Running 2 units for the winter. They keep the house humidity at a reasonable level during the cold dry winter.
Elechomes has a good customer service. Willing to stand behind product and replace it. Happy with my purchase.
So far we have like this product. Overall, however we definitely have to refill more often than we thought we would. Which isn’t a big deal, just going for convenience factor not what we were expecting. Should state we are still playing with the humidity levels.
This is whisper quiet which I like because I use it at night to help with my dry eye. It also has a sleep mode to turns the light board off which is important at night. Water lasts all night. I also like the heat mode for warm steam.
First of all the white colour looks really nice and cool!
Now the humidifier works really well. I have skin problems so it’s really helpful in that regards. The humidity emission is really strong enough to keep your room and indoor plants moist. If you are using warm mist feature than the water in the tank going to finish at a faster rate.
The humidifier needs regular cleaning or it can have adverse effects to your health.
This is a late post compared to when I purchased this back in 2020, but here we go:
This product works perfectly. I love it! My daughter and I have asthma and allergies, when you need cool humidified air to help your baby sleep at night you really need a product you can rely on. Not only does is perform as it says, but the team really came through for me. Recently, after 2 years the threading to the water chamber broke, and I was just outside of warranty. I wrote an email, and got a reply within hours. After sending some pictures, they agreed to help. I thought they would send a new water chamber, but they went above the calling and sent an entirely new unit. I am so appreciative of this company and their team. Really at a losf for words. Thank you so much from my family to yours
This device is a power house of all humidifier’s ever, i have ran it throughout nights after nights and tanks after tanks in one go and it just keeps going Very very good quality, everyone with kids in the UK needs to have one and it’s this one for sure.
You sleeps better not blocked nose or sore throat in morning
This has been reliable so far although the timer function was a bit confusing at first.
The major downside for me that would prevent me from purchasing this particular model again in the future, should I need to, would be the top up opening being at the bottom of the reservoir.
If you’re serious about your plant hobby and need to maintain a certain amount of humidity (eg. 65% in my case), refilling this every 2-3 days is a pain when you have to remove the reservoir and take it to the bathroom / kitchen to refill it each time.
Next time, I would probably opt for the model with the top up opening at the top of the unit.
I live in south Florida where the humidity is super high but where the AC dries out the air especially at night in the bedroom. I used to wake up with sinuses all plugged up. No more. At ten when I go to bed I turn it on, 50% humidity, medium level. I use the sleep mode to cancel the flashing lights. I turn it off at 6 am when I get up. It uses so little water that a week later it is still half full. I change the water anyway and let the tank and plugs dry out all day. Filling the tank and having to turn it upside down is not very practical but I manage. Bottom line so far so good.
This humidifier is fab, it’s silent and accurate, timer and other settings etc all work grea
Fantastic product and good quality. Really recommend others. There is nothing better than health. This product is really good and smart choice.
For heating my lounge and bedroom also used the oil diffuser which i found useful and gives off more scent than my oil diffuser. Remote control is childs play
Had it running for around a week.
Really good value for money. Think I paid around 50.
All features work well.
Reviews are correct regarding it switching on and off as it registers a quick rise in humidity when it’s running.
Not an issue though.
I have it set on 65% and level 2 heat and it’s working well. Full tank lasts about 48hrs.
It is pretty much silent so far.
Does all the functions it states would be much better if the size is smalle
Easy to use keeps the humidity great in my garden bar which has a 45 cubic metre area to heat and keep humidity at 55%
The device works good except sometimes needs to push the on/off button more than once to turn it off.steam and heat very good
Broke in 6wks & was very unacceptable when reading ambient room humidity by 15/20% that’s huge
This humidifier has quite a few settings that allow you to customise the humidity to exactly how you like it. It looks very smart and the display is very clear and elegant. The remote control is very easy to use and and helpful. For me the only downside is that you will get a few small drops of water from the unit as you remove the water hopper. It’s not a slick operation but I’ve had others that were far worse.
It’s great for my plants in one room. It’s easy to use and adjust. Love it and great for the price.
Easy to use if the humidifier is lower down, my weak arms can’t lift the tank when it’s higher up. Otherwise its a great product, given the fact I use it for 10 hours daily on the set timer it can run for up to 5 days set for 70%. The noise is very minimal but if used on night mode, you can’t even notice it.
I bought many Humidifiers, but this one is really good and capable to change the humidity of the room and also has sitting to set when it should stop and start automatically.
I am very please with this product. My plants are thriving!
I like the easiness and quietness whilst doing it’s job
I bought two of them and I couldn’t be happier. They are very quiet and will maintain the humidity set. I use one for my plants and one in my bedroom. Really happy!
Good value for money great for yiur skin and breathing
Really great humidifier, we bought it for our dog who had lymphoma to help him breathe at night. It did work whilst he was still with us and it does make the air clearer. Just like previous reviews the only downfall is the filling up the jug then putting it back on. But it’s great and I got it for an amazing price at the time (30!).
Love this. Bought this with a discount, my plants love it, only downside is that its bottom fill on the water tank, but suppose if you get the newer model then you’d have the benefit of top filling.
Overall considering the performance and value for money, I would say it’s definitely satisfactory quality for the price paid. If anyone is undecided, hope this helps with the decision when it comes to value for money!
Recently purchased this as an additional humidifier for indoor plants. Great addition and powerful, setting choices are great. I would say this humidifier is slightly louder than one of my others but still no complaints, bottom full 6l bottle is ideal and two directional nozzles. Option to use warm or cool which is great additio
Heat element firs up quickly don’t use it and you will find minimum maintenance issues.
Effective and easy to use. Particularly like the tank capacity and the aromatic diffuse
I was having problem to sleep, waking up with my nose blocked and now I sleep like a baby. And the 6l capacity its great cause we don’t need to refill all the time, great product even tho its a bit noisy.
Great product. Bit odd that it fills from the bottom. I’d prefer functionality over looks. But what ever floats your boat. Great purchase though!
Long story short, I had to return my UC5501 humidifier due to an issue with my specific unit.
It was a great machine but has a few things that were anoying, so I replaced it with the Top Load model SH8820 .
I’m going to do a comparison now.
Both are great Humidifiers. The tanks are large enough to run for about 3 days (I only tend to run mine for about 4 hours at night).
Both have a variety of options that are awesome. Like the hot or cold mist which has multiple output options.
Comparison:
SH8820 – pros:
top load model, which allows you to either remove the inner tank to fill in bathtub, or bring a pitcher to the machine and fill that way.
Has an actual sleep option which turns off the lights. (I didnt even realize how much This was needed).
Has a child lock option.
Con: tank is opaque, so it’s hard to tell how much water is in it.
UC5501 (it’s this one that this review I attached to).
Pros: clear sided tank, so it’s easy to see how much water it has.
It’s about $20 cheaper on Amazon at time of perchase.
Cons:
Bottom load water tank which requires removal to fill.
The tank is kind of an awkward shape (see pictures), and it’s awkward to take back and fourth to the bathtub to fill it.
Colors – Black Vs White.
Personally I like the look of the black better and I find the blue light more soothing then the yellow lights (on white model).
However the black shows the water spots, that appear almost immediately after turning the machine on (because it’s adding water to the air).
So ultimately the white ends up looking cleaner longer.
As such, I would recommend if you are trying to decide. Both of these are good humidifiers. But if your trying to decide, go for the Top Load SH8820. It will be worth it in the long run.
Absolutely amazing product, bought it for our small plant business (Silver Roots). Perfect for increasing the humidity especially this time of year, easy to use and to control what level of humidity you want. Within the first hour the stock room went from 65% humidity to 90%. Easy remote control to be able to get the setting you want without any fuss, was simple to use and straight forward. The heat setting is also brillant a lot hotter then we expected but not scolding so no risk to small children or pets. It brought the temperature up instantly. Which is also so needed this time of year also for those tropical plants who like to keep cosy.
Would recommend for anyone who has a large collection of plants or businesses, you will see instant results without the extra work.
It is very powerful for the price we paid and will do use nicely for now untill we grow. We are over the moon with the product we have chosen.
10/10 will be back to buy another one in the future!
So easy to set up. Very intelligent humidifier. I love it. My house plants love it. I set it to run for a couple of hours in the morning and that’s about it. Sometimes will pop it on when the heating is on so the air around my house plants doesn’t get too dry. I love the fact that you can choose a warm mist so I can help create a tropical environment for my collection. Accurate humidity reading as works well with an external hygrometer. Thank you so much
I have only been using this unit for a short time and so far I am quite satisfied. The controls are easy to use and the display is easy to read. I can’t really rate how easy it is to clean, as I have not done this yet. I use only distilled water in the humidifier so I do not anticipate mineral buildup and I do not believe that a filter is necessary. I love that I can set the desired level of humidity and the unit will shut off when that humidity level is reached. This is a big improvement to the manual humidifier that I replaced. I like the generous size of the water tank because I don’t expect to fill it very frequently. I can’t comment on the sleep setting because I have not tried it yet. I sleep in another room and at night I usually just leave the setting as it is or turn the unit off if the humidity is over 40%. I would recommend this item.
Update: After using this unit for a while, I discovered that the humidity reading fluctuates. I have a hygrometer in the same room as this humidifier. The humidity reading on the humidifier fluctuates up to a reading that is 12% higher than the humidity shown on the other hygrometer. At other times, the reading on the humidifier is only 2% higher than the reading on the hygrometer. I have concluded that the hygrometer is far more accurate than the humidity reading on the humidifier, which greatly reduces the utility of an automatic shutoff on the humidifier. If I set the desired humidity on the humidifier to, say, 50%, the ultimate reading on the other hygrometer may be anywhere between 38% and 48%. I still like the unit for other features, but I don’t feel that the humidity readout is accurate enough to provide the automatic shutoff function I had hoped for.
Works as described, easy to use, but ugly: no attempt at aesthetic appearance–e.g., for use in a living room.
Simply, best choice I could make. Works brilliant, easy to use, quiet and kids love it. Really impressed with the customer service side as well. Highly recommended!
ank had cracked and leaked water about 6month after i bought it. got sent a complete new machine no questions asked. super friendly. delivery arrived the day after our email exchange. very impressive
machine overall is good. huge tank prevents constant refilling. only negative the colour display can not be switched off and is quite bright. so probably not ideal for the bedroom
This product had great review from the US, but luckily this comes with a standard UK plug. The only other option with a Dyson which is far more expensive and is not so easy to use. Simple design, large tank which is easy to open and fill. Works well, you do get a hum from the device when in use but supposed that would be the same from any other manufacturers product.
Extremely easy to use and was a life saver during recent tonsillectomy! Only complaint is the LED display is very bright and can’t be turned down otherwise highly recommended
Checking my Amazon purchase history just now I see I’ve purchased at total of FOURTEEN humidifiers, so when I write this I know a bit about what I’m saying: This is the best humidifier I’ve ever owned. It’s quiet, high-output, and has both cool-mist and warm-mist options. Unlike other “warm”-mist humidifiers that simply use a heating element to raise the water temperature to slightly above room temperature prior to ultrasonic vaporization, this one heats the water to a full boil while SIMULTANEOUSLY using ultrasonic vaporization to greatly increase the vapor output. This gives you the best of both worlds: A high degree of output with a sterile vapor product and no chalky white residue left behind. Many of my humidifiers need to be cleaned once a month (or even more often) but this one lasted nearly a year before it needed cleaning due to the boiling feature. Unfortunately, while cleaning it I got a small amount of water in a side port near the bottom of the unit and it never turned on again, which is the only reason I’m rating it 4 stars instead of 5. (This is the compartment for essential oils which is another feature it has, if you’re into that kind of thing – don’t make the same mistake I made!) Despite that I WILL be repurchasing this humidifier and if washing the new one a bit more carefully doesn’t kill it I’ll be sticking with this one exclusively going forward.
So to recap the pros: (1) Quiet operation. (2) High volume output. (3) Sterile output. (4) Minimal need for cleaning.
And the con: (1) Be careful not to allow water inside while cleaning it or it could break permanently.
Quite nice and decent size got rhis for my most used area in the house. Living room I feel more confident with the clean air warming affect is differe
I love this diffuser. It is whisper quiet and has setting to automatically keep the room at the right moisture level. Has a warm and cold setting and tank easily holds enough water for 24 hours of running
This is a quiet machine with a large water capacity. It’s clean and compact. The display cycles between different readings which I find irritating and would like a way to fix. I just want to know current humidity. The water chamber has to be inverted to fill and I found that if it is allowed to get near empty it does not have enough weight to hold its seal to the base so I had a puddle of water on the floor! I’m using it in a 20m square conservatory and it has raised the humidity very successfully.
I love that theres so many functions on this humidifier, the function to just set the hunidity is fab as it switches off when it reaches the humidity. Its quiet and the remote control is super handy! I use it in my front room for my plants and even on the cool mist setting it reaches the humidity level I like of 65%, hot mist reaches it much quicker!
Almost perfect apart from the fact this is bottom filled.
I use a humidifier in my bedroom and need a quiet one. All humidifiers make some noise due to the fan that blows the mist, and dipping as water is metered out of the tank into the ultrasonic mist generator. This machine is the best I’ve tried on both counts, unlike its bother the SH8820 that has a much noisier fan and drips loudly. This model is very similar to the Levoit LV600HH but cheaper, and has a sensible feature that keeps the fan running for 3 minutes after the set humidity has been reached to purge the channel to the hygrometer in case it has been affected by a pocket of humidity (whereas the Levoit’s fan stops immediately). I don’t think the sleep mode makes a difference to the noise level on any of these machines, as all it seems to do is to remove beeps from the buttons.
Rooms in my home tend to be pretty chilly and dry in the winter and my central humidifier never seems to work as well as I like. Cool mist humidifiers just tend to make the air even more chilly, so this was why I chose the Elechomes Warm/Cool Mist Humidifier. It had a number of excellent reviews here on Amazon and YouTube. The humidifier was packaged very securely but I was disappointed to find that the water tank on my unit was leaky. It worked fine on the base, but left a trail of water as I carried it from the sink to the base’s home in my bedroom. I contacted Elechomes support and they were very kind and professional. After confirming the problem they quickly sent a new water tank which solved the leaking problem. Thank you very much Elechomes! The unit performs very well and has lots of options. You can choose 3 levels of mist and either a cool mist or 3 levels of heated mist. The unit can be run until the tank empties or based upon the built-in hygrometer with a setting from 30% to 80% in 5% increments. You can control the unit with the buttons on the base or with the included remote control. The bright LED display keeps you informed as to the current settings and current room humidity. There is a timer mode and a sleep mode that turns off the display. My only complaint about the unit is that putting the unit in to sleep mode to turn off the display also disables the warm mist, so you always have to have the display on when you want a warm mist. There is a special chamber on the side that has a cotton pad where you can add essential oils to enhance the mist. This works fairly well. The scent from the oils is subtle and the pad stays moist for a very long time. The unit can be easily disassembled for cleaning which is essential when sending particles into the air. A cleaning brush is included along with additional cotton pads which are used in the essential oil dispenser and the heating element. If you are experienced with cool mist humidifiers, you know that they have a tendency to leave a fine white powder on surfaces over time depending on how hard or soft the water is in your area. This can be reduced by filtering the water in the unit. Elechomes sells filters for the unit but one is not not included. You’ll want to add one to your purchase, especially if you plan to primarily use cool mist. This was a very good value. I appreciate the operation of the unit and the responsiveness of Elechomes customer service.
My wife and I recently bought four humidifiers to help with our overly dry home. We decided to purposefully purchase four different models, including this. These four models are the following:
– HuPro 777 Premium Ultrasonic Cool & Warm Mist Humidifier ($99)
– OVPPH Cool Mist Humidifier ($45)
– Elechomes UC5501 Ultrasonic Humidifier ($86)
– Levoit Dual 100 ($50)
I’ll provide a more detailed review of this humidifier below. For an overall assessment, the biggest takeaway for us is that you get what you pay for. The HuPro and Elechomes humidifiers are excellent. The Levoit humidifier works well enough, but lacks in some ways. The OVPPH humidifier should not be purchased due to fan failure after only 5 weeks of continuous use.
Overall Assessment:
The Elechomes humidifier is excellent, and only the lack of a top fill tank keeps it from being my favorite of the four. I would highly recommend it.
Pro:
– Very large tank capacity
– Excellent output
– Two concentric output vents
– Excellent warm mist
– Sleep mode available
– Onboard hygrometer
Con:
– Bottom fill tank
– Automated humidity control doesn’t work as effectively in very large rooms
Comments:
Filling: The single greatest weakness of this otherwise excellent humidifier is the bottom fill design. In order to refill the tank, you must remove it, flip it over, and unscrew the cap. (On the plus side, however, it does seem like you can get filters for the tank that attach to the cap if you have water quality issues.)
Output and Runtime: This is the best of the humidifiers we bought for output. It produces an excellent quantity of mist. The design of the output vent features two independently rotating sections that allow you to create two jets of mist in separate directions. This is an excellent feature. The output level is configurable with three levels (min, medium, and max). Thanks to its impressively large tank (among the best in this price range), it easily runs the entire night. Taken together, the output and runtime make this one of my favorite humidifiers.
Warm Mist: This is an ultrasonic humidifier, meaning that the mist is not steam. That said, this model features four levels of heating (no heat and three increasing levels of heat). The hottest of these levels makes the mist very toasty. Of the four humidifiers we recently purchased, this one has the best warm mist by far.
Hygrometer: Onboard hygrometers are great, but they become less and less useful as the room gets larger. In our case, we use this in a very large bedroom (so large, in fact, that we need another high capacity humidifier to provide sufficient coverage). This feature would work well if the humidifier is centrally located in a small room. In our case, the humidity reading on the humidifier is (understandably) higher than the reading near the bed. As a result, automated control (i.e. “keep this room at 45% humidity”) doesn’t work as well in larger rooms.
Sleep Mode: The sleep mode of this unit fortunately turns off all of the lights. Bonus points must be awarded for the brief display of “Zzz” on the panel!
Button Noise: The button noise of this model is very loud. If you have to press a button repeatedly (for example, to set the desired humidity level), it’s going to make you sad and other people in the house are going to think some alarm has went off. Fortunately, we found that we rarely have to press more than one button.
Update(s):
– Added cost of the Levoit humidifier
– Reported failure of the OVPPH humidifier’s fan after only five weeks of use
This is a very good humidifier! Refer to the many videos on the features. I will focus this review on my list of cons because as my subject states, it was a big mistake to add essential oils on the oil pad. The fragrance of oils is greatly diminished by what appears to be the smell of the pads (oil pad and heating element pad), which adds a hint of cigarette-smoke odor in the mist. Oils are impossible to remove from the pad, and once used, the unpleasant oil fusion permeates the humidifier and I can’t totally get rid of the smell, even after adding a few drops of vinegar in the water tank. To retain the pure oil aroma, I reccommend a separate oil diffuser.
At first, something in the mist appeared to irritate my cough, but no so much now. Warm mist does not get as hot as a vaporizer and it does not work in sleep mode, probably a safety feature. The remote control is convenient, but it is not lighted for use in the dark. When the machine is turned off but plugged in, the big blue console lights are displayed. You have to unplug the unit from the outlet to turn it completely off.
The machine manual is well organized and helpful, but could be better at pointing out the air vent that should NOT get wet. At least that vent is turned downward. Occasionally, our antenna TV reception gets choppy when the unit is running. However, this has happened when the oil diffuser was running also.
What I really like: Easy to set up–simply open the box, fill with water, plug in and, turn on–very intuitive. Comes with a tiny cleaning brush for tight places. Has a large tap water tank, which requires fewer refills and lasts days. Runs quiet and even quieter in sleep mode. Super easy to clean, with dishwashing liquid and water, but there should be a way to totally remove the smell of essential oils from the machine.
UPDATE 10-4-19: As stated in the original post, I genuinely loved this little unit. It eventually suddenly stopped working, and sometime later I wrote the post after purchasing a replacement. After writing my review, I was contacted by the manufacturer, and they offered to replace my non-functioning unit. They preferred I send back the failed unit so that they could figure out what happened to make improvements to this and or future models I’m sure. I had, however, already thrown away the failed unit. They were still accommodating to this, and after verifying my order with Amazon – sent me a replacement! I have a huge amount of respect for a company that stands behind their products, requests returns for product improvement, and takes care of their customers. Was it annoying the unit failed? Sure. But I’d rather know I have a product from a company that’ll take care of me – then buy one not knowing what will happen, IF, something happens. In short; these guys have gained a customer for life. In the event I need another humidifier for another room or something (I live in the desert, so odds are good), I’m going to see what these guys have to offer at that time. 4.5 stars if I could! Oh, it was also nice that I wasn’t asked to update my review (It’s incredibly annoying when I get those emails), so this is genuine customer satisfaction right here!

ORIGINAL REVIEW: I’ve had this for a few months now and it was working great. Easy to use. Easy to clean. The only missing feature I wanted was auto on (would allow you to plug it into a smart outlet). Anyhow, this thing just randomly stopped working. It gives an ERR (Error) code, and nothing useful in the booklet. Unfortunately it’s now a brick, and I’m looking for something else. When it works it’s great, but when it fails… It gives you zero indication what’s wrong. Best of luck!
