much for my first machine.
After scouring various sites/detectors I decided on the Dr Otek.
The machine itself comes well packaged with a small foldable shovel and 2 year warranty with Dr otek.
It is very simple to assemble, the machine has 3 sensitivity settings, starting at the middle level of sensitivity as default when you turn the machine on, which means you can pretty much use it straight out the box.
However as I am a novice and do not have access to any land to use the detector on, I have had to settle with beach detecting for time being.
And this detector has been surprisingly effective on the beach, even on shingle.
Another useful feature of this detector is the pinpoint button, which when held will sound a constant tone which gets louder the closer you are to the item detected.
However I would still recommend purchasing a separate pinpointing device as I had to spend most of my time trying to locate the item amongst the sand/pebbles.
This is actually due to the detector being able to find much smaller metal objects than expected, one item in particular was a thin piece of metal wire approximately 3inches long and little more than 2mm thick amongst the pebbles.
Due to weather, I have only managed 3 sessions out with this detector, but I have always come away with a find (no treasure yet)
I also recommend reading the instructions properly and/or downloading the easy to find PDF file to your phone, as I did not do this on my first session and spent a lot of time blindly switching sensitivity settings, but once I read the instructions properly it is very simple to use and adjust.
As stated above, this is my first ‘proper detector’ after only using those common dial type detectors you see everywhere, so I am no expert, but for the price and entry level into metal detecting I highly recommend it.
I bought this for my stepdaughter who’s 13th birthday it was TODAY 26/06/2020. Well, what can i say? She is absolutely overjoyed with it! Very, very simple to put together (5 minutes max) and already she has found 3 in the long hsired carpet we have lol!
The simplistic controls allow for metals to be detected with ease and the quality of the digging tool that accompanies it is brilliant!!
She can’t wait to go and try it out on her Grandmas garden this afternoon, i only hope she doesnt detect a WW2 V2 rocket or some other unexploded munitions!!
I will update the review with other finds as they are detected, but from first impressions,this is a great detector for both kids and adults.
The pin point feature is very useful, sesitivity button and on screen display is excellent.
All in all, we are very happy with this purchase and whole heartedly recommend it to anyone looking to get into detecting. Very good price for the build quality. The sun screen over the display is ideal for this weather.
Can’t wait to se what we discover later! A great addition to the activities for the young ones, getting them outdoors and interested in detecting old things that they can spend time bringing back to life and researching.

My 5 year old son had been asking for a metal detector so I researched a few.
I eventually decided on this item.
We went out yesterday on our first try, we are complete novices.
Initially I was getting a bit disheartened but it does take time to learn how to distinguish between false alarms and an actual find.
We were out 2 hours which flew past!
We found several items, a few bottle tops, old pop cans, a two pence piece, then when heading home we were checking a small piece of grass where I thought we would not find anything, then bingo, I found a silver bracelet! It was approximately 3 inches down. The pin point detector function is very accurate and hugely helpful.
The item is easy to assemble, easy to understand and easy to use.
Spend a bit time getting to know the equipment and don’t get disheartened by false alarms. In a short time you will figure out what to ignore and when to dig!
Hopefully my find wasn’t beginners luck and I’ll uncover may more items! Just goes to show though that you can find items in the oddest of places!
The small digger is good to, strong enough to dig hard surfaces.

Absolutely fantastic. I’ve been after a detector for a while and always talked myself in and out of it. Read a few reviews on Reddit about the Dr. OTK and they had good reviews. Also a few gids on YouTube.
Next day delivery (fantastic) it took is literally 10 minutes to assemble. Just remember you need 6 AA batteries for the device to work.
As you can see from the pictures, our first outing (30 minutes after assembly and reading instructions) we were out in our back garden finding rubbish!
We came in had dinner and I went back out for 45 minutes or so and found, to my amazement, a trench art plane lead plane! I messaged a few forums on reddit and people have said it’s definitely 40’s to very early 50’s. This was just in our back garden, who knows what else is in there?
Anyway. For 78.99 if you’re thinking about it, just do it. Ive ordered a pinpointer, too. Although the inbuilt one is good, I’ve found it a bit cumbersome when you have a small handful of dirt and you’re looking for something.

Hi, I bought this product because I’d always fancied trying a bit of metal detecting. I didn’t want to go straight in and buy something that was really expensive (as some metal detectors can be). After reading some reviews I opted for this model, did a bit of reading online with regards to how to use it and off I went! Accompanied by my son and daughter we went out initially checked that it worked (by burying some nuts and bolts and different coins at various depths). I was really please to see that it was responding really well. On our first “real” attempt we went into the field adjacent to our house and spent the next hour finding various chunks of iron / metal. The detector is quite accurate and has 3 settings for Iron / Mid Range / Silver and each one makes a different tone when each is detected. Needless to say all of our finds made the lowest tone (for iron). It also indicates a rough depth of each find. We were just about to call it a day (it was raining) when we picked up a mid range tone, thinking it was just a “false tone” we did another sweep and it kept making the middle tone. So we dug around and lo and behold at the depth which the detector had indicated, we found a really old coin (photo attached) We have no idea what kind of coin it is but we were absolutely over the moon to find it, even more so, I was delighted to make this find within an hour of my first forage into metal detecting! To sum up, this metal detector works great, is suitable for a beginner and has really got me looking forward to my next search!
Firstly the reason for 4 stars is that we haven’t used this in anger yet just plodded round the garden testing it. however seems to work well and picks up lots of buried items.
I ordered this for my partners birthday as she always wanted a MD. Item arrived quickly and was well packed.
Assembly took about 10 mins and was simple and straightforward. (Don’t forget to buy batteries like I did :S)
Tested in the garden and with iron, silver and a gold ring. Picked up the different metals quickly and differentiated well. Lots of targets in the garden and did managed to locate a spring from an old clothes peg! SCORE!! Wasn’t overly keen in digging big holes all over the lawn so left it at that for now.
Once all this CV business is over we will be out to give it a proper run!
Folding shovel is a nice addition, including headphones would be great too but hey who dosent have a pair of HP knocking round the house. (currently using my daughters unicorn ones they flash and everything!) However, you don’t need HP as the speaker is lound and location tones clear.
Overall would recommend as a starter MD all the bad reviews I read were concerning faulty units, but also that the manufacturer had awesome customer relations and problems were fixed quickly.
I bought this for my son.quick to assemble,fairly straight forward. Did come with a small dent in the plastic screen on unpacking but as this was a Christmas gift we decided not to return as my son was so excited to use it the thought of having to tell him we need to pack it up and replace it when he only just got it, seemed unfair. Hopefully we won’t regret this,doesn’t seem to be no more than a cosmetic dent but does cast a small shadow on the screen. My only big criticism is the instructions. For someone who knows very little about metal detecting the instructions were very poor. Without sounding rude but the person who wrote the instructions may possibly be dyslexic. Clearly was not proof read after. Very hard to make any sense of. This means we have had to try watch YouTube videos to try make sense of how it works properly. Easy enough to drop a coin and make it beep and pinpoint but understanding the sens button and figuring out the depth is not so clear. Spade is good that comes with the product, longer expanding handle could be useful.
Update 15 oct. 2019. The handle of the MT-X is made of plastic and can easily crack if the detector is swung too fast or too widely for too long (less than 40 hours of not particularly intensive use in my case). Same problem, I suspect, if the coil inadvertently hits the ground a bit hard. Apart from this, the MT-X still deserves four stars in my view for the reasons given below and the speed with which the Dr Oetek support team provided a replacement.
Initial review : After several hours of moderate use over several days, I have found the MT-X metal detector sold by DR. OETEK to be light (no strained muscle or joint), easy to operate (only one button to press to locate a target) and accurate (all targets found more or less at the depth indicated and exactly underneath the centre of the search coil once the pinpoint sensor has produced its loudest sound). I started finding objects within minutes, including a rusty nail 7 cm long and 1 cm thick at a depth of 17 cm. Spotting much smaller artefacts can be more hit and miss in my experience but only because these targets are more difficult to spot with the naked eye.
According to the support desk of DR OETEK, the search coil of the MT-X model IS waterproof. I haven’t tested this but a user on the Amazon UK website gives the opposite answer so feel free to decide who’s right.
The parcel I received also contained a small metal spade (9.5 cm wide, 13 cm high, attached to a 26 cm handle) which can be turned into a pick (12 cm long) and which has proven quite useful so far. The handle is perhaps a bit short and needs to be screwed more tightly from time to time but the spade itself is very sturdy despite its relatively light weight (468g). It can be pushed into the ground with one foot and mine has already hit countless stones but retained its shape so far. The whole thing folds into a 20 x 13 cm pouch which can be attached to a belt or a backpack.
My only complaint is that the instruction manual could have been better written (I found it totally cryptic at times) and should mention, among other things, that in the assembly process the two rubber washers need to be placed INSIDE the fork to which the search coil is attached, not outside (their original position in the parcel). Someone brighter than me might have understood this straight away I suppose…
As a gift for writing this review, I chose to receive the black finds pouch pictured above (with the foldable spade hanging from one of two external loops). The pouch was delivered by Yodel only six days after I ordered it. It is 31 cm high, 24 cm wide and can be stretched to a thickness of about 10 cm . It weighs 226 g and can be tied around the waist with an adjustable belt. It contains an extra zipped compartment for storing items such as a small notebook or a mobile phone. As already mentioned, on the outside, two loops also allow to hang things such as the foldable spade sent with the detector. An altogether more sensible design than the bum bag I had tried to use up to now !

It is very light,and easy to use.On my very first hunt, on Clevedon beach, I found a george V penny (see pic), it was about 7″ deep and the pin-point mode was spot on. I originaly intended to buy the MT XE as a starter detector, and upgrade to a more expensive one but I am so impressed with it that I dont think I will bother.

Found a few coins from 1800s to 1960s and a lot of iron pegs
all in all an easy detector to use and it gives results
Ordered specially to try and locate gold signet ring lost on walk with dog – ring has sentimental value and is family heirloom.
Set off with machine and within 10 minutes found lost ring in undergrowth at side of path – it would not have been found otherwise.
Now loaned machine to friend to try and locate his wife’s lost wedding ring.
I bought this metal detector for my 10 year old son. He loves it. We are out every night over the local fields. Plenty of settings to play with and the target pinpoint option is a great addition. Would buy again and again from Drotekor 10/10
Really light weight and very easy to set up on the various modes. Seems very accurate at detecting what type of metal and what type of object and depth. Impressed and may well be buying another one now everyone has got detecting fever!
I absolutely love this machine I have found more stuff with this budget machine than I have with a top end one you take it out the box and your away it’s not about how much you spend it’s the person behind the machine if your looking for a budget machine highly recommend

Really simple to grasp the basics of the machine so could start straight away but with lots more to learn as time goes on.

I purchased this metal detector in April. Great for adults I’ve been a couple of times and found some things like coins and other things. I would highly recommend to all. The PP is very good.
The metal detector is great for beginners (ADULTS) easy set up very comfortable LCD is brilliant . The only issue I have with this product is the ON OFF BUTTON dose not turn it off long press and the LCD screen gose blank so turns it’s self back so I disconnected the battery this I do every time I finish with it . The depth it shows is not 100% accurate but still OK it picks up hidden treasures . It’s accurate on what it picks up . I have tried this on sand up to now and picked up good . I cant work out how to balance it I hope there is away as for each different type of ground will need balancing. Overall its a good item for the price please don’t be put off by the low price I think personally the price is to low for the item very great false . I added the extra for the shovel and finders bag I was very very happy with the hand held shovel and was so surprised how it had its own little bag that I carry inside the finders bag when finished with the finders bag has a place on the outside for my pin pointer to slot into as dose the shovel have its own place when set up for use . The lcd dose have a back light that’s very useful. I did use a garret but I find this detector up there with the garret , hard to belive but it is and that’s my opinion. From now on I will buy from this company every time . One last thing it has lots of adjustments for small or tall adults. I hope I have given enough information to any one who is in two minds about buying on , I was my self but I am glad I took the jump and god one .
Arrived in good time, assembled in minutes. Tried it a few times, but still getting used to all the information the display is giving me. Hence not found anything of use yet and why 4 stars for Accuracy.

I bought the MT-XE metal detector a couple of weeks ago. It’s easy to assemble and lightweight which will be great when using for long periods of time. The functions are clear and straightforward to use which is helpful for a beginner. I have given it a few outings in our garden and it’s detected quite a few targets, but I’ve not being keen to dig up the lawn…. So at this stage, I’ve left the items in situ! Will be taking it with me for a beach visit soon. Here’s hoping….
For a beginners detector it’s amazing tries it out in the garden and works great. Can’t wait to take it out to the fields
Having watched so many positive reviews from pros on YouTube of this detector, I thought that this would be the best option for my budget.
The tool is very solid and digs well and the bag and earphones are good quality.
It was easy to put together and the user instructions are very clear, I soon had the hang of it. The pinpointer is a good money saver for beginners and the light makes it very easy to pinpoint items.
I found on my first trip out quite a few varied metals and some surprisingly deep pieces, the discrimination setting was easy to use also.
I can’t wait to keep practicing.
Great device, easy to assemble and straight forward to use! The kit I ordered came with everything you need to get started, done an air test and used it on the beach soo far and I have to say this thing is great! Identifys targets correctly and the pinpoint on it is spot on, have nothing but praise for this unit. If you’re planning on getting started in metal detecting like me, this is the one for you! ( just wish it had a control box rain cover avaliable to buy seperate ) Thanks alot DR Otek! Off to find some History now!

I have been using a Dr Otek MTXR metal detector for some time and decided to buy this model for my wife as it is lighter to use.
I have tried various metals to check the all metals and discrimination displays by burying various metals in the garden and they were detected accurately.
This lightning deal which provided the detector, digger, headphones and a finders pouch represented excellent value for money.
We are now looking forward to going to our local beach to use the detector.
I have no doubt this will prove to be enjoyable, practical and accurate in use bearing in mind it is not designed to be a professional metal detector but will more than suffice for our needs.

Using this was really fun!! It’s quite straightforward to use, especially if you are (like me) just setting out on the detectorist journey. I am a complete novice, and wanted to see if there was anything to be found under our new garden before we landscape it (it is near an old Roman fort, so there was always an outside chance!!!)
I need to warn you, you may well find old nails, can pulls, and old confectionery wrappers… but it’s great that the metal detector can pick up on things like that.
However, it also found me my one fantastic find… no, not a cache of Roman treasure, but a George V coin from 1919. For anyone thinking about becoming a metal detectorist, I’d really encourage you to get one and see what fun or interesting pieces you can find.
The dashboard itself is really straightforward to use. I just played around a bit with settings to make sure it reflected the environment I was in. it’s lightweight so you can keep going for some time without tiring – although I’d recommend swapping arms regularly.
I’d definitely recommend this metal detector, and I shall keep searching for my hidden treasures…
It arrived in a surprisingly small box, but that is because the metal detector needs assembly. Just click the shaft together, attach the coil, the display unit and the arm rest and you are good to go. Once assembled, it easily splits in to two in order to go in the back of a car or on the bus with you.
As well as the detector, you get a really nice pair of headphones which are foldable and really comfy, I where these to listen to music on my phone too they are that nice. You get a trowel that folds small and has a pick attachment and they both come in a hand shoulder back to carry them about.
The coil is fully waterproof so no worries about searching in a stream or by the sea shore looking for things. You can happily submerge it.
The control unit has several pre-defined search settings based on the type of terrain you are in and how it might affect the reading. There is an “all metal” setting, which will detect everything, but may give false alarms depending on where you are. There is a park setting, a field or ploughed field setting and a beach setting. As a beach is a damp salty environment, setting it to beach takes in to account he higher ground conductivity and adjusts accordingly to try and avoid false readings.
There is also a sensitivity setting which I tend to leave on full. If it detects metal, it will tell you what it is ie Nickel or Copper (or hopefully gold or silver) and a percentage likelihood of it being this. So if it flashes a ring-pull and gives you a 95% probability, I’d move on passed to the next item. If, however, it flashed gold with a 99% probability, I’d be digging to Australia! 🙂
It’s very easy to use. I’ve lent it to a neighbour to find some keys which she did. But my own success has been limited. I have found the usual things, screws, nails, cans and so on, but the only thing of value so far was a modern shilling – aka a 5p. But hey, small steps. I need to pick my areas better. I need to go to some ancient monuments or a busy beach after the tourists have gone home. Then I might have more luck. I also haven’t asked permission to do a freshly ploughed field yet, but I will next summer.
Despite not finding the treasure I could retire on, it’s still been fun using it and I can happily recommend it as a really good detector.

This was purchased as a replacement for a cheaper model I got previously. I wanted something which was a little more configurable and controllable. This package With everything you need for productive treasure hunting. Included is a set of headphones a mini foldable compact multi function shovel as well, a carry bag to put the main metal detector in whilst you’re transporting it. The Main metal detector arrives disassembled which requires quick and easy assembly by popping in each section to form the main stem as well as attaching the main control unit as well as attaching the main cables. The metal detector is powered from a single square 9V battery (battery included). The main control unit accepts a 3.5mm headphone jack for using Either the included set of ear encompassing headphones or a pair of your own choosing. The included headphones or a good pair suited to this particular use, and are adjustable. I would recommend the use of headphonesWhen outdoors looking for treasure as they give a much better level of isolation and a much more sensitive level of feedback. The unit also has a built-in speaker if you prefer that to using headphones the speaker volume is adjustable to 3 levels.
Control of the various functions is simple with Four buttons to control all functionality, a short press activates the primary function, a long press of the same button allows activates the secondary option. There are three scene modes: pasture, park, sand which set the metal detector up more appropriately for searching in each of these different types of environments. For more targeted searching you can also exclude detection of certain types of metals which you’re not interested in such as common ferrous metals. The sensitivity can be adjusted providing stronger or a weaker detection according to how close to the surface items may be. Another useful feature mode is the pinpointing tool, this puts the detector into ultra sensitive mode to help exactly pinpoint where lighting might be within a very small area. Weight Why is it certificate way in just under 1 kg so shouldn’t prove particularly heavy or tiring to carry with one main handle situated around the control unit and straps onto the forearm making it very comfortable to use.
Overall a good package which includes everything you need, the detector has plenty of options to help configure to the specific task you are trying to achieve. The metal detector is good enough to take you from beginner to intermediate level and beyond.
Some assembly required but you don’t need an engineering degree or anything. Very light for younger detectorists. It’s great that there are some accessories included and the guide and tone change for different metals is very useful. All over, this is a great little set for a first metal detector and it’s packed with features. 9v battery included so you are set up and ready to go in fifteen minutes. What’s not to like about that.
The dector is lovely but the headphones that come with it are not working. The wires are not connected to the volume control.
Love this lightweight detector. Very reasonable price and excellent speedy delivery, it arrived two days after ordering. Lovely accessories came with it so all in all a complete start up kit suitable for both adults and children.

This is a really good detector, I already had one for my partner and we decided to purchase another for my father in law. It is lightweight and really easy to understand from the display.
It was sent well packaged with simple assembly required. The added items was of course a bonus and very handy to aid your detecting experience.

I bought this metal detector as I’ve had an interest in detecting for a while. I used to do it a long time ago and want to get back into it.
The metal detector is nice and easy to set up and has a lovely display screen which shows you a lot of information. You easily change the metal detector to different situations like beach,park and pasture so you can get the right settings for the right conditions. You can even use this is shallow water like in a river or beach.
You even get some headphone, a shovel and a finds bag included. The headphones are very good quality and work exactly as you would expect and the finds bag as a nice zip compartment to keep everything safe.
So far I’ve been out a few times to my local beach and a field near where I live and I’ve actually found some pretty cool stuff and I’m throughly happy with this metal detector.

Still getting used to this detector, but bearing in mind the low price which included, decent headphones, finds bag … and a reasonably sturdy folding spade it is definitely excellent value. It’s a beginners detector…so you’re not going to find tiny items a foot down, but it seems very capable at 6/7 inches and has some useful features plus the pinpointer and backlight. Great fun.
Do you ever struggle to buy presents for family members because they already have all they need? This is the perfect gift for them! It has everything you need to start a new hobby. It comes with the new lightweight DR.TEK metal detector, headphones, a foldable digging tool and a bag for the treasures you uncover. I loved using it and recommend it highly. Alongside the kit, the detector itself has some great features which increase your chances of finding precious metals buried underground. You can set the detector for different kinds of ground and you can exclude certain types of metals which are likely to be scrap. One of the most useful features is that it has an inbuilt pinpointer to enable you to dig in the precise location of the find. I recommend it.
I bought this for my son a few weeks ago who is 12 and was looking for an entry level machine ( I already own a Dr Otek). To be honest for the money this is pretty unbeatable with a solid machine, good headphones, decent shovel and carry bag included. Easy to adjust height and lightweight.The display is large and very visual and it is easy to use the preset searches. Seems able to detect at about 15/16cm depth. We live very near a number of beaches in Cornwall and my son has already found a range of items left by holiday makers during the summer. He seems hooked and can’t wait to try it out in other places! A great buy and most recommended for someone looking for a Christmas present.
I bought this kit for my wife to use (I’m trying to make this a joint-hobby). I was really impressed with the digging tool/knife and headphones are really useful. I’ve used it a few times so far; mostly on land I’ve searched before. I was still able to locate a few interesting artefacts. The detector allowed me to locate items I’d previously missed. The pinpointing mode works well, but I would recommend any potential owners get a decent hand-held pinpointer too; dr otek also sell these (which I also own).
Very easy to assemble very lightweight and very sensitive to different metals. Would have liked a rechargeable battery but otherwise no negatives.
Everything you need to get you started on the search for – who knows what. The trowel is sturdy and has a pick for the harder ground. The headphones are a nice part of the kit, light and comfortable.
Have only used the detector around the garden so far but found a few pieces of metal (nails) a couple of coins dropped months ago and a pair of garden secateurs I didn’t know I’d lost.
Can’t wait to get out and about – must perfect my gold dance 🙂
My thoughts on the MTXE:
The kit provided (whole set) is decent — headphones are very comfortable, and even the shovel is of good quality. I had expected it to be weak due to the weight, but it’s sturdy. The machine itself is very light, but appears to be well made, with good, solid component parts. Its lightness is a real feature, making it much easier for kids. I’ve been out with mu daughter with other child-friendly kits and this one is much lighter. It is adjustable in length so would suit adults or kids.
It is simple to use, with a good, user-friendly interface and intuitive settings — different modes for park, pasture, beach. It even has a night mode which lights up the display. With other machines I have had to come in when the sun gets low — this would give a bit more time. It also has a very good battery life, obviously depending on the battery, but seems to be c. 3.5 hrs. The screen is waterproof, so you don’t need to buy an extra cover, which I always find annoying on my other machine.
In terms of performance, it is also decent. It picks up small items well, at a reliable depth of c. 6-7 inches. It can go deeper, depending on the object, but is less reliable as expected. I also wouldn’t expect kids to be digging that far down. The machine must be swung slowly though, so patience wins out here. Some items are missed if the swing is too fast. I was surprised by the quality of the iron discrimination — pretty impressive at this price-range, and a must if you’re a beginner who doesn’t want to dig 100% junk. Experienced detectorists know to aim for 99% junk!
In summary — this is an excellent machine and kit for the money, an ideal starter giving you everything you need initially. As one gets into it, you’d need to eventually upgrade. But if it’s for a beginner just wanting to dip their toes in, or for a child, this kit gives you a very good start. I’d say comparable to the Garret ace series, but a more appropriate buy for kids.
The metal detector was easy to setup in less than 10 minutes. Very comfortable and lightweight to hold. The display is large and easy to read. The set up included a multi shovel and finds bag. Only had a trial run in my garden and it seems straightforward to use. Great to have a battery included. Just waiting for permission from the local farmer to use his land. Also a 2 year warranty when registered. All round a great starter kit at a great price!
Bought this machine as it has great reviews and as i didnt want to spend too much on a hobby i didnt know i would like.
The detector was next day delivery which was great as i was keen to try. I put it all together which was fairly easy and took it out on some local fields and it soon found some old iron pieces and a few coins which were buried these were fairly current coins but they were finds!
I tried the headphones and dig tool that came with the kit and they are great too, the detector is very light so had no trouble holding it and swinging it for the duration i was there and i will be back to have another go very soon. If you are thinking of buying a dtector this is a smart first choice as it looks and feels good and it does work with no fuss as well as many features of the more expensive detectors, this has and will find you whatever is lost in where you are detectoring, this detector even has an in built pinpointer which is a very nice bonus and the detector length can be adjusted to suit your height. Whats not to like!!!
This is really good bought for me and my son to use. Really easy to put together and work. Went out in our garden to try out and found some bits straight away. The accessories that came with it are also very good we didnt think the spade locked into place so did find that a bit annoying but that was us not using it right found out it does lock. We can’t wait to use it again on our allotment. This is the best thing we have bought.
My first time metal detecting and found lots of interesting things. No false decting just perfect.
Excellent piece of kit for beginners, good feature is the sand setting as it tends to cut out more false signals. The machine is lightweight and easy to assemble. The headphones work well and the pick/shovel is a lot better than a lot on the market including ones for the army. If you’re just starting out you can’t go wrong with these dr otek detectors.
The detector is very light and very easy to put together. The settings are ready to go straight out of the box but can also be manually tuned. The volume can also be adjusted as well as sensitivity. The control box has a digital read with numbers making it easier to understand and it also gives an indication as to what the detection might be. It has a backlight which can be turned on and off.the discrimination settings work very well eliminating nails pull tabs iron ect.
For the price this is truly a good machine and i doubt can be beaten on price and warranty ( 2 years once activated on website)
For context I am 6ft1 tall, a total beginner in the hobby and I suffer with chronic exhaustion and pain that limit my capabilities (fibromyalgia).
This unit is easy to put together, has an easy to understand manual, is relatively light, strong enough to feel confident in and has all the features a beginner needs to get them started.
The kit includes useful headphones of a decent quality, a very good finds bag with internal zipped area and an external “molle style” piece and mounts via a waist belt as well as a brilliant pick/shovel combo made of high quality steel with a very positive locking feature and a decent belt pouch for carrying it.
I doubt that in the sub-200 range there is a better kit to be had and if you can get this on a deal for less than 150 you are almost stealing it. The unit is easy and comfortable to use and the included accessories are great value, it would cost you significantly more to buy them (or good equivalents) seperately. The service I have had with Drtek has also been very friendly and confidence inspiring.
Dont think twice, buy the MTXE and get into the hobby, join the facebook group (if that is your thing) and make some good friends too – the community is very welcoming.

We had a problem with folks around our home leaving nails, screws and other metal objects laying around where we drive our car to park it at the bottom of our back yard. Our car’s last MOT inspector notified us that he found nails in both our offside tyres, so we had to get them removed. Fortunately, we got to them before they went all the way through, so no great expense on this occasion. But it was a timely warning as to what could possibly cause a blow out when driving.
We decided to find some way of resolving this problem without having to stir things up with our neighbours. The best solution seemed to be to find all the metal objects before they found our tyres, so we looked for a good metal detector at a reasonable price. We settled on the Dr Otek MT-X unit offered on Amazon at a very reasonable price of 72.99.
With absolutely no prior experience or knowledge about metal detectors or metal detecting, we found this unit very easy to assemble. The only issue we had was getting the tiny screw that fixes the control box to the pole into its place using the supplied screwdriver. We used our own screwdriver which was slightly magnetic and that fixed this problem in seconds. Once the unit was fully assembled and the batteries put in place, my wife, bless her cotton socks as I am disabled, ventured out into our garden to test the detection qualities of this unit. She found it very easy to use and very good at finding the various types of metal we used for the experiment. So impressed was she that she headed off out to detect the part of the area through which we have to drive our car to park.
About 20 minutes later, she came back inside very excited and showed me a plastic bag full of metal bits and pieces she had found and removed using this MT-X detector. Attached is a photo plus enlargement of the things she located on that brief foray. It takes little imagination to foresee the costly damage such discarded metals could do to a car’s tyres.
Needless to say, we are hugely impressed with the quality and capability of this wonderful Dr Otek MT-X Detector. My wife enjoyed using it so much that she is now pressing me to head off elsewhere to do some detecting. Ohoh! Next she will be asking me to get a much bigger and more expensive unit. Ah well, she certainly deserves to get what she wants for looking after me so well for the 34 years we’ve been married.
Thanks to all at Dr Otek for this great little detector and thanks to Amazon for getting it to us so quickly. It really has been a problem solver that has probably already paid for itself in protecting our car from future tyre damage.
Dr Otek is the man! Couldn’t justify spending a lot of money on a metal detector but wanted to upgrade from the basic toy one my kids had as it only found Iron and at one stage I preburied some coins to make our time together more memorable and it didn’t even beep. Sooo after some research I finally settled on the Dr Otek MTX.
Within 5 minutes of setting it up we found a 1992 British 10p! The kids were so excited and I was a little bit too! Not only can we now identify worthwhile targets using the different tones of bleeps but we can also judge how far we should be digging down. Really looking forward to taking it to a proper permission to find more treasure!
Look it isn’t a GarrettAt pro and there’s a small amount of assembly involved but we are very happy with this machine and look forward to making lots of memories with it.
If you don’t have a huge budget but still want to find cool stuff…look no further!
Living close to the beach we decided to try metal detecting as a new interest.
We wanted something that would work well enough to find objects but as it was a new hobby we didn’t want to spend a fortune .
We looked on Amazon and read up reviews and decided on the Doctor Otek MT-X , what a good choice it has turned out to be .
It was easy to assemble just a couple of bolts and a set of batteries and it was ready .
I was concerned that it might use up batteries very quickly but we have found that the batteries have lasted for several hours which is a good plus point.
The detector has found items a good few inches below the surface and the family have enjoyed the excitement of digging down for treasure ( usually bolts or cans … no gold yet !
It is simple to use , you basically scan the area and when you get a note you can accurately find where to dig by using the button marked Pin which homes in on the exact place by means of a higher pitch sound as you get nearer to the item.
The detector is lightweight so it is easy to use without any aches and pains and has so far appeared to be very robust.
All in all I would highly recommend this for your 1st detecto
I received the Dr otek mtx as a father’s Day gift from my wife.
I had been interested in metal detecting for sometime, but did not want to spend too much for my first machine.
After scouring various sites/detectors I decided on the Dr Otek.
The machine itself comes well packaged with a small foldable shovel and 2 year warranty with Dr otek.
It is very simple to assemble, the machine has 3 sensitivity settings, starting at the middle level of sensitivity as default when you turn the machine on, which means you can pretty much use it straight out the box.
However as I am a novice and do not have access to any land to use the detector on, I have had to settle with beach detecting for time being.
And this detector has been surprisingly effective on the beach, even on shingle.
Another useful feature of this detector is the pinpoint button, which when held will sound a constant tone which gets louder the closer you are to the item detected.
However I would still recommend purchasing a separate pinpointing device as I had to spend most of my time trying to locate the item amongst the sand/pebbles.
This is actually due to the detector being able to find much smaller metal objects than expected, one item in particular was a thin piece of metal wire approximately 3inches long and little more than 2mm thick amongst the pebbles.
Due to weather, I have only managed 3 sessions out with this detector, but I have always come away with a find (no treasure yet)
I also recommend reading the instructions properly and/or downloading the easy to find PDF file to your phone, as I did not do this on my first session and spent a lot of time blindly switching sensitivity settings, but once I read the instructions properly it is very simple to use and adjust.
As stated above, this is my first ‘proper detector’ after only using those common dial type detectors you see everywhere, so I am no expert, but for the price and entry level into metal detecting I highly recommend it.
The simplistic controls allow for metals to be detected with ease and the quality of the digging tool that accompanies it is brilliant!!
She can’t wait to go and try it out on her Grandmas garden this afternoon, i only hope she doesnt detect a WW2 V2 rocket or some other unexploded munitions!!
I will update the review with other finds as they are detected, but from first impressions,this is a great detector for both kids and adults.
The pin point feature is very useful, sesitivity button and on screen display is excellent.
All in all, we are very happy with this purchase and whole heartedly recommend it to anyone looking to get into detecting. Very good price for the build quality. The sun screen over the display is ideal for this weather.
Can’t wait to se what we discover later! A great addition to the activities for the young ones, getting them outdoors and interested in detecting old things that they can spend time bringing back to life and researching.

I eventually decided on this item.
We went out yesterday on our first try, we are complete novices.
Initially I was getting a bit disheartened but it does take time to learn how to distinguish between false alarms and an actual find.
We were out 2 hours which flew past!
We found several items, a few bottle tops, old pop cans, a two pence piece, then when heading home we were checking a small piece of grass where I thought we would not find anything, then bingo, I found a silver bracelet! It was approximately 3 inches down. The pin point detector function is very accurate and hugely helpful.
The item is easy to assemble, easy to understand and easy to use.
Spend a bit time getting to know the equipment and don’t get disheartened by false alarms. In a short time you will figure out what to ignore and when to dig!
Hopefully my find wasn’t beginners luck and I’ll uncover may more items! Just goes to show though that you can find items in the oddest of places!
The small digger is good to, strong enough to dig hard surfaces.

Absolutely fantastic. I’ve been after a detector for a while and always talked myself in and out of it. Read a few reviews on Reddit about the Dr. OTK and they had good reviews. Also a few gids on YouTube.
Next day delivery (fantastic) it took is literally 10 minutes to assemble. Just remember you need 6 AA batteries for the device to work.
As you can see from the pictures, our first outing (30 minutes after assembly and reading instructions) we were out in our back garden finding rubbish!
We came in had dinner and I went back out for 45 minutes or so and found, to my amazement, a trench art plane lead plane! I messaged a few forums on reddit and people have said it’s definitely 40’s to very early 50’s. This was just in our back garden, who knows what else is in there?
Anyway. For 78.99 if you’re thinking about it, just do it. Ive ordered a pinpointer, too. Although the inbuilt one is good, I’ve found it a bit cumbersome when you have a small handful of dirt and you’re looking for something.

Firstly the reason for 4 stars is that we haven’t used this in anger yet just plodded round the garden testing it. however seems to work well and picks up lots of buried items.
I ordered this for my partners birthday as she always wanted a MD. Item arrived quickly and was well packed.
Assembly took about 10 mins and was simple and straightforward. (Don’t forget to buy batteries like I did :S)
Tested in the garden and with iron, silver and a gold ring. Picked up the different metals quickly and differentiated well. Lots of targets in the garden and did managed to locate a spring from an old clothes peg! SCORE!! Wasn’t overly keen in digging big holes all over the lawn so left it at that for now.
Once all this CV business is over we will be out to give it a proper run!
Folding shovel is a nice addition, including headphones would be great too but hey who dosent have a pair of HP knocking round the house. (currently using my daughters unicorn ones they flash and everything!) However, you don’t need HP as the speaker is lound and location tones clear.
Overall would recommend as a starter MD all the bad reviews I read were concerning faulty units, but also that the manufacturer had awesome customer relations and problems were fixed quickly.
I bought this for my son.quick to assemble,fairly straight forward. Did come with a small dent in the plastic screen on unpacking but as this was a Christmas gift we decided not to return as my son was so excited to use it the thought of having to tell him we need to pack it up and replace it when he only just got it, seemed unfair. Hopefully we won’t regret this,doesn’t seem to be no more than a cosmetic dent but does cast a small shadow on the screen. My only big criticism is the instructions. For someone who knows very little about metal detecting the instructions were very poor. Without sounding rude but the person who wrote the instructions may possibly be dyslexic. Clearly was not proof read after. Very hard to make any sense of. This means we have had to try watch YouTube videos to try make sense of how it works properly. Easy enough to drop a coin and make it beep and pinpoint but understanding the sens button and figuring out the depth is not so clear. Spade is good that comes with the product, longer expanding handle could be useful.
Initial review : After several hours of moderate use over several days, I have found the MT-X metal detector sold by DR. OETEK to be light (no strained muscle or joint), easy to operate (only one button to press to locate a target) and accurate (all targets found more or less at the depth indicated and exactly underneath the centre of the search coil once the pinpoint sensor has produced its loudest sound). I started finding objects within minutes, including a rusty nail 7 cm long and 1 cm thick at a depth of 17 cm. Spotting much smaller artefacts can be more hit and miss in my experience but only because these targets are more difficult to spot with the naked eye.
According to the support desk of DR OETEK, the search coil of the MT-X model IS waterproof. I haven’t tested this but a user on the Amazon UK website gives the opposite answer so feel free to decide who’s right.
The parcel I received also contained a small metal spade (9.5 cm wide, 13 cm high, attached to a 26 cm handle) which can be turned into a pick (12 cm long) and which has proven quite useful so far. The handle is perhaps a bit short and needs to be screwed more tightly from time to time but the spade itself is very sturdy despite its relatively light weight (468g). It can be pushed into the ground with one foot and mine has already hit countless stones but retained its shape so far. The whole thing folds into a 20 x 13 cm pouch which can be attached to a belt or a backpack.
My only complaint is that the instruction manual could have been better written (I found it totally cryptic at times) and should mention, among other things, that in the assembly process the two rubber washers need to be placed INSIDE the fork to which the search coil is attached, not outside (their original position in the parcel). Someone brighter than me might have understood this straight away I suppose…
As a gift for writing this review, I chose to receive the black finds pouch pictured above (with the foldable spade hanging from one of two external loops). The pouch was delivered by Yodel only six days after I ordered it. It is 31 cm high, 24 cm wide and can be stretched to a thickness of about 10 cm . It weighs 226 g and can be tied around the waist with an adjustable belt. It contains an extra zipped compartment for storing items such as a small notebook or a mobile phone. As already mentioned, on the outside, two loops also allow to hang things such as the foldable spade sent with the detector. An altogether more sensible design than the bum bag I had tried to use up to now !
