I bought this Sharp microwave to replace our old Sharp microwave which had given us good service, but needed replacing. Very pleased with my choice of a flatbed microwave. This microwave beats well, defrost well and is easy to use. It does everything it advertised.
There’s nothing to dislike about this compact oven. It’s well built, looks good, and cooks perfectly. The best thing of all…of course…is that it has no turntable. The advantage of a flatbed microwave cannot be over emphasised. In fact, the only disadvantage is that they are still more expensive to buy than one with a turntable, but the price gap has narrowed with time, and now, a flatbed microwave only oven like this is very affordable. I have only had one microwave oven before, and it lasted 20 years! If this new one lasts only half as long…it will see me out! Highly recommended.
I bought this as a trial without a turntable The instructions were a bit complicated and I’m still learning .So far the microwave is working well. It arrived on time and was delivered well packed. Im happy .
Bought this to replace old one, pleased with it, only small niggle is that the child lock is next to the stop button right at the bottom under the timer knob, not easy to see under the knob, so sometimes hit the lock button by mistake.
During a holiday to Japan, I experienced the magic of microwaves without turntables. I knew I had to get one when I got back home, so I did! I could never go back to a normal microwave, flatbed microwaves are just so much better. The Sharp YC-QS204AU-B is intuitive to use, easy to clean, and I’ve had no problems with it whatsoever over the past 2 months I’ve used it.
Living on an island I had a unique problem with turntable microwaves, in a very short space of time, the turntable platform would go rusty as the friction weakens the paint away and the sea air accelerated the dreaded rust. A flatbed resolves this problem, hence my choice.
However, this review is to say just how impressed I am with this SHARP microwave in other areas. I’ve had this microwave 2 months so far, I will never go back to a turntable version, and Sharp has exceeded my expectations in all areas.
It’s a nice standard size but with great interior volume, cleaning is so easy that it’s done every time with a simple wipe with kitchen roll or towel, you can’t do that with a turn table in the way.
The settings are just easy to get along with and nothing complicated. Quick start is 30 seconds a push, a couple of taps and it’s great.
At 900w it’s getting two potatoes done in 8 min (12 if they are big ones) that’s 50% quicker than my turntable one so it’s more energy efficient and convenient.
It looks very good, quality materials used throughout, I think this will live for a long time. Its longevity increased by easy maintenance.
100% recommended, put simply, they have nailed it! This is definitely the one to choose (price / quality / ease of use)
I really needed a new microwave as I had a mishap with my 9 year old Tesco one.
I searched through lots of different brands and models and didn’t rush into it. Having read the reviews
on this model most saying how good it was I saved it for later and was lucky to get a price reduction.
The Flatbed is great. The Grill is powerful. It is very easy to use after a few reads of the manual.
I haven’t used a lot of the functions yet but I just know I’m not going to be disappointed
Worth purchasing
This is a great microwave. It is a flatbed, so no annoying turntable to deal with like my last one.
Its straight forward and easy to use with the quickstart button, which you can keep pressing to increase the time by 30 seconds, depending on what you’re heating up. It’s easy to clean and good value for money.
Microwave arrived in a timely manner, thank you. The unit itself fits nicely into my relatives kitchen. It is easy to clean and fairly ok in use. The child lock is frustrating and it’s a shame it cannot be disabled (Sharp, please note!). Another snag for my relative is that the printed areas on the face are too small for them to read, so have had to be written out and placed next to the unit.
We have found the grill is uneven and it is necessary to stand by it to keep moving the food.
Totally brilliant microwave.
So easy and looks really good and would NEVER go back to a microwave with a turntable.
Only use for minor things and was restricted for space so not a lot of choice as I wanted a flat bed.
Works really well and amazing on the extra space a flat bed provides.
Thoroughly recommend.
I have only had the microwave oven a few days it is very efficient on the microwave setting , the convection is excellent and the grill is an added bonus . I was initially concerned it might be to small as some of the 25 Lt capacity is lost because of the grill so the usable space is approx 22/23 Lt but I was able to roast a large chicken and place a large bowl in the oven with ease . My one grip is condensation is collecting at the bottom right hand corner of the door between the panels after using the oven for a longer period of time . The condensation evaporates quickly after use but only time will tell if this is going to be a problem .
Love the microwave but it was impossible to set the clock .I followed the instruction and so did my family but we all have up so the microwave blinks non stop so i switch it off until ready to heat up food. The shelf for grilling does not fit well so I take it all. Despite these 2 moans I am glad I bought it as it fits my large plates in and it heats my food up. Nothing should be so difficult such as setting a clock and

I consider myself intellige
Our microwave broke so we decided to take the opportunity to get a flatbed one. We wanted one that looks good as it has to be on display, wasn’t massive externally, was high powered and ideally opened from the left to fir better into the available space. 3 out of 4 ain’t bad, we couldn’t find a left opener but this fit the rest of the list.
It’s weird to look at something cooking in there and it not turning but I am sure we will get used to it.
Negative: the only thing I have found so far is that I have to be careful what I put in as some containers get very hot. I put a novelty Christmas mug in to reheat my coffee for 30 seconds. The cup handle was so hot it burned my fingers.
I wanted a flat bed model as i was tired of the glass plate slipping off and i could never replace it properly. That is exactly what I got.
The machine is great and works quicker than my old one.
Exactly what I wanted. Flat bed + quick start. You don’t need to press too many buttons to warm something up for 30 sec. Just turn the wheel and press. There are also many useful presets. Build quality is also good. I’m happy with my buy.
I like how smart it looks. I just needed a solo microwave that was easy to clean and found this is one of the better models out there. Having had this appliance only a day my review is doesn’t cover its longevity but has a few tips.
If you want the microwave to not budge when opening the door, I would invest in an anti-slip mat. Also the LED light looks like a normal incandescent bulb and is rather dim. I also struggle to make out the labels but no matter, there aren’t too many labels.
While messing with the buttons I found that there is a Mute function, which I accidentally activated by pressing the child lock button for 5 seconds. This is not spoken about at all in the manual that was in the box, however if you download the manual from manuals lib , it explains this and many other features like the mysterious Eco mode ( turns off the clock display – rather like a sleep mode on PCs ) There is a rather irritating safety lock mode which renders the controls useless after 1 minute inactivity until the door is open then shut. Despite these niggles, its a great microwave 🙂
What a great micro. Never had a flatbed before, strange not to have a turntable. BUT this is super, very easy to set up and controls easy to use. My nearly 99 years young mum finds it so easy to heat up her cuppa. Clock set no problem, grill function is good too. Arrived and set up in no time and s great price on Amazon 3 day deals. Would highly recommend. No going back to a turntable, tho the glass plate from old one useful.
Really good quality and I think also a good value for money, it has tons of features that make cooking food easy, it has a loads of power and really easy to use
Have had several turntable microwaves in the past and this is the first flatbed, in our opinion these are far superior, heats food right through (no cold spots) quicker and so easy to clean. Can’t compare this microwave to any other flatbed but it gets 5 stars from us.
Well for starters I do like it
But flatbed maybe you don’t realize not everybody knows what a flatbed is because at first I thought there was something missing.
And yes I know it may explain what the flatbed is but if you’re not familiar you’re just looking for a microwave
Anywho the only reason it doesn’t get full marks is it could be me but I find the vessel you put your product in gets a lot hotter than you would think.
So you do end up thinking your product is hot enough when it isn’t
So be careful when taking it ou
I purchased my last microwave in 2017 and the enamel paint on the base of the inside, mostly under the glass turntable, had started cracking badly. So I purchased this Sharp flatbed microwave, in the hope that the flatbed design would stop this being an issue in the future. And it definitely is much easier to dry out the flatbed after use, without having to remove a glass plate first 😉 The flatbed design also allow you to put bigger dishes/pans in and as there is no turntable, any handles do not go round and round.
But although it states that it has 14 automatic programs, it only has 8 auto programs on the front panel so to my mind, it only has 8 automatic programs.
If there is one thing I really dislike, it is that it has a Child Lock that cannot be permanently disabled! It gets temporarily turned off when you open the door. But if you have something inside the oven that you wish to heat for a another period of time, you cannot use the jog dial to set the time until you open and close the door again 🙁
Our just over one year old microwave had the paintwork start to fall off and so needed replacing. I have always liked flatbed microwaves as you can fit so much more in them and this Sharp model didn’t disappoint. Firstly it looks stunning, I love the design. It has an external handle to open the door which I much prefer to the push button type. The controls are nicely laid out and the dial to set the time is so much nicer than the push button type. The cooking results of this microwave have been great and everything cooks evenly. The fan noise is a little on the high side compared to others but not too bad.
The biggest plus point for me is that you can turn off all the annoying and over the top bleeping noises that all electrical devices seem to insist on these days. When the microwave has finished cooking it just stops and displays end to let you know it’s finished. So much nicer than lots of annoying bleeping.
In conclusion I really like this microwave and hope it lasts a long time.
I like the flatbedicrowaves as it’s gives much more room in the cavity. It’s simple enough to programme and has pre-set features. Nice looking black with silver trim. Good price for a flatbed
How liberating to have a microwave that doesn’t need a turntable! For years I’ve got so irritated when large dishes don’t fit properly on the turntable and you end up dislodging it. They’re also a pain to clean! This machine has huge capacity as a result of not needing a turntable. I also like the Auto Cook buttons, giving you options for perfect cooking of specific foods at the right power level and for the right time depending on weight (e.g. jacket potatoes). The smooth inner walls of the microwave are easy to clean. The overall design is slick and smart, and doesn’t take up too much space.
I think this microwave is really brilliant in terms of performance, always heats up food as needed. The functions of auto-defreezing also works really well. I personally don’t use other programs too often so can’t give my opinions on them.
The only issues I’m having are regarding the ease of use. The panel under the programs is really confusing, even simple things like changing time is very counter-intuitive. Also, I dislike the fact that you can’t specify an exact power (700W, 600W, etc.) but rather you select values between 10 & 100. Sure, you can look up the corresponding values either online or in manual but who would be checking it every time you’re using a microwave.
To sum up, it’s a good quality microwave but I only recommend it for people who are not bad with technology. My parents are struggling significantly with using this microwave while they have no issues with using their Samsung microwave at home, which is way clearer and easier.
This is a very good microwave which also has grill and convection oven facilities. I bought it because my Hoover microwave with grill started to rust badly on the painted steel interior after just a few weeks. I wanted a stainless steel interior. This microwave has a large stainless interior. It has no turntable so can accept larger items. Grill and convection oven are added benefits. Simple to operate. Has various combination cooking modes (microwave + grill, microwave + convection oven etc), and has a quality feel to it. Even comes with a grill tray and shelf. Highly recommended.
I am so pleased with this microwave. If is easy to use and being a flat bed there is no messing around with the baseplate every time you want to use i
ice but I am not sure about the presets. porridge setting is over 20mins. its very and I mean very noisy but easy to use and for the price and the convenience of a flat bed it gets 4 stars.
The microwave part works as usual but the grill thing isn’t my favourite. I noticed, the outside top of the microwave gets really hot. Probably nothing but it doesn’t fill me with confidence.
It’s a good product used domestically but the Time Setting Option didn’t work when I needed it. Thus I couldn’t set the correct time at the beginning of the British Summer Time. Apart from that, it works perfectly.
Having bought several sharp microwaves (not all for myself!) I would say they are the best and will buy more when needed.
All very good only downfall is the control buttons are difficult to use , have to press several times to get it to stop , or cancel as the symbols are close together takes several attempts !!!
Looks good, heats up better and defrosts evenly, unlike my last turntable microwaves no noisier than any other microwave I have had and you can turn off the bleeps. Its quicker and you don’t have the hassle of turntable. Great buy and I would highly recommend!
Quite unfathomable how some reviewers find using the features difficult and why they find it noisy. It’s a microwave, they make noise. I’ve had several different models and this isn’t noisier than any of them
its a beautiful item which matches my kitchen outlook, serve the pupose
my first flatbed was currys saisho some 40 years ago, nice to see them back
Needed a new microwave with grill as with my other the turntable stopped turning.
This is great as it is a flatbed so is without any turntable. It look great and the microwave part works very well. A bit disappointed on the grill though as you need to be careful using the included rack. Depending on what you are cooking it can burn whatever is on it. Would have been better to have either another lower position for the rack or a high to low setting for the grill. Solved it in part by placing a small oven tray on a cake tin which lowers it by a few inches.
Does everything it should! Looks nice and feels good quality.
My wife was very fussy when looking for a new microwave and finally chose this one. It’s not too complicated and has great features. She needed one that had at least 20l capacity and would fit on our counter. This did all that and more.
This is definitely a step up from our last supermarket brand 700 watt microwave.
Easy to use, very fast to heat at 900 Watts.
Easy to clean as it has no turntable.
Would recommend.
The design of this microwave is very sleek and good looking in my kitchen, It seems to work faster than my last microwave of the same heat level. This microwave is great value for the price.
Once I had unpacked it instructions were simple to understand and soon got it working
There is a slight smell as others have said, I’m presuming its cos it’s new. Does wot it says on the box
This microwave is very roomy ,easy to use and looks good.I would recommend it.Very pleased I bought it.
Very well packaged. Good value for money and being white is easy to clean as you can easily see if you have missed anywhere. It was slightly noisy but this was rectified by putting a sweety jar on the top. First rate at cooking/heating and defrosting food.
This is my first flatbed, and I don’t think I’d go back to a turntable. It is easy to clean and the non-stick lining is great and looks well made. Just a wipe with a soapy cloth. The microwave cooking seems uniform (I really use for ready-meals), and I can use larger and rectangular containers too.
This is also the first time that I’ve had an inbuilt grill and it is impressive with almost instant heat and cooking fish was quick and they browned nicely. Jacket potatoes are fast plus get a crispy jacket.
You can use a combination of microwave+grill and can select the proportion of each to be used and here the instruction manual is very useful. For simple microwaving it works so logically even a child could guess it, if they can overcome the child lock! Strangely, and cleverly, the control panel won’t work until you open the door, so little fingers don’t start it accidentally. (After the initial opening the controls work whether the door is open or closed).
A niggle, and I was about to return the machine because of it until I worked out what the instructions meant: the beep is loud and it beeps a lot. It will beep when the cooking is done and then beep every two minutes until you open the door. Poor neighbours! However you can mute the sound completely: open the door, press the child lock once, quickly, and “off” appears briefly. The downside though is it doesn’t tell you when the cooking has finished.
Overall, excellent machine, large enough for couples (bigger version available for families), it is compact, well made and I’d recommend it, even with the b**ping beeping sound!
Arrived promptly, easy to use and very effective. Good value for money. I would recommend.
Liked the compact size.
Outer shell is covered in plastic which has quickly become snagged on regular use buttons – already looking slightly dowdy!
Instruction leaflet not very comprehensive – have had to guess how some operations work!
This is a very good cooker its fast less electricity less time more money too save
High-powered and a good size. Big enough to steam a large bowl of vegetables.
Simple controls — you just turn one dial for the power setting and another for the cooking time. You can set it going, then adjust the power level or cooking time with no need to stop and restart.
What I like best about this microwave oven is its absence of annoying features:
* No beeping digital touchpad
* No pointless pictures of chicken legs, pizza slices or potatoes
* No clock to reset every time there’s a power blip
Best of all, it emits a single ‘ping’ when the cooking time has ended. My previous microwave oven would beep three times, then repeat at regular intervals, until I did something with it.
Whilst this is exactly what I was looking for, if you want to time your cooking to the precise second, this is probably not for you.
Good price but i’m not keen on the buttons. There is no feel to them and they are quite small. The main button (start +30 seconds) is already marked when it is pressed with your fingernail. Overall it is okay for the price but I would not buy this brand again.
We don’t want to roast chicken or cook a three course meal or having to enter weights and half a dozen functions to start cooking. This microwave does exactly what you need with two knobs, jacket potatoes, soup, milk etc. simply and efficiently sorted. Our last Sharp microwave lasted eighteen years.
It works and is easy to use. I personally don’t like that the metal case can move out of position when carrying this product. Also it makes a terrible slam sound closing the door. When running it’s quite noisy.
We wanted a no fuss microwave with straight forward dials, not fancy keypads etc. This fits the bill nicely. Several sizes to choose from including the one we wanted, works a treat, so simple. We showed it to our elderly parents, who bought one too, then my brother also bought one & all parties are happy. If you want a straight forward, no fuss microwave from a name you can trust, this one has got to be worth a try.
This was a replacement for an earlier model Sharp microwave which cooked quickly and evenly. Unfortunately a heavy window mesh and inadequate light made it impossible to monitor food being cooked so one couldn’t see whether milk was boiling over. It also had a clock which ran slow and couldn’t be read in bright light. This model solves these problems with a much brighter light (now LED) and an accurate and visible in all lighting clock/timer in a nice shade of blue. Cooking performance can’t be faulted.
Excellent product the only thing is the clock illuminates but the rest of the panel doesn’t so hard to see otherwise I would’ve gave it 5 out of five.
It’s straightforward to use although the touch pad controls can be temperamental. Also it doesn’t feel as solid as our previous microwave (a 900 watt DeLonghi) on which the door closed quietly but with a reassuring ‘clunk’, whereas the Sharp door closes with a very loud metallic ‘slam’ sound and the turntable is noisier. (I suspect both these issues are due to the metallic construction). Having said that, it cooks quickly and evenly and has a much larger interior enabling it’s use for larger quantities and bigger cookware.
It still represents excellent value for money and would be ideal for the larger household.
