Nothing to dislike. Easy to use , easy to see the markings
This wonderful artisan product has enhanced the quality of my gardening and of my life!
Perfect tool for planting all sorts of veg and flowers
Exactly what I was looking for.
Perfect for small to medium sized bulbs (daffodils, alliums and tulips). My garden has plenty of small rocks in the soil and this helped push them out of the way slowing to plant my bulbs with easy.
I have only used this dibber once so I cannot attest to sturdyness but when it comes to making holes in the ground it works fine.
I had to plant some broad beans in a bed that had been well mulched with wood chip. The dibber made a hole in the mulch with no problems with it’s sharp point and comfortable handle.
It’s a dibber and it works what more can I say?
Bought for son as Christmas gift. not used it yet but very pleased with quality.
Well made dibber, steel tip has depth markings, clean tip after use then wipe metal with oily rag this will stop metal from pitting making insertion easier.
Recomiendo
Iv’e never seen the need for a dibber before, but this year has seen multiple ant nests in the garden. I’ve tried boiling water (which kills the lawn as well), and other things. So, I plunge this dibber down into the nest, then insert a funnel (also from Amazon), then pour in some liquid Permethrin to about 1/3 way up the funnel. I dare say other insecticides are available! Kills the nest every time with just one application.
Review for Gardtech Hand Tools Traditional Garden Stainless Steel Dibber Hand Dibber with Light Weight Wooden Handle.
A useful tool if you do lots of planting, allows you to easily probe a hole into soil ready for planting. Can’t comment on value as no published selling price at time of review.
My father made one of these out of an old spade handle, but it wasn’t as good as this one. Sturdy, metal tipped and with depth guage in the metal, this plants everything that needs its own hole. Brilliant.
Also, there really should be a martial art based around one of these. Until then, I shall dib-dib-dib dib dib-dib-dib dip, dib the whole day through.
Bought as a gift but was delighted with how good it looked and felt.
This is a really great size and just what I was after. I have recently started to adopt the no dig method (inspired by Charles Dowding, see his books on Amazon for more info) so I wanted a dibber that could handle all size seeds and depth of planting when I sow direct including broad beans. This is ideal for that job. Feels good quality and good construction. Haven’t used it extensively since it’s coming into winter but so far so good. Really like the handle and feel of it, no complaints. Recommend
This dibber is of a good, practical size and — with one small reservation — is well made with no rough edges and nothing to suggest it won’t ‘see out’ most normal users; the wear and tear on a dibber being minimal.
For those unsure of how deep to plant something, the stainless steel section has 5, 7.5, 10 and 12.5cm markings on it. Sorry, centimetres only: that’s something like 2, 3, 4 and 5 inches.
It is very easy to clean after use; cold water and a scrubbing brush quickly returning it to almost new condition except
that one small reservation. At the very tip there is a small hole. For most of us that is no big deal, but it does mean that small seeds and soil pests can get inside, will not be washed off, and could potentially be transferred to your next worksite. So if you are observing strict plant and soil hygiene for scientific or other reasons, either this dibber is not for you, or you will need separate dibbers for separate work areas.
If like me, you like to put spring bulbs under the lawn, this is a great solution. The handle looks and feels like solid pine with a smooth finish. It is a good size at 28 cm including the metal tip which is 13 cm and has a small silicone protective tip which you removed when you use the item. To make the hole, put the tip in the location you want to plant and push down with the handle to a suitable depth for the bulb. Different blubs need deeper and bigger holes, this one is suitable for crocus and snowdrop.
I think that the price of 12.99 it isn’t bad value although cheaper ones are available.
Consideration of the type of soil beneath the grass must be considered. Our garden has a lot of tiny pieces of stone in it; this makes for good drainage, but can make things tricky using a dibber. I still managed but it can be a bit of a fuss. Those with newer houses I suspect will have more problem with this.
My original cheap plastic dibber disappeared from my garden so I was delighted to receive this good quality replacement.
It has a hardwood handle with a stainless steel pointed base with measurements from 5 to 12.5 centimetres to help with planting to the right depth. It will be great for planting small bulbs and rooted seedlings.
It looks almost too nice to use but I know it will be really useful next spring when I begin my vegetable gardening again.
A very nice dibber. The wooden handle gives it a rustic look, whilst the metal point will give it durability and reliability as it won’t dull easily. The length of the metal part is 12.5cm or 4.5inches, which allows for great versatility depending on what seeds/bulbs you want to plant. The handle allows for much easier use than those without and the entire thing is surprisingly light.
Stainless Steel Dibber
Just what I need. I’m an avid Gardner and have in the past used my finger to make holes in my potting earth. Not the best!!
This dibber will make planting my seeds and plants a lot easier
The dibber has a good size wooden handle to grasp to and a stainless steel attachment for when you are forming your holes.
Brilliant and I wish I had one sooner.
I hope you found this review helpful
This is a neat and functional garden dibber.
When planting in the garden, I usually use a garden fork.
Not any more.
This dibber will be perfect.
It is well made.
It looks good.
And I am sure it will be really useful.
Garden Dibber. Nea
This is a well made and sturdy dibber with what looks and feels like a quality ash handle. It has handy markings in centimeters on the side so you can see what depth you are dibbing to plant your bulbs. Well made, good quality.
Once upon a time I owned the most perfect dibber in the whole world, but I lost it on my allotment. But guess what? Amazon Vine has replaced it! But this one is EVEN BETTER as it has depth marks down the side! Why is it so good? Well the wood is very smooth and is of high quality. The metal part is steel so doesn’t rust. It’s the perfect size for planting leeks, other alliums, and small bulbs. It is also great for making shallow seed drills. No gardener can feel complete without a dibber…
Easy to use with a comfortable wooden handle and a sharp steel tip that glides effortlessly into the soil. I planted 75 bulbs this morning and it definitely made the task quick and easy. It works best for smaller bulbs as the the point is quite narrow and the resulting hole is too small for larger bulbs such as tulips or even a decent size allium (for those I started the hole with the dibber and then used a narrow trowel to widen it to the right size).
Nice lightweight dibber with useful measures in metric for depth that feels reasonably well made and good quality. The metal part is sheet stainless steel which is bent into a cone shape with a visible seam where the two sides meet and a small hole at the pointed end and is attached to the wooden handle with two stainless steel rivets. So, however careful you are to clean the tool after use you are never going to be able to get into the hole at the end, which is nevertheless big enough to allow a steady accumulation of soil and moisture inside. Ditto the seam and the join with the wooden handle which is not as flush as I would like it. I guess as it’s stainless steel this shouldn’t really be a problem but I’d rather the finish was a bit cleaner to put my mind at rest. Otherwise, it’s very good and we really like the idea of having the depth measurements on.
I obtained this item to help me to prepare the holes to plant approximately 150 daffodil bulbs: November being the best time to plant them I am informed. Having used one of the bulb planter tools, which removes a large ‘Plug” of earth – whilst that type of tools is great with soft soil, I needed to plant the daffodils in a turfed area, for which this Gardtech dibber is ideal and far better as there is less need for the soil to be softer to make the necessary hole.
Using the dibber is relatively easy, identify where you wish to locate the bulb, press quite hard and apply weight until you reach the required depth, then gripping the handle rotate the dibber to create a hole – there is a depth gaugeif you require one . Insert the bulb and backfill with either compost or soil.
The dibber is manufactured from stainless steel, with a wooden handle. It is lightweight, yet appears to be very durable and should last a reasonable amount of time.
This is simple and easy to use. A great help.
Arrived on time nice and light and easy to use
I really liked this steel dibber with wooden handle. It was weighted just right for me, not too light or too heavy. The wooden handle fits well in my hand and feels comfortable. I liked that the steel point at the end came with it’s own little protective cap and the depth measurement was also on it. I am happy with it and I feel that the over all quality is very good.
This is fantastic quality for the price of only 12.99, the wood handle is brilliantly made and the chrome spike has inch marks upto 5 inches. Well worth the price and we highly recommend it. Just used it now for spring bulbs, a lot better than digging a hole.
Great quality for the price and does what it needs to. Handle us smooth and burr free
I love my bulb dibber! This has a lovely tactile handle and why on earth did I not get one for the previous 100 bulbs ?
Fabulous. Did the job and made my bulb planting so much easier than expected. Glad I bought this.
