I have used it in the past on processors but on this occasion I bought it to improve the cooling on a M2 SSD external housing that I had already bought. It did the job.

ice amount of cleaning wipes and plenty of heat compound in the syringe.
I know its only designed for a single CPU usage but I have used it for a Macbook Air and twice for a Ryzen 9 CPU

just a note, the cleaning pads really stink (of the cleaning solution)

My 6 year old laptop was idling at 70c with high fan speed but after removing the old thermal paste (the included wipes worked well for that) and applying this new thermal paste it now idles at 50c with low to no fan speed 10/10 works very well would recommend.

Solid thermal paste, works great for my computer. The provided wipes aren’t great at cleaning off thermal paste, and I had to use multiple to clean everything. They also have a very strong solvent smell so if you intend to use them make sure the room is well ventilated.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersAs people have said, the bundled wipes smell like petrol or something. Very nasty, so use in a ventilated space.

It’s good that they bundle six because I had to use three to clean my laptop GPU and CPU off. It took a bit of buffing to get off the old stuff. I polished a little with some dry tissue after because there seemed to be some chemical residue.

Can’t really comment on the thermal performance of the paste. It’s nice and thick and the syringe works well.

It is a nice kit, but city it does not have a spreader or it would be a complete kit.
I’ve used arctic silver before and have found it works well.
So far based on the temps on the system, it is helping with the contact between cpu etc and the heat sink.
You get wipes which you use to clean the old thermal paste off the cpu and heat sink.
Handy to have a thin plastic card or thin clean flat item to spread the paste once applied to the cpu, gpu etc.
Worth shortlisting if you need new thermal paste.

The ARCTIC MX-6 Thermal Paste delivers excellent performance for various applications, including CPUs, consoles, graphics cards, and laptops. Its very high thermal conductivity ensures efficient heat transfer, improving overall system cooling. The inclusion of 6 MX Cleaners is a nice bonus, aiding in the preparation and cleanup process. Additionally, its long durability and non-conductive, non-capacitive properties provide peace of mind. However, I deducted one star because the application process can be a bit messy and requires careful handling to avoid excess paste. Overall, it’s a top choice for those seeking reliable thermal performance for their electronic devices.

Used for a Ryzen 7 5800X3D and an NZXT AIO. Application was easy. Temperatures have been solid and haven’t fluctuated wildly, but TBH I haven’t really paid much attention. As long as the thing doesn’t thermal throttle I’m satisfied.

What you’ve read about the included cleaning wipes is true, they smell incredibly strong. I read reviews before using them so I prepared myself with some vinyl gloves. They certainly cleaned the old thermal paste off my AIO and old processor, but I don’t know if they it was any more effective than if I used isopropyl alcohol and some kitchen roll. The wipes have a very strong citrus smell which luckily didn’t hang around my PC case that long, but actually went through my gloves. Took a while for the odour to fully wash off my fingers. And throw the used wipes (and gloves) in a bin outside, I made the mistake of throwing them in the bin in my room and they made the room smell like a chemical lemon for a couple of days.

The smell others have reported with the wipes isn’t overpowering and smelt quite pleasant. Removed previous paste with ease.

Paste is on the thicker side to spread and would recommend a spatula to spread across the whole IHS.

Replaced the stock paste that came pre applied to my AIO and has dropped temps nicely on my 14900K.

    This stuff is really good.
A lot thicker to apply than MX4 but I saw a good 2-3 degree drops at idle in temps on my 5800x

    Can’t complain.

These come with some wipes that you use to clean up old thermal paste.
They do the job but my days….they stink the place out.

    An unreal difference in performance.

The product comes with wipes to remove the old paste and these are really good at removing it!! Smells weird and it has a lasting smell.

Really easy to apply and enough for a few applications on other electronics.

Great value for money and packaging is ideal size.

I would recommend this product more if I could.

I used it as an experiment, I have a 20 year old computer, that I wanted to stop from hearing the high-pitched fan kick in, when the heatsink got hot. That computer (with the thermal paste) is now outperforming the other much newer computers, on my network.

I recently upgraded my CPU cooler and decided to pair it with a new thermal compound, and I must say, I am thoroughly impressed with the results!

This thermal compound has exceeded all my expectations. Upon application, it spread smoothly and evenly, creating a thin and consistent layer between the CPU and the cooler. It ensured optimal heat transfer and maximum thermal conductivity, which significantly improved my CPU’s overall temperature management.

The performance gains were immediately noticeable. Under heavy loads, my CPU temperatures dropped noticeably, allowing for more stable and efficient operation. Even during intense gaming sessions or resource-intensive tasks, my CPU remained cool and maintained its peak performance without any throttling issues.

Bought this to repaste an aging RTX 2080 GPU that was heating up enough during normal gaming it turned the fans up to 100% or “747 on takeoff” speed judging by the noise coming out of it.

The wipes were enough to clear the old dried up paste that had done its diligence for the last 5 years, so quite handy if you don’t have a stock of ethanol ready to go for shifting old paste.

The MX-6 paste itself does a fantastic job. After the repasting and benchmarking (a good 30 mins on furmark), the fan speeds for the GPU went up to 50% but never higher.

Applied to this my 2 year old laptop which arguably I didn’t really need to do but the fans were coming on more and more with the standard laptop fan whine. Arctic is known as one of the best brands out there for thermal paste and it shows, I have a 10 degree temp drop on both cpu and gpu and now the fans are whisper quiet and only come on fully when I game. Highly recommend!

Not sure how or why my PC started throwing up overheating errors, it’s less than 9 months old and was built for me by a professional PC builder.
It’s had very little use but out of the blue I started to get the warnings pop up.
I contacted the builder and he recommended this thermal paste. I was very hesitant at first about attempting to mess with the internals. But it went pretty easy to remove the cooler and clean the old paste off and then apply the new paste. I’m now getting a temperature reading of between 40-65 at idle when before it was hitting 75-90.

Great paste as you would expect but those wipes….They are the worst things ever. They stunk out my whole house, imagine citronella mixed with diesel. I regret handling the wipes without gloves on, god knows what awful chemicals are being used. Plus it’s oily so makes a mess and doesn’t evaporate.

My advice, throw the wipes in the bin and use a kitchen paper towel dipped in alcohol instead.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI bought this as I would normally have used the mx-4 paste which is normally picked up for pretty cheap and is a great piece of paste.

I bought this as it’s the newest version which claims to be better at passing heat to the heatsink. I can safely say that this is much better than the already great mx-4. So far I’ve used it on a couple of gaming PCs and servers.

I wasn’t expecting this to have too much of an impact on reducing cpu temps, however after applying this, I can say I’m seeing temps drop as much as 20 degrees. I must admit the 20 degree drop was from a used gaming pc that had horrendous paste applied previously which most likely wasn’t changed at all.

On my servers I’m seeing a good 7-10 degree drop in CPU temp. This is fantastic.

The kit comes in a little box with the syringe of paste as well as a little pack of cleaning wipes. These made quick work of cleaning CPUs completely, I would normally use separate thermal paste cleaners and primers, however this kit was so handy, the wipes clean off paste as quick as a hot knife through butter. They smell like lemon and if you’ve used any similar cleaner then you’ll know the smell. I think it’s great.

All in all. Very happy with the product, will certainly be my go to as thermal paste from now on. From this pack I’ve changed 4 CPUs and there is obviously still lots left.

The paste itself isn’t watery, it’s not too thick either and spreads fantastic. There isn’t a spatula to spread the paste, I personally don’t use them but I know some would prefer this method. I just go for the blob in the middle and let the heatsinks spread it evenly.

I haven’t noticed much of a difference with idle temps (Ryzen 5 3600) but when doing standard tasks, and also gaming I am noticing lower top temps. After throwing Prime95 at my CPU for 10 minutes it hit 83c on the hottest spot. Not to sure if this is good for this chip, I am assuming it is having seen higher else where.

Either way it’s a great paste, I just don’t see much benefit over MX-4 however your mileage may vary

I went to a computer repair shop a week ago to have the thermal paste replaced, however, perhaps due to the poor skills of the repairers or the quality of the product they used, this caused my R7-5800H to reach 80 degrees even in standby mode. The fan had to run all the time to cool down the CPU. I had to buy this product and try replacing the thermal paste myself, which worked surprisingly well. Now my laptop is quiet again. It stays at 50 degrees in standby and below 70 degrees when I am running a high load game. Considering the huge amount of heat generated by the R7-5800H, this product has performed well enough. It is very easy to use and the viscosity is appropriate and will not cause you any problems.

The MX Cleaner purchased along with it cleans well, but the smell is very unpleasant, much like petrol mixed with chemicals. I think these drawbacks are negligible though as it is far cheaper than some well known products and perhaps performs even better.

Man! God knows what are in those wipes but they work a treat for cleaning of old thermal paste as well as making you house smell like a dentist and have you tripping balls all day after. They are some potent wipes as for the paste? Dropped nearly 10 degrees idle now rocking at 30 perfect job! Really good consistency of paste made spreading an easy job just needed a dob in the middle of the CPU no spreading necessary

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersBought to repaste an old, borked PS4 that sounded like a Boeing 747 on take off, whilst sitting on the menu screen. Paste texture was a little stiff initially but got better with a little working and I got a good spread without too much thickness.

PS4 at full load is now below the level of an old 360, idling. Not the best but the paste is definitely doing some heavy lifting.

    I am properly impressed.

Should I ever own an empire intent on repasting the world, would buy again. Otherwise, the 4g included in the package will repaste all your stuff and your neighbour’s happily. Possibly, half your neighbourhood.

I’ve grown three new thumbs just to give this five thumbs up.

Well, I usually use the thermal paste that is usually pre installed on the AIO. I had to reposition the tubes to install my new graphics card. My case is a SFF case so I had to maneuver the tubes around and that meant removing the pump head. I know that if you break the seal the contact is never the same so I bought some of this paste to use when the time came for the install. After I installed and completed my first run up my temps were 8 degrees cooler. I’m blown away at this product, and now I will always use this in any of my builds. Plus the really cool part, is they include their wipe pads for cleaning old paste off your CPU and contact block so there’s no need to buy alcohol or paper towels. Yeah I know I’m cheap.

Original gave a bad review due to seeing no difference between this and MX-4 HOWEVER after switching to liquid metal saw worse temps on my gaming laptop I immediately switched back to this, after applying a generous amount more than the pea size I have seen massive temp drops going from 45-50 idle to 30-33 and seeing gaming temps around 60-75 now on less intense games. It’s clear this product benefits laptops with more generous amounts. My best guide is apply a small pea size, place the heatsink ontop and immediately check again to see how it spread. If you see areas still not efficiently covered add another pea size amount and that should be all good! MX is cheap, plentiful, durable and very reliable!

First time buying thermal paste and after watching a few videos and reading reviews decided to try this and spend the extra $1 for the wipes. Was super easy to remove old paste (which was already pre applied too fan when I bought the CPU) with the wipes. But be sure to do it outside cause it is strong. But it did help bring my temps down idle i was in the 60’s and gaming in the 80’s before now im in 40’s and gaming full load im in 60’s highest it hit was 73.3 but quickly dropped. With this PC going up for sale in the next few months wanted the next user to have fresh paste and clean PC that also was getting decent temps when gaming. I think I made right choice going with this paste. Definitely going to use in the next build! This is also with stock cooler and 1 exhaust and 1 intake fan so still good in my opinion probably even better temps with AIO or more fans.

I have had noticeably lower temperatures after applying this thermal paste to my system. The paste has markings on the side of the tube to show the proper amount to apply if unsure.

I did use the Artic cleaning wipes that came with it, although the smell is vile and continuous. I would not buy the product particularly for the cleaning wipes, as the same can be achieved with isopropyl without the smell. They did actually clean well, but not enough to justify the downside.

  57. FinnBettencourt says:

Let me start off by saying I wasn’t planning on picking up the kit with the thermal paste wipes but I’m glad I did… one wipe takes off all of your paste No joke. Say bye to paper towel with isopropyl alcohol , or isopropyl alcohol lens wipes that takes 2-3 minutes and 3+ wipes to get off. The thermal paste wipes do have a chemical odor to them, I’d just advise placing them in a plastic bag then taking it out like cat litter afterwards, or it may make the trash in the household stink a little. The smell is worth the ease for removing old/preapplied paste.

Can’t really say how much better this paste is than my old corsair tm-30 paste since I did upgrade from a 240mm aio to a 360. But its thermal paste, just works. Does seem to be high quality stuff, a little viscous but still easy to work with and not a headache. Chose to spread it with a thermal paste spreader due to the viscosity that I wasn’t used to, instead of letting pressure from screwing the waterblock on doing the spreading.

Will buy this again if/when I run out as long as arctic doesnt come out with an mx-7!

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersWhen I used mx5 I did not see an improvement over mx4 least not a clear one, maybe peaks weren’t as high or whatever but nothing notable. I know that mx5 had issues where some customers had performance the same as MX4 or worse while the product was supposed to have performance slight better than mx4 by a degree or two and that this issue stemmed in part from the paste separating it’s liquid and solid parts. I personally experienced this separation but mx5 performed acceptably for me so I didn’t mind.

I literally just put mx6 on I will say it was significantly easier to put on than mx5 but still on the thicker side of pastes. I would describe putting on MX5 as spreading refrigerated peanut butter while spreading mx6 is like spreading peanut butter on a hot summer day and mx4 is like spreading melting peanut butter on piping hot toast. I also noticed upon starting up my system that temperatures are noticeably lower at least when idling. When using mx5 on start up and a few mins after while idling, MX5 had my CPU sitting at 35-38 C usually hovering around 37. With Mx6 I see temperatures as low as 33 degrees at start. and temperatures ranging from 34.9 (basically 35 but I want to note that it dips down to the 34s which never happened with mx5) to 37 C with it appearing most comfortable at 35 C. Mind you I was tweaking my CPU before my paste arrived so my temperature readings between using mx5 and mx6 are like two days apart. So yeah, prior to curing (idk if mx5 or 6 even have cure times) mx6 appears to be measurably superior and IDK if that’s because MX5 was actually bad or I happened to get a tube of mx5 that was affected by the QC issues that resulted in it’s discontinuation (remember my mx5 did separate).

I brought this paste mainly because it also came with the cleaning wipes. Nothing wrong this the paste it’s good quality, but having the cleaning wipes in the same package swayed me.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersAs a techie who usually builds their own computers, I’ve known about Arctic for awhile but only recently became a customer after purchasing a tube of MX-5 (then a P12 fan, shortly after). My experience of applying another company’s paste on an install is limited to only a couple of other brands as thermal paste application isn’t exactly one of my pastimes, so I’m going to compare & contrast this w/ MX-5. Besides, what better way to help inform readers whether a product is worth purchasing or not than to scrutinize it against its own predecessor? While partly out of convenience, it’s still a pertinent assessment, especially so when considering this is not only the successor but also the replacement, after all. This review will also discuss what seems to be the consensus “best” paste by overclocking enthusiasts, YouTubers, and “influencers”, etc. (should note this is exclusive to non-conductive TIM, so no liquid metals). A product which despite its YUGE following and noteworthy sponsorship, has a FAR too little discussed caveat (a massive dealbreaker, IMHO, and one that has significant implications for the IHS/die it’s been applied on, and the potential post-install ‘maintenance’ risk it comes with). Also, I don’t have any info in regards to performance data (CPU upgrade so unfortunately no baseline), so if you’re looking for metrics, you’ll have to look elsewhere (Tom’s Hardware is a good start).

After researching way too many thermal paste comparison tests, MX-5 was at or near the top of just about every single one it was included in and for those that it wasn’t (due to being too new), MX-4 consistently ranked as one of the better pastes with a solid if unspectacular showing but when taking into account its age, durability, price and how much newer the products it was competing against were, MX-4 was a compelling package offered at an affordable price. A couple of contenders at the top included Thermal Grizzly’s Kryonaut, and the two offerings from Noctua (H1/H2). Personally, the main appeal to Arctic’s formulas for me was its longevitiy, which they claim lasts as long as 8 years, and the only other option which can even come close to approaching that long, comes from Noctua. Even then, (while still impressive) they could only reach 5 years. It’s no coincidence these two belong to what I consider to be the top three cooling companies in the industry, IMO. In no chronological order, the third is Scythe, a Japanese company known for making EXCELLENT heatsinks and case fans that are quiet (if not silent), and whose Fuma 2 happens to be the cooler I chose in this case (no pun intended), which sat on top of these pastes in my build. While I am def not gonna pay Thermal Grizzly’s ridiculous prices ($10/gram for an application, maybe 2 if conservative) out of priniciple, most importantly was for every 5 star review of Kryonaut (including its appropriately named “EXTREME” version) by someone claiming they achieved their lowest recorded temps with it, there would be a few 1-2 star reviews complaining about it drying out, and even turning hard after removing the heatsink. What was most concerning tho, was the fact that this was happening in under a year, usually within months. Their own product page states “Kryonaut uses a special structure, which halts the drying out process at temperatures of up to 80 Celsius”, while also mentioning “that this thermal grease was created especially for cryogenic applications.” So yeah, even tho they admit this crucial detail themselves, to say that this is a frequently overlooked aspect (judging by the consistent surprise in negative reviews, yet still seeing it recommended by others all too frequently) would be putting it kindly. I don’t mind paying a few extra bucks for a quality product, as evidenced by MX-6’s price increase, particularly compared to MX-4 (at launch this was $10 for the 4g tube of MX-6 + 5 wipes), but there is certainly a limit, and ESPECIALLY so if the product has to be replaced at least ONCE a YEAR. Ain’t nobody got time for that.

While I can unequivocally say that this is better than MX-5, that is a pathetically low bar and hurdle to pass, one that is more indicative of its predecessor’s failures than anything else. I’ve already mentioned why I’m unable to measure performance, but what I CAN compare are the physical characteristics, especially as it pertains to MX-5, and to a lesser degree MX-4, which I haven’t applied on an install but have owned a tube of, and thus have seen its consistency on paper. This MX-6 seems almost like a hybrid of MX-5 and MX-4, but leaning significantly more towards the former. It’s still very sticky, just not AS sticky, which helps with the application. MX-4 was much more akin to a normal paste, smooth and easy to move around. This is a THICK paste, substantially thicker than its predecessors, but still stringy enough to spread around unlike MX-5, yet not nearly as easy as MX-4 (but at least still doable, and can be achieved with some time). It’s hard to gauge MX-5 because it’s simultaneously viscous and watery, which I believe is due to the separation (and reason for its recall) if not entirely then at least partially, which made it weird to spread and resistant to emulsify. Spreading it with the spatula was almost like dipping a recently used paintbrush in water, then attempting to paint a clean surface with it. Or, like using a basting brush (aka pastry brush, TIL), the ones that come with BBQ sauce in those gift sets, to glaze meat but w/ barely any sauce left. And that’s if you’re even able to spread at all (it’s somewhat doable, depending on your experience ofc, but you’ll def need a tool like a spatula or credit card and a lot of patience, along w/ time). Another difference is the color. MX-4 is the typical gray, while MX-5 was like a light, almost turquoise blue. MX-6 return back to the (more pleasant if not dull) gray, a welcome change IMO. Something I noticed and thought was interesting is that Arctic advertises this by stating it has 20% better performance than MX-4, although this could be simply due to MX-5 no longer being in production means the former is the closest product in their lineup to compare with (excluding MX-2). One aspect different from its predecessors is that it does NOT come with the spreading spatula for some reason. Due to the chiplet design of Ryzen on AM4, I used that tool to spread a very thin layer, referred to as the “spread method”, predominantly around the edges of the IHS. Then, I use a miniaturized version of the “X” method, that doesn’t go all the way to the edges, and thus is almost half as small. Finally, I place a decent sized blob (aka the pea method) in the center. I have no scientific knowledge or verifiable proof that this works best, and I’m sure you could remove one of the three options and still obtain good coverage. Everyone has their personal beliefs, opinions and philosophies on thermal paste, but due to the processor design I find this is what works for me, as the previous application had very good coverage after taking it off. AMD actually recommends a pentadot which I’ve used and resulted in decent coverage, and which formed the basis of mine. If it were an Intel (Alder/Raptor Lake) or even a Threadripper, I’d prolly just use the X method due to its rectangular shape and call it a day.

MX-5 was like straight up glue, even during application, and ESPECIALLY AFTER. This was exactly what I feared after install, was the day it had to come off. I ran stress (more like torture) tests, specifically Prime95 until my processor reached 95C and stayed there for about 30 minutes before shutting down and then was very careful removing the cooler, while making sure to twist it side to side before pulling. Yet despite all that, it still took the CPU off with it, so after removing off the cooler, I was still unable to separate the CPU from it using anything, including dental floss (both Glide and regular), eventually warming it with a hair dryer (heat gun should work, just be careful w/ the distance at very high temperatures and move it around) on it for about five minutes or so. I gave it another try w/ the regular floss and finally, I was able to remove the CPU w/o any bent pins.

While I’m mentioning all this in case anyone else reading this used glue (aka MX-5) or is stuck in a similar situation, it’s also for those considering the wipes option for this purchase. So if wondering whether you should purchase 5 of these wipes for about a buck (and ESP so if worried about removing stuck thermal paste that’s been glued onto your cooler)? If it’s safe to assume the fact that you’re contemplating this likely means you have a use for it, then my answer would be an emphatic YES! They’re pretty large and good sized once removed from packaging, have plenty of liquid that won’t immediately dry out so you have a few minutes, and each one goes a long way. Just be warned they have a weird and pugent smell. Personally, something as minor as that is never a reason to avoid a product if it performs better than a non-smelling product, but I always see this mentioned in reviews and even factored into the score, so thought it should be noted. I only used one even after that nightmare of a removal mentioned above, until I remembered there was still some gunk left on my Wraith Stealth after replacing it w/ the Fuma, and opted to open a 2nd one. A single wipe goes a long way, which is why I believe that if you have a need for it, it’s worth purchasing due to the value provided for a single dollar and some change.

Anyway, if you made it all the way here to the end, I hope this was helpful for you. Good luck.

Apuesta asegurada.

i bought the mx-6 to replace the mx-5 i used previously and i’m pretty shocked by how much better it performs compared to the mx-5. i’ve noticed about a 3-4c drop and i really didn’t expect that much of an improvement. i can understand why they end of life the mx-5. mx-6 is thicker than mx-5 but still easy to spread but the nice thing about it not being as liquid as mx-5 means its a lot less messy. its the right amount of thick.

the included cleaners i’m pretty blown away with too. i use to 70% iso pad’s then moved over to noctua’s cleaners and these arctic ones are now my new favorite ones. they do have a strong smell but man do they clean extremely well. it wiped off the mx-5 with ease and didn’t cause any of it to run off. with how liquid the mx-5 is i was a bit nervous of it dripping off and getting under my 5900x and into the socket but the arctic cleaner pads just wiped it right up without any smearing or making it run. the smell does go away once the cleaner dries up and it doesn’t leave any residue at all. made my 5900x look all nice and shiny. i used it to clean around the socket, my ram sticks, and my vrm heatsinks on my motherboard to wipe off dust and make it look all nice a clean. did an excellent job.

    just wow
