I am a big Raspberry Pi fan, it’s an awesome piece of kit. I have one running Home Assistant right now, and this second one is going to power a home made Arcade Machine / Gaming Station. The kit came with everything required to get started.. heck even two HDMI cables for dual display functionality. A few reviews have mentioned lack of instructions for this kit. You REALLY don’t need them – look at the pictures with this review – that’s all you need!

It’s a shame how expensive Pi’s have become, but – hey ho – everything has shot up!

Really pleased with my purchase – looking forward to tinkering with it more!

First thing to say here is that this is a genuine Raspberry Pi 4 product, sealed in its original packaging.

I had been looking for one for the best part of a year, but with the current chip shortages, all the usual suppliers have been out of stock for a long while. So I decided to order this starter pack from Sanoov, and was pleased to receive it promptly and everything well packed inside a cardboard box.

The kit contained a boxed and sealed original raspberry pi 4, along with a 32GB Sandisk ultra micro SD card. I thought the card might have the OS pre-installed, but this was not the case. However, there were two separate adapters in the box – a larger SD card and also a USB adapter, so I had plenty of options to plug it into my laptop and install the Raspberry Pi OS. Very quick and easy – just took 5 minutes. After popping this back in the Pi, it booted and I was up and running.

Later pi models are very particular about power, and they dont work well with just any old USB-C lead. But this power supply unit works great and even has a handy on/off switch, so you dont need to yank the cable to power-cycle. There were two HDMI leads included, allowing you to connect the device to two separate screens.

Assembling the Pi in the supplied black case was straightforward. The case itself is well moulded black plastic and fits the pi snugly. There were 4 retaining screws (screwdriver included!) to fix the pi firmly to the base of the case, and 4 copper heat sinks to attach to the processor, RAM and 2 other chips. The fan draws power directly from the GPIO – no instructions included, but a quick internet search showed this connects to the second and third pin. The fan runs silently and pushes a fair amount of air around, and my pi is currently running at a very cool 38 degrees C. You can configure the fan to turn on and off at certain temperatures withing the pi’s configuration settings. Once it’s all put together, it really looks quite premium. No issues plugging in the cables or accessing the SD card. There are even tiny windows to see the system lights blinking away whilst it’s running!

I’m going to be using my Raspberry Pi as an OSMC/Kodi media streamer, so everything I needed was already in the box. Bear in mind that you’ll need to find a keyboard to go with it if you are wanting to use it as a PC.

Overall, I’m very happy with this starter kit and to FINALLY get my hands on a RasPi4!
