Great processor for the price. If you are using an older am4 motherboard you may need to flash the bios to get this working.
Great for gaming and 3D modelling.
This CPU on sale gets so cheap it’s unbelievable. If you’re setting out to build a new pc it’s better getting am5 for ddr4 and future proofing a little bit (which you can do with motherboards)
If however you are upgrading with an existing AM4 board get it. It’s well worth it especially if you are coming from 1st or 3rd gen Ryzen.
Excellent low budget processor, was able to play ets2, No-mans sky, Assetto Corsa, Dredge and a few more on decent settings until i got a graphics card. Would recommend if your on a budget.
Bought this during the GPU crisis and it served very well, played most games 60fps at 1080p and that’s all I wanted at the time, I have a GPU now so its apu isn’t required but still a good overall CPU
Good cpu for mid range builds. I’m stupid so I bought this for my 7800xt cuz I forgot about the AM5 cpus. Tho the cpu will work with the 7800xt and 4070 you will have around a 10% bottleneck so be careful
This beats a 10700k Hands Down.
It has better thermals than the 10700k, is generally faster than the 10700k and even the 11700k.
It did not suit my specific use case so I returned it, but hey, if you are looking for a powerful AM4 CPU for gaming and content creation, this is it!
Great little CPU. Chucked this one in for a mini virtualisation host, wanted the APU to save on extra PCIe lanes in the system. With this the footprint can be made much smaller and its heat output is much less than the intel CPUs i’ve used in the past.
12 Threads is ample for running as part of a mini cluster and running 15-20 VM’s/LXCs.
It supports 64GB RAM, but unofficailly you can run 128GB with it.
best budget/performance option, sadly with some motherboards it does not let youto have more than 2 screens, which is very odd in 2023. other than that i can recommend this product.
I upgraded from an Ryzen 9 3900XT and the difference is very noticeable, especially in games. I realised my CPU was the bottleneck, so this was an excellent upgrade. It’s very fast and easy to swap out.
its a great cpu with some verry solid performance for the price. the first ryzen 5 i have ever baught as all my other systems are intell or higher end ryzen but even at a lower spec and lower price it did not dissapoint. would definelty buy again and will use in lost of my future builds. This cpu kind of seems to be the default ryzen cpu for all gaming pc’s and other ryzen pc’s. Cant go wrong with this cpu
ow they are using LGA sockets these install the same way as Intel processors (though of course require different motherboards as pin layouts etc are different).
This is a very fast processor and is great value for the money. performance is close to my Intel i7 12700 but is considerably cheaper.
I got this to upgrade from my old FX chip and I found it so much faster. It was easy to install. The cooling solution is the fan and heatsink with the thermal paste already applied and ready to install. It seems to run faster, cooler and quieter than my previous chip. It does everything I want.
This was an upgrade from the 5600x (same power consumption), Straight swap with the usual cleaning of the cooler (Noctua D15s) and new thermal paste. (I also changed the board from B550 Unify to X570s at the same time). Runs cooler and faster than the 5600x without breaking the bank. As a matter of interest the mainboard is currently showing 27 degrees C.
upgraded from a ryzen 5 2400g, a lot faster and allows for more cpu intensive tasks – video editing, gaming. fps is a lot more stable and fps increase when playing games. Best cpu for mid range gaming pcs. however check your motherboards bios and if your current bios doesnt support this cpu, make sure you update before changing cpu. – i didnt and had to reinstall my old cpu for me to update bios.
To say this is night and day over the APU in the 2016 AMD PC build it has replaced is an understatement. Yeah it may be a 2 year old APU but if you are coming as I was from a much older and weedier APU you will be very happy I think with the same. The included Wraith cooler runs very quietly only becoming noticeable if your working the CPU hard (say encoding video with Handbrake) and even then not annoyingly so.
Upgraded from Ryzen 2000 series, so I noticed several subtle differences.
New CPU is *extremely* fast and power efficient.
The Wraith Stealth cooler still has the same annoying design which demands awkwardly holding the backplate from the back of the case while trying to fix it in the front. But they did change the cooler slightly: the fan is now slightly noisier, and the AMD logo shroud around the fan is now screwed on for some reason, so the logo orientation can’t be fixed without removing the entire annoying heatsink.
The new Radeon logo case sticker is not shiny so I kept the old one.
For the new CPU I also had to update the BIOS, which brought new issues: the keyboard no longer works in GRUB, and Linux warns that the TSC clock is unstable. I expect this is technically the fault of the motherboard (MSI, never again) rather than AMD, although it also would never have happened if I hadn’t bought the new CPU…
-1 star primarily because AMD had specifically announced that Zen 2 would have Spectre fixes, but /proc/cpuinfo shows this Zen 3 CPU is still vulnerable to Spectre variants 1 and 2 and SSB. I can’t find a straight answer from AMD on whether this is accurate.
I`ve created this review for people, like myself, considering updating an older Ryzen CPU for this end phase of the Ryzen 4 chipset.
I pondered doing this for quite some time, read reviews researched etc, but I did have some doubts, even at a great price (163) its still a lot of cash for something that may not make a huge difference.
Well, no worries on that front at all, as you can see from the pictured CPUBenchmark results, the upgrade in performance is significant.
The whole machine feels a lot snappier than before, more so than I expected. Software I run (Ableton + Games) are all more responsive, most games I`m getting noticeable increase in framerates.
Fitting this was a easy, I also bought a Wraith Prism CPU cooler, as I was unsure if my stock 3600 cooler would do the job, plus its got lights on it!! As it goes, temps are actually better than the older 3600 so I think the older stock cooler would have done the job.
For anyone with an older Ryzen looking to extend the life of their kit, I would recommend this CPU. I avoided the 5800x as the performance to price increase is not so good, additionally, it consumes more power and thus generates more heat.
Super chuffed with this, reckon I`ve got another 4-5 years on this build now, probably longer!
It says it in the description, but apparently I am blind.
Bought the 5700X.
I am using the cooler that was on my 3200G, (Wraith Stealth,) and it’s doing an adequate job, but I’m sure I will need something better if I want to get the most out of it.
Other than that it is excellent value for money.
Works very well for gaming and productivity, as 6 core CPUs are ideal for gaming. In most cases, the stock cooler is good enough for most situations unless you are overclocking. Well packaged as to be expected and very easy to install
The 5950X processor is a beast. It annihilates everything I throw at it. The only downside to this chip is the cost, but that said, it’s totally worth stretching to if possible as it’ll be quite some time before another upgrade is needed and the performance it delivers is simply lovely. Even the intensive apps I use are smooth as butter and it provides the processing power to support the latest games. A powerful CPU like this will easily provide the speed to support the latest games and help the latest graphics cards reach their potential. Pairing a 4 series RTX GPU for example, with an older/slower processor, will cause bottlenecks, limiting the potential of both. With a 5950X, that simply isn’t an issue, it’s fantastic.
So yeah, pricey, but you get an awful lot for the money. I love this chip.
Very easy to install (even as an amateur builder myself). Had it for 6+ months now and no overheating problems, no crashes etc. I have no need to buy from Intel ever again!
Performance: With its 12 cores and 24 threads, along with a whopping 70MB cache, this processor is a powerhouse. Whether you’re a gamer, content creator, or running resource-intensive applications, the Ryzen 9 5900X handles it all with ease. The max boost clock of up to 4.8 GHz ensures snappy performance even during demanding tasks.
Temperature: It’s worth noting that this CPU can run a bit warm, with temperatures fluctuating between 40-60 degrees Celsius under load. However, it’s important to emphasize that this temperature range is well within the safe operating range for this processor and does not impact performance. To get the most out of this CPU, I highly recommend investing in a quality cooler like the Dark Rock Pro 4 or Noctua D15. These coolers will not only keep temperatures in check but also allow for potential overclocking without any thermal concerns.
Versatility: What sets the Ryzen 9 5900X apart is its versatility. It excels in both gaming and productivity tasks, making it a great choice for users who demand the best of both worlds. Whether you’re playing the latest AAA games or rendering 4K video, this CPU delivers exceptional performance.
Compatibility: It’s important to ensure your motherboard is compatible with this CPU, as it requires an AM4 socket and a BIOS update on some motherboards to work at its full potential. Make sure to check compatibility before purchase.
Overall: The AMD Ryzen 9 5900X Processor is a true marvel of technology, offering an incredible blend of power and efficiency. While it may run a bit warm under load, this doesn’t affect its outstanding performance. With the right cooler, you’ll unlock its full potential and enjoy a seamless computing experience. Whether you’re building a gaming rig or a workstation, this CPU is an excellent choice.
This CPU is a really good contender for budget PC builds, as it’s price point gets you quite a lot – 6 cores, onboard graphics, stock cooler, and overall pretty decent performance.
No surprise really, but this CPU has made a noticeable improvement to video rendering software.
One thing to note, when I first installed it there was no display on my monitor. Turned out I needed to update the BIOS to recognise the chip. That required me to reinstall my old CPU. Once updated the new chip worked perfectly.
I upgraded from a Rysen 5 3600 to this and the performance is amazing it runs everything great matched with my rtx 2070 the only issue I didn’t know about before hand was that it runs very hot but after doing research that’s just how the processor is and it hasn’t impacted it after a few months use. It’s also very good for the money.
I got this for a new build miniPC that I built using the ASRock DeskMini X300. Very easy to build, but bear in mind the fan that comes with this processor won’t fit on the board.
Installed 2x8gb crucial DDR4 ram and a crucial 1TB NVME SSD. Then installed Fedora 38,and restarted, and the boot up speed is so fast! You’re at the log in screen in about 4s!
Very pleased and would recommend highly.
I had problems with high temps on my R7 5800X3d purchased not that long ago, and had to wait for a BIOS update. So I decided to find another processor in the meantime. The R9 5900X price is just great at the moment, so I tried it.
I am getting much higher speeds on most of my own software (I am a developer) and on sim games including msfs, especially in VR.
I am also undervolting and using the same cooler that I have been using since by R7 3700X if you can believe that! We don’t see much discussion about this little gem, but it is perfect for my needs.
System:
x570 Aorus pro v1.0 f37b BIOS ReSize Bar enabled
R9 5900X
64GB ECC 3200 RAM
RTX 4900 fe
Win 10 Pro 22H2
I made the title this because this is the second time ordering a AMD ryzen 9 5900x. I have to get in contact with amazon customer services as I received mine on the 9th and in the amazon box was a empty AMD box, the CPU was missing. But thank to amazon quick service they were able to refund me my amount to get a new one and it came on the 10th, luckily was all there and is working amazingly well just a shame had to go though the hassle.
Despite me being at 1440p, this improved a LOT of titles. Games like Battlefield with their high CPU requirements can finally touch 100+ FPS consistently. Or TLOU and it’s now semi-broken port, finally functioning as it was intended (DLSS didn’t do anything prior to this upgrade due to an immense bottleneck).
It’s a phenomenal chip and equally fantastic upgrade. An aging king for a top class platform.
I used this processor in to builds. Both builds were on a limited budget. This enabled me to install a better motherboard and other components. Both systems have great upgrade potential, but for photo editing you would only get at 2 to 5% improvement in performance and spend a lot more money. Thing a different for anyone doing professional video editing, ect. But for some starting out or just doing it for fun or to learn it ok

Embrace the power of Ryzen and unleash unparalleled performance with the AMD Ryzen 9 5900X Processor!
The CPU arrived from PSSL completely sealed, definitely genuine OEM, etcetera, so I don’t know what these other reviews are talking about.
The problem (speculating here…) is that these do appear to be so much cheaper because they are reject RMA samples that cannot run at advertised clocks / memory CAS.
I am having unlimited trouble running my memory at 3200mhz/CAS16, and the memory I KNOW is perfectly fine because it was stable on my old Ryzen 2700x that I replaced with this.
I had to underclock the CPU I/O SOC to make it stable, which drops a bit of PCI Express performance.
Otherwise, all good, and for like 100 less than RRP I sort of expected these might be re-sold (tested) RMA units.
Great cpu. Easy to cool. Best value to performance for AM4.
This was bought as an upgrade for my desktop which I rebuilt in 2017 with a Ryzen 5 1600 6-Core CPU, which back then cost 200.
The Ryzen 7 5700G cost me less than my original CPU, so I can safely say CPU prices are less crazy now than 6 years ago (at the time of writing this).
I’ve gained an extra 2 cores/4-threads, and a secondary, integrated GPU, which is always good as a backup. This may provide more useful in the future as more games add Multi-GPU support via DirectX 12 and Vulkan.
CPU power consumption is the same as my old Ryzen 5 1600, at 65W. However, if you fire up the integrated GPU it will add on another 20 – 30W, which is actually not bad considering it’s a down-scaled Vega 8 GPU.
Overall, I think its a well-priced (161 at the time of writing) upgrade if you’re coming from the previous generation of 6-Core Ryzen 5 CPUs. Highly recommended.
Had this for a month now and has made quite the difference. Upgrading from a 2600x to this, felt this was worth it over the 5600x as you just need to oc it a bit tk get up to the speeds that a 5600x offers for a fair chunk of difference in the price! Gaming has been fantastic and generally been a breath of fresh air upgrading over a good 5/6 year cpu.
This CPU is amazing! The power it has is over enough for what I need for VR and other non-VR games. The price is also excellent (when I bought it at the time 129), and the overall use is great, it doesn’t spike, glitch nothing! If you want something cheap that works fast, this is the one for you!
Games are running so smoothly
fortnite: 160fps i normally have and its stable
(i have no graphics card yet)
games run really well and i 100 % reccommend
This is a slightly older processor now which is why I was able to purchase at a discount. It’s extremely fast due to the large number of cores. Great purchase, highly recommended.
Keep in mind that this CPU does not come with its own cooler. Initially I was using the risen wraith cooler which shipped with my old CPU and the thermals were not great. Such a powerful CPU has the potential to run hot.
You’ll possible want to consider purchasing a reasonable liquid cooler to go with this CPU along with some decent thermal paste to get the best results. So keep in mind there will be some extra expenses if you want to maximise the value of this.
You should also know that this CPU did not work out of the box with my Asus B150m-k ii motherboard. I was getting a black screen only. It was necessary to flash a firmware updated to the motherboard. This turned out to not be as difficult as it might sound, but just be aware that there are extra steps to get this CPU working with some motherboards.
Easy to install as all amd CPU’s ..works perfectly…great for htpc builds
AM5 as a whole platform upgrade is a massive investment and for the price point there are extremely good Intel alternatives. If like me you still run AM4 and have previous generation cpu’s the Zen 3 5700X brings the best of what AM4 could offer. Sure its not the top of the range cpu but as an all round multi tasker and gaming cpu its very solid paired with a mid tier gpu. It’s 65w tdp ensures energy efficiency compared to the 5800X with a tiny margin between them. It is possible to overclock it to match 5800X performance by simply turning on PBO2. Just make sure your motherboard has the latest Bios and will support Zen 3 cpu’s.
So far I’m really happy with this cpu and should be good for a few more years until AM5 is more mature and more importantly cheaper for the whole system upgrade.
Although it was delivered open and when I questioned this with Amazon they were quite dismissive, the CPU was not where I expected it to it had fallen to the bottom of the package , that aside fitted the CPU in and it’s great highly recommend
Used this to make a tiny ITX PC. Has plenty of performance for everyday tasks and the built in graphics are good enough for modest gaming. I’ve been enjoying Cities:Skylines and Two Point Hospital on it, neither are particularly demanding by modern standards, but you should be able to get most games to work playable on this CPU. Included box cooler is fine too, not too loud.
The Ryzen 5 5600 is a great cooler. Unfortunately, though my stock cooler has an extremely irritating high-pitched coil whine, even at idle and sounds like a Chinook taking off while I’m gaming.
Got a 240mm AIO on order to replace the stock cooler.
Well I have to admit, the reviews and what the manufacturer had yo say about the processor were all true and it is a brilliant unit. I can’t believe ad to how much it has sped up my pc. I will hold hand up and say that I understand all of the tech jargon associated with this unit. I picked it on what was said in lay man’s English, which made me choose the unit. I did watch several videos on it’s performance and what it can do. I was completely sold on the unit upon watching the videos. I can now run my programs that made my pc slow right down or cause a severe lag. Running these are now at total breeze. It’s performance is exceptional.
I recently update a lit of components on my pc. I am so glad that I did. Buying this processor has been one of my best ever buys. If you are caught in 2 minds as to whether to buy it, then I would take the chance, you won’t regret it.
The only thing I can say that other buyers need to be aware of is that this does run quite hot. I would look into which type of cooler is the heat to run with it. There are double fans with a cooling radiator in between them or there are water pumped coolers. Read into which you would prefer to use. If you have a midi case like I have then the double fan will not fit as there is not enough room. It will fit but with only one fan attached to its heat sink.
I would not hesitate in recommending this processo
Upgrade from 2700x And I cant see massive improvement just a faster rendering time but that’s pretty much it. Its a comment from a user perspective not the guy who runs every single test and looks at every change in numbers. Plus its hotter my 2700x was running 26-45 celsius. Now its 40-60 on average as well very high change in MHZ. So 2700 was running continuously on 4mhz 4.2 at tops. When this runs 3.9 and the shoots up to 4.9mhz and the goes up and back up and back. No OC were made just a Default setting. For cooling Im using Noctua tower. Great if you have broken system and looking for upgrade in AM4 chip world. Or waiting till AM5 chip systems will work stable. But would not recommend to get it just as an upgrade search for some ways to improve your system and leave chip set last.
Fortunately I was able to find a few threads , regarding undervolting 5000 Ryzen series, using smart Curve optimisation, BIOS feature (luckily my mini B450i motherboard have sufficient update for it). Settin this parameter to -28 for all cores and manualy chosing the new value for PBO settings + setting all of the fans fir 100%, after the temperature in CPU raising 70C, I was able to achieve stable 72-77C, playing Cyberpunk 2077 (2K, Ultra, DLSS Balanced -15, Raytracing Psycho) with avarage 40fps!
Really happy with this CPU! Keep in mind it’s avarage running temperature, if you are planning to use in compact builds, like me. It’s 65w CPU, so 5800x ir 5900x will be running even hotter, as they are 115w. Another words, this one seems to be the best option for compact PCs, which can still be tunned to be runned under 80C with the most heaviest game titles.
I bought this for a building project with my son as he really needed an affordable upgrade
Great cpu though I’m not using the integrated graphics on the chip and it works great
One thing to note make sure your cpu and motherboard is compatible as I have had many people saying this does not work
If its to upgrade your existing cpu and it is compatible but after installing the cpu the system refuses to boot your OS that likely means you will need to put the old cpu back in and flash the bios version to an updated version with added compatibility this information can be found from your motherboards manufacturer and there are many YouTube videos showing how to flash the bios safely
For the price, you get a lot of performance and a relatively decent integrated GPU. I would keep in mind that the included cooler is barely sufficient, it runs 86c max under cinebench R23, I tried the included paste and also tried my MX-4 paste, no real difference. Also noisy. Under most circumstances it will not run this hot however. If you have the extra 15-20 it is worth it to buy a better cooler, doesn’t have to be anything fancy, just something better than the included cooler. But the included cooler will do the job.
So I bought this as an upgrade for my ancient PC that had and A series chip. Ended up basically building my 1st ever pc. As being on somewhat of a budget this was within that, however I wish I purchased the 5800x version I stead that went on sale but didn’t know better back then. The description of this item (r7 5700g) I think, needs to be a bit more clear, specially for 1st time buyers.
The 5700g does come with a heatsink and a wraith fan so at least you can set it up and go. It also has an integrated graphics as well if you cant afford to get a gpu just yet. Its not great but at least it’s there.
Performance wise, I mainly do blender work and it is a very noticeable improvement, especially paired with a gpu.
All in all it’s an ok buy, but if you can help it and it’s on sale try to go for 5800x versio
I have had no issues with the this APU since installing it. It has a nice price point and would highly recommend to anyone one on a lookout for a budget CPU.
I’ve always trusted AMD processors so chose this and was pleased with price.
A lower priced option for those wishing to move or upgrade an older system.
his CPU is an affordable older but fast choice and great for gaming. consider pairing with a 30 series Nvidia card and a quality motherboard for an affordable gaming pc.
After finally moving on from an old AMD A10 9700 to a new motherboard with this processor I’m blown away by the speed it operates.. Recording 1080p video via Audials it’s barely breaking a swea
(Very ) Easy install into [ASUS-TUFGaming-B450-Plus-II] mobo, with a stock wraith cooler, with two M2 drives , and 64 GB or RAM ( which is the max supported by this board) . The mobo required a bios update to support this, then everything just worked.
First thing, I do not use this for gaming ( and my graphics card is several years old anyway ) , primarily for development business software purposes.
Installed windows 11 x64 without any issues.
The CPU runs at idle for the background tasks, with average CPU core temperature between 50 – 55 degrees centigrade.
Installed sql server 2022 from the M2 drive. This took less than 5 minutes, which is incredible, as this process typically takes over 30 minutes .
Installing other business development tools was completed in record time, although this is aided hugely by the M2 drives ( 3.5GB / s allegedly ) . If you want to really take advantage of the capabilities of this CPU, you need M2 drives , not spinny disks, otherwise the CPU will spend much of its life in a wait state for data.
Installed Asus Armoury crate which provides comprehensive feedback on the hardware.
The CPU runs between 3.5 – 4.5 Ghz ( does not really matter that much with this many cores) .
For the price, cannot fault the processor
The one thing that is a minor issue is windows 11, which does not always play nicely with drivers. By default need to install all the supplied drivers from asus ( including bios updates ) , then should be okay.
So far, this is the smoothest processor that I have installed, and I have used AMD for several years now
Would recommend ( if you can purchase from a reputable vendor , rather than stock pilers )
I use this CPU with a 3060 GPU and can play most games at 60 fps 1080p sometimes can push 1440p depending on the game.
his is a good cpu if you want to keep a budget only when it’s on offer. there’s better options but if its around 70 pound it’s a good option to keep in mind. do not buy at full price!!
Brought this for an upgrade from my R7 3700x however had to buy a AIO to keep it cool. Wraith prism cooler just wouldn’t cut it. Under load boost was hitting over 90c. 60-80c idle. Now I sit around 30-40 idle and load 70-80c. Well worth the purchase
This processor is very powerful, it absolutely destroys my previous Ryzen 5 2600. The processor is very good, although it has no cooler included and it gets very hot so a good cooler is needed, other than that it is perfect for most gamers (I paid 245 for it), would recommend
This is a superb CPU For Windows 11 but it must also be used with a compatible motherboard and memory cards.
I made a review on this product after purchasing it, trying to get it installed by a technician but it wasn’t working with my PC. I thought it was damaged but happens it was because it is not compatible with my PC according to the technician. Product is in a good condition.
The Ryzen 5700X is a perfect cpu for people who are looking for a good am4 cpu with a great upgrade path and good price : performance ratio. This cpu is capable of high performance gaming and when combined with a fast SSD, provides a seemless workflow experience. 10/10 Reccomended for anyone into high performance desktop and gaming use at a nice price.
Has been very good performance and reliable for the time i’ve had it, the memory channels are holding up much better than on my old 3600x where after some time I couldn’t use the XMP profile on 3600mhz C14 ram without it crashing. It’s a bit difficult to set a fan curve as with the small process, it heats up very quickly towards 80 degrees and comes back down just as quickly when not under load so fan speed can be a bit temperamental. this is a minor thing, during gaming it never spikes very high.
Upgraded from 1700 to the 5700x! Massive upgrade and noticeable speed! Very impressed. Using on a B450 board as upgrades BIOS. No issues at all.
This is a great upgrade from the ryzen 5 2600 giving me a boost in games in FPS and better performance overall, i definitely noticed it.
The only caveat is you may need to flash your motherboards Bios before installing the new CPU! It is without doubt Faster than my Old Ryzen 7 1700 🙂
Firstly check to see if your motherboard can actually take a ryzen 9 Expensive but if you can get a good deal, then maybe it’s worth it..
I built my pc a few years ago and when I built it!! I spared no expense. So I thought the motherboard would take a Ryzen 9 but I was Wrong
So back to the drawing board for me
This CPU runs very very hot but it is very fast overall. The only real downside of this CPU is the temperatures as I am currently peaking 80+ on temperatures while playing games and this is with a 260 AIO attached.
I Bought this CPU paired with a 320M Pro-E motherboard. Although an older mother board both pair very well together. alongside my GTX 1650 the PC is great for anything from general desktop use to high performance gaming. with a clock rate of 4.7Ghz and 8 cores its a no brainer for anybody looking to get into games. Although not coming with the normal AMD Stock cooler its still a great pickup. I would recommend an AIO paired with this CPU to get those nice cool temps. DO NOT USE THE STOCK AMD WRAITH STEALTH COOLER YOUR PC WILL CRASH. been using this CPU for 2 months now at the price of 223 it was defiantly worth the pick up.
Picked this up on black friday and went from a 6 core 3600 to this. The difference has been huge.
This is the CPU (at time of writing) for the mid-smart high end build (high end when you know what you’re doing so don’t need to pick up the Ryzen 9. Definitely capable of handling what you want.
bought this as an upgrade to the ryzen 3600 and boy does this pack some serious punch, notoriously known as a hot chip, only if you don’t have a decent cooler, runs cool even in cinebench and packs plenty of power for those who don’t want to be spending a fortune on the newer 7xxxx gen with plenty of years left in it.
This CPU is great, value for money is pretty good too. So far, I have not had any issues while gaming. The provided CPU fan is on the big side and I couldn’t get my RAM sticks in beside it, however this is more of a design flaw with my motherboard. Overall, I’m happy with my purchase.
Inside the case is a little AMD 5000 series sticker. 5/5.
I upgrade from a 2700x cpu to 5600 cpu and the up lift in fps is great its cheap and a great gaming cpu if on a budget I have a B450 motherboard and just updated the bios and replace the cpu and that was it awesome cpu for the price
I already own the 5600G but wanted something that could give me a little bit more. Don’t get me wrong the 5600G is an excellent CPU but after getting it i realised i should of gone for the 5600X. I waited a month or so and decided to get the 5600X and also bought a Gigabyte B 550-M DS3H to go with it which should give me that little extra i was looking for. It should help my Powercolor Red Devil RX 5700 XT perform a bit better.
Update
Just fitted this and although not a massive upgrade from my 5600G i still notice quite a difference in speed and overall performance. Impressed with this and very happy with the price i paid from Amazon.
LIKES
– Strong Single Core Performance – In layman’s terms this essentially means for gaming this is a great entry/ mid range CPU as it can boost to higher clocks to achieve good/ consistent performance. Probably the best CPU currently at time of writing (December 2022) for 1080p high fps gaming.
– Overclocking – This is a very simple CPU to overclock, in essence you actually barely need to do any overclocking yourself as long as you turn on Precision Boost Overdrive 2.0 in the BIOS. Once that’s on the CPU is really at it’s full potential, you will struggle to squeeze out any more performance as they are setup well from factory to reach full potential using PBO2.0.
– Easy install – Of course it’s just a CPU, just make sure you put it in the correct way, drop it in carefully and avoid bending pins. Also NEVER run your machine without a cooler being on the CPU, if it doesn’t have a cooler it can easily be damaged.
– Reasonable temps with stock cooler – The stock cooler does a pretty good job, but if you definitely want to ensure no performance caps then any aftermarket cooler and paste will drastically bring down temps (See my DeepCool cooler in picture).
– Reliability – No issues at all.
DISLIKES
Honestly none, at this price point (Currently 157) you are getting great value for 1080p gaming.
SUMMARY
All round very strong value for money CPU for 1080p high fps gaming. If you are shooting for 1440p with good FPS you’ll want the 5800x3d which is an animal for that. If you’ve read this far you must be very picky with your tech like me! Thanks for the read and a like on this review would be a big help if you wouldn’t mind 🙂
However, it gets very hot so you will need a pretty good cooler for this CPU, you will likely have to dish out a minimum of 40 for a cooler and even then that’s not ideal and the ideal range is around 80+.
And for some reason the 3D variant has 50% more cache than this one, and I find it quite disappointing as the cache difference makes a massive performance difference, especially in Microsoft flight simulator, it’s the difference between 50fps and 70fps.
The current market value of each product at purchase was the following: 5600X: 355, 5800X: 403, 5900X: Nowhere to be found. Similar things were found on other webpages. At just 45 for 2 extra cores, IMO this was worth it. I remember back in 2016 when I purchased the Intel i5 6600K instead of the i7 6700k. The i7 started off with the same gaming performance as the i5 counterpart but years later, those extra threads and OC headroom really made all the difference. At the time the i7 was only 70 more than the i5 and I still regret making the wrong decision. I’m here today to let potential buyers (who plan on keeping this product for a long time) that the 5800X at the current market value is a much better deal than the 6 core counterpart especially with only a 45 price difference. If the 5900X wasn’t just a mere myth, that would’ve also been a solid option, however that remains to be seen.
As for actual product performance, it performance better than the 3950X, better than the 10700K and in the majority of gaming titles (with a few exceptions), performance is greater than that of the 10900K. Multi-tasking wise, I’ve only tested OBS recording to a 7200rpm WD black, Cyberpunk loaded on a 256Gb gen4 NVME SSD, while running discord screen share, Spotify, 10 chrome tabs, 1 running a 1080p video. Game settings were RTX off, Rasterization Ultra at 1080p using an RTX 2070. Even doing all those external tasks the GPU became the bottleneck before the CPU ever did.
Thermals are held under control with my trusty dark rock pro 3 I’ve been using since 2014 with its AM4 bracket. If you’re looking for a similarly insane air cooler, the newer dark rock pro 4 is the successor and comes with AM4 support straight out of the box. Under load I’ve seen no higher than 68 degrees. Idle we’re sitting at around 35 degrees, with ambient being around 24 (I know it’s winter but it’s always really warm in my office). CTR 2.0 (Ryzen Clock Tuner) can help bring these thermals down further and performance up if you’re into tinkering with your CPU. This is a clock speed and voltage tuner for Ryzen using Ryzen Master and Cinebench integration that can flesh out further performance from your product so it’s worth checking out.
Overall the product is insane. If you’re needing/wanting a new CPU in 2021 and you have the 400 spare, especially if you’re already using an AM4 socket on B450, X470, B550 or X570, this is the product for you!
