VonHaus Cordless Telescopic Hedge Trimmer with Extendable
VonHaus Cordless Telescopic Hedge Trimmer with Extendable Reach, Hedge Cutter with Dual Action Blades, Electric Hedge Trimmer, 135º Adjustable trimmer Head for Hard to Reach Places, 2 Year Warranty
Works as required, very handy machine, the only small complaint is it feels rather heavy after a period of use, but I am 76 and the old arms not what they were.
This hedge cutter is excellent for pruning high shrubs and hedges but is clumsy when cutting below head height. This would be resolved if the handle could be connected to the cutting head be removing the pole. The other solution is to purchase the shorter hedge cutter then you will also have two batteries.
As other reviewers have mentioned, this is quite heavy to use. It did a good job trimming the tops of Laurel bushes but it was hard work on the shoulders and arms after a while. The strap wasn’t much use so I removed it.
The screw thread on the handle knob is unreachable and Domu refuse to help saying I have to return product to Amazon. As I have unpacked and used, that doesn’t really help me so am slightly out of sorts at the moment as not a cheap spend. Needs resolving.
Packaging was very over the top, the outer box was like a coffin!
Smaller box inside which contained the hedge trimmer. The item is as described and I found the instructions easy to follow.
The battery came fully charged which enabled me to get started right away.
I have not used it at it’s full telescopic capacity yet but found it easy to manage cutting the sides of a tall established and very long hedge.
As a reasonably healthy and active woman of mature years, I was aware of the weight but it was not an issue for me.
More about pacing the trimmer and yourself appropriately.
I would certainly recommend this product and wish I had got it sooner.
All good so far, arrived yesterday, so much better, and lighter, than corded (gradually ditching all my corded kit, should I sell or keep as spares? apart from Hayter petrol mowers) , instructions talked about tightening the knob to secure the trimmer, and also same for handle assembly, yet both are tightened by snap lever, one of which needed adjusting with an Allen key; you have to find out things for yourself. Some manufacturers do not update instructions when changes made to assembly details. Performance excellent and battery arrived fully charged.
Used in my garden to cut back laurels and bushes. Very effective on medium sized branches. A little heavy for prolonged use when fully extended but very pleased with i
I bought after having a petrol trimmer and a wired trimmer. I found these heavy and hard to manoeuvre. For the minimal use I have, this works perfectly. Cuts through significant bushes and small branches like butter. I’ve only used it a couple of times so can’t speak too much about battery life but so far so great!
The handle supplied was different to the one described and no fitting instructions are given. Worked it out eventually but apart from that no problems and works well.
Hedge trimmer arrived on time, well packaged and was easy to assemble. Battery had charge in it but I topped it up which did not take too long. Clear instructions and product was easy to use. Charge appears to last very long and blades cut all but the very thickest of branches. Only issue I had with the product is that even with shoulder strap you start to feel its weight after 30mins or so of usage especially when using it in extended pole positions. I have used product 3 times so far this year and still loving it as saves me lots of money not having to pay some one to come do it and my muscles get a short work out as well!
My only criticism is that it’s pretty heavy so your leading arm aches pretty quickly. Struggles a bit with thinker branches but generally works really well, much quicker than by hand!
Received today and put together after a minor struggle with a “stopper” in the tube that accepts the motor head to the rest of the pole. Initial impressions after 15 minutes use is that it is heavy and you need to get the maneuverability sorted out as you could end up with a strain / hernia! The blades are probably not long enough, but I’m sure it will manage the leyllandi hedge trimming and smaller jobs. Not for heavy duty effort.
Having now used the trimmer, I am very pleased with it. Does a good job. When extended it does feel a bit on the heavy side but that is to be expected. It is lighter than a different brand I had before. Generally very satisfied.
Bought this to help with cuuting high bushes and hedges as I am recovering from 2 strokes that have left me weak with restricted ability in movement. This does the job but is very top heavy with motoer being in the cutter head. Used strap and adjusted to give better support but fing the top heany weight difficult to use easily so need plenty of breaks. Nevertheless it is doing a good job with excellent battery life. If a few years younger and fitter would have no hesitation in recomending this product as value for money but regretfully at age 82 and slightly? disabled have to kark it down alittle bit. Shame as I was p[ining my hopes on this easily solving my high hedge problems.
Good product. Compared to the GTech I had before this had longer blade and haven’t had any jams like I used to get. Battery time good. Only downside is it’s pretty heavy. There is a strap but you can’t always use it. But it’s excellent value for money
Nothing wrong with this from the point of quality of manufacture etc but it was too heavy for me, a pretty strong retired lady. I managed to cut down the tops of roses on a tall 10ft pergola so for that reason it was excellent as it was the only way to reach without being impaled on thorns. So couldn’t do without it for a small specific job say half an hour and then not continuous, but was very glad to put it down. Would not be wanting to manage to hold it up to a tall say 8/10 ft hedge for any length of time (with regular large battery cutters on a 6ft privet I keep going for an hour or more) you would definitely have to pace yourself with this and do it in bits. I bought it for the roses on pergola and arches so fine for that – not too arduous.
Tall hedges. Great for reaching higher. Good cutting. We have the smaller one as well and good for different levels. Used by 74 year old lady, so easy to hold and manipulate. Interchangeable battery with the smaller one so could carry on while other charging.
It wasn’t enough for my neighbours that I scratched my Aston Martin’s RHS panels on some overgrown foliage on the lane meandering its way along the length of my garden for they prevailed upon me to trim the foliage on the basis that it was an eyesore. As if though their view was a material consideration to me. I am not one for halves. No, Sir! And so I browsed Amazon in search of the tool with which I would avenge the (until then) unblemished paintwork of Moneypenny (the Aston). I happened upon this item, noting that my unleashed savagery would not be constrained by a cable and so – with little further thought – I opined to purchase. The tool arrived quickly (the Amazon delivery driver commented, too, on how overgrown the trees in my garden were making the lane). Trying not to heed much attention to this individual, and still brimming with the insult done to Moneypenny, I put the saw together. The sky was dark. As I recall, it was cloudy and the sun had slunk away. With a furious ‘swoosh’ I attached the offending trees, removing their limbs (up to 1.5cm) and casting them down in front of my neighbours’ driveways. I danced with glee as the shrub that had shown the temerity to besmirch Moneypenny was sliced and diced, and with a loud whoop of joy I flung it back to the ground from whence it came. The battery lasted rather well, too – although I had to stop after 30 minutes of intense combat to recharge the unit, during which time I returned to the road to tell the remaining shrubs that it was to be their last few minutes on earth. I smiled to myself, knowing what lay in store. In conclusion, I am most pleased with my purchase. It is appropriately powerful and the telescopic reach of the extendable pole is a welcome advantage to the user. I suggest furnishing the blades with a light wipe over with oil after use to prevent rust so that there might be no impediment to the smooth cutting action returning to duty in future. Live long and prosper.
When I bought this the product description didn’t say whether the battery and charger were included—with some brands they’re not. But it was complete with them. I’ve used it a few times and it works well, the adjustable head is very effective for hedge tops.
I had the DeWalt hedge trimmer but it was heavy and not well made. This however is light and very well made. I put my 6amp DeWalt battery on to it lasts forever. Brilliant machine with plenty of reach!
Excellent value for money quick delivery lightweight manoeuvrable and adjustable to suit all situations with a good extension, fast charging and good life on the battery when in use.
For the price, this was decent purchase. The only negative aspect of the product is that once you insert the cutting blades into the very light handle, it can be a little top heavy especially if you have to use the telescopic part of the handle. Should be no problem for those used to heavy machinery, but at 64 years old this can get a little tiring after a while. The battery seems to last well even after 30 minutes of cutting so that was impressive but power to the blades just lacks that little bit more oomph to slice through those bigger hedge branches in one go.
For taking the top off a tall hedge, this is a good, affordable choice.
One little wrinkle that caught me out –the thing is delivered in two halves. There’s a plastic cap on one half that need to be removed before it’ll fit together properly. The instructions are a bit sketchyyou need to remove that cap before it can be assembled.
Also, you might need to tighten up some of the Allen keys before it’ll stop ‘un-extending’ itself every five minutes.
But those tiny issues aside, this does the job and is good value for money.
I bought this pole hedge trimmer and I really like it. The downside is it’s a little out of balance. Centre of gravity is a little off. The cutting head being slightly heavier. The harness is of little practical use, no matter where you try to position it I always get tangled up with the strap round my neck. It came with one battery which tended to run out before the job was complete. Two batteries would be better but a second battery would push the price up a fair bit. As it stands I think it was value for money, it’s a speedy tool best hedge trimer I have ever owned. All the chord attached trimers are too heavy for me now. And no more mishaps slicing through a hot electrical cable.
I was really happy with the power of the trimmer cutting through some quite thick branches and also the battery lasted until the whole hedge was finished. Also the telescopic angled blades meant I didn’t have to use ladders, the only downside is the weight of the trimmer it is on the heavy side so if you’re using it for long periods of time you get a good work out on your biceps!
Once you’ve put this together it’s reasonably well made. The instructions are poor & didn’t resemble the model I had. Don’t forget to remove the cap from the end the cutter snaps in to. Once the cutting head is in position the unit is quite heavy. Using the strap & handle I was able to trim a good size hedge. Working in short bursts is best for tired arms. Battery life is good & the trimmer gets the job done. Good value.
So, do you need a hedge cutter that cuts well and reaches high and at an angle, then this is your friend. 4* because the blade is so sharp, and even with thicker branches and patience, you’ll get through them.
Now my objections. It really couldn’t have been difficult to design it such that the distance between the blade and the handle could have been 1/3rd of what it is now – and with the extensions there are now still offer the option to reach very high hedges. The weight is divided so absurdly now, that even if though it is lightweight in terms of weight, due to the ridiculously long pole that cannot be shortened, the distribution of the weight means it functions way heavier than it needed to be.
The reason that I didn’t return it, besides being past the return date, is that the blade is so sharp, and thus it is so quick to cut the (lower parts of the) hedge, and I only have one hedge, I can handle the weight and I’m tall (re the weight distribution of the tool). Would I have had many more hedges, I’d have needed to buy a separate small hedge cutter for the close cutting, which would have been a waste of resources of course (if this simply would’ve been designed better).
Anyway, the hedge is cut, and I suppose that is what matters in the end.
Good hedge trimmer, not quite powerful enough to cut through some of the thicker branches of the dense hedgerow in my garden so I still need to call a specialist in to get through the thicker branches high up. Will be more than adequate for most hedgerows I should imagine.
This works well on bushes and small branches, battery life is excellent but can feel heavy and awkward at full extension. This can’t be avoided as it has a decent motor on the cutting edge therefore relatively heavy and an excellent two metre extension . If you can manage the weight this is a good product for its cos
This is an excellent product. It came in double quick time and in perfect condition. The assembly instructions were clear and easy to follow and within a short time I had it ready to use. A nice touch, as a previous reviewer also mentioned, was that the battery was fully charged on arrival and gave me a full 60minutes of use before needing a recharge. I have already used it to trim two tall fast growing shrubs in double quick time, compared with my old corded trimmer. I really like the ease with which you can extend and shorten the pole and adjust the angle of the cutting head to suit the bush you are trimming. Much has been said about the weight of these type of products in the reviews of this and other similar products. Yes,when the pole is fully extended the weight is more noticeable at the top of the pole. However, if you follow the instructions carefully in regard to use of the body strap and handle it’s not too demanding. Indeed the cutter is so efficient that I found I had completed each section of my shrubs before I needed to stop for a rest break, which a big plus point when you are getting on in years! If you take it in short bursts then you shouldn’t find it too taxing on arms and shoulders. I have bought products from this company before and have always found them of good quality and excellent performance.
Good and works well, but I find it heavy so can only use it for a short while, but a man would probably find it easier with there natural strength, Does work well and cuts through some quite thick branches too.
This trimmer does the job of keeping my high Red Robin and laurels neat on top. It cuts fairly thick twigs and battery lasted between one and two hours before I finished the job with more charge to spare. I wouldn’t say it’s particularly light but what effective cutter on a long pole not give your shoulders a good work out.Having said that I am 61 quite fit and 6 foot tall. I was able to use this cutter whilst standing on a step ladder and reaching across the top of a two meter thick hedge so it’s not that heavy or awkward. Good replacement for my corded cutter which was more cumbersome.
First of all, I’m 76, male, and not particularly tall, strong, or energetic. The hedge I need to trim is about 3m high, and is situated behind some shrubs and bushes, which I don’t want to damage. So for the most part I can’t just set the blade at right angles to the pole, stand close to the hedge, and skim along the top. Also, the blade isn’t quite long enough to reach the entire width of the hedge, so it tends to leave some of the growth at the back uncut. I don’t find the shoulder strap much use, but the two handles are well made, comfortable, and help to give good control.
The degree of flexibility in setting the angle of the cutter is excellent: 15 degree steps, making it possible to stand back from the hedge and cut with the pole at various angles whilst the blade remains horizontal. Using it like this means you can’t reach as high though, so for me this necessitates using a small stepladder, which is probably not the safest way to do it. By taking a rest from time to time, I can get the job done without too much hassle.
Overall, the trimmer seems well designed and made, is easy to put together, and has enough power and energy stored in the battery for my needs. I’m just a little concerned about the robustness of the head angle adjustment, which is plastic and a little “notchy”, and feels a bit fragile. Hence 4 stars, not 5. But generally, a good buy.
15th May 2022
My concern over the head angle adjustment seems justified. Yesterday the head had become jammed in one position. I unscrewed the cover, treated the moving parts with WD40, and, with some difficulty, reassembled the head. Voila! It works again! BE CAREFUL if you try this, it took me quite a while to figure out how to refit the spring loaded buttons in exactly the right position so that the cover would close properly, and the buttons move freely.
I spent the whole winter searching for a long reach trimmer that would suit my needs. I have a large garden with various established bushes, including elaeagnus, laurel, conifers, boxes, yew, etc. I am also a small build female in the early 40’s that obviously love gardening, so finding the right trimmer was my big project.
With all that in mind, I excluded petrol trimmers due to a heavy weight and the electric trimmers as did not want to drag cables and extensions behind me. The cordless trimmer was the only option. Having read dozens and dozens of reviews I decided to go for the VonHaus (Bosch was second two on my list). Well, I have to say that so far it continues to amaze me!
It arrived with the fully charged battery, which I did not expect, so did not even unpack the charger before the first use. Set up was very easy and the instructions were very clear to understand. I then played with it and adjusted using a supportive strap. Within 40 mins of a constant use I managed to trim the low hedge of boxes, 2 x 1.7m tall elaeagnus bush , both sides of the yew hedge (1.7m tall and 10m long) and one side of the overgrown neighbour’s bush, which was not pruned for the last two years and there were some woody and thick overhanging branches. It took few seconds longer to get through those branches but the trimmer did it without any complain! I did not try it on the laurels yet but that is the job for the next time and I am very positive there.
With the use of supportive strap I was able to spread the weight equally so did not feel the trimmer’s heaviness as much. I found it well balanced and think that anything lighter would be too flimsy. Ability to flex and extend the blade head in both directions allowed me to target the bushes at different angles without me bending. After all that there was still a little bit of battery left. I am relieved to have so much work done within such a short period of time. These jobs used to take me hours while using the shears and my arms and wrists used to ache!
So far I cannot fault the trimmer and at this point would definitely recommend it.
I run my own small part-time gardening business and have spent months researching extendable hedge trimmers. I have several hedges to trim four or five times a year of various heights and thicknesses. I did not want to get into ladder work so needed to look for something else. I’m one of those annoying people who will read every review they can get their hands on and trawl the internet, watch YouTube reviews and visit garden centres. I also did not want to rely on a power cable as sometimes my customers are out and aren’t able to give me access to a plug. That meant either a petrol trimmer or cordless. Unless you are going for one of the higher-price brands the petrol variants were not viable (too many poor reviews on the cheaper models).
I looked at as many cordless extending trimmers as possible knowing I wanted power, longest reach and lightness of use. The VonHauss seemed to fit the bill.
So to the trimmer itself … when you remove it from the box for the first time lay all the parts out on a clean flat surface and familiarise yourself. Firstly take some time positioning the shoulder strap holder and the front hand guard. Both can moved to various locations so move them around. Put the shoulder strap over you head and arm and adjust the length until comfortable. You can then practice putting the bottom section on and off the strap until it feels right. Before you attach the cutting head remember to remove the small plastic cup protecting the electrical connectors. The head then slides easily on and off the main unit. Take the base unit off the strap and lay on the floor before connecting the cutting head. I would suggest then balancing the cutting end on bin or low fence whilst you connect it back onto the shoulder strap. Practice a few times so that when it comes to adjusting the angle of the cutting head or extending the pole you are well versed in taking the whole machine on and off the clip. It takes some getting used to managing the cutter at full extension but after a while you do get used to it. The secret is to get the strap to take as much of the weight as possible so your hands and arms are just guiding the cutting edge.
The VonHaus seems powerful enough and the battery works well – long lasting and charges in an hour. I bought a second battery as recommended in other reviews as a backup (good idea). The blades cut well and the machine feels extremely well built. The colours are a bit garish but that stops you from tripping over it whilst it is on the floor. The only negatives for me are the dead-mans trigger which can hurt the wrist after a while and getting the whole machine as comfortable as possible whilst extended. I may look at buying am additional three point harness to even out the load. I am 52, 5’10” and would class myself as having a good fitness level.
By the way – I bought this machine myself – I’m certainly not sponsored by VonHaus.
Will update the review in six months time after the spring & summer season.
Works as required, very handy machine, the only small complaint is it feels rather heavy after a period of use, but I am 76 and the old arms not what they were.

I’ve used a couple of more expensive cordless hedge cutters and this comfortably compares to those and a fraction of the price.
Good battery life, easy to maneuver, good angles and very easy to use.

Light hedge cutting good reach but wide hedges still require getting up a ladde
An instruction manual for a different machine was enclosed.
The correct manual is downloadable from the VonHaus website.
Quiet heavy & cumbersome for someone petite like me, but still a good produc
Works well, battery lasts for average days use. Downside, a bit on the heavy side to use in long stints. Recommended.
