It does the job really well. It is easy to use – big enough but not too big.
I have been putting this shredder through hell shredding heavy wall paper and cardboard. It does the job with no problem.
My only negative view on it is that the detection of paper is at a specific point so you need to make sure the paper you put through covers that point. It is usually not an issue when shredding papers and still deserves 5 stars in my book
Nice and sturdy and is just the job. Not able to shred 14 sheets at a time though but 5 or 6 is no problem if you don’t want to burn it out or get it jammed up. It does last a while before overheating though and the fan cooler comes on to help with that. Good purchase for a home office
Best shredder I’ve had very sturdy and doesn’t keep overheating like cheaper brands
Worth the little bit extra we paid. works for an hour without stopping. Much better than the previous home shredder we had.
Shreds up to 14 pages, and cardboard – just what I wanted for our hot composter. Very happy it does what it says.
I’m pleased with this. It’s solid and works well for home and light working from home use.
Very easy to use but will only shred about 7 sheets at once
Anymore and it jams
Love my new shredder, great value, but with hindsight probably purchased their micro cut shredde
I got fed up with the cheaper ones and the mess when emptying them so this is a nice step up. A bit noisy but very efficient and sturdy mincing up papers, disks and old cards.
This shredder has worked hard and I’ve only had it two days, it chomps through many pages, it slows as it torques through the thick stuff and after a while it’s cooling fans will fire up. So far it’s a keeper and to be honest once the back logs cleared it will work far less, seams worth the money
I bought this shredder because it matched all the things I wanted a shredder to do. I’ve only used it twice, but my first impression is it does exactly what it said and more. I had a carrier bag full to the brim of old paperwork and it took about an hour over two days. Highly recommend
I bought this shredder to dispose of a large amount of files and drawings following retirement. So far I’ve found it very efficient , shredding up to 14 sheet of A4 at a time in a reasonable time to destroy files. Decent sized bin which is easy to empty.
Highly recommended.
Excellent piece of kit, this replaces a cheaper shredder that did not last 2 minutes before the plastic spacers between the cutting teeth broke. This Bonsaii shredder has already completed the job the other failed on.
It seems to have a slower stronger start up and a slight pause between changes of operation, which makes you think nothing is happening or something is wrong. So just let it do its thing, just wish the bin was bigger, got through 2 black bin bags full of shredded paper with no problems or thermal cut-outs.
When you see the paper in the small window you best empty the bin as it stops it being dragged back in to the cutters and you have to clean it up.
If you overload the shredder it stops, waits a few seconds and then reverses automatically to take the load off and you can get the extra paper out. I noticed that in the questions section on the sellers page, somebody said it did not come with the casters, mine did and were taped down inside the bin and are a push fit in the base of the shredder so no tools required.
It’s relatively quiet, easy to empty plus is on castors so can easily be extracted from under the desk.
This shredder does exactly what it says it does.
It’s like a monster of shredders keeps running
for 40 minutes as stated never jams up just
right weight has casters on bottom to move
it. What a buy you will not be disappointed
just how many sheets it shreds in 40 mins
Best shredder I have ever brought. Not noisy either
so 10/10 all round. Waste paper beware
I returned the first shredder after noticing some damage when I opened the package, so I was really disappointed and a bit hesitant about ordering a replacement. However, I shouldn’t have worried, as the replacement arrived very promptly and in perfect condition. I have been happily shredding ever since! It’s very quiet compared to my last shredder and definitely shreds more than the usual couple of papers. I would definitely recommend this product.
Easily handles the long sessions shredding my old records. Shreds many sheets at a time quietly and it doesnt over heat.
So much better than cheaper shredders that shut down after 5 minutes and force you to wait 40-60 mins before working again.
I like the tall bin it keeps all the shredding in place, it is easier to empty, I like that it has wheels and can be easily moved. The noise level is much quieter than my old one it shreds well and can cope with several sheets in one go. Overall neat and tidy, reasonable price efficient and practical. Would recommend for all in a small office or for domestic use.
This is an excellent shredder, I had a garage full of historic files and decided it was time to clear it.. the old shredder I had overheated after a files, was slow and eventually packed in.
Brought this and it is a mini beast, flies through the shredding, An example emptied a four draw filing cabinet, full of files packed with A4 paper thick and thin paper clips plastic folder etc. It did not stop.. no overheating eat through the lot.. Very impressed
Having had a Fellowes shredder for a good many years that worked very well, until it ‘died’ – we wanted one that was capable enough to compare with the strength of the previous one. This we found with this one that had a longer running time, was quieter, and was compact in size, but not in the power to do the job, and is also nicely designed.
Very impressed, and would definitely recommend it!!
So my household’s previous paper shredder – which was very cheap – went out with a bang… literally. It exploded and caught fire. Not a fun time, I can assure you.
This was an alarming experience, so I opted for this more deluxe unit as a replacement. It shreds paper finely and can apparently shred paper clips, staples and credit cards – although I’ve never tried this. But if you want a shredder that can sustain continuous use without catching fire, here’s your huckleberry.
This is a brilliant shredder, that doesn’t disappoint. I’ve been clearing out my old office and have boxes and boxes of papers to shred, this shredder works a treat, it’s never overheated or tripped out after all day continuous use. I’ve got two other shredders that overheat and stop after half an hour at the most hence the reason for this latest purchase. Buy and you won’t be disappointed, tremendous value for money.
Fast delivery and great quality shredder. Easy to set up and use and is surprisingly quiet!
This shredder is quiet and efficient and runs for a long time before the thermal cutout operates. An excellent product.
Use a shredder quite a lot. This item replaced a cheaper machine and has proved a great and reliable improvement. The lift out waste bin is also a plus point and I have no hesitation in recommend this shredder in every way.
Have not used it a lot yet but it seems very quiet compared with my previous shredder and it shreds efficiently
Good quality, easy to use, fairly quiet and most importantly great shredding into small pieces.
Very pleased with this recent purchase. Easy to use and to empty. Does the job well.
Good value. No problem shredding large amounts of paper in one go.
Bought for small office, great product. All other shredders work for 10 minutes, the fan in this allows you to use it for much longer. Can’t recommend highly enough
I have been decluttering the house and lots of paperwork to shred. It’s the nest one I have ever bought.
great shredder that chew paper and cardboard. Basically f it fits in the slot it will shred it.
Nice gadget, large tray and easy to empty, easily does cardboards, will buy again.
This is an excellent shredder. We have been using it a lot since we bought it and have had no issues. We have shredded paper and cardboard and not had a problem. I would recommend it to anyone.
It is easy to remove the container of shredded paper and empty it. the warning light comes on if you try and shred something it is not designed to do.
Ordered around 3pm Friday, delivered 12 noon Sunday so delivery time excellent. Has been used twice but so far so good
I wanted a shredder that was mid-way between a small one and a really heavy duty one. This will shred 14 pages, although it is recommended you only shred about 10 pages at once. It seems to work fine.
My other shredder was getting past its sell by date, as it stopped shredding into bits. This one is brill, a lot quite than my other one and holds a lot more. Should of bought this months ago.
Powerful shredder with good capacity and able to process small staples.
Relatively quiet when compared to previous models we have used.
Compact in size and simple to empty with pull out bin
Great value for money in our opinion.
We have been limping along for a number of years with a shredder less powerful than this and which needed regular rests. This is much better. Shreds really well and I can do more at a time. I don’t put multiple sheets in at one time as I know from experience that it just leads to it all clogging up and over heating. Easy to empty and like the fact you can see through the front how full its getting.
I am very impressed with this shredder. It shreds quicker and keeps shredding for longer than any shredder I have owned. My previous rexel used to shred for maybe 10 mins and then shut down for 20-40 mins to cool down. This one just keeps going, I have shredded for over 30 mins and it didn’t shut down at all – I think the fact it has a built in fan to help exhaust the hot air helps a lot and I am surprised most other shredders do not have this feature.
Works well although be sure not to overfill the box otherwise when you empty it a lot of paper shreds end up on the floor.
This is a good machine. Does a few sheets at a time although I wouldnt risk doing the maximum it says. Its fairly noisy and the noise does carry on for a few seconds after you have finished unless you turn it straight off. Drawer pulls out for easy emptying, just make sure you push it it at the bottom of the drawer or the light will flash. I have a bag in mine to catch the bits so not sure if this is why put pushing it at the bottom seems to fix it bette
A quiet shredder at last! And one that works for a decent amount of time without overheating. Bought for household use. Shreds well and easy to remove bin to empty. Purchased the oil to clean it as find this does prolong life of any shredder. Helpful shaped nozzle to make oiling simple. Would recommend both shredder and oil.
I am a private user but do a significant amount of voluntary work for charities and need to destroy names, addresses, etc.
Previous shredder came to bits internally and screws dropped in the cutters. Not worth repairing. This one seems to do what is on the tin. and has not jammed at all in the few weeks I have had it. Slightly noisier than I might have wished for but not a bog issue. Removable bin is good – n lifting off of cutter head with bits dropping everywhere, Provided it is emptied before full it can be emptied with no mess.
Not top rate security size pieces, but adequate. Feed slot not as wide as some a 10 – 20 mm more would have been better.
Generally very happy with it.
This Bonsaii C169-B is an excellent shredder. It’s very easy to use. I know that the perception of noise is a very subjective matter but, to my ears at least, this shredder is not particularly noisy.
It can handle it’s stated maximum capacity of 14 sheets without difficulty. However, the advice in the manual is to shred no more than 70% of its maximum in order to maintain its vitality and effectiveness. The maximum amount of 14 sheets should be used only occasionally. Personally, I shred only 8 or 9 sheets at a time.
There is no “bin full” indicator on this shredder, but it’s easy to determine when the bin needs emptying due to the large window at the front. My previous shredder (AmazonBasics 12-Sheet micro-cut) had an LED that lit up when it thought that the bin was full. When this happened, the shredder would stop working. Unfortunately, this shredder developed a fault and thought that the bin was full even though it was completely empty. This rendered the shredder completely useless. No such problem occurs with the C169-B. The pull-out bin itself is very easy to remove (and replace) in order to empty its contents.
This machine has a patented cooling system — after several passes, the cooling fan kicks in. It’s very reassuring to know that the machine is being cooled in this way. I normally wait until the fan stops whirring (usually for about a minute) before continuing with the shredding (but, of course, this is not really necessary — clearly, you can continue without stopping for about 30 minutes).
It is recommended to oil the cutting system on a regular basis in order to ensure the longevity of the shredder. The advice in the manual is to oil the cutters every 5th or 6th time the bin is emptied, but I prefer to oil the cutters every time I empty the bin. I use Fellowes Performance Oil.
This is a superb shredder and I highly recommend it.
Like many folks I have a mountain of sensitive documents that need to be shredded. My current shredder overheats after 5 mins operation, using external services is expensive and has the trust question. This product has enabled me to shred all my documents on almost a continuous basis, the killer features are the 30min continuous operation and large bin. Highly recommended if you have lots of documents to shred.
Sounds powerful, just hope it lasts longer than some of the others I have used, and wrecked
My last machine did not like old address labels – too sticky, so do watch what goes in and I have now added a regular “oil the works” routine using purpose made lube sheets – long live this new machine!!!
I bought this Shredder in Feb 21 and as I was having a clear out of the office gave it quite intensive use for several weeks. I then didn’t use it for about 3 weeks and when I went to switch it on it blew the 3 amp fuse in the plug. I replaced the fuse but the device still would not power up. I contacted Bonsaii via email and they were very quick to respond. We exchanged a number of emails and pictures and then they offered to send me a brand new unit and didn’t want the old one returned. New unit arrived within a day and I am crossing my fingers that it proves to be longer lasting than the first one. However I can’t fault the Bonsaii aftercare service.
I have only just bought this so I cannot comment on longevity.
Previously, I had one of those basic cross cut machines that goes for 3 minutes then stops for 30 minutes. In fact, it doesn’t even do that and as we are moving house, and have vast amounts of paperwork to shred securely, it was driving me balmy! We would never have got through it all prior to the move.
This machine is brilliant – it seems to go for longer than 30 minutes actually and you really can get through a lot of paper. I did find that I couldn’t feed 14 sheets at a time, though this may have been because a lot of the paper had been in the garage and may have attracted moisture, making it thicker.
Although the idea of a pull out drawer appealed to me as being better than having to take the machine off the top, I found that the drawer is sometimes difficult to get in or out. It also feels a bit flimsy, and it bends a bit, so I hope it will last a long time.
It is a cross-shredder, actually not as secure as the previous cheap machine, as it only shreds to a P3 (is it?) and not a P4 but it seems adequate and perfectly secure for me. I think someone would have just as much trouble trying to piece documents together from the shreds as with the P4!!
The price was far more than I would have considered paying previously, but it is worth it if you have a lot of shredding to do.
Overall I am very pleased with the machine and I think it is worth the price. It works so much better than anything I’ve had before.
From the front the “window” outline is badly finished. It looks like plastic covering is over the outline, it looks quite shabby and does not do anything for the look of the machine in fact it lets it’s sleek look down.
This is not as quiet as I expected but on the good side it works very efficiently.
As a bonus you get an extra 6 months in your warranty if you register online, which is a bonus.
I just wanted a shredder that works and I’ve only had it less than a week so it’s bound to be efficient, come back snd ask me after 9 months it may or may no be a different story.
I’ve recently been having a bit of a clear out and finally got around to shredding the last 15 years of un-needed bank statements and other redundant paperwork! I had a cheap shredder that would overheat after a few mins which that I wouldn’t effectively be able to shred-as-I-sort as it would stop working after a relatively small batch of shredding. It also couldn’t handle more than a few sheets at a time, which meant removing everything from envelopes. So I decided to upgrade.
After checking around a bit, I came across this shredder which had the right balance of size, cost and shredding time. I’ve been delighted with it! It fits neatly under my desk without taking up too much room and, so far, hasn’t overheated while I’ve been doing my sorting, though the fan has kicked in (which is a good thing)! Very glad I bought it! It’s not the quietest, but not really that loud as shredders go and it munches through envelopes with old bills with relative ease so it suits me down to the ground.
Love the 30 minute run time and the number of sheets it can simultaneously shred.
Whilst I rarely will shred documents with the maximum number of pages the shredder can handle, knowing it can shred more means it is less likely to get jammed and likely to have a longer run time before over heating.
I have had cheaper units from a well known high street stationary company which eventually burned out, so this time I went for a heavier duty unit to ensure it lasts longer.
The slide-in containing for catching the shredded paper is an improvement on the cheaper types where you have to lift off the shredder from the bin, which invariably results in cut paper being deposited on the floor and a vacuuming of the floor required afterwards. The slide-in/out bin doesn’t eliminate that completely, but perhaps I will get better at pulling the bin out and avoid dropping cut paper.
I have used it once for a fairly heavy session of dozens of documents and it coped well.
I’ve gone through quite a few sub 50 paper shredders over the years. With identity theft at high levels, shredding your personal papers is more important than ever. A letter with your name and address on it often have reference codes on them and this is like gold to identity thieves.
Although I shred all correspondence as a matter of course, I do have a tendency to let them pile up and then do a mass shredding. Cheap shredders don’t like this. A lot of them only have a 5-minute run time before they need to cool down. This can be so frustrating when you just want to get the job done.
This one from Bonsaii is a little bit more expensive but it claims a 30-minute run time. To be honest I was sceptical. So, I was presently surprised to see that the claimed run time was actually an understatement. I used it for well over an hour and shredded five carrier bags stuffed with correspondence without the unit overheating.
The reason it has such a long run time is that it incorporates a cooling fan at the rear of the unit. A simple solution to getting rid of excess heat. The claimed 14-sheet capacity is pretty accurate depending on the thickness of the paper. It’s very rare to hear the motor struggling even a little bit. It’s a hungry little monster. It also claims to take staples and paper-clips. To be honest, I haven’t tried any paper-clips but I have shredded a lot of stapled documents. This saves a lot of time.
Even after shredding five bags of correspondence, I have yet to get a paper jam. It has the usual reverse mode if you do get one but I haven’t needed it. The main thing is to keep an eye on the storage bin and empty it before it gets too full. It’s a pull-out bin which makes emptying a breeze. Our local council lets you put shredded paper in the garden waste bin which is great. I have no concerns about anyone being able to piece together the shredded paper. I would say it’s on the verge of impossibility.
Overall, it’s worth paying the little extra for this shredder. Hope that helps.
This shredder does exactly what I bought it for, to destroy pieces of paper by turning it into little bits (X-cutter).
Very large capacity bin with a clear window in it makes it so much less messy than other brands where you have to pull the bin out to see if it’s full, scattering bits all over the floor.
Even though the PCB board which controls the on/off and auto switch packed up after 9 months of very little use, I have still given the product 5 stars because the manufacturers, Bonsaii.com were outstanding! They replied within 24 hours, and sent me a replacement within 48 hours.
Pros.
Easily keeps going for half an hour at a time.
Clean cross shredding.
Can manage 14 sheets at a time though I wouldn’t recommend doing this constantly.
Has a fan to slow down overheating.
Compact size.
Quieter than my previous shredder.
Cons
Does not sense when basket is full (has a sensor but doesn’t work). Kept shredding until it absolutely could not force any more in at which point there was a noise and a little smoke. Messy and tricky to empty when so full, and had to spend a while removing the paper crushed up into the blades. However worked fine again once cleaned and oiled and hav had no further problems now that I keep an eye on how full it is getting.
Does fill quite quickly due to compact size.
Bin is tricky to pull out.
Does require oiling every 3-4 emptyings.
Overall.
Would recommend this shredder. Does the job well so long as care is taken not to overfill. Less noise, less of a struggle, and faster than smaller shredders I have had in the past, so definitely worth the extra money. Pleased with the purchase
I shred a LOT of paper and I bought this shredder specifically because it can run continuously for 30 minutes, I’ve not used it for that long yet – probably only or 15/20 minutes continuously – but what a joy that it doesn’t overheat after 5 mins! A bit more expensive than a basic model (that I fell into the trap of buying before this one!) but worth it. Great for people working at home who need something more than a basic model.
Previously we had two shredders. Both were under 90. They would overheat after shredding a few sheets, and they were noisy. Five minutes of shredding, it would overheat. We got tired of waiting for it to cool down after every use. Neither of them were able to keep up with our workflow. We ended up with a big pile of paperwork that needed shredding, but with no shredder up to the task. We needed a new one with a bigger capacity, what stopped us was the price. Was it worth getting a more expensive one?
The answer is yes! This shredder is worth every penny.
This new Bonsai shredder is perfect!
And here’s why:
– It can shred continously for half an like it says.
– It is quieter compared to the other two we had.
– It’s easy to use. Insert paper and shred. No more than 14 sheets at a time which is fine.
– It has a fan cooling system inside.
– The oiling makes it more effective.
So far so good. Just make sure you oil it after every few shred loads. I recommend for office. This is an Office Manager’s new favourite tool. ^_^
I have owned three different shredders now incuding this one, a cheaper 50 shredder, one costing 180 and this one which I paid 110.00 for and this is probably the best value for money one that I have owned. Yes you get what you pay for but surely there has to be a cut off point, a shredder costing over 100 and a shredder costing over 200 they both shred paper so you should ask what extra are you getting for your money?
There is nothing I don’t like about this shredder but here are a couple of important things I do like about it. First and most importantly, the enclosed bin or paper collection area. Some shredders have wired mesh style containers, these are awful as you will get paper ‘dust’ the bin on this Bonsaii shredder is totally enclosed, no dust escapes, ideal for a home office enviroment.
Secondly the container size, believe me size does matter when it comes to a shredder, this at 17 litres this is a perfect size, you won’t find yourself having to empty it as often and although it might sound a minor thing now it is so annoying when a shredder needs continuously emptying.
Some cheaper shredders are literally a basket or bucket with a shredder unit situated on top, this isn’t, it is a proper unit with a bucket that slots in and out of a casing structure with ease. The kind that have units sitting on top of a basket or bucket are messy when it comes to emptying, really avoid those if you can.
The Bonsaii Evershed states it will shred 14 sheets at a time, this is probably true if you have low GSM paper but I doubt it would shred 14 sheets of 120gsm at a time. I put through around 6-8 sheets and it eats them with ease. Whilst it might not seem that important having shredders that says it will shred less please remember the ability to shred less at a time will mean a lesser strength motor
If you need a very good home office shredder then this fits the bill perfectly, pay much less and you won’t get the important features like enclosed large capacity bucket and the ability to shred 14 sheets at a time, pay much more and ask yourself what extra are you getting, if you want a paper shredder that shreds paper and works why spend much more.
Bought one of these last december, (2017) and had it now for nearly 12 months. It has been a brilliant shredder up until a few weeks ago when I noticed it seemed to be slowing down when undertaking repeated shredding even if only a few sheets at a time. I have never put in 14 probably maximum 8-10 at any oen time and usually much less. I raised it with Morning Joy and after asking me to check/try a few things they concluded a gear may have broken. No hassle at all they offerred to refund my original payment in full. Great customer service! looking at the reviews I think I have just been unlucky and will happily buy another.
Couldn’t wait for this to arrive as the old shredder had given up the ghost and the paperwork was piling up. We’ve been busy all last week so didn’t want to order it until we knew we would be there to receive it. The delivery was nice and quick and the driver was a cheerful chap to talk to. This is far more expensive than I have ever spent on previous shredders and was dubious about buying It but I was fed up of having to replace them or wait half hour for them to cool down. Once out the box it looked bigger than I thought it would be which was a good thing I’m not complaining as I never checked the dimensions. It looked nice and feels good quality and prob wouldn’t be out of place in a office as well as a home. I couldn’t believe the speed it chewed through a carrier bag full of paperwork I couldn’t keep up with filling it. It’s lovely and quite to use with no vibration than any of the others I’ve had in the past. The motor sounds different as well when it’s working, it’s got a powerful expensive sort sound and it never cut out once. It’s an all round beast of shredders and im so glad I bought it. Update had this 3 years now and still working ok.
Purchased this shredder in December 2017 on the back of positive reviews even though it was more expensive than I would normally pay. Arrived promptly, very easy to set up and a robust product, did the job as described, quieter than most, good auto, stop and reverse controls, adequate & easy to empty waste bin, probably best not to put the max number of sheets in as can lead to jams, but it has an impressive cooling feature, I also bought the oil to help maintain its working life. After six months I had an issue with the cutter so I took photos and emailed the sellers customer service department. They were excellent and sent out a replacement item almost immediately with no requirement to return the faulty one.
Overall very satisfied with this shredder.
I purchased this Bonsaii EverShred in January this year and found it a very good shredder running well with no issues. I particularly liked the longer running time and it has a built in cooling fan. Not that I run it for 30 minutes at a time but sometimes you want a shredder to run for longer that the five or so minutes many other brands do. In June I had an issue with the paper guide by the cutter teeth, broken off partially. I contacted Bonsaii customer service and after an exchange of emails and a photo they readily agreed to replace my shredder FOC. The new shredder is working fine with no issues. The one thing I would say about Bonsaii customer service department is, I do not think I have come across better on line customer service. The lady I dealt with was first class with excellent customer service, updates of the progress of my enquiry and a tracking number provided when the replacement was sent. Thank you for your prompt action and replacement.
