HOW MOSS POLES HELP PLANTS GROW

Many people ask us how they can encourage their Monstera and other aroid plant species to grow larger leaves and get those beloved fenestrations. In their natural habitat, climbing aroids like Monstera grow up large tree trunks in the jungle.

As their adventitious roots are able to bind to the tree as it climbs, the plant becomes sturdier and able to support more weight, and as it gets ever closer to the jungle canopy it receives more light which encourages larger leaves to form.

Moss poles imitate this growth habit, and so long as your plant makes contact with the moist moss pole at each node, large leaves will start to develop once the plant attaches to the support with its adventitious roots.

HOW TO USE A MOSS POLE

Gauge how tall you need your moss pole to be. The moss pole should be taller than your plant’s tallest vine in order to give it plenty of space to climb

Once you’ve purchased your moss pole, start by soaking it in water until fully saturated. The moisture will help your plant to bind to the pole

Insert the wood end into the soil, positioning it so that the moss pole is as close to the center of the pot and base of the plant as possible. Take extra care not to damage the main root system of your plants when positioning the skinny moss pole! Start wrapping the plant’s vines around the pole. Securing with twine as you work your way around the pole. Pay extra attention to each node of the plant (where the leaves meet the stem) as this is where adventitious roots will form; try to make sure that each node makes good contact with the moss pole.

When your plant has outgrown your moss pole you simply add an extension to create a longer climbing stick. no need to upset the potted plant by replacing the pole.

I like to use these Moss Poles for some plants because they help them grow correctly.
This pack looks very natural and they are easy to place, the quality is good and the size is perfect, they are good and I recommend them.

As some others have already noted, these will have to wait until a suitably large plant is available for them, although they seem to be fully dried and in any case the moss is wrapped in plastic so storage should present no problems. They are suitably sturdy, so should support any plant in their size range without issue (they come with some twine to aid this which isn’t crucial but a nice touch nevertheless), and seem to be made from pretty much all-natural components.

A recent reviewer has complained about stated size on the box, as clearly they missed the fact that both poles can be slotted together to reach a longer length; this is clear from the product description, and looking at the tops of the poles (although they may require a little clearing of the tight-packed moss to allow the second pole to fit in). The flexibility of having two poles, or one extra-long one which can be assembled as the plant grows (and of course they’ll always manage to somehow reach a massive size when you’re not looking!), is quite a nice feature of the pack.

They may be a little more expensive than others, but the all-natural look will be an advantage as it will help them blend into the background and not draw attention from the plants themselves.

I ordered this to go on top of other moss poles I already have, as my monstera is rapidly growing!

It is perfect, the natural feel to it is great. I love this product.

These are great TBH and my only mild ambivalence is around cost compared to similar Moss Ploes. I have 6 of their rival products and would say these are ‘better’ in the sense they are slimmer, covered in real moss, and come with nice string rather than nasty wire ties. However, they cost around 6 more than the others did. With these the pole spikes are better as they seem longer, just slightly but notable, and sharper/easier to insert. I would recommend them for looks alone, as the slimmer profile makes them less obvious and the Moss covering is very good. So overall, for me these are a very good 4****.

Good quality for the price, I had a large monstera that needed extra support, and being able to stack both together to make a single tall pole worked well for this. The moss is a good standard, only a few pieces flaked off as expected, and looks much nicer than a plain pole. The twine was useful too, it wasn’t quite enough for me as my plant is very large so I’ll need to get extra but it should be enough for most people. Overall pleasantly impressed at the product for the price.

    Brilliant moss pole!

These moss piles are great. Rhey can be used for indoor or outdoor plants and they can be used separately or joined together. They feel well made and not heavy which is good. I inserted the stick into the soil which is easy to do. Recommended

We have a marble queen pathos which is in a hanging basket and is getting too big, so we wanted to see if we can encourage her to climb upwards, rather than trail down. Hence our need for some sturdy moss poles.

Previous poles we’ve had have looked flimsy and plastic. Or they come with plastic twine which cuts into the plants. These moss poles are well made and sturdy. The wooden spike is quite thick, and will easily take the weight of our marble queen pathos climbing up it. And the supplied twine is a natural product.

You can spray the moss to provide some humidity, which some plants need to thrive.

Be aware that what we actually got were two 15.5″ poles and when you stack them together, you get 26″ – both these measurements include the spike, so you actually get less usable pole for your plants to climb.

Overall, we’re very pleased with this product and would recommend it for customers who want an ‘all natural’ product. 12 for both poles and the twine at the time of writing.

Good quality sturdy poles that easily slot into the top of each other to create one long pole with the height I need.

The aerial roots of my overgrown plant have already been attracted by the stored moisture in the moss.
I did follow the instructions and soaked the mossy part of the poles in the water prior to installing them into the pot.

Now my leafy buddy has plenty of support to carry on growing and no need to worry about the weight of new stems or leaves on the top.

Also, these poles happen to be compatible with the one that I already have so I can stack them up when the time comes to extend the height of the climbing stick.

It feels more or like a handmade moss pole and looks great for the interiors. Used this for my monsters and matches the colour.
Unlike the moss poles wrapped with coconut fibres, these got a greenish shade and a in design, a bit imperfect.
Overall, I like this unusual look very much.

    A bit odd to see

The “Twin-Pack of Moss Poles” from “HuiPoLii” (and sold here through the TsLolly Store) are a pair of wonderfully natural and well-made moss poles for supporting your houseplants with.

We have a rather crazy philodendron that was beginning to hang really quite far down from its pot. We therefore decided to order these moss poles, to prop the thing up with, so it doesn’t end up traipsing on the floor or damaging itself from its own weight.

The quality of these moss poles is excellent. Yes, it’s real moss that’s been applied to the poles, so you’ll need to be a little careful with it when you remove the pole from the cellophane that it’s packaged within.

You also get a small amount of fairly standard household string to tie your plant to the pole with. This is nothing to shout about, although nice to have some included, so it makes it that little easier — if you haven’t got any string handy.

All in all we’ve been very impressed with the moss poles. Worked wonders for our philodendron, and looks pretty neat too!

Unlike others I tries, these feel and look very natural, with no plastic.
Even the provided cord is biodegradable twine.
They do loose bits and pieces initially when unpacked, so better to do that somewhere where it will not be a problem.
Passing my hand over the surface a few times removed all the loose bits and they ded not flake after.
The poles can be used either as two short supports or stacked on top of each other, as I did to support a chilli plant which I had left in the garden abandoned, and had collapsed to a side.
It works well and is not too visible.
They come in a cardboard box, but they are also wrapped in plastic tighty, I would prefered if the packaging was all recyclable perhaps.

Looks good and feels quite natural

This comes in nice packaging with each moss pole covered in plastic and a handy bit of string to tie the plant to it

It was a perfect size for my monstera, and I’m sure I last a long time.

A lot of climbing pole supports for plants are made from coco coir and I think it’s ghastly looking stuff and can’t also be a pain free aerial roots from once they’ve attached themselves but these natural moss poles are so much better – both aesthetically and practically.

Sphagnum and other moss types are common choices for plant propagation but are also ideal for support poles like this as they retain water much more effectively and efficiently than the OG coir poles.

I shall be putting the two 17″ poles together to make the larger 27″ pole and that’s another benefit of this design – could theoretically add as many on top of one another as you needed.

This set also worked out cheaper than buying most coir contemporaries.

I’m super pleased with this and will be using them when I repot one of my Philodendron shortly.

Once we have finished decorating my son’s new house, week 4 now and only two rooms really left to do, I will be turning his bedroom into my home office. He has a monstrosity of a desk, all formica, but very practical because it has a good size flat design with cubby holes for storage, so I want to make it look less ugly by adding some oxygen giving plants etc. The desk will be able to take quite big plants and it is my intention to have a dark green feature wall, with new light fittings etc.

So diy stint at his house over and then these will be taking pride of place in the new room with some stunning specimen plants. I try to have at least one plant in each room to give the house a more botanical vibe in the depths of Winter.

Houseplants became very popular during lockdown, but they can be very useful to oxygenate, de-toxify our homes. Go on green up your life, the colour of nature has a calming effect. These are lovely because they are a natural product.

Going into the new home office once I get the plants

Very good quality moss stick, Easy to use, you just need to insert the moss stick into the plant pot soil and attach the plant to the stick using provided wrapping plant’s vines, the stick provides an excellent water retention ability, and helps the plants to grow upward, the moss stick made from a 100% 100% natural moss. Arrives in pack of 2 you can use each separately or you can attach them for longer plants.
One advice you have to be careful when inserting the stick which could damage the root and kill you plant, so add more water to the soil and wait for 5 minutes until the soil gets very wet, then insert the moss stick.
    Very satisfied!

    Excelle

Nice mossy sticks to help hold up your plants. I didn’t know these were available and it’s going to help give my money plant shape again!

You get two wooden stakes with moss wrapped around. The very top looks like plastic tubing though. You’re able to use them individually or stacked for longer plants. I’m not entirely sure how these work because it’s said it helps with climbing plants but the pictures show a monstera plant and it’s been tied. In any case, it’ll help give my plans better shape so I’m happy x

Skinny but I think it'll work

Love the moss poles! The moss looks fresh. I was told I needed it for my “monstra bla-blah” it looks so nice & helped it grow upward so it is really healthy. It’s versatility has helped me manage my unruly monstera plant. The kit included two moss sticks, twine to help secure the plant onto the moss pole. Would highly recommend this product!
