I bought this to replace my 10″ Lenovo which I have had for several years and now has a broken charge port.
Although this Tab 6 8″ is not full HD like the Lenovo was, because it is only 8″ it has a very acceptable display with good brightness, colours and contrast. It has good touch responsiveness and what I do like is that it has a very simple interface GUI and no bloatware. Its OK for playing some simple games that are not too demanding as well.
The wifi is good and browsing with chrome was fine, had no stutter or lag and I like some of the settings such as dark mode and reading mode. I shan’t be using it as a phone so cant say how the sim side works. The battery seems to last well but in my opinion is let down by the charger itself as its only 1A, so not fast. To me that’s fine though as I have 2.1A USB charging ports built in on several 13A sockets anyway.
At the price I paid, 101.99 with a free case bundled in I am very happy with it so far. The only letdown was that the screen protector that had been pre-applied had not been applied well and had a few noticeable bubbles in it.
All in all I am pleased with the purchase and may now also buy one for my grandson.
We bought it for our little one. It works but slowly. A task like preinstalled Asphalt is too heavy for this device.
Did have an issue but product customer service resolved it.
Used this product to what’s app for my 98 year. Worked well
The screen is far too bright! I literally have it turned down to 0% brightness, and it is still too bright for night-time use. The amber mode is poor, yes, there’s some difference, but nowhere near as much as on my phone or KIndle Fire. Using the dark mode or grayscale settings weren’t what I wanted and didn’t help the brightness issue.
After using it for a few hours and getting all my apps set up, the brightness has given me a headache. i will probably need to return it. That’s a shame as it otherwise seems a good tablet.
Edited to add – decided to try again and found a wonderful free app — Twilight — that added more amber and fixed the brightness issue. Now I have all the noisy notifications switched off and the apps I want set up how I want them, I’m happy with the tablet. It’s great so far!
Screen colour could be a little better but I’m comparing this against a much more expensive Samsung, don’t let this put you off buying it. I would buy another if the need was there.
Great value, runs my drone, Satnav, sky tv and anything I’ve thrown at it so far well worth the money
I wrotBlakview Tab6 an affordable 8inch tablet who’s performance belies it’s price, if you’re looking for a small tablet with phone facilities I would recommend it.
It’s brilliantly sharp and clear, with sim card slot, works fine in UK, great value for money. Unusual to find an 8 inch tablet these days.
At first glance it was exactly what I wanted to replace my ageing Huawei. Screen good, responded quickly. Tried to fit a microSD (Kingston, followed by a Samsung) First it didn’t recognise them but after formatting it seemed OK. But after restarting it said the same thing. After reformatting both of them twice I gave up as each time restarting it wanted either reformatting again. During this time I noticed that the tablet was getting warm, not hot just warm. After removing the microSD it also seemed to be slower than before I tried to add either of the SD cards. Then it started to freeze for no obvious reason plus it got warm again, without any use on my part. I might have been unlucky as I was impressed until the SD card business started and things started to happen. Ended up returning to Amazon who acted quickly and efficiently. Following the above I was contacted by Blackview who said they would replace the item at no cost to me. That is what I call a first class after sales service. Well done Blackview.
I am writing this after a week of the tablet use. This is the first Blackview device I own, and I got an official Blackview trifold cover for it for free, as a part of the seller’s offer on Amazon. To finish with the cover, it is nicely made, lightweight, awakes the tablet, and can support it in two positions. What I especially like about the cover is that it protects the corners and does it not with the hard plastic but with the soft (elastic) one, which has a nicer touch.
The tablet screen is IPS and really bright. I keep it at 50% of brightness in daytime when in my bedroom, and at 30% closer to the sunset. In bedtime, I use the grayscale “reading” mode which is quite usable for videos, too, making everything look like 1960s French pop clips or Italian neorealism films; there is some charm in it. When in the grayscale mode, I push the brightness to the far left, to the very minimum, and switch on an additional amber light; I find this setting very comfortable and easy on eyes.
I tried it outdoors in a summer daytime, and it is usable if you are in the shade and push the brightness to 100%. In the direct sunlight, I could not see a thing, as even the 100% brightness was not enough for it, also the screen is glossy.
There are additional accessibility screen settings for those who need them, such as a few colour profiles that should be useful for colour-blind users; having this or that flavour of colour-blindness is more common than many think (more common among men than women), so having colour profiles should help then. You can handily switch between the default colour profile and an “accessible” colour profile of your choice if you swipe two fingers from the bottom of the screen.
Overall, with the excellent screen brightness, grayscale mode, additional amber light and accessibility colour settings, the Blackview did a very good job of caring about your visual experience.
Amazon Prime videos are OK; the black in dark scenes could be better, but it is better than on my budget laptop, all-in-all watchable. I installed a Kindle app, too, but it confirmed my suspicion that if you want a good e-book experience, you should get an e-ink reader. Whatever settings I tried, in the app and in combination with the tablet settings, I could not get the reading experience I wanted; the white-on-black mode was better than others but still not what I’d be happy with. Having this said, the Kindle app is fully functional and my library was synchronised in no time; so from time to time I may be using the Tab 6 for not-so-prolonged book reading.
Software is almost pure Android 11, with no clear promise of coming Android upgrade but I got two Blackview software updates, the latest dated as issued a month ago.
A good discovery for me was the WPS Office preinstalled; I tinkered only a bit with it but it feels like a good office suite compatible the Microsoft formats. The WPS PDF reader is simply amazing: you can re-format and mark-up on PDFs, although for large-format PDFs (I tried one downloaded from arXiv.org), despite they are readable on this tablet if you do not have any other screen at hand, you’d definitely want more space offered by a bigger screen.
Another pleasant discovery was a nicely made FM radio app pre-installed, with a clean sensible interface. I like FM radio and prefer its quality over the Internet translation, for the same stations. I have got three more devices with the FM capability and I can attest that Tab 6 gives better sound (over the decent wired headphones) for the stations with a strong signal than my other devices, including dedicated portable radios. Other radios can bring me more stations as they are more sensitive but for the stations with a strong signal Tab 6 sounds better.
My only (but quite serious) reservation about Tab 6 is its battery. I charged it for a while before the first use as recommended by seller on Amazon, I optimised everything I could, I played with settings like reducing brightness when I do not need it, but it will be fair to say I can get only six hours of life out of Tab 6, four devoted to video and two to Web browsing (roughly speaking). There is no fast charge, and getting from 5% to 100% takes four hours with the charger supplied.
There is no aptX Bluetooth codec on it, only a standard one, so do not expect high fidelity sound over Bluetooth, but if you use decent wired earphones (as I do) then sound quality is enjoyable.
This is a good mid range tablet. It handles general tasks well and reasonably quickly. The screen is very bright, so good for outdoor use, indoors it’s turned down to about 30% which is more than sufficient. The night mode is nice as it takes off that harsh glare. Battery life is a mixed bag and for average use would just last a day … So,a power bank would be needed for long use with a bright screen. The Android 11 OS is very good, I especially like the smart storage option. With a fast 64gb micro SD installed the smart storage placed supported apps on the card along with photos, videos and personal files. I would have liked more control, but do far all is good.
My only gripe is that the screen orientation is very slow to react, on occasions I have to tilt the unit so the screen is almost pointing down before it works.
Would I recommend this ?
Yes, for basic general tasks and surfing it performs well. Games ..
I asked my niece to try it out with games … She said it was laggy and screen responses not good enough …
Her actual verdict “pants” but OK for you – I don’t play games .
So, good for price, good build quality, battery a bit lacking and “pants” for gaming .
I relyed on reviews to choose this which were all positive & they weren’t wrong. This is a great quality tablet. Screen quality, battery life, ease of use are all excellent & processing is fast. All round winner. Recommended to anyone.
I wanted a new samsung 7″ tablet, but can’t seem to find one that is not as old as my last one (3yrs old). I compared this make to the Samsung and decided to give it a try as it was a little cheaper for the 8″ tablet. I don’t use my tablet for gaming, just mostly to store my E books, and access things like Sky GO and Prime video. This tablet copes with it all just nicely. Its really easy to use and seems to have all the features of the Samsung. Kindle works great on it, and so does the Kobo App. I access emails and browse the internet. This has just got a different way of accessing the menus, e.g hold your finger on the bottom of the page and you can access all the open screens and shut one or more down. It does not have the virtual keys at the bottom of the screen which Samsung has.
You can set your own wallpaper which I love to do from my photos, copied via blue tooth from my Samsung phone. It has an external SD card access, and you can copy/move/delete all the files in file manager just the same as the other model, and store APPS on it, freeing up space on your internal memory. It also supports OTG(on the go) which basically is just a way of viewing or loading things from a USB or other source. All-in-all I have found it to be great. and its has Nice outer case colours … I chose the rose gold one. Only drawback for me is I can’t find a screen film cover for it, and the outer cases are more expensive that finding one for a Samsung. Bigger screen is Nice, but Samsung had the same size too. Not dis-appointed at all with my change of make.
eeded a new phone as mine on the blink
trawled through Amazon, as I always do
this as at the right price for my budget
sound quality for my music was good
Phone voice/watsapp ok , but on MUsic it is Good
pictures good take more in sunshine today
selfie of use or watsapp ok, good enough for me
came with a free case, which is worth 5 not 19
but it was free as a bundle so cannot complain
size is about A4 page folded in half
so is that A5 if you have a student at home ask them
So for the price of a cheap phone you also get
a mini tablet
PSY video looks sharp and he is funny and fat like me
So just buy one
the plug for UK is throw in, not in the sealed box
so just bye one for Nan
But you’ll end up using it yourself
This tablet is great value for money. I mostly use it as a Kindle for which it is excellent but I have also added a microSD and can now also use it for my audiobooks and music library. Alongside TV apps it makes the perfect entertainment device, and all for a low price. Screen resolution and sharpness is good too. I would recommend this tablet.
Fantastic for the money buy a decent fast Micro SD and your away. It’s 4g,
YES you can make calls it’s brillia
It’s stock android 11, very little bloat ware and set up was quick and easy, the only downside is that it’s literally a phone version of A11 so certain features on some games can be an issue. Having said that it does game quite well
I was looking a Samsung 8inch and then I compared the reviews of the tab6 and they were better than Samsung. I’m really pleased It’s great, it’s up to date and cheaper. A great buy
(*please continue to read the amendments made at the bottom of this review) First impressions generally good, but didn’t seem able to move or hide the clock on the default launcher, and the tiles have too much space between them. I can find no way to change that so far. Would have much preferred vanilla android but can’t moan too much considering it’s price. Bought to replace a kindle fire HD 8, which wouldn’t install or run half the apps I wanted. Now those are bad tablets….half the price of this and half as useful, so Blackwiew is an improvement. In the past with my android devices I have had no problem installing something like “App to SD” but can’t seem to get any app to do that on the Blackview. I have some very large games installed that really would be much better on the SD. If anyone knows how to do this or what app worked for them please let me know. I may have to return this and get a tablet that will let me move my apps where I want them or at least allow the App to SD program to function. If you don’t have a lot of games taking up almost all the internal memory this won’t be an issue though. The other thing is even at maximum brightness set manually the screen still looks dark compared to any tablet or phone I’ve had. Bit strange, but probably saves battery. I prefer my screen a fair bit brighter than this tablet seems capable of. Still much better than the Fire HD 8, but seems to have its limitations compared to my needs. Finding the kind of case I like seems to be another non-starter. I don’t like the case they sell for it at all, and it’s horribly expensive at 20. I like the rugged plastic cases with a retractable kickstand and was surprised I couldn’t find one for this popular tablet model. If anyone can explain a solution to how I can utilise my external storage to include apps, and if its possible to somehow increase screen brightness beyond what seems to be maximum, and suggest a cheaper case that approximately fits, that would definitely increase my rating for this product.
* 24hrs later I have found solutions to almost all those issues. The screen brightness being low was because it seems dark mode was enabled either by default of by a mis-click on my part, though I did see another review with the same complaint.
The not being able to move apps to external was for two reasons; the first SD card I tried wouldn’t format properly in the tablet, and unless you root your tablet you simply can’t move apps that are flagged for internal storage. A new micro-SD card sorted this out, and I have now used to option to format that as “internal storage” which does indeed seem to extend the default internal partition in some way I have yet to fully work out. I did manage to move around 6GB of apps to SD and that’s currently a workable solution, though I do wish the tablet came with 64GB as an option.
The case I don’t like seems to be on offer as “buy tablet get case free” which I didn’t see when I bought it, so that kind of sucks for me, but I would definitely advise checking and sorting out the offer if you intend to buy the tablet as it probably won’t be around forever. I guess they just realised most people were not willing to pay 20 for a case and are sitting on a ton of them.
I still don’t like the default launcher, but it’s still definitely much better than Kindle Fires, which is frankly horrible and intrusive, with the entire focus being on selling you more Amazon products with apps and banners you can’t remove taking up most of the screen real estate.
This latest Fire resists any attempts to install Nova Launcher or Evie as persistent default alternatives which would have solved that problem nicely, but currently does not. They really locked the new version down as if it had the worst case of Corona in history.
Koudos to their design and software team of course, but considering all they have done is lose sales from the minority of buyers who would take the time and effort to flash a new rom, I don’t really see what they gain from doing so, unless maybe too many people screwed it up and they got duff return tablets in which case….yeah, ok. fair play. A monkey could have followed the instructions on how to root previous Kindle Fire’s, but perhaps some actually did and ruined it for everyone.
The reason I keep mentioning the Fire HD 8 in this review is because it has at least one definite advantage over the Blackview. It seems to have a significantly better processor that can handle the few demanding games it actually allows to be installed, without the battery starting to give off a hot sweat like it’s in a sauna cum microwave.
One of my most played games makes the Blackview get extremely hot even on low settings while the Fire runs it with ease, without me thinking I picked up a toasted sandwich maker by mistake. I had to discontinue playing it on the Blackview after a few minutes, even after lowering settings to “what am I looking at?!” levels, as not willing to risk damage to the tablet. Same game on Fire HD 8 and even in a case it’s perfectly cool and runs for hours. Like I said, I suspect the Fire has a superior processor and maybe better battery, but even if not, those are simple facts that I have observed in usage of both units. In an ideal, genuinely “customer centric”, world, Amazon would allow more apps to be compatible with their tablets, but for some reason they have never done so up till now, for… whatever reason they have. Probably just that some developers won’t pay to list their apps in Amazons locked down version of an app market, but that’s just speculation as I really see no other reason. Correct me if I’m wrong.
So in short both tablets have their advantages, and both are relatively cheap and useful for different things. Maybe they just want us to buy two tablets….
Very good quality and performance for the price. Decent size screen between laptop and phone. Latest Android software and very little bloatware. Good connectivity with wifi, 4g and Bluetooth. Pity there is no custom case. I bought a generic one but they are rather bulky.
l am delighted with this tablet. l am 87 and not very technically aware. However this tablet was easy to set up,. it was great to have an English type plug, once you worked out how to get the third prong out. it is lightweight and easy to hold. the screen quality is excellent and battery life is also very good. l use it for playing my games and emails etc. l needed to get away from Amazon Fire as they have so many restrictions, wont let you have Google not matter what you try. l would recommend this tablet as an all rounder. Price was excellent as well. one of the reasons l chose Blackview was my mobile phone is also Blackview and is excellent. Well done Blackview for an excellent Table
I’ve used this product for 2 and a half months and now I’m having issues trying to charge it. It looks like the charge port on the device is not man enough to keep plugging in the charge cable, and now it wont charge even with other charging options. Not sure if it is just the one I have but I will be contacting the supplier for another one or a refund.
I’ve contacted the supplier and they are fobbing me off, so will be escalating this.
Just had Amy from support at Blackview UK, who has look at my issue and is hopefully getting me a replacement, not just the Tab 6 but an upgrade to a Tab 8. If this happens, then they’re worth a 5 * rating
which I’ve just done.
Wanted it for emails and reading the Guardian newspaper online but still fits in a large pocket. Fulfills that 110%. I now carry it around with me nearly all the time so I am now thinking of buying a sim card so that I won’t need my phone hotspo
My eyesight is getting worse so this is a great smart phone /phablet.
The sound volume could be louder but I think that’s because I live on the outskirts of a cell tower area
Got it for my daughter to watch YouTube and play a couple of games. Didn’t want to spend too much but also didn’t want anything cheap that was going to pack in after a while. The tablet is really light and looks sturdy. Comes with a screen protector installed already which is good. Packaging is nice. Put it on to charge for a while and then had a little look around it. Wasn’t expecting too much but I’m impressed with how quick it is and how long the battery lasts. The image is great quality too. Really easy to navigate and overall a brilliant little device.
Great tablet, good size easy to use and comes with alot of apps pre-installed which was a bonus. good build quality and not been excessively used yet which is the only reason ive given battery life 4 stars as i dont know how well it would last under constant use
I had and tested different Phablets and different brands before purchasing Blackview Tab 6, This 8″ tablet is excellent, it has both tablet and phone functionality and work without any issues. Setting up very simple, WiFi i 2 channels both 2.4G and 5G,screen quality is acceptable and fine. Due to has 3G RAM so speed is fine,i hadn’t any problems for data browsing, quick and fast.Battery capacity is very good but it is not quick charge.Speakers audio level is fine, during 3 days of using tablet i couldn’t find any problems. The only negative point is that i couldn’t find any case cover specifically made for this model, but i have purchased from China and should wait for delivery. Inside package there is specific charger with UK plug, i am happy to purchase this tablet because has good technical specifications and price is not expensive, i recommend it.
Nice but not compatible with my drone returned for a refund
I bought this tablet just to listen to digital radio connecting it to my car radio via Bluetooth.
The tablet though closes apps after about 10 minutes automatically. I spent over a week looking online for a way to resolve this issue but I couldn’t find anything that worked.
Having to unlock the tablet and re launch the radio every 10 minutes was not a viable option for me, so unfortunately I had to return the device.
A very nice tablet which works very well. Unfortunately I had to return it because it was a little too small for my application.
Wow! Better than all ipad ,tablets it’s suit everyone! Easy quick set up. Battery is good! Easy for travel. Affordable price
Only had this for 2 days but so far, well made, pretty quick. I needed one that had at least a SIM port (it has 2 so you can add a mobile SIM and an extra memory card) so I could travel abroad and buy a local SIM. Also supports WiFi. For the price I am very happy with it. Like I say only had it 2 days, hopefully it lasts !
Really great product, need it to use cromecast for watching movie, linking it on my TV for better Quality. Since My Samsung Galaxy tablet A7 10.4 inc does not seem to connect through even when the Bluetooth is on.
Never thought the small size tablet is more friendly until bought this phablet. Must say this did replace most of my work on phones & tablets. It has an 8inch screen with HD IPS resolutions makes the presentation so clear & crisp. Bright & sensitive touch response makes the actions quick by 3GB RAM. This helps the battery to last longer, though it’s a phablet a large 5580mAh capacity battery is packed in. Having 32GB ROM can be extended to256GB SD card. The process does run cool even long hours use, and Android 11 takes good advantage of the processor. Have HD cam’s Rear & front for selfies or team meetings. With dual sim slot’s it’s the best phablet for the affordable price to have.
Overall love this tablet. Really easy to use perfect size- nice and lightweight! Performs really well with some great features so I’m very impressed! Would definitely recommend!!
Pros:
* Easy to set up.
* Expandable memory.
* Good battery life.
* Excellent price
* Bluetooth connection
* Makes a perfect gift for a child at an affordable price
* Game mode is great for gaming in peace
Cons
* Not much colours to choose
The smart phone/tablet has dual 4G SIM cards. You can use this as your main mobile phone or as a mobile tablet. My elderly dad is using it as his new mobile phone. He was finding his previous 6″ mobile phone screen too small to see. This bigger screen really helps with his use of the internet when he is out and about. This 8 inch screen as a high-definition IPS display giving great screen resolution and bright and clear pictures. The device has 3GB RAM and 32GB ROM which can be expanded with a micro SD card. It operates the latest Android 11 system ensuring everything is up-to-date. The battery size of 5580mAh battery is pretty standard and enough for most full day use. The Blackview brand is reliable from past experience and this is a great price for the specifications.
