This shovel has to be one if not the only shovel you will ever need. I took this out on a dig in an old holloway which was covered in stone and compacted earth. The Drotek shovel with its pointed end just massacred the deep stone and soil with the aerated edge charging through the roots. It’s not the lightest shovel, but it’s solid so don’t waste your time with other makes.
Update concerning the below, DR.OTEK could not be any better, Alisa in customer service helped from start to finish and sorted my problem, trusted company and have a few products from them always great quality, trusted.

Sadly the package had been opened and badly resealed and the comfort tape was missing, I’ve emailed the supplier with my issue and will update this review with the outcome. The product is robust and well built, I suspect this was originally returned because the shaft was hard to dismantle but with some brute force I was able to do so to create a shorter spade to aid metal detecting more comfortably. It is heavy but I suppose it has to be built to a strong level and do its job in hard as well as soft soil. Overall I’m pleased, just disappointed it was obviously a return and missing the comfort tape, let’s hope the supplier replies soon.

Did exactly what I need it to do. The screw part of the handle does need tightening from time to time. But cracking bit of kit for the garde
I (Andrew) have used this spade twice now for metal detecting. It is awesome. Very sturdy. The last outing, two days ago was on a ploughed field that was frozen solid for the top 3-4 inches. The space coped admirably and along with a Dr Otek pinpointer – helped me find my first hammered coin – a King Edward. Not bad for the second time out (beginner’s luck?). I really like the construction of the spade, it took my full body weight to break through the frozen layer. It was comfortable to use, it is not too heavy to carry, yet very strong. I also like the two-part shaft, though I am happy using it in the shorter mode.
Brilliant, very sharp, I suffer with a bad back and I actually managed to last for the whole dig for the 1st time. Love it.
Fantastic sturdy item. Haven’t used it for its intension as off yet. But the blades are sharp, the idea you can make it long or short appealed firstly. Bit weighty so better off keeping it short, adding the extra piece I think it would be too heavy to carry around all the time. Very robust glad I went with this one. Will update once used it for metal detecting….

Exceptionally good at digging when metal detecting, flicks those clods out no problem, perhaps a bit heavy for some but I’m built like a house so all ok.
Dr Otek create some great gear. This shovel is strong , sturdy with some great features. A little weighty but that’s what makes it so robust. A fantastic adjustable tool, from tall to short depending on your taste. A great buy.

Plant new plants. The handle can be set at 2 lengths, longer with both pole parts or shorter by removing 1. I found the shorter length ideal for my needs. Really saved my back and knees loosing weeds instead of using a small hand trowel. Feels very sturdy and goes into the ground easy
This really does cut through the Earth like butter. I already own a decent spade but have recently got a metal detector and thought this would be easier to carry around. It certainly packs smaller as you can have the handle in two parts so short or long. Longer than your average spade with both parts fitted. It’s pretty heavy though so definitely not lighter than normal spade. But the actual digging is way easier. Cuts through soil way easier. I actually moved a plant and tried with my old spade and couldn’t cut through the roots I switched to this spade and it literally went through with ease due to the serrated edge. Made the whole job way easier. It’s so well built. This is perfect for the garden and will be my go to spade. Would make a great gift especially for people who struggle with digging. The box did arrive damaged but product fine.
My husband (who does our gardening) thinks that this shovel is a piece of art and he never wants to be without it!
Our soil is incredibly dry, heavy and clay-like and has always been a terror to try and dig into but this shovel makes it all so easy. Well, you still have to put the work in but this makes it so much easier. It cuts through the soil so much better than an ordinary spade. The fact that they’ve included a, slightly padded, adhesive strap is a massive bonus and will save you on blisters to your hand/s.
There are spades….and then there’s this Dr.Otek spade. It really is a game changer. Good quality and sturdy shovel. Ideal for using when digging out holes for my fence posts.
This is a well designed and well made digging tool. Everything about it feels solid and practical.
The serrated blade cuts through hard ground and small plant roots with ease. The handle comes in two sections so you can use it in either long or short versions. I found the short length the ideal size for metal detecting. The roll of grip wrap that comes with it is a nice touch as it prevents your hands from getting cold on the metal handle and shaft.
This shovel is a little on the heavy side but I think this is just a consequence of its heavy duty construction.
If you’re looking for a digging tool that’s well designed and built to last then this is well recommended.
