Clogs up easily and then difficult to remove the plug of soil. Maybe my soil is to much clay.

The Walensee Bulb Planter makes easy work of making nice uniform holes for planting bulbs or small plants. I’m getting old enough that getting down on my knees with a trowel is a good way to end up with a sore back for a couple of days. This bulb planter makes it so much easier – line it up, step on it (I have plenty of weight to help with the task!), and pull a plug from the ground. Ready to go!

Works well, though clay soil unsurprisingly is more reluctant to come loose afterwards than dryer and more crumbly soil. Still, there’s truth to “the right tool for the right job” and this does just what I wanted it to.

I have actually used this “bulb” planter to remove some weeds, plant my vegetable starts, and of course – plant bulbs.

It is super easy to use! I hate having to bend over to dig in the dirt with a little shovel, or digging up way more dirt then necessary with a bigger shovel.

With this, you just press down with your foot and get a nice hole to place your bulb or plant. If you need a bigger hole, you can do it 2 times right next to each other – which is what I did for some of my starts that were in bigger containers.

To release the dirt, just flip it upside down. Sometimes a little tap is necessary, but usually it just falls right out.

I did take off a star. I accidentally left it out in the rain and it got VERY rusty very quickly. It hasn’t effected its use yet, but I have a feeling it won’t last as long as I wanted it to. I didn’t realize the inside wasn’t coated like the outside is, and the inside of the barrel is where most of the rust formed.

Given the nature of this product, I don’t think it would have taken long for it to get rusty whether I stored it in my shed that day or not. But proper inside storage may help extend its life a bit. I wish the inside had the same coating as the outside to make it last longer.

This was easy to use after I figured out that you needed to start at an angle and press down a little before standing it up. After that all I needed was something to get the dirt plugs out of the shaft.

Love this. I planted a ton of bulbs this spring and this made it much easier. I’ll use it again in the fall

Super easy to put together. It is sturdy so you no worries of it breaking as you step (stomp?) on it. The tool goes fairly easy into the ground and the dirt is easy to get out. I used it the last 2 days to plants annuals, and it made the chore so easy. I will use this to plant bulbs in the fall. Recommend.

I think this is a must have for any gardener. I recommend this product to others.

Great garden tool that can be used for planting bulbs but also for planting just about anything. I have also used to aerate my lawn – the plugs are a little bigger than they need to be for aeration, but t still works very well. The assembly was quick and the planter is nice and sturdy. Helpful.

This takes out pretty large plugs – larger than I need in most instances – they are about 2″ wide I think. The whole unit is made of metal and plenty sturdy. Putting together was easy and it includes the wrenches that are needed. It is much easier if you provide your own though.
The unit has 2 rings that go on the end of the plug part. They are different sizes and one goes on about 2″ up the shaft and the other about 4. Without the rings, the unit will pull about a 6″ plug or maybe a tiny bit more. I had more issues getting the 2″ size to work. The 4″ or not using the collars seemed to work more consistent..
The plugs stack inside the tube as you pull the next one. Flip it upside down to get them out. It’s simple but effective.

Easy to assemble and very sturdy, I think this is gonna do the trick! I have more than 300 bulbs to plant this Fall and with this tool I should be able to make all the holes in under an hour and without much mess. They are nice clean holes and your desired depth, and the dirt just comes out the top as you go.

WaLensee makes high quality gardening tools! I have a hand tiller from this brand and it is fantastic so I didn’t hesitate to get this bulb planter. Nice quality, should last a long time. The handle has grips on it that make it easy on the hands to use. The spacers make it easy to dig a 2 or 4 inch hole without the worry of measuring. All around a great product. I highly recommend it.

This worked for the most part as long as the dirt was soaking wet. If your dirt is dry, this will not work at all. It has foot pegs on it ((kinda looks like a pogo stick) that help you push it into the ground. The tube starts to fill up with dirt every time you dig a hole so try and empty it after each hole or you are going to have a hard time getting it out. Also these come with 2 different sized rings that fit around the bottom to control the depth of the hole. They worked decent but would come off every time I emptied the dirt out of the tube. It was kind of a pain. I wish this had an internal lever that helps push the dirt out. It worked decent enough for planting small bulbs. I would recommend it.

I have a Kentucky Bluegrass lawn which spreads over time to fill in gaps and thin areas. The benefit of this is that you can take small cutouts of your lawn and transplant them to another section and it will slowly spread to fill in that spot. And the old spot will also get filled in well over time. There are several different tools to help accomplish this, but this Walensee Bulb Planter Lawn and Garden Tool is a great option. It is more affordable than some of the competition, but still made with high quality metal and is easy to use. It can be a bit difficult to insert it into the ground, especially if it is rather dry, but with some twisting, you’ll get it. It is adjustable in terms of how deep of a cut you want and also works great for planting bulbs. I’ve had great success with improving bare areas of my lawn with this tool and highly recommend it!

This bulb planter arrived yesterday just in time for me to get some good use out of it today! It was really simple to assemble, however the bolts wouldn’t tighten all the way (didn’t affect use). It’s made of heavy duty metal and the handle is comfortable and easy to grip. So much easier and faster than getting down with a hand tool. The foot posts are a huge help for getting into tough ground. To empty the dirt out, you need to flip it over. I think adding some kind of pusher to the top of the tube would make things easier to eject the dirt. Overall, this is a must have for anyone that will be planting bulbs/other plants or digging up stubborn weeds/old plants.

This is a really well designed and built device. The metal is a heavy gauge but only time will show how well it holds up to moisture and dirt.
Assembly is easy. The shiny metal discs fit on the tapered end allowing you to plant 2 inches or 4 inches deep.
It would have been helpful to have a way to push out the plug of dirt from the tube. Tapping firmly should shake it loose but if you have clay soil, it may build up rapidly.

    Sturdy and well designed

I have dwarf mondo grass in my yard that I am trying to move. This tool works way better then a spade or shovel. this is a slow spreading plant so planting it in small clumps close together works best. With this tool I can taker small sections out of the area that is fully grown and then replant the plug elsewhere. My husband filled a bucked in 5 min. Then started making holes for me in the dirt where I was planting. He then took those dirt plugs and popped them in the 1st holes while I planted the grass. This saved so much time!

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThe bulb planter requires some light assembly. It does come with two hand tools to secure the bolts. In addition to the bulb planter and handtools there are also two stops. There’s a 4 inch and a 2 inch included.

There is no release for the dirt, I have found through trial and error the best way for me. You can push something through to make the dirt come out or I have found it easy to turn it upside down and give it a quick, firm bang on the ground. The dirt plug pops out. I also have found that it’s easiest to work in the area once it’s rained. Even a little bit of rain has helped in my endeavors. Of course this will just depend on the ground and how hard it is at baseline.

I am pleased I got something that is easier to dig bulb holes. It’s hard to get even 4 inches sometimes by hand. But being able to step on the planter makes it a quick and easy job. I have much more strength in my legs and whole body versus my hand. I can dig many at a time without having wrist cramps. I have also found that it’s good for removing weeds. I am able to really get deep into a dandelion and pull it out of the ground then replace it with something else.

This is a sturdy tool and one that does the hard work for me.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI bought this to help plant grass plugs in my very stony yard. It is steel and very sturdy, allowing you to push into the dirt firmly and it removes the plug of dirt easily. Made quick work of this task. I will use this when planting my bulbs this fall, which I could never do with just a shovel and kneeling down as with this tool you can stand to remove the dirt pugs. So easy!!

This bulb planter tool is stronger than I was expecting. I haven’t used it yet for planting, but the test holes I made were fairly easy to do, and much easier than getting down on my knees and digging with a hand trowel.
This tool has a slightly tapered cutting end, that allows the smaller sized plugs to slide up the inside of the tool and expel from the top of the tool. If it weren’t for the tapered cutting end, the plugs would likely be difficult to remove.
Nice design and it looks like a garden tool that will last a lifetime.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI couldn’t fit the bolts properly even with my own tools.
    Regardless the planter worked well.
I used the 4 inches ring to plant some tulips. I need to dig some more, but it made the work easier.
Since its size is quite bulk and 4 inches is not that much, I would recommend this only if you are planting many and many things at various times of the year.
In my case, I got this for review, but I would not purchase since I only have a small patch of land that I can plant only once a year.

Does the job and makes planting easier than I tought.

Makes planting so much easier if you have a hard time getting down on your hands and knees. I like that I can make a perfect depth hole to plant my bulbs or my small plants. It does also work well for removing weeds from my garden. It has a sturdy feel and easy to grip handles.

Needed to plant lots of Tulips. It did make the job much easier. We have clay soils and it still worked in the tougher soils, but is great in regular dirt. Nice and handy garden tool. Very sturdy.

This is a game changer. With reasonably soft soil this pushes in well to create an open hole that is perfect size and depth for bulb planting. Compact and easy to store.

Easy to put together, everything provided! I was stumped by the 2 metal rings until I noticed the markings! Smart!!
It’s raining here heavily today and I will not be able to use this tool but it definitely looks like it will work for me very well!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI ordered this Walensee Bulb Planter to easily dig holes so that I could install Sentricon termite baiting stations around the perimeter of my home and was very pleased with how easy it was to assemble and use.

The package includes everything you need (hardware and two wrenches) to attach the handle to the tube. I appreciate the manufacturer including a full color instruction sheet illustrating how things should go together even though you can easily figure things out without it. Also, there is a lot of information in the Amazon listing that is not included in the product you receive so, you may want to print out the listing and store that information away for future reference.

After 2 years of paying a termite exterminator service $275/year, I cancelled the contract since we had no signs of termites but planned to just leave the bait stations in the ground. Two weeks later, the extermination company came out and removed all the Sentricon stations that I thought I owned (so, my $550 was rent?) Ok.

Next I ordered a box of 28 Sentricon bait traps off eBay for $240 — Note: these are exactly the same as what the extermination company uses — and this Walensee Bulb Planter. If I could not locate the original hole, I used this bulb planter to easily dig new holes that were wide enough but about half as long as the Sentricon traps. If my clay soil were soft enough, I just pushed the bait trap into the ground the rest of the way or used a broken shovel handle and a hammer to make the hole deep enough for the trap.

This bulb planter worked very well for me as I installed more Sentricon bait traps than the exterminator service did and still have a few left as spares. I also used the bulb planter to pull out a few dandelion plants and it did a great job with that as well.

To “unload” it, I just turned the bulb planter over and plugs of dry clay soil easily fell out. Wetter soil required me to shake the bulb planter a bit or push the plug out with a stick.

Overall, I am very glad I ordered this Walensee bulb planter since it made my task much easier.

Hopefully, this review was helpful to you.
