When I am playing games my spacebar will get stuck or my D key after I have pressed it, which is not cool at all and it definitely isn’t good when I am typing for school and it puts about 1000 letters down my pages(not even kidding).
Overall the keyboard is pretty decent, but because of the key issues I will be returning it, I have seen other reviewers say this has happened to them as well. Been using it for about a day and it hasn’t gotten better and it makes my gameplay very difficult. This would be a minor inconvenience if gaming wasn’t my hobby, so I do spend most of my day at my computer either working or gaming.
Some minor problems I have with it is the fact that the keycaps do not allow light to shine through the letters and I really enjoy having that and I didn’t want to buy another keycap set. Also the EPOMAKER logo only has certain presents and it really ruins the purple vibe I wanted, so I just turned the RPG off on it. You can only set it to cycle through colors. A good thing though is the RPG is very bright and saturated considering the keys set inside the case and I have the flamingo switches. I know much can’t compete with razers RBG, but it is pretty nice. (Because I have the color purple set, you can’t tell it doesn’t shine through, but it really doesn’t at all 🙁 )
I guess you get what you get and I might have gotten my hopes up too much sadly. I really wanted a budget wireless hot swappable keyboard and it ticked all my boxes. Though if anyone is worried about the software it seems they have improved it greatly and fixed a lot of issues that I had seen in earlier reviews.
Hope this helps anyone, I’m not saying every keyboard is going to have this issue, so it is still a great keyboard for the price and that is why I kept the rating at a 4, I don’t think it deserves less. I just jumped the gun too fast and definitely need to do some more research.
Sounds great, best keyboard I have ever had if ur thinking about getting it u should it’s good quality keyboard, rgb looks great bunch of different rgb modes the 2.4ghz dongle is handy and it has 5.0 bluetooth and u can also use usbc to usb for the keyboard too so u get alot of options if u have more then one device that u want to use it on at the same time. just press a couple of buttons on the keyboard to switch through the connection modes and the rgb modes super easy
Switches are pre-lubed. Extremely good quality, I got the gateron red switch, they are a nice feedback and they are pretty sensible when you type on them.
I would definitely recommend this keyboard as a good, not so expensive gear for everybody that type a lot on the keyboard.
Hello, this is my first and only mechanical keyboard so far. I’ve used it for about 6 months now. I use it mainly for gaming (FPS) and work. I have Gateron Yellow Pros for the switches and I love it!!
Mods added:
+ 2x O-rings for each keycap (I like how this dampened the sound a lot, and reduce travel distance)
+ Lube
Pros:
+ Straight out of the box, it’s great (but the mods made it waay better)
+ feels buttery smooth
+ low actuation force. Doesn’t tire your fingers out from long typing/gaming.
+ Switch tools included.
+ Great RGB light customization. Can change speed, color and patterns. Looks very pretty.
+ Device switching from my PC to work laptop is seamless and easy to set up.
+ knob for volume control.
Cons:
+ About 3 switches were faulty but there were 5 extra replacement included, so no star deducted.
+ Gateron Yellow pros should be pre-lubed – but I still had to lube them, it made a big difference.
– qualit gnrale/ finition

What I bought:
TH80 SE Black Silver + Flamingo Switches.
Starting off, this will be from the perspective of a somewhat enthusiast. Stabilizers were perfectly lubed, especially the spacebar (really could hear the deep “thock”). Possibly the best factory lube job I’ve heard at this price range.
RGB effects were good, and it is a north-facing board. If you are working in dark places, this isn’t the board for you as the stock keycaps aren’t shine-through – try out the barebones kit and get your own shine-through keycaps.
“Gasket Mount” is an extreme misrepresentation of this board – yes, it is mounted with gaskets, but there is no flex. Whatsoever. Not a deal breaker for me, but I just wanted to point that out.
As for the Flamingo Switches, they have a clack/poppy sound profile. High pitched, and in the 60-70db range from an inch away. Spacebar has a much deeper sound though, which I like. Smooth as butter. Of course, there are many other switch options, so choose which one suits you the best.
I’ve already modded the board – no screws required, but you need to pry apart the board with a pry tool or something thin like tweezers. Included foam is thin, so adding more won’t hurt. The tape mod (Tempest) helps bring out the sound of the switches. Great keyboard for beginners and intermediates.
Conclusion? Excellent value – I would strongly recommend it to anyone looking for a budget/mid-tier enthusiast board, great for modding as well.
I really love my new keyboard. I was planning on modding this keyboard. But when I got it, phewwweee, ha, it is pretty great. I am not going to mod it. Sounds nice. Feels nice. Looks nice. The switches are nice. I love the way the keys sound on this keyboard. The space bar sounds so good too. The LED’s are nice. I love typing on it. I am trying to find things to type.
If you are trying to mod this, just know that there are no screws. It is like a pop in type thing so just make sure you got like a flat thing to try n pry it open. You might scratch it up. But it is on the bottom so that may not be a super problem. I’m really glad I don’t need to mod it.
There is also no indication of the switch on the bottom of bluetooth and wifi connector. So like you don’t really know which mode it is on. Unless you try it out. but its easy to find out. so not really a problem.
Over all really nice keyboard. I love it. 😀
I’ve had the TH66 Wireless Mechanical Keyboard by Epomaker for about a week now.
I’ve loved every moment of it.
In the pictures I put on some Black Lotus PBT key caps to really bring the board to life.
Sounds amazing out of the box, however I ended up Tape, BandAid modding the PCB and changing the switches to Gateron Milky Yellow (Linear) switches to make it more of a light rain sound. Also tape modded the spacebar to make it virtually silent on press.
Literally only 6 screws in this keeb, super easy to pull apart and put back together.
Stabs are pre-lubed – enough for them to not need anything done to them.
Really thin PE foam in the base – Not a lot of room to add more, but it doesn’t really need it.
Rotary Knob – Feels very premium.
Semi-Gasket mount – very solid and not a lot of play when pressing down on the keys.
Light bleed – LEDs shine through the sides of the case a fair bit, a little off putting at night. Takes away from the nice look of the board.
Beautiful board and great for people starting out in the custom mechanical keyboard world.
Works seamlessly via Bluetooth, USB-cable, or USB-dongle. Feels sturdy and solid, keys are thocky and responsive. Also, when using Bluetooth up to three devices are supported, and swapping between them is really easy.
LED lighting is cool, not my thing so I am a bit bothered by the charging light that comes when hooked up via cable (I’d like the option to turn it off). That said, the LED lighting looks really good, is customizable and simple!
Only real issue I have is that it seems to be hard to find localized keycap replacements (I was hoping EPOMAKER would have these for sale, but no cigar).
I’m still getting used to the spacing on the keyboard, overall I think I’ll get used to it but for now the “integrated” arrow keys are still causing some typos/misclicks for me.
I usually don’t do reviews but I thought I should make one about this….
Even though I bought the keyboard with tactile switches (Budgerigar) instead of my preferred linear switches, I was fairly surprised at how my mistake turned into a surprising delight.
– The Budgerigar switches made the keyboard sound fairly “thocky”, which is what most enthusiasts strive to make their keyboard sound. Though in my opinion, they sounded close to “clacky” out of the box. But using this board since I bought it, I’ve decided they are “thocky” out of the box. There were three extra switches that were included. Spring ping was bad for four switches on the board.
– The keyboard comes with a switch puller and keycaps puller along with three extra switches, a 2.4ghz dongle, a white straight wire also for connectivity, and decorated keycaps (with window command?).
– Hot-swappable with 3 to 5-pin switches.
– Dual-stage risers. Yum.
– Stabilizers were solid on the board with lots of lube. However, my stabilizers weren’t as tuned as I’d like with lots of rattles (easy fix, I get what I paid for).
– South-facing RBG LEDs produce very nice lighting. This also includes lots of modes to choose from and customization of colours inside EPOMAKER’s software.
– The 2.4ghz dongle has a little spot on the back of the keyboard for storage so you don’t lose it. When my brother games with it he doesn’t notice any delays (he steals all my keyboards for “testing” when he’s around).
– The inclusion of a knob. Who doesn’t like knobs? The knob provides fast volume adjustments on the fly with nice tactical bumps and mute/unmute with a nice click. You can also program the knob in EPOMAKER’s software as well.
– Modding the keyboard sounds way better than stock (highly recommend it if you can). Perhaps I’m weak (most likely) but getting the skirt off this keyboard was a nightmare. I don’t think I’ve struggled this much before on taking off a skirt (I have battle scars).
– Modding the board was extremely simple, take off the knob and set it aside before you start though. There are two screws behind the dual-stage risers and a skirt in your way of the goods. There’s not much space for you in there to mod the keyboard. I’d recommend using foam and tape mod on the PCB. You can also do a silicone pour but make sure you angle the case before you do and plug up all possible holes.
– For gaming, I myself would not use the Budgerigar switches for the types of games that include lots of tapping. Example, “osu!”. At first, using the switches the tactile bumps were barely felt. Then I found myself getting tired faster while playing said example and the tactile bumps on the switches got more pronounced.
– Typing with this keyboard is very fun! Feels like popping those really sturdy bubble wraps.
I think that’s all! Thank you for coming to my TED talk.
Con:
– Still can’t pronounce the switch’s name when people ask about them :D.
EDIT!:
Forgot to mention that these are MDA profile keycaps! They are fairly nice with clear legends (some of the legends look disproportionate in my eyes). They do need to get used to though.
Let me start by saying that you absolutely cannot beat this keyboard at this price point. I was in search of a keyboard with a nice “thock” sound and lots of searching led me to this.
Everything came in the box properly, including a couple extra switches, the USB-C to USB-A cable, manual, a keycap/switch puller, and even a couple extra keycaps. I was immediately impressed with the build quality of the board, it’s nice and heavy. Upon plugging it into my PC it automatically lit up, and even the RGB on this is awesome. I will note that I struggled to get it connected to my PC via Bluetooth, but once I let it sit and charge for a bit, it connected right away.
This was my first board with this particular type of keycap and it’s definitely taken some getting used to, I’ve found that I unintentionally press a lot of keys. However, I actually ended up loving this profile more than any other I’ve tried. If you aren’t loving the keycap profile, I’d highly recommend just visiting the Epomaker website or shop on amazon for different keycaps to swap them with. because the board itself is worth the money without the keycaps.
As for the battery, I’m once again impressed. I fully charged it once I received it probably three weeks ago, and have been using it daily for about 6 hours a day and according to my PC, the battery is still at 85%. That being said, I don’t use the RGB pretty much ever, so you probably won’t get as much battery life out of it if you’re running the RGB constantly.
All in all, if you’re in your search for a keyboard that gives off a nice “thock” that you don’t have to put any work into, this should be where your search ends. I highly recommend this board.
I really like the keyboard, there is one issue however. I use it with my PC through the dongle and with my laptop through Bluetooth. What I noticed is that I cannot change the connection from dongle (FN+4) to Bluetooth (FN+1) if the dongle itself is not powered. Initially the dongle was plugged into an USB slot on my PC which powers off when the PC shuts down and the keyboard stopped working at that point, whatever key I pressed nothing changed. Once I plugged the dongle into an USB port which is always powered on, the keyboard came back to life. Very strange behaviour.
Trs bon clavier, trs agrable utiliser.
I have had a lot of really expensive keyboards. They have all been aluminum and because I live in a really dry climate, I always shock them to death within a year or two. Twice it has damaged the PCB to the point of the board not working altogether, and the other two just got keyboard chatter and/or skipping keystrokes (yes I tried replacing the switch, no go).
Anyhow, I decided it’s time to stop buying a new $300 keyboard every year and went for a cheaper one that is plastic so I can’t shock it to death. I was prepared to take a hit on quality… but that’s not what happened at all.
This board is easily the best board I’ve had. It feels amazing. It sounds amazing. It’s easy to remap keys and change the lighting. It has everything I could ask for, even though it’s a mass produced “budget” mech keyboard.
The Budgerigar switches are literally the best tactiles I’ve ever felt. They have a really really nice tactile bump. They beat Zealios, Mod SH, Glorious Pandas…. I mean I don’t even recall feeling a board that I loved the feel of this much at the keyboard meetups I’ve been to.
The stabs are perfectly acceptable out of the box. The last 3 boards I have owned were a Keychron Q1, GMMK Pro, and KBD75. Out of the 3, the KBD75 that I built myself was the best… but that took a ton of time, effort, and soldering supplies, none of which is necessary with this board, which it doesn’t even measure up to. As for the Keychron and GMMK, let’s just say they are absurdly overrated. They both sucked and I would never buy from them again. They promised ESD protection and they don’t have it. They both wanted me to open the keyboard and do all kinds of weird hacks before they would even consider replacing parts, and then they would only replace one part meaning I’d have to rebuild the whole board. I’m sorry, but that’s not the reason I bought a prebuilt keyboard… those days are behind me, I don’t have the time or patience.
This board is absolutely FANTASTIC. And it’s RIDICULOUSLY CHEAP!!! I mean, I’ve paid this much for just switches before! I’ve paid more than this for most of my keycap sets! I have NO IDEA how they can sell this for $90 but I’m absolutely ecstatic with it.
I can’t recommend it enough.
For this price you will not find a better keyboard, keyboard feels very premium with amazing solid build, keycaps feel premium, the sound is premium, rgb lighting is absolutely amazing, 10/10 nothing bad .
Frdelar:
– Skn skrivknsla utan modifieringar
– Hot-swappable
– Prisvrt
Nackdelar:
The Budgerigar switches are absolutely amazing, never felt so confident and accurate in typing. Great build quality. However I did spent 25 quid extra to buy Steelseries pudding keycaps and it was worth it, but I wish Epomaker offered UK layout boards so I didn’t have to buy the complete keyboard and replace the original keycaps, and maybe choose from a more varied selection of switches.
Servizio Amazon:
I bought it for my younger brother who is IT Engineer and loves gaming. I was never interested in these kinds of keyboards but it was really worth it. He really likes it and the quality of this product is so good. Initially you may feel it is expensive but when you actually use it it is value for money.
-A forewarning for Linux users, the TH80 is not supported in OpenRGB. I would be wary of buying this KB unless you have access to a PC running Windows, so that you can install Epomaker’s software to control this board’s lighting. Other than macros, which I have no reason to use so I didn’t test, lighting and rebinds will save to the KB, so you will not need to be plugged into a Windows PC after you’ve made any changes you want.
-Overall, I was extremely impressed for the $90 I paid. I’ve used much more expensive KBs in the past. My most recent KBs are a Ducky One 3 and a Keychron K10. Both range from $120-$150 and I have modded both. Compared to those modded, the typing experience out of the box of this KB was of even higher quality than those. If you want a cheap, 75%, high quality experience, KB that you don’t want/need to mod, I’m for sure going to recommend this to everyone in the future.
-The keycaps were not something I put any thought into when I first ordered this. After using it for a day, I’m in love with these caps. They’re by far my favorite, and that’s coming from an $80 set from Kinetic Labs. These caps have a very average sound profile. The actual physical profile I love. They’re an MDA profile, they have a very rounded edge, a very smooth glossy texture, and are extremely comfortable for all uses. The MDA profile makes my fingers feel almost cushioned in the center of each key on the home row due to its more concave shape.
-For switches, I ordered the Budgerigars. If you don’t know which switch you want, I highly recommend the Flamingos over any of the other options. For tactile switches, the Budgerigars are VERY tactile. Fun to type on, but my fingers had noticeable strain after a couple hours of gaming. I’m sure I would have gotten used to them, but I also wanted to try out Epomaker’s Flamingo switches, which I ordered separately. Both switches are lightly factory lubed. This board goes better with linears or a light tactile switch IMO.
-The knob is cool. Mine came with the red one. It’s fairly smooth which isn’t ideal, but it does have tactile points. Default control is Volume up/down and mute on the click. I prefer it default.
-The RGB brightness is adequate. I would say it’s bright enough to shine through most non translucent switches just fine. The on-board RGB controls aren’t great, so unfortunately you need the software to really do what you want. In my 2 photos, I have the RGB set to a static blue for the entire board. The F row has the Budgerigar switches, and the rest of the board has Hippo Linears. That’s why there are 2 different colors.
-The software is good. For a KB software, it’s above average. Rebinds and RGB settings will save to the board, so you will not have to run it unless you want to change something. You can change things while being used with the 2.4Ghz dongle, not sure about Bluetooth.
-Wireless works as expected. Bluetooth is fine, works like all other boards I have that have Bluetooth. 2.4Ghz dongle works as expected. I’ve seen some others say they cannot use the dongle or have connectivity issues if they have another 2.4Ghz dongle plugged in for another device. I did not experience this. For my use case, I have a 2nd PC running Windows that I have the dongle plugged into, and my main computer I have the KB plugged in with USB. Switching between PCs works surprisingly seamlessly. I press Fn+4 to switch to wireless, to use my Windows PC, then Fn+5 to switch back to wired mode for my Linux PC. From what I can tell, the toggle switch on the bottom of the board just turns the battery on or off. If the battery is set to on, the KB will still function over USB if it’s plugged in through USB.
-Foam is fine. Comes with 2 pieces. 1 in the bottom of the case, it’s very thin, and 1 between the PCB and plate.
-Stabilizers are average cheap ones. They have plenty of lube. Mine were loose, so I do recommend bandaid modding them at the very least.
-Actual sound of the board is decent. It’s deep, like most plastic cases, and very solid. The latter is mostly due to the overall weight. It weights a good amount, almost as much as my full size KBs, which is good.
Amazing budget board. Better than a lot of mid range boards.
The Epomaker TH80 Pro is a 75% RGB mechanical keyboard that not only comes with lubed switches but is also connectable via USB 2.4Ghz/Bluetooth and last but not lest good old fashioned wire, which is also replaceable.
The switches are also replaceable while the Leds are south facing and the TH80 Pro also comes with an rotary knob that can be switched for further customization.
Lets start of with the negatives of this keyboard, which thankfully are more minor nitpicks rather than any serious issues.
Firstly I had problems getting my PC to connect via the USB 2.4Ghz connection although thankfully this was solved by resetting the keyboard.
Interestingly connecting to Bluetooth on the Steamdeck was a breeze and being able to switch inputs at a press of a button comes is very handy.
The PBT keycaps are well made and thick but are not shine through, so if your using this in the pitch black you may have to factor the added cost of some shine through PBTs or Puddings keycaps, although in low light this shouldn’t be an issue. Another minor criticism is that although the letters are crisp some of the number keys are not quite level. The number six key sits slightly lower than its neighbours for example, thankfully this is less of an issue on the letter keys.
Finally the finishing at the bottom of some the keycaps, especially the spare keycaps, were a little rough. Nothing major and in no way does it affect the typing , but be aware these are not GMK or high end Drop keycaps.
Now on to the good stuff and trust me there’s plenty of plus points and then some.
Firstly the build quailty is excellent, sure it’s plastic but this is 1kg of solid plastic, plus there’s also an Aluminum Alloy knob for controlling the volume which can be progammed for other uses too.
I chose the Gateron Pro yellow switches and straight away the typing feel felt several leagues above my Roccat Vulcan 122 that this has replaced. The Pro yellow switches are buttery smooth, due to being prelubed, without being uber sensitive. (Looking at you Gateron Red!) Another reason this keyboard feels great to type on is because of the slightly rare MDA keycap profile which I personally find to be one of the best keycap profiles I’ve ever typed on.
Spin the TH80 on its back and you’ll find the kick stands which offer 2 additional height adjustments plus a compartment for the 2.4Ghz dongle and finally also thrown in the box are 4 extra switches plus a rather nice keycap/switch puller.
The 2.4Ghz and Bluetooth connection have been flawless so far with zero lag and drop outs, although I’ve seen people complaining that they’ve had issues with the 2.4Ghz connection on the standard TH80 so hopefully the Pro model has addressed these issues.
Typing on the TH80 is a tremendous experience, no doubt made possible by the excellent amount of dampening that Epomaker have meshed together, and you really do get some superb ear pleasing thock at a unbeatable price.
While keyboard modding is all the rage, aside from changing the keycaps, there’s really is no need to modify this baby because even in its stock form this keyboard really delivers.
There are plenty of Youtube reviews which opened my eyes to this keyboard and I have to say they’re all pretty much spot on!
Sure this keyboard has a few minor faults but for what it offers at the wallet friendly price is quite frankly amazing.
UPDATE:
Upgraded keycaps to Drop X Marvel Infinity keycaps combined with
PBTfans gaming pad.
I chose a linear switch, and it is the perfect thocky keyboard I was looking for. It feels very high quality, and came well packaged. I had a query about my order and I can confirm their customer service is 10/10. Thank you so much-it’s so nice to type on, and the pastel colourway is beautiful.
TL;DR – I wasn’t a fan of some of the keycaps, and the software is strange. Other than that, the keyboard is fine and feels great to type on! Maybe consider another keyboard if you’re planning on swapping anything out (keycaps and/or switches) though.
It’s annoying to mod without proper tools, prying it open isn’t very easy. Also, it definitely has that stock “thock”. The YouTube videos sometimes don’t do it justice. I’d consider potentially buying something else. I bought this keyboard because it was perfect for me. I liked the colorway, lubed switches, and wireless connectivity for a relatively low price than if I were to build it myself. If you don’t like the keycaps or switches (though they’re good) and plan to switch them out immediately, there’s probably better or similar options. This is a good stock keyboard, and I don’t plan on changing the switches or keycaps for a while.
Now we can move on to more specific gripes:
Let’s start with the software. It was so unintuitive and buggy that I genuinely thought my keyboard was broken. I was trying to set the F6 key to pure blue and instead it just turned off. I changed it to purple and it just turned red. I figured that my blue LED was broken and was about to return it. Then I turned it off and on again and also tried using the 2.4Ghz dongle, and suddenly the green LED would stop working. Turns out, if you use the “multiple” option to change LED colors, it works perfectly. It was pretty stressful. Also, the software overall feels a little bit janky in a way I can’t explain, perhaps it’s the translation.”
Moving onto keycaps, they made some strange moves. First off, there are a total of 8 extra keycaps included, which you can see in the picture. The strange part is that there are a total of 5 ESC key replacements (including the one already on the board). That’s super overkill. In addition, the SUPER key doesn’t have a windows icon replacement. I’m not sure if that’s for some kind of copyright reason or something, but it’s a little jarring, instead including some abstract symbol (which I prefer over SUPER). The ESC keys are also all yellow. Looks nice, but if you want to use yellow lighting under the key, it looks a lot more orange. If you look at the picture, the yellow for the main keys and the yellow for the escape key are different. If you take off the keycaps, they’re identical. I also don’t like how the arrow keys use letters instead of just arrows, personally. Not including some extra keycaps for functions like print screen and insert is understandable but make way more sense than 4 extra ESC keycaps. If I were to switch it up, I’d suggest including arrow key swaps instead of extra ESC keys. Replace the abstract keys with something else as well. It’s just strange keycap design.
I’ve been very pleased with this keyboard in the week since I bought it. Here are my pros and cons (Of course this is just my opinion)
Pros
The switches sound good stock
The 2.4ghz wireless is flawless
The battery life seems very good so far
Switches are Hot-swappable
South facing LEDs
Key caps feel high quality
Cons
The number row has north facing LEDS, meaning the light appears to get slightly weaker towards the top of the keyboard, although this is only a minor annoyance
The Software for customising the rgb/key mapping feels clunky to use (but ultimately works)
I had doubts about this purchase but my friend managed to convince me to buy this keyboard.
I have no regrets about buying and throughout the time I’ve been using it typing was a joy for me.
The battery life is satisfactory, though it can be easily replaced with a higher capacity one if you have a screwdriver and talented hands.
I have used it only in Bluetooth mode so far, even though it supports 2.4 GHz channel. The connection quality and answer time was enough for me even in FPS games such as CS:GO.
The quality of build is fantastic, the keyboard feels heavy and solid, the keycaps are also very well made.
Support of Hot-Swap is surely a nice thing even though 90% of the keyboards have this feature these days. I changed the switches to Black ones and am completely satisfied with them.
I would definitely recommend this keyboard to beginners, or as a gift for both adults or children.
Got this keyboard as I heard a lot of good things about Epomaker and thought I should give it a shot.
For reference, I’m coming from an Asus ROG Falchion therefore this review will have some comparisons with it. Yes, I am aware that the Falchion is double the price however, my comparisons are mostly in favour of the Epomaker, therefore showing its value for money.
Packaging/Whats in the box
The keyboard is nicely packed and comes with a few switches and keycaps as replacements as well as a keycap puller which I thought was a really nice touch.
As mentioned in the description, this keyboard is hot-swappable which is a huge plus a long the way as you can literally pull the switches and replace them with whatever you prefer without having the headache of soldering them.
Typing/Feel/Keycaps/Sound
I must say – I got the Flamingo Switches as I read they are “creamy” and nice to type on/game on. I absolutely love them. They feel exactly like that – creamy. They sound thicc but full and feel just right to the touch for me.
The keycaps are nothing too special. They are a good product, clear markings, funky keys (esc, spacebar, shift, are different colors and their markings are different – the extra keys in the box have all different markings as well in case you get bored). Overall they feel just right for the keyboard and typing experience.
Switches appear to be pre-lubed and they did a pretty decent job at that. The stabilizers work well for 95% of the keys out of the box. The only ones where I hear rattling noises are coming from the backspace and spacebar.
Falchion had about 80-85% as a comparison.
Compared to ROG Falchion, I was able to get used to it almost immediately. Typing on it was not a learning curve at all. It made me want to type on it all day long – perhaps this sounds odd to some, but those who share this feeling will understand what I mean.
The extra round button at the top right is by default a volume knob and when you press it, it mutes the sound. I found this default setting to be perfect HOWEVER, you can map whatever you like on it. If you are an editor, you can map the timeline scroll on it instead which I find useful. And it can do plenty other things like opening an .exe etc.
The downside (if you care about this) is that the marking on the keycaps are not transparent therefore the RGB will not shine through the shapes of the letters/numbers/symbols etc but rather come from underneath. This is by no means a deal breaker as you can literally buy whatever keycaps you prefer either from their website or your prefered choice.
RGB Modes
The RGB is a 7/10. The modes are plenty however their “customization” is not ideal (for me). For example, I love the “breathe” mode (for those who don’t know it it is where a colour (or more) decrease their brightness to 0 and back to whatever you put it at (20%-100%) making it “breathe”)). This mode, along with others, do not allow me to reduce the speed at which it “breathes” appearing a bit too fast to my liking. This might be nit picky but compared to the ROG Falchion, this is very noticeable.
And as mentioned, this is appearant in all other modes.
The rest of them are nice, but nothing fancy or “cool”. They do seem to repeat themselves as if they ran out of ideas when creating these modes. For example, there is one mode where colours rotate clockwise and then a separate mode where they rotate counterclockwise.
The keyboard does have an app which allows you to go a bit more in depth with these modes but again, nothing too fancy.
Macros
In the keyboards’ app, you can customize your macros as you seem fit which is a nice to have. For me personally this is not a priority however, if you’re into that, it is possible.
Battery/Ports/Build
Quite a shock here. It is only 2200mAh – the ROG Falchion has 4000mAh. I thought well, half of that would mean, half the life right? Wrong.
Where the ROG Falchion lasts 30-40 days of daily use (around 12h daily) with RGB on, using “breathe” mode, the Epomaker gets a solid 4-7 days max. Not around 15-20 days as I thought.
The good part is that it is charged by USB-C and it charges in 4-6h in my case (CAVEAT HERE: I’m charging it via pc USB so not getting power from the wall socket directly. This will decrease the rapidity of the charge).
As oposed to the ROG Falchion, it does not have a slot for the USB receiver, but it does have multiple angle adjustments from its feet (Falchion has only 1 option).
Speaking of feet, the rubber padding on the feet has already started to shift as the glue is no longer as strong as it was 1 month ago when I bought this. Again, not a deal breaker as you can re-glue it easily but something I found interesting as a difference to Falchion.
The keyboard itself is heavy. At least heavier than the Falchion. Considering they are both 65% it is a “surprise”. The weight becomes more apparant when you pick it up to turn it off. I have big hands and good grip strenght however, before I got used to its weight, I droped it a few times grabbing it “one-handed”.
However, its weight is an advantage. It does not shift or move. It stays in place and looks pretty <3.
Conclusion/ TL;DR:
- Switches/Typing experience - 10/10 (flamingo switches)
- Build quality - 9/10
- Battery - 4/10
- RGB - 7/10
BUT THE OVERALL FEEL OF THIS KEYBOARD - 9/10.
If I were to recommend a keyboard to any enthusiast looking for something fun, reliable, good typing experience and customizable, I would 100% recommend this one.
We bought this because it was the only keyboard we could find with a Super rather than Windows key [we run Linux] and in ISO configuration [UK]. At time of purchase it was only available with Flamingo [linear] switches
It arrived several days early, which was brilliant.
The keyboard comes with an instruction manual, wireless fob, USB A to C cable, several spare keycaps, switches, and a key/switch puller.
Connecting via cable the keyboard worked as expected immediately, and it was simple to change the LEDs to our preferred light purple.
We also tried connecting wirelessly, but the connection was not reliable and resulted in a lot of missed keystrokes. This may be a problem with Linux specifically – we didn’t test under Windows
We were able to connect to our iPad via Bluetooth, which worked perfectly but for the mismatched special keys. Changing to ‘Mac’ format did not appear to work.
The keycaps are large, clear, and very comfortable to type with. They’re fully opaque with no LED glow-through
Flamingo Switches have a rich, thunky sound profile and feel slightly ‘squishy’ compared to our old, super-cheap board. We got used to this very rapidly and enjoy it in practice.
The only downside for our personal setup was lack of Menu or exclusive Delete key, but it was relatively easy to remap the PgUP / PgDN keys and swap over the keycaps to charming yellow, mechanically themed alternatives.
We may experiment with Tactile switches at some point [probably Akko Lavender], but for now this is a delightful keyboard, near perfect in form and function, and we strongly recommend it to anyone looking to experiment with the mechanical world
This is review is for the TH80 version of the keyboard. Overall, this is a great keyboard and a good value for money.
First starting with the build quality – has a very solid build, is very sturdy and sits well on the desk.
Few bits on the switches – I’m using the Gateron Pro Yellow switch version. the switches feel very smooth (of course they are linear) and are very comfortable to type. However, personally I think I’ll enjoy the brown switches more as I wanted a bit of tactile bump in the keys. Didn’t want to go with the blue ones as they are loud and will be disturbing to others in my setup. But the good thing is that this is a hot swappable keyboard and my next upgrade will be to the brown switches !
The keys are well spaced, however, it takes a while to get used to a new keyboard. Love the fact that there are dedicated function keys thanks to the 75% layout which is complete for the most part, yet compact. The right shift key is a bit too short – I almost always end up pressing the up arrow key accidentally. I guess, part of that is getting used to any new keyboard layout. In fact I’m enjoying typing on a proper keyboard after a long time. Didn’t realise that for years I’ve been on laptop keyboards mostly.
They keyboard pairs well – I was able to pair it with my Mac instantly without a glitch. Haven’t tried pairing with multiple devices yet, but I’m sure that’ll be a breeze too.
I love the knob on the top right – by default works as a volume control and to play / pause audio / video tracks. Works like a charm I’d say. I haven’t yet tried programming the keyboard so more on that when I get to it.
Now for the things that could have been better:
1. The power on / off button is at the bottom – I’d appreciated if it was on the top / front of the keyboard. I find it very inconvenient to lift the keyboard to turn it off / on.
2. I work on a Mac – while each function key maps very nicely to Mac functions it would be good to have graphics / symbols on the key caps depicting those functions.
3. The RGB effects are too fancy for me. I’d rather prefer a simple backlight to disco effects – though I believe this is a matter of personal preference.
4. Having a dedicated home key would have been better
Stuff that I’ve not reviewed yet – I’ll update the review when I get to that:
1. Battery life
2. Programming the keyboard
This keyboard has no right being this good. I’ve been through many keyboards and over the last few years delved into the niche market that is custom keyboards, focusing on aesthetics, quality and sound. This keyboard hits all three very well, at this price it’s crazy. I read the reviews first and the only that that seemed to put me off was a person mentioning that a green led stays on when plugged in, that seems to have been resolved as I do not have that issue once the keyboard is charged and plugged in via usb-c. One thing I noticed that I will probably fix myself with some black tape internally, some led light bleeds through the casing below the space bar on either side. But that’s easily fixed.
Amazing value for money and I love the sound of the brown switch
Maravilhoso!! Super confortvel. Som “TOC TOC” :). Knob de volume super preciso. EPOMAKER RULES!!! m/
This is such a good keyboard. I wasn’t sure what it would be like when ordering but I’m very happy. I’ve had royal kludge before and I really like this board. Stabilisers pre lubed and sound very good, and I think the switches might be factory lubed as they are very nice too.
Negatives.
The software could be better, the speed of rgb could have more adjustment as I find even on the slowest setting to still be fast.
The rgb also don’t seem to have brilliant colour representation, even though I’m changing shades of green or blue or red in the software, the reds all looked the same and blues/ greens ect.
Overall I’m still pretty happy
I come from a very terrible experience with razer, out of four products i bought i ended up returning 3 due to factory defects, including a keyboard. Then i bumped into this. This is absolutely the best keyboard I bought so far, value for money is great, super sturdy and it’s fully modular. I bought it with Gateron Pro Red (tactile, very silent), and so far it’s been 1) great for gaming, 2) great for typing – every keystroke is really, really satisfying. Also, it comes with 4 spare switches in case one breaks + a nice selection of ESC keycaps + apple keyboard keycaps (cmd etc)
Definitely recommend, now that I tried it, this is a product that has great value for money, and actually, it’s one of those products for which I would’ve been happy to pay more for.
This is a great deal guys, go for it.
This keyboard sounds super good straight out the box and has such good customisability. Great Bluetooth connection and the lighting is bright and vibrant.
I’m not one for leaving a review immediately after just receiving this item, but damn this feels good to type on. I have the gateron pro yellows and if you are after the thocky and creamy sound go with this. The switches combined with this case feels and sounds incredible.
I didn’t think you can get a prebuilt keyboard that “thocks” like that, especially for this price. Connectivity is fast enough, build quality is great, although the top “see through” plastic squeeks a bit when you pick up the keyboard, but no noise when its placed down and used. Overall great experience!
27/08/2022
The keyboard is absolutely amazing. I went for the blue switches, and it’s possibly the most satisfying thing to type on ever! It is responsive, you KNOW when a key is pressed, and for someone who has to write a lot of papers, this is perfect as it simply just feels good and makes the typing process a lot nicer.
I initially ran into an issue with the battery on this thing, but the customer service immediately fixed the issue, and I got a fully working keyboard! The battery fully works, and there are no issues as the service was fast and tried their best to fix it.
The battery is great and lasts as advertised, and it’s especially handy how you can switch Bluetooth devices easily, as I like to go from typing on my laptop to my tablet no the train, and then my work PC!
UPDATE 18/08/2022:
It most definitely is a defective battery which is disappointing. Even with all the keyboard lights off, the battery only lasts for 2 hours max, far below what they advertised.
Original: 06/08/2022
I really like the keyboard, but it must have a defective battery. The Bluetooth keeps reporting its on 2% battery left, sometimes it turns off, even after I fully charged it. This is not good considering they advertised an 80 hour battery life.
I purchased the Gateron Pro Yellow switch version, these are pre-lubed and to my experience are smooth with no sign of scratching, I may try out some tactile switches from Epomaker at a later date. One of the best things I like about this keyboard are the keycaps, these are MDA profile PBT keycaps which feel quality and thick – they are slightly flat, I haven’t had any problems typing as the keyboard is angled. They make a nice sound …”thocky” to me. It did take a few days to get used to the US key layout, I find the smaller ‘Enter’ key and short right shift not ideal. A Euro key layout version would be bettter. I don’t usually have any lights on the keyboard – but the latest software from the manufacture means you can change to a solid colour or all off, you could also use the key shortcuts to adjust the RGB. The only bad points would be that the wireless connection sometimes disconnects, but as I usually use this pluged-in, this is not usually a problem, also the ‘CTRL’ key has a green light on when charging – this light goes out when fully charged – not a problem. I would totally recommend this keyboard, it’s a quality piece of kit that can be fully customised and it has a volume knob…
Good value for money and somewhat thoccy out the box because of the gas mount and foam included within board. Won’t bother to mod since great as is and will just change the switches (hot swappable). Bluetooth works seamlessly without any disconnections so far and battery lasts for more than a week with heavy use without lights on – tend to use with cable which is unobtrusive though. PBT keycaps and nice weight to it. No need to spend more. throughly recommend.
Ordered this as a result of a thorough research on what is a good entry level and worth it 75% keyboard and this one came on the top on its own price point. Quite “thocky” and satisfying to use that even my partner who doesn’t like the sound of mechanical keyboards liked it.
WOW, I am so happy with my purchase. I bought the blue switch of this product and finally can say I have a keyboard that has been so fluid and snappy to type with! I audio-type as part of my job so have been overjoyed to be typing all day long on this beautiful little keyboard.
I would so recommend to anyone looking for their first mechanical keyboard; this is such good quality and value for money!
Coming from a Durgod Tauros 320 TKL which was more expensive, this was a massive upgrade in terms of sound. As someone who would rather not get into modding keyboards due to cost and time constraints, this was nearly perfect for me. The gateron pro yellows feel so smooth to type on and sound very satisfying with no ping at all. The yellow and the other linear options will be great if you live in a shared household as they’re very quiet as well. The keycaps feel smooth to the touch, and won’t get slippery anytime soon due to them being PBT. I can’t emphasize enough how great it feels and sounds as it’s comparable to more expensive and modded keyboards.
In terms of any cons, they’re mainly nitpicky. I wish the keycaps had the FN shortcuts printed on them as I don’t want to rely on the manual to use them. Out of all the stabilizer buttons, the only one with some rattle is the enter key (although this may vary due to QA). And my main grip is that when it’s being used in wired mode, the ‘CTRL’ button is constantly lit green to indicate that it’s charging. You can turn this off by turning off the RGB lights all together, but it would be nice to be able to use them without the charging indicator. The reason I still give it 5 stars, is that the affordable price more than makes up for these cons.
I had to return it as this is an ANSI layout which wasn’t clear from the advert. However, this an amazing keyboard. The yellow Pro switches, knob, keys. I’d love one but this manufacturer doesn’t do ISO layouts. Shame.
