Tl;dr – This is a fairly typical hardware store tap intended solely for infrequent domestic use.
This tap and its component parts are well made from an engineering POV. However, upon closer inspection, you begin to see where the weak points are. But first, the good!
One of my bugbears with hardware store taps like this is when they do not tighten to a near-perfect stop because there is a little too much thread so the tap ends up wonky, no matter what you do. You know the ones I mean well if you are a keen gardener. Well, this one comes to a perfect stop at 180so the water pours vertically instead of to the side a bit and then down!
Everything fits together nicely with no obvious causes for concern… if used infrequently.
The tap handle is an immediate weak point because – like the main body of the tap – this appears to be made of a cast-poured brass alloy; the kind that is known for cracking under duress (don’t ask me how I found that out, I’d rather forget that day, haha). The other brass components appear to be made from a more solid form and are again well-engineered.
The plastic mount doesn’t feel to be made of the strongest plastic. It has the look of ABS, but not a very strong form if it is.
If you are the type of household that is mechanically (direct tap manipulation) using an outdoor tap on a frequent basis throughout the day, then this tap may not be for you.
If you are the type of household that uses such a tap infrequently, or perhaps you leave the hose permanently connected with the hosepipe acting as the tap-stop and you are interacting directly with the tap infrequently, then this will do the job.
