The system is good value, easy to set up using the app, and is accurate enough for my needs. The app gives current readings, but if you want a graph, you press the graph button in the data readout in the app, so I normally have a book marked web page to my free Ecowitt account which shows all the graphs up front with a wide range of scale options.

We have a couple of greenhouses. What I really like is the easy addition of extra temperature/humidity sensors which are inexpensive. Just set a channel number (1-8), put in some batteries and the data appears in the app. I can also set up temperature alerts for when the sun comes out.

The external temperature/humidity sensor failed after three months, but the Ecowitt support team responds to requests within hours and sent me a new sensor free of charge which was simple to fit.

The only tweak I would like is the ability to set my own order for the graphs in the website, maybe I just haven’t worked out how to do it yet.

As you may have guessed, I am delighted with the system and would recommend it.

Really easy to set up and web interface/app is awesome. Really, really cool with the API as well which basically makes automation/integration possibilities endless. Haven’t been able to test the accuracy of the sensors but they seem to provide sensible measurements (except wind but that might be a result of where I placed the station)

Only drawback would be a peculiar design of the receiver that doesnt really allow for wall mounting and that receiver/sensor combinations seem to be a bit limited.

Such devices give you an extra insight into your local weather. Note though that this is a measurement device and not a forecast device insofar as it measures, out of the box, rainfall, wind speed and direction and temperature.

The user interface is clean, crisp and communicative. Setting up the wifi connection takes a little patience but takes <5mins.

Easy to install in the garden.

What is particularly nice is the use of your mobile device to display data. We're trying hard to reduce our consumption of more plastic, more screens, more stand alone connected devices and for us this product at sub 100 meant that we had alter data on any device of our choosing

    Consigliata!!

If you are installing south of the equator, make sure you read the couple of lines that state to face the arrow WEST, not east. I missed it, so back on the roof I went to readjust. Pain in the neck when one is 75yo and the roof peak is 5.5m above the ground!

Brought as a Christmas gift. Recipient very happy with the hardware and software so far. However the app refuses to allow registration. While not a major issue it is still annoying.

I love the product. The only suggestion I have / change I would like to make = the wind details (speed and direction are small and hard to read from a distance compared to the other weather details. Where I live the wind details are important to me. Actually, it would be good if the screen was able to be personalised with the size and location on the screen adjustable…but then it would be a much more expensive product. I hope it lasts longer than the previous one I had.

I must admit I bout this on a whim. But now I can see how hot / cold it will be when I got home. As well tracks data, charts and history when connected to web app.

I had one of these but unfortunately the temperature sensor died after 3 years.
I really like the station, it works well and you can download all the details from the weathercloud of your choice (I use wunderground and ecowitt). The app allows you to connect to (in my case) both and see the current situation as well as history.
Let’s hope the sensors last a bit longer this time.

I was looking for an anemometer with a data logger to record wind speed above my house. I could not find a suitable instrument that was anywhere close to my budget until I found this weather station. I got my wind data for a fraction of the price. Great deal, good equipment and so simple to set up.

So I have used ethernet not wifi to setup this, that could not be simpler, simply plug it in and it’s good to go almost instantly. Did not come with a power supply for the hub which is a shame, just a usb cable. Easy to install but uses a 1 inch connection but a 22mm pipe and a bit of duct tape sorts that. I have some concerns that the unit could get lifted from the pipe in very high winds so I taped down the heater cable as well which should stop that. Seems to be reasonably accurate so far in readings but only low winds at the moment and no rain to test it with. I also got the lightning sensor which was also simple to add. simply add batteries and the hub detected and added it instantly.

Installation was easy and straight forward. Setup was ok for me but I’m techy. Followed the instructions and no issue. Accuracy is great. I think the app could be a little prettier, it’s a bit plain looking. Straight forward just data.

Had one of these for a couple of years which I purchased direct from the manufacturer. This one was purchased to replace it after it suffered damage.
Minimal assembly and although the wi-fi Setup can be fiddly if not done right it was up and running quickly. Using the app I’ve got my weather data uploading to the Metoffice Weather Observation Website, Wunderground Weather, Ecowitt and Weather Cloud.

Golden Review Award: 24 From Our UsersFirstly, I am pretty pleased with the weather station (WS69 and Wireless gateway GW1100) for the price I paid. It’s a good bit of amateur kit and reports everything you might want and more.

However it took me a week or two to realise that out of the box the values reported were not accurate, in some cases not even close. For example, here on a freezing day I was getting values of -5.3C when a standard (liquid) outdoor thermometer was reporting -2.0C, the closest public weather station (10 miles away) was also reported -2.0C. A comparison of atmospheric pressure values from ‘nearby’ weather stations also had a 7hPa/mb disparity. The station does allow for offsets/calibration to be done, but this is a catch 22 – if you’re an amateur buying your first weather station you won’t have the equipment with which to obtain accurate measurements to do that calibration – especially for things like rain measurement, wind speed etc. As it currently stands I don’t even know if some of the readings are correct or not because I have no means of comparison.

If the idea is that you calibrate against nearby public weather stations I see an issue – if I have a close enough weather station reporting accurate weather data for my location, why would I even need my own weather station? Am I supposed to install my weather station next to a public station for a period of time so I can adjust the values to match?!?

If the weather station came properly calibrated from the factory then I’d have no hesitation in recommending it, however with the significant inaccuracies I found out of the box and the need to do your own calibration I’d have to caution against it – unless you’re prepared to put in time/effort required.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersGreat device after a week’s use. How long it will survive is hard to tell but it seems very well made. The manufacturers let themselves down badly by the awful instructions. A single sheet covering an array of models which really serves to confuse rather than instruct. Best thing new buyers can do is not look at the instructions but just download the app and let it take you through the installation, even then you have to keep your wits about you. Once connected and working it is a great thing to have.

Instructions weren’t very clear so setup wasn’t too easy but never the less I worked it out. It’s been on my roof for a couple of months now and hasn’t missed a beat. Data seems reliable and accurate. Easy to view the data on the different apps

Okay, it’s hard to set up the WIFI you need to switch off 5GHz and make sure you are on 2.4 GHz. You can switch the 5GHz back on when you are done.
Station ID is the device name.
Instructions are a little confusing as regards set up but the installation and connection from the weather station to the sensor works fine.

Easy to set up and as a bonus the wifi display I had for my previous weather station this one replaced automatically picked up its info when I turned it on. The app is detailed and easy to use.

I bought this predominantly to measure rainfall at a holiday house that is on tank water. It has been faultless. It connects to the home wifi and has been uploading to the free Ecowitt weather site as per the instructions for over 12 months now. The solar power obviously works as it still reports the sensor battery as “normal”. I don’t use the mobile app other than the for initial setup – I just view the graphs etc on the Ecowitt weather website.

The most difficult thing was aligning the sensor direction with a compass so the wind direction is accurate. The process is straight forward but difficult because I was on a ladder and our roof is metal interfering with the compass. Make sure you have a compass or accurately know which was is north before you start!

Golden Review Award: 30 From Our UsersThe setup of this thing is not at all straight forward.

Firstly you need to understand the basic concept of this all the communications work.

The station itself is not WiFi enabled. It communicates like a cordless phone to the gateway and the gateway connects to the internet.

The gateway has no screen and no web interface, so you use an iPhone app to configure it.

The app is really clunky and it takes a lot of playing around to work out how it works.

When you add a device it works like this:

    1. The app records your current WiFi SSID (which is often a 5g radio that doesn’t work with the gateway).
    2. It tells you to put the gateway into connect mode, but won’t allow you to move on until the app determines you have switched from the app to something else (presumably your phone settings).
    3. Once connected to the gateway if pre-enters the recorded SSID, which hopefully was a 2.4G WiFi radio.
    4. You enter the WiFi password (you can also enter settings like WeatherUnderground on the same screen, which is cumbersome because these are often long complex strings).
    5. The App reports that the connection worked, but then does nothing else.
    6. As the Ecowitt cloud service uses the MACID of the device you need to logon to that portal and register the MACID (rather than using an ID/password pair like all the other services).
    7. The app shows no weather data unless you have also setup WeatherUnderground (the app doesn’t use the Ecowitt data for some crazy reason).
    8. When you try and find your own device in the App it shows nothing at first because evidently it is doing a scan of your network which takes some time, but because there is no indication a search is happening you give up before the gateway is discovered. If for some insane reason you waited for 30 seconds it will appear.

If you email support they get back to you, but you don’t get an email to confirm your request so that is also confusing. There is also no web portal for support.

Basically, this whole setup is what you’d expect from a product designed by a bunch of technical people who know what they are doing but have nothing but contempt for the average user.

It could all be fixed with a rewrite of the app, a Wiki and support using Zendesk.

Once you know how this all works you will be very happy with it. Perhaps most people who buy these things are technical people who have the patience to work it all out, but if that isn’t you, don’t expect this thing to be plug and play like your average Apple accessory.

When another brand’s server went belly up and our gear was offline and null and void were didn’t want to be caught out, again. We researched a replacement for almost 2yrs before finally taking the plunge. This has been faultless so far and is a wonder set up. The alternate weather station site uploads is a plus and their own provides the ability to capture all the connected sensors. The APP is only works for local definitions/setup from within your own network. But, external their our website viewer is excellent. It would be nice if the APP could also switch between ‘local’ and ‘internet’ feeds.

The product works very well. Takes a little while to set up with your network but once on there it has not dropped off. The only issue is sometimes it seems to lose connectivity to the App on your phone or tablet, however restarting the app seems to fix this issue immediately so no big deal.
Mostly seems to happen if you leave the network with your phone and then come back

Works well as a weather station. Set up was a bit confusing at first, but once solved it works well. Important to note that the only way to read the weather station is via the web browser, using the gateway, or an app on phone.

The browser interface via ecowitt is good, and allows you to view historical data.

Great price for an internet connected weather station. The setup on the USB device can be a little tricky, but overall it does what it needs to do at the right price. It’s fantastic that you can add more temperature sensors, but be sure to get the WH31 (not WH32) sensors as this device already has outdoor temp.

So far accuracy is excellent. Sensors paired very easily with excellent range. All sensors, PM2.5, soil moisture, indoor temp humidity etc reported to ecowitt.net, which is better than weather underground. Set up was easy enough, and now I am glad I didnt order the unit with a power hungry dust gathering display.
I dont think you can get the functions of this unit any where near this price from anywhere else.

Very accurate and quite easy to set up. I am pleasantly surprised with the unit. However, I am in a windy coastal location and as such having a rain gauge built in was not the best idea for me. For example I had 1.8mm recorded rainfall last 24hrs but my neighbor with a separate rain gauge recorded 24.5mm. It’s a catch 22 of having it located high and clear for accurate wind speed and direction but the cost of this is under reported rain rain figures. Otherwise I am happy with it.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersIt took about an hour to configure the weather station and get it working. Once I set my router to give out an IP Address (DHCP turned on) it worked perfectly. It took me a further couple of hours to find the right place in our yard to mount the weather station so it was in a good position to record the wind speed and still be able to communicate with the Ecowitt Control module in my office. I was able to setup my account on Ecowitt.net in a few minutes and data was received on the web site in minutes.
The whole exercise was quite simple and straight forward, but you must read the instructions carefully.
    The product is highly recommended.

The last weather station I set up was over 20 years ago, running a very long RS232 cable and having to keep my PC turned on.

But how the times have changed. This one took 30 minutes to set up … (honestly I could have done it in 15 minutes if the instructions had been in a larger font format)

Plugging the receiver into the USB port on my Internet box was easy. I got a bit stuck on the WS View app set up screens until I figured out it often had more further down the screen out of sight.

I would have liked some sections of interlocking pipe tube in the box, there was room. I used an old garden solar light 2m stand for the pipe, stuck in an old garden umbrella stand.

It’s working great and I’m now thinking of buying a couple more for presents.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersThe weather station was supplied with the wind vane set screw missing. The remedy by Ecowitt support in the U.S. was prompt and polite.

The instrument appears to be accurate and of good quality. Since it is configured for the northern hemisphere its orientation and wind direction setting need to be reversed for the southern hemisphere where I live. When installed with the requisite precision for scientific instruments, the data from the station appear to be accurate and consistent, and the historic graphs stored on the web server are detailed, useful and easy to interpret. I consider the weather station to be good value for its price.
