Me and my grandson went out to make our fortune with this from the beach, well, I’m really impressed, this squeaked at every single bit of metal on the beach and I spent hours trying to find something worth while and the most worth thing was the fun we had so I definitely, definitely recommend this for anyone with a kid it was just pure excitement for him

Fun first step to lean about how to detect things, my oldest has found a lot of interesting “treasures”, successfully searched through gravel, weeds soils, beach and backyard, easy and lightweight for him to operate, super fun weekend activity for the kids or weirdos like me lol

Took it for a whirl around my backyard. Picks us small coins close to surface. Nothing to fancy shovel and fork are pretty sturdy. It’s a nice little set up to keep the kids busy. Battery lasts awhile I have had it on for a few hours with no issue.

This is a great (lower cost than competitors in the market) metal detector for kids with features to match the target market & price point.

As other reviewers have noted, stick to adult assembly here. It runs on a (non-rechargable) battery, turns on and off & has few frills.

But that’s really all budding explorers need in a metal detector to begin with the hobby.

We live in an area rife with historic battle fields, hiking grounds & (man-made) lake front beaches, so there is plenty of lost metal to be located/dug for.

Considering that this is an entry level option, don’t expect it to detect things that have been buried too deep, but it’s perfect for kids & their ability level.

It’s provided hours of entertainment for our crew.

This metal detector is easy to assemble. Comes with the needed battery. Great gift for kids who like to go on “treasure hunts”. It is plastic though, so you do have to be careful when assembling it and don’t be too forceful. If you have real little ones, I would suggest assembling it for them. I got this for my son for Christmas and will update my review after he has a chance to use it a few times.

*I had to shorten my video to upload so excuse the abrupt start and end.
What do you do when you need to find a tiny bolt **that you dropped in the sand, but your kids want to play with your metal detector? You get them one their size!
We’ve had so much fun camping at the same spot for over 25 years. It’s in a bowl-like area and it’s full of sand.
We thought we would check if there was anything in the sand around the firepit. Oh my gosh! It was full of stuff. Sand just swallows things. And after all those years of us being at that spot, there was lots to find. We didn’t even scratch the surface. Most of it was parts of tin cans and unrecognizable things that must have been melted/burned over the years.
I love that the adults can use the ‘real’ metal detector, and the kids can use this little cutie. The only problem now? We need more of them! Everyone wants to use them at the same time!

A tip for helping the kids. We brought a sifter. The detector isn’t super sharp at telling exactly where things are. So when we found a ‘beep’ we would shovel the dirt from that area into a sifter and then shake it until we found the metal item.
There are no settings on this. It’s on or off. If it finds metal it beeps and fills the meter all the way so you can’t tell how deep or what you’re hitting on. I didn’t expect it to, but just don’t be deceived by the LCD screen. It’s perfect for kids. They don’t need it to be complicated. Simple is best.
I took pictures of the shovel it comes with because it’s not pictured anywhere in their ad. I personally don’t let the little ones use this shove. The tip and edge of it are sharp and there are always little fingers in the sand trying to find the object while the other child is using the detector so this shovel could definitely cause some damage. It’s a handy fold up shovel, but it’s a little tricky to get the handle to lock in place. Give the kids little plastic shovels to use.

Another thing I would suggest. Don’t let kids build it or take it apart. One false move and they will pull the wire out. Also the pvc came apart last time we were putting it together so it had to be glued (it just slid out from the red piece, so it didn’t break). I would hand it to them ready to go. It’s not super complicated but it’s more that if you want this thing to last more than a couple of uses, then an adult needs to carefully dis/connect the wire joint. It takes a little bit of finagling to get the connection because the plastic warps a little.
I put it together on video with a few tips so watch that if you need to. There weren’t instructions on putting it all together.
I’m giving it 4 stars because it isn’t super solid construction.
I have a son who is sure he is going to find buried treasure. If he does I’ll come back and add the last star.

** We found the tiny bolt!

    Keep them busy for hours!

I wasn’t sure what to expect when i ordered this. It does what it is supposed to do. It is made of rather cheap feeling plastic but it is quite light and shouldn’t wear the kiddos out as they scan the whole yard for buried treasure. My son already found a gold ring with an amethyst in it. we had it appraised at around 700 so that’s his treasure he found in our yard.

OK, full disclosure, I got this for myself. I’ve wanted to try metal detecting for some time, but wasn’t sure I’d have the patience to find bottle caps and trash. Unfortunately, there is a ton of snow on the ground now, so I can’t test it outside yet. However, I tried it inside, and the device works great. It has an LCD strength meter and a variable audible alert when it finds metal. It’s lightweight and good for kids (as advertised). This was a very inexpensive way to try metal detecting.

You can also use this as a studfinder. It does a great job at finding nails in walls and floors, along with duct work and wires. I was debating about knocking out a wall, but this gadget told me there’s a ton of stuff inside the walls, so I saved myself the aggravation.

It comes with a 9v battery, and I had a little trouble getting the cover to stay on. Otherwise, it worked perfectly. I recommend this product, but understand what it’s designed for (kids mostly).

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersGreat for kids. Sure.

Picks up larger things very well.
Picks up a couple paperclips, coins also.

The 6yo will feel like a true treasure hunter with his teen brother that has a slightly more professional version.

It will be a fun break from fishing to go around the lake or campsite or what-have-you.

Small enough for 10 and under to comfortably handle with two hands.

I’ll be having them clean up the yards, too, years worth of nails and bolts and washers and nuts from various projects and previous owners. Fun stuff.

My 10 year old was able to find 3 pieces of metal in our yard within 30 mins.

Obviously not a professional grade but I could see you finding something cool with this.

We will be trying it out in other areas for better luck.
