Bolt/nut adjustment for accurate cut. Can also take apart to sharpen blade (rarely). Highly recommended, in fact, just bought another just to have around.

These are nice clippers. I haven’t had a chance to use them too much, but they seem well worth the money. That said, the ARS VS-8 seems to be better built and probably worth the difference. The ARS have aluminum frames. The Tonma clippers probably aluminum too, but they have a speckled finish that covers the metal. The blades of the ARS clippers are held with a nut/bolt while the Tonma has a bolt into a threaded frame. I really like the “squeeze to release” lock on the ARS, the Tonma has a sliding lock that works fine, just not as cool as the ARS. The Tonma clippers have a telescoping spring (like Felco), the ARS have a coil spring. Don’t know that one is better than the other, but Felco is pretty much the standard for commercial clippers. In terms of cutting, the Tonma clippers are sharp and make a clean cut. Don’t know how long they last before they need sharpening. In summary, the Tonma’s are nice clippers, but with Felco F2’s on sale for $48.56 I think I probably should have bought them instead.

Great pair of secateurs that cut through the garden bushes like a knife through butter. Very sharp and strong blade unlike cheaper pairs I’ve had which have either chipped or deformed cutting harder wood.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThe quality of this tool is excellent. There is so much junk made in china because they copy all legitimate brands to put excellent companies out of business It has all become a race to the bottom for quality. I was so tired of wasting money I found “Cultivate”, a Mark Cuban development, that tells me where products were really made. It is a Chrome extension or an IOS App. In fact Cultivate is the only reason I ever use Chrome as a browser. It immediately identified the country of origin for this product as Japan. That alone made me want to buy it. It should last for many decades, with far better quality then any I have ever used or seen before. Buy it.

Excellent secateurs for garden pruning. I use these for my fine pruning and grafting. I use my other pruners for landscape pruning , although you could use these for all your pruning needs . They arrived razor sharp . The blade is removable for sharpening. Heavy duty release button .8 inches large with looks like a grey enamel finish on the handles. The grip is comfortable and ergonomic. They came with a extra spring, I followed another reviewers advice and epoxied the spring in place at the bottom. Have not lost the spring yet. You should buy your pruners from Tonma fulfilled by Amazon so you are sure to get genuine secateurs made in Japan. Seller Tonma is responsive to your inquiries, mine was answered within 24 hours.

We saw some YouTube videos where these specifically were recommended so we tried one. These are worth the money and deserve the reviews and referrals! Best hand-held gardening shears we have or have ever had. Does everything you’d expect shears to do (comfortable, locking, etc.). And more! They are very sharp and the cutting action is smooth. If you need good shears, these will be hard to beat.

I am a fan of both Felco and Corona gardening tools. Both are high quality, Felco being better IMO.
These shears are every bit as good as similar Felco shears, but at a much better price. Japanese steel is strong and stays sharp. These are clean cuts and smooth. I really enjoy their ergonomics and they ease and security of the latching mechanism. Flawless. I’m buying 2 more as gifts for my gardening adult children.
So yeah, I recommend them. 😉

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersSuper sharp and very well made. These are my first true “pro quality” shears. I have Fiskars and some nice “pro” stainless, and Corona BP7200. None stack up to these, especially at the price. Never tried a Felco, but I’d find it hard to believe they would be superior to these and at half the price.
Love the SK5 steel. Makes me feel like Doug Marcaida when I use these. I keep saying “it will cut!” In my head when using.
The silver is slightly larger than the red/black handle and has a different spring. They are very comfortable and I have med-large hands.

I’ve learned as I developed this hand crippling condition that good tools can help level the playing field. Especially now when hand strength and dexterity is simply not an option.
This tool is one of those. What makes it especially useful is that I can afford to buy it. Since crippled hands have devastated my earning capacity. Thank you very much for an excellent and affordable tool.

Smooth surface helps to keep it clean. Once the release button that opens the scissors is adjusted to the center, it is ready to quick release and operation. Seems rust-proof, which is necessary to keep end of grafting cutting more hygienic. Cuts precisely how you wanted without causing much cracking or damage to scion shaft. Very ergonomic, fits contour of ones palm more naturally, so that there is no need for fingers maneuver uncomfortably during cutting process. Overall pretty comfortable. You should not be dissatisfied with the results.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI have been trying to find good quality pruning shears for a while and tried products from several very popular bands but I have been very disappointed in the build quality and usability of their shears. I tried these lesser known Tonma shears because they were made in Japan and seemed high quality. Using them in the garden today, I am very impressed! Very attractive in appearance, they fit well in my hand (a medium male hand), and are very sharp. I had no difficulty in cutting either small or moderate sized branches.

Golden Review Award: 21 From Our UsersI’ve been using the 8″ pruning shears for 4 months now. They are excellent, razor sharp and they hold their edge. They’re also very ergonomic, comfortable to use for hours at a time. I like them more than the other “big” name brands. A crack developed on one of the handles, I contacted Tonma through the Amazon message service on the Tonma store site; they got back to me the next day to inform me they indeed had a lifetime warranty as stated in the product description and they would be sending out a new pair of shears with no need to send the original ones back. I received the replacement shears two days later! Customer service really doesn’t get better than this. Tonma is an excellent company and stand behind their product.

Came incredibly sharp, they handle ” branches easily with a bit of persuasion. The steel is holding up nicely, I’ve not had to sharpen them after a few weeks decent use.

Golden Review Award: 15 From Our UsersThese are well executed and cut superb. The only issue that will arise sooner or later, is that you will lose the spring in the heat of battle. An extra spring is provided, but so what, you will eventually lose that too. I lost the spring on mine the first day when tossing them into my garden cart and they hit the side and fell to the ground. I simply put a dab of 5 minute epoxy on both ends of the spring and reinserted it. Problem was solved!. I can’t believe this wasn’t done at the factory. Otherwise a nice working (and looking) tool from Japan.

Sharp enough to cut hair. Like the sliding lock instead of cheap metal loop on others. Cuts like butter on most branches within the specified range.

Golden Review Award: 13 From Our UsersIt is such a well designed and made piece of pruner using high grade cutting steel on top of that. As you expect for new, the blade (about 1/8″ thick) is sharp, makes an easy, smooth clean cut. As the blade and opposing steel are not stainless, user must maintain it accordingly to prevent rust. The handle has nice bump and operates smoothly with no play. It appears aluminum handles are bead blasted and look metallic and has a clear vinyl coating on entire aluminum handles which is superior to typical partial coating on most other pruners as this vinyl coating is usually the first to go. Nice touch !. Locking mechanism is easy one hand operation. If there is any short coming, it is that the opposing steel thickness should be more like 5/16″ to prevent crushing the bark (more contact area) when cutting hardwood of large diameter branches. Nevertheless, it should serve most applications perfectly for many years. High quality piece. Highly recommended.

These arrived in a nice heavy duty cotton bag with a booklet. They feel good and they look good and have a spare spring in the package. They have all the right Japanese credentials in the booklet, but, to be honest, they are for a Christmas present so I haven’t tried them out. I can say I would have picked these out in a shop for looks, weight and feel.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI really like these secateurs. They are strong and quite sharp. They are slightly on the larger side and open a little wider than others but are comfortable to use. I like the colour too. They feel sturdy to use, rugged but precise. However the spring came out once as it’s just held in by opposing force. I popped it back in and will just hope it doesn’t happen again. Still going strong. Best kept clean and oiled (rapeseed).

The only thing I don’t like is the counter-blade tip extends slightly further than the sharp blade tip. This is a little less than ideal when cutting Ivy against a fence for example and I want the tips to cut flush with the surface. (One star off for that otherwise would be five). Other than that I’m happy with my purchase and would buy another.

These are good quality for the price. I would recommend them.

Golden Review Award: 56 From Our UsersFor the money, these seem like excellent, sharp, well made pruning shears that look like they should last a long time with proper care. The only possible issue I see is the locking mechanism, which seems to come unlocked too easily and might possibly pose a danger if not handled carefully.
I deducted one star because, as pictured, the product card is printed “MADE IN JAPAN”, but the barcode sticker right above this clearly says “MADE IN CHINA”. Very confusing… perhaps Tonma can clarify???

    Nice shears. Confusing, contradictory packaging.
