I love bats, so these are right up my street to lure more of them to live in my secret lair. Simple enough to plant, these should reap a particularly lovely crop.
The seed bombs are quite small, but any bigger you’ll wonder what breed of bat you’re attracting.
I’m lucky enough to sometimes get bats in my garden in late summer, and it’s lovely to see them at dusk but I’ve never really thought about how I could attract more.
These seed balls come as a pack of 3 and contain flowers that are usually strong scented, especially at night. I’m presuming that this is meant to attract the insects that bats like to hunt.
The boxes are like small matchboxes and contain six of the seed balls in each one. They are quite small, a little larger than a peanut and they do look a bit like chocolate, so probably should be kept away from young children.
The ground is too frozen at the moment to plant these but I can see a few seeds embedded within them. I like that these look like a more personalised gift and not so generic — unusual idea for those who like gardening / attracting wildlife.
Haven’t tried to grow anything from these yet, but these small cute small boxes are perfect stocking fillers.
3 x matchbox size wildflower mix boxes to hopefully attract bats. Great idea and hopefully we see some bats in our garden.
These kind of seed balls have become very popular in recent years. Calling these particular ones a “bat mix” is a slightly strange advertising angle perhaps – the idea is of course that these flowers which are fragrant at night will attract insects which will in turn provide food for bats, but having a healthy insect population is good for no end of reasons.
You get a box with three smaller ‘matchboxes’ inside, each of which contains six seed balls (there’s space to fit another two or three in there, they could have been a bit more generous) plus a small instruction leaflet – they’re the kind of thing which can be individually given out as stocking filler presents, and when it’s this simple there’s really no excuse for not helping wildlife – simply toss on a spare bit of ground or pot filled with compost and water.
It says that there is chilli in the balls which will deter slugs and snails from chomping the seedlings – this is the first I’ve ever heard of this after years of (unsuccessfully) researching ways of trying to deter them, and I hope this is genuinely true as that would be an easy, inexpensive and eco-friendly way of protecting seedlings if so.
It also says that the seeds are “naturally protected” against birds because they start to germinate within the clay balls and the seedlings then break out. I’m slightly sceptical of this notion, but we shall see.
Seedlings are said to sprout in 2-4 weeks after scattering and watering, though this isn’t the time of year (end of November) to attempt this and will have to wait another couple of months or so.
Ok, so these are a seed bomb pack — difficult to review until it all happens when they germinate and grow.
These arrived well protectively packaged and in good time — so I will add to this review when it all happens…. just loving nature.
Cute but small. Comes match box size which is fine. And get three boxes. I think the price is fine for this.
Much like so much of our wildlife, bats have suffered hugely from mass urbanisation, removal of hedge lines and the sterilisation of our gardens.
Thankfully, products like these wildflower mix seed bombs from Seedball can and do make a difference, no matter how small it may be.
These seed bombs are the perfect gift for anyone – they can be used in any setting; in your garden, out on your balcony, in an unused and unloved bit of land and they require little to no help from us to grow – just a patch of soil and some water and nature does the rest.
The plants included in these seed bombs all give off lovely fragrances at night which attract the bats. And they also all have beautiful flowers to be enjoyed by us during the day.
Beyond the amazing thing you’ll be doing by using these seed bombs, you’ll also get a really great experience from the product design and branding. I love that each set of 6 bombs arrive in cute little matchbox sized pull out boxes with a bat motif and the literature included is beautifully illustrated and provides easy to follow instructions.
I’ve bought from and have received seed bombs from Seedball in the past and I love the experience and the results every time 🙂
These are beautiful tiny matchbox size giftboxes to distribute amongst friends at Christmas. There are tiny cards that wish the recipient happy scattering.
We haven’t scattered anything yet but are looking forward to it. And we will definitely experiment with a pot on the windowsill.
Excellent idea.
Such cute packaging. You get 3 adorable little match box like boxes of seedballs with a little image of a bat on it.
All cardboard or paper. No plastic used.
Love the idea of just chucking them out and seeing what grows. Particularly excited that they are aimed for bats. We see a couple circling mine and next doors garden every now and again.
Really lovely idea, product and packaging. Great stocking fillers too, although mine are already thrown in the beds to see what happens.
Three boxes of seed balls, suitable to attract insects that bats feed on.
You get three matchbox size boxes, decorated with a bat, each with six seed balls inside. Every seed ball contains approximately 30 seeds from a mix of Borage, Cornflower, Corn marigold, Evening primrose, Wallflower and Night-scented stock. And because of the type of plants, some won’t flower till the following year, so be patient. The seed balls are made with clay and chilli powder, to protect the seeds from predators, increasing the chances of your plants growing. This I didn’t know about chilli powder, slugs and snails hate it, so I’ll be using it myself in the garden, as long as the hedgehog doesn’t mind it.
Just scatter the balls in your garden or plant in pots, and water them in, the clay will then break down and the seeds will grow through it.
A great gift idea or stocking filler.
