Why is the monitor not working?
The monitor not turning on indicates no/insufficient power supply. If using HDMI for screen projection, connect monitor to external power supply (10W+). If using USB-C for screen projection and power, ensure secondary device has sufficient power.
Why is the display showing “No Signal”?
This occurs when the monitor is powered on but not receiving a data signal. Only USB-C DisplayPort supports power and screen projection. Otherwise, you can power the monitor using the USB-C to C/A cable and connect via HDMI for screen projection.
Why can’t I adjust the display brightness?
Brightness, contrast, black level, and/or sharpness cannot be manually adjusted if there are preset display settings applied. Ensure the following “Advanced Settings” are applied: IMAGE > ECO > STANDARD; IMAGE > DCR > OFF; MISC. > HDR MODE > OFF.

I use this as my second monitor, its working prefectly for me. i like that it is a larger screen than my laptop, i have this set as my main screen so everything important is easier to read and work on.
i use to carry 2 laptops , now i don’t need to.
Just received the ESR 15.6 inch monitor. So easy to setup. Just plug and play. So light. Very convenient to use as another monitor which is portable and I can take it anywhere with me. It comes with a carry pouch and all the cords you need to get connected. The best deal is the price. Amazing product!!!
Just got this and plugged it in. No problems so far. Very pleased it only needs usb-c cable to work right out of the box. On screen menu and control is intuitive. The dial is a nice touch. I’m excited to put this to work!
It works from the second you plug it in. I use it with a Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet and it does not skip a beat. It is sharp, light enough and great brightness for what I need. Fits in my bag and only need one cable. Runs off the power of the laptop/tablet so you only need one cable running to it. All connections on the back stand arm so you don’t knock cable or have them running all over the place.
Great product, highly recommend.
It’s nice quality screen for the price point. I had bought a different one that was a soft screen and the quality was just horrible. This one is much better and the stand is pretty solid.
I needed a slim monitor that’s easy to set up and pack. Needed another screen when working away from home, so far it’s been great !
Light weight, easy to adjust stand. I saw the reviews about lighting, I don’t like monitors that are so bright so there’s no issue for me.
I’m the picture I still have the screen protector on. I hope they make a touch screen version like this in future, I would so buy.
Screen was simple to set up and so far is very fast and easy to use. Some of the buttons seem fragile but I haven’t had any problems yet.
Was thin light and graphics and reaction time were very good. Great value
I use 2 screens at work and felt unable to be as productive at home when I need to do work. Problem solved with this! Great investment. Worth every penny.
Display is great, portable, slim, material is good, great value
I love how slim it is and easy to use. I am not tech savy. So for me to be able to figure it out was a plus!! My first portable screen was more wide in depth. So again I love how slim and how clear the screen is. I have only used it a couple of times. But the couple of times I used it I like.
Love this, very portable, works every time. No connection issues, display is great. Great purchase for the money. Use it and put it away almost daily
Great design, very sleek and well made. The screen is the perfect size and is great for portable use. Would highly recommend.
This external portable monitor has premium build quality and resolution is sharp and displays a crisp image/ video all the time. Very slim profile and simple connections. Highly recommended
Screen size and thinness, weight and picture clarity are all very good. Unfortunately, it’s screen brightness is lower than I’d like. Even with settings at 100% it is really only about 80% compared to the connected laptop screen. Settings have been adjusted and re-set without any improvement, with power and on battery power. Monitor was even exchanged once to be sure I didn’t get a bad one.
Looks good but haven’t tried yet. I’ll get back again here to give my full review after I use it.
I needed an additional display for work and didn’t want to buy a new big display so I looked at portable display. Amazon recommend this display and it looked best designed of the lot. I have to day I’m blown away at the build quality and image quality. No idea how they do it for the price! Truly plug and play on my MacBook. Over the moon happy and highly recommended. Case and cables are also good quality. Just change the modes till you find the look that’s best for your eyes.
This monitor is awesome. Just plug into your laptop with USB C and you have a great second monitor when on the move. I often work at cafes and this is perfect.
The only slight downside is that it is powered by the laptop, so can drain the battery quick. You can easily plug into the mains though and I use a power bank when out, as it improves the brightness of the screen.
I would highly recommend this especially for the price and so easy to use!
The monitor is easy to use and is very sleek.
First let me say, for the TL:DR, if you are good with only getting a 1080p screen that is best in low to mid light, and will likely not do great in bright light, GET THIS MONITOR! Stay tuned for details.
There are three things ESR got REALLY right that made me want to keep this so badly. One was the glass screen. Yes, susceptible to fingerprints, but when clean, it looked great. Super easy to look at, reminiscent of clean Apple screen. It was sleek. The other is the kickstand! WHY CAN’T OTHER MANUFACTURERS GET THIS RIGHT?!? Frankly, this is what sold me on this monitor. Every other portable monitor kickstand is trash, and frankly, I wouldn’t trust to keep the monitor safe. But they did it right on this one. NOT ONLY does it come with a sturdy, stable, attached kickstand, ESR integrated all the I/O cables in the kickstand and not the side of the monitor! This is INCREDIBLE! I HATE having portable monitors with the cables sticking out the side. Not only are they more prone to getting knocked, but you physically cannot really put your monitors side by side because of it. So having the cables out of the way is a super smart and useful design feature that I just can’t figure out why others who make monitors can get right.
But then I turned it on, and I realized my mistake and why I couldn’t keep it. See, it is only 1080p–Quick back story: I was buying this monitor to replace the 4k KYY 15.6″ portable monitor I bought because it got stepped on in a situation I will not bore you with here. And in the middle of the night, while I was awake with a massive stomach ache, I hopped onto Amazon and saw this deal for the ESR. It had great features and was on sale. And I needed a replacement. But in my partial delirium of fatigue and an anguishing abdomen, I forgot that the KYY monitor was 4k–So I popped this one up and immediately noticed that I could basically see individual pixels. It was almost like I was looking at an LCD from 2005. It was hard on my eyes. While it compares fine to my work-issued thinkbook and Acer monitors, it is a hard transition from my MacBook to the ESR, and back. While it isn’t completely fair to compare it to an Apple Retina display, whose pixels are nearly imperceptible, my MacBook Pro I use is literally 9 years old (as of Oct 2022), and its screen is still way better. Using them together, even at a distance, was difficult. Alas, I decided to return it.
The other big gripe that I tested only minorly, although I have heard other gripes about it, is the brightness. At only 250nits, this is almost criminally low. And since glass is more susceptible to glare and reflection, you need a much brighter screen to combat glare. It is unbelievable that comparable products have a brighter screen, and this one, with a glass front that desperately needs a bright screen, is so poorly lit. So for it to be so low–and it is–this is a large black mark on this product, and frankly, the biggest reason why I am only giving it 4 stars.
Other small gripe is HDMI mini. This is a poor connector type and I cannot see any reason why ESR uses mini instead of standard. Not only do you have to have a specialized cable or adapter (just so you can use a ubiquitous standard HDMI cable), but the mini connecter instead is not nearly as stable as the standard HDMI connector. Stop using HDMI mini. Just Stop.
I did not test the speakers as I packed it up given the screen issues. But I bet they aren’t great. Still, it would be really hard to say something negative about tiny speakers that are not a selling point anyway. And I would just be happy to have them in the rare occurrence that I would need them. Also, one of the gripes I have had with other monitors that I did not test on this monitor is if it truly runs perfectly on only one USB-C connection. This may not be a problem with this monitor since it is 1080p and not 4k. But I bring this up because the two 4k monitors I tried both said they could run from one USB-C cable, and that simply was not true. This is my complaint about my KYY 4k monitor (RIP). Whether you connect it to your computer with HDMI or USB-C, you’re still going to need another USB-C. So I don’t know if it is a problem with this one, or not.
Wrapping this up: I promise you, if this had been a 4k monitor with <900nits brightness, I would have kept it.
eally great quality, super sleek and easy to connect. only wish is that it was a tad brighter, but great bang for your buck
I wish it came with a better case, but I plan to buy another. Overall this will get the job done. I plan to work more from home and in other areas and will need 2 screens!
Nicely made. Good screen brightness and resolution. Purchased it for my wife to use in meetings. She loves it! If you have a USB-C display support all you have to do is connect one cable. It also supports HDMI. It automatically switches to the active and connected port.
Super schnes Design, tolles Bild, super flach – und man kann ihn sogar senkrecht aufstellen. Immer wieder gerne
This is an excellent portable monitor for the steam deck. It features hdr, which can be enabled easily. It works well with any external dock with hmdi that you can use with the Steam Deck. I used an old tablet mount so when I am at my desk it can be at a better angle. But I have used it for travel and it has a built in kick stand and speakers (which are good enough). Gaming on this monitor is great experience and highly recommended. I needed a larger screen for strategy games or if I wanted to set it up at a friends house to play multiplayer.
It also connects with my iPad Pro, which now has stage management which works well with this monitor too. The colors aren’t as bright or color accurate as apple but for the price it is an excellent experience for multitasking work on my iPad Pro.
Display works as described, but therfore quiet perfect in its range. Stabile aluminium case, protective glasspanel over the panel(yes its glare, but hey it wont brake like a premium product from a big named tech company), there is a antiglare foil on the screen. TOP!
. The whole screen has very gut lumination, very good colors and building quality. The Product as well as the Service are more Premium than a bunch of other Big-Tech companies! !
Only thing maybe to improve, is the leatherbag for transporting the screen, would be nice if there was a more stabile solution!
My first but not my last ESR Product.
Support Team is acting on a more Premium level than a lot of other big tech companies!
Very lightweight and compact monitor it includes all the cables you will ever need which is awesome, the picture quality is great but it could improve in brightness on 100% it looks ver dim
Ive tired at least 5 portable monitors, including both a fancy one that attaches to the laptop and a cheaper plastic model like this one.
Side by side there is no competition. For the price, the picture quality is sharp, the screen settings save for when you plug in next.
It gets pretty bright compared to others without a power adapter and is very bright if you plug it into a power source.
For the price, I think this portable monitor can’t be beat. The build quality is good. The port selection and included cables are excellent. My only complaint is the screen could be brighter. But honestly I would expect to pay much more to get a higher quality screen. I can use this screen with my Switch, Steam Deck, and my laptop. It is versatile. I never would’ve considered a portable monitor if it wasn’t for the low price. Would buy again.
This thing checks off all of the boxes for what I wanted out of it, with little exception. I don’t think there’s a better value at this price point, and I’m pretty happy with it.
The big reasons to buy:
– plugs go into the stand not out of the side of the screen, so you don’t have wires coming out of the side or top (portrait mode)
– Picture clarity and color are both great
– build quality is excellent (despite being so thin, feels more solid than a more expensive portable monitor I own)
– Only monitor at this price point by a company I’m familiar with from other products (I’ve had a bit of ESR MagSafe accessories for my phone and cases for my iPad, all of which were great)
– price in general
The only reasons not to buy:
– you must have a touchscreen (no touch support on this one, but I think that category of monitor is significantly more expensive)
– you want to use this heavily outdoors (in which case you may have to spend more than double the price to get something a bit brighter)
– you want a substantial or magnetic monitor cover/protector (this one comes with a thin fake leather sleeve, which I do wish was more substantial or more like an iPad face cover)
So again, if you’re looking for something in the budget category, this is probably the best value, imho. It definitely does the job well for me
I wasn’t totally sure what to expect with this monitor but I am overall very satisfied with it. It looks and feels high quality and is easily portable thanks to its slim design. The picture quality is better than I expected. The speakers are surprisingly good for being so small and hidden. I primarily use it as a second monitor when I’m on the go and for playing my Nintendo Switch. I love that it can power the Switch so you don’t need a bunch of excess cables/adapters. My only complaint is I think the brightness could be a bit better. If you turn on the DCR setting the brightness is much better, but it automatically adjusts based on the image on screen which isn’t ideal. Overall I’m very happy with this monitor.
Connects easily to my camera with HDMI for picture review and is really great as a second screen for my laptop. Just make sure you have a good battery in the field because the screen does draw power, as expected. Wish there was Bluetooth/wireless connection, that’s why 4 stars, but then it may not be so compact. Like the case and cables provided but had to buy a micro to mini HDMI for my camera.
Good packaging. Instructions are included but such tiny print. I understand why but maybe the main part or a quick start guide can be a separate card printed in larger font. Included carrying sleeve is very flimsy so be careful but at least something was provided. All required cables included but remember power needs to come through one of these cable meaning that either your main device should provide it (via the USB C connection) or separate usb c power directly for power.
Light enough, easy to move around. Glad that connector ports are on the back so hopefully cables are not hanging to the side of the screen
I had it working with a direct USB C connection providing both power and display. And with a separate USB C for power and display through HDMI. Worked well in portrait and landscape mode. Display is 1080p so a little pale against my higher resolution laptop but it’s fine.
Since I like my monitors a mounted a bit higher and I can’t do that with this, I will not replace my daily monitor with this but this is a great travel device. One time I actually brought a regular monitor with me to work from a hotel but now I can just bring this, much easier to carry.
All in all, good device, looks well made, not sure how long it will last, so a decent investment for occasional travel for me. But could be a great investment for others who might want to use it more regularly. ESR seems to be bringing out good products, I have multiple of their products.
No suelo escribir muchas reseas, pero la pantalla me ha sorprendido por la calidad de construccin y de imagen, adems del precio, la marca es importante para mi y ESR me da garantas para mucho tiempo.
Pros:
– worked with macbook pro via usb c and hdmi
– powered by usb c
– super thin/portable, and came with carrying case
– built-in controls for brightness, input select, etc.
Cons:
– lower resolution than macbook, if you are used to retina display (I hope they make a retina version too)
– some reflection if used in a bright room
As there are plenty of portable monitors in the wild, this one sure does add an interesting feature and it is the kickstand built right behind the monitor. It is not only useful but makes it stand out from the rest of the crowd. I should also mention how thin and light the monitor is considered all the features. This is my second purchase of a similar portable monitor and I prefer this over my old one due to its thin bezels and kickstand features. All ports are conveniently located on the kickstand itself and it makes plugging/unplugging a breeze. Couple of things I should mention are that since the kickstand is built in right on the back, the monitor does not lie flat on the desk meaning it must be set up either in landscape or portrait mode at an angle. Another thing that may be a dealbreaker to some would be a rather dimmed display despite adjusting the brightness to the max. I just wish the brightness would be brighter overall as its screen can be noticeably dimmer than the source connected. Although it comes with all the necessary hardwares and even a case, it was lot flimsy than I had hoped. It might protect the monitor from scratches to the screen or the monitor itself but will do not much from direct impact. Aside from mentioned concerns, I would still recommend to those who are currently in the market for a portable monitor as it offers all the features you need in a compact yet practical functions and a reasonable price.
Bought this portable monitor for streaming. Easy to setup and start using right away in less than a minute. The build quality is good, it doesn’t feel cheap, the picture quality is also good as well as it’s HDR, but it could be brighter. It’s great for it’s value because now I don’t need to buy a laptop or a full monitor just to stream on twitch and YouTube. Very happy with this overall.
This is a nice portable monitor that can be displayed landscape or in portrait mode
Pros: slim; can be powered by the laptop via usb-c cord (no extra wire required); can connect to iPad Pro (usb-c) for a larger display; decent speakers for portable monitor; can stand in landscape and portrait mode; comes with bag and all the wires needed to contact with it
Cons: could be a little brighter; the sticky plastic covering the monitor front was hard to remove
Overall a good monito
I needed a second screen when I am working abroad, since I am already used to work with two screens . This has a good price and has good finishes. The parcel took longer than expected to arrive( amazons fault) And I was able to connect the screen pretty fast (instantaneously just plug and play). It came with three cables: hdmi mini to hdmi, usb A to usb c and usb C to usb C , so I needed no extra hardware to be purchased, and a carrying bag. It is thin enough that it can go along in the same bag as my laptop computer. I got great resolution for my excel spreadsheets and documents. It also has an speaker and additional earphone plug, that is a plus. Sound of the speaker is the necessary for a power point presentation. Brightness is enough for indoor. My laptop does not support video over usb C so I have to use Usb for power and hdmi for video, but that is my laptops fault. In the monitor’s on-screen menu I can select the video input from usb C1, usb C2 and hdmi. I see the settings have some adjustment for gaming but can not test it for that since I am have no games installed. Overall is a good product. And will help on my work.
Physical layout of the connectors are great! I really like how they place the USB connections on the stand and not on the side of the display. This allows for a cleaner look in my opinion. Aesthetically the display looks good with my Mac. The weight of the display is very light, easy to move around.
The display itself is not as sharp as the macbook display. The macbook has a resolution of 5K while this monitor is only 2K. This really could bother some users but I find it acceptable. The screen comes out of the box with a low brightness setting, you will probably need to increase on first use. Also, don’t use HDR, the screen gets all washed out. Having a secondary display makes working on my macbook so much better and ESR is a great brand. I’ve used their other products in the past. Support is very good with ESR.
I’ve been looking for a 2nd monitor for my laptop for a while. I have a very small workspace but still needed the 2nd screen. This screen is perfect. It’s just the right size. It’s thin and super lightweight. It was very easy to set up. I don’t love the toggle on the kickstand as it’s not the easiest to use while connected in the position I have it in, but it’ll do.
So, my young daughter’s MacBook Air display did not survive a run in with a piece of pencil lead between it and the keyboard when the lid was shut. Rather than spend money on an expensive replacement MacBook Air, it was decided to use an external display and make due that way. This model from ESR was at the top of the list. I have a few other ESR products that get used daily – wireless phone chargers, phone battery packs, and car mounts. They all work great and are priced right. That made choosing a portable display made by ESR a no-brainer decision. Getting the portable display connected to the MacBook Air was simple with the provided cables. The monitor settings control mechanism was easy to use and made navigating the OSD a breeze. In our application, the display image was as good as could be expected for a 1080P monitor and it was bright enough for our kid’s needs. We tried both the included HDMI cable and USB-C cable but stuck with using only the USB-C cable since it transfers both power and video to the portable display from the MacBook Air. We are really liking this portable monitor and it allowed us to get some more life out of a busted MacBook Air!
Beautifully presented device, with a case and three cables included! Feels of very high quality – cool metal of a good weight and size and matches the aesthetics of my MacBook beautifully! Gorgeous display with the option of having a portrait mode – really useful for marking assignments in my academic role with the essay in portrait mode in Preview or Word, and Word open on the laptop! Strong feeling and sturdy stand with easy to access buttons for the occasional setting change on the screen hardware (rarely needed). Sturdy stand, two modes, ample ports and cables within a high quality display unit. Really happy with my purchase – would highly recommend!
I needed to buy a second screen and a hub for work. This screen fits both my needs. It has a nice size that works well with my current desktop. The kickstand has an integrated hub that you can use to connect other devices, which many other monitors don’t include. Setting it up with my macbook pro 14 inch was plug and play using the included usb – c cable. The package also comes with a mini hdmi cable with it. Use the instructions to set up the brightness and calibrate to your liking. The best part is that is portable; and it even comes with a carrying pouch! For the money, this is the best portable screen/hub combo in the market. ESR again delivers with another awesome product!
Got this for nieces iPad Pro 11. tested on My 12.9 and works great. This will give her more display when using on desktop. The brightness is good and the quality of the image is good. you can control teh brightness to a limited extent. Obviously the power draw of the display will affect the battery life of the device when using the USB-C connection if not also having a USB-C to a power source. Quick simple setup, can hook up to USB-C of IPad Pro or do HDMI. If you do the HDMI you need to power it on the USB-C port separately. The power level of the 12.9 has no issues. Really cool product and will provide my niece is some larger work space when she wants.
Seeing this monitor from ESR, and having bought some of their items before and being very pleased with them, decided to give it a go. Arrived well packaged in the box all intact including the monitor, a flip style case to keep it in, a USB C – USB C cable, a USB2 – USB C cable and a mini HDMI – HDMI cable.
Fired it up on my MacBook Pro via USB C and am blown away at the ease of having just one cable and no worry about power sockets, bricks or cables . Next tried it with a work’s Windows laptop, again via USB C. Now realising how handy it is to have that extra screen to work off of. This is going to be game changing as and when required, again just one cable !!!!!!!
Then tried it with my iPad Pro. Wow wow wow, working with Stage Manager on the beta of iPadOS 16.2 and enabling second screen so that you get a full screen and non cloned new screen to work with. All with one cable again !!!!!! Am just amazed.
As for the screen, it’s nice and bright, colourful and clear to read and it’s feather light. Have not had it long enough to play around with settings but out of the box it’s brilliant. The fold out kickstand allows portrait/landscape orientation and includes ports on it for USB C x 2 and Mini HDMI
Just keep getting surprised at how handy it can be. It’s definitely going to get hooked up for work tasks as well.
This monitor is perfect for working remotely. I travel a lot for my work but still have a lot of time sat in front of my laptop.
I chose this monitor because I have used ESR products before and they have always been great, and a worth paying a little more for.
When the monitor arrived I was super surprised at how light and thin it was. It’s thinner than my pen!! But still quite rigid, it doesn’t bend at all. It also looks bigger, I think that’s because of the bezel-less edges.
The IO is great too, plenty of options for the display. My laptop only has one USB C and although the monitor has two, I was worried I would not be able to pass through charge, but it can! USB C charger into the monitor, then USB C to the laptop and it starts charging straight away, plus is makes the monitor brighter if it has mains power.
I can’t really comment on what it’s like for gaming, as I won’t be using it for this. A 1080p display with 60Hz refresh isn’t going to be amazing. But it will be better than nothing if travelling.
The cables it comes with all feel high quality. They’re USB C to USB C, mini HDMI to HDMI and USB to USB C, all good lengths.
I can’t quite say the same for the case. It’s okay, but a little too thin for my liking – I will be buying a cheap 15″ padded laptop case, also to keep the cables in a separate pocket as I don’t want the connectors scratching the screen or metal back.
The plastic switch to manage the display menu is a little cheap and fiddily, but it works and it’s rare you need to use it after you’ve chosen all your settings.
All-in-all I would highly recommend this if you travel a lot and still need a second monitor. Super light, great quality and a nice screen size.
Travelling on holiday I found that taking my phone, tablet and other media devices was cumbersome and potentially expensive if we were to ever lose / damage or have them stolen. This was a great travel device to plug phone into to watch videos and let my son view his shows while we got ready. This was lighter and cheaper than taking a tablet.
At home I use this as an additional monitor, I can use this in portrait mode as a document screen, which frees up the laptop and main monitor for my day to day applications.
The monitor comes with all the cables required (usb-c, hdmi etc) but does not include a wall socket adapter (not an issue for me as I have several spares). Connecting to work laptop, home compute or phone went without issue and the quality surpassed a similar desktop monitor.
The sound output is a little tinny, but plenty loud enough for watching a TV show (I would couple this with headphones for viewing movies).
The monitor comes with a leather feel travel pouch, perfect to taking away on holiday, into the office or travelling with it in general.
I was looking for a travel monitor to be able to remote work from abroad. Quality of the image and build is very good whilst being lightweight for travel. The screen size feels the same as my home monitor. Im impressed with all the cables and cover the monitor. The resolution of the screen is quite good. Unfortunately im not a gamer so i cant say whether this monitor would be good for gamers. Its quite good that’s is plug and play with a mac, as most accessories usually arent. it would have been excellent if this was a touch screen to allow changing of settings rather then the pin wheel at the back. On the whole very happy with this.
I ordered this monitor as I needed additional screen real estate for my work. As I often work remotely and am always in meetings, I wanted an additional portable screen to help facilitate presentations and wanted extra screen real to work with.
Comes the ESR portable monitor which I’ve been using for some time now and can confidently say – what an impressive piece of kit!
The screen comes in carefully thought out and quality packaging to ensure the screen does not get damaged during delivery – the package contains the screen itself, 3 cables (usb c to usb c, usb a to usb c and mini hdmi to hdmi cable) and a very thoughtful little carry case (leather like material) to store the monitor – a lovely touch from ESR.
The screen works directly via my macbook pro via usb c – no extra power cable required. I am able to fully utilise this as a second screen, with spreadsheets, word documents and power point presentations being displayed very clearly!
The screen itself is super light and thin, with a sturdy kickstand which allows me to use it in landscape and portait orientations. The screen provides an infinity look – ie being almost bezel-less which adds to the premium feel.
The screen has 2 usb c ports, 1 mini hdmi port and an AUX connection. It also has speakers! So you can play video and control the sound via your device. Video has no lag and is perfect for up to 60fps gaming!
The screen is bright and vivid and very pleasing to the eye.
As an absolute plus, the screen also works with my nintendo switch!!! I’m able to hook this up to the switch with the usb c cable provider and power the screen up using a usb c charger (the monitor will not work with just the connection with the switch – it will need extra power as advised by ESR).
Overall – a must buy! Highly recommended for multi-purpose usage.
Positiv:
+ gute Verarbeitung
+ viel Zubehr
+ portabel
+ theoretisch mit nur einem Kabel nutzbar
+ gutes HDR im HDMI Betrieb
+ gutes DCR im USB-C Betrieb
Neutral:
+/- kein integrierter Akku, dafr sehr leicht
Negativ:
– HDR im USB-C Betrieb etwas dumpfe Farben
– HDR im HDMI Betrieb bentigt 2 Kabel
I’ve had some time to use this device as a second display for a laptop. I like it because the price is competitive for a large display. It comes with multiple cables with different combinations of modern display ports.
Out of the box, the display is somewhat dim and washed out.
You can crank up the brightness and contrast, but I prefer using either HDR or enabling dynamic contrast. These will add punch to the display with less fiddling on the display’s adjustment controls, which consist of a spring-loaded “wheel” and a small button.
Even with HDR enabled, the screen will struggle in bright light. The display also has a very glossy finish, so you may encounter glare.
Although I’ve described some drawbacks, this display does work very nicely under favorable lighting conditions. If you can get the display in some shade and you can avoid glare, the display is crisp and really helps a laptop with a small screen. For example, I’m using this to augment a 14″ laptop, by using the display in portrait mode. If you spend a lot of time cursing the short height on laptop displays, you will be relieved to read documents, emails and web pages on this display.
The display itself feels sturdy enough. It doesn’t have the build quality and heft of an iPad, but it’s also lighter, and also comes with a soft cover to protect it from scratches. The cover will not, however, protect it from drops.
There are two other caveats worth mentioning.
If you are used to using a high-resolution display, say, like a MacBook Pro with a Retina display, this display will not look as sharp, because it doesn’t have the same pixel density. Pair this up with a standard PC laptop, though, and you won’t notice the difference.
Also, there can be issues with video playback from streaming web services. I only tested this on Mac. You may find that Netflix will play content on the screen, but Disney+ and Amazon Prime may not play on the secondary screen. In fact, if you start playing a video on your device’s primary screen and then move that window over to this monitor, the video may simply turn into a black screen, and if you move that window back to the your primary screen, the video may continue to be disabled until you restart playback.
This probably has something to do with copy protection protocols on the streaming content.
Ultimately, I think the ideal use case will be paired with a laptop that has a standard resolution display, and used in a place that does not have super-bright light, and where you can control glare.
This product feels very premium, and matches the aesthetic of my MacBook very well. The display is smooth and responsive and overall I am a fan. My one comment is that it needs to be used plugged into the mains. The screen is rather dim when going off the power of your laptop/phone/tablet alone. When plugged into a standard usb c charger, the screen is nicely bright and I have no complaints.
After fully using the monitor for a couple of days, I am very happy for what it offers
Pros:
– Crisp and clear display
– Super Slim, easy to carry in my backpack
– Lightweight
– Easy to connect. It comes with 3 kind of cables and plug and plays well both in Mac Mini and HP windows laptop. I didn’t have to buy any extra peripherals
-HDR
Cons:
– I would expect a more competitive price for the resolution offered.
– It would be the perfect portable display if it was QHD
Conclusion: I am happy with this purchase since it was among the cheapest ones offering exactly what I need. A portable lightweight solution for when I travel abroad and I need to work remotely.
I was looking for a monitor to connect with my MBP when travelling and thought i would give this a try.
Quality of the image and build is very good whilst being lightweight for travel.
The idea of a built in hub also acting as a kickstand works well in both landscape mode for video and portrait for spreadsheet work when on the move.
I like that I only need a single USB-C cable for power and data as it keeps things light and simple.
Although ESR says you can’t use it with an iPhone and lightning connector i did but it is a bit convoluted (see pics).
You can do it using an Apple lightning to HDMI connector but you have to power the connector with a lightning cable and the monitor with a USB-C cable so you basically need a power brick with both USB-A for the lightning connector and USB-C input to power the monitor. You also need to connect an HDMI cable at the same time but it is possible if you only want to use an iPhone as host.
My only complaint really is the pinwheel selector to access settings on the kickstand as in practice it is imprecise and fiddly to say the least.
Touchscreen would have been much better to access a settings menu but as others have said may well have added to the cost.
On balance I would say the quality of the image and build quality of the unit make it worthwhile in the end.
I love this unit. Have had it for a couple of days now and I’m always finding new uses for it. It works great to take on camping trips – just plug your phone in, and you can have a movie night. Need a second monitor for working at home? Just one cable plugs into my MacBook Pro for power and signal and I’m off to the races. I have raspberry pi’s all over the house, and now I don’t have to move them to debug them – I can just plug in this monitor wherever they are, plug in a wireless mouse/keyboard combo and I’m fixing them. And then the main reason I bought this – I have a tablet holder and place this screen right above my Rane One (DJ controller) for when I’m DJing – so my laptop can live off to the right in case I need a mouse and keyboard to download a song really quick – but right in front of me is just a screen and my DJ controls.
A good USB-C thunderbolt/DisplayPort cable can set you back $50+ alone and this unit appears to have come with a good one. I can also use the HDMI and power ports for older electronics. It also comes with a nice premium looking travel case.
I know there are a lot of similar options on Amazon for a monitor like this. All I can say it that this ESR unit is really cool, and I haven’t had any issues as of yet. I highly recommend this product.
The ESR Kickstand monitor brings portability at an affordable price that doesn’t stop you from having a premium experience at a price that doesn’t break your wallet.
The colours are deep, the speakers are decent and responsibility is snappy.
Whether you’re thinking of purchasing this to game on your Nintendo Switch, to have an external display for your PC setup or simply consume content such as Netflix or YouTube you won’t be disappointed with your experience.
The build is solid and some of the best for this price point and actually beats out some more expensive options out there it holds the weight of the device extremely well and and pressure on the surface you stand it on will not cause it to become unstable.
Upon connecting to my laptop, it instantly turned on and I did not need to change any settings in order to get it to work, content is extremely enjoyable to watch from it and I’m impressed at how vibrant the panel used within the display is. Contrary to popular belief, 1080p is the sweet spot for a monitor at this size.
Speaking on the brightness, it’s solid – decent. Would I up the limit if I could? Yes, but I feel like 250 nits for most use cases is fine.
So that’s the positives, what about the negatives?
The only things I would really change or improve upon on this monitor is the speaker quality, although they’re decent and will do the trick I feel like they do muffle at times and arent exactly punchy I also find the plastic wheel to manage the UI cheap and also not pleasant to deal with however at this price point I don’t think it’s a make or break situation, just things I’d attempt to improve upon for a future iteration as long as it doesn’t influence a price increase.
The price for this monitor is truly the sweet spot for the quality, ESR’s premium packaging and presentation is always great. Being a huge fan of ESR and their phone cases I am delighted that the experience and craftsmanship is not limited to just that division of the business.
I honestly did not have very high expectations for this portable monitor, although ESR is known for their quality products, only because I really wasn’t sure it could offer anything different than other portable monitors on the market but I was wrong. I have tried other portable monitors and this one is definitely NOT the same as the rest.
-First of, the design is simply incredible and, because of its genius design, it takes up very very little space compared to other monitors.
-Second, there are no bezels and the borders are so thin that it takes advantage of the entire screen, no space is lost.
-And most importantly, adjustable kickstand is just incredible- it can be adjusted for best viewing angle which I’ve never seen on any other monitor. The kickstand also serves as the hub for all connections (hdmi and usbc)
-When it comes to picture quality, it is top notch. Text is as clear and crisp as my ipad. It can get very bright yet picture quality does not get affected/washed out.
– I tried it with my Mac Mini and my iPad and it worked great!
-Watching videos is actually enjoyable on it as well. Quality is excellent. Can do split screen on it and do two things at once.
-As for build quality, it really does feel solid and has a nice weight to it yet is light enough to carry around.
-The included leather case is also a great bonus and is made of quality material, however, I wish it was just a bit thicker to ensure the monitor is well-protected from any impact during travel, however, I usually take very good care of my electronics and do not see that as a problem.
-The hdmi & usb-c cables are also of very high quality, thick cables. Definitely do NOT feel cheap.
-Manual is very clear and easy to follow.
-Packaging was actually my initial surprise. It is superb! I felt like I was taking out a Macbook out of the box. It is packaged very very well!
All in all, this is an excellent monitor of very high quality & a great value. Highly recommended for anyone looking to multi-task.
The only thing that I would suggest to ESR to update in future releases is to have a designated switch for volume and brightness. I found myself accidentally triggering the volume instead of brightness and vice versa then have to have to wait until the screen prompt to disappear. Also, if the case could be made a tiny bit thicker that would be great!
This lightweight monitor is thin and very sleek. It was packaged very nicely and came with a little bag for the monitor to fit in.
Pros:
– very portable
– 1080p resolution/60hz refresh rate: full HD resolution and with this size monitor, it is a good resolution
– built in speakers: this is always a good thing especially if you need speakers. There is really no bass on this though, but I doubt you got this monitor for a good speaker system. It has decent high range and an OK mid range.
– comes with all cables needed, including a mini HDMI to HDMI
– no dead pixels or flickering of the screen so far (been on constantly for a week – with a screen saver while not in use)
– plug and play (though a part of this is a con: read con section below): you can simply plug the USB-C to USB-C cable from the monitor to your laptop and it simply powers it and turns on. Easy to use, no fusses.
Cons:
– no power brick to use with the monitor: I’m not sure this is entirely a con, but it doesn’t provide you with a power supply (brick) to plug your USB cable into. It also doesn’t provide much information on what type of power source is needed (volts/amp) for safe usage. I did try it on my Samsung USB-C (image for specs) and it did power up the monitor just fine. I just don’t know if it’s safe or not long term, so I’ll be using the laptop’s USB-C display port.
– Brightness: it’s generally pretty dim unless you enable the DCR setting (read manual on how to update this, but essentially you press in the up/down scroll wheel that is located on the stand). Even with this enabled, it isn’t as bright as my laptop’s screen.
I’ve tried this monitor with my laptop and a gaming device. I was pleasantly surprised by the picture quality. I used this monitor under bright incandescent type light and in a fairly dark room. I was really happy with the picture and the brightness. I only have some minor concerns. First, when I plugged it into my laptop the first time, it looked very washed out. I turned on HDR and it instantly fixed the problem and looked great. When I attached to my game device, and it just worked and looked great, so you may need to check the settings if it doesn’t look good.
I also with it came with a power adapter for when I needed or wanted to power the monitor separately, and I wish there was more in terms of a manual or instructions, but it isn’t that hard to figure out. It was nice that it came with all the cables I needed. The built in speakers aren’t bad, but they are on the stand so they are behind the monitor. With the thin bezel, I don’t know where else the speakers would go, and I prefer a thin bezel like this monitor has. The only minor concern I have is that stand seems to be friction based. It’s nice because you set the angle however you want, but I worry that the friction will loosen over time. Overall I really like this monitor, especially for the price.
I have been using this portable monitor for few days now and it is overall a good choice with few short comings, not surprising at this price point, can’t really expect ipad quality screen for 1/5 of the price.
Packaging:
As you can see in pictures, it comes in a fully padded box. Has all the cables you probably will need and also has a sleeve(not-leather) that you can put your monitor in when travelling I guess. It has a film on the screen and I wasn’t sure if it is a screen protector or just a screen flim but took it out and it is definitely not a screen protector. I wish ESR supplied a screen protector for this, it will be very hard to find a screen protector of this size outside of ESR.
Build, Ports and Buttons:
Builds quality is great, holds solid in your hand. It is a bit top heavy since it has the stand on the back so be careful handling for first few days. Stand is solid, pulls out easily and holds the monitor on a table really nice.
It has all the ports and cables you will need to connect to any USB-C/HDMI capable device. Obviously iPhone’s cant power external monitors so no go for Lightning port devices.
UI settings are managed using a plastic wheel like button on the back, it is definitely not intuitive and feels very cheap and probably will break eventually. I wish ESR went with something else here,
Screen:
Screen is okay, not too bright as your laptop or external powered monitor but at 250 nits, it works great indoors. I haven’t take it outside in the sun but I doubt it would be useful under bright sunlight. Connects to Mac without any extra setup, shows as external monitor. I did increase the brightness to 100%.
The fact that you do not need to carry external power cord and can connec to Mac’s and iPad’s with USB-C and watch media content is a win. A touchscreen would have been really good but definitely not at this price.
This monitor is quite nice. You just plug it in and it’s ready to use. The image quality and resolution is good and I really like that you can use it in either the horizontal position or the vertical position. It comes with 3 different cables to plug it in. There are 2 reasons I didn’t give it 5 stars. The case is a little flimsy, it will protect it from getting scratched but I’d be concerned it might get damaged in a bigger fall. Also, it’s a little bit dimmer than I would have expected.
The ESR Kickstand Portable Monitor is an excellent companion for both your mobile office and home office. Constructed of aluminum and glass, this monitor feel very premium. weighing just above 2 pounds (945g) this monitor is on the heavier side but, to me, it is justified through the build quality. The monitor comes with three cords to fulfill any personal office set up, and a protective carrying case. To my surprise, the monitor has built in speakers which is a plus. Compared to my Asus ZenScreen, the image quality is more crisp and colors are more vivid leading to a better viewing experience. The monitor is plenty bright and I can imagine it will perform well outdoors.
Overall, I would suggest this monitor to anyone looking for a premium product to go along with their mobile or home office. ESR has always produced quality products and this one definitely fits right in.
