I put this with a 100 Watt solar panel on my RC Airplane Trailer. I have 2 x 100 Ahrs Solar Batteries. I run a 1500 Watt Inverter with a Bar Fridge attached and also charge Lipo battery packs up to 15 amp charge rate. System keeps up.
Decided to buy this instead of the little cheap 20 ones. Love how you can add the Bluetooth module to it and see exactly how much power you are generating and using
The device is very informative with inputs and out puts setting up the battery type is fairly easy with good eyesight but the instructions are very lacking in how to set up the parameters. You need to go to YouTube to set up maximum and minimum settings that’s the only way I could do it. As usual these days most instructions leave a lot to be desired.
I used my battery monitor for almost a year with excellent monitoring. Then I added the Rover and from the jump…disparities. And the Rover keeps the battery from reaching 100% charge. I trust the monitor before the rover battery %. But the unit does work well.
Es un producto de 5 estrellas, pero….. Ya es hora de traer manual en espaol, tener la App en espaol y tener una buena actualizacin sin fallos para el bt-1.
De momento no voy a realizar ms compras hastas que no venga en espaol.
For the price, this is a good charge controller. I would say that as you cannot set the battery capacity (on the 40 anyway), that the battery level monitoring is a bit hit and miss, but I use a shunt to monitor the battery level accurately.
No complaints really, the unit seems to work well and performs as expected. It’s well built and looks like it will last.
I purchased the 30A model to use with eight, 60-watt 24V monocrystalline panels for my RV. To make up for the daily drain from the 600 AH lead battery bank. I did carefully read customer reviews and the products specifications and I was not disappointed with my purchase or the performance of this charge controller. I cannot split hairs over this controller when there are voltage drops and voltage variations in every part of my DC system. The controller measures solar input and considering a 10-percent conversion loss (heat) or less, the DC charging current falls inline with the solar input current. All I care about is maximizing DC charging current and the USER settings allow that. I find the BT module and app work well for me adhering to the distance limitation of the BT module that is about the same distance as the lead attached to it. Once BT communications are lost due to distance, they must be reestablished.
I’ve read reviews saying this goes into float mode too soon. I get it now. The battery voltage this sees is not correct. If you compare with separate readings it’s off by .5-.7 volts. Meaning it thinks the battery is at 13.3v but really it’s at 12.6v. so the Bluetooth is necessary so you can up the voltages. Been reading and the battery should be resting around 13v but this only gets it to 12.7v at best.
This works great for getting the most efficient charging but it backs off way too early so the battery never gets a full charge. Still a great product but needs user programming to adjust charge voltages
This is my second unit I got when expanding my system. I wanted to match an existing unit I’ve had for ~2 years to avoid any possible conflicts. Although it does the job, it is hard to know how reliable the readings are. State of charge is certainly unreliable. It jumps about quite a lot, going from 100% to 40% to 75% in a matter of seconds. I wouldn’t put much faith in that reading.
My biggest issue is the very poor standard of the terminals. For a high current application they are very flimsy and are difficult to align when loosened. I am an electrician with 45 years experience yet it took me 30 minutes just to get 2 satisfactory battery connections. In the end I had to take the unit back off the wall so gravity would hold the terminal in the right spot to allow insertion of the cables. Very fiddly and frustrating.
his is a great mppt controller but some of the icons on the screen are quite small and the screen is not illuminated. I found the instruction manual a bit vague and resorted to you tube for installation instructions, The BT-1 bluetooth module was also difficult to install, maybe I am just a bit thick. now all is installed and working I am pleased overall
I have the Renogy Rover 40 Amp Solar Charge Controller and the Renogy 2000W Pure Sine Inverter. The brand seems to be well known for quality and I can’t fault that. But this review is mainly to compliment the tech support as I have been exchanging emails for a couple of months while I put this system together. (We had some late winter so there was a break in my construction between building the interior equipment and the exterior/solar panels and framework.) Anyway, Renogy was extremely helpful and provided detailed instructions on programming the charge controller, as the manual from the battery manufacturer didn’t translate well to the setting parameters shown in the Renogy manual. But today I made the final entries and held my breath as I switched it all on and voila` it WORKS. 🙂
And I’ve got a couple Renogy solar panels in my wish list so I’ll be back!
So I just wanted to pass on the good experience with their support system.
This unit controls the solar input and batteries so that they work together. The wire terminal is wide enough to take in battery wire sizes – I would totally recommend you spend the money and acquire this brand.
works really well, powers my two lithium 100ah battery’s great,i have a 6000w inverter connected two them,it runs every thing in my garage, great buy, thanks
I purchased this in MPPT charge controller to replace an older one that had quit working. This charge controller seems to be quite a bit better quality then the previous one.
i like this mppt 40 amp 12/24 DCV. it’s easy to use. i like the screen read out; i upgraded to 24 dcv batteries, so this mppt auto detected my batteries. the program allows you to select your battery type, and you can adjust your parameter should you desire. i’ve never had one fail. great product; decent price. Go Solar!
Wird mit zwei 265W IBC Solar Panels betrieben, die Ladeleistung ist beeindruckend. Das einzig traurige ist, das die Zeit fr die einzelnen Ladezyklen nicht einstellbar is
Has been installed for over three months, no issues other than my phone having a hard time finding the bluetooth signal sometimes from the optional transmitter.
I had been waiting for Renogy to have 40Amp versions available in Canada, but redid my calculations and found that 30 Amps would suffice. I am running 4 x 100W solar panels in series into the charger and have enough headroom to add another 100W unit. Battery system is 12V.Simple installation – highly recommend this charger.
I like the lcd screen. I bought a used very good and still not sure if was battery or charge controller that was faulty. This is a good product. Just buy new as is important.
Built well, Nice big lugs for larger wire. Get this over the 20Amp which has smaller lugs that are hard to use. Spend more and get this one. Why they dont have a backlight display is weird.
Technically its a great product. However as a new person to solar the journey was tough. The manual is limited and tech support not great. Most of your clients are new to solar world and you need to find ways to help them make the move.
See the video i posted here, the terminals are not as bad as some would make them out to be. YOU MUST BACK THE TERMINALS OFF BEFORE INSTALLING THE WIRES AND THEN TIGHTEN THEM.
Please note: There are 3 fuses (30 amp) soldered to the board inside the unit.
The unit seems to have good charge characteristics for my GC2 agms, and it does operate in mppt reasonably well, not quite as good as a victron but good enough for what i paid which i believe was boxing day special of 125$ CAD, for this 30 amp model. I purchased and like the BT-1 module functionality with the renogy app. The App could be better but it does work once you learn how to use it and what its quirks are.
I havent noticed this unit get hot at all, even when at full load, which is a relief. I used 4 gauge from the unit to my batteries and i think thats about as big a wire you will fit in the terminals. For the 10 AWG cables coming from the solar panels i used ferruls to make the connections a bit neater and keep the wires from spreading in the terminals.
Compared to the new models, this unit is superior i believe because you can manually adjust almost all the charge parameters.
We’ve had the Renogy Rover a40 for a month now with the Bluetooth attachment. The Rover unit is easy to install and use, plenty of info about what’s going on and being produced and used on the lcd screen. Plus the info is simple to understand on an iOS device and you can disconnect the load via the app, nice feature. I don’t like doing reviews fresh from the box, I want to use it while first.
I originally tried to save money and used a Renogy Wanderer PWM controller that had issues from out of the box.
The $100 difference is simply not worth it. Do yourself a favor and buy the MPPT Voyager. It will save you hours of headaches and uncertainty. This thing is amazing, works perfectly, you don’t have to do anything other than plug four wires into it and it’s ready to go!
This was an upgrade to me and it’s worked out really really well Very simple to install increased my output for charging and got a smoking deal on it will never find agai
So I used this unit to build a Portable Solar Power Bank, I heard some bad reviews on it from YT and took a chance. I was very suprised to see they fixed the issues, bigger terminals for large 10guage wire or larger. Larger screw driver ports and heavy duty screws. The Mppt kicks in after about 15 seconds and works great ! SouthWest Prepper Group Youtube APPROVED ! Great Job Renogy !
A great product that was easy to fit and works as described. Operation instructions could be more detailed and complete. Had a small issue with no backlight on my unit but after contacting Renogy Au and sending them a short video to show problem they promptly sent a new unit. Thanks to all the team as your prompt attention and service made it a pleasure to deal with you. I would highly recommend any purchase from Renogy.
So far happy. I upgraded from a Renogy 30A PWM as I was upgrading to more solar panels.
So it controls the power from 6 100W solar panel 2 series in 3 parles string, 42V and 15A. And it does the job properly.
Some people complain on 1 or 2 stars rating that they don’t see the full potential, but if the the battery are close to charge, it s not gonna go full blast (that’s why it s a more advanced controller than a PWM). I have seen the full potential when upgrading my batteries (2x200Ah batteries). As I am not using much power, the full potential of the solar array is done.
Big minus tho, not a backlit screen, not helping at night.
Very good purchased, I should have upgraded much earlier.
edit after 2 years : still worl very good. no problem and I live in that trailer. it really give the full potential of your solar array. I have seen up to 479watts of power from the 600 Watts array for charging. so very happy
Arrived Yesterday. No problem installing in place of another lower amp rated controller I was already using. It replaces the controller and attached meter I had. Attached a Renogy Bluetooth broadcaster I already had and hooked right up to my phone. Mine came preset for sealed batteries which I had to change to flooded. Hold the right button down to enter setup and the up arrow to cycle through the options for each. Hold the right button down again when you’re done to get back to normal operation. All good so far. I’ve never had problems with Renogy products before and I’m not expecting any with this.
It not to bad to install. For anyone who is going to do a install of the Renogy MPPT. I would strongly advise to read the instructions from cover to cover. Watch some YouTube videos. Learn the do and don’t. Then install it. If you do that you will have a excellent rate solar power for years to come.
Macht, was es soll. Gut, wer mit 1Gert alles abdecken will ohne zusatzkram. Abzug gibt es fr die ungenaue Spannungsanzeige des Akkus und fr den Leerlaufverbrauch. PS: Ist noch nicht Sommer, d.h. wenig Sonne bisher, so ich kann nicht so viel sagen.
I bought this for my boat. Connecting it up to 3 x 100 watt panels . It was super cheap or some reason… I was going to go with the Bluetooth option but the reviews are got great . I will just go with a battery monitor .
Easy to install, but a few moans –
* No back-lit screen, so you cant see whats going on at night…..in this day and age, theres no excuse for not having back lighting….
* the terminals clamp the wires IN FRONT of the terminal clamp, not behind (depending on your perspective)…..anyone whose ever fitted a plug to anything, or wires into a plug socket on the wall will get this….
* The 4 status lights on the front of the panel, all look like they are illuminated, when the useual 2 are on…..at a glance, you think you’ve got an error code up, but its not….clearly, the 4 LED’s are not shielded from each other inside the caseing, and get a bit of reflection off the ones that are lit……
* the button procedures (left and right, up and down) are quite complicated, and its easy to miss a step….YouTube is full of tutorials for the product, for this very reason……
To be honest a couple of guages to monitor battery strength, and “volts in”, would do the job, at a fraction of the cost…..the advantage of this system, is that you can set it up to shut down the charging, and tell you what its doing by bluetooth or the internet, (extra module at extra cost) but i am sure, there are other ways around that, that are cheaper…..
The “at a glance” screen gives you the basics,
* is charging taking place, * is the system using power, * how much is left in the battery (symbol) but as above…..a couple of cheap gauges, would have told you that anyway……
I meant to give it 3 stars, but pressed 4 by mistake……
This is the unit you want. Fully functional, easy to understand directions, and pulls as much power out of your cells without damaging your battery bank. Renogy hit the mark and set the bar for all other charge controllers to hit with this one. I have a parallel 12v battery bank with 525ah, 600w solar in series parallel for 42v and 15.95amp (as factory listing). This thing puts 38amps into the bank at peak, but when my bank gets to 515ah, limits down so it doesn’t destroy the bank. Weird quirk is the display will tell you the controller temp if you hook up the bt1 bluetooth. Kinda nice but the instructions don’t mention that.
Okay, so you really git a mixed bag with Renogy. Their tech is good, I have one of the 380W panels, it works well, and this Renogy controller. The panel smoked a smaller 20A controller, so I had to get this one.
Anyway, I was curious about some issues with the previous Renogy controller failure, etc, but.. calling Renogy, I swear I’m dealing with a crew of highschoolers… these people were terrible, really. just chuckling at my questions, sighing, whining, a couple of ‘whatever, I don’t know…’ kind of reactions.. really.
The online tech support is good, the documentation is good, so i gave it 3 starts. don’t bother calling the number, I think it’s the owner’s kids whose chores include company tech support!
I’m not going to add on to what others have said. I’ve had this unit now for over a year and it’s blowing away all expectations. I’ve almost double my power input, it works very well in low light even misty days and giving me peace of mind.
This is super great! I use 4 renogy 100w panels on the roof of my rv, and have a couple of trojan trillium batteries (12 volt) inside (So they don’t get stolen) This controller maintains my batteries with no problem, had this over a year now and even in rainy days it manages to maintain everything to expectations. Just have to set it up correctly for lithium use!!!!! Very important. Been out camping for 2-3 weeks straight at a time with no issues of how the charger handles power.
Fantastic product! I was using a PWM controller which I thought was good enough, boy was I wrong… Once I installed this to my 300 watt system the battery voltage boosted up big time and the max amps awesome. I run a 12 volt compressor fridge 24/7 and I use medical equip. and since installing the MPPT controller my batteries top off so much quicker after a night of use. I bring them down to just under 50% and they are ready to go for the next night without any issues. I really can not believe the difference MPPT makes. I now get a full 14.4 volts delivered to the batteries instead of 13.8 and they go into float stage much quicker at 13.8 volts
I just installed this 40amp controller with a 200 watt kit. I also added two more panels to make it a 400 watt (4) (100) watt panel kit. Everything I needed was included. I did it this way because of a reward program through work got me the 200 watt kit. Adding on was easy. I also installed the BT-1 Bluetooth module. I absolutely love this setup. Tech support was great for my couple of questions. Will be dry camping in the next few weeks; so, will see how my usage and battery bank works out. But, on a very cloudy day this is humming along.
I was so happy with the first unit, I bought a second one. It’s very easy to use. I have the two units installed at an off-grid cabin that has a 24v 400ah LifoPo4 battery bank. I also have two separate solar banks, one with 8-100 watt panels, and one with 4-100 watt panels. Once I hooked the unit up to the battery bank, I just clicked a few buttons to set the voltage and type of battery, and I was off an running. The unit has built in error messages to let you know if your wiring is wrong, or volts are too high coming in from the solar farm. I installed a camera pointing at my two units so I could monitor them remotely since I have satellite Internet at the location.
My Trace controller (non MPPT) finally died and so I needed a replacement. I was in a bind cause my batteries had run down to 11.3VDC. I found the Rover 40 on line and was impressed. There are a number of Chinese products out there but I’ll pass on those.
It was easy to install BUT you must follow the manual exactly. I have it operating now for about a month and all is well. I like the unit, operates as claimed and I’m considering to purchase another as back up. Comparatively well priced and this is a Amazon prime so delivery was swift, thankfully!
I replaced a standard charge controller with this one and was surprised to see it charging my deep cycle battery even when my solar panel was shaded. Much better and worth the extra cost.
Very good solar power controller. Turned camping trip with 29 foot travel trailer into fully charged trip. Had connected to 1 100 watt panel and it used all the power to charge 2 6volt deep cycle batteries and as well charged electronic devices through a battery inverter. Only thing I noticed is the led screen if touched the screen will make a mark on the screen, other than that very good controller.
Greatly improved performance over the 30 amp PWM Controller I had previously. Great features and easy to set up, however the BT-1 bluetooth remote accessory with Smart Phone app makes battery monitoring a breeze.
Excellent product. Robust and well made. Note that the BT-1 Bluethoot module was not included in the box to my surprise. I wrote to Renogy Canada customer support and Flora and her team managed to ship me one in no time. I got the BT-1 unit only two days later 🙂 Awesome customer service et Blazing fast shipping!!! 🙂 Thumbs up Renogy 🙂
I’ve been playing with solar products at my remote camp in Canada for amost 18 years now. I finally decided to upgrade to a MPPT charger and bite the bullet on the extra cost but was set back on just how expensive the units in the required capacity range were. I usually buy more capacity than what I need so there’s room for expansion, however the prices I was seeing were in excess of CAD $700! My system is 12 volts and the ratings for most MPPT controllers are reduced at that voltage. For example my 40 amp Rover can only handle 520 watts total for a 12 volt system. That’s just under 30 amps for 18 volt panels and at the lower end for my needs. The controllers get more efficient as the system voltage rises (24,36,48). You need to pay close attention to the maximum input wattage for the voltage of your system. Also important is the maximum series voltage of your array.
This Rover Li40 unit has far exceeded my expectations for an MPPT charger. I’ve wired my panels in series and the controller is now putting in close to double the current of my previous PWM controller. It also now charges a lot better during cloudy days. The build quality is good and the operating temperature range wide enough for occasional -35 C day which is important if your going to rely on the unit. I bought it at CAD $266 and I see it’s now selling for CAD $199! The other important thing is that Renogy offers great support. I’ve contacted them twice and they’ve been very thorough with their responses to my questions.
I knocked one star off for the awkward connection terminals and their failure to include a paper mounting template. Neither are show stoppers but worth noting. The terminals are a good size and secure when the wire is inserted correctly. However I found it difficult working in a tight space to (blindly) get the wire into the correct spot so the terminal would clamp down properly. I always double check each connection by pulling on the wire to be sure it’s secure. Two of them I had to retry 3 times. Another issue is these controllers are not CSA OR UL listed. Most people won’t care but it’s important to note that it may negate your fire insurance if installed in your house. On the flip side however a listed product would likely be twice the price.
I bought this along with Renogy’s 50ah Lithium Iron Phosphate battery and two 100w solar panels for my homemade travel camper. The charger is very efficient in charging my battery. It helps that lithium ion battery can be charged up quickly, so my battery is always at full capacity each morning when I wake up, even when the weather isn’t ideal (ie cloudy rainy days). I never have to worry about having to park the camper a certain to charge. I added 2 circuit breakers, 1 from the panels going into the charger and 1 from the charger to the battery. It’s nice to be able to quickly disconnect power if I need to work on either the battery or the charger. The bluetooth module is a nice addition. Although, I wish the range on it is a bit better. The specs say 50ft but in real life it’s more or less 10-15. Overall, I’m very happy with the setup.
Works great, the unit is a little large and does need ventilation especially in places like Texas so be prepared to give it what it needs but other than that it installed easy and works to perfection, ya definitely get what you pay for and I’m happy I don’t have to deal with the cheap knock off units that don’t have instructions you need to translate and guess at missing steps, thank you renogy for a great produc
I had this for about 3 weeks now… I love how you can change the battery setting to lithium… if I choose to upgrade my batteries and also it charged about 35 percent faster than the renogy PWN solar charger.. I use 2 of 200AH 12v AMG battery with a 100watt panel… this Mppt solar charger pulls current faster than my last PWN charger from my pannel… I can run my fan and charge my phone for 24hrs and still have about 84 percent when sun is back up… I still get alot of power on cloudy days as well.
These units are far superior to PWM controllers. I regularly get an amp or two out of the panels when it’s almost black outside. And 25 amps at boost into a 260Ah pair of batteries in good sunlight from 380W of panels.
I had an issue with E4 error (overcurrent) which I eventually fixed with a thermisotor in-line. However the support I received from Renogy (new 2017 unit shipped FoC, another updated 2018 unit shipped Free of Charge) has been nothing short of amazing and phenomenal. I can’t speak highly enough of their customer support. Great product, works brilliantly, excellent. Love it love it love it.
Well made, robust, far better than our previous pwm controller. Much better charge rate from same solar array. Recommend changing if you have a cheaper pwm controller. Not tried the custom settings yet.
I bought this after initially purchasing a PWM solar charger (cheaper, I was new to solar…) and the difference is substantial. First, I will stick with Renogy products moving forward — I purchased a CNBOU solar charger (MPPT) for a little less than this but found that it worked terribly and was inconsistent; took a long time to sense the batteries and either didn’t charge them or could detect the charge (perpetually @ 45%).
After many months of anger and frustration, purchased the Renogy 40A MPPT and have been MUCH happier ever since. I don’t have a huge solar array (2 100W panels > 100Ah battery bank @ 24v) but this controller does a much better job of getting as much power from the panels to the batteries as possible, even on over-cast days.
If you’re just getting into solar, it’s tempting to skimp and get less expensive components however it doesn’t take long before you out-grow these starter items; might as well plan for the future — it’ll save you $$$ down the road in un-used equipment!
A sophisticated and at the same time easy device to run that brings some comfort to you given the frequent disappointment and frustration you are likely to have experienced in dealing with other solar controllers/regulators available in the market.

Product arrived quickly and in good condition have yet to install it yet it looks to be of good quality
Renogy gives satisfactory discounts. Also works well but their are minor issues also to work with.
i like this mppt 40 amp 12/24 DCV. it’s easy to use. i like the screen read out; i upgraded to 24 dcv batteries, so this mppt auto detected my batteries. the program allows you to select your battery type, and you can adjust your parameter should you desire. i’ve never had one fail. great product; decent price.
Easy to install, keeps my leisure batteries charged and maintained. Great output even when sun is partly behind cloud. A bargain that works.
Good item, works really well. Manages battery & solar panel better. Easy to set up & install. Definatetly gives more amperage & power.
Awful to secure the wires but works well when fitted
I’ve had this unit for over 1 year in a unheeded shed at my camp in northern Ontario at temperatures down to -35 and this unit is working grea
Renogy Rover 30 Amp 12V/24V DC Input MPPT. The controller works really well and really get the most out of my solar panels.
This it the best on the market I have tried lots of cheep ones but I would not waste my money on cheep ones
So far we are very impressed with this charge controlle
All plugged in and all looks good!
Disappointed that the packaging was damaged and placed by the garbage bin…lucky the garbage man didn’t take it!
Extrmement complet comme contrleur solaire robuste et facile utiliser je le recommande
Seems to be a very good unit
No issues installing and setting up
This is super great!
But, on a very cloudy day this is humming along.
his was the best to install yet I wish they wolud provide a phone charger slot !
Hooked up to our solar panel, now runs our lights & TV in caravan great!
Si vous avez de gros panneaux solaire (2000 watts) c’est le chargeur qu’il vous fau
ot cheap but good things never are, works well and so glad to have made this choice
It seems work great. The one issue is the terminal connectors on the bottom are weak and I had to adjust and add supports for the wires
The unit mounts easily and works a treat.
Recommend this Brand for solar in my va
Much better and worth the extra cost.
i use the product for the solar i am happy with and it is easy to use
