Easy to set up. Substantial piece of equipment, solid. A bit high for my LG tv, about 7mm higher than the bottom of the screen though it won’t make much difference to me. I might hang it on the wall at the back of the TV just above the screen. Which means the sound will be coming more from the top of the TV than from the bottom. Plenty of volume for my sitting room 15 x15 ft.
It came from Amazon warehouse as used but like new. It was in original packaging and had probably never been used. Very pleased.
It would be very helpful to give the measurements. It arrived two days early which was a great surprise.
Everytbing was very straightforward very easy to connect panasonic tv controls it.better sound quslity than a lot i tested around the same price! Good bass response and surround effects and clear treble.some dont and sound muffled
There is nothing else in this price range that even comes close to the sound quality or features of the JBL Bar 5.0.
It’s very easy to setup, doesn’t require any external app.
The only thing that’s missing is a subwoofer but for this price that’s okay and the bass performance is surprisingly good without.
Don’t get me wrong, it is an amazing sound bar but it got mini non sense technical problems like the msg that keep coming out to say air play is ready. Or that it keeps muting it self.. Called the help center who didn’t have any clue what to do and advised waiting for the next update
Bought for our spare room as TV speakers were awful. Sound and virtual surround effects are great. Very happy with my purchase.
This speaker is amazing value considering it costs pretty much the same as any small portable speaker from other well known brands. The volume, vocal clarity and bass are seriously impressive and I am seriously impressed, if I had to pay 3 times as much I would pay that for such is the sound quality on offer, even at low volumes not muddy at all. I have other speakers to compare to including atmos av receiver system and although it does not compare to full surround, depending on the room it certainly gives more space and spreads the sound to give a wider soundstage, all in all, JBL have never let me dow
I bought this as I had an very old soundbar and the quality of sound was poor due to having only 2 speakers in it, as I could not use the extra base.
I cannot use the Dolby Atmos in the Mancave as my Epson projector only takes PCM audio and no way of doing anything else.
As I bought this from Amazon warehouse and with an extra 20% off it only cost me 144, it was brand new never been opened.
After setting it up the overall sound quality was much better than my previous soundbar and I could make out all the speaking and thats what I was missing before it seemed muffled.
The volume of the soundbar is okay if I only use it at 15 volume, anymore than that is overkill for my 15×4 mancave but it still sounds clear if I do put the volume up.
Sound is good, just what I needed. Sometimes disconnects from TV so have to restart it.
Works great in our bedroom and more than enough sound.
Replaced a 5.1 system with this and its ok
I bought this as a treat to myself because I was irritated that the DTS:X soundbar that I had, had no native content from streaming services. As soon as I connected to Netflix, the Atmos symbol came on over the applicable content. I selected stranger things to try it out, the sound was amazing, it sounded like Vekner was talking in the room which was pretty creepy!! Have tried lots of content and it sounds great, particularly the Atmos soundtracks which is why I bought it. For every day use it’s just as good, I like the multi channel audio particularly for speech, as my old 2.1 set up had the mumble problem. Problem solved with the JBL! I really love it and so impressed with the value for money
Excellent sound quality. Smaller in size than I was expecting but it still fits well and looks good. Remote control is a bit too simplistic and changing certain settings always requires referring to the manual but overall a great product. Could be cheaper though.
***Update*** I’ve purchased a second “as new” used warehouse deal from Amazon. The reason for this is I have a cheap portable projector screen (tripod type) for use with a Xgimi Horizon Pro projector (excellent projector btw) and needed something I could quickly set-up that was small but packed a *reasonable* punch. Typically, I’m using the projector in the main bedroom. I had considered (& even ordered from Amazon) a Creative Stage 360 (the cheapest Atmos soundbar money can buy as far as I knew) which worked out about 40 less than a warehouse special JBL 5 Multibeam but I had 2nd thoughts thinking that the JBL would be the better (& more convenient solution as there’s no wired passive sub) – so I cancelled the Creative & ordered a 2nd JBL 5 Multibeam. Glad I did too – as I hadn’t realised that I hadn’t set the 42″ LG Oled Tv or the AppleTv 4k up to use Bitstream rather than pcm – subsequently meaning I had not been listening to the JBL at its best (at least with the best sound source). What a difference. So for the bedrm / smallish rm (say 4m x 4m) it genuinely sounds very good (note we have a Sennheiser Ambeo in the living room with an 83″ OLED so I know what a decent soundbar sounds like & had 2 high quality Marantz Atmos setup’s at my old house each well north of 2k each) so; you know for <200 this is pretty f*cking good! Seriously.
Btw, as to my 2nd Warehouse deal; even better - this time it literally looked brand new, was in an outer Amazon box - I genuinely could not split it from a brand new one - except for a small "Amazon warehouse" sticker on the box. Original manufacturer clear circular seals unbroken (although this was 196 whereas my original one was 187). Remember to calibrate the soundbar in the room of choice! Enough now . my original review words follow:
I don't like taking too much of a risk with Amazon's warehouse deals but this was very well priced (187) and stated it was "as new". Whilst the packaging was a little damaged (there was another for sale that said its' packaging was damaged) mine wasn't supposed to be - plus it shipped in JBL's normal box I.e. Amazon didn't re-pack it which didn't help HOWEVER - its more than ok for a study under an LG 42" OLED in my case which is used as a PC monitor on a gaming system (& backup for work on the opposing side of my study) so my expectations weren't too high. The small LED display on the front is very useful and whilst the remote could be more practical (there are hidden features e.g. adjusting bass - where you have to hold a button for 5 seconds & then press volume) it's more than enough for the job. HDMI CEC works perfectly so the TV remote works perfectly . In terms of its Atmos, virtual Atmos rather; don't expect too much - it is what it is (it is projecting sound rather than emitting it from dedicated ideally place Atmos speakers) as it's quite a small unit BUT it really is 1/2 decent for a small room and sounds great with music. As you'll read above, despite thinking I'd set the TV eARC up correctly- I actually hadn't - so post writing my review (on my second purchase of one of these I realised my error) the subsequent results were better. For its small footprint, ease of use and above all performance vs price, this is pretty neat.
Not the best sound bar around, but a reasonable quality at a good price
This is fabulous!!! The sound is crystal clear and the multibeam feature is very good. Dolby atmos is very welcome and music sounds brilliant. So powerful!! And so compact. Buy it.
It’s an amazing soundbar. It delivers so much for the price.
This JBL Bar 5.0 multibeam is simply excellent. Solid build with minimal controls on the unit and a really sparse but well thought out remote. Set-up out of the box was really easy, the unit connected immediately via ethernet and updated to latest firmware. Attached to a 2017 Samsung TV with HDMI arc and all set-up including Google Home and Multibeam calibration completed within 15 minutes. The quick start booklet included was helpful.
TV sound is improved in every way, voice placement is clear and the Atmos virtual effect is really impressive. I noticed that some reviewers here mention the limited bass but for my needs in a relatively spacious room it is perfectly fine. JBL seem to know how to get the sound and effects balance spot-on. For ground shaking effects though having a sub is undeniably the way to go and this is not something that can be added later.
Other than the bass volume there are no other features to ‘enhance’ playback, eg no Music, Speech or Movie as found on my HK700. There is no JBL control app but given that JBL seem to struggle with apps that is probably a good thing. I use Google Home and Bubble UPNP and these work well.
Initial impressions are overall really positive and really happy with this purchase.
Don’t buy this if you are expecting deep base. It won’t give you that. But what it will give you is deeper tones and a richer sound than your standard tv speakers.
This is a really decent soundbar for the money, I’ve owned loads of soundbars and home cinema kits and this is 1 of the best I’ve ever had it’s got loads of detail in the sound and you can hear stuff in games and films that you’ve never heard before
I needed better sound quality to hear speech and this does the trick, articularly for film viewing there’s richer sound altogether. I was able to get a large discount by opting for an Amazon special buy so I was very pleased about that!
I got this from the warehouse and it was a good deal, not so much if it was full price.
The sound is good, at most isn’t really that good but its virtualization so isn’t going to be.
However the issue I have is it keeps dripping out for no reason, and the chrome cast function just doesn’t work as it should.
I’m going to give it a little longer or it’s going back.
When i first setup this speaker, I had my Xbox series S plugged into the HDMI port and everything was working fine except the xbox whereby sound was coming though however i just got a black screen on my TV. I eventually found the manual and worked out how to update the speaker (you need a android or IOS device or a wired internet connection). After the update it worked.
Another note is the Dolby Atoms feature (fake surround sound) is not automatic, instead you need to hold down the HDMI button on the remote to do the automatic configuration. Once done it works. Its not as good as putting speakers around the room, but it does a darn good job at emulating it.
The sound quality is better then I expected.
Only two things let this down. The first is that setup, when I need the instruction manual to setup something like a speaker, then the user interface isnt good enough.
The other is that this speaker advertises ChromeCast (and airplay but i dont have a IOS device to test that on) support. As you connect this speaker though HDMI i thought that the Chromecast feature would display your phones screen as well as audio, however it is just audio pass though which then begs the question, why should I use that over Bluetooth?
But hey, in the grand scheme of things that is either a temporary issue or a minor one. I got this for 204 (second hand on amazon warehouse) and it was worth every penny.
The speaker came like it was new with all the wires in tac and ive just been shaking the house with the 5 levels of bass. Worth i
Used to give better sound quality with my Samsung tv
I thought the sound from my TV was good but this is another level. Even my wife can tell the difference and she thinks it’s great. No brainer.
It’s the most I’ve paid for a sound bar to date, but I’m really pleased with the quality of the sound. Simple to set up and calibrate so I’m really pleased with this purchase.
I chose this soundbar to replace a full sound system and when used with atmos content either through 4k dvd’s or streamed films on Netflix or Amazon prime the result is superb. I haven’t had chance to hear higher priced soundbars from other manufacturers but I have other products from Bose and Bang and Olufsen and I think the JBl will hold its own. Yes the remotes a bit quirky for setup but does what it says on the tin by turning the volume up and down.
This will turn any room into a cinematic experience, very punchy and bassy, especially useful if you have annoying neighbours!
Only con I would say is the remote is not good, for changing bass levels etc you need to use a combination of buttons, on the plus side though it can be setup with a Firestick so when you turn the TV on with Firestick remote the soundbar will also turn on, same as turning off.
Personally I enjoy every genre of music from cheesy cascada remixes, iron maiden, queen a significant amount of classical and everything else, I own a pair of Sony WH1000 XM3s and this simply obliterated the sound quality and the bass.
For 300 the the price per performance is outstanding, these are probably the best in the price range.
Automatic configuration that you hear going around the room which is fun to experience.
I was worried that I would be ddisappointed with this product but it’s genuinely outstanding. Delivered really quickly too.
Thanks
I am mildly hard of hearing and this soundbar has improved the tv audio vastly. I used which magazine, to make my final decision on purchase. It’s a shame that there is no app for this bar.
This is a review for the JBL Bar 5.0 Multibeam.
I got this Soundbar because I am limited in space, in the room my TV is in. It’s a LG 55″ Nano, that has support for eARC, Dolby Atmos, HDR, 4k, etc…
I connected the bar to the eARC HDMI channel,, used a quality HDMI cable, and went through the calibration process, as well as some personal settings. The bar fits perfectly under the LG, which has an annoyingly large curved stand – which makes it difficult to place a bar directly in-front of the TV, but the Multibeam fitted like a glove.
Control, is done via the small remote. Not a lot on the remote, but a few controls are only accessible with a button combination, such as bass – which is hold TV button for 3 seconds, then press the – button, and you get 5 levels. Speaking of which, there is not a lot of bass. Great for people like myself, where you don’t want your room booming, or shaking with bass. But if you like the rumble from a bass, then this Soundbar isn’t for you. I would get JBL’s bigger brother, the JBL Bar 9.1, where you get a full separate bass unit.
The Sound is good, clear, and kind of fills the room IF the source is multi-channel. And when it is, you can be surprised when the effect comes in. For example, I was watching a movie where a mobile phone went off to the rear left, and it genuinely made me think my own phone was ringing in another room. Really weird, at first, and not like having real rear speakers, but good enough without resorting to more money, and cables.
One thing though, you might need to configure your TV’s audio out, on the output you are connecting the Multibbeam to, to only allow audio pass-through. I found that, when I had the audio to PCM, then audio played from both the Soundbar, AND the TV – causing the sound to get slightly muffled, and confusing. When set to pass-through, the sound became clear where it was coming from, and the quality was better.
Not so good. No app, so everything has to be done with the remote, or directly on the soundbar’s front buttons. This can be a combination of button presses/holds + press another button. Not intuitive, not something easily remembered. And forget the useless manual, just download the PDF.
Like I have already written, the bass is not that great. If you don’t want to annoy neighbours, or don’t want the house rumbling/shaking, then this is perfect. However, if you do like lots of bass then this soundbar is definitely not for you.
Another not so good thing. The manual/PDF tells you that to get your firmware version you just hold down source and – buttons for a few seconds, but in my experience nothing happens. All I get is a scrolling message telling me Dolby Atmos is on, etc.. no firmware version.
I haven’t used the Bluetooth functions, or Wi-Fi, etc.. I only use the Soundbar as a device to better my TV audio when watching TV, or Movies. The other features don’t interest me at this time.
Overall, great value for money, but with a few niggly faults that may, or may not bother some.
Fast delivery from Richer Sounds and great sound. The only bad point i have is there is no app to control settings so if you loose the remote you are unable to adjust much as the onboard controls are limited.
Also some settings like bass enhancment dont have a dedicated button and are hidden behind several button presses which are annoying.an app would have prevented all this.I dont know why JBL dont provide app support however the bar still sounds great.
